2006 Switchback Ridge "Peterson Family Vineyard" Petite Sirah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Switchback Ridge "Peterson Family Vineyard" Petite Sirah (92ST, 91RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good saturated medium ruby. Aromas of crushed black fruits and rare steak. Densely packed, sweet and chewy, with terrific depth of flavor; the note of bloody rare steak carries through in the mouth. This outsized wine finishes with big, chewy, youthfully tough tannins that need aging. As young as this is, it's easier to taste today than the merlot as there's considerably more material here." 2008 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2008 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (98RP, 97WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 James Berry Vineyard (52% Grenache, 31% Mourvedre, and 17% Syrah) saw some of its Grenache aged in the concrete eggs that are now catching on among some of the top producers on California’s Central Coast. With strong minerality from the limestone soil, this exuberant, fleshy, full-bodied wine is already drinking well. (I believe it was actually bottled just a day or two before my visit, which makes its performance that much more remarkable.) Dense purple, with sweet notes of barbecue smoke and meats as well as roasted herbs, extravagant black cherry, black currant, and blackberry fruit are all present in this wine, but there is plenty of underlying structure that comes from both the minerality and the Mourvedre component. Pure, full-bodied, but again, impressively elegant and nuanced, this is a tour de force and another prodigious example of this

2006 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (95RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is big, dark and juicy. There is an element of wildness that runs through the wine. Graphite, licorice, tar and smoke are just some of the nuances that add complexity. The 2006 boasts superb purity from start to finish. Elements of fleshiness give the impression the 2006 might drink well relatively early, until the massive tannins set in. Floral notes add freshness on the finish. This is another fabulous wine from Randy Dunn. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2036. (AG)" (12/2011)

Wine Enthusiast: "Named after the famed vineyard’s south-facing slopes, this vintage is expertly crafted, with aromas of ripe red cherry, sandalwood, black pepper, graphite, purple flowers and damp pine needles. It’s complex, with dark red fruit and tickling cardamom spice set against fine-grained tannins. Quite precise and tight now, the violet and rose petal elements will expand…" (04/2015)

This full-bodied, opulent 1991 reveals a flawless integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Aubert "Eastside Vineyard" Russian River Valley Chardonnay ((98-100RP), 95AG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Chardonnay East Side (1,000 cases produced) comes from a vineyard owned by Ulises Valdez and planted with the Montrachet clone. It is the rockiest site in the Aubert portfolio. Amazingly, it sees 100% new oak, but you would never know that from smelling or tasting the wine. Copious aromas of wet rocks, almond paste, honeysuckle, pineapple and white peach are followed by a full-bodied, stunningly rich yet crisp, vibrant, zesty Chardonnay that should drink well for a minimum of 10 years. It boasts a dense ruby/purple color along with a sweet bouquet of lead pencil shavings, black currants and a hint of toasty oak. The 1995 Dominus (6,000 cases produced from a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, and 4% Merlot) is a ripe, plummy, supple, expansively-flavored wine with copious quantities of black currant fruit. Full-bodied and low in acidity, it possesses exceptional concentration and purity. Qualitatively, it is built along the lines of the 1992 and 1990. 2001 Von Strasser "Reserve" Diamond Mountain District Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2001 Von Strasser "Reserve" Diamond Mountain District Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) (96CG, 95W&S, 93WE, 92WS, 91ST). Connoisseurs Guide: "This massive, astonishingly rich and concentrated wine is hands-down the biggest and boldest wine on the Von Strasser roster, yet for all of its show-stopping size and unabashed ripeness, it is kept comfortably on course by a deep core of fruit. Brimming with currants, cherries, chocolate and unstinting oak, it shows flashes of walnuts and rich, loamy soil. Like all of its siblings, it carries plenty of tannin and is one for the cellar, but its powerful and persistent fruit ensures it a very bright future. Let it sit quietly until its tenth birthday arrives, and expect it to be in very fine shape after a couple of decades have passed." (12/2004)

It cuts a bigger swath across the palate than the Merlot, but with no hard edges. Deeply textured and multidimensional with loads of fruit as well as a flawless integration of acidity, alcohol, tannin and wood, this medium to full-bodied, classic Blankiet should continue to drink well for another 15-20 years. 2013 Maybach Family "Irmgard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2013 Maybach Family "Irmgard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. From the winery: "The far reaches of the Sonoma Coast tend to produce wines with distinctive notes driven by the unyielding conditions of their locale. From this vineyard you can see the Pacific Ocean, which puts the site near the fringe of where it is possible for nature to allow the cultivation of wine grapes. In planting this vineyard in 2007, we chose two different California Heritage clones, Swan and Calera, to produce a distinct wine that reflects the soil and climate. This Pinot Noir has leagues of depth and aromatic notes of forest floor, cassis, and cinnamon. On the palate, notes of plum, cranberry compote, rosemary, oolong tea and a zesty acidity draw out into a clean perfumed finish."

1996 Sine Qua Non "Against The Wall" Santa Barbara County Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 1996 Sine Qua Non "Against The Wall" Santa Barbara County Syrah (94RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sine Qua Non has produced some spectacular Syrahs, buying fruit from the best sources in Santa Barbara - the Alban, Stolpman, and Bien Nacido vineyards. The 1996 Against The Wall Syrah is cut from the same mold as the 1997. The color is opaque black/purple, and the nose offers a combination of cassis/blackberry jamminess intermixed with tar, pepper, and spice. Thick, massively full, yet wonderfully rich and expansive, with admirable purity and mouth-staining levels of glycerin and extract, this full-bodied, silky-smooth Syrah is deceptively easy to drink, but I suspect it will age effortlessly for 15-20 years." 1995 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 1995 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (99RP, 96ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1995 Proprietary Red Wine is almost as perfect as the 1994. It has gotten even better in the bottle, and remains one of the most remarkable young Cabernet Sauvignons I have tasted. The wine, a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, was aged in 100% new oak, which adds subtle pain grille/toasty scents. This opaque purple-colored Cabernet offers up a nose of smoke, coffee beans, black and blue fruits, minerals, and roasted herbs. It is extremely full-bodied, with spectacular purity, exquisite equilibrium, and a seamless personality with everything in total harmony. The finish lasts for more than 40 seconds. Even with all of its intensity and explosiveness, the wine remains light on its feet, with great balance and class to burn. Bid on this magnum of 2007 Merry Edwards "Klopp Ranch" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (1.5L) (97CG, 94WE, 91WS, 89ST). It just seems that way because its generous aromas seemingly jump out of the glass, and the layered quality of those aromas reinforces the notion that this is top-notch Pinot. Its full and supple impressions at entry are followed by ripe, deep and deliciously fruity flavors of sweet red cherries, toasted bread, rich, creamy oak and hints of dried raspberries. 2004 Meyers "Bonny's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2004 Meyers "Bonny's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L). You may remember Bonny's Vineyard from a Silver Oak bottling that spanned some years. Now, Justin and Bonny Meyer's son Matt with his wife Karen make wine in Mendocino County. More about the vineyard from the winery: "The Bonny’s Vineyard Cabernet was one of the country's first and deservedly best examples of a single vineyard designate wine. Over thirty years ago these precious four acres stood out among thousands that Justin Meyer cultivated in the heart of the Napa Valley's Oakville Appellation. The old creek which runs nearby deposited gravely soils which cause the vines to struggle and produce the most beautifully intense fruit imaginable. This is not a wine we make, but rather one we watch develop itself during its five year ageing process. Whereas we are actively developing the style of the Syrah, when it comes to the Bonny’s we stay true to the techniques Justin Meyer used many years ago

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Rhys Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir Tasting Lot, including 1-bottle of 2007 Rhys "Swan Terrace - Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (94BH, 94ST) and 1-bottle of 2007 Rhys "Alpine Hillside" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir ((94-96RP), 93BH, 93ST). Of the 2007 Rhys "Alpine Hillside" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Rhys Vineyards produces very ambitious wines from vines planted in specific sites in the Santa Cruz Mountains...it is almost impossible to latch on to a few bottles unless you are on the mailing list. The vineyards are generally tightly spaced (2 by 3 feet for Pinot Noir and 4 by 3 feet for Syrah), and the clonal selections are multiple in order to hopefully achieve more complexity and nuance. This is an impressive, well thought out operation, believing, certainly with Pinot Noir, in whole clusters, no racking, and a minimal, artisinal approach to winemaking. The yields are naturally very smal

2007 Littorai "Hirsch Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Littorai "Hirsch Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (91ST, 90RP, 90WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Strawberry, flowers, fresh herbs, black tea and spices on the nose. Juicy, bright and gripping, with lovely acidity framing the strawberry, orange peel, licorice and spice flavors. Finishes with sweet tannins and very good length. Winemaker/owner Ted Lemon noted that cool weather in May and June of '07 resulted in an extended and uneven flowering but that the season from that point was "close to ideal, with little stress on the vines." Some brilliant sunshine at the end of August was great for early-picked vines (as a general rule, Lemon prefers to pick early, especially with chardonnay), but then "everything stopped" during the middle two weeks of September due to cooler conditions, and there was "a very long pause" at Littorai. Ultimately, says Lemon, the 2007s have acidity levels similar to those of the 2006s but with lower

1996 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 93CG, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The virtually perfect 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (330 cases) is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Opaque purple-colored, with a profound bouquet of minerals, flowers, black fruits, and spice, this awesomely concentrated, multi-layered wine represents the essence of Cabernet Sauvignon. Amazingly, it is neither ponderous nor heavy handed, with the oak, acidity, and tannin woven into the wine's formidable, concentrated personality. The finish lasts for nearly a minute. Sadly, it is extremely limited in availability, but what a compelling wine it is! Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025. This is a spectacular wine that must be tasted to be believed." (08/1999)

2009 Sojourn "Gap's Crown" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Sojourn "Gap's Crown" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (93RP, 92WS, 90WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An up-and-coming hillside vineyard seen more and more in Sonoma is the Gap’s Crown Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. The 2009 Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown Vineyard, made from some whole clusters, is one of the deeper, more saturated ruby-colored Pinot Noirs from Sojourn. Very Burgundian, with deep raspberry, forest floor, and black cherry fruit as well as hints of earth and mineral, there is a sense of spring flowers as well in this complex, deep, rich, full-bodied Pinot Noir, which is stunning. It has loads of black and red fruits, and to me is the most complex of the Pinot Noirs in the Sojourn Cellars portfolio. It is also a blend of the more modern clones, 113, 114 and 828. Already drinking well, with lots of complexity, it should continue to do so for 7-8 more years." (02/2011)

Of the 1984 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "I have been fooled by this wine in blind tastings, mistaking it for a top Pomerol, although there is an insignificant percentage of Merlot in the blend. The complex bouquet of ripe, curranty fruit, coffee, and sweet black cherries has become increasingly complex and intense. Full-bodied, opulent, and soft, this fleshy wine appears to have reached an attractive plateau of maturity; it should easily last for another 10-15+ years." (08/1994)

Made from 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and the rest tiny dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot...in two weeks of tastings, this wine stood out as one of those singular efforts that it is impossible to get out of your mind and off of your palate. This is Clone 4 and Clone 6, as well as Clone 337, blended together from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, aged in 100% new Darnajou barrels. For whatever reason, this wine seems to show more chocolate, espresso roast, barbecue smoke, dense blackberry and blueberry fruit and enormous body with not a touch of heaviness or astringency. Made in the classic, iconic Screaming Eagle style that the original proprietress, Jean Philipps, first showcased in the early 1990s, before the winery was sold to Stan Kroenke, the inky/purple-colored, seamless 2012 possesses an extraordinary set of aromatics consisting of pure blackcurrant liqueur, licorice, acacia flowers, graphite and a subtle hint of new oak. Full-bodied, opulent and voluptuous, this profound wine is as prodigious as I thought it would be last year when tasted from barrel. It should age effortlessly for 20 or more years. (RP)" (10/2014)

Of the 2011 Sine Qua Non "Next of Kyn No. 5" Red Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "One of the top 2011s, the 2011 Cumulus Vineyard #5 is a similar blend to the 2010, with 42% Syrah, 32% Grenache, 16% Mourvedre, 7% Petite Sirah and 3% Touriga Nacional. There’s slightly less whole cluster inclusion here (8%), and it spent 30 months in 45% new French oak. Roughly 257 cases were made. More savory and chewy, it boasts knockouts aromas and flavors of cassis, liquid smoke, ground pepper and hints of tar to go with a full-bodied, rich, structured, yet thrillingly textured profile on the palate. 2004 Alban "Lorraine" Edna Valley Syrah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Alban "Lorraine" Edna Valley Syrah (100RP, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More layered and concentrated, with incredible depth and richness, the 2004 Syrah Lorraine comes from chalk and flint benefits and sees the standard extended barrel aging regime, with close to 42 months spent in oak. According to John, it’s the wine that’s the most ready to go, no matter the age. It hits all of my sweet spots with its brilliant aromatics, decadent texture and blockbuster finish. Showing traces of the marine-like saltiness that’s found in the Reva, it offers up a smorgasbord of aromas and flavors, with black raspberry, creme de cassis, salted beef and liquid smoke comprising the bulk of the bouquet. Full-bodied, seamless and balanced, with fabulous concentration and nothing out of place, it’s an incredible expression of Syrah that could come from nowhere else. Drinking superbly, it too will have at least another decade of prime drinking. (JD)" (04/2014)
