2010 Franc Mayne, St-Emilion

94 points James Suckling: "Fabulous aromas of crushed blueberries and minerals with flowers follow through to a full body, with solid fruit and tannin structure and a long, long finish. Very intense. Better than 2009. Try in 2017." (2/2013)92 points Wine Spectator: "This delivers the profile of the vintage, with spice-infused raspberry, boysenberry and blackberry fruit coursing along nicely, followed by delineated anise and spice notes, all carried by a racy graphite spine. Rock-solid and nicely balanced, this should age elegantly. Best from 2014 through 2024. (Web-2013)" Jancis Robinson: "Rather sweet and sumptuous on the nos ...Read More »

2009 Larteau, Bordeaux Supérieur (Previously $15) Top Pick!
2009 Larteau, Bordeaux Supérieur (Previously $15)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fashioned from 100% Merlot, this mainstream, deliciously fruity, succulent, soft, dark ruby/purple-tinged, juicy 2009 is everything a bargain hunter is seeking." (4/2010) K&L Notes: Chateau Larteau is a carefully modernized 18th Century property with 12 hectares planted in the gravelly soils beside the Dordogne. Vinification of this 100% Merlot takes place in temperature-controlled concrete vats before the wine is aged for 18 months in 30% new Allier oak barrels. Jancis Robinson: "60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc. Ripe, expressive, dry fruit. Tannins that sneak up on the finish. Lovely development of flavour, but the palate is a bit angular. Drink to 2018. (RH)" (6/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This appears to be an attractive, elegant, strong effort from Tertre-Daugay. The wine shows deep, sweet, herb-tinged black cherry and currant fruit intermixed with some spice box and fruitcake. It is elegant, medium-bodied, sweet..." (2/2012) 88-91 points Wine Spectator: "Pretty Cabernet Franc aromas of crushed berries and some milk chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied, with soft and silky tannins. Long sweet fruit on the finish. 2007 La Prade, Cotes de Francs Top Pick!
2007 La Prade, Cotes de Francs

Wine Spectator: "Aromas of licorice, tar and some blackberry lead to a medium body, with light tannins and a fruity, delicate finish." K&L Notes: Château La Prade, just four and a half hectares, was purchased by the Thienpont family in 2000. Despite the tiny size, part of the vineyards are on the limestone plateau and the rest are on a south-facing slope rich in iron. This somewhat unique terroir results in a rich Merlot-dominated blend with great structure. We tasted this wine on our April 2014 Bordeaux trip and bought it on the spot. So enjoyable already. Best ever from here? Better in 2015." (2/2013)92 points Wine Spectator: "This has a really nice graphite frame that drives the core of fig, plum and boysenberry fruit authoritatively, with dense ganache, espresso and tar on the finish. The grip is keeping things tight now, but this should meld in the cellar, as the underlying feel is energetic. Jancis Robinson: "Fine perfume, becoming more meaty. Really moreish, dry and quite firm. Perhaps a little more structure than fruit." (11/2009) Wine & Spirits: "The aroma is complex and layered with rich cherries and smoky oak tones. This is a smooth-textured, traditional St-Emilion. A bit of bottling sulfur will dissipate as the wine ages, and the tannins will soften up for a steak." 2012 Emmolo Napa Valley Merlot

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Although this winery has been around since 1944, I am unfamiliar with its wines. Packaged in an interesting bottle with a label sporting green ink, this 2012 Merlot is made in an explosively rich, blockbuster style. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by oodles of blackcurrant and black cherry fruit intertwined with hints of espresso and chocolate. 2010 Divon, St-Georges St-Emilion

We loved this wine on our April 2012 Bordeaux trip. A 2010 with lots of sweetness and forward fruit. Blackberries abound here. Great value. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Co-Owner and Bordeaux Buyer) It comes from the miniscule St-Georges St-Emilion Appellation, which is located within the boundaries of Montagne-St-Emilion. This Merlot-dominated blend reminds us why Duckhorn earned its reputation as one of California's preminent sources for Merlot. The 2012 vintage, with its long hang time, was perfect for making a rich, seamless, structured wine. Winemaker notes: "From its aromas of Santa Rosa plum, creme de cassis, violet and Herbes de Provence to its enticing flavors of olallieberry, sticky toffee and vanilla bean, this is a complex and compelling expression of Napa Valley Merlot."

Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star & Good Value* Although its somewhat juicy, sweetly oaked aromas of ripe cherries send a signal that this is a wine that could and should be enjoyed soon, it turns out to show a little more structure once past its early plumpness and is one on which it would be wise to wait. It has the right fruity pieces in place to commend four or five years of keeping, and it delivers far more than do most at its price level." Floral red currant and cinnamon spice aromas lead to rich, ripe flavors of black cherry and toasty oak, with a hint of earth. Drink now through 2020." (9/2014)91 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Merlot jumps from the glass with brilliant red cherries, plums, flowers, spices and mint. Corbin Michotte owns 32 acres of vineyards in the Saint-Emilion region, bordering the Pomerol appellation. Two distinct soil types exist in the estate vineyards: sandy soils on iron-clay subsoil, and clay soils. This duality of the terroir contributes to the complex yet balanced wines for which Corbin Michotte is known. 2001 was a very good year for Bordeaux reds in this region; they are characterized by a refined style and ripe tannins. 2001 Twomey Napa Valley Merlot Back In Stock!
2001 Twomey Napa Valley Merlot

90 points Robert Parker: "The 2001 Merlot (a 6,354-case blend of 94.3% Merlot and 5.7% Cabernet Franc) exhibits fragrant aromas and flavors of espresso roast, coffee beans, smoke, chocolate, and loads of berry fruit. Dense plum/ruby in color with a hedonistic personality, this is a heady, full-bodied wine to drink over the next 7-8 years. This is a top-flight single-vineyard wine aged completely in French oak, which is in total contrast to the wines made at Silver Oak." (02/05)

1999 Fugue de Nenin, Pomerol (1.5L)

(3/2002) K&L Notes: Alex and I tasted this beauty and bought it on the spot. Tons of blackberry fruit flavors and a spicy palate impression. Enjoy with rack of lamb.
