2003-2004 Mitolo "GAM" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia Vertical
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003-2004 Mitolo "GAM" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia Vertical, including 1-bottle of 2003 Mitolo "GAM" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia ((96-100RP), 94JH) and 1-bottle of 2004 Mitolo "GAM" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia (97RP, 94JH, 92WE). Of the 2003 Mitolo "GAM" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The spectacular, dense ruby/purple-colored 2003 Shiraz G. A. M. (named after the Mitolo family’s three children) exhibits aromas of lead pencil shavings, blackberries, blueberries, cassis, licorice, new oak, and scorched earth. This complex 2003 comes across as a hypothetical blend of a great La Mission-Haut-Brion from Bordeaux and a Rhone Valley Hermitage such as Chapoutier's Pavillon. Everything is seamlessly integrated into this tour de force in winemaking. (RP)" (10/2004)

2004 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2004 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (98RP, 95ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Also offering off-the-charts richness, with a flamboyant, hedonistic profile, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc) possesses spice-laced aromas and flavors of cassis, smoke tobacco, roasted meats, dried licorice and wild herbs that are to die for. Full-bodied, incredibly layered, rich and textured it has no hard edges, masses of tannin and a finish that won’t quit. I’ve been lucky enough to taste this cuvee three times (rated 96 and 97) in the past handful of weeks and this was the best showing yet. From a cool vintage, it is still youthful and vibrant, and will continue to shine for another 15+ years. Drink now-2028. (JD)" (06/2013)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru "Vigne de L'Enfant Jésus" (92BH, 90ST, 90WS). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " **Sweet spot Outstanding!** Fans of this wine will notice a good deal more wood influence than normal but the good news is that it appears to also possess the requisite stuffing to successfully integrate it with time in bottle. The nose is earthy but fresh with excellent density and volume, culminating in an explosively powerful finish. More importantly for a firmly structured wine like this, the supporting tannins are ripe and this too should reward extended cellaring." (04/2006)

2004 Opus One Napa Valley Proprietary Red
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Opus One Napa Valley Proprietary Red (96RP, 92JS, 91ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aged in 100% new French oak for 17 months and in bottle for 14 months prior to release, the 2004 Opus One is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. It boasts a dense ruby/purple color along with a sweet bouquet of lead pencil shavings, black currants and a hint of toasty oak. More evolved than usual, this full-bodied, opulent 2004 is part of the new wave of Opus Ones made under the administration of Philippe Dhalluin, the administrator of Mouton Rothschild, who has begun to exploit this estate’s enormous potential. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense ruby/purple-colored 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Paradise Hills Estate reveals notes of cocoa, coffee, chocolate and creme de cassis. It cuts a bigger swath across the palate than the Merlot, but with no hard edges. Deeply textured and multidimensional with loads of fruit as well as a flawless integration of acidity, alcohol, tannin and wood, this medium to full-bodied, classic Blankiet should continue to drink well for another 15-20 years. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan (93RP, 93WE, 91WS, 90JS, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Haut-Bailly is a candidate for the finest wine of the appellation. Its dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by classic aromas of scorched earth, sweet black currants, cherries, and a hint of pain grille. Light on its feet, but substantially flavored, it possesses stunning purity, good acidity, ripe tannin, and abundant flavor as well as length. It builds incrementally and subtly in the mouth, but it’s the real deal." (06/2007)

2004 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo (96AG, 96RP, 92ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Mascarello’s 2004 Barolo Monprivato is an explosive wine with an almost Pinot-like expression of purity in its fruit. This round, sweet Barolo is extremely primary at this stage, with tons of dense fruit that almost cover the wine’s tannins completely. Subtle overtones of roses and tar develop in the glass, rounding out this majestic wine. Monprivato is one of the world’s very finest values in collectible, age-worthy wine, and the 2004 is another classic in the making. I was blown away by this wine’s sheer balance and harmony, both of which are remarkable considering the wine’s age. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2034." (10/2008)

Wine Enthusiast: "To say this is textbook Pinot Noir is to do this stunning wine an injustice. But it does have everything that should be in a great Pinot Noir--the sumptuousness, the silky tannins, the touch of wood, the red fruits. All of these are enveloped in an elegant structure, leaving freshness and delicious, refreshing acidity at the end. " (03/2007)

2004 Meyers "Bonny's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2004 Meyers "Bonny's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L). You may remember Bonny's Vineyard from a Silver Oak bottling that spanned some years. Now, Justin and Bonny Meyer's son Matt with his wife Karen make wine in Mendocino County. More about the vineyard from the winery: "The Bonny’s Vineyard Cabernet was one of the country's first and deservedly best examples of a single vineyard designate wine. Over thirty years ago these precious four acres stood out among thousands that Justin Meyer cultivated in the heart of the Napa Valley's Oakville Appellation. The old creek which runs nearby deposited gravely soils which cause the vines to struggle and produce the most beautifully intense fruit imaginable. This is not a wine we make, but rather one we watch develop itself during its five year ageing process. Whereas we are actively developing the style of the Syrah, when it comes to the Bonny’s we stay true to the techniques Justin Meyer used many years ago

The structured, layered 2004 has begun to develop wonderful complexity in its tobacco, leather, licorice, spices, minerals and menthol. In another few years it should be a magical wine, but for now patience is required. This is another sublime Barolo in the making. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024." (10/2009)

Wine Enthusiast: "This is a hopelessly gorgeous wine with so much energy, intensity, density and good cheer. The superb ensemble—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot—delivers chocolate fudge, ripe cherry, rhubarb, cola, tobacco and cedar wood. It’s tight and supple, with seamless harmony and excellent succulence on the finish. But it’s that incredible intensity that truly sets this wine apart." (04/2008)

2004 Gracia, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Gracia, St-Emilion (93RP, (90-91ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sculptor/stone mason Michel Gracia has turned in another astonishing performance. His friendship with Alain Vauthier (Ausone’s proprietor) has no doubt resulted in some serious discussions on wine quality. Cropped at a remarkably low 20 hectoliters per hectare and made from a blend of 80% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc as well as a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2004 boasts an Ausone-like perfume of black fruits, crushed rocks, and spring flowers. In the mouth, it’s full-bodied, powerful, rich, pure, and beautifully layered. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, there are only 358 cases of this tour de force in garagiste winemaking. 2004 Alban "Lorraine" Edna Valley Syrah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Alban "Lorraine" Edna Valley Syrah (100RP, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More layered and concentrated, with incredible depth and richness, the 2004 Syrah Lorraine comes from chalk and flint benefits and sees the standard extended barrel aging regime, with close to 42 months spent in oak. According to John, it’s the wine that’s the most ready to go, no matter the age. It hits all of my sweet spots with its brilliant aromatics, decadent texture and blockbuster finish. Showing traces of the marine-like saltiness that’s found in the Reva, it offers up a smorgasbord of aromas and flavors, with black raspberry, creme de cassis, salted beef and liquid smoke comprising the bulk of the bouquet. Full-bodied, seamless and balanced, with fabulous concentration and nothing out of place, it’s an incredible expression of Syrah that could come from nowhere else. Drinking superbly, it too will have at least another decade of prime drinking. (JD)" (04/2014)

While opulent, underneath the full-bodied richness of fruit and depth is a structured wine. As it sits in the glass, an espresso roast character (no doubt from new oak) also emerges. Knockout nose suggests a wine of strong extract and extends one's Brunello vocabulary: cherry, peach pit, licorice, lead pencil, honey, jasmine, botanical herbs, you name it. Dry, classic and sharply delineated, conveying a strong impression of energy allied with great delicacy. This manages to be very ripe, broad and silky and at the same time virtually weightless. 2004 Agharta North Coast Syrah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Agharta North Coast Syrah (98RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Proprietors Pam and Pax Mahle have fashioned a 2004 Syrah called Agharta. Aged 58 months (that’s not a typo) in French oak casks (the 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages will spend 45-48 months in cask), the extraordinary 2004 is a 475-case blend of 92% Syrah, 5% Grenache, and the rest Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussane. Most of the Syrah comes from the Alder Springs Vineyard in Mendocino. This profound wine’s inky/purple color is followed by aromas of smoky barbecue meats, grilled Provencal herbs, and exotic tropical fruits intermixed with blackberry, cassis, blueberry, and graphite. This super-rich effort tastes like the nectar of Syrah, yet it is dry, elegant, and remarkably fresh and precise. In the mouth, the impression is like that of a multilayered cake -- everything is there. This is an amazing, very multi-dimensional wine that must be tasted to be believed. It can be drunk now or c

2004 Rubicon Estate "Rubicon" Rutherford Red Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Rubicon Estate "Rubicon" Rutherford Red Blend (96W&S, 93WE). Wine & Spirits: "From the historic Inglenook Estate, a sweet spot in the Rutherford bench that has been farmed organically since Gustav Niebaum planted vines here in the 1880s. Winemaker Scott McLeod is now in his 20th year at Rubicon, working with Francis Ford Coppola and his family who have been busy resurrecting the property since 1975. Rubicon is a selection of the more concentrated fruit from the estate, dark in tone with what McLeod describes as a violet character. The '04, from a hot vintage and a relatively early harvest, is marked by the baritone depths small berries and low yields can give. The wine feels compressed, its power magnificent. In addition to whatever trademark combination of flavor and structure places it clearly as Rubicon, it also has that distinctive Rutherford dust character , like pollen dusting a black cherry. One of the true greats from Napa Valley." (06/2008)

Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Lancaster burst on the scene with enormous buzz, perhaps before they had really earned it. Steadily but surely, they’ve built up the wine, and the ’04 is the best ever. It’s a gorgeous Cab, softly complex, rich in cassis, cherry, spice and oak flavors anchored with warm, earthy tannins. In fact, the earthiness stands it in good contrast to Napa Valley, making it wholesome and complete." (12/2007)

Of the 1998 Peter Lehmann "Stonewell" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia,Wine & Spirits writes: "Black, smoky, dense and floral, this wine packs everything you'd want in a Barossa shiraz and presents it with silken refinement. And then there's the spice, the bold and explosive layers of Moroccan, Arabian, Mexican and Caribbean spice, endless layers of it sailing off into the finish. Stonewell is made from Lehmann's top, low-yielding old-vine sources in western Barossa, some over a century old. This is one of the best of the '98s we've tasted, remarkably young for a six-year-old wine, well suited to another five to ten years of aging." (02/2005)

Of the 2004 Alban "Seymour's Vineyard" Edna Valley Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The most structured of the three Syrahs, the 2004 Syrah Seymour’s Vineyard (100% Syrah from mostly flint and sandstone soils) is the most youthful in the lineup, with still obvious structure, incredible purity, and a finish that just won’t quit. Giving up notions of creme de cassis, smoked meats, crushed rock-like minerality, pepper and even hints of bacon fat, it’s more focused and precise than the Lorraine, yet has full-bodied richness, awesome purity and perfect balance between its structure and fruit. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine Joseph Roty Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru "Très Vieilles Vignes" (94ST, 92BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Captivating aromas of dark raspberry, licorice, underbrush and truffle. Supple, silky and sweet, with uncanny depth for a wine from this vintage. Highly concentrated flavors of cherry, spice and black licorice; really fat with sweet fruit, and distinctly fruitier today than the Griottes. Broad and full but with zero heaviness. Very long finishing flavors of spice and licorice. An incredible performance in the context of the year. And structured to last. " (03/2007)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Textbook Corton-Charlemagne aromas of apple, lime, wet stone, nutmeg and menthol. Chewy, tactile and juicy, with compelling sappiness to the steely flavors of menthol and liquid stone. A great mineral expression with the sheer density to prevent it from coming off as hard. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Williams-Selyem "Hirsch" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (94WE, 92BH, 92CG, 92RP, 91ST). Wine Enthusiast: "The most notable feature of this wine, the thing that really distinguishes it from the other Pinots in Bob Cabral’s stable, is acidity. It just sings and zings. Meanwhile the fruity flavor from this hot vintage is enormous. Blackberries, cherries, mocha, molasses, the list goes on. Delicious now, this will improve for four years, and hold for another six. Wonderfully complex, scented nose combines black cherry, rose petal, smoked meat, coffee and underbrush; a real essence of the village. Then densely packed and sweet, with beautifully integrated acidity and floral lift giving this silky wine a very suave impression. A tactile, peppery quality gives added lift to the wonderfully rich, long finish. This will gain in complexity with aging and should be stunning. 93(+?) points" (04/2007)

2004 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Rosé Champagne
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Rosé Champagne (98W&S, 94RP). Wine & Spirits: "Few of the noble wines of the world have the effortless grace of Cristal Rosé. The Pinot Noir for the blend, planted in the 1960s, grows in the center of the slope in Aÿ. Its flavors are more focused on the soil than fruit, as if the vines are bent on extracting the scent of fossilized seashells from the limestone their roots explore. Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon blends the Pinot Noir with 40 percent Chardonnay from Avize, creating a wine with flavors that reach the horizon line, and an ethereal fragrance that last for minutes after each taste, bright, weightless, elusive and grand."

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Conterno Fantino "Sorì Ginestra" Barolo (96RP, 96ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Conterno-Fantino have once again produced one of the vintage’s finest wines with their stunning 2004 Barolo Sori Ginestra, which is just as impressive in bottle as it has been on the several occasions I have tasted it from barrel. This explosive, heady Barolo bursts onto the palate with seamless layers of ripe dark fruit, black cherries, menthol, cinnamon, pine and minerals, revealing profound depth and richness. It offers superb length, gorgeous, sweet tannins and a finish that lasts forever. Although it is a surprisingly accessible Sori Ginestra at this stage, I expect it will close down at some point in the near future. Readers who have an opportunity to taste this wine in the next few months should not hesitate to do so. This is a remarkable Barolo in every way. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (AG)" (12/2007)
