2010 Franc Mayne, St-Emilion

94 points James Suckling: "Fabulous aromas of crushed blueberries and minerals with flowers follow through to a full body, with solid fruit and tannin structure and a long, long finish. Very intense. Better than 2009. Try in 2017." (2/2013)92 points Wine Spectator: "This delivers the profile of the vintage, with spice-infused raspberry, boysenberry and blackberry fruit coursing along nicely, followed by delineated anise and spice notes, all carried by a racy graphite spine. Rock-solid and nicely balanced, this should age elegantly. Best from 2014 through 2024. (Web-2013)" Jancis Robinson: "Rather sweet and sumptuous on the nos ...Read More »

2009 Larteau, Bordeaux Supérieur (Previously $15) Top Pick!
2009 Larteau, Bordeaux Supérieur (Previously $15)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fashioned from 100% Merlot, this mainstream, deliciously fruity, succulent, soft, dark ruby/purple-tinged, juicy 2009 is everything a bargain hunter is seeking." (4/2010) K&L Notes: Chateau Larteau is a carefully modernized 18th Century property with 12 hectares planted in the gravelly soils beside the Dordogne. Vinification of this 100% Merlot takes place in temperature-controlled concrete vats before the wine is aged for 18 months in 30% new Allier oak barrels. The wine is fruity and generous and enjoyable in its youth, but with an aging potential of 5-10 years in ... Read More »

Jancis Robinson: "60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc. Ripe, expressive, dry fruit. Tannins that sneak up on the finish. Lovely development of flavour, but the palate is a bit angular. Drink to 2018. (RH)" (6/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This appears to be an attractive, elegant, strong effort from Tertre-Daugay. The wine shows deep, sweet, herb-tinged black cherry and currant fruit intermixed with some spice box and fruitcake. It is elegant, medium-bodied, sweet..." 2007 La Prade, Cotes de Francs Top Pick!
2007 La Prade, Cotes de Francs

Wine Spectator: "Aromas of licorice, tar and some blackberry lead to a medium body, with light tannins and a fruity, delicate finish." K&L Notes: Château La Prade, just four and a half hectares, was purchased by the Thienpont family in 2000. Despite the tiny size, part of the vineyards are on the limestone plateau and the rest are on a south-facing slope rich in iron. This somewhat unique terroir results in a rich Merlot-dominated blend with great structure. We tasted this wine on our April 2014 Bordeaux trip and bought it on the spot. So enjoyable already. Best ever from here? Better in 2015." (2/2013)92 points Wine Spectator: "This has a really nice graphite frame that drives the core of fig, plum and boysenberry fruit authoritatively, with dense ganache, espresso and tar on the finish. The grip is keeping things tight now, but this should meld in the cellar, as the underlying feel is energetic. Jancis Robinson: "Fine perfume, becoming more meaty. Really moreish, dry and quite firm. Perhaps a little more structure than fruit." (11/2009) Wine & Spirits: "The aroma is complex and layered with rich cherries and smoky oak tones. This is a smooth-textured, traditional St-Emilion. A bit of bottling sulfur will dissipate as the wine ages, and the tannins will soften up for a steak." (10/2008) Wine Spectator: "Vanilla, licorice and violet aromas follow through to a medium-to-full body, with silky tannins and a medium finish. (Web-2008)" K&L Notes: Wow! So there, but will age." (5/2013) Jancis Robinson: "Extremely dark purple. Very rich and lively and with lots of winemaking effort to judge from the nose and life. Well done!" (4/2010) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The basic cuvee, the 2009 Arnauton, is 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. 2010 Divon, St-Georges St-Emilion

We loved this wine on our April 2012 Bordeaux trip. A 2010 with lots of sweetness and forward fruit. Blackberries abound here. Great value. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Co-Owner and Bordeaux Buyer) It comes from the miniscule St-Georges St-Emilion Appellation, which is located within the boundaries of Montagne-St-Emilion. The vineyards of Château Divon have a specially privileged terroir. They face straight south. Always a plus in this uncertain maritime climate!

2001 Corbin Michotte, St-Emilion

Corbin Michotte owns 32 acres of vineyards in the Saint-Emilion region, bordering the Pomerol appellation. Two distinct soil types exist in the estate vineyards: sandy soils on iron-clay subsoil, and clay soils. This duality of the terroir contributes to the complex yet balanced wines for which Corbin Michotte is known. 2001 was a very good year for Bordeaux reds in this region; they are characterized by a refined style and ripe tannins. Super delicious wine.

A superstar of the vintage (not surprising given how successful the proprietors, the Decoster family, have been over the last decade or more), this 58-acre vineyard located near the village of St.-Etienne de Lisse enjoyed yields of 34 hectoliters per hectare. (6/2009)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red with an amber rim. Exotic aromas of plum, cherry, roast coffee, tobacco leaf and woodsmoke. Sweet, silky and suave, with lovely inner-mouth perfume. More subtle and sophisticated than most right-bank '82s, wi ...Read More »

1995 La Conseillante, Pomerol

93 points Wine Spectator: "Fascinating aromas of mineral, lilac and blackberry follow through to a full-bodied palate, with layers of silky tannins and a long finish. Just starting to come around. Give it more time.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2008. (Web-2007)"92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the La Conseillante vertical at Chez Bruce. This bottle of '95 just refused to come out an play, unlike previous examples. It had a very tight bouquet with touches of redcurrant and wild hedgerow, later developing more exotic scents of dried apricot and dates. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, o ...Read More »

2000 Pavie Decesse, St-Emilion

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Gerard Perse's 2000 Pavie Decesse, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a vineyard situated above Pavie, on the steep limestone hillsides outside the walled town of St.-Emilion, is a fabulous effort (all the Perse wines are stunning in this vintage). Notes of camphor, creme de cassis, violets, black currants, cedar, and licorice jump from the glass of this inky/purple-hued offering. Monumental richness, sensational sweet tannin, a skyscraper-like mid-palate, and a 45+-second finish result in an extraordinary wine that is just reaching its pl ...Read More »

1988 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (1.5L)

93 points Wine Spectator: "Berry, cherry and chocolate on the nose, with hints of spices. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a spicy, cedary, dark chocolate aftertaste. Very silky and caressing. Grabs your attention. Muscular for Cheval. Overlooked by many Cheval fans. (Web-2009)"92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Very pure floral nose with enticing aromas of redcurrant, violet, minerals, licorice, lead pencil and coffee: very cabernet franc! Then linear, pure and juicy, with pristine flavors of red berries, dark plum, minerals and coffee. This midweight finishes clean and smoothly tannic, offering amaz ...Read More »

1994 L'Evangile, Pomerol

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the vintage’s most notable successes, l’Evangile’s 1994 has a dense plum/ruby color, a sweet nose of licorice, black raspberry, and currant with a hint of roasted herbs and damp soil. Medium to full-bodied, very opulent, it has considerable richness in the front end and mid-section. Like most of the best 1994s, the one defect is the lack of sweetness and the relatively dry, tannic finish. Nevertheless, this is top-notch stuff from a vintage that provides many good surprises, although the style of the wines tend to be relatively firm, muscular, and ...Read More »

1994 Clinet, Pomerol

93 points Wine Spectator: "Exotic aromas of violets, berry and toasted oak waft from this full-bodied wine. Packed to the brim with fruit and tannins and impressively long on the finish. Superb red from a producer known for opulence. Better in 2000." (1/1997)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Inky purple/garnet-colored, with an outrageously intense nose of black truffles, licorice, cedar, and black fruits, this phenomenally extracted wine borders on being too concentrated for its own good. This massive, huge wine possesses 20-25 years of potential longevity. The fruit’s remarkable intensity and purity, as well as th ...Read More »

1998 Angélus, St-Emilion

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A dazzling effort, the 1998 boasts an opaque purple color in addition to an exceptional bouquet of smoke, licorice, plums, black raspberries, and blackberries. As the wine sits in the glass, coffee and chocolate also emerge. Full-bodied, flamboyant, well-delineated, and beautifully balanced as well as layered, with well-integrated tannin in the powerful, rich finish, this 1998 will be at its best between 2003-2020." (4/2001)93 points Wine Spectator: "Intense aromas of coffee bean, chocolate and currant bush follow through to a full body, with soft and velvety tannins and a long and ...Read More »
