2008 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* It’s easy to see why Silver Oak remains so popular with the restaurant crowd. It’s made in a more restrained style than many other Napa Cabs. There’s plenty of berry and currant fruit as well as oak, but it’s accompanied by tobacco and herbs that give the wine an earthiness. What the wine lacks in dazzle it more than makes up for in elegance and subtlety. Should develop well for at least a decade." (5/2013) Wine Spectator: "A graceful, understated style, offering a delicate mix of dill, plum, black cherry, anise and cedar, ending on an elegant note. Drin ...Read More »

2008 Qupe "X Block—Bien Nacido Vineyard—The Good Nacido—30th Anniversary" Santa Maria Valley Syrah (Previously $90)

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* This bottling is the winery’s most expensive wine, and usually its best. Production of the ’08 was unusually low, resulting in amazing concentration. It’s basically a detonation of cherries, raspberries, currants, cola and mocha. New oak is present, in the form of delicate toast and wood spice, but is balanced. So silky and delicious now, you can drink it, but the tannic balance suggests the cellar. Will evolve over the next 12 years, maybe longer." 2008 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91-94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(includes 1.5% Cabernet Franc) Good deep ruby. Lovely lift and purity to the aromas of cassis, violet and bitter chocolate. Juicy, vibrant and intense; less dense than the 2007 but more perfumed in the mid-palate. Very fine-grained wine, finishing long and aromatic, with firm tannic bite and a late note of bitter chocolate. 'Two thousand eight was an impossible year to make 15% wines with a 4.0 pH in Napa Valley,' said Bo Barrett, adding that 'it's more fun to be working in the classical world. In 2008, there's less jam to block the terroir and mineralit ...Read More »

2008 Palmina Santa Barbara County Nebbiolo

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light red. Red berry and cherry aromas are complicated by rose, white pepper and vanilla. Spicy and brisk on entry, then fleshier and deeper in the middle, offering intense red fruit flavors and a touch of spicecake. Shows a refreshingly light touch, with zero excess fat. Finishes peppery and brisk, with lingering floral notes and no obvious tannins. There's an elegant, pinot-like character to this wine that's quite intriguing." (12/2012)

2008 Brewer-Clifton Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A great introduction to their style is their largest production Pinot, the 2008 Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills. Beautiful floral, raspberry, and blueberry notes with hints of spice box and underbrush are present in this full-bodied, supple-textured, perfumed wine, which also possesses terrific purity and depth. I even liked it as much or better than some of the single vineyard wines. It can be drunk now (which is an anomaly for many of the Brewer-Clifton Pinots) but should evolve for 8-10 years. It is a stunning blend from many different vineyards in their ...Read More »

2008 Brewer Clifton "Melville" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A lower alcohol (14.5%) Pinot Noir from Melville's clay, loamy and decomposed limestone soils, the 2008, for the first time, was aged completely in neutral oak. It exhibits beautiful strawberry, black cherry and raspberry fruit intermixed with notes of damp earth, truffles, and an attractive compost/animal-like character. With outstanding ripeness, medium to full body and excellent purity, it can be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years. 2008 Belle Glos "Las Alturas" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

The Las Alturas Vineyard, in the Santa Lucia Highlands, is a high elevation bench (1,200 feet) that, while very cool, gets loads of sunshine. This combination, along with the Gloria sandly loam soils, producers thicker-skinned grapes on low-yielding vines, amounting to exceptional deep and concentrated wines. The Las Alturas has more earthy notes than its other Belle Glos counterparts, with tangy black cherry and plum fruit and ample sweet spice.

2008 Chasseur "Joyce Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (Previously $60)

Tangy, finely etched red fruit flavors are given a firm edge by bitter cherry pit and pick up an exotic candied floral quality with air. Impressively precise and light on its feet, but at the same time very concentrated. A deeper note of blackberry arrives on the long, sappy, focused finish. This could be enjoyed now with a couple hours of aeration." (6/2010)92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Two stars. 2008 Kenneth Volk San Benito County Cabernet Pfeffer

Cabernet Pfeffer is one of the grape varieties that was brought nearly to extinction by the ravages of the Phylloxera louse in France in the late 1800s. Plantings of this variety still exist in old vine plantings in San Benito County. Pfeffer is German for "pepper" and the wines produced from this grape have distinctive spice aromas of crushed peppercorns. This wine is a great complement to grilled and barbequed foods as well as aged cheeses.

2008 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Gregariously fruity with highlights of raspberries and cranberries intermixed with its main themes of fresh, juicy cherries, this one may arguably be criticized for being just a touch on the simple, side but no one will find it lacking in depth. It is so young that it cannot only get better with time in bottle, but we admit that its no-holds-barred richness and accessible style makes near-term resistance next to impossible." 2008 Brewer-Clifton "Sea Smoke Vineyard" Sta Rita Hills Chardonnay

91+ points Robert Parker: "The 2008 Chardonnay Sea Smoke (14.8% alcohol) has a medium golden color, and an expressive nose of lemon blossoms, nectarines, and orange marmalade. It hits the palate with extraordinarily bright white currant and quince notes. Its acid profile is similar to some of the naked Diatom Chardonnays. Expressive, but still tightly coiled in the mouth, this wine will age nicely for a decade or more as well." (12/10) 89 points Robert Parker: "A blend of 84% Syrah and 16% Viognier, the 2008 Syrah Toasted Rope exhibits a medium ruby color (more like Grenache than Syrah) as well as a big, sweet bouquet of honeysuckle, tropical flora, and candied cherry and black currant-like fruit. This silky textured, opulent, lush, medium to full-bodied, c... Read More »

2008 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2008 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (98RP, 97WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 James Berry Vineyard (52% Grenache, 31% Mourvedre, and 17% Syrah) saw some of its Grenache aged in the concrete eggs that are now catching on among some of the top producers on California’s Central Coast. With strong minerality from the limestone soil, this exuberant, fleshy, full-bodied wine is already drinking well. (I believe it was actually bottled just a day or two before my visit, which makes its performance that much more remarkable.) Dense purple, with sweet notes of barbecue smoke and meats as well as roasted herbs, extravagant black cherry, black currant, and blackberry fruit are all present in this wine, but there is plenty of underlying structure that comes from both the minerality and the Mourvedre component. Pure, full-bodied, but again, impressively elegant and nuanced, this is a tour de force and another prodigious example of this

2008 Turley "Moore-Earthquake Vineyard" Napa Valley Zinfandel Back In Stock!
2008 Turley "Moore-Earthquake Vineyard" Napa Valley Zinfandel

(95-97) points from Robert Parker: "A classic Zinfandel emerges from a vineyard in St. Helena, the 2008 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard. As always, the 2008 is a prodigious effort. Dramatically better than the 2007, 2006, or 2005, it reveals a dense purple color along with an extraordinary bouquet of pure black raspberries, creme de cassis, licorice, roasted herbs, and pepper. Dense, with massive body and flavor concentration yet silky tannin and well-integrated spice, acidity, and alcohol, this wine should drink well for 10-12 years." (Dec. 2009)

2008 Saxum "Broken Stones" Paso Robles Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2008 Saxum "Broken Stones" Paso Robles Syrah (94RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Broken Stones (79% Syrah, 13% Grenache, and the rest Mourvedre) has a bluish purple color to the rim, with the classic nose of camphor, charcoal, black currant, and blackberry with hints of licorice and smoke. This intense wine displays great fruit, some structure, and a beautifully seamless texture. It is more evolved and open than the 2007 was at the same time, and just slightly less profound. It should drink nicely for at least a decade." (09/2010)

2008 Scarecrow "M. Étain" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2008 Scarecrow "M. Étain" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The inaugural vintage of Scarecrow's "second label" wine, M. Étain comes from a less rigorous selection of fruit hand-picked from the J.J. Cohn Estate in Rutherford. The wine is cleverly named after the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz, "Étain" being French for "Tin." Pretty cherry, raspberry and plum fruit notes on the nose and palate are deftly interwoven with cookie spices, cigar box, coffee, licorice, chocolate and vanilla bean. Silky tannins make this approachable now.

2008 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir Back In Stock!
2008 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding* An exceptionally densely fruited nose that is intensely floral and nuanced with stone, spice and soft earth hints complements to perfection the impressively concentrated medium weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract such that the very firm tannins are rendered almost invisible at present though I suspect that they will become more visible as the baby fat recedes. This broad-scaled effort should age for up to a decade and last several more. Magnificent. The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from biodynamically farmed fruit and o ...Read More »

2008 Williams-Selyem "Ferrington" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Awkward now, with all the components apart. Lots of oak here, ripe jammy fruit there, acidity kicking in midpalate, tannins locking down the finish. A very fine wine, rich, exotic and masculine, with a spine of steel, but it needs time. Best after 2013." (2/2011)92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Exotic, highly perfumed scents of black raspberry, potpourri, patchouli, cola and licorice, plus a hint of smoky herbs. A rich and surprisingly firm and juicy midweight, with creamy-sweet red and dark berry flavors leavened by subtle minerality that runs through the wi ...Read More »
