2001 Giuseppe e Figlio Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Giuseppe e Figlio Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo (95RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Barolo Monprivato is striking. It boasts gorgeous textural depth and richness to match its highly expressive, compelling aromatics. The wine has begun to soften a touch. Though not at all forbidding at this stage, the 2001 Monprivato remains an infant with at least two more decades of fine drinking ahead. This is a gorgeous effort from Mauro Mascarello. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2031." (04/2012)

2001 Von Strasser "Reserve" Diamond Mountain District Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2001 Von Strasser "Reserve" Diamond Mountain District Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) (96CG, 95W&S, 93WE, 92WS, 91ST). Connoisseurs Guide: "This massive, astonishingly rich and concentrated wine is hands-down the biggest and boldest wine on the Von Strasser roster, yet for all of its show-stopping size and unabashed ripeness, it is kept comfortably on course by a deep core of fruit. Brimming with currants, cherries, chocolate and unstinting oak, it shows flashes of walnuts and rich, loamy soil. Like all of its siblings, it carries plenty of tannin and is one for the cellar, but its powerful and persistent fruit ensures it a very bright future. Let it sit quietly until its tenth birthday arrives, and expect it to be in very fine shape after a couple of decades have passed." (12/2004)

Full-bodied and very sweet, with fantastic concentration of ripe and botrytized fruit, yet balanced and refined. Electric acidity. Lasts for minutes on the palate. This is absolutely mind-blowing. This is the greatest young Sauternes I have ever tasted. Best after 2010." (09/2004)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 E. Guigal "Ex Voto" Ermitage ((94-96RP), (94-96ST), 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The debut release of the Hermitage Ex-Voto, the spectacular 2001 spent 42 months in new French oak. Produced from four vineyard sites, l’Hermite, Les Murets, Les Greffieux, and Les Bessards, it boasts an amazingly thick purple color as well as a rich, sumptuous bouquet of smoke, licorice, creme de cassis, and earth. Full-bodied and rich, with good acidity and magnificent concentration, this is a tour de force in red Hermitage. Given its high tannin and crisp acidity, it will require patience. 2001 Paolo Scavino "Cannubi" Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Paolo Scavino "Cannubi" Barolo (94RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Barolo Cannubi, a dark ruby, is a classic in the making. It offers a multi-dimensional, delicate nose of flowers, menthol and minerals with plenty of ripe dark cherry fruit, great length and a nuanced, ethereal finish. It will require at least a few years of bottle age and will still be vibrant and full of flavor at age 20. Compared to Scavino’s more imposing Barolos Carobric and Bric del Fiasc, the Cannubi can sometimes be overpowered, but given some cellaring it typically begins to strut its stuff around age 10 and develops into a magical Barolo that can challenge many of the region’s top wines. I still have fond memories of the sublime 1989 and 1990 tasted last year. A great effort. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. (AG)" (10/2006)

2001 Behrens & Hitchcock "Kenefick Ranch Reserve" Napa Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Behrens & Hitchcock "Kenefick Ranch Reserve" Napa Cabernet Sauvignon (93RP, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The classic 2001 Kenefick Ranch is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. This 419-case offering will undoubtedly disappear as quickly as it is released. However, patience will be required as it needs 4-5 years of cellaring. High in tannin and dense, with oodles of sweet black currant fruit intermixed with tobacco leaf, licorice, and spice box, it is an outrageous Bordeaux on steroids that should drink well between 2008-2020. Wine Spectator: "Dense, rich and distinctive, shading the currant and blueberry fruit with hints of smoke and cedar. The tannins are submerged enough to make the finish feel polished despite a gentle grip. Has a beguiling freshness, with a finish that won't quit. Drink now through 2016." (03/2008)

2001 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour" Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour" Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. According to Robert Parker: "Following their glorious vintages in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, Beaulieu did not make an outstanding Private Reserve until the 2007. While the 2001 is undoubtedly a very good wine, it is more austere than recent vintages displaying a healthy dark ruby/plum color as well as an evolved nose of cedarwood, roasted herbs, sweet oak, kirsch and black currant fruit. Medium-bodied, well made and close to full maturity, it is capable of lasting another 10-12 years." (06/11) K&L's notes - This wine blew the staff away in our Redwood City store, and that is very difficult to do with any wine from California. A classic BV Private Reserve! Deep and intense with balance, harmony and length, the 2001 is one of the best Private Reserves in quite some time. It is a far cry from all of these over-extracted, high alcohol, in-your-face cult wines. The ‘01 Georges

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Bruno Giacosa "Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba" Barolo (OWC - 94RP, 93WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Barolo Falletto impresses for its layered, silky personality. Sweet roses, tar, licorice and menthol are all woven together in this deceptively medium-bodied Barolo. There is plenty of muscle to back things up. Today the Falletto is quite a bit more delicate than it has been in the past. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021. (AG)" (04/2012)

2001 Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (OWC)
Bid on this magnum of 2001 Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (OWC - 96RP, 96ST) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What a joy it is to taste Molinari’s 2001 Brunello di Montalcino. A dark, translucent ruby, it opens with a profound, deeply expressive nose followed by notes of licorice, tar, black cherries and smoke that take on new dimensions of complexity as this great wine sits in the glass. Deceptively medium in body, it shows plenty of vibrant fruit, structure and fine, noble tannins which insure it will still be a magical wine in 15 years and likely beyond. This Brunello has been nothing short of stunning on the two occasions I’ve tasted it so far and it is undoubtedly one of the vintage’s unqualified successes. It is highly recommended. Recent bottles of the 1999 and 1990 have also been immensely enjoyable. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2023. (AG)" (12/2006)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Sine Qua Non "No 6" Yamhill County Pinot Noir (91ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good red-ruby. Complex nose combines red cherry, raspberry, woodsmoke and cinnamon. Sweet, silky and dense, with enticing flavors of strawberry and exotic spices. Remarkably large-scaled and generous for the year, and long and ripe on the back end, with suave, fine tannins. Oaky, but the wood element is successfully integrated.
