2012 Georg Albrecht Schneider "vom Rotliegenden" Niersteiner Hipping Riesling Spätlese Trocken (dry) (Elsewhere $18)

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Pretty floral and apricot aromas brighten savory apple notes on this dry, but intensely honeyed Riesling. Bright and brisk on the palate, with searing lime acidity, it finishes long, with a refreshing spray of green herbs." (6/2014)91 points Wine Spectator: "Shows a peppery edge to the dried apple, pear and apricot flavors, with crushed stone notes and hints of smoke on the powerful and well-structured finish. Drink now through 2018. 400 cases made. -KM" (2/2014) K&L Notes: The 2012 vintage was particularly successful for dry wines in Germany, with their firm and minerally profiles realized by ... 2013 Josef Leitz "Dragonstone" Riesling (Previously $18)

Extraordinarily aromatic, vigorous wines from a vintner who grows more commanding each vintage. This is the wine that once was called Rüdesheimer Drachenstein, and it’s the wine David Schildknecht said was the best Riesling value in the world, which is because Johannes sells it to us for much less than it’s worth. For a large-production wine this receives the same care in the vineyards and cellar that every Leitz wine receives.

2013 Josef Leitz "Eins Zwei Dry" Rheingau Riesling Trocken (Dry)

A wonderfully dry, but not mouth-searing style of Riesling for those who love the delicate attributes of the noble Riesling varietal but aren't keen on any residual sugar. Makes for a nice aperitif or to wash down grilled sausages and even matches deliciously with smoked fish.

2013 Dönnhoff Estate Riesling Trocken (Dry)

Jancis Robinson: "Bright fruit but not (too) painful acidity. Very well etched and balanced. Drink to 2017." (5/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Most of all sourced in Oberhausen vineyards, so predominantly from volcanic soils, the 2013 Riesling Trocken is a clear, bright, piquant, fresh and light to medium-bodied Riesling with a straightforward character and a salty finish. It's quite characterful for an entry level. (SR)" (1/2015) Wine Spectator: "There's a strong minerally cast to the ripe apple and green pear flavors, with a languid finish that has some spicy notes." K&L Notes: Donnhoff's fresh, dry Riesling comes from 15- to 3... Read More »

2013 Dr. F. Weins-Prüm Estate Riesling (Feinherb)

If you haven't had the wines from this estate you should. They are classy, elegant and don't try to beat you into submission by being anything they are not. The estate wine from Dr F Weins-Prüm is feinherb in style. What does that mean? Basically it is a wine that is dry, but with just a touch fruitiness to it that makes it an easygoing, quaffable wine for everyday use. This particular one is loaded with crisp apple and ripe peach, with rounded out minerality and a juicy finish. Before you know it, the bottle will be empty. It's a good wine any time of t... 2013 Peter Lauer "Barrel X" Riesling

Peter Lauerand his sons Peter and Florian are the proprietors of a tiny little hotel and restaurant in the village of Ayl, on the west side of the Saar River. Their winery is located next door to the hotel, and it seems as though many of the guests leave with a case or two of wine. This is how Weingut Peter Lauer subsisted for many generations. But now Lauer has garned something of a cult following, and if you haven't tried on of their dry or off-dry Rieslings, you are truly missing out. The Barrel X is the winery's entry level offering, but it's so much... Read More »

2012 Emrich-Schönleber "Lenz" Riesling (Previously $23)

Jancis Robinson: "The Lenz does not bother with any taste descriptors, but I would class it as borderline trocken/feinherb. Lenz is a traditional German term for spring, and with its mouthwatering grapefruit flavour supplemented by a dash of spice, you may well compare the wine to the beginning of a fine spring day -- fresh as dew and cool as the morning breeze." 2010 Wittmann Estate Riesling Trocken (Previously $32)

Jancis Robinson: "Green hints in pale lemon. Has that fresh-cut green leaf and lily-blossom smell of a florist shop. Lime and spun sugar and quinine and laurel. Oh so easy to drink. GV (TC)" (1/2012) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "...recommended, but no tasting note given." (12/2011) K&L Notes: One of those Rheinhessen producers responsible for enhancing this often under-appreciated region's prestige, Philipp Wittmann aims for a racy, clean style of Riesling.

2009 S. A. Prum "Urziger Wurzgarten" Riesling Kabinett New!
2009 S. A. Prum "Urziger Wurzgarten" Riesling Kabinett

"The prevailing portion of the vineyards are still with unovercrowded (autochthonous) Riesling shoots planted. They are on steep slopes up to 70% which provide by low water supply and scanty ground for an of course low yield. These shoots are rooted very deeply and win their care from the very mineral-containing slate grounds from the Devon age. These steep hills make a machine treatment nearly impossible, so that also even today nearly any work must be done by hand and this during the whole year...[Urziger Wurzgarten is] situated on slopes facing East-s...
