French Wine

When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its regions, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and occasionally as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a 100 lives. To understand and appreciate French wine, you only need to begin tasting them. Check out some of the top picks that our buyers have tracked down - several of these wines are imported directly from France.

2004 Domaine Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Sentiers
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Domaine Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Sentiers (92WS, (88-90BH), 89ST). 92 Points Wine Spectator Insider, 04/07: "Fine intensity here, along with blackberry, licorice and mineral notes. It’s ripe and harmonious, with a firm underlying structure and a long finish evoking mineral and sandalwood." 88-90 points Allen Meadows: "A bit of toast frames very a different aromatic profile as here the nose is somber, backward and tight revealing only hints of pretty red and somewhat vegetal fruit notes that continue onto the minerally and firm middle weight flavors that culminate in a punchy, linear finish of moderate length. I suspect this will deepen and add weight as it seems unduly lean compared to the rest of the range." (Burghound.com, Jan 01, 2006)

2003 Mommessin Grand Cru Clos de Tart
Bid on this bottle of 2003 Mommessin Grand Cru Clos de Tart (95WS, (91-94ST), 92BH). Wine Spectator: " **Top 100 Wines of 2006 - Collectibles** Aromas of tar and smoke, with very pure, concentrated blackberry and spice notes underneath mark this exotic, seductive red. Silky and complex, it caresses the palate. It needs a little time to absorb the oak, but this is long and has great potential. Best from 2009 through 2030." (05/2006)

1986 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (95RP, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted 7 Times Since Bottling With Consistent Notes. The 1986 is a highly extracted wine, with a black/ruby color and plenty of toasty, smoky notes in its bouquet that suggest ripe plums and licorice. Evolving at a glacial pace, it exhibits massive, huge, ripe, extremely concentrated flavors with impressive depth and richness. It possesses more power, weight, and tannin than the more opulent and currently more charming 1985." (10/1994)

2007 Lucien le Moine Grands Echezeaux
Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2007 Lucien le Moine Grands Echezeaux ((92-94BH), (93-94RP), 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The barrel of Le Moine 2007 Grands-Echezeaux smells pungently of dried herbs, white pepper, and smoky black tea, along with plum and red currant that go on to inform a vibrantly fresh-fruited palate, finishing with tremendous energy and grip, and with a suffusion of chalk added to the smoky and herbal themes announced on the nose. There is a lot of very fine-grained tannin here but the overall weave of this wine is seamless and I feel sure that it harbors serious 15 or more year cellar potential." (06/2010)

2003 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2003 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (100RP, 97WE, 96JS, 96WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A modern day version of the 1959 Lafite, the 2003 Lafite Rothschild was bottled in mid-May, 2005 after achieving 12.9% natural alcohol - hardly an astonishing figure given the vintage's weather conditions. A combination of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, it represents a ripe version of the essence of Lafite-Rothschild. Dense purple-colored, with classic notes of graphite intertwined with melted licorice, creme de cassis, smoke, and flowers, it reveals extraordinary richness, opulence, power, purity, intensity, and viscosity. Whether this wine will close down or not is questionable as it is somewhat atypical given its sweetness and softness." (04/2006)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru "Vieilles Vignes" (OWC - (95-98ST), (94-97RP), (93-96BH)) in original wood. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, deep red. Pungent, vital aromas of fresh raspberry, crushed rock, wild herbs, licorice and mint. Darker and wilder than the Amoureuses, boasting incredible intensity of fresh fruit and mineral flavors given further lift and precision by strong acidity (the pH here is about 3.4, according to winemaker Millet). This extremely primary 2010 is most impressive today on the great subtly mounting, saline finish, which leaves the salivary glands humming." (01/2012)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1998 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (97WS, 96RP, 94ST, 93JS). Wine Spectator: "Dark color, with decadent aromas of truffles, meat, ripe berries and tobacco. Turns to sweet, crushed berries. Full-bodied, with very polished tannins and a berry and mineral aftertaste. The serious tannin structure is still hiding behind the fruit of the wine. Tightly wound and beautiful. Solid as a rock. A classic wine. (Web, 2009)"

1957 Maison Leroy Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cazetiers"
Bid on this bottle of 1957 Maison Leroy Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cazetiers" (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "(With thanks to Dr. Reed Day). Bricked through though a core of ruby remains. As one would expect the nose is dominated by sous bois and earth aromas that possess the classic Cazetiers animale component that carries over to the delicious and impressively complex flavors that evidence both the minerality and robust muscle that would reasonably be expected, all wrapped in a long, sappy and ever-so-mildly austere finish that is characteristic of the '57 vintage. Note that this was a recent Leroy release and therefore is probably in better shape than older releases." (12/2009)

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2002 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien (OWC - 92RP, (90-92ST)) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better from bottle than from cask, and one of the finest wines of the vintage, this dense purple-colored 2002 reveals wonderfully sweet notes of charcoal, fresh mushrooms, smoke, earth, leather, cassis, and cedar. Full-bodied, highly extracted, broodingly backward, dense, and deep, this impressively endowed offering is built for the long term. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2028." (04/2005)

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine Niellon Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Jean (92BH, 91WS, 90ST). "Outstanding" and 92 points Allen Meadows: " An intensely herb and green fruit suffused nose that is sprinkled with discreet wet stone notes are picked up by the elegant, pure and detailed flavors that possess excellent mid-palate fat as well as a highly persistent finish where the intensity really picks up. Niellon often produces outstanding wine from this vineyard and that is certainly the case in '08." Tasted: Jun 01, 2010)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This also displays moderate new wood influence that largely if not completely stays out of the way of the perfumed ripe violet, soy and hoisin suffused blue Pinot fruit aromas that are in keeping with the spicy, rich, round and utterly delicious flavors that are quite supple on the mid-palate and culminate in a highly complex and lingering finish." Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Maison Nicolas Potel Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Gaudichots" ((91-93BH), (90-93ST)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Captivating nose combines sappy dark raspberry, smoke and roast coffee. Lush, broad and dry, with firm acidity currently keeping the flavors under wraps. This conveys strong minerality but is very tight today. Finishes with a solid tannic structure." (04/2008)

2006 Joseph Drouhin Musigny Grand Cru
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Joseph Drouhin Musigny Grand Cru (95RP, 95WE, 91ST, 90BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Musky floral notes suggesting narcissus, magnolia, and perhaps some sort of exotic orchid mingle in the nose of Drouhin's 2006 Musigny with quinine, birch beer, and kirsch. The palate boasts remarkable richness and sheer viscosity for the vintage – though little superficial sweetness – along with textural refinement that goes beyond even the best of the rest of this year's Drouhin collection. Fruit pit bitterness; brown spices; roasting pan reduction of meat and fat; and an almost palpable sense of chalky and ore-like minerality add to the mystery and invigoration of a vibratory finish. This tastes awfully delicious today, though it should probably be given a few years in bottle. It ought to perform marvelously for at least a decade. (DS)" (12/2009)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Bouchard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Reignots" ((92-94CG), 94ST, 90WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright, dark red. Brooding, deep nose offers raspberry, dark chocolate and sassafras. Wonderfully rich but a bit youthfully medicinal today, combining a deep sweetness and superb precision and intensity of flavor. Bright acids keep its tight core of fruits and exotic spices under wraps today. This struck me as the most backward of Bouchard's three outstanding Vosne premier crus in 2005. 94+" (03/2008)

Bid on this bottle of 2003 Domaine Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Sentiers ((88-91BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Interestingly for two vineyards that are relatively near one another, this is much more aromatically elegant and fine though it does display the same toasty oak hints on the nose. The sappy, rich and full-bodied flavors are wonderfully complex and completely coat the palate on the lengthy backend. There is also more Chambolle character in evidence as this is a wine of finesse despite the generous and forward sappy texture." (01/2005)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Haut-Bailly is a candidate for the finest wine of the appellation. Its dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by classic aromas of scorched earth, sweet black currants, cherries, and a hint of pain grille. Light on its feet, but substantially flavored, it possesses stunning purity, good acidity, ripe tannin, and abundant flavor as well as length. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " Approaching full maturity, Pichon-Lalande’s1989 has a deep ruby/plum color with some lightening at the edge. The nose offers sweet plums and creme de cassis intermixed with vanilla and graphite. The wine is lush, medium to full-bodied, and layered with texture, low acidity, sweet tannin, and the hallmark purity and elegance this estate routinely produces. Bid on this bottle of 2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (100RP, 98JS, 96ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An amazing wine in every sense, this classic, full-bodied Pauillac is the quintessential Pontet Canet from proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who continues to reduce yields and farms his vineyards biodynamically a rarity in Bordeaux. Black as a moonless night, the 2009 Pontet Canet offers up notes of incense, graphite, smoke, licorice, creme de cassis and blackberries. A wine of irrefutable purity, laser-like precision, colossal weight and richness, and sensational freshness, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is capable of lasting 50 or more years. The tannins are elevated, but they are sweet and beautifully integrated as are the acidity, wood and alcohol (which must be in excess of 14%). This vineyard, which is situated on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, appears to have done everything perfectly in 2009. This cuvee should shut down in the cellar an

1990 Haut-Marbuzet, St-Estèphe (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 1990 Haut-Marbuzet, St-Estèphe (1.5L). Michael Broadbent called 1990 a five-star vintage: "An excellent vintage with similar attributes to the '89 but certainly not an identical twin." 93 points Robert Parker: "The 1990 is a more classic, tannic, and concentrated example of Haut-Marbuzet. The wine displays a dark ruby/purple color, followed by a lavishly-oaked, vanillin, roasted nut, herb, and sweet, jammy blackcurrant, and olive-scented nose. Rich and opulent, with a thick, chewy texture, low acidity, and gobs of fruit, this hedonistic, decadently oaky, fruity wine will continue to drink well for 10-12 years. In my opinion, it is the finest Haut-Marbuzet since the fabulous 1982." (02/97)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Along with Leoville Las Cases and a few others, this is among the stars of the appellation. Made in a more floral, supple, Margaux-like style, the deep ruby/purple-hued 2004 Leoville Poyferre exhibits sweet, broad flavors, and plenty of tannin lurking beneath the surface. However, the abundant cherry, black currant, licorice, and smoke notes obscure the tannic clout. This rich, powerful, broad beauty should be drinkable in 2-3 years, and last for two decades. Bid on this 3-magnum lot of 2006 Michel Colin-Deleger Puligny-Montrachet "Demoiselles" (1.5L) (93BH, 91ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As pretty as the En Remilly is, not surprisingly this is ever bit as refined and pure yet a good deal more complex with intense and airy floral aromas introducing gorgeously intense flavors supported by plenty of underlying tension, which lends that beguiling sense of vibrancy to the hugely long finish. This is a really impressive vintage for this wine and it goes toe to toe with the Chevy and does not suffer in the comparison." (07/2008)

1994 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1994 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Michel Delon, a great man, is the consummate proprietor, meticulously administering this vast estate spread out along the St.-Julien/Pauillac border, separated from Latour's finest vineyard by a mere ten feet. The 1993-95 vintages from Delon are brilliant wines. Leoville-Las-Cases remains one of the irrefutable reference points for high class Bordeaux. One of the more massive Medocs of the vintage, this opaque purple-colored wine exhibits fabulous richness and volume in the mouth. Layers of pure black-cherry and cassis fruit are intermixed with stony, mineral-like scents, as well as high quality toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied, with a sweet, rich entry, this wine possesses plenty of tannin, yet fabulous extract and length. Leoville-Las-Cases is one of the half-dozen great wines of the Medoc in 1994. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025. This lion never falls asleep on the job!" (02/1997)

1996 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (100RP, 96ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted three times since bottling, the 1996 Lafite-Rothschild is unquestionably this renowned estate's greatest wine...This massive wine may be the biggest, largest-scaled Lafite I have ever tasted. It will require many years to come around, so I suspect all of us past the age of fifty might want to give serious consideration as to whether we should be laying away multiple cases of this wine. It is also the first Lafite-Rothschild to be put into a new engraved bottle (designed to prevent fraudulent imitations). The wine exhibits a thick-looking, ruby/purple color, and a knock-out nose of lead pencil, minerals, flowers, and black currant scents. Extremely powerful and full-bodied, with remarkable complexity for such a young wine, this huge Lafite is oozing with extract and richness, yet has managed to preserve its quintessentially elegant personality. This wine is even riche

Pungent, slightly high-toned aromas of raspberry, coffee and cocoa powder; leading with its fruit today. Then wonderfully suave, vibrant and pure in the mouth, with outstanding intensity of crystallized fruit flavors and an impression of sappiness that cuts through the wine's thickness. This, too, saturates the palate with flavor and finishes with outstanding class and lingering perfume. " (03/2009)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru (94BH, 93RP, 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "**Outstanding** A more deeply pitched, riper and notably more complex nose that is restrained, cool and positively gorgeous as seemingly all of the spicy elements it projects are perfectly reflected by the textured, concentrated and naturally sweet big-bodied flavors brimming with minerality and buckets of extract that render the firm tannic spine almost invisible on the direct, frank and driving finish that is almost painfully intense and where the floral character of the nose resurfaces. A flat out brilliant wine for this level and best that de Vogüé has ever made." (01/2009)

2001 Mommessin Grand Cru Clos de Tart
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Mommessin Grand Cru Clos de Tart (94RP, 93BH, 93ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Clos de Tart is aging beautifully and is maturing into one of Sylvain Pitiot’s finest wines. Replicating its performance in 2010, it has a very expressive bouquet of vivacious red berry fruit: wild strawberry and raspberry, laced with minerals and dried rose petals. The palate is very well-balanced and full of succulent brambly red fruit. Perhaps it is moving into its secondary phase less slowly than I anticipated, with nuanced undergrowth notes developing toward the finish, which remains very fruit-driven and tense. There is a sense of style and class to this Clos de Tart, a grand cru bound to age with those same attributes over the following decade and beyond. Drink now-2024+." (04/2014)

This is not a huge wine but one that is impressively harmonious as everything is in perfect balance. A precise and driving finish adds an exclamation point to what is already a very classy wine." Bid on this 9-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine de la Mordorée "Cuvée de la Reine des Bois" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 94ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " More youthful and backwards, the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de La Reine des Bois has been incredibly consistent for me and always comes in near the top of the scale. Black raspberry, blackberry, wood smoke, licorice, crushed rock-like minerality and smoked beef are just some of the nuances here, and it hits the palate with serious levels of fruit, thrilling structure and blockbuster length. It still needs another handful of years to hit full maturity, but its off-the-hook good today (assuming you’re not completely against tannin). (JD)" (08/2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dramatically site-typical in its pungent scents of peat, Latakia tobacco, smoked meats, and licorice, the Rousseau 2008 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes offers a rich yet vibrant amalgam of dark cherry, licorice, and tobacco on smoothly polished yet palpably extract-rich palate. This appears to offer excellent potential to improve and is more classic in style than any of the above wines with the exception of the Cazetiers. There is real flavor intensity, fine detail and good power yet no lack of elegance. A terrific 2000." (01/2002)

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos" (96RP, 95BH, 94ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The star of this extraordinary line-up is Domaine William Fevre’s show-stopping 2004 Chablis Les Clos (domaine). Its creamed stone aromatics are followed by a bold, muscular, powerful character. Medium to full-bodied and ample, it explodes on the palate, unleashing waves of iodine-laced minerals, white fruits, and liquefied rocks. This masculine counterpart to the Les Preuses is suave, seamless, and immensely concentrated. Projected maturity: 2008-2017. Though it is difficult to fathom, Fevre’s 2005 Chablis Les Clos, tasted at an unbelievably young age, was even bigger, denser, and more powerful! Bravo!" (06/2006)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 E. Guigal "Ex Voto" Ermitage ((94-96RP), (94-96ST), 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The debut release of the Hermitage Ex-Voto, the spectacular 2001 spent 42 months in new French oak. Produced from four vineyard sites, l’Hermite, Les Murets, Les Greffieux, and Les Bessards, it boasts an amazingly thick purple color as well as a rich, sumptuous bouquet of smoke, licorice, creme de cassis, and earth. Full-bodied and rich, with good acidity and magnificent concentration, this is a tour de force in red Hermitage. Given its high tannin and crisp acidity, it will require patience. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Lascombes, Margaux (93RP, 91ST, 90W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another brilliant effort from this estate, the 2004 Lascombes (a blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot) exhibits a deep blue/purple hue along with a sweet perfume of blueberries, black raspberries, cherries, incense, smoke, and spring flowers. While opulent, underneath the full-bodied richness of fruit and depth is a structured wine. As it sits in the glass, an espresso roast character (no doubt from new oak) also emerges. It is an exceptionally powerful wine with a dense purple color, superb intensity, and a beautiful, sweet nose of spring flowers, raspberries, blueberries, graphite, and creme de cassis. Full-bodied with fabulous concentration, exceptionally high tannin, good acidity, and massive layers of richness that build incrementally on the palate, this monumental effort is more structured than their outstanding 2003. Red currant, kirsch, freesia, citrus zest, and smoky black tea in the nose lead to a palate performance of brightness, wafting florality, and interactive complexity such would befit a great Riesling, with saline and subtly carnal savor as well as a crystalline sense of minerality shimmering through a long finish. This should be worth following for 15-20 years but I would on no account miss out on drinking some young as well. (DS)" (06/2010)

2008 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Bonnes Mares Grand Cru ((92-94BH), (93-94RP), 92ST). 92-94 Burghound: "A more deeply pitched nose of cool and reserved red and black cherry aromas that are quite fresh and pure and are laced more with warm earth than stone though both are present. The focused and detailed broad-shouldered flavors are blessed with ample dry extract that cuts a bit of the austerity on the linear, serious, mouth coating and hugely long finish. As is often the case, this is notably more somber than the Amoureuses and trades elegance for power and muscle." 93-94 From Parker's Wine Advocate: "Scents and flavors of grenadine, blueberry syrup, distilled herbal concentrates, as well as rose and peony floral notes surprisingly akin to those found in its siblings from Musigny mark the de Vogue 2008 Bonnes Mares. Saline, savory meat stock elements – which Millet considers “not really a true minerality like that of the Amoureuses” – suffuse a palate of impres

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru "Les Beaux Monts" (96RP, (92-96ST), 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This dark-colored wine is a cut above. Profound aromas of intensely sweet cherries, raspberries, stones, and earth give way to a full-bodied, extremely feminine, and massively ripe and vibrant core of roses, cherries, and candied blueberries. This silky-textured, hedonistic (yet wonderfully structured), and focused wine ends on an incredibly long and detailed finish. Projected maturity: 2004-2010+. (PR)" (08/1998)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Mazoyeres Chambertin Grand Cru (93BH, 92WS). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As it almost always is, here the nose is deeper and more serious with more obvious earth and game notes that add depth to the red and dark berry fruit aromas that merge into delicious, round and distinctly more masculine and powerful flavors that are punchy, long and while not rustic, certainly more robust than those of the Charmes. This duo presents almost the contrast as it did in 2005 with their qualitative similarity but quite different personalities. A high class choice." (01/2008)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " A killer wine (I’m so sorry I didn’t buy any), the 2003 La Mondotte is clearly one of the superstars of the vintage. An intriguing perfume of licorice, Asian soy, black currant jam, ripe cherries and subtle toast emerges from this extravagantly rich, voluptuously textured, opulent, full-bodied St.-Emilion. Bid on this 10-bottle lot of 2003 Frédéric Magnien Pommard 1er Cru "Les Grands Épenots" (94RP, (90-92BH)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As was reported in my article on the 2003s of southern Burgundy (Issue #158), Pommard produced some of the vintage’s finest efforts. In other words, Frederic Magnien knew what he was doing when he served his 2003 Pommard Grands Epenots after all his premier crus from the Cote de Nuits. This immense wine boasts a nose of black fruits and spices. Full-bodied, it is hugely concentrated, powerful, and chunky. Its flavor profile, composed of spice-laden blackberries and dark cherries, slathers the palate, lingering for more than 45 seconds. Somewhat uncivilized at present, this brawny, bulky wine will require cellaring. Projected maturity: 2010-2020. (PR)" (08/2005)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Etienne Sauzet Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (95BH, 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "**Don't Miss!** In contrast to the expressiveness of the Bienvenues, this is aromatically quite closed and tight with only glimpses of orchard fruit, citrus and floral notes discernable though the big-bodied and obviously well-muscled flavors are rich, pure and balanced if perhaps not quite as concentrated but somewhat curious, are even finer, which is not the usual result when these two wines are compared. The explosive finish is almost painfully intense and every bit as long as that of the Bienvenues. A qualitative choice though the character and personality of the two is notably different." Lush, suave, and medium to full-bodied, this intensely expressive wine is crammed with superb red fruit flavors. It is a sublime expression of the art of winemaking as evidenced by its dense purple color and big, sweet kiss of kirsch, framboise, blackberries, licorice, roasted herbs, and smoked meat. It hits the palate with a fascinating combination of substance, power, full-bodied authority yet extraordinary freshness, elegance, and precision. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Beausejour (Duffau-Lagarrosse), St-Emilion (100RP, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most singular Bordeaux I have ever tasted, it verges on being port-like, but it pulls back because of the extraordinary minerality and laser-like focus. The wine is massively concentrated, still black/purple-hued to the rim, and offers a nose of incense, blackberries, blueberry liqueur, acacia flowers, and forest floor. It reveals low acidity and high tannins, which are largely concealed by the sheer concentration and lavish glycerin the wine possesses. Aging at a glacial pace, it is approachable, but it will not hit its peak until 2020; it should last for twenty years thereafter. (RP)" (06/2009)

Even at age 19, it continues to strut its stuff. A dense blue/garnet/purple hue exhibits slight lightening at the edge, and the gorgeous nose offers up aromas of sweet blueberries, licorice, smoke, acacia flowers, and camphor. An exuberant, atypically flamboyant effort, it possesses supple texture, medium to full body, sweet fruit, plenty of glycerin, and attractive melted tannin. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1989 has taken forever to shed its formidable tannins, but what a great vintage of Lynch Bages! I would rank it at the top of the pyramid... Its dense purple color reveals a slight lightening at the edge and the stunning bouquet offers classic notes of creme de cassis, subtle smoke, oak and graphite. Powerful and rich with some tannins still to shed at age 22, it is still a young adolescent in terms of its evolutionand will benefit from another 4-5 years of cellaring. Still backward with a deep ruby/plum color revealing only a touch of lightening at the edge, the wine offers up an extraordinary nose of caramelized herbs, smoke, cedar, pen ink, black currants, and earth. The gorgeous aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, plump, rich, fleshy wine with low acidity. With 6-8 hours decanting in a closed decanter, it will offer beautiful drinking, but it needs another 5-8 years to reach full maturity. It is capable of lasting 50-60 years. (97+) (RP)" (06/2009)

1995 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan
Bid on this bottle of 1995 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan (95RP, 92WS, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This vintage is aging at a glacial pace and the tannins are currently more significant than their counterbalancing components of fruit and glycerin. While the word “potential” seems to be the most positive descriptor for this vintage, there are some nagging doubts about whether all the tannins will melt away and the fruit will hold. As in most 1995s, the color remains a healthy dark plum/purple. One of the bigger wines of the vintage, the ripe, powerful Merlot component has buttressed the Cabernet elements, giving the wine plenty of body, tannin and La Mission’s classic asphalt, cassis, blackberry, smoky barbecue, meaty notes intermixed with a hint of hot rocks. The 1995 is still a young wine and I am beginning to wonder if this vintage overall will resemble 1975 rather than something with more charm? Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035?. (95+) (RP)" (08/2012)

1996 Clos de l'Oratoire, St-Emilion
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1996 Clos de l'Oratoire, St-Emilion (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Proprietor Comte de Neipperg is doing everything possible to elevate this estate's reputation. Readers should take note as prices are sure to rise once the world discovers just how sumptuous recent vintages of Clos de l'Oratoire have been. The 1996 is even better out of bottle than it was from cask. The wine boasts an opaque plum/purple color. Intense aromas of Asian spices, espresso, roasted meats, and sweet, exotic cedar and blackberry fruit soar from the glass of this exotic, ostentatiously-styled St.-Emilion. It is medium to full-bodied, with moderate tannin, a sweet mid-palate (always a good sign), and a dense, concentrated, long, powerful finish. (RP)" (04/1999)

Wine Enthusiast: "Owner of one of the largest parcels of Clos de Vougeot, Grivot makes one of the benchmark wines from the vineyard. This starts out dry to taste, but then there is an explosion of strawberry and red currant fruits as the tannins fall back to reveal a wine that, while big, is certainly not overwhelming—leave that to more powerful vintages than 2004. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Heresztyn Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru "Les Millandes" ((91-93BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is very ripe but stops short of surmaturité with notes of violets, plum and subtle spice and earth notes leading to rich and full-bodied flavors that have a distinct mineral edge on the complex, punchy and naturally sweet finish that delivers superb length. This is harmonious and transparent with really lovely depth and should age very well. Multidimensional nose offers black cherry, pungent minerals, brown spices, dark chocolate, mocha and underbrush, lifted by a positive peppery note. Dense, layered and sweet, with terrific spicy depth to its dark fruit flavors. This boasts uncanny volume for the year. Finishes wonderfully silky and very long, with extremely suave tannins. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely amazing wine...It comes from one of the few biodynamic vineyards in Bordeaux, but you are likely to see many more, given the success that Tesseron seems to be having at all levels, both in his vineyards and in his fermentation/winemaking. An astounding, compelling wine with the classic Pauillac nose more often associated with its cross-street neighbor, Mouton-Rothschild, creme de cassis, there are also some violets and other assorted floral notes. The wine has off-the-charts massiveness and intensity but never comes across as heavy, overbearing or astringent. Yet this has its feet on the ground, with a mineral element that emerges on the lingering finish. Shows lovely harmony and sophistication. Best from 2014 through 2030." (06/11) 92-95 and Don't Miss! From Allen Meadows: "The spicy and densely fruited nose is stunningly elegant with breathtaking purity and is followed by rich, intense and powerful broad-scaled flavors that are naturally sweet and precise, all culminating in an explosive and highly persistent finish. This is by no means a really big Musigny yet it is impeccably well-balanced, fresh and complete. In sum, this is a seriously fine effort." Wine Spectator: "Shows so much ripe and decadent fruit on the nose, from dried berries and raisin to strawberry and sultana. There is a nutty, cedar undertone as well. Very complex and full-bodied, with lots of vanilla bean and ripe plum flavors. This is almost Burgundian in texture: so soft and so attractive, but then the Bordeaux tannins kick in at the end. 1996 Léoville-Las Cases, St-Julien
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Léoville-Las Cases, St-Julien (98RP, 96ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A profound Leoville Las Cases, it is one of the great modern day wines of Bordeaux. This wine's hallmark remains a sur-maturite (over-ripeness) of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. Yet the wine has retained its intrinsic classicism, symmetry, and profound potential for complexity and elegance. The black/purple color is followed by a spectacular nose of cassis, cherry liqueur, pain grille, and minerals. It is powerful and rich on the attack, with beautifully integrated tannin, massive concentration, yet no hint of heaviness or disjointedness. As this wine sits in the glass it grows in stature and richness. It is a remarkable, seamless, palate-staining, and extraordinarily elegant wine - the quintessential St.-Julien. Despite the sweetness of the tannin, I would recommend cellaring this wine for 7-8 years. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2035." (04/1999)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les St.-Georges again illustrates roasted richness and a seamless meld of meat, fruit and mineral. Hints of tar and toasted pecan add further aromatic complexity. Dramatically expansive and mouth-coating, with endless variations – distilled, fresh, sorbet-like – on black cherry, purple plum, and their pits, this wine weaves tar, iodine, and chalk into its supremely long finish. The supple yet detailed middle weight plus flavors are attractively vibrant and restrained while culminating in a moderately austere finish where the mouth coating tannins are still noticeably firm and ever so slightly dry, which may be due to wood tannins. 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné "La Chapelle" Hermitage
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné "La Chapelle" Hermitage (100RP, 97WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 La Chapelle is sexy and opulent. I had the 1990 at the Jaboulet tasting, and again out of a double magnum three months ago. On both occasions it was spectacular, clearly meriting a three-digit score. The modern day equivalent of the 1961, it deserves all the attention it has garnered. The color remains an opaque purple, with only a slight pink at the edge. Spectacular aromatics offer up aromas of incense, smoke, blackberry fruit, cassis, barbecue spice, coffee, and a touch of chocolate. As it sits in the glass, additional nuances of pepper and grilled steak emerge. There is extraordinary freshness for such a mammoth wine in addition to abundant tannin, an amazing 60-second finish, and a level of glycerin and thick, fleshy texture that have to be tasted to be believed. Despite its youthfulness, the 1990 La Chapelle is lovely to drink, although it will be e

1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe (100RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The final blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc was harvested between September 14 and October 3. The spring was cold, yet summer was extremely hot and dry – one of the hottest vintages since 1949. The fact that virtually no rain fell in September served as a catalyst to get all the grapes ripe and in cellars....This wine has an incredibly complex nose of spring flowers, blackberry and cassis liqueur, scorched earth and barbecue spice. It is full-bodied, majestic and opulent, with low acidity and fabulous fruit. It is close to full maturity. The wine should continue to drink well for at least another 30 or more years, but it is showing secondary nuances in the perfume. The wine is absolutely magnificent, broad, savory and mouth-filling. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2009 Ruchottes-Chambertin bursts from the glass with dark red fruit, violets, mint and crushed rocks. There is a sense of wildness and pure unrestrained energy that is beautiful to behold. The 2009 needs time to finds its center, but when it does everything works beautifully. Here, too, the 2009 is very closed in on itself. Layers of fruit build effortlessly to the intense, saline finish. This is another hugely promising wine from Philippe Pacalet. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (95RP, 94ST, 93JS, 93WS, 92WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "95+ points. The 2006 is a wine to stockpile, especially for those in their thirties and forties as it needs another decade to reach maturity, after which it should keep for 30+ years. This vineyard, just south of Mouton Rothschild, has produced an opaque bluish/purple-colored 2006 with an extraordinarily pure nose of graphite, charcoal, sweet creme de cassis, and a hint of scorched earth. Incredible concentration, stunning richness, and a 60-second finish result in a wine that transcends the vintage as well as this estate’s 1855 classification. 1996 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien (96RP, 94ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 is long, with a deep mid-palate. It also reveals tannin in the finish. This wine is remarkable. It is muscular, concentrated, and classic. Bottled in late June, 1998, it exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color, as well as a knock-out nose of minerals, licorice, cassis, and an unmistakable lead pencil smell that I often associate with top vintages of Lafite-Rothschild. It is sweet and full-bodied, yet unbelievably rich with no sense of heaviness or flabbiness. The wine possesses high tannin, but it is extremely ripe, and the sweetness of the black currant, spice-tinged Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is pronounced. This profound, backward Ducru-Beaucaillou is a must purchase. ...Anticipated maturity: 2008-2035. (RP)" (04/1999)

2002 Launois "Special Club" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne (1.5L)
Bid on this 3-magnum lot of 2002 Launois "Special Club" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne (1.5L). Powerful Blanc de Blancs that gets its richness from old vines and a delayed harvest. It might seem strange that the top bottling is offered younger than the regular vintage, but Mr. Bernard Launois is adamant that extensive sur-lie ageing is reductive and shortens the ultimate life span of the wine. He goes against almost every other producer in Champagne with this iconoclastic opinion, but for anyone who has tasted perfectly stored, great Champagne that has aged on cork, we know it can work! Made from two plots of 65-year-old vines, one in the Grand Cru of Oger called the Chenys and one in Mesnil called the Derriere Maison, this is one of the ultimate expressions of Chardonnay that we have to offer. James Suckling: "Fabulous nose of spice, mushrooms, blueberries and blackberries follows through to a full body, with firm tannins and a silky tannins. This is so savory and beautiful. 1989 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1989 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (96WS, 90ST). Wine Spectator: "Shows so much ripe and decadent fruit on the nose, from dried berries and raisin to strawberry and sultana. There is a nutty, cedar undertone as well. Very complex and full-bodied, with lots of vanilla bean and ripe plum flavors. This is almost Burgundian in texture: so soft and so attractive, but then the Bordeaux tannins kick in at the end. What a wine. So much ahead in its life, but just coming around now.—'89/'99 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2009). Drink now. (Web-2010)"

2010 Cantemerle, Haut-Médoc
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Cantemerle, Haut-Médoc (94JS, 94RP, 92WE, 91WS, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The wine needs a good 7-10 years of cellaring and should keep for 30 more years, but this is the finest Cantemerle I have encountered in my professional career of tasting young vintages (dating back 34 years now). Stunningly deep ruby/purple, with a beautiful nose of spring flowers intermixed with perfumed raspberry and blueberry notes, it exhibits a sort of cool-climate character. Broad, rich and intense on the palate, the wine has plenty of tannins, but they are sweet and well-integrated. Everything is delicately entwined into this beautiful, medium to full-bodied, dense purple wine, which shows stunning character and a prodigious potential for development. This is definitely a major sleeper of the vintage and even better than I thought from barrel. With its 2010, this classified growth located in the southern end of the Medoc may well have made a modern-day version

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A spicy, ripe, perfumed and almost airy nose combines seductively ripe crushed red and black fruit aromas. At once lush yet precise with rich, full and sweet flavors that are focused and unusually powerful, particularly for the vintage. Really good stuff here with a finish that's like a coiled spring as it's taut and one can feel the inner vibrancy." (01/2006)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Bouchard Pere et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (96BH, 96RP, 95ST, 95WE, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bouchard's 2007 Corton-Charlemagne - the last wine they picked - offers another of those occasions for reflecting on a bit of Burgundian craziness: a grand cru wine presented last in a stellar line-up, yet that costs on-half to one-third that of the other grand cru bottlings that preceded it. A striking and intensely pungent aroma of holly berry, fresh ginger, and lime zest leads to a vivacious, silken-textured, chalky, saline, crustacean palate. For all of this wine's sheer intensity and palpable sense of underlying extract, it shares lift, buoyancy, and overall elegance with its Chevalier-Montrachet counterparts and preserves the energy and primary, juicy refreshment that goes with its vintage. The diversity and persistence of mineral elements here are memorable." (12/2009)

2006 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2006 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98RP, 95ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape is one of the two or three candidates for the wine of the vintage. An extraordinarily great wine, the 2006 is far superior to the 2005, which was amazing, and while made in a different style, is as great as the 2003, and such legends as 1990 and 1978. Fashioned from a minuscule 21 hectoliters per hectare, and tipping the scales at 15.2% natural alcohol, the 2006 boasts a dense ruby/purple color to the rim, in addition to an extraordinary bouquet of melted licorice, spring flowers, raspberries, black currants, spice box, and earth. In the mouth, it is utterly profound – full-bodied and multidimensional with astonishing purity, length, equilibrium, and intensity. This is a superb vintage for the Avrils, and Vincent deserves huge accolades for producing a wine of such incredible intensity and complexity. Think of Clos des Papes as a Chateaune

1989 Chateau de Fonsalette "Réserve" Côtes-du-Rhône
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1989 Chateau de Fonsalette "Réserve" Côtes-du-Rhône (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1989 Fonsalette Cotes du Rhone is a beautifully made, seductive mouthful of wine. It is all velvet and silk, and there is a whopping degree of alcohol in the finish. Along with the huge 1990, it appears to be the finest Fonsalette since the late 1970s. The tannin is soft and the acidity is low, yet the wine's concentration and magical flavors (over-ripe, jammy cherries, truffles, grilled meats, and thyme) are dazzling. It is richer and more intense than any wine I have tasted from this estate, and reveals earthy, stone-laced, black cherry, and blackberry flavors. Usually Montrachet is a monumental wine yet this is more of a welter weight as it's sleekly muscular yet it packs plenty of punch and power plus simply huge length. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Branon, Pessac-Léognan (OWC - 97RP, (93-94JS), 94WS, 93ST) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Once again in 2010, notes of mocha, espresso roast, chocolate, creme de cassis and scorched earth soar from this opaque purple-colored wine. It is aged in 100% new oak, but that is hardly noticeable given the wine’s sensational richness and extravagant fruit. This wine is classic, full-bodied and intense. It’s just a shame that less than 8,000 bottles are usually made. This wine is still backward, but very full, rich, and impressively pure in texture. Give it another 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 20+ years. From a small but fabulous jewel of a property owned by the Garcin family, sandwiched between Malartic Lagraviere and Haut-Bailly, this blend of 50% Merlot and the rest equal parts Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon is absolutely sensational. 1969 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1969 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A healthy, medium to dark garnet color with considerable rust and brown at the edge is typical of a 26-year old, high class red Burgundy. A pungent, smoked duck, Asian spice, sweet, red and black fruit, caramel-like bouquet explodes from the glass. If there is ever a wine that can be said to reek of terroir, it is this 1969. From one of the more structured vintages in the last 25 years (let's hope the finest 1993s turn out this well), this fully mature, medium to full-bodied La Tache still retains some tannin. It is beautifully sweet, expansive, and rich, with complex aromatics... It is a terrific La Tache that proves that in some instances, great red Burgundy can last for 25+ years." (08/1995)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for the -wine of the vintage,- the 2008 Haut-Bailly possesses incredible complexity. Tell-tale notes of lead pencil shavings, charcoal, damp earth, black cherries and black currants intermixed with a hint of subtle barbecue smoke are present in this classic, quintessential Graves. Medium-bodied with an emerging, precocious complexity, it is a super-pure, beautifully textured, long wine that can be drunk now or cellared for 20-25 years. Bravo!" (05/2011)

Of the 2003 Angélus, St-Emilion,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "One of the great successes in St. Emilion in 2003, this wine has actually gotten better over the last eleven years. Pushing perfection, this blend of 57% Cabernet Franc (the highest ever at Angelus) and 43% Merlot boasts a dense purple color as well as a sublime set of aromatics, including forest floor, blue, red and black fruits, charcoal and hints of licorice and wood spice. Long, opulent, voluptuously textured and incredibly youthful and fresh, this full-bodied, tour de force in winemaking is an absolute legend in the making. It is an incredible accomplishment for a Right Bank 2003. Kudos to Hubert de Bouard for his vision as well as his perfectionist personality.

1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (95RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is "great stuff," with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild." (02/1998)

Full-bodied, with fabulous richness, texture and tremendous freshness, this first-growth-like effort is more developed than the uber-powerful 2010. Bid on this bottle of 2010 Bosquet des Papes "À la Gloire de Mon Grand-Père" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98RP, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A 100% Grenache cuvee from the Gardiole lieu-dit is the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape a la Gloire de Mon Grandpere. With 43 separate parcels spread throughout the appellation, the Boiron family can pick and choose the best, but it must be a strategic nightmare to manage all these different parcels. This 2010 (500 cases produced) includes 50% stems and is aged entirely in demi-muids. Close to perfection, it is the finest example of this cuvee I have tasted since its debut in 1998. Bid on this bottle of 2009 Mas de Boislauzon "Cuvee de Quet" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96RP, 94WS, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet (80% tank-aged Grenache and 20% small barrel-aged Mourvedre from 60-year-old vines) is spectacular. Its dense purple color is accompanied by an exquisite bouquet of boysenberries, mulberries, blueberries and other wild mountain blue and black fruits. Possessing great intensity, a full-bodied mouthfeel and superb purity, it is a singular expression of old vine Grenache blended with Mourvedre. The finish lasts for 50+ seconds, and the wine has a skyscraper-like texture as well as a multidimensional set of aromatics and flavors. This brilliant offering is more evolved and forward than either the 2007 or 2010. (RP)"

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne (100W&S, 99JS, 98WE, 96CG, 96RP, 92WS, 91ST). Wine & Spirits: "If a wine could ever make you want to pull the top down on your '68 Ferrari convertible, rip off the rearview mirror and take off, this is it. It has a different kind of energy than the '02 Cristal Rosé, which is more ethereal, like strawberries at the right hand of some ancient Gallic god. This is more insolent, brash, earth bound. All the scents and flavors seem to emanate from limestone, as does the acidity, which hits at the front of the mouth and powers through the wine with the kind of solar energy that lifts mist off the white chalk on a cool morning in Cramant. The wine goes on for miles. It's already irresistable, and will only improve with ten, 20, 30 and 40 years of age."

The penetrating fragrance of cedar, chestnuts, minerals, and rich fruit is a hallmark of this wine. Powerful, dense, rich, and tannic, as well as medium to full-bodied, with awesome extraction of fruit, this Lafite has immense potential. (Bordeaux Book, 3rd Edition)" (01/1998)

1990 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Margaux, Margaux (100RP, 98ST, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I had this wine both in Seoul, Korea in February, and from my cellar in December, 2008, and it was remarkable how identical the wines smelled and tasted. It offers an extraordinary aromatic display of spring flowers, camphor, sweet red and black fruits, a hint of licorice, and no evidence of its 100% new oak cask aging. Round and generous with low acidity, but an opulent, full-bodied richness that is fresh with laser-like precision, this stunning wine is just beginning to reach its plateau of full maturity, where it should remain for another three decades. 2002 Dom Pérignon Brut Rosé Champagne
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Dom Pérignon Brut Rosé Champagne (98RP, 95ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Unfortunately there is only one new release from Dom Perignon on the market, but what a wine it is! The 2002 Brut Rose explodes from the glass with endless layers of huge, voluptuous fruit, A big, full-bodied wine, the 2002 is probably the most overly vinous, intense Rose ever made by long-time Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy. Layers of cool, insistent minerality balance the fruit beautifully on the crystalline, vivid finish. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The sexy, dark ruby/purple-tinged 2006 l’Evangile achieved 14% natural alcohol, as high as any of the great vintages at this estate. Abundant amounts of dark raspberry and black cherry fruit intertwined with sweet plums and hints of figs as well as spring flowers jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, fleshy, supple-textured, silky wine. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the finest over-achieving efforts in this vintage as well as a 'best buy' for a top-flight St.-Julien, this 2008 is an irresistible success. It reveals an opaque ruby/purple color, lots of unctuosity and a boatload of sweet cassis and black cherry fruit intertwined with notions of licorice, smoke and oak. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru "Les Preuses" (OWC - 94BH, (93-94RP), 92ST, 90WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fevre owns or controls nearly one quarter of the acreage in Preuses. Their 2006 Chablis Preuses marries fruit from a southeast-facing parcel just above the Cote de Bouguerots and conducive to 'cool' fruit and overt minerality, with a southwest-facing parcel inherently inclined toward richness that was harvested at hugely high ripeness even before this year’s ban de vendange. From its aroma through its impressively dense and expansive palate display, through its lingering finish, this sensually extravagant expression of Preuses (in a manner distinctly reminiscent of Vincent Dauvissat’s) is totally suffused with the savory salinity and sweetness of shrimp and lobster shell reduction. White peach and lime occupy a discreet position, iris and lily a more prominent one, wafting alluringly throughout. This silken-textured

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru "Champans" ((91-93BH), (91-93RP), (90-93ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Volnay Champans presents a deeper, richer and more powerful expression of fruit than the Mitans. It was also made with 100% destemmed fruit. Here the aromas and flavors are on the darker side of red, but it is more the wine’s muscle and textural plushness that distinguishes it. Sweet spices, red berries and licorice wrap around the plush finish. This is another great effort." (02/2012)

1970 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1970 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the 'First Growth' lunch in London. Nice clear colour. The bouquet definitely has more vigour then previous bottles encountered, with sandalwood, cigar box and cedar to the fore. Not a complex nose, but nicely defined and unashamedly 'classic' in style. The palate is medium-bodied and well-balanced, good level of ripeness, elegant; harmonious but aloof. The second half is conservative but still fresh with just a touch of piquancy right on the finish. This Lafite is not going to go anywhere, but this shows that good bottles can still be pleasurable. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Nuits St. Georges Clos des Forets St.-Georges is a gorgeous wine. Here the freshness of the vintage plays off the warmth of the site nicely. The 2008 is naturally less extroverted than the 2009 tasted alongside it, but the wine nevertheless impresses for its cool, mineral-laced fruit and fabulous length. Outstanding!* Like the Taillepieds, this is also highly perfumed with rose petal, fresh red berries, wet stone and an earthy component that can also be found on the equally mineral-inflected, cool and pure flavors that evidence excellent detail and real verve on the delicious, intense and persistent finish. Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2011 Sociando-Mallet, Haut-Médoc (OWC - 91RP, 90JS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Whether it is due to the vintage or to Gautreau, the ferocity of the tannins in many 2011 Medocs seems relatively tame, but there is no lacking concentration in this wine, which is clearly of classified growth quality. It boasts a dense purple color along with abundant notes of creme de cassis, crushed rocks and spring flowers. Medium-bodied and super-rich, it is a real revelation in a vintage such as 2011. Given its precociousness and silky tannins, it can be drunk in 2-3 years, or cellared for two decades. (RP)" (04/2014)

This has really come together since I last saw it and like the Bougros, this is quite a bit more refined than I'm used to seeing. An excellent example." (10/2011)

The rich, delicious and charming flavors display good power and focus on the balanced, concentrated and palate staining finish. It reveals a dense purple color as well as an abundance of black cherry, black currant and blackberry fruit intermixed with licorice, incense and a touch of camphor. This is an explosive wine that finishes bone dry and manages to combine impressive power with balance and focus. Dense plum/purple-colored with a soaring bouquet of blue and black fruits, unsmoked cigar tobacco, lead pencil shavings and spring flowers, it is a suave, savory, medium to full-bodied, remarkably silky, appealing wine to enjoy over the next 12-15 years. There is an excellent sense of underlying tension to the cool, well-detailed and delicious mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess outstanding complexity on the bone dry, crisp and linear finish. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Corton-Clos du Roi is a bit massive and closed in on itself. It is clearly holding back considerable potential at this stage. With time in the glass, the fruit gradually begins to emerge. The Clos du Roi looks to be one of the more sumptuous 2008s, once the tannins soften a touch. Bid on this magnum of 2000 Pierre Usseglio "Mon Aieul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L) (95RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The profound 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul (85% Grenache and the rest equal parts Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault) tips the scales at 15% alcohol. From an old vineyard and cropped at 15 hectoliters per hectare, and aged only in foudre, it boasts a dense purple color in addition to an exquisite nose of violets, minerals, blueberries and blackberries. 1976 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (3L)
Bid on this 3L-bottle lot of 1976 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (3L). From Robert Parker…'Mouton-Rothschild can often be the most dramatic and flamboyant wine of the Medoc. The heavy reliance on Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) with tiny quantities of Merlot (8%) and Cabernet Franc (7%) in the 185-acre vineyard tends to produce powerful, nearly opaque purple wines that taste remarkably well young but close up quickly, with the wine's tannin dominating the fruit for 10-15 or more years.' Bid on this bottle of 2010 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (100RP, 99WS, 98ST, 98WE, 97JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As for the 2010 Haut-Brion, it does not have the power of Latour’s 2010 or the intense lead pencil shavings and chocolaty component of Lafite-Rothschild, but it is extraordinary, perfect wine. It has a slightly lower pH than the 2009 (3.7 versus the 2009's 3.8), and even higher alcohol than the 2009 (14.6%). The wine is ethereal. From its dense purple color to its incredibly subtle but striking aromatics that build incrementally, offering up a spectacular smorgasbord of aromas ranging from charcoal and camphor to black currant and blueberry liqueur and spring flowers, this wine’s finesse, elegant yet noble power and authority come through in a compelling fashion. It is full-bodied, but that’s only apparent in the aftertaste, as the wine seems to float across the palate with remarkable sweetness, harmony, and the integration of all its component parts – alcohol, tannin,

Its candied red cherry, sassafras and cola scents lead to a medium-bodied core of cassis, blackberries, spices, and cherries galore. Silky-textured, deep, and holding much in reserve, this concentrated, elegant wine also displays an exceptionally long finish. Projected maturity: 2008-2020. Bravo!" (08/2004)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Tortochot Chambertin Grand Cru (95BH). This is gorgeously, indeed almost painfully intense with explosive power to the austere and driving finish. This does a slow but inexorable build from the mid-palate and despite all of the muscle, this is actually a wine of balance and refinement. Most impressive." (01/2012)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Lucien le Moine Corton-Renardes Grand Cru ((90-93BH), (92-93RP), (91-93ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The twin barrels of Le Moine 2008 Corton Renardes are even more tender in texture than their Bressandes sibling, as well as sweeter in their still-tart fruit (here strawberry, cherry, and rhubarb). Brown spices, browned butter, and hints of caramel make for an appealing cookie dough-like aspect on this wine’s subtly creamy and palpably dense yet buoyant palate. Nor are herbal or floral nuances entirely neglected in the complex performance. A smoky, Latakia-like note graces this wine’s long finish. I suspect 12-15 years will prove a sufficiently conservative estimate of its potential. (DS)" (06/2010)

Lovely deep, dark fruit shadings with subtle chalkiness and fresh, raw meatiness along with persistent inner-mouth florality inform a firmly but finely tannic and expansive palate. 1990 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (96RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As one might expect, this is a brilliant wine, but it remains shockingly young, even for the fast evolving 1990s. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by a classic, nearly restrained set of aromatics that includes notions of sweet black cherries, black currants, lead pencil, and wet stones. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, and while technically low in acidity, there is a freshness, delineation, and classicism in this full-throttle, rich, concentrated, impeccable 1990. While still youthful, it is easy to appreciate despite its substantial tannins. It is not quite as backward as the 1990 Lafite Rothschild or 1990 Latour. Anticipated maturity: now-2035. 1986 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Margaux, Margaux (98AG, 98RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A magnificent example of Chateau Margaux and one of the most tannic, backward Margauxs of the last 50 years, the 1986 continues to evolve at a glacial pace. The color is still a dense ruby/purple with just a hint of lightening at the rim. With several hours of aeration, the aromatics become striking, with notes of smoke, toast, creme de cassis, mineral, and white flowers. Very full-bodied, with high but sweet tannin, great purity, and a very masculine, full-bodied style, this wine should prove nearly immortal in terms of its aging potential. It is beginning to budge from its infantile stage and approach adolescence. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2050. Last tasted, 12/02. (RP)" (01/2003)
