2009 Francis Ford Coppola "Archimedes" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon (Elsewhere $70)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This flashy Cabernet is one of Coppola’s best Sonoma County Cabernets ever, a fine followup to the great 2007. It immediately impresses with richness, smoothness of texture and complexity, offering waves of ripe summer blackberry, blueberry and smoke. The tannins are firm, dusty and soft, making the wine drinkable now and over the next six years with steak." (12/2012)91 points Wine & Spirits: "Corey Beck blends this from estate fruit along with other lots from Alexander and Knights valleys, creating a supple, currant-scented cabernet. The structure is quiet and harmonious, the tann ...Read More »

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "An elegant mixture of 74% Pinot Noir and 26% Chardonnay, this classic Brut is aged four years en triage and was last disgorged on July 18, 2014. The dosage includes the winery’s Thomas Road Pinot Noir. Golden in color, it is inviting in complex layers of baked apple, pear, honey and graham cracker while offering a light, sophisticated feel on the palate." (12/2014) K&L Notes: Just released. 2009 Foggy Bridge San Francisco Bay Zinfandel (Elsewhere $32)

Wine Enthusiast: "Daryl Groom is making these wines from Livermore Valley vineyards mostly and the wine is no doubt big in every way-15.6% alcohol with big tannins and big black, spicy fruit flavors hiding in there at first. It definitely needs time to open. And a giant, slathered-in-sauce kind of steak or other red meat." (11/2011)

2009 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Spectator: "Shows off a spice, dill and cedary oak quality, met by ripe currant, smoke, wild berry and cigar box notes. Ends with firm, ripe tannins that give the flavors grip." (10/2014) K&L Notes: The latest vintage of one of America's most beloved Cabs, Silver Oak's 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon officially releases on Saturday, February 1, 2014. 2009 Cobb "Joy Road" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Cobb "Joy Road" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (93RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Joy Road Vineyard comes across as a bit tight and unyielding today as the acidity and tannins are both quite dominant at this stage. Firm tannins frame dark red/blue-hued fruit in this linear, structured Pinot. The 2009 needs time to fully come together. This is an unusually pointed, chiseled Pinot for the vintage. Accordingly, it needs time to flesh out in bottle. There is a lot to admire in this nuanced, vibrant Pinot, but patience is the key. Ross Cobb used 10% whole clusters here. The 2009 is the last Joy Road. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025." (04/2013)

2009 Woodenhead "Guido Venturi Vineyard" Mendocino County Zinfandel (Elsewhere $38)

Wine Enthusiast: "Woodenhead does Pinot Noir well, too, but here it shows its skill with Zinfandel, producing a structured, peppery and leathery version bright in briary blackberry and plum. With fierce minerality at its core, this is a distinctive Zin for those who prefer their wines savory and earthy." (8/2013) K&L Notes: Mendocino County is possibly the most overlooked source for Zinfandel in California, with long-established vineyards which deliver substantial and structured expressions. The Venturi family has owned this vineyard site since 1924 which sits just west of the Redwood... Read More »

2009 Neal Family Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2009 is just getting going, according to the winery's latest notes: "After some extended bottle aging, we still find the same aromatic and flavor characters that we had used as descriptors early in the life of this wine. There is wonderful intensity but now a much richer mouth-feel thanks to a softening of tannins. Aromas of spice, dark fruit, mocha and tobacco accompanying the classic Cabernet cassis character. 2009 Mayacamas Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon

Originally built in 1889, Mayacamas is one of the Napa Valley’s oldest wineries. A long road winds up Mount Veeder to the historic stone winery and its estate vineyards, located at elevations between 1,800 and 2,400 feet above sea level. Previously owned by the family (from 1968 to 2013), the winery has been known for making lean, balanced, long-aging wines. Many vintages need a decade or more of cellaring to really find their greatness. Full and dense but wonderfully balanced with firm and silky tannins and a persistent finish. Dusty texture. A wine so balanced that you want to drink it already. Better in 2017." (10/2012)97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Dominus saw about 40% new oak compared to the 20% for Napanook. Fresh, incisive and floral on the palate, offering blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that coat the palate and pick up a subtle, refreshingly bitter orange marmalade quality. The intensely flavorful wines from Rutherford's Trailside Vineyard have been part of the Heitz range since 1989. The vineyard is flanked by the Silverado Trail on one side and Conn Creek on the other and is certified organic. The 100% stems come through in the wine’s aromatic profile and high-toned finish. This is a terrific introduction to the house style and a fabulous effort at this level. (11/2013) K&L Notes: This is the flagship wine from the Kathryn Kennedy seven acre estate vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where the combination of soil type, aspect, and modern organic viticultural techniques results in a profound and ageworthy expression of terroir-driven, Bordeaux-styled California Cabernet vintage after vintage. This is the least expensive Pinot in this lineup but it offers terrific balance, and shows no ill effects whatsoever of being tasted among the vineyard-designate bottlings. 2009 Dehlinger "Altamont Vineyard" Russian River Valley Syrah

93 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2009 Syrah Altamont is another classy wine. The 2009 is the first Syrah Estate to carry the Altamont vineyard designation, although previous years have also been made from this site." (2/2012)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky purple. A heady bouquet evokes dark berry preserves, incense, Indian spices and candied violet, with ...Read More »

2009 Hundred Acre "Precious" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Precious is rich, textured and quite pretty. Dark plums, cherries, menthol and spices are layered into this attractive medium-bodied wine. Firm tannins support a textured, inviting finish laced with tar, smoke and licorice. Deceptively medium in body, the 2009 fleshes out beautifully with time in the glass, turning quite powerful and intense. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (AG)" (12/2012)94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full, deep red. Elegant, floral aromas of raspberry, loam and cola. Then surprisingly tight on the palate, with ripe acids framing an ...Read More »
