2010 Amici Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2010 Amici Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This classic Napa Cabernet (with a splash of Petit Verdot) is elegant, streamlined and absolutely lovely to drink now. It’s dry and balanced in acidity and tannins, and has rich layers of cassis, mocha, plums and toast." (2/2014)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/plum/purple-tinged 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa offers notes of cassis, blueberries, graphite and toasty vanillin. A nicely proportioned, medium to full-bodied, seriously endowed, elegant, restrained wine with admirable purity, it can be drunk now or cellared for 10-15 years." Drink now through 2028." (4/2015) K&L Notes: The 2010 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. 2010 Keenan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $48.00)

92 points Wine & Spirits: "Tarry and austere on the surface, this is packed with purple berry fruit and purple plum richness. Dusty tannins keep the fruit’s generosity in check, finishing tight and coal-black. Built to cellar, this wine’s earthiness will develop complexity with age." (6/2014)91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is laced with an exciting melange of black cherries, incense, tobacco, mocha, graphite and dried flowers. 2010 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour" Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices, licorice and graphite all burst from the glass as the 2010 shows off its personality. While some of Beaulieu's 2010s are ripe and flashy, the Georges de Latour is wonderfully fresh and alive in the glass, not to mention absolutely classic in feel. Graphite, violets and pencil shavings linger on the close. The 2010 has captured every bit of the potential I sensed last year." Rich and decadent, this deep ruby Cabernet Sauvignon displays gorgeous aromas of ripe blackberries and black cherries with notes of fresh mint, cocoa, vanilla and nutmeg. Grown on Paradigm's Oakville estate, Paradigm has been made by Heidi Peterson Barrett since its first vintage in 1991. The simple approach of winemaking for Paradigm allows the Oakville terroir to express itself without heavy-handed intervention. From the winery: "The 2010 is dark blackberry jam in color with wide open aromas of berry, dark cherry, plum, coffee and spice. 2010 "II" by Alpha Omega Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

From the producer: "II is the culmination of the two worlds, the Alpha and the Omega, the Old World and the New World. Our two winemakers, Jean Hoefliger and Michel Rolland, worked to create a wine that is not only opulent, fruit forward and generous, but also has the backbone of European acidity and elegance. A reflection of both worlds. II is a wine that is built to be approachable, both in taste and price, and consumed early."

This harkens back to the great Clos du Vals of the 1970s." (5/2014)91 points Wine Enthusiast: "From 100% estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown in the heart of the Stags Leap District, this earthy red offers black tea and coffee aromas and flavors, suggestions of wild sage and black pepper enveloping the nose. Full-bodied and tightly knit, but trying to burst open, this beautifully pure, well-crafted Cabernet should hit its prime in 3-4 years and last for two decades. It is another brilliant effort from a winery that has dramatically improved its quality from good to world-class." 2010 Quintessa Rutherford Bordeaux Blend

95 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Three stars* Striking in its impressions of winemaking polish right from the start with a fine fit of lively, very deep fruit and sympathetic sweet oak, the 2010 Quintessa hits all the right varietal marks and earns an extra tip of the hat for its altogether impeccable sense of balance. It is so refined and tasty, in fact, that we can see how it will surely tempt early drinking, but, like all top-level Cabernet Sauvignons, it will show much more with age, and we urge that it be allowed to rest for no fewer than six to eight years." 2010 Robert Sinskey "POV" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

Robert Sinskey's POV is a Bordeaux-style blend from Los Carneros, on the southerly reach of Napa Valley, by the San Pablo portion of the San Francisco Bay--better known for Pinot Noir. For the style that he's going for, Sinskey can make it work: "Each year provides new parameters that are ultimately reflected in the character of the wine. RSV has learned over more than thirty years of wine growing that the Carneros has more in common with the Right Bank of Bordeaux than with the rest of Napa Valley. RSV’s CCOF certified vineyards are ideal for the three ... Read More »

This kind of "discussion" is still going on in wine country: varietal wines, or blends? Some thirty years ago, the Duckhorns chose to focus on varietals, but this blend of mainly estate-grown Cab and Merlot, with a bit of Petit Verdot in tow, represents the winemaker's best lots of the vintage.

In basic terms, Cain "Five" is just that: the estate's top blend of Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The exact percentages of each are listed on the label, but that, as winemaker Chris Howell will tell you, does not explain anything. While it may seem like everybody talks a big game about their terroir, a lot of wineries are playing the point-score game, too, with heavily extracted wines from late-harvested grapes--a scene that Cain has quietly excused itself from--although James Suckling found his ... 94 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is immediate, juicy and expressive in this vintage. At the same time, it seems pretty clear that the 2010 needs at least a few more years in bottle. Today, it is a bit disjointed as it is neither primary, nor showing too many tertiary notes or complexity. Sweet tobacco, leather, licorice, menthol and spices emerge over time, but the 2010 is a wine built for the cellar. There is plenty of density, but it needs time to emerge." The prodigious aromatics are followed by a precise, rich, pure blast of inky black currant, blueberry and mulberry flavors. The oak is virtually undetectable, and the wine, for all its power, richness and depth, is incredibly light on its feet and ethereal. It should drink well for 3 to 4 decades. Although you won't see much critical acclaim for Cain wines, since this remote, mountain winery stopped sending out for review in the early 2000s, the previously released 2009 Cain Concept caught the attention of critic James Suckling, who gave it 95 points and an enthusiastic review: "A generous, sexy wine with an abundance of subtle red fruits and mushrooms." Gently spiced notes appear on the finish, adding dimensions of complexity and nuance. Today the 2010 is a bit closed in on itself and a touch compact, while the aromatics aren't quite as precise as they could be. I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted at Conn Valley this year. 2010 Trefethen Oak Knoll District Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Enthusiast: "This is a big, full-bodied wine. It's massive in blackberries, plums and currants, with some dried herb notes along with lots of sweet oak. The tannins are very strong, and the finish is astringent. It's clearly well-grown, but tough. Age it for up to five years, but it doesn't have the richness for the long haul." (9/2013) K&L Notes: The Trefethens are long-time Napa locals, since the 1960s, anyway, but their renown is international: Recently, they were awarded the International Award of Excellence in Sustainable Winegrowing by BRIT, the botanical research institute... 2010 Paul Hobbs "Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Paul Hobbs "Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97JS, 96RP, 95ST). James Suckling: "This has a very spicy, dried-fruit character with blackberries and blueberries. Full body with chewy, powerful tannins. Gravelly and intense. Big and powerful. Try in four or five years. I love the contrast in this wine. Smells so ripe and intense. Crazy wine."

2010 Araujo "Altagracia" Estate Napa Valley Red
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Araujo "Altagracia" Estate Napa Valley Red (96RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Altagracia is surprisingly huge in this vintage. Layers of exotic black fruit, spices, mocha and espresso burst onto the palate with striking depth, power and richness. There is an immediacy to the 2010 that is simply compelling. No longer a true second wine, Altagracia now also includes a small amount of purchased fruit and is being crafted to stand on its own. The 2010 achieves that, and so much more. It is a fabulous effort from the team at Araujo. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025+." (12/2012)

2010 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Pre-Arrival)

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Insignia is striking. Cool, mineral notes frame a core of blue and black fruit, licorice, spices, smoke, and melted road tar as this stunning wine opens up in the glass. Totally alive in the glass, the 2010 captures the essence of this cold, late harvest. Hints of menthol, violets and crushed rocks all flow through to the incisive, vibrant finish. My sense is that the 2010 is still holding back much of its significant potential. The 2010 is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot and 2% Malbec. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2030.
