2012 Luca Malbec Uco Valley Top Pick!
2012 Luca Malbec Uco Valley

93 points Wine Spectator: "#19 Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2014!! Very suave and polished, with ripe, pure flavors of blackberry, hoisin sauce and black pepper. Finely textured, this is packed with tar and roasted plum notes, showing plenty of licorice snap and dark chocolate accents on the powerful finish. Best after 2020." (2/2014)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Malbec comes from old vineyards in La Consulta and a dash from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley. It has a mineral-like, austere feeling, with notes of peach, sour cherries, and sweet spices, a medium-bodied palate with gripping tannins, and ...Read More »

2014 Valentin Bianchi "Elsa Bianchi" Malbec Mendoza

The Elsa Malbec comes from Valentin Bianchi's Doña Elsa estate in the cool reaches of San Rafael, Mendoza. With just a kiss of French oak, the rich fruit dominates this easy-drinking red, which has barely-there tannins. Invoke your inner-Argentine and drink this alongside grilled flank steak with a garlicky chimichurri. Many previous vintages recommended by Wine Enthusiast as a "Best Buy."

2013 Antucura Cabernet Sauvignon Vista Flores Top Pick!
2013 Antucura Cabernet Sauvignon Vista Flores

95 points Decanter: "Gorgeously refined, almost French in style. Typical Vista Flores notes of violets, lavender, tobacco and black pepper on the nose. The palate is medium to full-bodied with very fine-grained, classy tannins. Fruit characters on the palate are more dried fruit than lush and primary. Lovely age-worthy Cabernet." (12/2014) K&L Notes: Antucura has proven themselves quite adept at producing purely fruited reds (both Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon) that express their Vista Flores origins, as well as a deft touch in the cellar. Their wines are expressive, extraordinarily supp... Read More »

2013 Pascual Toso Malbec Maipú Top Pick!
2013 Pascual Toso Malbec Maipú

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good dark red. Musky aromas of redcurrant, cherry, coffee, plum and cedar, plus hints of game and leather. Supple and on the soft side, with good texture and a hint of rusticity to the broad plum and leather flavors; more red fruits than black. Finishes with a touch of sweetness and easygoing tannins." (3/2014) K&L Notes: Maipú is located in the historic, sun-drenched winegrowing region just southeast of the city of Mendoza.

2012 Bodegas Sur de los Andes Malbec Reserva Mendoza

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas of blackberry, balsam wood, lemony oak and forest floor lead into a fully stocked, hefty palate. Flavors of black fruits, licorice, herbs and oak finish bright but level. What this lacks in complexity is made up for in ripe berry flavors and overall balance." (7/2014) K&L Notes: This is a beautiful Malbec from a very strong vintage in 2012. Fruit is sourced from vineyards located in the villages of Agrelo and Las Compuertas, in the Lujan de Cuyo district, the classic zone for high quality, older vine fruit, as well as from the Uco Valley.

2011 Bodegas Norton "Privada" Mendoza Top Pick!
2011 Bodegas Norton "Privada" Mendoza

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "#45 Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Wines of 2014!! As per usual, Privada displays qualities beyond its price point. This version of Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon is smoky on the nose, with charcoal, minerals and toast capping crusty berry aromas. The palate is super ripe and healthy in feel, with baked blackberry flavors smothered in toasty oak and chocolate. Warmth, coffee and Port notes drive the finish. Drink through 2018." 2013 Bodegas Colomé Torrontes Valle Calchaquí Salta

Brisk, tactile and quite dry but with an essentially supple texture--even a slightly glyceral character--to the flavors of grapefruit pith, lemon, flowers, spices and salty minerality. This serious yet seductive example of Torrontes finishes with sneaky dusty persistence." (7/2014)91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Sexy aromas of blackberry, huckleberry, violet, mocha and nutty oak. Suaver and sweeter than the Signature Cabernet, with juicy, fruit-driven black plum, blackberry and violet flavors framed by harmonious acidity. 2012 Tinto Negro Malbec Uco Valley

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Malbec Uco Valley is a 4,000-case cuvee aged nine months in French oak, of which 10% was new. A beautiful, full-bodied, seriously endowed Malbec, it possesses a dense purple color along with a sweet bouquet of blueberry and black raspberry fruit interwoven with camphor, licorice and spring flowers as well as a touch of oak. This wonderfully endowed, full-bodied, classic Argentina Malbec should drink nicely for 5-6 years. Drink now through 2020" (2/2014)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Jubilo is a Bordeaux-styled blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon from Vista Flores and La Consulta. Wonderful length and refinement. About one-third new wood. Fabulous. Drink or hold." (6/2014) K&L Notes: While they also produce an entry-level bottling as well as an elite high-end bottling, it is this flagship estate wine that represents the soul of Bodega Mendel. 2009 Bodega Weinert "Carrascal" Red Lujan de Cuyo

This is perhaps the most traditionally made red wine in Argentina. It's awesome, I love it, our staff loves it, and I suspect many of you looking for something different from Argentina might love it as well. A blend of 45% Malbec, 35% Merlot and 20% Cabernet, this is a savory, dark cherry fruited wine, with an excellent sense of individuality and style. Interestingly, the cab and merlot seem to stand out much more so than the Malbec in this year's bottling. No fireworks, just a great young Malbec. Drink now-2017. I had the chance to taste the wines of Carmelo Patti with his importer in Madrid and also visited his small winery in Mendoza. 2013 Dos Minas Torrontes Cafayate

As Sauvignon Blanc is to New Zealand, Torrentes is to Argentina. This fun, kicky label is no mass-market brand. It's a very small production project from the northern Cafayate region, idea for growing crisp white wines like this. Importer Michael Skurnik tells the story: "The dos minas ("two chicks" in Argentine slang) of the name are Lucía Romero, who runs Bodega El Porvenir de los Andes in Cafayate, Argentina, and Heather Willens, who came to Buenos Aires via California and has experience working with small wineries in Argentina. Atamisque is the first property you will see upon entering the Uco Valley from the north. Run by Loire Valley native, Jean Edward, who was instrumental in establishing Chandon's Argentine operations in the 1970's, Atamisque is making a very good range of wines from their own vineyards. This Malbec comes from 80 year old vines growing on two separate vineyards in the Uco Valley. Rich, chewy, complex and dry, showing an almost oily texture to the flavors of yellow peach, pineapple, pear and anise lifted by flowers. Offers a terrific combination of chewy texture and inner-mouth energy. Finishes sappy, saline and long, with excellent grip. This has the umami texture to complement sushi and sashimi. This bottling is consistently excellent--and a top value." (3/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Crios Torrontes comes from Cafayate in Salta and Altamira in Uco Va ...Read More »

2011 Catena Zapata "White Stones - Adrianna Vineyard" Chardonnay Mendoza

Too early for reviews, but this bottling scored 94 to 95 points in Wine Advocate from vintages 2009 and 2010. The wine is then fermented in French oak barrels at low temperatures to preserve the aromatics. A little over two-thirds of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Stolen Horse Old Vine Malbec is from the five hectare 'Stolen Horse Vineyard' populated by vines planted in the 1920s. Where does the name come from? When Santiago was looking for a vineyard, he instantly knew that this had to be the one. He tried negotiating a lease with the owner; however, it was not possible because someone had stolen the owner’s horse that was being used to farm these old vines. There is a short fermentation (7 days) but it resulted in a very dark-colored, ripe wine with aromas of blackberries, a touch of red fruit, and hints of smoke and spices. It is quite intense. Tannat has proven itself in the very high elevation, extremely sunny and dry conditions of Cafayate and Salta. This wine is all sweet red and dark fruits, with noticeable chewy oak adding spicy notes as well. For tannat, which has the reputation of being dark, brooding, ferociously tannic, this is actually relatively tame, full in flavor but not an all out tannic assault on the gums!
