French Wine

When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its regions, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and occasionally as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a 100 lives. To understand and appreciate French wine, you only need to begin tasting them. Check out some of the top picks that our buyers have tracked down - several of these wines are imported directly from France.

2005 Domaine Michel Colin-Deleger Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "En Remilly"
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Michel Colin-Deleger Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "En Remilly" ((89-91ST)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: " Subtle aromas of lemon, hay and mint. Round, fat and sweet; in a distinctly fuller style than the 2005 version from Bruno. Silky but not heavy, thanks to nicely integrated acidity. The lingering finish shows subtle citrus and floral elements. An excellent showing (ST)." (07/2006)

2002 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Chambertin Grand Cru. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full medium red. Deep, brooding aromas of strawberry, leather, smoky oak and underbrush. Solid but sullen today; comes across as almost chunky following the Clos de Vougeot and Grands-Echezeaux. A bit disjointed today, owing to its edgy acidity and dusty tannins. This wine's elements will need time to harmonize. (ST)" (05/2005)

Wine Spectator: " *Top 100 Wines of 2005* Shows fine density, even a slight astringency. Ripe apple and peach flavors are rich and persistent, with vanilla and mineral notes emerging on the finish. Wine Spectator: " *Collectibles* I love the purity of fruit in this wine, with perfectly ripe blackberry, blueberry and raspberry on the nose. Complex and full-bodied, with hints of new oak and wonderfully polished tannins that caress the palate. Long, long finish. This is not the blockbuster it was from barrel, but rather a complete, balanced and gorgeous red. Best after 2015. (JS)" (06/2008)

Wine Spectator: "*** Collectibles *** A smooth, creamy texture sets the pace for the peach, baked apple and spice flavors in this intensely flavored, integrated white. The bracing acidity emerges midpalate, and the finish belies this wine's rich beginnings. Shows fine potential, with all the components set for a long evolution. Best from 2019 through 2035. 30 cases imported. (BS)" (07/2015)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Huët "Le Clos de Bourg" 1er Trie Vouvray Moelleux (95ST, 94WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light golden amber. Exotic bouquet blends passion fruit, mango, poached pear, honey and chamomile with a lash of baking spices. Sappy, palate-coating orchard fruit flavors are given a bitter edge by a hint of citrus pith. Very rich but surprisingly taut, finishing strong thrust and lingering spiciness. This is a beautiful interpretation of late-harvest chenin blanc from a classic vintage (JBP)." (12/2014)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes" ((94-95RP), (92-95ST), 94BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Lafon’s 2002 Meursault Charmes is exceptional. Its awesome aromatics display spiced oak, peach, apricot, and yellow plum scents. Medium to full-bodied, decadent, and expansive, this intense, decadent wine bursts on the palate with silky, powerful waves of spices and yellow fruits. Even though it has massive richness and a broad-shouldered, muscular character, this beauty also displays graceful elegance. (PR)" (02/2004)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Knockout musky, soil-driven aromas of lime, chicken broth and crushed stone. At once dense and penetrating, with elegant but seriously intense flavors of lime, lemon, powdered stone and mint. Wonderfully light on its feet for a wine with this degree of power and thrust. Great building aftertaste shows superb density and cut. 96+ (ST)" (09/2004)

It has weight, complexity and richness, all under the cloak of botrytis. To leaven the power, there is acidity, but this is certainly for aging. (RV)" (06/2010)

1986 Talbot, St-Julien
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Talbot, St-Julien (96RP, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A fabulous wine, and one of the two greatest Talbots of the last 50 years, this wine still has a very murky garnet/plum/purple color and a spectacular nose of sweet creme de cassis intermixed with freshly ground pepper, melted road tar, herbes de Provence, and beef blood. It is followed by an enormously concentrated wine of full body, layers of concentration and sweet tannin. The wine seems to be just hitting its plateau of maturity, where it should last for at least 10-15 more years. A prodigious Talbot. Anticipated maturity: Now-2020. (RP)" (01/2003)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, the oldest vines planted back in 1929, has a crisp, slightly leafy bouquet with a light marine influence developing in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannins, crisp acidity and plenty of dark berry fruit toward the piquant finish. Don't overlook this offering from Jean-Marie Fourrier, because it ranks easily alongside his Premier Crus. (NM)" (12/2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Just another perfect wine (ho hum), the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Le Clos du Caillou is an incredible effort that matches the 2010 in terms of quality, yet has a larger-than-life, richer and more over- the-top style. Loaded to the gills with sweet black cherry, cassis, licorice, lavender, roasted meats and creamy licorice, it hits the palate with a massive, full-bodied profile that carries awesome fruit, building, sweet tannin, incredible depth and blockbuster length. Bid on this 3 -magnum lot of 2007 DRC Domaine de la Romanée Conti La Tache Grand Cru (1.5L) (OWC - 96RP, 96ST, 95BH, 95WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 La Tache amply illustrates why this monopole is the darling among most of those lucky enough to regularly taste or collect the wines of the Domaine de La Romanee-Conti. Hints of mocha, vanilla, maraschino, and almond paste lend a confectionary note to generously rich cassis and raspberry, while Latakia tobacco, peat, clove, black pepper, star anise, and cumin contribute commune-typical Vosne-Romanee personality in spades. The high-toned, sweet themes continue inner mouth, with intimation of heliotrope, rowan, and lily perfume, while the wine’s smoky, spicy elements seem to descend into a low-register undertone of roasted red meats and forest floor. Bid on this bottle of 2012 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru "Perrieres" ((92-95BH), 94WS, 93RP, 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*** Don't Miss - Outstanding! *** Moderate reduction is enough to suppress the fruit. By contrast there is excellent freshness and the same borderline painful intensity on the chiseled and strongly mineral-driven medium weight flavors that culminate in an equally restrained and tightly coiled finish. This knockout effort has that 'wow' factor as it really stains the palate on the hugely long backend. Highly recommended." (06/2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Clos de la Roche Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is round, sweet and totally enveloping. It is a huge, towering Burgundy that impresses for its gorgeous inner perfume and juicy, exuberant fruit. This shows tons of richness without being heavy or overripe in any way. Anticipated maturity: 2029-2049. (AG) " (05/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (100JS, 100RP, 99VN, 99WS, 98ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-black colour. An incredible array of aromas on the nose: blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, espresso, leather, black olive and loam. The palate is absolutely seamless from first impression to finish, effortlessly building layers of complexity in the mouth and leading to a very long, earth and spice finish. I can’t see how this could possibly be improvement so have no alternative but concede perfection. Drink now to 2045+. Tasted March 2009. (LPB)" (05/2009)

Bid on this bottle of 2002 J.-F. Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru ((95-97RP), 96BH, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Caramel-coated apples, melons, and white flowers are exhibited in the nose of the intense 2002 Corton-Charlemagne. Medium-bodied, plush, and pure, its flavor profile is reminiscent of golden raisins, quartz, minerals and spices. This is a complex, exceptionally ripe wine with superb balance, depth, and length. 1999 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux (94BH, 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " (with thanks to Andy Goodman). A still relatively bright, spicy and fresh red berry fruit nose that displays only a trace of secondary influence is trimmed in just enough wood to notice and introduces very ripe yet beautifully elegant and detailed middle weight flavors that culminate in a highly persistent and mouth coating finish. This mineral-inflected beauty is very much still on the way up and should reward another 5 to 7 years of cellar time and as such I would advise patience. Consistent notes. Try from 2019+" (09/2014)

1969 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1969 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux Grand Cru (94RP, 90BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a gorgeous mature DRC that surpassed my expectations. Obviously a mature hue, mahogany core with a light tawny rim. The nose is simply sublime, decayed red-berried fruit, overripe Satsuma in nan’s glass vase, hints of rose petals and strawberry. With time it evolves more 'irony' scents that add another dimension. The palate is medium-bodied, beautifully balanced with fresh acidity, very focused and wonderful 'transparency'. Hints of sour cherry and bergamot towards the finish that lacks the length I suspect Grands Echezeaux would be endowed with. Drink now-2010+ Tasted March 2009. (NM-Wine Journal)" (07/2009)

Bid on this bottle of 1937 Clos Des Lambrays Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Bricked completely through to the center. A beautifully complex and sous bois and VA-infused nose leads to the flavors have turned somewhat candied with quite a bit of finishing structure though there is enough mid-palate fat and length remaining for this to be an interesting wine. Tasted five times with consistent notes. I would be inclined to drink this sooner than later as its best days are clearly behind it though there is no danger of it falling apart." (10/2013)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A strikingly elegant if more restrained and more complex nose is comprised of airy and cool red and blue pinot fruit, spice and floral elements. There is a really lovely texture to the mouth coating and utterly delicious medium weight flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the bright, clean and distinctly saline-inflected finish. The intense flavors however are big, rich and sleekly muscled with a reserve of power that is impressive, underpinned by suave and dusty tannins that coat the mouth. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An overtly sauvage nose features game-inflected aromas of dark berries, plum, floral and earth nuances that also exhibit a hint of smoke. Somewhat unusually, this is also quite finely detailed and while this is openly powerful, it's not at all rustic or tough though it is exceptionally tight and backward at present on the impeccably well-balanced finish. This is even more restrained than the Rugiens and like its stable mate, it's pointless to acquire this without the express intension of forgetting it in your cellar. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Romanée" (92RP, 92VN, 91BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru la Romanée is broody and much more taciturn than the Caillerets, which is typical according to Céline. There are limestone scents here, touches of wet granite. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry and then it fans out with lightly honeyed citrus fruit. It remains focused, feels long and tender in the mouth, though perhaps the Caillerets just has the edge apropos complexity. Whatever, you still would not kick this out of bed in the morning. It is also one of the most generous wines in the range. Dark plum, violet, black cherry, mint, licorice and clove notes all burst from the glass. Even with all of its richness, the 2011 has plenty of supporting structure. Although the Clos Sorbe is striking today, it also clearly has the potential to age. This is a fabulous showing from Fourrier. (AG)" (03/2014)

Knockout nose of blackberry, black raspberry, roasted plum, smoke, mocha and underbrush. Concentrated, sweet and penetrating, with a powerful underlying structure currently dominating the wine's dark berry and wild herb flavors. Finishes with big but ripe tannins and superb persistence. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (94BH, 94RP, 92ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Corton-Charlemagne comes across as super-classic in its chiseled fruit. Today the 2008 is holding back much of its potential, but there is plenty of energy and vitality in its focused, wiry frame. Lemon peel, lime and flowers are some of the notes that linger on the finish. Ideally the 2008 needs another year or two in bottle (and perhaps more) to show the full breadth of its personality. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru "Porusots" ((90-93BH), 93RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Porusots from Domaine des Comtes-Lafon has a very succinct and subtle bouquet, beautifully defined, backwards and introspective but I think there is huge potential here. The palate is clean, fresh and poised, a hint of sour lemon on the entry but thereafter it becomes cohesive and focused with hints of white chocolate furnished the long, persistent finish. This is another excellent 2012 from Dominique Lafon. (NM)" (10/2015)

1999 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (93RP, 92ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep plum, currant, and mineral notes emerge from the concentrated, beautifully balanced, pure 1999 Haut Brion. It seems to be cut from the same mold as years such as 1979 and 1985. There is a hint of graphite in the abundant fruit. The wine is medium to full-bodied, nuanced, subtle, deep, and provocatively elegant. It is made in a style that only Haut Brion appears capable of achieving. Knockout nose combines dark berries, violets, spices and smoked meat. A '98 of remarkable sweetness and depth. Huge but broad tannins are completely buffered by the wine's sheer concentration. Resounding, utterly fresh finish. This comes across as more accessible today than the Mazis or Griottes due to its sheer volume and sweetness, but it should age well for two decades. 95+ (ST)" (04/2001)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Raveneau's 2006 Chablis Butteaux signals exotic ripeness from the first whiff of pear drops and lychee. Lush, rich fruit follows on the palate, but with chalk, iodine, and wood smoke adding counterpoint and pulling one's attention toward the particularly strong mineral dimension that is inherent in this site. 2007 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2007 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (1.5L) (94BH, 93ST, 92RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A barely perceptible touch of SO2 does not overtly mar the airy, ultra fresh and impressively refined nose of white flower, citrus, green apple and wet stone and it is this pungent minerality that is really on display with the intense, detailed and tight big-bodied and well-muscled flavors that positively brim with a distinct salinity that is more in keeping with a classic Chablis than a classic Corton-Charlemagne. Still, this is a brilliant effort by any measure and the finish is like a vinous bomb. In sum, this is a dramatic but balanced wine that should age well for many years to come. " (06/2009)

1988 Camus Père et Fils Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1988 Camus Père et Fils Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru. Camus is an underrated domaine with good grand cru holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. It's existed, more or less, since 1732, but mostly after the phylloxera epidemic, when Joseph Camus purchased abandoned vineyards. The wines are not filtered, so you'll often find sediment, but this ensures that every iota of flavor from the grape makes it into the final wine. "The prices at this domaine are down-right reasonable," according to the Burgundy Report. "Tasted at the domaine as a ‘family,’ each wine is interesting and follows the hierarchy – there’s a clear difference between cuvées – both good things. Subtly complex I would happily drink any of them. Throw in a few reference wines and the picture begins to change: these are old-school wines, for sure, and even the younger wines have little to do with bright or overt fruit. They seem quite clean and offer nice aromatics and a good finish."

1988 Pierre Bourée Mazys-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1988 Pierre Bourée Mazys-Chambertin Grand Cru. Burgundy Report: "In a world that now panders to point-chasers, and where the requirement is for young wines to be instantly friendly and easy to appreciate, the Bourées are something of an anachronism - that’s not an uncomplimentary remark, rather it is a comment to their style and their retention of a very ‘traditional’ outlook - or as they would prefer to say ‘authentic’. Although headquartered in Gevrey where they have an extensive warren of cellars, the Bourées have their main winery in Chambolle. This is a reasonably large operation that mixes domaine owned vines with grapes and (occasionally) must sourced from other growers. Their cellars can and do accommodate up to 500 barrels per vintage." (08/2006)

1989 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1989 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (98JS, 96WS, 90RP). James Suckling: "Freshly picked blackberries turn into minty dark chocolate and oozing caramel with domineering eucalyptus on the nose. It becomes yet more complex on the palate thanks to layers upon layers of spices and sage plus fat and rounded tannins. There's a long finish with a bitter aftertaste, suggesting this could do with another 10 years or more of bottle aging. This is a Mouton I found massive at the time, then elegant and slightly austere years later, but today true to its former glory. Like the amazing 1947, it should not be forgotten." (06/2016)

Dark cherries, plums, wild berries, spices and licorice are woven together beautifully in this highly expressive, singular wine. A cool vein of minerality is a common thread as the wine continues to take shape in the glass. There is a beguiling, mysterious quality to the finish I find highly attractive. It has a convincing, elegant bouquet that at this early juncture bears semblances to the 2008, but ramps up the intensity without compensating on delineation, with subtle notes of spice and balsam coming through. Bid on this bottle of 1962 d'Yquem, Sauternes (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an excellent, even outstanding Yquem, but I must admit to being less impressed with it than others who have ecstatically called it one of the greatest Yquems produced. It is rich and honeyed, with a spicy, oaky, tropical fruit aroma, rich butterscotch, toasted fruit, and caramel flavors, and an astringent, dry, slightly coarse finish that, for me, keeps it from getting higher marks. This expansive wine is silky, rich, very generously flavored, long, and full bodied on the palate. It is fully mature, but there is little chance of this wine falling apart for at least another decade. I have high hopes that the 1982, 1983, and 1986 will ultimately surpass this vintage of Margaux. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Still tasting as if it were only 7-8 years of age, the dense, garnet/purple-colored 1986 Gruaud-Larose is evolving at a glacier pace. The wine still has mammoth structure, tremendous reserves of fruit and concentration, and a finish that lasts close to a minute. The wine is massive, very impressively constituted, with still some mouth-searing tannin to shed. Decanting of one to two hours in advance seems to soften it a bit, but this is a wine that seems to be almost immortal in terms of its longevity. 1996 Krug Brut Champagne
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1996 Krug Brut Champagne (100W&S, 99ST, 99WS, 98VN, 97RP). Wine & Spirits: "It's hard to imagine how a wine of this power can sustain perfect balance. What is now a more nonchalant intensity in the aroma was, in fact, too much to handle when we tasted this last year, as if the wine had no time for mere humans with their limited sense receptors. If you stop to taste ripe pear, ginger spice, apple blossom and butterscotch the wine leaves you lost in random flavor descriptors as it soars off into a vinous glow that lasts for minutes. This may well be the greatest vintage wine of Henri Krug's career (unless it is challenged by the 2002). It is impossible to predict how long this wine will thrive in bottle, though considering the current fine condition of the 1959 Krug, the first 50 years are a given." (12/2008)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2003 Pierre Usseglio "Mon Aïeul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98RP, 95WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The best bottle of this I've had (and I've had plenty), Usseglio's 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul is a blockbuster and one of the true stars of this vintage. Almost all Grenache (there's a small part of Syrah and Cinsault) that was harvest between September 1-13, partially destemmed and aged in both tank and foudre, this massive, voluptuous effort is almost overflowing with notes of ground herbs, chocolate dusted meats, black fruits and licorice. Showing none of the negative traits of the vintage, with beautiful purity and freshness, sweet tannin, and a great finish...(JD)" (09/2015)

2000 Pavie Decesse, St-Émilion
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2000 Pavie Decesse, St-Émilion (96RP, 94WS, 93ST, 90WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Gerard Perse's 2000 Pavie Decesse, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a vineyard situated above Pavie, on the steep limestone hillsides outside the walled town of St.-Emilion, is a fabulous effort (all the Perse wines are stunning in this vintage). Notes of camphor, creme de cassis, violets, black currants, cedar, and licorice jump from the glass of this inky/purple-hued offering. Monumental richness, sensational sweet tannin, a skyscraper-like mid-palate, and a 45+-second finish result in an extraordinary wine that is just reaching its plateau of full maturity. It should last for another 20-25 years. (RP)" (06/2010)

2005 Maison Nicolas Potel Romanée St-Vivant Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Maison Nicolas Potel Romanée St-Vivant Grand Cru ((97-98RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Potel 2005 Romanee-St.-Vivant displays absolutely riveting richness and complexity from stem to stern. Roasted meats, soy-like savor and pure essence of elderberry, black raspberry and plum are wreathed in iris and lilies, scented with clove and star anise, and tinged with citrus zest. This saturates and stains the palate, yet in the silkiest, most subtle, tender way while leaving behind a profound sense of minerals. “Lush” and “luscious” gain new meaning. The wine’s sensuality and elegance keeps one from focusing on its sheer density but that too is formidable. Surely this will be worth cellaring for 15-20 years. (DS)" (06/2007)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chênes" (94BH, 94ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(tasted from a 375-ml. bottle): Healthy dark red. Knockout nose offers musky, wild red berries, truffle and dried flowers, plus a balsamic nuance. Voluminous, tactile and deep; wonderfully generous and full, with the sweetness of fruit to give great pleasure right now. The very long finish features big but fine-grained tannins. This is remarkably fresh considering the bottle format; in fact, Michel Lafarge noted that the same wine from 750s was still closed. (I'm guessing that the regular bottles will go on for at least another 15 to 20 years.) (ST)" (02/2016)

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Jean Tardy et Fils Echézeaux Grand Cru "Les Treux" Vieilles Vignes (93BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Generous but not dominant wood influence frames the red berry and black raspberry liqueur nose that is followed by earthy, intense and chewy full-bodied flavors that are textured, concentrated and mouth coating, particularly on the robust and very firm finish that offers excellent length. This is a big wine of impressive dimensions if not necessarily much finesse as it's built like a linebacker and will require commensurate time. Drink: 2017+" (01/2008)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion (96RP, 92ST, 92WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Extremely young with an unbelievable deep purple color, the 2000 Troplong Mondot has hardly budged since I tasted it in 2003. Two recent tastings confirmed that this is the greatest Troplong Mondot between their profound 1990 and more recent vintages such as 2005, 2008, and 2009. Copious chocolate, graphite, blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and ink characteristics are present in this full-bodied, powerful, massive St.-Emilion. While the tannins are noticeable, they are better integrated than they were seven years ago, and the fruit, extract, and richness clearly outweigh the wine’s structure. This 2000 will benefit from another 4-5 years of cellaring (longer than I originally predicted), and has at least two decades of drinkability ahead of it. (RP)" (06/2010)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (96RP, 94BH, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru offers an enticing array of marine scents on the nose: cockle shells and estuarine aromas. Give it a couple more minutes and watch those lovely grilled walnut scents flourish and multiply so that is ends up almost Meursault Perrieres in character. The palate makes an immediate impression on the entry with that subtle nutty theme continuing, partnered with racy acidity, superb concentration and a long, tense finish that is energetic and surfeit with mineralite, flint popping up on the finish. I quite like the sense of refinement as this is at once classy and pure. The 1964 Figeac, here tasted from magnum, is a fabulous Saint Emilion at the peak of its powers. The bouquet is even more extravagant than the 1966 with ebullient red fruit, vanilla, black truffle and peppermint, all with quite astonishing delineation. The palate is fresh and vital, underpinned by captivating tension, hints of blood orange, maraschino cherry and cedar noted on the long and poised, unashamedly sensual finish. It has a noticeable deep hue. The nose is unashamedly rustic with mulberry, crushed flowers, wild heather and a touch of chlorophyll. Great definition and vibrancy: a wine wallowing in its secondary aromas. The palate has fine definition and demonstrated much more backbone than the Cheval ’78 tasted alongside. Here, the Merlot is undaunted by the Cabernet Franc and lends it a beguiling fleshiness, especially towards the ferrous finish. This is wonderful, that is a point. (NM)" (09/2011)

This still delivers unusually strong minerality for Bienvenues as well as fine detail, outstanding complexity and persistence. For my tastes, this is just now beginning to drink well and it should continue to do so for another decade. The 1988 offers the most refined aromatic profile and the tightest structure. All three wines share opulent, full-bodied, exotic, lavishly rich personalities, moderate sweetness (the 1990 is the sweetest), and huge quantities of extract, glycerin, and alcohol in their finishes. 1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (3L)
Bid on this 3 liter 1-bottle lot of 1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (3L) (96WS, 95RP, 95ST). Wine Spectator: "Delivers so much blackberry, leather and dried fruits on the nose. Full-bodied, with ultrapolished tannins and a silky mouthfeel. The palate turns to leaves, cedar and dried berries on the finish, which goes on and on. This is still reserved for the vintage, suggesting a long life ahead. Just coming around now, but will improve many years ahead. I have always loved this Lynch. (JS, Web-2010)"

Wild red fruits with hints of underbrush on the nose. At once broad and precise, with attractive sweetness to the raspberry and mineral flavors. Not a huge wine but nicely silky and mouthcoating; a stony quality frames and lifts the finish. (ST)" (01/2009)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Don't Miss!* Admirably cool and pure aromas of peach, pear and apricot are trimmed in subtle nuances of smoke, tea and white flowers. There is seriously good richness and volume to the full-bodied, powerful and palate coating flavors that brim with dry extract on the sappy and utterly delicious finish where the persistence just goes on and on. Despite the excellent concentration, there is absolutely no heaviness; indeed this embodies what I call power without weight." (06/2015)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Pavie, St-Emilion (OWC - 100RP, 96WS, 93ST) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Just beginning to come around and strut its enormous potential, this wine at age 15 has been evolving like a glacier. The wine has an inky, opaque, plum/purple color and a stunningly rich nose of mulberries, bramble berries, blackberries, licorice and incense as well as touches of toast and graphite. Fabulously concentrated and full-bodied, with a multidimensional mouthfeel, this profound Pavie is in mid-adolescence. It should evolve and continue to drink well for at least another 30-40 years. This is clearly the first compelling effort made by the Perse family. (RP)" (08/2015)

1970 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1970 Latour, Pauillac (96RP, 94JS, 91WS, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at dinner at Domaine de Chevalier. The Latour ’70 can be such a variable beast. This is certainly one of the better, more representative bottles. Deep garnet in colour, nice limpidity in the glass. It has a beautiful nose that to be honest, sweeps aside the respectable Domaine de Chevalier ’70 poured alongside, like a lord dismissing his servant with a swish of his hand. Graphite, wild black fruit, freshly rolled tobacco and a faint hint of truffle. The palate is medium-bodied and after forty years, still quite austere but the balance is nailed ... (NM)" (11/2010)

Unlike the 1971, which is close to peak maturity, this wine has a long way to go and is impressive, but not yet revealing all of its potential. Anticipated maturity: Now-2025. (RP)" (01/1998)

This drinks as though it was an 8 year old wine, rather than pushing 36. I would drink this now but this will continue to drink well for a long time to come though not necessarily improve. 2000 La Conseillante, Pomerol
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 La Conseillante, Pomerol (96RP, 95WS, (90-93ST), 92JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "La Conseillante made an excellent wine in 2001, another great one in 2005, and the estate hit home runs in both 2008 and, above all, in 2009. In fact, the latter vintage may well end up being the modern-day reference point for La Conseillante. Nevertheless, there’s a lot to be said for this 2000. An elegant, gentle style that is never a blockbuster, the 2000 La Conseillante has a deep ruby/plum/purple color and an unbelievably expressive nose of sweet kirsch liqueur intermixed with raspberries, incense, toast, and licorice. Full-bodied yet ethereal in the sense that it seems to combine power along with eloquence and delicacy, this is a beautifully pure wine that has just hit its plateau of full maturity, although ideally I think it would benefit strongly from another 4-5 years of bottle age and drink well for two to three decades. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Jadot’s most famous wine from the Cote de Beaune is its Beaune Clos des Ursules. The 2002 bursts from the glass with smoky, spicy black cherries. Ample, concentrated, and powerful, it coats the palate with waves of syrupy black cherries, blackberries, and strawberries. Lush, intense, and deep, this huge, medium to full-bodied wine also reveals an extended, harmonious, beautifully ripe finish. (PR)" (06/2004)

2005 Nicolas Potel Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Aux Echanges"
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2005 Nicolas Potel Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Aux Echanges" (91RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the 2.3 acre premier cru portion of an obscure and relatively low-elevation site that is the monopole of an investment consortium, Potel’s 2005 Chambolle-Musigny Aux Echanges is one of the few Potel wines that endured a protracted malo, finishing only in December after being transferred to tank. Aromas and flavors of salted cassis and blackberry, wood smoke, tea, narcissus, smoked meat and soy make a highly-concentrated and complex impression. The long finish here is dark and brooding in a vintage-typical way, meaty, smoky and black-fruited. This wine temporarily betrays its recent bottling following such a late malo. 91+ points. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine de Courcel Pommard 1er Cru "Rugiens" (94BH, (93-94RP), 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Courcel 2005 Pommard Rugiens comes from the chalkiest, upper portion of that great site (in fact, just below the domaine’s Vaumuriens). Everything about this wine just seems to be pulling together today – and in a promising direction. Mulberry, cassis, roasted meats, and black chocolate in the nose are joined by stimulatingly salty and soy-like savory notes on the palate. Full and rich but finely structured with incipient creaminess of texture, this displays impressive reach and grip and a seamless integration of fruit, meat, and mineral elements. (DS)" (07/2007)

The 1999 Corton-Charlemagne reveals lovely aromatic depth of minerals and spices. Medium-bodied, rich, and precise, this is a defined, pure, detailed wine filled with lemons, nuts, and pears. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Charred meat, black currant, and wet stone characterize the bouquet of Jadot’s 2005 Clos Vougeot. Savory, salty, brightly-fruited and invigoratingly juicy on the palate, this displays more energy and acidity than I would have expected from the appellation. For all of the clarity and juiciness of this wine’s fruit, grilled meat and stony earthiness combined with the emergence of formidable tannins and subtle but persistent cyanic and iodine notes to turn its formidably long finish somewhat austere. But this is going to result in an exciting rendition of its terroir if left in the dark for at least 6-8 years. (DS)" (06/2007)

1999 Palmer, Margaux (375ml)
Bid on this 3-half-bottle lot of 1999 Palmer, Margaux (375ml) (94RP, 92ST, 91JS, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Though I have tasted many vintages of Palmer in recent months, it has been some time since I tasted the 1999 Palmer. Now at 17 years of age, it has a really quite splendid bouquet that is so fresh and vital, pure brambly red fruit, sloes and iodine. It has certainly lost some of the headiness that it showed over its first 10 years, but it is still a Palmer that likes to party. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is good depth here, clean and fresh with wonderful poise. This is a "correct" Palmer, self-aware that it was not born in a propitious vintage, therefore it might seem a little restrained, even conservative in character. That would ignore its precision and grace, the manner in which it gently builds to the finish. You can drink this now but I would be inclined to give it another 3-4 years. There are few better Left Bank 1999s than Palmer. (NM)"

2010 Chimère (Sine Qua Non) Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L) (OWC)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2010 Chimère (Sine Qua Non) Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L) (OWC - 98RP, (93-95ST)) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another amazing offering is the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Chimere, a blend of 93% Mourvedre, 5% Grenache and the rest white varietals. Packaged in a distinctive Italian glass bottle, this inky/purple-colored 2010 exhibits notes of blueberries, charcoal, roasted herbs and scorched earth. The complex aromas are followed by a full-bodied, super intense, young, unevolved wine that was bottled April 26, 2012, but still resembles a barrel sample. As the wine sits in the glass, aromas of blueberries, licorice and graphite emerge. While the tannins are sweet, they are abundant. This remarkable effort came from one 300-liter foudre. Forget it for 4-5 years and drink it over the following 3 decades. By the way, it is about 16% natural alcohol so it is actually less powerful than the 2011. Kudos to Manfred Krankl, Pascal and Vincent Maurel, and

The nose is quintessential Coche - reduced with a touch of burnt matchstick, brilliant definition and enthralling intensity. 1986 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (100RP, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1986 possesses outstanding richness, a deep color, medium body, a graceful, harmonious texture, and superb length. The penetrating fragrance of cedar, chestnuts, minerals, and rich fruit is a hallmark of this wine. Powerful, dense, rich, and tannic, as well as medium to full-bodied, with awesome extraction of fruit, this Lafite has immense potential. Patience is required. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2030. 1952 Clos Des Lambrays Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1952 Clos Des Lambrays Morey St. Denis 1er Cru. In 2014, Neal Martin reported on a recent change at Clos des Lambrays: "The sale of the historic Clos des Lambrays last April to the LVMH luxury group sent shudders across the region, shudders that continue to reverberate. Does it portend a new chapter for Burgundy as multibillionaires start waving their checkbooks under the noses of what is in spiritual terms at least, a farming community? We will see. They’ll find much more resistance here than in acquiescent Bordeaux. What changes it will bring to Clos des Lambrays will be found out next year, but at least Thierry mentioned that he would be at the helm for at least the next three vintages. Sure, he’s in his mid-sixties now, but when I suggested that it might then be a time to retire, I got the impression that he has far more vintages in him than that."

1959 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1959 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (100JS, 100RP, 98WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I am always blown away by the 1959 Mouton, one of the greatest Moutons made in the last thirty-five years. Every time I have this wine it is undeniable that Mouton made a richer, more persuasive wine in 1959 than in 1961. Astonishingly young and unevolved, with a black/purple color, the wine exhibits a youthful nose of cassis, minerals, and new oak. It is exceptionally powerful and super-extracted, with the fruit supported by high levels of tannin and some lusty quantities of alcohol. This mammoth, full-bodied Mouton-Rothschild should continue to evolve for another 20-30 years. It may well be a 100-year wine! (RP)" (01/1998)

2002 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chênes"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chênes". Allen Meadows on the 2002 vintage: "Richard Fontaine has really ratcheted up quality since the 1999 vintage and as the scores and comments suggest, this may be the best set of wines he's ever made. He describes 2002 as a 'more masculine vintage than 2001 and while I believe that 2002 has much to offer, I actually prefer my 2001s because they're approachable now and I like the round character of the flavors highlighted by the racy underlying acidity. 2002 is certainly more classic however with excellent ripeness, in fact it was so ripe that we didn't have to chaptalize at all. For me, 2002 reminds me a lot of my 1985s and I suspect they will age similarly.' While I agree that there is much to admire about the Fontaine '01s (see Issue 11 for details), the '02s are simply phenomenal and well worth taking a close look at."

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots-Du-Miliieu" (93RP, 92ST, 91BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Volnay Santenot has a lovely open, generous bouquet with vibrant red fruit: redcurrant, freshly picked raspberry and wild hedgerow – perhaps just a touch of pine cone in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a rounded, succulent entry. It feels harmonious and luscious in the mouth, the tannins just beginning to soften after a decade in bottle. (NM)" (12/2013)

2005 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (97RP, 96WS, 95ST, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Possibly the youngest wine of all the 2005 Médocs in terms of its evolution, at age 10 the inky purple 2005 Pontet-Canet tastes more like a two-year-old wine. Loads of pure blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit are present along with a hint of licorice and background oak. It is full-bodied, ripe, and excruciatingly fresh, vigorous and exuberant. This is a tour de force, and a sensational effort that rivals the first growths. Give it another 5-10 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 30-40 years. 97+ points." (06/2015)

Of the 1979 Domaine Michel Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru "Les Rugiens-Bas",Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "Exactly in the fashion of most '79s today, here the highly scented nose expansively delivers notes of sous bois, earth and subtle spice and stone hints. Most '79s are relatively light but this is actually quite concentrated for the vintage with rich, delicious and mineral-suffused flavors that culminate in a naturally sweet and lingering finish where the only nit is the barest hint of dryness. Still, this is absolutely lovely and also unlike many '79s today, it's in no danger of falling apart. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A 2005 Volnay Santenots Vieilles Vignes offers high-toned aromas of cherry distillate and cherry pits, marrowy meatiness and imposing breadth on the palate, and a beautiful penetration of dark fruits, savory meatiness, and chalky, stony minerality in the finish. This displays considerable subtlety of flavor and a refined density of tannins that doesn’t weigh it down but suggests the right structure is present for at least twelve or fifteen years of fascinating development. Of the 2002 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Ducs",Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2002 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs has meliorated since I last tasted it back in 2010. Here, it has a really quite entrancing bouquet, that transparency intact but the fruit enhanced with time: strawberry and red currant, almost a "flinty" mineralité underneath. This is very attractive and seems to blossom in the glass. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Corton Grand Cru "Bressandes". From Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Corton Bressandes displays positively peachy, generically-ripe aromas (pushing 14% alcohol, which is the maximum here this vintage, eventually generating a faint bit of warmth) and with notes of cedar and a slightly funky gaminess behind that. It comes onto the palate with a certain roughness of tannin, though with persistently sweet fruit that takes on more Pinot-typical berry character and a broad, beefy richness. This big-boned, undeniably dense wine was only bottled for a week when I tasted which may account for some of its roughness and awkwardness, but I wonder also about the premature gaminess." 2005 Domaine Lucien Boillot Volnay 1er Cru "Les Caillerets"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Lucien Boillot Volnay 1er Cru "Les Caillerets" ((90-92RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Boillot’s 2005 Volnay Caillerets leads with ripe black currant and raw meat suggestions, saturating the palate with sweet, brash, dark-berry fruit, but quickly reveals a pithy concentration of stones and chalk beneath. Sleek and refined in texture, this unobtrusively harbors plenty of tannins for 8-10 years in the cellar. Faintly disembodied notes of caramel and resin betray the oak a bit, but these should integrate given this wine’s formidable raw fruit intensity. Layers of fruit, meat and chalk are tightly packed into a penetrating finish. (DS)" (04/2007)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Matrot 2006 Meursault Charmes smells and tastes of ripe white peaches drenched in honey and brown spices, with bitter grapefruit rind and lemon pip accents adding a pleasing contrast to the sense of sweetness engendered by high ripeness and glycerin. Creamy and enveloping, this is deeply rich and savory, harboring some real mystery, yet without obtrusive heat from its 14.8% alcohol. (DS)" (12/2008)

The nose is now almost completely secondary, indeed there is a hint of sous bois present along with plenty of earth influence. The rich, full-bodied and equally earthy flavors are still quite powerful and concentrated and while there is some of the typical '88 austerity present on the finish, there is also excellent complexity and real finishing verve." Of the 2005 Domaine Pascal Cotat "La Grande Côte" Sancerre Chavignol,Wine Spectator writes: "The subtle lemon verbena aroma belies the complexity of this wine, as a languidly rich palate delivers a broad swath of lemon curd, straw, yellow apple and chamomile notes that glide through the lengthy, well-defined finish. Almost sweet in feel, thanks to its ripeness, but a mouthwatering edge lingers underneath, bringing you back for more. (JM, Web-2008)"

Chewy and rich in extract but light on its feet, with a note of smoky reduction to its flavors of strawberry liqueur, mocha and spices. 1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (100JS, 100RP, 98ST, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine remains one of the legends of Bordeaux. It has thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed during its first 25 years of life, and over the last 4-5 years has developed such secondary nuances as cedar and spice box. The creme de cassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity, multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are a showcase for what this Chateau accomplished in 1982. The wine is still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears capable of remaining fruity and vibrant in 2082! Thank God it is beginning to budge, as I would like to drink most of my supply before I kick the bucket. This is a great, still youthful wine, and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux chateaux when you see the complexity and brilliance of this first-growth. (RP)" (06/2009)

Pungent, deep, ripe aromas of redcurrant, minerals and graphite. A sweet, plush Echezeaux with a sexy juicy quality to its complex flavors of redcurrant, red cherry, spices and tobacco. Fine-grained, minerally and cool in the middle palate. Ripe and rich but with a restrained sweetness. The tactile back end nicely combines thickness and energy. An Echezeaux of finesse. This is a seriously impressive effort and a legitimate candidate for the Charmes of the vintage; note however that patience will be required. 2008 Etienne Sauzet Montrachet Grand Cru (1.5L)
Bid on this 2-magnum lot of 2008 Etienne Sauzet Montrachet Grand Cru (1.5L) (96BH, 94ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Don't Miss!* (made from purchased must sourced from Domaine Thénard, whose vines are on the Chassagne side; aged in 67% new oak) The fresh and incredibly dense nose is inexpressive to the point of being almost mute and only aggressive swirling manages to coax glimpses of the floral, white and yellow orchard fruit, oak, spice and citrus suffused nose. By contrast, the gorgeously rich and massively-scaled flavors explode on the palate and in a distinct divergence from the Chevalier's finesse, this is a bulldozer of a wine. No, this is not especially elegant at present but it has enormous potential though note that ample patience will be required. Drink: 2020+" (06/2010)

2002 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne (100W&S, 99JS, 98WE, 96CG, 96VN, 92WS, 91ST). Wine & Spirits: "If a wine could ever make you want to pull the top down on your '68 Ferrari convertible, rip off the rearview mirror and take off, this is it. It has a different kind of energy than the '02 Cristal Rosé, which is more ethereal, like strawberries at the right hand of some ancient Gallic god. This is more insolent, brash, earth bound. All the scents and flavors seem to emanate from limestone, as does the acidity, which hits at the front of the mouth and powers through the wine with the kind of solar energy that lifts mist off the white chalk on a cool morning in Cramant. The wine goes on for miles. It's already irresistable, and will only improve with ten, 20, 30 and 40 years of age." (12/2009)

1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (96WS, 95RP, 95ST, 94JS).

Bid on this bottle of 1995 J.F. Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses" (91RP, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The ruby-colored Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses exhibits delightful aromas of wild strawberries and touches of underbrush as well as an extremely elegant, silky-textured, medium-to-full bodied personality jam-packed with lively cherries, violets, minerals and spices. This superb wine possesses plenty of ripe, round tannins for structure in its beautifully long finish. (PR)" (08/1997)

2008 Arnoux (Lachaux) Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Arnoux (Lachaux) Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru ((92-94BH), (90-92ST)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A trace of new wood sets off very fresh and elegant red berry fruit aromas cut with a distinct stoniness that give way to rich, refined and beautifully detailed medium weight flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration and impeccable balance. A classic Latricières that displays just a touch of finishing austerity as well as the definite sense of underlying reserve. A great first vintage." (01/2010)

2009 Pétrus, Pomerol
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Pétrus, Pomerol (100RP, (97-100ST), 99JS, (97-99WE), 99WS, 97VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An opulent Petrus very much in the stylistic family of the 1990, this 100% Merlot has a dense plum/purple color and a sweet nose of mulberries, black cherries, some subtle toast and licorice as well as a floral element. A wine of great intensity, a multidimensional mouthfeel and full-bodied, stunning concentration, the 2009 Petrus 2009 is everything one would expect of it. Given the sweetness of its tannin, much like the 1990, I suspect this wine will always be “open for business,” appealing even in its youth. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2050+. (RP)" (02/2012)

2011 Domaine Coche-Dury Meursault
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Domaine Coche-Dury Meursault (90ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale color. Orange peel and gingery spice on the nose. Juicy and dynamic, with ripe acidity contributing to the impression of inner-mouth tension. Finishes full and long but youthfully tight, with a lingering spiciness and firm structure. This may yet merit an even higher rating. (ST)" (09/2013)

2013 Fourrier Morey-St-Denis "Clos Sorbes" Vieille Vigne
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2013 Fourrier Morey-St-Denis "Clos Sorbes" Vieille Vigne ((89-91RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbe has an open and inviting bouquet with raspberry sorbet and orange blossom: real 'pinoté' here. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe tannins, good depth, not as complex as some of the other premier crus from Jean-Marie but with a velvety texture that will appeal to many. Very fine. Bid on this 2-magnum lot of 2002 Bernard Dugat-Py Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (1.5L) ((95-98RP), 94BH, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Reminiscent of liquid satin, the candied black fruit, rose, and spice-scented 2002 Charmes-Chambertin seduces with its mouth-coating, harmonious personality. Loads of dark cherries, blackberries, spices, and raspberries are found in this generous, awesomely ripe wine. 'Sweet, sweet, sweet' read my notes... Decadently powerful yet supple, and armed with great purity, it will be at its finest between 2007-2017. (PR)" (07/2004)

2009 Clos l'Eglise, Pomerol
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Clos l'Eglise, Pomerol (98RP, 95ST, 94WS, 92WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 is one of the sexiest wines in Pomerol in this vintage, offering up notes of melted caramel, sweet mocha, blackberry and black cherry fruit, with hints of loamy soil and unsmoked cigar tobacco as well as a touch of white chocolate and some subtle toasty oak. Round, opulent and unctuously textured, with a full-bodied mouthfeel, fabulous purity, and no hard edges, this sumptuous, fleshy, lavishly rich Pomerol can be drunk now and over the next 25 years. 2006 Domaine de Montille Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Malconsorts "Cuvée Christiane"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine de Montille Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Malconsorts "Cuvée Christiane" ((93-95RP), (91-94BH), 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As described in detail in issue 171 de Montille's 2006 Vosne-Romanee Les Malconsorts – Christianne comes from a share of that cru which is clearly visible on vineyard maps as if it had been cut-out from (or juts into) today's La Tache. With a more exotic, musky, and effusive floral perfume; similar plum and raspberry fruit and smokiness; and more palate-staining concentration than the corresponding "regular" Malconsorts, this also carries more structure and a more vivid if hard to pin down mineral dimension. The finish here is positively tidal in its expansiveness and relentlessness. Where the other bottling has more 2006-tyical virtues, this "Christianne" could easily be taken for a 2005. It will never give chase to its own 2005 counterpart, but it should prove immensely rewarding to follow for 12-15 years. (DS)" (1

2005 La Vieille Cure, Fronsac
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 La Vieille Cure, Fronsac (92RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In this vintage, this estate (one of the leading properties in Fronsac) produced an opaque/purple blend of 75% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon from vines averaging 25 years of age. Offering beautiful black cherry and black raspberry fruit, abundant chalk, minerality, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish, this over-achieving, full-throttle Fronsac is a brilliant example of the vintage and of this terroir. Give it another several years of bottle age, and drink it over the following 10-15 years. This sleeper of the vintage should prove to be one of the longest-lived vintages of Vieille Cure to date. Kudos to the ownership. (RP)" (06/2015)

2008 Domaine François Bertheau Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru (1.5L)
Bid on this 3-magnum lot of 2008 Domaine François Bertheau Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru (1.5L) (92BH, 90RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A slightly riper and terrifically layered nose of intensely earthy red berry fruit aromas that give way to rich, round and delicious medium-bodied flavors that are certainly more powerful though by the typical standards of a terres rouges-based Bonnes Mares, it's actually quite refined. Like the Amoureuses, this is an extremely elegant version of the appellation yet should repay up to seven to eight years of cellar time though it will be drinkable well before that." (01/2011)

1999 Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat Richebourg Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat Richebourg Grand Cru (95RP, 93BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Richebourg Grand Cru from Hudelot-Noëllat personifies the vineyard with some style. It has a stunning, pure, elegant and effortless nose that maybe expresses that essence of pinoté better than more than a dozen other Richebourg wines present at this tasting. Raspberry coulis, wild strawberry and cold stone soar from the glass with great focus. The palate is tensile, the red berry fruit laced with orange zest that lends vivacity and energy. To be banal, this is just a Richebourg so well crafted that you want to just drink it rather than intellectualize over its virtues. That's the sign of a great wine. (NM)" (11/2015)

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Fuées" (92BH, 90ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Outstanding* The altitude shows here as the expressive and ultra elegant nose of red berry fruit and violet aromas is noticeably cool, pure and refined, leading to detailed and understated flavors brimming with an intense minerality on the balanced, energetic and mouth coating finish that goes on and on. A wine of breed and class that is very Fuées in character." (01/2010)
