French Wine

When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its regions, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and occasionally as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a 100 lives. To understand and appreciate French wine, you only need to begin tasting them. Check out some of the top picks that our buyers have tracked down - several of these wines are imported directly from France.

High-pitched aromas of black cherry, licorice, pepper and flowers. Of the 2001 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (375ml),Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "A beautiful effort, the 2001 Cos d'Estournel (65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot) exhibits a poised, noble bouquet of black currants, cedar, spice box, and licorice. A hint of truffles emerges as it sits in the glass. Medium-bodied with sweet fruit (mostly black) and nicely integrated wood, it builds incrementally in the mouth, ending with a 50-second finish. Highly complex aromas of wild red berries, rose petal, mocha, clove and black pepper. Fat and lush but with a peppery component energizing the mid-palate. Impressively dense and fine-grained, with noble tannins for a Bonnes-Mares and outstanding length. This will evolve in bottle for a long time, but there's nothing hard about it even today. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate’s 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers is a cool, inward wine graced with exquisite finesse. Dark wild cherries, sage, rosemary and menthol are some of the nuances that come together in the glass. This is a relatively juicy 2008, but it will be even better in a few years’ time. 1989 Figeac, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1989 Figeac, St-Emilion (93RP, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property. In many ways, the 1989 Figeac was the biggest surprise of the vertical tasting. Hitherto lambasted by critics (including myself I might had), here it seemed to have undergone some Damascene conversion! Generous on the nose, it does not quite offer the fruit intensity of the 1990, but there are lovely warm gravel and licorice aromas, all beautifully detailed. The palate is silky smooth on the entry, sensual in style with Provençal herbs and fennel tincturing the mixture of smudged red and black fruit. From all accounts, it appears to have been a wine that shot out of the blocks with style, then ran out of steam for many years. Yet here, it is as if the 1989 has rediscovered that youthful promise, perchance at a point in time when many bottles have been popped and poured. (NM)" (08/2016)

2010 Belair-Monange, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Belair-Monange, St-Emilion (96RP, 95JS, 95WE, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely magnificent wine from Christian Moueix and his son Edouard, this wine is right up there with their 2009 and may eclipse it in terms of its potential longevity. Dense purple, with a near-liqueur of crushed rocks and chalk intermixed with blueberry, black raspberry and cassis, this wine is very full-bodied for a Belair, with ethereal complexity and impressive texture and length. I believe this is the first vintage of the wine to be released in an engraved bottle, which seems to be the direction of all the top estates in the Jean-Pierre Moueix stable. More evidence of concerned Bordelais attempting to stop criminals intent on producing fraudulent bottles of these limited production wines. Forget this baby for 7-8 years and then look for it to evolve over three decades-plus. (RP)" (02/2013)

Bid on this magnum lot of 2007 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe "La Crau" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L) (96RP, 95WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe may be the greatest wine made at this property since the 2005 and 1998. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with an exquisite nose of salty sea breezes, licorice, ground pepper, jammy black cherries, black currants, figs, and plums, this is a full-bodied, rich, Provencal-styled offering with lots of sweet, ripe tannin. It is surprisingly accessible for a Vieux Telegraphe (this wine normally shuts down several years after bottling), but it should have great longevity (25+ years) given its power, full-bodied mouthfeel, and enormous length and richness. This is a brilliant effort from brothers Frederic and Daniel Brunier. (RP)" (10/2009)

1998 Pavie, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 1998 Pavie, St-Emilion (95RP, 93JG, 92ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine still possesses a dense, youthful, plum/garnet color to the rim, with very little lightening. The first vintage for Pavie under Chantal and Gérard Perse, the 1998 is full-bodied, showing lots of cedar wood, forest floor, roasted herbs, black cherry and blackcurrant and new saddle leather. It is quite full-bodied, opulent and seems to be just entering its plateau of full maturity, where it should last another 15-20 years. (RP)" (08/2015)

This full-bodied classic boasts a dense purple color as well as a superb nose of graphite, creme de cassis, forest floor, licorice and a hint of truffles, low acidity, and extravagant richness. Most of the tannins have been resolved in this superstar of the vintage. It should continue to drink well for 10-15+ years. 95+ (RP)" (08/2014)

Of the 2009 Domaine de la Janasse "Chaupin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "One of my favorites was already the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Chaupin (which is always aged in foudres and 600-liter demi-muids, two-thirds in the former and one-third in the latter) and this wine has really put on richness and intensity since I tasted it last year. An absolutely magnificent wine, it scored a good four points higher this year, and it is unusual for me to vary that much from one tasting to the next. Tipping the scales at 15% natural alcohol, this dense purple wine has noble sweetness and an extraordinary concentration of lavender, black cherry liqueur, licorice, and minerality. 1989 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1989 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (98JS, 96WS, 90RP). James Suckling: "Freshly picked blackberries turn into minty dark chocolate and oozing caramel with domineering eucalyptus on the nose. It becomes yet more complex on the palate thanks to layers upon layers of spices and sage plus fat and rounded tannins. There's a long finish with a bitter aftertaste, suggesting this could do with another 10 years or more of bottle aging. This is a Mouton I found massive at the time, then elegant and slightly austere years later, but today true to its former glory. Like the amazing 1947, it should not be forgotten." (06/2016)

1953 La Mission Haut Brion, Pessac-Leognan
Bid on this bottle of 1953 La Mission Haut Brion, Pessac-Leognan (98RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Compared to other ’53 clarets recently tasted this has maintained reasonable vigour on the nose, gaining intensity with some gorgeous tarry, cigar box and chocolate scents that billow with time. Superb delineation and lift – you could inhale this all day. Medium-bodied on the palate, very good delineation with an almost ineffable sense of balance. Not quite as complex as say, Mouton ’53 on the finish but it is everything you could wish for in such a wine. A sense of completeness and natural harmony and femininity. Sublime. (NM)" (07/2008)

1998 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Margaux, Margaux (96W&S, 92ST, 91RP, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A deep garnet core with deep brick rim. The nose has moderate intensity, not the exuberance and exhilaration of the Haut-Brion, but expressive, with notes of blackberry, tar, a touch of leather and bilberry. What it does not have is Margaux's signature aroma of violets - this is more reserved and masculine. The palate is medium-bodied, quite peppery upon entry with good acidity and balance, yet missing the femininity and the finesse that marks out say the 1999 or the 2001. The finish is quite dry, perhaps a little dour compared to other Chateau Margaux. Tasted March 2008. (NM)" (3/2008)

This is one of the most exciting young reds I have tasted in a long, long time. It shows intense aromas of berries, currants and minerals, with hints of mint. Full-bodied and packed with fruit and tannins, its long finish is refined and silky. A benchmark for the vintage. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2002 Bollinger R.D. Extra Brut Champagne (99JS, 97W&S, 96VN, 96WS, 94BH). James Suckling: "Super fresh, this is striking given the 10 years in the cellars; it has a fine citrus nose - plenty of lemon, grapefruit, yellow chalky notes, some lighter floral elements too. The palate is super dry (dosage at 3-4g) and there's a silky, sherbet-like texture, smooth, fine and long. The citrus flavours give way to the driving surging acidity, thunderous acidity, really driving and powerful. The finish twists very slowly through to light-toasted cashew fruit flavours, but lemon citrus prevails. This is thrilling Champagne. Disgorged 22nd October, 2013. Drink from 2016. " (05/2014)

This shows marvelous tension and energy, not to mention fabulous overall balance. It could not be more different in style than the 2009 tasted alongside it. Both are fabulous, though. Prost indicated that there might be two wines released or they might be blended. The wine reviewed here is from Domaine fruit and was significantly better than the purchased example. A ripe, reserved and cool nose of flat out gorgeous complexity leads to beautifully delineated, powerful and robust flavors that somehow manage to remain understated on the hugely long and spicy finish. Jean-Marc told me that the clos tends to produce a more elegant wine than 'Boucheres' although there is different rootstock, so it probably a combination of those two factors. The 2012 has a slightly more herbaceous bouquet than the Porusot, with touches of nettle and Japanese mirin – introspective, bashful at first but growing in confidence in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a slight viscosity on the entry, a little more phenolic, with almond, hints of fennel and lemongrass. This is a totally absorbing and cerebral Meursault. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Raveneau Chablis "Valmur" Grand Cru ((93-96ST), 96VN, 95BH, 95RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale color. Subtle, reticent aromas of pear and stone. Densely packed and impressively intense; at once oilier and less exotic than the Blanchots. Very strong notes of wet and crushed stone along with a strong grapefruit piquancy. Voluminous and fine-grained grand cru. This is much less explosive today than the Blanchots but more harmonious and longer on the aftertaste. (ST)" (07/2011)

Complex and full-bodied, with hints of new oak and wonderfully polished tannins that caress the palate. Long, long finish. This is not the blockbuster it was from barrel, but rather a complete, balanced and gorgeous red. Best after 2015. (JS)" (06/2008)

2001 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac ((0-92RP), 91W&S, 90ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index’s 10-Year On horizontal. The first bottle of this was denuded of vitality and out of sorts (indeed this is a major problem with this vintage.) Not corked, but previous experience old me that it was not “happy” bottle. Fortunately I stayed for another to be opened and this far more representative. Ripe, dark berried fruits on the nose with touches of mulberry, briary, graphite and sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp entry, tarry black fruits on the entry, sharp acidity, very tight but that is probably because this bottle had just been opened. Very fine. (NM)" (05/2011)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*** Sweet Spot - Outstanding *** An earthy and mildly sauvage nose showcases a very ripe liqueur of cassis and black cherry aromatic profile that gives way to textured and densely concentrated medium weight plus flavors that exude dry extract on the moderately austere, powerful and mineral-driven finish. This should be excellent in time though note that patience is a key requisite." (01/2011)

Full-bodied, with fabulous richness, texture and tremendous freshness, this first-growth-like effort is more developed than the uber-powerful 2010. 1990 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Margaux, Margaux (100RP, 98ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I had this wine both in Seoul, Korea in February, and from my cellar in December, 2008, and it was remarkable how identical the wines smelled and tasted. It offers an extraordinary aromatic display of spring flowers, camphor, sweet red and black fruits, a hint of licorice, and no evidence of its 100% new oak cask aging. Round and generous with low acidity, but an opulent, full-bodied richness that is fresh with laser-like precision, this stunning wine is just beginning to reach its plateau of full maturity, where it should remain for another three decades. 1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (100JS, 100RP, 98ST, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine remains one of the legends of Bordeaux. It has thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed during its first 25 years of life, and over the last 4-5 years has developed such secondary nuances as cedar and spice box. The creme de cassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity, multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are a showcase for what this Chateau accomplished in 1982. The wine is still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears capable of remaining fruity and vibrant in 2082! Thank God it is beginning to budge, as I would like to drink most of my supply before I kick the bucket. This is a great, still youthful wine, and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux chateaux when you see the complexity and brilliance of this first-growth. (RP)" (06/2009)

2014 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanee-Conti Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2014 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanee-Conti Grand Cru (97RP, 97VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Romanée-Conti Grand Cru was picked on 19 September, cropped at 32.6 hectoliters per hectare and bottled on 25 and 26 April 2016. I remember tasting this from barrel, thinking how taciturn it was, before coaxing out those subtle tertiary aromas. Here it remains bashful once more, however, it soon begins to open and deliver the ethereal, mineral-infused red fruit. It is almost conservative compared to the more multi-faceted 2014 La Tâche. This is precise and detailed, not inclined to deliver aromatic "thrills" at such an early juncture. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, perfectly judged acidity, perhaps fuller in the mouth than the 2013 Romanée-Conti, with volume and grip towards the finish. Paradoxically, it is also a discrete wine, quite linear and maybe without the sustained persistence that elevates the La Tâche. You could sum up this

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2008 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots does not quite possess the same delineation and poise on the nose as the 2007, which comes as some surprise. Touches of cooked meat come through and later an attractive sea spray scent. The palate is medium-bodied with a rounded, savory entry. This is quite animally and gamy, the acidity nicely judged with a little chewiness toward the finish. Give this 2-3 more years in the cellar. Tasted June 2015. 93+ (NM)" (07/2015)

Elegant, deep, and silky-textured, this medium to full-bodied beauty is immensely concentrated, pure, packed with apple flavors, and astoundingly long in the finish. Expressive, superripe aromas of briary currant and blueberry, menthol and mocha. Wonderfully sweet and aromatic in the mouth, with highly concentrated, nearly candied flavors of blackberry pie and framboise Shows a surmuri aspect that reminded me of grenache, but a firm spine of acidity gives the wine freshness and grip. 1961 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (négociant bottling)
Bid on this bottle of 1961 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (négociant bottling) (95RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Still a spectacular wine, the 1961 defies mortality. It has been at its peak for nearly 15 years, yet it shows no signs of losing its fruit and drying out. The color is a dark garnet with orange/amber at the edge. The profound bouquet has the magnetic allure that leaves great Bordeaux unmatched for complexity. Sweet notes of dried fruits, herbs, tobacco, smoke, and roasted meats are followed by an opulently-textured, thick, nearly viscous wine with high glycerin, ripe, jammy fruit, and an intoxicating combination of glycerin, extract, and suppleness. The wine holds in the glass without cracking up, and has a good 40-45 second finish." (06/2000)

Full-bodied, offering amazing raspberry fruit in the core of the palate. Ultrapolished, velvety tannins wonderfully coat every inch of your palate. This will age for years ahead, but it's so lovely now. Much better than many people think. (JS, Web-2010)"

1983 Tempier "La Tourtine" Bandol (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 1983 Tempier "La Tourtine" Bandol (1.5L). One of the crown jewels of Provence, Domaine Tempier produces world-class red, white and rosé wines from their organically farmed Bandol estate. Wine Spectator: "Bandol's modern history began in 1941, when the late Lucien Peyraud of Domaine Tempier helped to gain Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée status for the region. The Peyraud family still owns Tempier, Bandol's best-known winery, and they routinely make outstanding reds, including two estate blends (cuvée especiale and cuvée classique) and three single-vineyard wines (La Miguoa, La Tourtine and Cabassou)." Bid on this magnum lot of 2010 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (1.5L) (96ST, 95BH, 94RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright pale yellow. Extremely closed nose hints at gunflint and menthol. Dense and pure on entry, then as powerful as a solid in the middle, with explosive lift to the flavors of white pepper, mint and dusty stone. Expands with air to fill the mouth without giving any impression of weight. Finishes with a convincing saline tang and outstanding persistence. This has the structure of a top red Burgundy: I'd forget about it for at least eight years. 96+ (ST)" (09/2012)

2010 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (96RP, 94BH, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru offers an enticing array of marine scents on the nose: cockle shells and estuarine aromas. Give it a couple more minutes and watch those lovely grilled walnut scents flourish and multiply so that is ends up almost Meursault Perrieres in character. The palate makes an immediate impression on the entry with that subtle nutty theme continuing, partnered with racy acidity, superb concentration and a long, tense finish that is energetic and surfeit with mineralite, flint popping up on the finish. So delicious you could broach a bottle now - but that would be depriving you of what will be in a decade's time! Drink 2016-2035. (AG)" (12/2013)

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (97RP, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Château Pichon Baron is just getting better and better and better. Perhaps the magnum format played its part, but nevertheless...just...wow. This is a millennial Left Bank with the keys to the top drawer. It has an incredibly precise, mineral-driven bouquet with intense black fruit infused with cedar and graphite scents. It just reeks of Pauillac in an almost uncompromising, yet compelling manner. The palate is structured, stylish and effortless, extraordinarily pure and unerringly youthful. This is a Pichon Baron saying, "You ain't seen nothing yet." You could broach this now if you wanted, but the clever people will wisely bunker this for another decade and gloat from 2025 onward. (NM)" (07/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Taittinger "Comtes de Champagne" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne (98JG, 98RP, 95VN, 94WE, 94WS, 93CG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Taittinger’s 2002 Brut Blanc de Blancs Comtes de Champagne is off the charts. I have tasted the 2002 now many times, and it has never been less than thrilling. A vivid kaleidoscope of pure Chardonnay aromas and flavors opens up in the glass. The 2002 is at once incredibly rich yet also totally weightless and impeccable in its balance. All the classic Comtes notes are there, but with a level of detail and nuance I don’t think I have ever seen before. The 2002 is breathtakingly beautiful today, but also appears to have the stuffing to age for decades. Personally, I would be looking to buy the 2002 in magnums if at all possible. Sadly, there is little wine to go around as 2002 was a very short crop. Readers who can track down the 2002 are in store for something truly great. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2042. (AG)" (11/2012)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Dominique Lafon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Champs Gains". Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gains shows a little reduction on the nose, albeit in an appealing manner, with endearing mineral scents developing with five to ten minutes in the glass. The palate is fresh and tensile, the acidity quite high and forming a very citric, rather sharp finish that needs to calm down, which I suspect it will if you can afford this four to five years in bottle. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: ""Aromas of limes, yellow citrus, crushed stones, herbs, chamomile and honey lead the 2012 Sancerre Edmond to a refreshingly mineral, profund and pure palate of great expression and a stimulating length with citrus flavors." This was my first note of the 2012 Sancerre Edmond, which is dedicated to Alphonse Mellot’s father Alphonse Edmond. The selection from the oldest (about 100 years old) Sauvignon Blanc grapes of the estate (on calcareous marl soils) is the purest and most precise expression of the kimmeridgian terroir because – and this is my finding of the second day – there is nothing more on the nose than ripe fruit aromas (nectarines again) based on and powdered with rock flour ... 2009 Billaud-Simon Chablis Grand Cru "Les Blanchots" Vieille Vignes
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Billaud-Simon Chablis Grand Cru "Les Blanchots" Vieille Vignes ((92-95BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Billaud is of the belief that Blanchot is the most mineral-dominated cru in Chablis, indeed so much so that it can be a brutal and violent wine that must be 'tamed' by the wood, hence the different vinification philosophy; the Billaud vines directly abut Les Clos). Billaud indicated that this would be bottled in late June or early July. A moderately toasty nose does not dominate the white flower, citrus, stone and seaweed-infused aromas that marry into rich, intense and impressively concentrated big-bodied though not necessarily overtly muscular flavors that also brim with ample amounts of palate coating dry extract on the dazzlingly persistent finish." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Domaine Bois de Boursan Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Felix is superb. Showing a mature, yet still lively and fruit-driven profile of sweet currants, saddle leather, truffle, and garrigue, it stays beautifully rich and seductive on the palate, with layers of sweet fruit, no hard edges and a great finish. Certainly a ripe vintage, yet everything is perfectly proportioned, the tannins are sweet and it is a joy to drink. A blend of 65% Grenache and the balance a mix of Mourvedre and Syrah, from 90-year-old vines, it held up beautifully with air and is a raging success in the vintage. (JD)" (06/2013)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Domaine Billaud-Simon Chablis Grand Cru "Vaudesir" (93ST, 92RP, 92VN). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(Bernard Billaud began aging this wine in 100% used futs as of vintage 2011): Pale yellow. Musky aromas of mirabelle, toasted brioche, lemon, rose petal and spices. Densely packed and youthfully closed, even austere, but hints at lovely high notes of jasmine and fleur de sel. Very unforthcoming on the spicy back end and in need of seven or eight years in the cellar. But long on potential. (I tasted a bottle of the 2007 Vaudesir, done entire in cuve, and was seduced by its saline, sake-like aromas and silky texture. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne "Les Hauts Lieux" Chateauneuf-du-Pape (95RP, 93VN, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Coming from a higher elevation, cooler terroir and limestone soils, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hauts Lieux is a total rock star in the vintage and checks in as a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and the balance Counoise and Cinsault, which was aged all in foudre. Harvested very late (and this estate normally harvests on the early side) and not wrapping up until October, it possesses gorgeous purity, with mineral-tinged aromas of blackberry, currants, licorice, ground herbs and violets all soaring from the glass. An all-around powerful, structured and rich 2011, with a full-bodied mouthfeel, terrific acidity and big tannin, it will be one of the longest-lived wines in the vintage. Raised in 30% new oak, the wood dominates the aromatics at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Plenty of dark cherry and mulberry fruit abound, with a soft landing on the spice-tinged finish. There is a touch of wood on the attractively textured and lightly mineral-suffused mid-palate that doesn't quite have the same level of concentration before culminating in a dusty, delicious and mildly austere finish of solid but not exceptional persistence. The charcoal note makes an encore, with a lovely twinge of old-school character holding the finish. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Haut-Brion (a blend of 51% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc) showed incredibly at the tasting, and for me is one of the three or four most prodigious wines of the vintage. A compelling nose of roasted herbs, scorched earth, sweet blueberries, plums, black currants, and a hint of graphite is followed by a deep, layered, sumptuously textured, full-bodied Haut-Brion, but one with extraordinary complexity. This wine seems more evolved and approachable than I had expected it to be at age 10. My window of maturity seven years ago was 2012-2040, but I would change that to 2010-2050. (RP)" (06/2010)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru "Vaudésir" (OWC - 94W&S, 93BH, 93RP, 92VN, 91ST) in original wood. Wine & Spirits: "Henriot’s domaine in Chablis includes three acres of vines on the steep, south-facing slopes of Vaudésir. The soils are predominantly chalky clay, mixed with Kimmeridgian limestone. The wine has the beautiful fresh scent of chamomile, a bright, pure expression of chardonnay that carries its chalky floral richness all the way through to a generous end. It’s powerful yet discreet, building layers of flavor intensity and seeming to only get fresher over the course of several days." (04/2014)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Santa Duc "Prestige des Hautes Garrigues" Gigondas (97RP, (94-96ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Up with the 2007 and 2001, the sensational 2010 Gigondas Prestige des Hautes Garrigues is a full-bodied, incredibly rich, yet pure and balanced Gigondas that offers off-the-hook notes of graphite, creme de cassis, licorice and roasted herb aromas and flavors. Bid on this magnum lot of 2009 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (1.5L) (100JS, 100RP, 97WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted, the monumental 2009 Cos d’Estournel has lived up to its pre-bottling potential. A remarkable effort from winemaking guru Jean-Guillaume Prats and owner Michel Reybier, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot (33%) and a touch of Cabernet Franc (2%) was cropped at 33 hectoliters per hectare. It boasts an inky/black/purple color along with an extraordinary bouquet of white flowers interwoven with blackberry and blueberry liqueur, incense, charcoal and graphite. The wine hits the palate with extraordinary purity, balance and intensity as well as perfect equilibrium, and a seamless integration of tannin, acidity, wood and alcohol. An iconic wine as well as a remarkable achievement, it is the greatest Cos d’Estournel ever produced. It is approachable enough at present that one could appreciate it wi

1986 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (98RP, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the château, the 1986 Lafite-Rothschild continues to offer an exquisite bouquet at 30 years of age. This is beautifully defined, still full of energy, with copious blackberry, clove, leather and graphite aromas that seem to gain momentum in the glass. The palate is extremely well balanced with a crystalline quality, filigree tannin, perfectly pitched acidity, a quintessential Lafite-Rothschild with a sense of energy and focus undiminished by time. This finish displays immense purity and refinement, one of the most mineral-driven Lafites that I have encountered, whilst the aftertaste seems to linger for over one minute. It must rank as one of the finest wines from the estate. (NM)" (12/2016)

Knockout nose combines peach, nut oil, ginger, white flowers and a light metallic nuance. Then lush, rich and deep in the mouth, with compelling palate-saturating flavors of papaya, smoky minerals and crystallized grapefruit. The finish is vibrant and long, with a lingering note of orange oil. The 1990 vintage is remembered for its very small yields and clean fruit that was practically devoid of noble rot. 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (95JS, 95RP, 95VN, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is 'great stuff,' with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild. (RP)" (02/1998)

This is stunning stuff, and whatever new oak has been used -- and there is plenty -- it is totally disguised by the luxurious and extravagant fruit level. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blockbuster, dark plum/garnet-colored wine, the 1982 L’Evangile reveals a decadent, extravagantly rich nose of caramelized fruit, plum, licorice, smoked meats, and toffee. This opulent, full-bodied Pomerol caresses the palate with layers and layers of glycerin and fruit. The tannin is barely noticeable in this massive, rich, gorgeous effort. I have opened a number of bottles from the vintage recently, and they were spectacular. It’s a wine that evolves with time, showing black olives, berries, chocolate and hints of cedar. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Along with the 1982, 2000, and 2005, the 1990 is one of those monumental Grand Puy Lacostes that you can’t have enough of. Still inky/blue/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a gorgeously sweet, pure nose of creme de cassis, spring flowers, and a hint of wet rocks. The wine is full-bodied, plush, and expansive with impressive levels of glycerin and purity as well as an endearing texture. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1982 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien (98RP, 96ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A massive wine that is clearly of first-growth quality in this vintage, the 1982 Gruaud Larose remains a youngster. A broodingly dense, thick, unctuously textured, inky/plum/garnet/purple color offers up scents of beef blood, steak tartare, cassis, herbs, tobacco, and underbrush. One of the most concentrated wines of the vintage (as well as one of the most concentrated Bordeaux’s I have ever tasted), it is a huge, full-bodied, weighty, rich wine whose tannins are getting silkier and silkier. It appears set for another 30-40 years of life. This behemoth is a singularly profound example of Gruaud Larose that continues to justify its legendary status. Anticipated maturity: now-2050. 2012 Domaine Marc Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Domaine Marc Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" . Neal Martin had this to say about Domaine Marc Morey: "They are one of several Morey’s in the village that stem from Fernand Morey, who settled their in 1919 and opened a revered restaurant. He was joined by his son Marc in 1944; then by his own daughter Marie-Josephe and her husband Bernard Mollard in 1977. And finally the person who met me at their winery, their daughter Sabine. Like many in the village, the emphasis here is upon Chardonnay, which occupies just over seven of their nine hectares. They have adopted a lutte raisonnee approach to viticulture in recent years, with a ten-month elevage for their white usually employing around 30% new oak. Their underground cellar had recently been refitted with a rather chichi, grotto-like tasting room. Sabine has certainly stepped the wines up a level in recent vintages."

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2000 Les Fiefs de Lagrange, St-Julien (OWC - 90JG, 89WS) in original wood. John Gilman: "The 2000 vintage of Les Fiefs de Lagrange is noteworthy for having had all of the château’s Petit Verdot included in the second label, and the wine should prove to be quite ageworthy as a result. The bouquet is initially a bit marked by its toasty oak, which may mean that this vintage of Les Fiefs saw a bit more than the standard ten percent, but there is no issue with the integration of the wood on the palate. The bouquet is deep and powerful, as it offers up notes of black cherries, cassis, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate, soil tones and the toasty oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and youthfully reticent, with a rock solid core of fruit, plenty of ripe tannins, sound acids and excellent length and grip on the still very primary finish. This will be a long-distance runner of a second label, and probably demand a good decade in the cellar before it reach

1998 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (94W&S, 93ST, 91JS, 91WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Very deep saturated ruby. Archetypical Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated nose offers fresh blackcurrant, lead pencil and flowers complicated by strong spice notes. Bright and juicy on entry, with very pure flavors of dark berries, underbrush and dried herbs, then slightly austere and linear in the middle palate. Finishes with a lingering saline nuance and very good length. A very refined and impeccably balanced Mouton, but I would have liked a little bit more concentration and opulence for an even higher score. This classic Mouton possesses relatively high acidity and a solid tannic structure; it offers early accessibility but should age effortlessly for another 15 or 20 years. 93+ (ID)" (8/2011)

1989 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this bottle of 1989 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (100RP, 97ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Both La Mission-Haut-Brion and Haut-Brion hit home runs in this vintage, which did not produce as many profound wines as the Bordeaux publicity machine suggested. 1989, the 200th anniversary of the French revolution, was an incredibly hot year (surpassed only by 1990 and 2003). Even from barrel the seamless 1989 La Mission revealed a special elixir aspect, tasting like it had been designed by Chanel. It still possesses a blue/purple color with only a hint of garnet creeping in, and the explosive aromatics offer up notes of licorice, creme de cassis, blueberry liqueur, smoky barbecue meats, truffles and graphite. If that’s not enough to get one salivating, the palate has never disappointed either. Full-bodied with extraordinary opulence as well as sweet, well-integrated, velvety tannins, this fresh, lively, blockbuster La Mission appears to be one of those rare wines tha

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*** Don't Miss - Outstanding *** Here too there is enough wood to notice on the notably ripe and fresh aromas of black cherry, plum, pungent earth and abundant sauvage scents. The big, rich and full-bodied flavors possess an overt muscularity along with plenty of power on the extract-rich, intense and very firmly structured finale. As it always is this is rustic and austere and will need a minimum of 10 years to arrive at its peak but 15 will be better. The domaine almost never misses with this wine and the 2013 is potentially great." (01/2015)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien (OWC - 95RP, 94JS, 94WE, 92ST, 92WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the stars of the vintage, and a remarkable achievement in 2008, with impressive richness, this dense purple colored wine is almost as opaque as the 2010. Spring flowers, crushed rocks, creme de cassis and some subtle oak are followed by a full-bodied, concentrated wine that transcends the vintage character in its power, richness, and aging potential. It also exhibits tremendous precision, purity, and depth of character. It is more forward than the 2010 is likely to be, but probably not as sumptuous as the 2009 will turn out to be. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Jacquesson "Champs Cain" Avize Extra Brut Champagne (96RP, 95VN, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From vines planted in 1962, the single-vineyard Jacquesson 2004 Extra Brut Avize Champ Cain leads with an utterly remarkable nose. A greenhouse-like profusion of leafing and flowering things is imposed over sea breeze, with jasmine; musky narcissus; nose-prickling spice as if from some exotic orchid; iodine-tinged toasted shrimp shells; and toasted grain all pungently present and anticipating the elusive complexity delivered on a caressingly polished yet consummately refreshing and almost ethereally delicate palate. Over time, the sense of creaminess and the refinement of bubbles became more evident, along with a contrasting impression of enhanced piquancy, suggesting hops and lentil sprouts, all in the context of remarkable poise and transparency to nuance. The endlessly fascinating finish remains infectiously juicy and subtly yet mouthwateringly sal

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Sweet Spot Outstanding* (From .87 ha parcel planted in 1928) A slightly riper though still extremely fresh nose features notes of plum and dark berry fruit liqueur aromas that complement the equally ripe and velvety full-bodied flavors that brim with both minerality and plenty of dry extract that coats the mouth. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Angélus, St-Emilion (100RP, 97JS, 96ST, 96W&S, 96WS, 95WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 7,000 case blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc will rival or perhaps eclipse vintages such as 2000, 1998, 1990, and 1989. Its dense purple color is followed by an extraordinary perfume of charcoal, espresso roast, blackberries, blueberries, and a hint of wood. In spite of its thick texture, terrific acidity, high tannins, and enormous intensity as well as richness, it is surprisingly approachable, but given how slowly the 1989 and 1990 have aged, I would recommend cellaring it for 8-10 years. It should keep for three decades. A brilliant wine!" (04/2008)

1982 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Latour, Pauillac (100RP, 100VN, 98JS, 98WS, 97ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Always somewhat atypical, the 1982 Latour has been the most opulent, flamboyant, and precocious of the northern Medocs, especially the St.-Juliens, Pauillacs, and St.-Estephes. It hasn't changed much over the last 10-15 years, revealing sweet tannins as well as extraordinarily decadent, even extravagant levels of fruit, glycerin, and body. It is an amazing wine, and on several occasions, I have actually picked it as a right bank Pomerol because of the lushness and succulence of the cedary, blackberry, black currant fruit. This vintage has always tasted great, even in its youth, and revealed a precociousness that one does not associate with this Chateau. However, the 1982 is still evolving at a glacial pace. The concentration remains remarkable, and the wine is a full-bodied, exuberant, rich, classic Pauillac in its aromatic and flavor profiles...This remarkable effort will last

1971 Petrus, Pomerol
Bid on this bottle of 1971 Petrus, Pomerol (95RP, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has been seemingly fully mature since the mid- to late seventies. It is a seductive, opulent vintage for Petrus. The color now is a dark garnet with considerable amber at the rim. The incredible nose of Christmas fruitcake intermixed with mocha, jammy kirsch, and black currants is followed by a silky textured, full-bodied, very opulent wine that is still totally intact. The tannins have totally dissipated, and the wine is an unctuous, seductive Petrus that is certainly one of the vintages that is most delicious and compelling. A sensational wine and probably the wine of the vintage. (RP)" (01/2003)

1990 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (98RP, 98VN, 97JS, 97ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of my favorite Cheval Blancs, it remains to be seen if the 1998, 2000, and 2008 will live up to this offering. It is the ripest wine of the aforementioned vintages, with a complex bouquet of tobacco leaf, Christmas fruitcake, sweet black fruits, bordering on fig and plum, but no hint of overripeness, and notions of new saddle leather, mint, and incense. The gorgeously expressive aromatics are followed by a full-bodied wine revealing abundant glycerin as well as elevated alcohol, but it is not hot, and nothing is out of place. Expansive, rich, and revealing the nuances and complexity that come from bottle age, it is at its peak of maturity where it should remain for another 10-15 years. 98+ (RP)" (06/2009)

An inky/purple color is followed by aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, blackberries, charcoal, coffee and licorice. The explosive bouquet is followed by a low acid, full-bodied, chewy wine with sweet tannin and ripe, jammy fruit and glycerin. It hit its peak of maturity 4-5 years ago, but is holding nicely. 1990 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (96RP, 96ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Interestingly, a bottle of 1990 Lafite Rothschild I pulled from my cellar for a video blog on my web site was still buttoned down, tight, and even with extended decanting was not showing as much as I would have hoped. However, a bottle tasted, of all places, in Seoul, Korea in February, was only a few points short of perfection. That amazing performance motivated me to pull another bottle out of my cellar and follow it over the course of two days. Sure enough, by the second day the wine was roaring from the glass. The 1990 Lafite has turned out far better than my early assessment. While it still possesses some firmness, and performs like a late adolescent in terms of its evolution, it boasts gorgeous aromas of cedar, tobacco leaf, cassis, and lead pencil shavings. The explosive aromas are followed by a fleshy, full-bodied wine that should hit its peak in 5-8 years, and last for 25

James Suckling: "This was yet another wine I drunk with wine collector friends in Bangkok – the city is truly buzzing when it comes to wine and when you know where to look! On the nose, there were intense aromas of iron, pot iron and dried fruits, as well as hints of nuts and wet earth. On the palate, it showed a gorgeous texture of ripe tannins and lots of spicy and currant fruit character. A full-bodied, very soft and silky Bordeaux with lots of flavors and a superb finish. Just right now – indeed it seems to be getting younger with age, not older! Decant an hour before. I think it's better than the legendary 1990. It's certainly cleaner and more consistent quality." 1982 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1982 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (100RP, 98WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the monumental wines of the last century is the 1982 Pichon Lalande. Since bottling, it has flirted with perfection, and was a sprinter out of the gate, which gave rise to questions about how quickly it would begin its decline. However, at age 27, it retains all its glossy, rich, flamboyant cassis fruit, chocolaty, berry jam-like notes, and plenty of earthy, foresty flavors. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Palmer vertical in London, the 1989 Château Palmer has always been my favourite vintage from that decade after the 1983. The first bottle was unfortunately corked. The second was as it should be: the nose tensile with red berries, sous-bois, potpourri and strawberry pastille - lively and energetic. The palate is medium-bodied and vibrant right from the start, silky in texture with plenty of citrus fruit, gently building to a harmonious and detailed finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a magnificent Château Palmer that continues to effortlessly dish out so much vinous pleasure. Tasted May 2015.(NM)" (05/2016)

1986 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1986 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (94RP, 93ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1986 Lynch Bages has a knockout bouquet that wraps its arms around you with all its loveliness: pure black cherries, mint and cedar, even a touch of glycerine still there. Vibrant and youthful. The palate is beautifully balanced, crisp and taut, linear but very precise with a fine bead of acidity. You just fall for the harmony of this Lynch Bages, the intensity of fruit that seems undiminished on the finish. Is it up there with the 1989 and 1990? Maybe not, but it is not far behind. Frankly this Lynch Bages is a 1986 Claret that you cannot own too much of and as I commented to Jean-Michel Cazes tasting alongside me, at 30 years of age it still has more to give. Tasted July 2016. Its saturated ruby/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of cedar wood, creme de cassis, wood smoke, coffee, and dried herbs. The wine is forward, lush, and full-bodied. 1990 Clerc-Milon, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Clerc-Milon, Pauillac (94RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 is a benchmark Clerc Milon that put all those years of hurt behind it. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, this is a very different blend to the 1986 due to vineyard acquisitions. It is almost a decade since the 1990 blew me away whilst dining at Mouton in my “buying” days and by 2013 it has retained that wondrous bouquet of blackberry, kirsch, fresh mint and leather. Frankly speaking, you would not want to put Mouton ’90 anywhere near, to spare the First Growth’s blushes. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It has attractive structure and very impressive focus – layers of soy-tinged black fruit, hints of sandalwood and cloves with a suave, vigorous, classically styled finish. Superb! Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Grand Veneur "Vieilles Vignes" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 95ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A monumental effort meriting a perfect score, the super-rich 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is a 4,000-bottle blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah from 55- to 105-year-old vines and was aged for 18 months in small oak. The wine offers majestic blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with kirsch, licorice and subtle Provencal herbs in the background. It is akin to chewing meat in the mouth given its viscosity and thickness. This utterly amazing wine comes close to being over the top, but it pulls back just in time. A massive Chateauneuf du Pape (even for a 2010), it needs 5-6 years of cellaring and should age effortlessly for 25-30 years. Bravo! (RP)" (10/2012)

Of the 2010 Domaine Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru "Cailleret",Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: " *Outstanding, Don't Miss!* This is even more complex but also much more restrained with a spicy nose of plum, violets, earth, cassis and plenty of stone character. There is an abundance of sap that confers a velvety texture to the delicious, refined and well-delineated flavors that deliver superb depth and length on the mineral-inflected finish. Bid on this magnum lot of 2004 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanee "Clos du Chateau" (1.5L) (90JG). John Gilman: "The 2004 Clos du Château is a lovely bottle that is only a few years from reaching its plateau of maturity and is showing very little signs of any pepperiness on either the nose or palate. The bouquet is a fine mélange of woodsmoke, dark berries, fresh herbs, a touch of game, incipient notes of sous bois, spicy oak and a bit of espresso in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish, long and beautifully complex, with modest tannins, sound acids and lovely focus on the long, refined finish. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan (100RP, 96JS, 95WE, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I certainly underrated the 2010 Pape Clement from barrel, rating it only 93-95+. (Thank God I put a 'plus' there!) Having tasted it four times in Bordeaux, and rating it perfect three times and 99 the fourth time, this final blend of 51% Merlot, 47.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1.5% Petit Verdot is perfection in a bottle. Tipping the scales at 14.5% natural alcohol, there are 8,000 cases of it. Its sublime elegance, the power, the medium to full-bodied texture, the silky tannins, the subtle notes of smoke, lead pencil shavings, black currants, charcoal, camphor, blueberry and cassis fruit are all remarkable. It is a rich, full-throttle wine, but the elegance and the great terroir of Pape Clement come through in abundance. It is slightly more developed and evolved than the 2005 was at a similar point in its evolution, but it certainly needs another 5-7 years to dev

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A black raspberry liqueur nose leads to rich, sweet and thick flavors that exude opulence, finishing with a seductive roundness as the impressive level of mid-palate sap completely buries the moderate tannic spine. This isn't quite as precise as the Clos de la Roche but it's a seriously seductive wine and because of the sappiness, this could be enjoyed young or held for 6 to 8 years first." (01/2006)

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Jacques Prieur Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru ((93-95RP), 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "According to Jacques Prieur, the yields on the Corton-Charlemagne were lower than average because its south-facing vines had a successful early first flowering, but subsequent flowers were aborted by cool weather. Its mouth-watering, rich, and deep nose reveals marvelous ripeness (Prieur stated that the '96 is the ripest Corton he has produced since he started with the 1992 vintage), sweet pears, white peaches, and minerals. On the palate, this massive, full-bodied, and thick wine boasts waves of super-ripe white fruits, earth, mineral, and toast flavors. Bid on this bottle of 2001 Henri Boillot Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru (94BH, 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The purity here is mind bending and this is perhaps the most transparent wine in this entire group. Elegant, fine and crystalline with superbly detailed fruit and flavors with a positively brilliant, almost painfully intense finish that is astonishingly long. Classy and altogether imposing with its unmatched combination of complexity, depth and focus. While I cannot argue that this has better material than either the Montrachet or the incredible Corton-Charlemagne, I can say that stylistically, the Chevalier is my personal favorite. Displaying super-ripe and candied tropical fruits on the nose, this is a full-bodied, mouth-coating, thick, complex, and complete wine. Its unbelievable breadth and depth is awesomely focused by its high levels of fresh, lively acidity. It combines decadence and hedonism with precision and delineation in an unprecedented manner. There is a breath-taking purity to its sweet anise, liquid mineral, pear, and white peach flavors as well as in its profoundly long, spicy oak-infused finish. In short, it is awesome! Bid on this bottle of 2004 Lucien Le Moine Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Amoureuses" (92ST, (89-91BH), 91WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red-ruby. Dark raspberry and sassafras aromas. Fairly large-scaled and broad but with a restrained sweetness. Rich and supple but initially lacking the lift and detail of the Charmes. With air, though, this showed aromas and flavors of blackberry, violet and minerals and a building sweetness. It veers more towards the carefree, zesty fruit profile with orange blossom and fresh apricot infusing the pure red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit. This is feminine and nicely defined. 1971 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1971 Margaux, Margaux. Michael Broadbent: "Distinctly more attractive than Lafite or Latour...well covered from the mid-1970s and a decade later displaying considerable charm with a delicate, fragrant bouquet and crisp fruit and ,though fully mature - looking, almost identical comments at a dinner in 1996. The following year, at the first of Wagner's verticals, sweet, flavoury, refreshing, some charm buy just misses. Now fully mature-looking with a ruddy amber colour and a nowhere-to-go orange rim. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (94RP, 92JS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Not as concentrated as the 1982, or as most of the vintages made since 2001, the 1990 Cos has reached full maturity. It exhibits sweet berry fruit intermixed with spice box, herbs, and spring flowers. Expansive, round, and sensual, with wonderful purity as well as lushness, this irresistible wine can be enjoyed over the next 6-10 years. (RP)" (06/2009)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (99RP, 94WS, 93ST, 93VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This magnificent Lynch Bages has been drinking well since the day it was released and it continues to go from strength to strength. The biggest, richest, fullest-bodied Lynch Bages until the 2000, the fully mature 1990 exhibits an unbelievably explosive nose of black currants, cedarwood, herbs and spice. The majestic, classically Bordeaux aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, voluptuously textured, rich, intense wine with superb purity as well as thrilling levels of fruit, glycerin and sweetness. 2006 Domaine Dujac Clos St. Denis Grand Cru (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2006 Domaine Dujac Clos St. Denis Grand Cru (1.5L) (95RP, 94ST, 93BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Clos St Denis from Domaine Dujac, tasted blind, is developing into one of the best wines in the Côte de Nuits apropos this inconsistent vintage. It comes at you with its vibrant raspberry fruit - no holding back here. There is a touch of glossiness at first and then this makes way for subtle game and leather scents (in fact, one fellow taster commented that it was just a little sweaty, but in a good way). The palate is underpinned by plenty of sweet red berry fruit, that gaminess continuing from the aromatics, erring just slightly towards a Côte-Rôtie-like finish. There is an opulence here, but it is not garish or vulgar. It's just a Clos Saint Denis self-aware of its quality and has nurtured a bit of...cockiness. This is well worth hunting down. 1985 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1985 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (94RP, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " This is a great Pichon-Lalande wallowing in its maturity. Here it retains that enticing tobacco-infused nose with leather and a touch of thyme, the palate beautifully balanced with tarry black fruit, vibrant acidity, mellow and supple with a touch of game coming through. Supple with firm tannins marrying naturally on the finish that has the texture (though not alcohol!) of a tawny port. I suspect this has not intention of ameliorating further and alongside the 1983, these are the Pichon Lalande’s to start depleting in your cellar. Drink now-2018. Tasted January 2010. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A fabulous example, the 1990 Troplong Mondot is only equaled by such recent vintages as 2000, 2005, and 2008. The inky/garnet/plum/purple-colored 1990 exhibits notes of coffee, blackberries, licorice, camphor, and espresso. Beautiful, sweet plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit soar from the glass of this opaque, purple wine that still hasn’t lost much in color. Bid on this 2-magnum lot of 1990 Domaine Maume Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru (1.5L) (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "All of Maume's 1990 offerings are typical of his style of winemaking. They are darkly-colored, powerful, dense, and backward. Most of them will require 7-10 years of cellaring. Consider Maume's 1982s, a vintage when most red burgundies are in complete decline. His wines are just beginning to reach full maturity. The top wine is Maume's sensational Mazis-Chambertin. With a saturated dark purple color, a huge, unevolved fragrance of black-raspberries, minerals, licorice, and pepper, this full-bodied, virile, super-concentrated, dense, old style red burgundy exhibits mouth-searing tannins [and] enormous extraction of fruit ...(RP) " (10/1992)

A wine that has totally blossomed in bottle, the 2004 is firing on all cylinders right now. Rich, ample and beautifully nuanced, the 2004 has it all; expressive aromatics, deep fruit and more than enough structure to age well for decades. I have been tasting the 2004 since before it was released and it just keeps getting better and better. Today, it is stunning. 1989 Lagrange, St-Julien
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1989 Lagrange, St-Julien (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This muscular, thick, unctuous, lavishly-oaked wine may cause raised eyebrows by those looking for something restrained and understated. There is no doubting the hedonistic appeal of this style of wine. The 1989 (the first bottle was corked) is a smoky, tar, cassis, roasted herb, jammy style of wine, with a dense purple color, sweet tannin, and low acidity. It is easy to drink, although the bouquet has not changed since I tasted it several years ago. The wine is soft and fat, but not flabby. It should drink well for 15+ years, probably developing more focus as well as a more classical profile. The 1989 Lagrange is a big, rich, boldly-flavored wine made in a California-like style. Bid on this bottle of 2004 Domaine Leflaive Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "It seems as though it's no longer a matter of whether the '04 BBM is reduced but just how reduced and this latest bottle was seriously reduced, indeed to the point where it completely dominated the nose. Other bottles certainly have displayed some but not completely at the expense of the hallmark honeysuckle aromas. The tight, and still quite backward, vibrant medium-bodied plus flavors possess real richness, volume and more structure than I typically find yet the balance is absolutely impeccable. The vibrancy and energy here are most impressive but one has to begin to wonder if the reduction hasn't become permanent? If it has it won't make the wine unpleasant but it will deprive of us of the enjoyment of the nose. In view of this potential difficulty (especially since it appears to be the case with the '04 Clavoillons - see herein), I have lowered my score somewhat. O

In the vineyards that we own or manage, we had no particular problems with oidium or rot in general though of course there was nothing to be done about the hail. Indeed, we were so hard hit in Clos des Mouches that there isn't one in 2004. The spring was relatively dry but there was plenty of rain in July and August so the maturities weren't blocked. Thankfully, September was magnificent and it really saved the harvest as I can't really imagine what quality would have been like without it. We began picking the reds in the Côte de Beaune on September 22nd and in the Côte de Nuits on September 28th. There was of course some fairly serious sorting to do but sugars were very good, in fact surprisingly good though the phenolic ripeness wa

2004 Méo-Camuzet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Feusselottes"
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Méo-Camuzet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Feusselottes" ((89-91BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Sweet Spot Outstanding* The most elegant wine in the range with a highly expressive and gorgeously pure nose of primarily red cherry and raspberry aromas that are very Chambolle in character that precede precise, minerally and decidedly linear and dusty flavors that are textured and softly chewy on the long and fine finish. Good stuff here and recommended, again particularly for those who gravitate towards wines that are firm yet nuanced." (01/2006)
