French Wine

When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its regions, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and occasionally as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a 100 lives. To understand and appreciate French wine, you only need to begin tasting them. Check out some of the top picks that our buyers have tracked down - several of these wines are imported directly from France.

2011 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Goulots" Vieilles Vignes
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Goulots" Vieilles Vignes ((91-94ST), (92-94VN), (90-92BH)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright, full red. Knockout high-pitched perfume combines red cherry, licorice, minerals and blood orange. Pungent and precise in the mouth, with bracing flavors of red fruits and minerals. Tightens up considerably on the very long, bracing, aromatic finish. This has the structure and verve for a graceful evolution in bottle. (ST)" (01/2013)

2012 Domaine Jacques Prieur Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Combettes"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Domaine Jacques Prieur Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Combettes" ((89-92BH), (90-92RP), 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes comes from their sizable 1.50-hectare parcel located just after Meursault Charmes-Dessus. It has a very vivacious bouquet with citrus peel and lemon thyme – the most effervescent aromatics displayed by Prieur’s 2012 so far. The palate is well balanced with a vibrant opening. The acidity is well judged and there are plenty of shimmering apricot and white peach notes lining up on the tense finish. Excellent. (NM)" (10/2013)

1993 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Haut-Doix"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1993 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Haut-Doix". Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Groffier's better wines were unquestionably successful in 1993. His Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts Doix offers sweet fruit, a soft underbelly, a velvety texture, fine concentration, light tannin, and a fragrant set of aromatics. The wine will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and will last for a decade. For the first time since I have been tasting Groffier's wines, he decided to bottle them without fining or filtration. 2001 Angélus, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Angélus, St-Emilion (93RP, 92WS, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A brilliant performance by Hubert de Bouard, the 2001 Angelus is a more restrained and deliniated version of the 2000...Its deep purple color is followed by a rich nose of creosote, charcoal, blackberries, plums, cassis and espresso roast. Elegant, medium bodied and rich, with a measured ripeness and moderate structure in the pure, nicely proportioned finish...beautifully put together. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2017." (06/2004)

2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (100RP, (98-100WE), 98JS, 96ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An amazing wine in every sense, this classic, full-bodied Pauillac is the quintessential Pontet Canet from proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who continues to reduce yields and farms his vineyards biodynamically – a rarity in Bordeaux. Black as a moonless night, the 2009 Pontet Canet offers up notes of incense, graphite, smoke, licorice, creme de cassis and blackberries. A wine of irrefutable purity, laser-like precision, colossal weight and richness, and sensational freshness, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is capable of lasting 50 or more years. The tannins are elevated, but they are sweet and beautifully integrated as are the acidity, wood and alcohol (which must be in excess of 14%). This vineyard, which is situated on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, appears to have done everything perfectly in 2009. This cuvee should shut down in

2005 Domaine Louis Jadot Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru "Les Petits Monts"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Louis Jadot Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru "Les Petits Monts" (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A ripe and mildly oaky nose displays the initial hints of secondary development but still remains mostly primary with plenty of spice elements to the plum and various dark berry fruit aromas. The moderately robust, delicious and admirably concentrated medium weight flavors exude a fine bead of minerality on the firm but not hard yet mildly austere finish that displays a hint of warmth. While this could be enjoyed now, I would advise continued patience as there is plenty of remaining upside development potential." (03/2017)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (97WE, 94WS, 93RP, 93ST, 93W&S). Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* A classic in development, a wine that will last for decades. It is certainly powerful, but already the shape is finalized, with its plums and berries settling down with perfumes, acidity, just enough tannins and a warm, welcoming richness. A great argument for the superiority of 2001 over 2000. (RV)" (12/2007)

Touches of spice and wood are present, lending complexity to the ripe fruits and balanced tannins. Impressive. (RV)" (06/2008)

2010 Pavie, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Pavie, St-Emilion (100RP, 98JS, (94-97WS), 95ST, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What fun, excitement and joy it will be to compare the four perfect wines Perse has made in 2005, 2009, 2010 and, of course, the 2000, in 25 or so years. This wine is truly profound Bordeaux. Everything is in place - remarkable concentration and a beautiful nose of cedar and ripe blackcurrant and blackberry with some kirsch and spice box in the background. Lavishly rich, with slightly more structure and delineation than the more Rabelaisian 2009, this wine does show some serious tannins in the finish, and comes across as incredibly youthful. Of course, it's five years old, but it tastes more like a just-bottled barrel sample than a 2010. In any event, this wine is set for a long, long life and should be forgotten for at least another decade. Consume it over the following 75 or more years." (08/2016)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Reservée" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (99JD, 98RP, 97WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "Close to my 12th bottle of the 2003 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée and this was one of the more tight and compact bottles. The aromas are dense and pure with stunning cassis and dark fruit intermixed with licorice, meat and leather notes. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (93JS, 93RP, 92ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beautiful effort, the 2001 Cos d'Estournel (65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot) exhibits a poised, noble bouquet of black currants, cedar, spice box, and licorice. A hint of truffles emerges as it sits in the glass. Medium-bodied with sweet fruit (mostly black) and nicely integrated wood, it builds incrementally in the mouth, ending with a 50-second finish. Drink this stylish, restrained yet substantial claret over the next 15+ years. (RP)" (06/2004)

1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

Full-bodied, with ultrapolished tannins and a silky mouthfeel. The palate turns to leaves, cedar and dried berries on the finish, which goes on and on. This is still reserved for the vintage, suggesting a long life ahead. Just coming around now, but will improve many years ahead. I have always loved this Lynch. (JS, Web-2010)"

Discreet wood toast highlights an elegant, pure and relatively refined nose of primarily floral, white peach, pear and subtle spice hints that are also reflected by the round, rich and quite generous big-bodied flavors that possess ample dry extract. It's impressive how this wine manages to retain its fine sense of focus and precision given the palate staining finish. A very fine effort. " (07/2009)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is quite reserved with only grudging hints of red berries, damp earth and subtle spice that introduce pure, racy and detailed middle weight flavors that display the classic mineral-inflected character of a fine Lavaut plus a superbly elegant and fine finish. This is really beautiful juice of grand cru caliber elegance and finesse. In short, I very much like the purity and style this offers. *Outstanding*" (01/2005)

This doesn't have the sleek muscularity and tension of the Bonnes Mares but if anything, there is arguably even better material here crafted in an old school style. Its fabulously satiny texture, concentration, and purity are immensely impressive. This medium-bodied wine coats the palate with innumerable black fruits, minerals, and spices. The palate is more floral and feminine with good complexity: cedar, forest floor, earth - all quite lifted and perfumed from the ripe Merlot. The palate is smooth, with well-knit tannins, good acidity, though with a touch of excess alcohol that lends the wine some bitterness. Bid on this bottle of 2010 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan (100RP, 96JS, 95WE, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I certainly underrated the 2010 Pape Clement from barrel, rating it only 93-95+. (Thank God I put a 'plus' there!) Having tasted it four times in Bordeaux, and rating it perfect three times and 99 the fourth time, this final blend of 51% Merlot, 47.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1.5% Petit Verdot is perfection in a bottle. Tipping the scales at 14.5% natural alcohol, there are 8,000 cases of it. Its sublime elegance, the power, the medium to full-bodied texture, the silky tannins, the subtle notes of smoke, lead pencil shavings, black currants, charcoal, camphor, blueberry and cassis fruit are all remarkable. It is a rich, full-throttle wine, but the elegance and the great terroir of Pape Clement come through in abundance. It is slightly more developed and evolved than the 2005 was at a similar point in its evolution, but it certainly needs another 5-7 years to develop f

This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years, not to re-emerge for 7-8 years. Scents of gravel, earth, violets, perfume, jammy blueberries, cassis liqueur, black cherries, and hints of road tar are followed by a velvety-textured, full-bodied, and magnificently concentrated wine. Candied cherries, stones, rosemary, spicy oak, Asian spices, and hints of chocolate can be found in this blockbuster's powerful yet graceful flavor profile and substantial finish. Wine Spectator: " A deep wine--one where you have to put your nose far into the glass to capture the subtleties. The black fruit, game, mineral and currant notes fill the palate, proving how dense and thick this '96 red Burgundy is. A brilliant Pommard. *Top 100 Wines of 1999* (PM)" (09/1999)

Bid on this bottle of 1997 Domaine Hubert Lignier Clos des La Roche Grand Cru (94RP, 94VN, 93WS, 92ST, 91BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The saturated, medium-to-dark ruby-colored 1997 Clos de la Roche has intensely spicy, candle wax, and blackberry aromas. This full-bodied and broad wine is opulently-textured and filled with sweet plummy red fruits, jammy candied cherries, as well as hints of hoisin sauce. Its extensive finish reveals loads of well-ripened, supple tannins. (PR)" (10/2000)

2000 Krug Brut Champagne
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Krug Brut Champagne (98JS, 97W&S, 97WS, 95RP, 95ST, 95VN). James Suckling: "Very fragrant. This has developed bright, ripe red cherry fruit aromas, vanilla cream, sweet roasted almond biscuits, some marzipan, tobacco, lemon meringue and chalky minerals. The palate has an assertive core of fine acidity with more yellow fruits expressed on entry, like peaches and nectarines. Good ripeness, superfine acidity. The redder fruits build as it goes; cherries and raspberries, yellow plums to close. Full of life. Drink now or up to 20 years, it will go the distance." (07/2015)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru "Les Bouchères" (94RP, 93BH, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Meursault Boucheres emerges from the glass with lime, bright citrus, white flowers and crushed rocks. It shows gorgeous inner tension, expressive perfume and a long, impeccable silky finish. Bright floral notes add lift on the finish. This could probably use another few years in bottle. This is a very steep slope that passes very quickly from being ripe to over-ripe, so the harvest date is critical. Jean-Marc Roulot is one of the most thoughtful, introspective growers in Burgundy, so it is hardly a surprise his 2009s are so sublime. (AG)" (09/2011)

1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (100JS, 100RP, 98ST, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine remains one of the legends of Bordeaux. It has thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed during its first 25 years of life, and over the last 4-5 years has developed such secondary nuances as cedar and spice box. The creme de cassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity, multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are a showcase for what this Chateau accomplished in 1982. The wine is still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears capable of remaining fruity and vibrant in 2082! Thank God it is beginning to budge, as I would like to drink most of my supply before I kick the bucket. This is a great, still youthful wine, and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux chateaux when you see the complexity and brilliance of this first-growth. (RP)" (06/2009)

1990 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (97RP, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A remarkable vintage for Pichon Longueville Baron, 1990 is one of this estate’s two or three finest wines made in the last 40 years. Still inky/blue/purple-tinged to the rim, it reveals an extraordinary bouquet of charcoal, incense, creme de cassis, blue and black fruits, and a hint of licorice as well as an impressively long finish. While drinkable, its evolution is extremely slow, and I would not be surprised to see it last another two decades or more. (RP)" (06/2009)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Jean Grivot Echezeaux Grand Cru (95BH, 95RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Echezeaux is pure silk. Black cherries, spices, licorice and tar are all woven together in a fabric of nearly indescribable elegance. All the elements fall into place as the Echezeaux captivates both the intellectual and hedonistic senses. This is a wine that impresses for its understated elegance. Readers won't find the drive of the Clos de Vougeot or the structure of the Richebourg. Instead, the Echezeaux possesses stunning textural finesse and phenomenal balance. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. Etienne Grivot's 2009s were some of the most exciting wines I tasted on my most recent trip to Burgundy. (AG)" (04/2012)

1966 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1966 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (99ST, 97WS, 92BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Tasted at the La Tâche vertical at The Square. The La Tâche 1966 is one of those wines were composing a tasting note seems futile. How can you express such a wine in words? Well, I will try. It must be considered one of the greatest La Tâche of all time. Typically of this vineyard it is a mercurial Pinot Noir that is deceptively simple upon first acquaintance. Then you notice its unbelievable delineation as scents of dark fruit, sous bois, cigar box and an exotic hint of star anise gently unfold. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins and nigh perfect acidity. There is such brightness and vigor in the 1966, allied with a sense of authority. Over time it gains precocity and there is a daring note of cough candy surfacing unexpectedly on the finish after ten minutes. This is an astonishing La Tâche that flirts with perfection. (NM)" (0

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1961 Haut-Brion, Pessac Léognan (100RP, 98VN, 96WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dark garnet-colored 1961 Haut-Brion is pure perfection, with gloriously intense aromas of tobacco, cedar, chocolate, minerals, and sweet red and black fruits complemented by smoky wood. This has always been a prodigious effort (it was the debut vintage for Jean Delmas). It is extremely full-bodied, with layers of viscous, sweet fruit. This wine is akin to eating candy. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Ducs" (95BH, 95RP, 94VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Volnay Clos Des Ducs is the only wine in this lineup that is playing its cards close to the vest. Weightless yet powerful, the Clos des Ducs impresses for its striking balance and poise. There is so much going on in the glass its hard to know where to start. Floral notes meld into hints of licorice, sweet red cherries and mint in this crystalline, totally gorgeous Volnay. Today the tannins are impossibly firm, so readers will have to be patient. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Domaine de Montille Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Malconsorts Cuvée Christiane" ((94-96RP), (92-95BH), (92-95VN)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Malconsorts 'Christianne,' which I asked to taste directly alongside the regular Malconsorts, has more delineation and precision, more mineralité coming through on the nose, veins of wet limestone and sea spray emerging with time. The palate is also noticeably different with greater tension and focus, a sense if coiled-up energy that is uncommon in this vintage. This surely illustrates the profound effects of terroir: a serious 2013 that should age with style. (NM)" (12/2014)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Suchots" ((89-91RP), 91VN, 90BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Suchots comes from a 0.45-hectare holding planted back in 1920. It has a slightly muted nose out of barrel, but it unfurls revealing earthy, mossy scents with aeration. The palate is clean and fresh, but somehow foursquare and a little conservative compared to some of the domaine’s other premier crus. Showing an amber/mature color, it has loads of garrigue, spice meats, red currants, licorice and pepper as well as a rich, layered and seamless profile on the palate. The palate is very precise and subtle with tangerine and citrus peel, hints of blackberry leaf emerging toward the finish. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru "Montée de Tonnerre" ((93-94RP), (92-94VN), 93BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Toasted nuts and lemon oil in the nose of the Raveneau 2007 Chablis Montee de Tonnerre (whose quantities were drastically reduced by hail) put one in mind of the Cote d’Or. But from that point on, it turns in a direction not possible anywhere other than Chablis. Honey, citrus oil, and fresh ginger reinforce an impression of bitter-sweetness on the palate, along with suggestions of musk, crustacean reduction, and brine. This finishes with electric vivacity and implacable grip, the sharp concentration of ginger, iodine, lemon zest, and white pepper creating a memorable sense of vibrancy. One should be able to marvel at this for 10-12 years. (DS)" (12/2009)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are three demi-muids and half a barrique of Michel Colin's 2007 Puligny-Montrachet Les Demoiselles constituting a bumper crop for this tiny site (now with three owners, including son Bruno and the Domaine Amiot). A faint aura of white truffle joins chalk dust, sea breeze, iris, and diverse citrus in the nose. Luscious and bright on the palate, with a subtly creamy texture, this finishes with a memorable, dynamic mingling lime, grapefruit, tangerine and white peach with chalk, salt, toasted nuts, and savory suggestions of lobster shell reduction and browned butter. Firm yet well-integrated tannins provide the backbone for an expressive core of dark fruit. The wine gains finesse on the mid-palate and finish, but ultimately this needs much more time to blossom. It is one of the handful of 2003s I bought from the Right Bank of Bordeaux in this vintage. Angelus really nailed the vintage, and has produced a fully mature wine that’s truly strutting its stuff. Dense, bluish/purple, it offers gorgeous notes of espresso roast, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, acacia flowers and a touch of chocolate. It is full-bodied, opulent and seems close to full maturity, as it is evolving quickly. The wine is full-bodied, rich and should be drunk over the next decade. (RP)" (08/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine Faiveley Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru ((92-94BH), 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Dramatically earthy, spicy and sappy black Pinot fruit beautifully frame the dense, intense, superbly complex flavors that are supported by ripe, solid, firm tannins and incredible length. As good as several of the preceding wines are, there is a class and presence here that only the Musigny possesses and this is extremely impressive and built for the long haul." (01/2004)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Curiously for a classic Drouhin wine, the '93 Griotte displays a strong vanilla component with the dazzling red pinot fruit nose followed by deep, rich, surprisingly soft and fragrant flavors and outstanding length. As seductive as this is now, I suspect it will eventually tighten up and age for years as there is plenty of depth and superb balance. A real stunner." (05/1996)

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Hubert Lignier Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru "Combottes" ((92-94RP), 92ST, 91BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has a bright, medium-to-dark ruby color and a profound nose of jammy black cherries immersed in a spicy veal demi-glace. It explodes on the palate with copious ripe red and black fruit, Asian spices, perfume, and toasted oak. This superb wine is oily-textured, full-bodied, muscular, chewy, and yet highly-defined and sublimely elegant. 1995 Chapoutier Crozes Hermitage Les Meysonnieres
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1995 Chapoutier Crozes Hermitage Les Meysonnieres. It boasts a sweet, blackberry, herbs de Provence, and cassis-scented nose, crisp acidity, sweet, ripe, berry flavors, medium body, and a soft finish. Michel Chapoutier is quick to say that 1995 is one of the all-time great vintages for the northern Rhone, and in particular for Chapoutier. He compares it with 1990, 1961, and 1947. (RP)" (10/1996)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Dame de Montrose, St-Estèphe (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Given the monumental proportions of the 1990 Montrose, it is not surprising that the property's "second" wine is also outstanding. When I tasted this gem, I jokingly asked the proprietors, the Charmolue family, if their selection process had not been too severe! This densely colored (dark plum and purple) wine is not as forbiddingly backward as its bigger sibling, as the nose offers scents of earth, cassis, licorice, and spices. Full-bodied, super-rich, but less tannic than the 1990 Montrose, La Dame ranks with the 1982 Forts de Latour and 1989 Bahans-Haut-Brion as one of the best second wines I have tasted." (06/1993)

Garrigue, seaweed, olive, game and ripe red and black fruits all flow to a medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegant red that has fine tannin and a sunny, graceful personality that's about as gulpable as they come. Its bitter-sweetness extends to notes of vanilla and chocolate that accent a deep black fruit concentration. Vivid, palpable density and old vines creaminess on the palate lead to a richly fruited but not at all superficially sweet, deeply meaty, and decidedly chalk- and stone-inflected finish of amazing refinement and penetration, indeed of Grand Cru length. Subdued but very pure and nuanced aromas of tangy red fruits, flowers, Oriental spices, licorice and crushed stone, plus an exhilarating hint of peach. Wonderfully suave on entry, then rich, ripe, dry and sharply delineated, showing outstanding refinement and aristocratic reserve to its spicy red and blue fruit flavors. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Grivot's 2006 Richebourg unsurprisingly displays a richness, meaty substantiality, and carnal depth that go beyond the other wines in his current collection. Peat, myriad tobaccos, black tea, roasted game, faded lilies, toasted praline, and dark fungal and forest floor elements kaleidoscopically scent the nose, and carry onto a sumptuously-, silkenly-textured, wet stone-lined, yet juicy, buoyant, and dynamic palate. While this wine is not about fruits and berries, it offers black cherries and purple plums to spare. The finish here perpetuates the seemingly paradoxical alliance of grip with levity; caress with vibrancy; and concentration with elegance that characterize many of the finest wines of the vintage. Grivot tasted it with me for the first time after bottling and remarked that he was amazed at what it had gained -- not to mention how little if anyth

1999 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Champans"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1999 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Champans" (93BH, 93JG). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "I clearly under rated this wine, not only in terms of its quality but also its longevity as it has evolved more slowly than I originally imagined. However this beauty is close to being ready for prime time with its elegant and pure nose that is just starting to display the first hints of secondary development with its ripe black pinot fruit and earth nuances. There is excellent richness and concentration to the utterly delicious and increasingly complex flavors that are supported by a still firm yet clearly softening tannic spine, all wrapped in a solidly powerful and impressively persistent finale. For my taste this is almost ready though I would suggest waiting for another 1 to 3 years first though I underscore that the '99 Champans will age gracefully for another 20 years, perhaps longer. Tasted twice in the last few months with similar results. In short,

Tactile and dense on entry, then creamy in the middle, conveying an impression of great volume without weight. This extremely backward, youthfully understated Clos firms up dramatically on the back end, finishing with palate-saturating citrus and talc flavors that refuse to fade. The medium-full flavors offer exceptional focus and such richness that this seems almost liqueur-like, all wrapped in a hugely long and mouth coating finish. As is typical of the Mugnier style that despite all the fireworks, this manages to remain discreet, harmonious and perfectly balanced. While there is plenty going on, this is not a particularly big Musigny yet it is superbly refined, classy and extremely pure. In short, this is class in a glass and this delivers knock out quality for the vintage. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Geantet-Pansiot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (94RP, (90-93BH), 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a rocky, thinly-soiled spot in the “true” Charmes (rather than the sometimes equally grand but distinctive Mazoyeres that can also be sold as “Charmes”), the Geantet-Pansiot 2005 Charmes Chambertin delivers a lovely meld of bright cherry, beef marrow, cocoa powder, and chalk. A typically sleek, polished, long-lined performance for this appellation at its best, this isn’t a wine with lots of nooks and crannies. There is a superb sweetness and clarity of finishing fruit along with a vibrant if hard to describe mineral note. However, both wines are enormously constituted, thick, rich, classic, old-style Chateauneuf du Papes the likes of which are rarely seen today. Anticipated maturity: now-2018. (RP)" (12/1996)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (OWC - 96WE, 95JS, 94WS, 91RP) in original wood. Wine Enthusiast: "Showing the serious side of Lafite, this is big and dark, powered by tannins as much as fruit. The wood aging is still showing, although that will integrate into the great structure that holds up the ripe black currant fruits. Totally dominated by some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in Bordeaux, this wine has strength while also having great freshness. Drink from 2024. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (05/2015)

Of the 1996 Domaine Hubert Lignier Morey St Denis 1er Cru Vielles Vignes,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Verging on dark-ruby-colored, it reveals rich blackberry, blueberry, earth, fresh herb, and stone aromas that are followed by a thick, dense, velvety-textured, chewy, and juicy personality. This concentrated, plump, firm (yet generous), deep, delineated, and full-bodied wine is surprisingly refined for a wine this structured and fat. Bid on this 2-magnum lot of 2007 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (1.5L) (94RP, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "De la Moriniere is always at pains to caution that his white “shuts down” for several years soon after bottling, but in that case I must have tasted his 2007 Corton-Charlemagne before that happened. Cooling herbal, restrained floral and bitter-sweet hints of black currant and citrus rind on the nose lead to a luscious tide of ripe yellow plum, white peach, lime, and grapefruit tinged with chalk, salt, and iodine. A silken texture in no way diminishes the impression of clarity and refreshment. Faintly honeyed and nut oil notes add a sense of richness and depth in a finish of utmost purity of refreshing fruit; clarity to mineral nuances; and vibratory energy. When one compares the 2006 side-by-side today, the latter does indeed show a more overt stoniness and – for all of its textural richness and additional amplitude – suffers slightly in comparis

2010 Angélus, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Angélus, St-Emilion (99JS, 99RP, 97WS, 95ST, 93DC). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is another magnificent wine. How much fun will it be to have the 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010 in future tastings to see which vintage comes out on top? They are all candidates that will flirt with perfection, depending on the state of their evolution. The 2010 has a similar color to the 2009, but is perhaps even more opaque, which seems almost impossible. Subtle barbecue smoke, graphite, blackberry liqueur, licorice and chocolate jump from the glass, and the wine hits the palate with a thunderous cascade of sweet, velvety, full-bodied, concentrated black fruits, nice definition from the tannins and decent acidity. The wine has a majestic, multilayered finish that goes on for a minute. This magnificent wine is still frightfully young and still somewhat unformed, but every bit as prodigious as its older sibling, the 2009. This will probably end up evolving on a slightly slower

The palate has good vibrancy and delineation with minerals, pear and a touch of hazelnut. Very good persistency on the finish . This is a very fine Puligny. (NM)" (12/1999)

There is fine concentration to the velvet textured medium weight flavors that possess plenty of dry extract that successfully buffers the otherwise very firm and moderately rustic tannins on the exceptionally long finish. Of the 2010 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cherbaudes" Vieille Vigne,Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Good bright red. Musk raspberry, black cherry and minerals on the lively nose and palate. Rich, sappy and saline, offering terrific chewy texture and concentration, not to mention energy in the mouth. Bid on this bottle of 1996 Joseph Drouhin Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "I have experienced some bottle variation over the past few years though to be fair none of them have been poor. The expressive, cool and attractively complex array of now largely mature secondary aromas (though no sous bois) complements detailed and delicious middle weight flavors that possess fine focus and reasonably good length on the moderately austere if attractively pure and complex finish. This offers grand cru complexity and class if not the usual mid-palate concentration and while it should continue to hold for several more decades, I don't foresee much additional upside development." 1990 Clerc-Milon, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Clerc-Milon, Pauillac (94RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 is a benchmark Clerc Milon that put all those years of hurt behind it. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, this is a very different blend to the 1986 due to vineyard acquisitions. It is almost a decade since the 1990 blew me away whilst dining at Mouton in my 'buying' days and by 2013 it has retained that wondrous bouquet of blackberry, kirsch, fresh mint and leather. Frankly speaking, you would not want to put Mouton ’90 anywhere near, to spare the First Growth’s blushes. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It has attractive structure and very impressive focus – layers of soy-tinged black fruit, hints of sandalwood and cloves with a suave, vigorous, classically styled finish. Superb! Suggestions of white truffle and iris waft ethereally throughout, while subtle suggestions of toasted nuts, iodine, clam liquor, and fruit pit add underlying, persistent piquancy. And for all of this wine’s energized and rarified nature, as well as its overt mineral character, it also evinces a subtle and winsome hint of creaminess. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A gorgeous and seductive mix of red Pinot, black raspberry raspberry, cool minerality and a touch of earth complements well the full, rich, deep, serious and intense flavors that manage to be simultaneously powerful and concentrated yet supple and delicious with near perfect balance. I really like the purity here and this is very Petits Monts in character, which is to say it resembles a mini-Richebourg. Recommended." (01/2008)

2011 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg Grand Cru
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg Grand Cru (95BH, 95VN, 94RP, 94ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is also intensely floral, in fact it may very well be the most floral wine in the range. Though it may not be quite as elegant as the Romanée St. Vivant it is arguably even more aromatically complex with a wonderfully fresh if restrained nose of hoisin, black fruit, soy and anise. There is remarkable concentration of dry extract that completely buffers the otherwise tightly wound tannic spine while pushing it to the background as the broad-shouldered flavors culminate in a balanced, long and velvety mineral-inflected finish that delivers astonishing persistence. While the Domaine's 2011s will in general drink well earlier than is typical, the Riche may be an exception to that generalization." (01/2014)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Domaine Roulot Meursault "Les Tillets" (95RP, 93ST, 92VN, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I loved this wine last year and I love it now! The 2011 Meursault Tillets is extremely well defined on the nose with wet limestone, dewy green apple and apricot blossom scents all intact. The palate is quite rich and open for Jean-Marc Roulot, but beautifully balanced with a succinct apricot and orange zest finish that is suffused with tension and offers great length. Wonderful. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Jean Grivot Richebourg Grand Cru (OWC - 97BH, 96ST, 96WS, 94RP) in original wood. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is also on the restrained side with a discreet nose that features a spicy, cool, ripe and elegant nose of primarily blue and black pinot fruit and wet stone nuances that continue onto the focused, powerful and substantial broad-shouldered flavors that possess superb mid-palate concentration and flat out amazing length. Grivot told me that the 2009 version of his Richebourg is the best that he has ever made and from my perspective, I agree as even the amazing 2005 did not show as well at the same point in its evolution. In a word, brilliant." (01/2012)

1966 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1966 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My God, this is a wonderful mature Lafite. Served blind chez Rosemary George MW it has a definable Pauillac nose with subtle notes of cedar, sous-bois and a touch of dried blood. It has incredible harmony and purity – a bouquet that has you instantly captivated. The palate does not disappoint: a beguiling sense of natural harmony and delineation, not the weight of Latour nor the femininity of Margaux, but a Lafite aiming for understated sophistication. Delicate cedar and cigar box towards the finish that just goes on and on. This bottle vindicates my first encounter in Bordeaux, when it similarly bewitched its audience. Absolutely sublime. A point. Tasted April 2008. (Neal Martin-Wine Journal)" (07/2008)

Decanter: "The 2006 brings back all the wonder of classic Comtes: the innocence of a joyful childhood, a free-as-air dash through endless blue daylight and a breathless plunge into an icy mountain rock pool. A wine of coiled energy, focus, precision and minerality that bores to the very core of the finest chalkfields of the Côte des Blancs. " (01/2016)

2005 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Vaucrains"
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Vaucrains" ((94-95RP), (91-94BH), (91-94ST), 93JG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Of all the Chevillon wines, their 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains -- like their Cailles and Les St.-Georges, from roughly 80-year-old vines -- displays the greatest density, stoniest minerality, most piquant nuttiness, and deepest, darkest, blackberry and beet root 'fruit' character. The overall impression is breath-taking in its sheer concentration, yet rather somber and brooding in personality, with an emphasis on piquancy, bitterness and stoniness. Toasted walnut and hickory, cherry pits, black chocolate, stones, and charred meat inform this wine’s powerful, penetrating finish. Were it not for a persistent primary blackberry juiciness and the great refinement of its abundant tannins, this would border on the hyper-concentrated. (DS)" (04/2007)

2011 Domaine Francois Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru "Les Grands Epenots"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Domaine Francois Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru "Les Grands Epenots" (91BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This remains quite fresh with its elegant, pure and broad-ranging nose of red currant, violets, plum and earth-suffused aromas. The energetic and relatively refined middle weight flavors are shaped by fine-grained tannins while offering excellent length on the balanced, delicious and complex finish. This attractively refined effort is still clearly on the way up but it's not so tight that it couldn't be enjoyed now if given 30 minutes in a decanter first. In a word, lovely." (04/2016)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Hudelot Noellat Romanee St. Vivant Grand Cru (95BH, (93-95ST), 93RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full medium red. Very closed but deep nose hints at wild raspberry. Large-scaled, rich and sweet, with terrific creamy depths even if it's not yet expressing itself. Boasts the greatest volume of these 2009s but still rather unformed. Best today on the very long finish, where ripe tannins are smothered in fruit. (ST)" (01/2011)

Here too there is a distinctly earthy and in this case slightly sauvage character to the pretty mélange of red and dark berry fruit aromas. The very forward, pliant and seductively textured medium weight flavors exude a fine minerality onto the more complex and harmonious finish. This is very Serpentières as it's really quite refined and fashioned such that it should drink well early on yet be capable of delivering 4 to 7 years of upside development." (04/2014)

Juicy, tightly wound and powerful, with brooding flavors of black fruits, minerals and mint. Quite different in style from the basic bottling, with a structural underpinning that's rare for the vintage. Finishes very long and firm, with strong flavors of dark berries and spices and somewhat austere but ripe tannins. Should prove to be long-lived in the context of the vintage. (ST) 93+" (01/2003)

On the palate however the concentrated and unctuous flavors offer notably better complexity with an underlying mineral streak that runs the length of the wine to the impressively long and utterly delicious finish. This possesses so much dry extract that it should be approachable young but age well too." (06/2013)

The wine is full-bodied, with a voluptuous texture a magnificent concentration and purity of fruit, a stunning finish of close to a minute, and wonderfully sweet, velvety tannins that make for a prodigious Angelus that should turn out to be one of the all-time greats ever made at this estate. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Vincent Dauvissat Chablis 1er Cru "Vaillons" (92RP, 91BH, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Dauvissat 2007 Chablis Vaillons leads with an aromatic combination of citrus oil, Mirabelle distillate, and honey that suggest a touch of noble botrytis. Honey-glazed, gingered lime, tangerine, pineapple, and yellow plum are lusciously allied on the palate with a sense of crushed stone and chalk I imagine straining through my teeth. Predictably, this is more adamant in its mineral character, more compact, and more overtly extract rich than the corresponding Sechet. But what it lacks in interplay or levity vis a vis that wine, it at least in part makes up for in layered density and sheer grip. (DS)" (12/2009)

Bid on this bottle of 2011 Domaine Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru "Montée de Tonnerre" (94VN, 91ST). Vinous: "The 2011 Chablis Montee de Tonnerre is all about grace. A gentle hint of spice leads to dried pears, crushed flowers, red berries and licorice. Constantly changing in the glass, the 2011 is a marvel to behold. Suggestions of smoke, graphite and licorice add layers of nuance in a magical wine loaded with class and personality. Best of all, the 2011 is relatively approachable by Raveneau standards, which means reader won't have to wait long at all to experience the magic of one of the great sites in Chablis. 2011 Domaine Maume Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Domaine Maume Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There I was suggesting that Maume's Mazis-Chambertin 2011 was clearly not the pick from the domaine this vintage and lo and behold, it trumps all in a blind tasting. It has quite an earthy note on the nose with mint-tinged red fruit and black plum unfurling at its own leisurely pace in the glass. Later, this is joined by fennel and rosemary scents, creating an intriguing aromatics profile. The palate is medium-bodied, a touch foursquare on the entry, but with good substance, the texture grainy and quite peppery toward the finish. There is a lot going on in this grand cru and it will be fascinating to see how it develops and if it maintains this stellar quality. (NM)" (11/2014)

Of the 2006 Alter Ego de Palmer, Margaux,Wine & Spirits writes: "This blend is selected to offer more immediate pleasure than the Palmer (recommended above), and it succeeds in 2006 with lovely fullness of Cabernet balanced by the rich textural nuance of Merlot. It's a succulent, black wine, with detailed scents of cherry, mushroom and meat. A polished Margaux to enjoy over the next five or six years, this would be delicious with a rosemary'd leg of lamb." Wine Enthusiast: "With its distinctive antique bottle and gold etched label dominated by a sheep, this is definitely a move away from classic Bordeaux bottling. It is good that the wine can support the presentation. The fruit is so ripe, it almost tastes of raisins, but that sweetness is finely balanced by the dry tannins and concentrated texture. To finish, there are exotic spices, giving an almost oriental character to the long aftertaste. (RV)" (06/2003)

1990 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (98RP, 98VN, 97JS, 97ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Cheval Blanc is fast becoming my favorite modern-day vintage of this Saint Emilion estate and perhaps the 1990 is now exiting the slip-steam of the feted 1982. This is unequivocally a brilliant wine. The nose holds nothing back, a line of senses all doing the conga towards your olfactory senses: macerated dark cherries, exotic kirsch-like aromas, leather, mahogany bureau, touches of crème de cassis and herbs all vie for attention. The palate is full-bodied and cloaked in a silky, velvety texture that leaves you a little ga-ga. There is so much fruit ram-packed into the bravura of a finish. Moreover, there's just so much joie-de-vivre and decadence in this wine, but it never seems overpowering or ostentatious. This bottle came from perfect provenance, as it was served blind by winemaker Pierre Lurton at a private dinner hosted by a mutual friend in Bordeaux.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for perfection with a few more years of bottle age, this great vintage of Angelus has an almost impenetrable black/purple color and a gorgeous nose of incense, graphite, blackberry liqueur, truffles and spring flowers. 1989 Lagrange, St-Julien
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1989 Lagrange, St-Julien (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This muscular, thick, unctuous, lavishly-oaked wine may cause raised eyebrows by those looking for something restrained and understated. There is no doubting the hedonistic appeal of this style of wine. The 1989 (the first bottle was corked) is a smoky, tar, cassis, roasted herb, jammy style of wine, with a dense purple color, sweet tannin, and low acidity. It is easy to drink, although the bouquet has not changed since I tasted it several years ago. The wine is soft and fat, but not flabby. It should drink well for 15+ years, probably developing more focus as well as a more classical profile. The 1989 Lagrange is a big, rich, boldly-flavored wine made in a California-like style. Deep, rich and beautifully layered in the glass, the Clos Solon is a great introduction to the vintage at Fourrier. The 2012 is silky, powerful and absolutely impeccable from start to finish. This is a serious wine that is clearly built for the very long haul yet there is a lovely and sophisticated mouth feel. 2002 Thierry-Allemand Cornas
Bid on this bottle of 2002 Thierry-Allemand Cornas. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium ruby-red. Black fruits, black pepper eau de vie, gunflint, cocoa powder and tapenade on the nose. Fairly dense but juicy, with flavors of licorice, black olive and fresh herbs nicely framed by edgy acidity. Offers accurate if cool syrah character, with the wine's slight greenness contributing freshness. A tad dry on the back. Allemand , who bottles his wines with very low levels of free sulfur, noted that Cornas had riper fruit at the time of the early September rains than most Saint-Joseph sites in 2002. He told me he was able to pick with reasonably ripe phenolics and decent grape sugars, and in his hillside vineyards there was less risk of rot. (ST)" (01/2005)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The white 2014 Clos de l'Échelier offers a clear, pure and smoky but also ripe and almost tropical fruit on the nose. On the palate, this is a very elegant, round and more fruity Chenin compared to the Clos Romans, but its freshness, purity and salinity is also lingering and gives tension as well as length. The wine needs some hours to open up and reveal its purity and freshness. Take this into account when you consider it too creamy and lactic in the first moments. 1992 Domaine Georges Roumier Chambolle Musigny
Bid on this bottle of 1992 Domaine Georges Roumier Chambolle Musigny. The Roumier story began when Georges Roumier married Genevieve Quanquin in 1924. When Georges Roumier died in 1965, his son Jean-Marie took over the wine-making. Eventually Christophe, Jean-Marie's son, took over and is the domaine's current winemaker. His focus is very much on the terroir, so new oak is used sparingly and the temperature of the ferment is kept low to allow for the delicacy and fragrance of the wine to shine through.

The wine is fat and rich, with layers of jammy fruit oozing from its full-bodied personality. (RP)" (12/1994)

The richness is in the texture, but the ripeness is in the open, generous fruit. (RV)" (03/2009)

1991 Domaine Robert Arnoux Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1991 Domaine Robert Arnoux Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Arnoux, the perennial over-cropper, saw nature cut back his yields to under 35 hectoliters per hectare, his smallest yields since 1978. The results are wines that are as stunning and opulent as his fine 1990s. These 1991s must be tasted to be believed. Do not avoid them because you lack confidence in the vintage. These are seductive, complex red burgundies. Nearly outstanding is the deep ruby-colored 1991 Clos de Vougeot. The big, perfumed nose of ripe cassis, vanillin, and smoke is followed by a lush, satiny-textured, voluptuously rich wine with gobs of jammy fruit, soft tannin, and a dazzling finish. It may merit an outstanding score after another six months in the bottle. Arnoux's 1991s are among the superstars of the vintage. (RP)" (12/1993)

Bid on this bottle of 1979 Domaine Michel Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru "Grands Épenots" (93BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Fairly heavy but not complete bricking. As is often the case with the best '79s the sous-bois, spice, earth and discreet game-trimmed aromas jump from the glass. The sleek and well-detailed medium-bodied flavors still possess good vibrancy before terminating in an utterly delicious, complex and well-balanced finale. With air one gets a sense that this is becoming fragile and while it should continue to hold, I would be inclined to drink this up. Tasted twice though the last time was 22 years ago." (02/2017)

1996 Frédéric Esmonin Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1996 Frédéric Esmonin Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru. Allen Meadows - Burghound: " This initially opened with a touch of reduction though it quickly (<5 minutes) blew off to reveal an attractive and fully mature mix of secondary dark berry fruit, dried truffle, earth and game aromas. There was equally good complexity to the delicious light to middle weight flavors that culminated in a linear and slightly edgy finish that avoided astringency though at the same time, there wasn't much richness either. In sum, this is pretty rather than deep and could be drunk now or held with no fear of it declining anytime soon; that said, I would not expect any further upside development either. Bid on this half-bottle lot of 1988 Francois Lamarche Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru "La Grande Rue" (375ml). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A fully mature nose now displays plenty of sous bois and subtle spice and earth notes that continue onto the rich and still vibrant medium full flavors that are rather firm if not tough but like a lot of '88s, this lacks charm and a bit of grace. This resembles the '90 in the sense that while it will endure for decades to come, it is past its sweet spot of maturity and risks drying out with extended aging." (04/2008)

1995 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne
Bid on this bottle of 1995 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne (97JS, 95W&S, 93ST, 92WE). James Suckling: " From the family collection, disgorged ten years after harvest, slightly lower than original dosage. Shows some malolactic honeyed character (rare in Cristal at 20-25%), a cool late September harvest with a poor set and high millerandage in the vineyard. This shows more dominant chardonnay on the nose with sweet honey and nougat, some dried lime citrus too, it also has an earthy side and some deep spice. The palate has almost cognac-like fruits, toasted brioche and raisin bread flavours, very assertive, concentrated, a liqueur-like Champagne that has a lot of potential and great length. Bid on this bottle of 2001 E. Guigal "La Doriane" Condrieu (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 10,000 bottles of the luxury cuvee, the 2001 Condrieu La Doriane. One of the appellation’s most distinctive and complex offerings, it offers up a fragrant perfume of incense, smoke, honeysuckle, and jammy white fruits. Unctuously-textured and full-bodied, with tremendous intensity, it should be drunk over the next 1-2 years, although past vintages have held up better in bottle than I predicted. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1996 Albert Morot Beaune 1er Cru "Bressandes" ((90-92RP), 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Often my favorite wine from Domaine Albert Morot, the medium-to-dark ruby-colored Beaune Bressandes was produced from old vines as well (3/4 of them are over 45 years old). Beguiling aromas of rich and deep black cherries awash in toasty oak are followed by a seductive, juicy, and hedonistic personality. This velvety wine's flavor profile is awash in thick layers of red cherries, sugar-coated raspberries, and candied currants. Its backbone is firmer and more structured than the Toussaints, which may be a blessing because without it consumers would want to suck down this beauty before it reached its peak. (PR)" (04/1998)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Captivating soil-driven nose offers stone fruits, flowers, chlorophyll, clove, medicinal herbs and warm stones. The palate offers lovely perfumed lift to the vibrant lemon and powdered stone flavors; magically light on its feet in spite of its underlying richness. 1982 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1982 Margaux, Margaux (97JS, 97RP, 97VN, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1982 Chateau Margaux is a wine that I have tasted many times, constantly contrasted against the 1983 to see which is better. Frankly I found that it depends on the bottle, although maybe the 1983 edges it. But it is important to assess the 1982 on its own individual merits because it is a superb First Growth. This was a great bottle: fragrant and beautifully defined on the nose that on this occasion offered a more conspicuous graphite scent, which lent it a Pauillac-like personality. Allowing the wine to open and aerate, the traits one associates with the property emerge—wilted violets and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and mineral-laden, that suggestion of candied orange peel on the entry segueing into layers of pure red and black fruit ... (NM)" (10/2016)

The supporting tannins are fully ripe and already completely integrated which contributes to the sense of harmony and overall balance. Lovely." (04/2012)

1986 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the château, the 1986 Cheval Blanc has a far superior bouquet to the 1996 Cheval Blanc when I tasted them side by side. The aromatics here are far more cohesive and complex, very delineated with expressive Cabernet Franc, hints of cooked meat, cranberry, juniper berries and wilted rose petals - just gorgeous. The palate is beautifully balanced with slightly furry tannin that is offset by a superb seam of acidity. It is nicely structured but not overbearing, leather and truffle filtering through the black fruit and while there is a little austerity on the finish, it is purely complementary. Though 1986 is not known as a Right Bank vintage, the 1986 Cheval Blanc pulled victory out of the bag and at 30 years, it continues to give immense pleasure (NM)." (12/2016)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion (99RP, 95ST, 94JS, 94WS, 92WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Inky, bluish/black/purple, with notes of spring flowers, licorice, camphor, graphite, and a boatload of blueberry, black raspberry and blackberry fruit, this is a powerful, full-bodied Troplong Mondot. All the building components of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol are judiciously and impressively integrated. It is a blend of 90% Merlot and the rest equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc made by Christine Valette and her husband Xavier Pariente with the consultancy help of Michel Rolland. I-m not sure what the heady alcohol level is in Troplong Mondot in 2010 (it certainly must be in the 15%+ range), but it is well-concealed behind the extravagant, richness, full-bodied power, and pure nobility of this majestic wine. Forget this for 5-7 years and drink it over the following three decades. An absolutely stunning wine from this estate, which seems to b
