French Wine

When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its regions, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and occasionally as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a 100 lives. To understand and appreciate French wine, you only need to begin tasting them. Check out some of the top picks that our buyers have tracked down - several of these wines are imported directly from France.

2000 Lagrange, St-Julien
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2000 Lagrange, St-Julien (93JS, 93RP, 93W&S, 93WS, 92ST). Wine Spectator: "This is a muscular red, rippling with bramble-edged tannins that push the dense core of blackberry, fig and boysenberry fruit paste flavors along. Juicy star anise notes and a swath of well-roasted apple wood add even more range on the finish, which is seriously long. Just ever so slightly woodsy in the end, but a terrific showing. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien (96JS, 96WE, 96WS, 95RP, 94ST). Wine Spectator: "Hello. Take textbook St.-Julien warmed fig, blueberry compote and blackberry reduction notes along with ample graphite, bramble and tobacco flavors, then dial it up a notch. This has terrific energy to offset the admirable depth and length, and hasn't even started a second phase yet. One of the stars of the vintage.—2000 Bordeaux blind retrospective (December 2015). Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Pommard 1er Cru "Jarollieres" ((91-93BH), 92ST, 91RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Sweet spot Outstanding* By contrast, here the intense, elegant, airy and almost startlingly fresh red berry fruit nose is expressive to the point of exuberance as the nose explodes from the glass with a flourish to reveal delicious, rich and full yet beautifully delineated and ultra pure flavors that are focused, linear and penetrating on the distinctly mineral-infused finish. This is a really lovely and sophisticated Pommard that bears more than a passing resemblance to its ‘across the border’ Volnay neighbor Frémiets." (04/2007)

2010 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Boudots"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Boudots". Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots has a thickly layered black fruit on the nose: mulberry and raspberry, perhaps just a touch of white flowers. The palate is sweet and very tannic on the entry with plenty of depth, but it lacks the finesse of the 2012 from barrel. However, it has the substance to suggest it will age well over the next decade. Drink now-2023. (NM)" (02/2014)

2010 Clos du Mont Olivet "Cuvée du Papet" Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Clos du Mont Olivet "Cuvée du Papet" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (99RP, 95ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Possibly the finest example of the Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Papet since Mont Olivet’s unreal 1990, the 2010 is a blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah, all aged in foudre. The grapes come from the estate’s oldest vines (50- to 105-years-old), which were planted in the famous sites of Mont Olivet and Bois Dauphin. A extraordinarily deep plum/purple color is followed by notes of balsam wood, raspberries, black currants, lavender, garrigue, kirsch, licorice and underbrush. This quintessential Chateauneuf du Pape smells like an open-air Provencal market. It is a full-bodied, full-throttle, multilayered wine with exceptional concentration, power and precision. While it can be approached now, it will not hit its prime for another 3-4 years, and should last for two decades given how well the 1990 continues to perform. One of the first

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Michel Magnien Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Sentiers" ((89-92BH), 90RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An exceptionally pretty nose that is quite elegant with its mélange of red pinot, blue berry and wet stone aromas that merge seamlessly into rich and relatively full-bodied flavors that possess good volume and a seductively textured mid-palate thanks to the abundance of dry extract that buffers the firmly tannic spine on the mildly austere finish. This is a classic Sentiers in the mode of a mini Bonnes Mares. " (01/2011)

2010 Frederic Magnien Vosne Romanee 1er Cru "Aux Champs Perdrix"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Frederic Magnien Vosne Romanee 1er Cru "Aux Champs Perdrix" ((89-92ST)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(from a high-altitude vineyard located above La Tache and La Grande Rue): Dark red with a ruby tinge. High-pitched aromas of black raspberry, cherry, violet and rose. At once creamy and sappy, with noteworthy savory energy and an utterly seamless texture. The long, slowly building finish features ripe tannins and lingering sweetness. I would not be surprised if this wine ultimately merited a score at the top end of my projected range. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is aromatically brooding and reserved with restrained and distinctly cool aromas of both red and dark currants that are liberally laced with earth, underbrush and subtle spice nuances. There is good concentration, at least in the context of the Raphet style, to the supple, round and ripe medium weight flavors that possess good concentration and fine length on the youthfully austere finish that is supported by fine-grained tannins." Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape (94RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The outstanding 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape (a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 7% Syrah, and 3% Cinsault that achieved 16.5% natural alcohol) exhibits a dark ruby/purple color in addition to a sumptuous bouquet of black fruits, scorched earth, lavender, truffles, and licorice. 2008 Domaine Didier Dagueneau "Pur Sang" Pouilly-Fumé
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine Didier Dagueneau "Pur Sang" Pouilly-Fumé (91RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Dagueneau 2008 Blanc Fume de Pouilly Pur Sang – ironically, given its name – is slightly less pure (or at least, less single-minded) than the vintage’s “regular” bottling. But this offers more than compensatory complexity and user-friendly richness. Sage, white grapefruit, lime zest, quince, and white currant haunt the nose and palate, with pungent herbal and zest impingements taking precedence over mineral manifestations, which are (as yet at least) subtle. There is a generosity of fruit here that sets up a lovely interaction with mouth-watering citrus, and for all of its density a wonderful levity. This should be fascinating to follow over the next 5-7 years. (DS)" (08/2010)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2003 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe "La Crau" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (94W&S, 93WS, 92RP, 92WE). Wine & Spirits: "From the Plateau de la Crau in the southeast portion of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Bruniers produce this wine from vines averaging 50 years of age. The brooding, densely ripe 2003 feels richer and bigger than the 2001 or 1998, yet the weight is perfectly supported by its tannic structure. Velvety flavors of blackberry, black cherry, chocolate and clove are gripping and focused. As lovely as this is now, it will be even more expressive with another five years in the cellar." Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2003 Domaine du Vieux Lazaret "Cuvee Exceptionelle" Châteauneuf-du-Pape ((92-94RP), 91ST, 91WS). 92-94 points Robert Parker: "The 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Exceptionnelle may be the finest wine Quiot has yet produced. This deep, profoundly concentrated effort boasts a dense ruby/purple-tinged color as well as a gorgeous perfume of raspberry and cherry liqueur intermixed with notions of licorice, flowers, and spice. Full-bodied and unctuously-textured, with high levels of glycerin and alcohol as well as tremendous purity, this is a terrific, full-throttle, palate-staining, impeccably well-balanced Chateauneuf du Pape that can be drunk in 2-3 years, or cellared for 12-15." (12/04) 91 points Wine Spectator. 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jan/Feb 06: "Medium ruby color. 1996 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac (93RP, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is unquestionably a profound Grand-Puy-Lacoste, but it is excruciatingly backward. It reveals an essence of creme de cassis character which sets it apart from other Pauillacs. The wine is displaying plenty of tannin, huge body, and sweet black currant fruit intermixed with minerals and subtle oak. Massive, extremely structured, and with 25-30 or more years of longevity, this immensely-styled Grand-Puy-Lacoste will require 7-8 years of patience, perhaps longer. A superb, classic Pauillac. 2003 Hospices de Beaune (Jadot) Corton Grand Cru "Cuvée Docteur Peste"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Hospices de Beaune (Jadot) Corton Grand Cru "Cuvée Docteur Peste". The hospices is a beautiful medieval structure in the center of Beaune. It is also a hospital, which was founded in the 15th century. Over the years, devout Burgundians have willed bits of their vineyards to the hospices' charitable organization. The hospices then raise money by selling the wines made from its vineyards at auction and generally shares the profits with other charities. The hospices blends wines from several vineyards in the same village and gives the resulting cuvee the name of a significant benefactor, like the oddly named Docteur Peste, a historical figure and physician at the hospices. These wines are collectible, to be sure, and are made by top domaines--like this from the venerable house of Louis Jadot.

Classic and textbook in style, with ample cured meats, earth, herbs and mature currant and blackberry fruit, it flows onto the palate with full-bodied richness, a gorgeous texture and serious length. It’s drinking beautifully now, but will continue to shine through 2021. (JD)" (08/2014)

Enjoyable now, it will age well for 8 years. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. I was impressed with Robert Groffier's 1995s. They displayed good ripeness, concentration and structure. It is the first vintage where his wines will not be subjected to either a fining or filtration. The wine exhibits an awesome nose of powerfully ripe fruit laced with mineral notes. The wine's density, amazing body, and massive intensity and richness, never come across as over-done or ponderous. Bid on this bottle of 2000 Branon, Pessac-Léognan (97RP, 92ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Everyone at the tasting where this wine was presented was rocked (or should I say shocked) by the greatness of this wine. It needs no defense. I rated it 96 seven years ago, and it comes from a beautiful vineyard in Pessac-Leognan near Haut-Bergey. Made by Helene Garcin and her winemaking team at the time, Michel Rolland and Jean-Luc Thunevin (now replaced by Dr. Alain Raynaud), 650 cases of this wine were produced. It has a deep, opaque bluish/purple color and a gorgeously sweet nose of incense, asphalt, blueberry liqueur, coffee, bacon fat, and a hint of meat juices. 2000 La Conseillante, Pomerol
Bid on this bottle of 2000 La Conseillante, Pomerol (96RP, 95WS, 92JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "La Conseillante made an excellent wine in 2001, another great one in 2005, and the estate hit home runs in both 2008 and, above all, in 2009. In fact, the latter vintage may well end up being the modern-day reference point for La Conseillante. Nevertheless, there’s a lot to be said for this 2000. An elegant, gentle style that is never a blockbuster, the 2000 La Conseillante has a deep ruby/plum/purple color and an unbelievably expressive nose of sweet kirsch liqueur intermixed with raspberries, incense, toast, and licorice. Full-bodied yet ethereal in the sense that it seems to combine power along with eloquence and delicacy, this is a beautifully pure wine that has just hit its plateau of full maturity, although ideally I think it would benefit strongly from another 4-5 years of bottle age and drink well for two to three decades. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Arlaud Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Ruchots" (91BH, (90-91RP), 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From under the Clos de Tart and the tiny Morey sliver of Bonnes Mares, a 2005 Morey-St.-Denis Les Ruchots (aged in 40% new wood and recently assembled) had already been racked twice when I tasted, due to previous reduction. A good shaking was once again in order, at which point candied maraschino cherry and cinnamon candy aromas and flavors emerge. Intensely sweet red and black cherry accompanied by brown spices and hints of wood on a finely-tannic palate would not seem at all out of place in the New World. The finish is certainly flamboyantly fruity, penetrating, and pure, with the tannins quite well covered-over. (DS)" (04/2007)

A stunningly opulent wine with a dense purple color, the 2005 possesses a beautiful perfume of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, creosote, and graphite, full body, silky but noticeable tannins, a layered mouthfeel, and a stunning, 45+-second finish. Highly complex, very ripe aromas of musky redcurrant, minerals, tobacco, lavender, spices and dried flowers. Sweet and concentrated, with superb volume and strong soil tones to the flavors of red berries, brown spices and dried flowers. Finishes very long, with sophisticated tannins. This represents Fred Magnien's experiment with vendange entier: he kept only the millerande clusters and simply dumped them in the vat. And he told me he doesn't like the results! Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Based primarily on fruit from a relatively clay-rich site in Saint Laurent, the Dagueneau 2009 Blanc Fume de Pouilly Pur Sang smells deliciously of elder flower white peach, and cassis. Vividly peachy and with rock-licking minerality, in the mouth this could be mistaken for a great Riesling. Nettle and grapefruit lend brightness in a long, luscious, vibrant finish that also incorporates rich, saline oyster liqueur and oyster meat-like elements. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Paul Autard "La Côte Ronde" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (94RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee La Cote Ronde is undeniably the best wine Autard has made since the 1998 rendition of this cuvee. This got a big 'Wow!' when I smelled it. A stunning nose of black truffles, melted licorice, blackberries, and sweet cherries is followed by a multi-dimensional, multi-layered, full-bodied wine with tremendous power, richness, and a hint of barrique. Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 1998 Micalet Reserve Cru Artisan, Haut-Médoc. Chateau Micalet enjoys a rich history in Bordeaux and is led today by Damien and Dominique Fédieu. From the producer: "The first appearance of 'Cru Micalet' dates back to the 1893 edition of Édouard Féret’s Bordeaux et ses vins. In this classic tome, it was classified as a Cru Artisan. Its first owner, Jean Péraud, was pastry baker who became an occasional farmer, working the vines located around the commune of Lamarque. The excellence of Cru Micalet had been recognized by 1900 when it received the medal of honor from the city of Paris for its 1887 and 1899 vintages. Péraud’s daughter, Madeleine, transferred her property to Denis Fédieu upon her death in 1972. Denis & his wife AnneMarie painstakingly renovated the vineyard, replanting new vines when necessary, and—in a sensible yet trailblazing move—adopted only those modern farming practices that serve to enhance organic viticulture, restore the ecosystem, and r

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A 2005 Savigny-les-Beaune Les Narbantons -- consistent with the nature of this site -- is both the most structured but also the most filled-out of Guillemot offerings, and an outstanding value, not least in view of its likelihood to reward 7-12 years in the cellar and hold for much longer. While the wine’s color in the glass is a delicate ruby, aromas and flavors surprise with their forceful intensity. This contrast often catches the uninitiated off guard, yet it is part of the attraction and seduction of these limited and highly sought-after wines. Indeed of all our Burgundy partners, Raphet inspires the most emotion when trying to describe what exactly makes these wines so captivating. Raphet Burgundy surprises and delights; it opens the possibilities of what great, old-vine Burgundy can do, and just how intimate and special that experience can be. Gérard took over the domaine in 2005 with his wife Sylviane, and today, it’s their daughter Virginie who helps out in the cellar and fields. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Domaine des Tilleuls (Philippe Livera) Gevrey-Chambertin "Champs Perriers" Reserve Vieilles Vignes. From the importer: "The key to discovering the extraordinary diversity of Gevrey-Chambertin is found in the cellars of Domaine des Tilleuls. These are wines that are both striking in their fidelity to the Livera family’s exemplary terroir and memorable for their uncanny ability to translate Gevrey’s earthy seduction to the glass. Winemaker Damien Livera since he took over the estate in the late 2000s has effected a sea change in how the family’s vines are cared for, pushing for lower yields and healthier, more balanced fruit—and the quality of his wines has certainly followed suit. Vineyards are cared for according to 'lutte raisonée' principles, which includes plowing the soils (no herbicides) and using indigenous yeasts in the cellar. A majority of the estate’s older Pinot Noir vines were planted in the 1950s and 1960s. ‘En Champs’ sits at the border wi

2005 Micalet Reserve Cru Artisan, Haut-Médoc
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Micalet Reserve Cru Artisan, Haut-Médoc.

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2007 Daniel Bocquenet Nuits-Saint-Georges "Aux Saint Julien". Allen Meadows shares his thoughts on the 2007 vintage: "The enormously talented Daniel Bocquenet told me that 2007 was a 'pleasant surprise as I was sure that we were going to wind up with really poor raw materials. It seemed as though maturities were making no progress at all during the summer and as soon as the lousy weather turned in August, maturities exploded. We began picking on September 1st and even though the fruit wasn't as ripe as it was in 2006, we still obtained sugars that ranged between 12 and 12.5% so I was actually quite happy. The phenolics were reasonably ripe as well and I saw no reason to baby the vinification so I did as I do normally. Overall, 2007 produced classic burgundies that should drink well both early and late.'"

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the château, the 1986 Lafite-Rothschild continues to offer an exquisite bouquet at 30 years of age. This is beautifully defined, still full of energy, with copious blackberry, clove, leather and graphite aromas that seem to gain momentum in the glass. The palate is extremely well balanced with a crystalline quality, filigree tannin, perfectly pitched acidity, a quintessential Lafite-Rothschild with a sense of energy and focus undiminished by time. This finish displays immense purity and refinement, one of the most mineral-driven Lafites that I have encountered, whilst the aftertaste seems to linger for over one minute. Dense purple in color, with loads of coffee, mocha, creme de cassis, and chocolate notes, this is a somewhat unusual blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and a whooping 10% Petit Verdot, with a little bit of Cabernet Franc. 1999 Cheval Blanc, St-Émilion
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 Cheval Blanc, St-Émilion (93RP, 92ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The complex, explosively fragrant 1999 Cheval Blanc is a blend of 59% Merlot and 41% Cabernet Franc. It is already showing well, which is a good sign for a wine that traditionally is reserved early in life, but puts on weight and richness in the bottle. Stylistically, this wine is probably cut from the same mold as vintages such as 1985, 1966, and 1962. The color is a dense ruby with purple nuances. Once past the blockbuster bouquet of menthol, leather, black fruits, licorice, and mocha, the wine reveals medium body, extraordinary elegance, purity, and sweet, harmonious flavors with no hard edges. This is a seamless beauty of finesse, charm, and concentration. The 1999 is an exciting Cheval Blanc to drink relatively young. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2022. (RP)" (04/2002)

John Gilman: "The queen in the cellar is pure magic in 2007, as the Laguiche Montrachet in this vintage is clearly destined to take its place amongst the greatest vintages ever produced of this consistently excellent wine. Having just drunk a bottle of the 1985 Laguiche a few nights prior to writing this report, I very much look forward to tasting the profound 2007 at a similar stage of development. The bouquet is deep, very pure and simply profound, as it soars from the glass in a blaze of lemon, pear, acacia, very complex, chalky soil tones, apple blossoms, a hint of fresh nutmeg and a beautiful, discreet base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very intensely flavored, with great mid-palate presence, crisp, perfectly integrated acids, stunning focus and breed and a magically long, ethereally elegant and transparent finish. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Didier Dagueneau "Pur Sang" Pouilly-Fumé ((92-93RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Musky, faintly fusil, smoky, and pungent citrus oil aromas introduce the Dagueneau 2010 Blanc Fume de Pouilly Pur Sang, all of which have their piquant tactile and flavor counterparts on a dense but bright palate. Maritime saline and alkaline notes stimulate the salivary glands; nut oils add deep richness to a juicy matrix of grapefruit and lemon; while chalk, stone, and smoky black tea serve inform a dynamic interplay that lingers long and deliciously. This is one of those Dagueneau wines that display a hint of spice and sweetness borne of oak, but this is well-integrated into the superbly complex whole that is this outstanding (immediately pre-bottling) performance. 2009 Gerard Raphet Clos-Vougeot Grand Cru "Vieilles Vignes, Cuvée Unique"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Gerard Raphet Clos-Vougeot Grand Cru "Vieilles Vignes, Cuvée Unique". The 2009 vintage was exceptional in 2009, and the wines from Domaine Gerard Raphet are elegant and effortless from this vintage. The wine comes from a small cluster 100-plus-year-old vines in the southern corner of the Grand Cru Clos Vougeot. This is a rare find, as the wine is made in miniscule quantites.

2009 Domaine Gerard Raphet Chambolle-Musigny "Bussieres" Cuvée Unique
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Gerard Raphet Chambolle-Musigny "Bussieres" Cuvée Unique. About the domaine: "The wines of Gérard Raphet are a Burgundy lover’s Burgundy. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "With a hard act to follow, the 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Le Clos du Caillou showed beautifully and gave up complex spice-box, peppery herbs, game and tobacco-leaf-like aromas and flavors. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(still on its lees in the barrel) Perfumed aromas of lime, powdered stone and brown spices. Very pure and vigorous, with strong acidity framing the lime and saline flavors. This penetrating, soil-driven wine is showy already but has the spine for a slow and eventful evolution in bottle. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine Pierre Guillemot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Serpentieres" (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the Guillemots’ oldest vines (85 years), a 2008 Savigny-les-Beaune Les Serpentieres leads with high-toned kirsch, herbal essences, vanilla, and red currant. Lean and bright, with fine-grained tannins and pursuing fresh red fruits, spice, and chalky, salty, peaty, minerality, rather than tracking animal scents in the manner beloved of most Savignys, this penetrates like a light saber and exhilarates the palate, finishing with long, Riesling-like call and response of bright fruit and mineral. It should be worth following for more than a dozen years ... (DS)" (06/2010)

Ripe blackcurrant aromas and flavors are lifted by pungent graphite, cedar and mineral notes. Balanced, pure and smooth in the mouth, with excellent perfume and precision. Wonderfully suave on entry, then rich, ripe, dry and sharply delineated, showing outstanding refinement and aristocratic reserve to its spicy red and blue fruit flavors. Perhaps the magnum format played its part, but nevertheless...just...wow. This is a millennial Left Bank with the keys to the top drawer. It has an incredibly precise, mineral-driven bouquet with intense black fruit infused with cedar and graphite scents. It just reeks of Pauillac in an almost uncompromising, yet compelling manner. The palate is structured, stylish and effortless, extraordinarily pure and unerringly youthful. This is a Pichon Baron saying, "You ain't seen nothing yet." It veers more towards the carefree, zesty fruit profile with orange blossom and fresh apricot infusing the pure red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit. This is feminine and nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a very pure, structured entry, a fine line of acidity and wonderful tension towards the finish. Of the 1998 Domaine Anne Gros Chambolle-Musigny "Combe d'Orveau",As with all of Anne Gros' wines, the Chambolle is a lovely example reflecting its terroir. It is from a small vineyard that lies immediately adjacent to Echezeaux, and just south of Petits Musigny. As you would expect from the best of Chambolle, it is elegant, balanced and complex. 2010 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (99RP, 98WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape flirts with perfection. A classic blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and the rest Syrah, Vaccarese and Counoise, all aged in large foudres in Clos des Papes's air-conditioned and humidity-controlled wine cellar, the wine boasts a dense purple color along with lots of gorgeously pure black raspberry, black currant and kirsch liqueur notes intermixed with notions of spring flowers, tapenade, licorice and spice box. This dense, full-bodied, powerful Chateauneuf is also remarkably fresh and well-delineated. It even exceeded the 2007 in natural alcohol, coming in at 15.9%. With an extraordinary texture and considerable tannin in the finish, it will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age, and is built for 25-30 years of cellaring. Don't miss it! This admirably run estate has essentially been practicing biodynamic farming for nearly 15 years, but they

2010 E. Guigal "Château d'Ampuis" Côte-Rotie
Bid on this bottle of 2010 E. Guigal "Château d'Ampuis" Côte-Rotie (99RP, 97WS, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More closed than when I tasted it earlier this year, the 2010 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis is an incredible effort that’s made from 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier. Coming from the estate’s top sites and aged 38 months in new oak, it has no problem standing beside the top three single-vineyard releases. Crème de cassis, vanilla bean, smoked meats and licorice all flow to a full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, structured Cote Rotie that needs another 5-6 years of bottle age, but will keep for 2-3 decades. 2007 J. Boutin "Bonnevaux" Côte-Rôtie (Stéphane Vedeau)
Bid on this bottle of 2007 J. Boutin "Bonnevaux" Côte-Rôtie (Stéphane Vedeau). In addition to his vinous projects in and around Chateauneuf-du-Pape, rising star Stéphane Vedeau also owns several choice vineyard spots in the northern Rhône. With low yielding vines, many more than 40+ years, he is able to craft intense, yet elegant syrah that he has named after his mother, Jeannine Boutin. The 2007 "Bonnevaux" Côte-Rôtie is composed of 88% syrah and 12% viognier from 60 year old vines grown on siliceous chalky soils of gneiss and loess. The grapes are manually harvested in small baskets in two passes in order to obtain both an earlier and latter ripeness level. Maturation takes place over 18 months in 300L Tronçais oak barrels. 13.5% abv.

Tight nose hints at currant and smoky oak. Highly concentrated, densely packed and built to age. As young as it is, it also shows a lovely velvety texture rare for this vintage. Finishes with terrific breadth, subtle minerality and noble tannins. I've been a fan of this wine since the outset." (06/2005)

1990 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Margaux, Margaux (100RP, 98ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Chateau Margaux has turned into a sensational wine that eclipses both the 1988 and 1989...and then some. It has a gorgeous, ethereal bouquet with sumptuous red berry fruit, leather, camphor and licorice—it is the kind of nose in which you just immerse yourself. Is there a hint of brettanomyces here? If there is, I don't really care. The palate is soft and sensual with incredible depth. Fleshy and corpulent for Chateau Margaux, and yet surfeit with breeding and finesse, there are layers or red fruit, kirsch, sage and fig, later tobacco and cloves. I feel that this 1990 Château Margaux is at its peak and yet the harmony, the sheer swagger of this wine just wins you over. Magnificent. Tasted May 2016. (NM)" (10/2016)

1982 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (97RP, 96JS, 96VN, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a denser version of the 1990 that stylistically reminds me of what the young 1959 probably tasted like. Still backward with a deep ruby/plum color revealing only a touch of lightening at the edge, the wine offers up an extraordinary nose of caramelized herbs, smoke, cedar, pen ink, black currants, and earth. The gorgeous aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, plump, rich, fleshy wine with low acidity. With 6-8 hours decanting in a closed decanter, it will offer beautiful drinking, but it needs another 5-8 years to reach full maturity. It is capable of lasting 50-60 years. 97+ Points (RP)" (06/2009)

This intense, voluptuously textured, full-bodied St.-Julien possesses low acidity and ripe tannin. It is followed by an enormously concentrated wine of full body, layers of concentration and sweet tannin. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2010 Raymond Usseglio "Cuvée Impériale - Vignes Centenaires" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (99RP, 94ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for perfection, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Imperiale Vignes Centenaire is clearly the greatest wine I have ever tasted from Raymond Usseglio, even eclipsing their remarkable 2007. Don’t be surprised if it merits a three-digit score in five or six years. Somewhat closed, but bursting with potential, the wine is inky/purple to the rim and boasts abundant amounts of concentrated, jammy blackberry, kirsch, licorice, lavender, forest floor, white chocolate and a hint of truffles in its magnificent perfume. Grand Cru (Magnum) emerges from old vines in Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay. Powerful, ample and creamy, the VP possesses tremendous depth and richness. Vinification and aging in oak brings out the pure intensity of this fruit, something that 82 months on the lees draws out even further. A host of dried pear, smoke, menthol and spice build into the ample, expressive finish. This release is 60% 2008 and 40% 2006, two vintages that are naturally quite complementary. The youngest release blends 40% of vintage 2008 with 60% of 2009. The wine starts very intense on the nose and intertwines pineapple aromas with new oak flavors. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Domaine Billaud-Simon Chablis Grand Cru "Vaudesir" (93ST, 92RP, 92VN). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(Bernard Billaud began aging this wine in 100% used futs as of vintage 2011): Pale yellow. Musky aromas of mirabelle, toasted brioche, lemon, rose petal and spices. Densely packed and youthfully closed, even austere, but hints at lovely high notes of jasmine and fleur de sel. Very unforthcoming on the spicy back end and in need of seven or eight years in the cellar. But long on potential. (I tasted a bottle of the 2007 Vaudesir, done entire in cuve, and was seduced by its saline, sake-like aromas and silky texture. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1997 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape ((89-91RP), 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Yields for the 1997 Chateauneuf du Pape were tiny, averaging 22 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine is one of the most seductive and forward young Beaucastels I have tasted since the 1985. The blend was 35% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache, 10% Counoise, 5% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, and the rest other southern Rhone varietals. The deep ruby color is accompanied by forward, attractive aromatics consisting of black raspberries, cherries, licorice, floral, and herb scents. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Didier Dagueneau "Silex" Pouilly-Fumé ((93-94RP), 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A pungent suggestion of diverse hedge flowers and high-toned herbs rises from the glass of Dagueneau 2010 Blanc Fume de Pouilly Silex; then migrates to a palate dominated by succulent grapefruit, white peach, and cassis. Breadth, opulence, sheer extract, a silken texture, and high glycerin, all seem to enhance this Sauvignon’s sense of sweet ripeness, though citrus zest and berry skin lend satisfying counterpoint. There is resonance and depth to the finish here, and if for now not quite the dazzling complexity of the corresponding Sancerre Monts Damnes, then certainly a compelling performance that promises to be worth revisiting over the next dozen or more years. Of the 1993 Zind-Humbrecht Clos Windsbuhl Pinot Gris Alsace,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "One of the great wines among the impressive 1993 line-up is the 1993 Tokay Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl. This is one of the few Tokays where no botrytis formed because of this vineyard's cool climate and well-drained soils. The wine puts on an amazing demonstration of power and finesse, with layers of opulently rich, creamy, honeyed fruit, fine acidity, and a dry, whoppingly long finish that lasts nearly a minute. When tasting this wine, I thought it to be extremely unevolved and youthful, with at least 10-15 years of aging potential. Its purity is something to behold. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien (91RP, 90WS). The aromatics are beginning to emerge from just pure fruit-driven notes to secondary characteristics. Sweet earth, truffle, black currant, underbrush, and licorice emerge with coaxing. In the mouth, the wine is powerful, dense, with high tannin., impressive concentration, and a formidable, sort of old-style personality. The best 1986 Medocs are terrific wines, but have never been wines that show a lot of charm. Like so many of its siblings from the Medoc, one admires the wines more than actually enjoys them,. Bid on this bottle of 2012 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti Grand Cru (99RP, 98BH, 98VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Usually, choosing between La Tâche and Romanée-Conti is like choosing between your two favourite children. Not this year. The 2012 Romanée-Conti is one of the most spellbinding that I have tasted since I began 17 years ago. The bouquet is quite astonishing with brilliant delineation and focus, an almost disorientating sense of mineralité that soars from the glass and leaves you speechless. The palate is perfectly proportioned with a sensational line of acidity, brimming over with energy and frisson. This flirts with perfection and you know, one day it might actually achieve it. Just 350 cases produced. (NM)" (02/2015)

2004 Pavillon Blanc, Margaux
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Pavillon Blanc, Margaux ((92-94ST), 93RP, 93WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Extremely fresh, deep nose combines quinine, ginger, minerals and citrus fruits, with white peach and honey notes that suggest viognier (I could not possibly have guessed that this wine was entirely from sauvignon blanc). Rich, honeyed and powerful, with superb fat and depth of flavor. Notes of peach, citrus fruit, hay and honeydew melon. Pontallier says this may be Margaux's best Pavillon Blanc ever, and I certainly can't recall a more promising vintage. (ST)" (06/2005)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Bouchard Pere et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (OWC - 96BH, 96ST, (94-95RP)) in original wood. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Highly complex but reticent nose combines citrus peel, wet stone and spices. Silky on entry, then wonderfully dense and ripe but classically dry in the middle, with outstanding sap and energy to the lemon, stone and violet flavors. As generous and expressive as this is now in the middle palate, it also has terrific spine for aging. Bouchard's Corton-Charlemagne has consistently been one of my favorite white Burgundies in recent vintages, and it's a relative value compared to grand crus from the Montrachet neighborhood. 96+ Points (ST)" (10/2008)

1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (95JS, 95RP, 95VN, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is 'great stuff,' with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild. (RP)" (02/1998)

"Sweet Spot Outstanding" from Allen Meadows and 90-93 points: "A green fruit, lemon zest and wet stone suffused nose precedes energetic, intense and beautifully delineated middle weight flavors brimming with a fine minerality on the driving finish that is supported by a firm acid spine. I very much like this as there is a lovely sense of both tension and finesse that contribute to the near perfect balance." (Tasted: Jun 01, 2010)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Angélus, St-Emilion (99RP, 96WS, 95JS, 95W&S, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Approaching perfection, this wine is inky, bluish/purple-colored to the rim, offering up notes of incense, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, licorice, graphite and spring flowers. A touch of roasted espresso bean is also present. The wine has great concentration, a magnificent, full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity, and well-integrated acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood. 2004 Domaine J-M Boillot Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine J-M Boillot Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (93ST). Stephen Tanzer: "Sexy, expressive, high-pitched aromas of pineapple, minerals and vanillin oak. Dense and chewy yet at the same time juicy and delicate, offering a tight core of spicy pineapple and stone fruit flavors. Offers lovely thrust and verve without coming across as aggressive. Shapely and gripping on the back end. Like the Truffiere, this dry, classic Batard needs a good four or five years of cellaring." (Sep/Oct 2006) Allen Meadows' Burghound.com: "Jean-Marc Boillot's daughter, Lydie, described 2004 as 'challenging' because of moderate hail damage and the need to be especially vigilant due to the risk of oidium. The quality of the Boillot '04s is better than what I've seen in several recent vintages and if this progress continues, the wines may return to the excellence seen up to and including the 1994 vintage." The expressive and almost fully mature nose offers up notably ripe aromas of dried apricots, peach and pear with lovely floral and spice aromas, all of which are trimmed in noticeable oak that is somewhat surprising as there was no overt wood character when I last tried this. There is impressive power and solid if not exceptional concentration to the full-bodied flavors that coat the mouth with dry extract before culminating in a balanced and wonderfully persistent finish. For my taste this is knocking on the door of being fully ready for prime time drinking though I would suggest holding it for another year or two. That said, it wouldn't be a crime to open one now. In sum, this is a lovely if not truly stunning Montrachet. Drink: Try from 2014+" (02/2013)

1985 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (93RP, 90ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the château, the 1985 Lafite-Rothschild was the best example of this wine that I have tasted a dozen or so times. It has a beautiful nose that is just classic Lafite. It is still fresh yet understated, stately even, with tobacco and cedar-tinged red berry fruit. It is not a powerful bouquet, but there is something...magnetic about it. The palate is still youthful with fine tannin, like the nose, understated yet very well balanced. The acidity here is perfectly judged with an almost nonchalant finish. You almost miss its virtues - it is just so self-effacing and insouciant. Just a really lovely Lafite-Rothschild at the peak of its powers. Tasted March 2016. (NM)" (07/2016)

1959 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1959 Latour, Pauillac (99JG, 98WS, 96RP). John Gilman: "This is a great, great vintage of Latour from an era where the estate was at the absolute top of its game and made one of Bordeaux’s best wines year in and year out, with a track record of consistent excellence that no other First Growth could match. Given the longevity of Latour in this era, it is not surprising that the 1959 is still a tad on the young side at age fifty-eight and takes some extended time in decanter to fully blossom, but once it has opened up, its brilliance is very easy to see. The bouquet is complex, ripe and beautiful, offering up scents of black cherries, cassis, sweet cigar wrapper, a very complex base of soil, tobacco smoke and a nice touch of Latour nuttiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and powerful, with a rock solid core of plush fruit, great focus and grip, really impressive acidity for the ripe ’59 vintage and a very, very long, complex and

Bid on this bottle of 1945 Haut-Brion, Graves (100RP, 98VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted 5 Times With Consistent Notes. The 1945 Haut-Brion is profound. It demonstrates the essence of Haut-Brion's style. The color remains a healthy, opaque garnet with only slight amber at the edge. A huge, penetrating bouquet of sweet black fruits, smoked nuts, tobacco, and tar soars from the glass. The wine possesses extraordinary density and extraction of fruit, massive, full-bodied, unctuously-textured flavors that reveal little tannin, and copious quantities of glycerin and alcohol. It is a fabulously rich, monumental example of a fully mature Haut-Brion that exhibits no signs of decline. Awesome! (RP)" (10/1994)

2000 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 2000 Margaux, Margaux (100JS, 100RP, 98ST, 98W&S, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Absolutely compelling in two tastings of this vintage, the 2000 Margaux is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The extraordinary seductiveness, complex aromatics, and purity it exhibits lead me to believe it has reached its window of full maturity. Medium-bodied, with layers of concentration, stunning blue, red, and black fruits intermixed with spring flowers, a subtle dosage of new oak, and a distinctive personality that is elegant while at the same time powerful and substantial, this is a multi-dimensional wine that was extremely approachable and drinkable in both tastings I had of it. The color remains a healthy, even opaque bluish/purple, but there is no reason to hesitate to drink it. It should evolve for another 30-40 years, so there is no hurry either. (RP)" (06/2010)

Still inky/blue/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a gorgeously sweet, pure nose of creme de cassis, spring flowers, and a hint of wet rocks. The wine is full-bodied, plush, and expansive with impressive levels of glycerin and purity as well as an endearing texture. The nose is more complex and penetrating than the flavors. The wine offers classic, mineral, lead pencil, smoky, earthy scents, with plenty of ripe fruit, and none of the vegetal herbaceousness that many 1978s have begun to exhibit. The attack offers good ripeness, medium to full body, higher acidity than many more recent vintages, and considerable tannin in the hard finish. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (98RP, 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The newest special cuvee (introduced in 2006) is the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (50% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre, and 10% Syrah). Made from 50- to 100+-year-old vines and aged 18 months in small oak barrels, it is potentially one of the longest lived wines of the vintage. This exquisite, dense purple-colored effort reveals intense but restrained notes of cassis, kirsch, lavender, licorice, and graphite. A wine of great intensity as well as remarkable finesse and elegance, is a full-bodied Chateauneuf that will require plenty of patience. (RP)" (10/2009)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Referts" (92RP, 91BH, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Puligny Montrachet Les Referts (from 50+ year-old vines) is round, sweet and impeccably harmonious. It shows the influence of these compact soils in its plush fruit and extroverted, generous personality. I especially like the way the fruit continues to build toward the round, enveloping finish. This parcel is right next to the estate’s parcel in Perrieres, yet the wines are strikingly different owing to the greater presence of clay and the moisture-retentive soils. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. (AG)" (08/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac (96RP, 93JS, 93WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dense purple, with classic notes of cedar and lead pencil shavings as well as gobs of back currants and licorice, the wine has a full-bodied mouthfeel with fabulous precision and density. It also possesses a long, silky finish with moderately high tannins, but they are ripe and well-integrated. The wood is clearly pushed to the background in this dense, full-bodied Pauillac, which should drink beautifully for 30+ years. (RP)" (02/2013)

It changes all the time from flowers to fruit and wet earth. Full-bodied, with super fine tannins and ripe fruit. It's long and juicy with lovely fruit. Super long and beautiful, with fine tannins that last for minutes. Tight now, but juicy and gorgeous. Best ever from here. Try in 2020." (02/2012)

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (97WE, 96RP, 95ST, 93JS, 93WS). Wine Enthusiast: "With its distinctive antique bottle and gold etched label dominated by a sheep, this is definitely a move away from classic Bordeaux bottling. It is good that the wine can support the presentation. The fruit is so ripe, it almost tastes of raisins, but that sweetness is finely balanced by the dry tannins and concentrated texture. To finish, there are exotic spices, giving an almost oriental character to the long aftertaste. (RV)" (06/2003)

It has superb delineation on the nose with vibrant red berry fruit, briary and cold stones – the mineralite heightened with time. The palate is poised, leafy and fresh, an elegant and rather understated Pinot Noir that is full of personality and charm. Lovely. (NM)" (04/2014)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Bouchard Pere et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (96BH, 96RP, 95ST, 95WE, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bouchard's 2007 Corton-Charlemagne - the last wine they picked - offers another of those occasions for reflecting on a bit of Burgundian craziness: a grand cru wine presented last in a stellar line-up, yet that costs on-half to one-third that of the other grand cru bottlings that preceded it. A striking and intensely pungent aroma of holly berry, fresh ginger, and lime zest leads to a vivacious, silken-textured, chalky, saline, crustacean palate. For all of this wine's sheer intensity and palpable sense of underlying extract, it shares lift, buoyancy, and overall elegance with its Chevalier-Montrachet counterparts and preserves the energy and primary, juicy refreshment that goes with its vintage. The diversity and persistence of mineral elements here are memorable." (12/2009)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (95JS, 94BH, 93W&S). James Suckling: "My birthday celebration night in Hong Kong moved on from Moët & Chandon and Dom Pérignon 2000 to a 2005 Bonneau de Martray Corton-Charlemange, which is an old favorite of mine for great white Burgundy. I often say that great Corton-Charlemagne is a red wine masquerading as a white wine because it can be so structured and textured. This 2005 was certainly like that. Some say that Bonneau de Martray went down in quality in the 1990s but then came back in the 2000s. The 2005 that we drank was excellent quality. It was a tightly structured white with sliced apples, lemon meringue and an exquisite cream character. It was full body and silky-textured, showing a dense and beautiful palate. It still needs at least two or three years to open and show its true quality." (06/2016)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Wonderfully ripe, deep aromas of lime, minerals and crushed stone. An incredible mouthful of stones and minerals, with uncanny intensity, juiciness and lift. At this point in my marathon tasting with Boillot, my handwriting was degenerating and I was using exclamation marks rather than adjectives. Flat-out great white Burgundy. John Gilman: "The 1975 Bollinger R.D. has probably been fully mature for a couple of decades, but the wine continues to cruise along beautifully in the heart of its plateau and shows no signs of imminent decline. The bouquet offers up a lovely, complex blend of baked peaches, walnuts, fresh-baked bread, lovely soil tones and a touch of honey in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still quite vibrant, with a good core, modest mousse, fine focus and grip and a long, complex and nicely tertiary finish. A lovely drink. 1986 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1986 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (100RP, 97ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The late Michel Delon always thought that this was the greatest vintage he had produced. We often tasted it side by side with the 1982, because I always preferred the latter vintage. Of course, the two vintages are quite different in style, with the 1986 a monument to classicism, with great tannin, extraordinary delineation, and a huge, full-bodied nose of sweet, ripe cassis fruit intermixed with vanilla, melon, fruitcake, and a multitude of spices. The wine has always been phenomenally concentrated, yet wonderfully fresh and vigorous. The wine still seems young, yet it is hard to believe it is not close to full maturity. It is a great example of Leoville Las Cases, and another compelling reason to take a serious look at the top Cabernet Sauvignon-based Medocs of 1986. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2035. It is amazing to taste these wines at 30 years of age and see that their signatures are all very much intact. Of course, the magnum format is so ideal for Champagne... The 1982 Dom Pérignon is just a little more focused and vibrant in style. Here it is the wine’s salivating minerality that really sings. It, too, is quite youthful and vibrant for its age. 1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe (100RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " I was served blind a magnum of the 1990 Montrose in Cape Town, which had been purchased on release and stored in perfect conditions. Now, here was the real deal, unfettered by any infection, a regal Saint Estèphe. It shows approximately the same evolution as the 1989 in bottle, but unsurprisingly showed less bricking in magnum format. The bouquet is cut from a different cloth to the 1989 and attests to that warm vintage: hickory, clove, undergrowth and wild fennel, later garrigue-like scents and terracotta, the latter two more pronounced on the bottle format compared to the youthful magnum. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, yet the balance is perfect, a ballerina-like poise with the structure of the Forth Bridge ... (NM)" (03/2017)

This makes the 1995 seem almost cooked by comparison. Still needs at least five or six years of cellaring. 'We always had unusual tastes in this wine, like eucalyptus and menthol, due to the cool September nights,' noted Ducasse. 93+ (ST)" (09/2004)

1982 Branaire-Ducru, St-Julien
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Branaire-Ducru, St-Julien (95VN, 93RP). Vinous: "Bright, amber-tinged red. Knockout aromas of ripe red cherry, cassis, milk chocolate and sweet spices. Rich and dense, with fleshy, fully ripe red and black fruit flavors that linger impressively. Big, ripe, sweet, creamy wine; almost opulent, but without any undue weight or overripe aromas or flavors. This has always been one of my favorite Branaire-Ducrus: really great stuff! 2001 Figeac, Saint-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Figeac, Saint-Emilion (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property from magnum, the 2001 Figeac is beginning to fulfill its early promise and is evolving into a really quite wonderful Saint Emilion. Deep in color, the nose is initially reserved, but it unfurls to offer enticing mint and salted licorice scents, pencil box and musk that are all beautifully focused. The palate is well balanced with very well-judged acidity. The Cabernet Franc shines through and imparts a subtle bell pepper note. This is fresh and still youthful, refined and poised with veins of blood orange. Coming into its own now after 15 years in bottle, this is open for business and should offer another two decades of drinking pleasure. This 2001 deserves decanting as I observed this improving in the glass. (NM)" (08/2016)

1979 Certan de May, Pomerol
Bid on this bottle of 1979 Certan de May, Pomerol (94JG). John Gilman: "It had been quite a number of years since I last had a bottle of the 1979 Certan de May, and I made up for it well in 2005 and 2006 with four or five opportunities to taste the wine. The 1979 Certan de May has not lost a step as it passed its twentieth-fifth birthday, and is clearly a candidate for wine of the vintage. The nose is deep and beautifully pure, offering up notes of red and black plums, a bit of black raspberries, chocolate, tobacco, delicate hints of game and summer truffle, woodsmoke, a whisper of spicy wood and crushed violets. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and resolved, with a lovely core of black raspberry fruit, outstanding complexity, impeccable balance, tangy acidity, and a very long, polished and refined finish of excellent intensity. This is a beautiful bottle of claret at its absolute apogee, and though the reputation of the ’79 vintage is rather moderate, this is a great bottle

1982 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe (93ST, 92JG, 90RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium red, with a hint of amber at the rim. Very aromatic, inviting nose of redcurrant, leather and tobacco. Intensely flavored and gripping, with a slightly raisiny singed plum character but also solid framing acidity that gives the wine a juicy quality. Quite fat and full. Finishes with superb structure and grip. (ST)" (08/2002)

1999 Domaine Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos St. Jacques"
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Domaine Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos St. Jacques" (93BH, (91-93RP), 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques (domaine) has a roasted black fruit-scented nose. Medium-bodied, lush, and delicious, this is a pure, sweet red cherry and blackberry-flavored offering. While it does not have the power or concentration of Jadot's finest vintages of Clos St.-Jacques, this wine relies on elegance, purity, and definition. This is a gorgeous, flavorful, highly delineated effort that possesses copious quantities of supple tannin. (PR)" (06/2001)

1999 Monbousquet, St-Emilion
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 Monbousquet, St-Emilion (94RP, 91ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 Monbousquet exhibits a port-like bouquet of super-ripe black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with scents of coffee, tobacco, and vanilla. Tipping the scales at a whopping 14% alcohol (extremely high for Bordeaux), this wine, which spends 18 months in 100% new oak and is bottled unfined and unfiltered, is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was cropped at an amazingly low 30 hectoliters per hectare. It possesses an amazing texture, a mid-palate that you could get lost in, and a sensational 40-45 second finish. The exotic aromas, incredible texture, and abundant fruit are reminiscent of Pomerol's renowned micro-cuvee, Le Pin. The 1999 is even better from bottle than it was from cask. It is a remarkable effort for the vintage. (RP)" (04/2002)
