French Wine

When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its regions, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and occasionally as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a 100 lives. To understand and appreciate French wine, you only need to begin tasting them. Check out some of the top picks that our buyers have tracked down - several of these wines are imported directly from France.

1988 Gentaz-Dervieux "Côte Brune Cuvée Réservée" Côte-Rôtie
Bid on this bottle of 1988 Gentaz-Dervieux "Côte Brune Cuvée Réservée" Côte-Rôtie (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1988 Cote Rotie is a spectacularly rich, concentrated wine with superb depth and intensity. Still very backward, this murky, dark ruby-colored wine displays a huge nose of cassis, minerals, licorice, earth, and flowers. In the mouth there is astonishing concentration, terrific flavor delineation, medium to full body, plenty of tannin, and a long, spicy, tightly knit finish. This is a dazzling Cote Rotie for ringing in the next century. (RP)" (01/1997)

1989 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1989 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (97JS, 93WS, 90RP). James Suckling: "I have never been a huge fan of this Lafite but it seems to be coming into its own now. It's a wine with a character of cloves and berries with hints plums. It shows loads of potpourri. Roses too. Full and so balanced. Tight and youthful. The winemaker at Lafite says that when he wants to show someone a perfect example of Pauillac this is the Lafite he pours. Maybe he is right? " (12/2013)

2010 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (100RP, 99WS, 98ST, 98WE, 97JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As for the 2010 Haut-Brion, it does not have the power of Latour’s 2010 or the intense lead pencil shavings and chocolaty component of Lafite-Rothschild, but it is extraordinary, perfect wine. It has a slightly lower pH than the 2009 (3.7 versus the 2009's 3.8), and even higher alcohol than the 2009 (14.6%). The wine is ethereal. From its dense purple color to its incredibly subtle but striking aromatics that build incrementally, offering up a spectacular smorgasbord of aromas ranging from charcoal and camphor to black currant and blueberry liqueur and spring flowers, this wine’s finesse, elegant yet noble power and authority come through in a compelling fashion. It is full-bodied, but that’s only apparent in the aftertaste, as the wine seems to float across the palate with remarkable sweetness, harmony, and the integration of all its component parts – alcohol, t

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2007 Pousse d'Or Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Le Cailleret" (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Sweet spot outstanding* This is notably more elegant, refined and complex, both on the layered, cool and airy nose as well as the intensely stony medium-bodied flavors that possess ample dry extract that completely buffers the firm acid spine on the balanced, harmonious and classy finish. I particularly like the mouth feel as this is pure silk and satin." (07/2009)

1988 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg
Bid on this bottle of 1988 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg (96RP, 94WS, 93BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Richebourg was an explosive wine with an earthy, cinnamon, gingery, soy sauce aroma backed up with the intense smell of plums and toasty new oak. Extremely rich, full bodied, and awesomely proportioned, this heroic wine should be drunk from the late nineties through the first two decades of the twenty-first century. It seems bigger, fuller, and more powerful than even the celestial 1985." (1/1990)

1996 Rene Engel Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru "Les Brulees"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Rene Engel Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru "Les Brulees" . 89-92 points Pierre Rovani writing for the Wine Advocate: "Revealing a medium-to-dark ruby color and aromas reminiscent of stones and spices drenched in raspberry juice, this wine has superb density on the palate as well as a silky texture and medium-to-full body. This complex, gorgeously ripe, and harmonious wine is filled with cherries, blueberries, earth tones, Asian spices, and a dash of freshly cracked pepper. Anticipated maturity: 1999-2007." (08/98) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark in color, succulently intense with pure, clean blackberry, violet and cassis notes, this tightens on the midpalate, with a crisp texture on the lingering finish. Drink now through 2004." (07/99)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru "Les Mitans" (92BH, (91-92RP), (89-92ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The new, dedicated Lafarge bottling of 2005 Volnay Mitans also displays exotic florality and faintly bitter citrus zest and fruit pit character to accompany its ripe but tart cherry and red currant fruit. A rich meat broth character and subtle minerality add depth and complexity on the palate, and this finishes with fine tannins and multi-registered fruit, meat and mineral notes. (DS)" (06/2007)

2010 Domaine Blain-Gagnard Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Blain-Gagnard Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (95BH, 92WS). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Don't Miss!* Here the nose is notably more restrained than that of the Criots with its pure white rose, lavender, pear and lemon rind suffused nose. There is excellent richness and outstanding size, weight and power to the overtly muscular flavors that are blessed with an abundance of dry extract on the explosively long and palate staining finish. Like the Criots, this is bone dry with genuinely impeccable balance that should allow this to successfully age and improve for 10 to 12 years." (06/2012)

2010 Latour Giraud Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrieres Cuvee des Pierre"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Latour Giraud Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrieres Cuvee des Pierre" ((93-95BH), 95ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright pale yellow. Spicy oak, lemon oil, hazelnut and brown spices on the nose. Boasts superb saline density on entry, then remains tactile and salty in the middle, but with terrific energy to buffer the wine's volume. There's outstanding flavor intensity here but not the early tenderness of the basic Genevrieres bottling. Superb lemony minerality gives the finish terrific cut. Really mounts slowly and builds. Latour noted that both this wine and the cuvee classique went back into barrel for additional aging after the August racking; he moved the rest of his wines into tanks, where they remained in mass for another six months. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Arnoux (Lachaux) Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru (95RP, 94BH, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Naturally Lachaux’s 2008 Romanee Saint-Vivant bats last in the Arnoux line-up, but in addition, this vintage it puts every wine that came before it in the collection into perspective, and all but the Reignots in the shade (not that as a group these weren’t already noir enough Pinots). Sumptuous black fruits accented by fruit pit piquancy; complex if to some extent ineffable, decadent forest floor and mineral notes; exotic spices, rich chocolate, and heady floral perfume – all are on display in this seamlessly-rich, already velvet-textured beauty whose structure is implicit but deeply-buried. Yet there is not an ounce of superfluous fat or a bit of superficial sweetness, and there is that vibratory resonance possessed by the exceptional wines of this vintage. There are around 140 cases of this – not a small quantity by the standards of top-notch grand cru Bur

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Clos Vougeot Grand Cru ((91-94BH), 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "From two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Méo-Camuzet vines. A moderately oaked nose of red and black Pinot fruit nuanced by ample earth and sauvage notes that continue onto the notably sweet, full and concentrated flavors supported by firm and dusty tannin on the youthfully austere finish. This is a classically styled and quite ripe Clos de Vougeot with excellent dry extract levels." (01/2007)

1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (99RP, 96WS, 95ST, 94JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1989 has taken forever to shed its formidable tannins, but what a great vintage of Lynch Bages! I would rank it at the top of the pyramid... Its dense purple color reveals a slight lightening at the edge and the stunning bouquet offers classic notes of creme de cassis, subtle smoke, oak and graphite. Powerful and rich with some tannins still to shed at age 22, it is still a young adolescent in terms of its evolutionand will benefit from another 4-5 years of cellaring. It should prove to be a 50 year wine. (RP)" (08/2011)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Domaine de la Vougeraie Bonnes Mares Grand Cru ((95-97VN), 94ST, 93BH, (89-91RP)). Vinous: "The 2012 Bonnes-Mares emerges from a parcel on the Morey side that is rich in clay, which gives the wine much of its breath and pure, unbridled power. Rich, powerful and explosive, the 2012 Bonnes-Mares is a gripping Burgundy that takes hold of all the senses. Layers of flavor seem to fill out in all directions. Cool veins of minerality give the blue and black toned fruit a sense of cool, invigorating energy that is hugely appealing. The 2012 was vinified with 80% whole clusters and is aging in 80% new oak. It is above all else a wine built on serious balance. (AG)" (01/2014)

1929 Château-Chalon (Jean Bourdy) Jura (620ml)
Bid on this bottle of 1929 Château-Chalon (Jean Bourdy) Jura (620ml). For seven generations, this deeply rooted Jura family has been amassing a collection of vintage wines that date back to 1781, all stored and maintained in excellent condition. According to Robert Parker: "Wines from Jean-Francois Bourdy’s small cellar in Arlay have been trickling into the world’s wine markets with increasing regularity over the past decade (though there is a history of these wines in the U.S. even before World War II), causing considerable waves, an American fan club having accumulated, with buzz centering understandably around the Bourdys’ huge assortment of vintages spanning well more than a century." Wonderfully intense, sharply delineated flavors of red berries, spices and mint; a wine of great density and verve, not to mention powerful structure for long life. 1989 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1989 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1989 Hermitage Blanc is low in acidity, expansive, and weighty, and makes for a huge, chewy mouthful of white wine. The honeyed, somewhat unctuous personality of the wine is more dominant in the 1989 than in the 1988, but there remains the head-turning, beautiful, flowery aromas, sensational concentration, super ripeness, and low acidity. Chave believes the latter component is always a characteristic of the greatest Hermitage vintages. (RP)" (01/1997)

This is a profound, highly concentrated, intense, elegant wine. Loads of cherries, blackberries, blueberries, and spices can be found in this awesomely fruit-dominated, harmonious offering. Bid on this bottle of 1999 Domaine Emmanuel Rouget Echézeaux Grand Cru (94BH, 91WS, 90ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The heavy wood spice that dominated the concentrated black fruit from cask has now largely, if not completely, been absorbed and leads to round, sexy, seductive, earthy, nicely rich and detailed flavors of excellent intensity and fine length. This is still relatively primary though the depth is slowly emerging and while it will undoubtedly be a long term cellar candidate, it should be close to its majority in another 7 to 10 years. Note that I have upgraded my view of this wine considerably as I was not at all sure that it could successfully integrate this much wood but indeed it has. Tasted several times recently with consistent results. Try from 2016+." (12/2012)

1975 d'Yquem, Sauternes
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1975 d'Yquem, Sauternes (98RP, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1975 Château d'Yquem stands as one of the towering successes of that decade and at 40 years of age, it shows no signs of losing any of its prowess. This bottle represented one of the best that I have encountered. Iridescent in color, the bouquet soars from the glass, a pyrotechnic display of quince, Clementine, honey and a touch of aszu, lending it a slight Tokaji-like personality. It is beautifully defined and intense. The palate is pure and detailed with a killer line of acidity, vibrant honeyed fruit and a mellifluous finish that is now fully expressive. It vies with the imperious 1971 as the greatest Yquem of that era. This is simply magnificent. (NM)" (06/2015)

Lovely subtle perfume of cherry and raspberry liqueur lifted by a peppery element. Sweet, dense and lively but restrained on the palate, with distinctly dark flavors of blueberry, licorice and bitter chocolate. The brooding finish features broad, palate-coating tannins. Just a sensational Cornas that surpasses what was achieved in 2009 and 2010, this full-bodied, concentrated and structured effort has the fruit to be enjoyable now (this is a common trait of the vintage), yet has the depth, richness and balance to evolve for over two decades. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Meursault Villages is quite simply a fabulous wine, as good a village cru as you will find anytime, anyplace, anywhere. It has a stunning bouquet with quite brilliant delineation and detail: wet limestone, fresh lime and sea spray. The palate is beautifully balanced and seems to have such electricity flowing through it. There is impressive minerality from start to its Puligny-like finish. One of the finest of recent vintages from Coche-Dury and highly recommended if you have the pennies. (NM)" (10/2014)

1998 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1998 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (98RP, 95WS, 94ST, 94W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, this wine represents only 34% of Lafite's total harvest. In a less than perfect Medoc vintage, it has been spectacular since birth, putting on more weight and flesh over the last year. This opaque purple-colored 1998 is close to perfection. The spectacular nose of lead pencil, smoky, mineral, and black currant fruit soars majestically from the glass. The wine is elegant yet profoundly rich, revealing the essence of Lafite's character. The tannin is sweet, and the wine is spectacularly layered yet never heavy. The finish is sweet, super-rich, yet impeccably balanced and long (50+ seconds). Anticipated maturity: 2007-2035. 2002 Louis Jadot Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2002 Louis Jadot Bonnes Mares Grand Cru ((97-99RP), 95ST, (92-94BH)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Armed with huge quantities of fruit and perfectly ripened tannin, the medium to full-bodied 2002 Bonnes Mares explodes from the glass with stunning aromas of candied blueberries, rocks, and red cherries. This massive, broad, enormously rich wine could ultimately, like the Chapelle and Clos de Beze, earn a perfect score. Its velvety waves of sensual red and black fruits are interspersed with nuanced notes of spices, mocha, flowers, and minerals. While enormously powerful and ripe, it magically retains its freshness and sports an ethereal quality that is difficult to put into words. It is a tour de force in winemaking! Anticipated maturity: 2009-2020+. (PR)" (06/2004)

1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (100JS, 100RP, 98ST, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine remains one of the legends of Bordeaux. It has thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed during its first 25 years of life, and over the last 4-5 years has developed such secondary nuances as cedar and spice box. The creme de cassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity, multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are a showcase for what this Chateau accomplished in 1982. The wine is still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears capable of remaining fruity and vibrant in 2082! Thank God it is beginning to budge, as I would like to drink most of my supply before I kick the bucket. This is a great, still youthful wine, and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux chateaux when you see the complexity and brilliance of this first-growth. (RP)" (06/2009)

1986 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (100RP, 97ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The late Michel Delon always thought that this was the greatest vintage he had produced. We often tasted it side by side with the 1982, because I always preferred the latter vintage. Of course, the two vintages are quite different in style, with the 1986 a monument to classicism, with great tannin, extraordinary delineation, and a huge, full-bodied nose of sweet, ripe cassis fruit intermixed with vanilla, melon, fruitcake, and a multitude of spices. The wine has always been phenomenally concentrated, yet wonderfully fresh and vigorous. The wine still seems young, yet it is hard to believe it is not close to full maturity. It is a great example of Leoville Las Cases, and another compelling reason to take a serious look at the top Cabernet Sauvignon-based Medocs of 1986. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2035. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Sexy aromas of peach, orange oil and smoky silex. Concentrated, layered and utterly seamless, with peach and soft citrus fruit flavors lifted by powerful flinty minerality. A premier cru with grand cru perfume and inner-palate energy. This sharply delineated wine stains the palate and builds inexorably on the sappy aftertaste. Superb." (10/2011)

Wine Spectator: "Ripe and balanced, offering wet earth, mineral, smoke and red berry complexity, this is superbly intense on the finish, with a round, velvety mouthfeel. Grows on you as it kicks into high gear, rockets to a beautiful finish. This grand cru from Jean-Nicolas Méo tastes sweeter and more hedonistic than his minerally Clos de Vougeot, but both get the same classic rating. (PM)" (09/1998)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium-bodied, with layers of concentration, stunning blue, red, and black fruits intermixed with spring flowers, a subtle dosage of new oak, and a distinctive personality that is elegant while at the same time powerful and substantial, this is a multi-dimensional wine that was extremely approachable and drinkable in both tastings I had of it. The color remains a healthy, even opaque bluish/purple, but there is no reason to hesitate to drink it. It should evolve for another 30-40 years, so there is no hurry either. (RP)" (06/2010)

Bid on this 6 liter 1-bottle lot of 1998 Monbousquet, St-Émilion (6L) (94RP, (90-91ST), 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Yields of 28-30 hectoliters per hectare are among the lowest in St.-Emilion, which no doubt accounts for the wine's explosive richness. The final blend, 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc, was bottled unfined and unfiltered after 18 months in 100% new oak, with aging on the lees. It boasts a saturated plum/purple color in addition to an exotic bouquet of Asian spices, plum liqueur, prunes, and blackberries. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1999 Bertrand Ambroise Corton Grand Cru "Le Rognet" ((94-97RP), 92ST, 91BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The intense, black-colored 1999 Corton Le Rognet reveals black fruit, fresh herb, and Asian spice aromas. Ambroise generally produces 32 hectoliters per hectare from his 0.7 hectares of vines in this grand cru. In 1999, however, he harvested 40 hectoliters per hectare at 14.5% natural potential alcohol. This is a monster of a wine, crammed with blackberries, road tar, cherries, kirsch, and a myriad of spices. Its loads of exquisitely ripened tannins are soaked in sweet, candied fruits. This powerful, chewy offering coats the taster's palate and lasts for almost a minute. It is, at present, unformed, yet will become civilized with cellaring. (PR)" (06/2001)

A touch of roasted espresso bean is also present. The wine has great concentration, a magnificent, full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity, and well-integrated acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood. 1999 Domaine Anne Gros Richebourg Grand Cru
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1999 Domaine Anne Gros Richebourg Grand Cru (96RP, 94BH, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Here is another great wine from Anne Gros, which will reward those with the patience and nouse to cellar for an extended period. The 1999 Richebourg Grand Cru is backward and reticent on the nose, but it only takes a few swirls of the glass and it reveals gorgeous black cherry and raspberry fruit mixed with a hint of dark chocolate from some residual new oak that will be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with fine acidity. There is a smorgasbord of lush raspberry and wild strawberry fruit cloaked in new oak, but the wood does not obscure the grape variety or vineyard, allowing the character of the wine to be expressed with hints of white pepper sprinkled over the finish. What a great Richebourg, but one that I would actually afford another five years in the cellar. This is long-term. (NM)" (11/2015)

1999 Domaine Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Suchots"
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1999 Domaine Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Suchots". Cilve Coates ranks the Suchots climat as grand cru quality, saying: "Les Suchots occupies a flattenned egg sort of mound between Richebourg and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and Echézeaux, and is the largest of the Vosne-Romanée premiers crus. There are just over 13 hectares. This is the most noble of all the first growths. In the best hands we really do get grand cru quality. The wine is full bodied, less lush than Brulées, less finely spirited (in a racehorse sense) than Beaumonts, but of great breeding nonetheless." He also recommends Domaine Cathiard as one to seek out.

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1999 Domaine Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Malconsorts" (94BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Though there are some mature notes in evidence, the expressive nose is still relatively primary with wonderfully spicy yet subtle aromas of black fruit, hoisin and soy that give way to rich, seductive flavors that are supported by rounded and ripe tannins, all wrapped in a gorgeously complex and highly persistent finish. While this could certainly be enjoyed now, for my taste I would suggest continuing to hold for a few more years. Either way, this is a very special Malconsorts that should continue to impress for many years to come. In a word, terrific." (07/2013)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "In contrast to the general style of the vintage, this is still aromatically austere though with coaxing, reveals wonderfully complex aromas of a simply incredible array of black fruits, earth, spice, crushed herbs and notes of chocolate with flavors that are huge but fine, powerful but subtle and rich yet detailed with a stupendously long finish that offers intense minerality. This is genuinely stunning juice and not to be missed if you have the chance. Rich, layered and voluptuous in the glass, the 2002 shows off its flamboyant personality with flair. Butter, cooked apple and tropically-leaning fruits mesh together effortlessly. Interestingly, with time in the glass the 2002 gains in freshness and energy without losing its essential opulence. The elevated ripeness of the year gives the 2002 Dom Pérignon distinctly Puligny-Montrachet leaning inflections. Chef de Caves Richard Geoffroy adds that August that year was hot and very dry. Rain towards the end of the month and into early September freshened the vines and accelerated the final phase of ripening. This is yet another fabulous showing from the 2002, which continues to cement its reputation as a truly epic Dom Pérignon. (AG)" (10/2015)

It needs at least 5-7 years in the cellar, and has the potential to last for 25 or more years. The color is a saturated dark ruby/purple, and the closed nose offers sweet, jammy aromas framed by noticeable smoky new oak. 1996 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1996 Latour, Pauillac (100RP, 96WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-black in color, the 1996 is classic Latour at its utmost. The nose offers a tantalizing array of complex notes including dried Chinese plums, toasted nuts, Indian spices and black olive tapenade over a core of dried cherries and aged meat. The palate is pure power that is stunningly balanced giving a generous level of fruit concentration perfectly offset by a high level of very finely grained tannins and seamless freshness. Possessing a finish that just goes on and on, this is as good as it gets." (11/2012)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "More reticent but bright nose currently dominated by spicy oak. Sweet and juicy in the mouth, but very closed. Seems atypically difficult to taste. "Yes, it's a very tight wine in '96," says Meo, "but it's showing better now than before the racking." Tough but very long; built rather like a Richebourg. (ST)" (03/1998)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine Jacques Prieur Clos Vougeot Grand Cru ((96-99RP), 96WS, 94WE, 92ST, (88-91BH)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Yes, I admit it. I was convinced Prieur had screwed up by placing the 2002 Clos Vougeot after his Chambertin and Musigny, particularly after tasting the heights they achieved in this stellar vintage. I was wrong, it deserved the place of honor. Monstrous amounts of spices imbued with blackberries are found in its powerful aromatics. It is full-bodied, revealing a massive breadth, a liqueur of syrupy cassis and blackberries that linger seemingly forever in the mouth. Its broad shoulders, perfect ripeness, and fabulous density of fruit must be experienced to be believed. This stunning wine melds super-ripe characteristics with exquisite balance, nobility with boisterousness. Projected maturity: 2009-2024. Bravo! (PR)" (06/2004)

Huge, superripe nose combines black plum, brown spices, mocha, chocolate and roasted herbs. Voluptuous, superripe and very sweet, with a lushness of texture rare for young Bonnes-Mares. This has freshness and thrust, thanks to the inherent structure of this grand cru, but seems almost too sweet for Bonnes-Mares. Finishes very long, with sweet, fine, building tannins. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs has meliorated since I last tasted it back in 2010. Here, it has a really quite entrancing bouquet, that transparency intact but the fruit enhanced with time: strawberry and red currant, almost a "flinty" mineralité underneath. 1996 Léoville-Las Cases, St-Julien
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1996 Léoville-Las Cases, St-Julien (98RP, 96ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A profound Leoville Las Cases, it is one of the great modern day wines of Bordeaux. This wine's hallmark remains a sur-maturite (over-ripeness) of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. Yet the wine has retained its intrinsic classicism, symmetry, and profound potential for complexity and elegance. The black/purple color is followed by a spectacular nose of cassis, cherry liqueur, pain grille, and minerals. It is powerful and rich on the attack, with beautifully integrated tannin, massive concentration, yet no hint of heaviness or disjointedness. As this wine sits in the glass it grows in stature and richness. It is a remarkable, seamless, palate-staining, and extraordinarily elegant wine - the quintessential St.-Julien. Despite the sweetness of the tannin, I would recommend cellaring this wine for 7-8 years. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2035. (RP)" (04/1999)

Although backward, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color in addition to abundant black currant fruit intertwined with spicy oak and truffle-like scents. The wine is brilliantly made, full-bodied, and tightly-structured with plenty of muscle and outstanding concentration and purity. It should be drinkable within 4-5 years, and keep for 25-30. This classic Pauillac is a worthy rival to the other-worldly 1996. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025. (RP)" (02/1998)

There is a nutty, cedar undertone as well. Very complex and full-bodied, with lots of vanilla bean and ripe plum flavors. This is almost Burgundian in texture: so soft and so attractive, but then the Bordeaux tannins kick in at the end. What a wine. Bid on this bottle of 2008 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Pucelles" (93BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A broad yet nuanced nose features notes of honeysuckle, lime peel and acacia blossom that serves as a beguiling introduction for the exceptionally fresh and refined flavors that possess a sophisticated mouth feel and as much depth as the nose. This is a strikingly stylish and balanced effort that is seriously long." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Pucelles from Henri Boillot has a tighter nose than the Mouchere, touches of kiwi, green apple and a little gooseberry, then with further aeration the minerality of the terroir begins to come through: granite and a touch of flint. The palate is well balanced, quite floral on the entry with delicate touches of orange peel, apricot and white peach, that underlying digestif quality less pronounced than the Mouchere, but just showing on the finish. Lovely. Drink 2011-2020. Tasted January 2010. (NM-Wine Journal)" (03/2

At once broad and minerally, with more than enough verve to give energy to the peach and nutty oak flavors. It is a powerful and full-bodied wine with well-integrated tannin. Given Montrose's tendency to shut down, it is performing better out of bottle than I expected. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2030. Although the 1991 exhibits deep color, attractive, spicy, grilled nut, cassis, and weedy aromas, and fine depth, it reveals astringent tannin. (RP)" (02/1994)

2007 Domaine Ramonet Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Domaine Ramonet Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru (96BH, 95WS, 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Given the almost extreme reticence of the Bâtard, I was moderately surprised to see how wonderfully expressive this positively brilliant wine is already. The nose is simply stunning with a supremely elegant and kaleidoscopic range of spice, floral, citrus, stone and pain grillé notes that is the perfect complement to the racy, detailed and equally complex middle weight flavors brimming with the underlying minerality advertised by the nose, all wrapped in a driving, delineated and explosive finish. As good as the Ramonet Chevalier is, in the 10 vintages that it has been made, I can't think of one where it's the equal of the Montrachet. However, 2007 just might be that vintage." (10/2009)

Bid on this bottle of 2011 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (97VN, (92-95BH), 94RP, 94WS, 92ST). Vinous: "The 2011 Batard-Montrachet boasts serious richness, depth and structure. A wine of pure brawn and intensity, the 2011 impresses for its exceptional balance and harmony, but it is also very reticent and nowhere near ready to show the full breadth of its personality. The finish alone is simply sensational. Readers should give the 2011 at least a few years in bottle to settle down. The Batard is imposing, sensational and regal in every way. (AG)" (09/2013)

It has superb delineation on the nose with vibrant red berry fruit, briary and cold stones – the mineralite heightened with time. The palate is poised, leafy and fresh, an elegant and rather understated Pinot Noir that is full of personality and charm. Lovely. (NM)" (04/2014)

2003 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée da Capo" Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this bottle of 2003 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée da Capo" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 99WS, (95-97ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "At present the Capo reveals that extra level of flavor, power, complexity and richness. It is a big wine (16.1% alcohol – less than in the 1998, but more than in the 2000 and 2007) boasting a dark plum/garnet color as well as a stunning bouquet of aged beef intermixed with pepper, herbes de Provence, and steak au poivre. This unctuously textured, full-bodied Chateauneuf possesses enormous body, huge flavors and sweet, velvety tannins. Still youthful, it has not yet begun to close down, and I'm not sure it ever will given this unusual vintage. It is a modern day classic that should continue to provide provocative as well as compelling drinking for 20-30+ years. (RP)" (10/2010)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Raphael served this 2009 Meursault les Rougeot blind following my tasting through his 2012s. It has a gorgeous waxy, honeysuckle bouquet with apricot blossom and fig jam aromas. It is exotic compared to the Coche-Dury style, but you won't complain. The palate is very intense with great concentration, superb acidity and layers of walnut-tinged citrus fruit that fan out wonderfully on the finish. 1966 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1966 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My God, this is a wonderful mature Lafite. Served blind chez Rosemary George MW it has a definable Pauillac nose with subtle notes of cedar, sous-bois and a touch of dried blood. It has incredible harmony and purity – a bouquet that has you instantly captivated. The palate does not disappoint: a beguiling sense of natural harmony and delineation, not the weight of Latour nor the femininity of Margaux, but a Lafite aiming for understated sophistication. Delicate cedar and cigar box towards the finish that just goes on and on. This bottle vindicates my first encounter in Bordeaux, when it similarly bewitched its audience. Absolutely sublime. A point. 1970 Haut-Brion, Graves

Quite rich for 1970. Balanced and very smooth palate. Coffee & sweet red fruits. Fully mature, a highly enjoyable wine (and far cheaper than Latour.) Somewhat under-rated by others. Then again chez Alex Hunt in November 2005. Although a little musty at first, this wine grows and grows on you. A cool, blackberry leaf, cranberry nose with lots of cedar and pine is followed by a tannic, almost rustic, broad-shouldered palate with cedary, tobacco-infused fruit. Lush, thick and deep but with terrific chalky energy animating the middle palate. Conveys striking depth to its red fruit and floral flavors, with the 45% new oak practically invisible today. The wine is displaying plenty of tannin, huge body, and sweet black currant fruit intermixed with minerals and subtle oak. 2002 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2002 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage ((91-94RP), 92WS, (90-91ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the candidates for the Rhone Valley’s 'wine of the vintage' is Chave’s 2002 Hermitage. A draconian selection has resulted in a deep ruby/purple-colored offering revealing sweet notes of melted licorice, briery berries, earth, and herbs. Medium to full-bodied, pure, elegant, and intense, this forward-styled Hermitage appears to be better than the 1992, 1993, and 1994, which are all fine wines that are holding up well. The 2002 should be at its peak between 2005-2015. What Chave accomplished in the extremely challenging 2002 vintage is unquestionably noteworthy. Not because of tiny yields and small grapes, but due to Chave’s decision to eliminate every grape except the very best, 2002 is a small crop. (RP)" (12/2004)

1983 Palmer, Margaux
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1983 Palmer, Margaux (98JS, 98RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine goes from strength to strength, and is certainly a candidate for 'wine of the vintage.' It has surpassed even Chateau Margaux in recent tastings. The color is an opaque plum/purple. The wine has a fabulously complex nose of smoked duck, white flowers, cedar, Asian spice, creme de cassis, melted licorice, and espresso. Super-concentrated, very powerful, full-bodied, and huge, this is undeniably, one of the biggest, most concentrated, and powerful Palmers made in the last 40 years. The wines has thrown off the rugged tannins that were so prominent during its first 10-15 years of life and has become increasingly seamless and compelling. Potentially this wine remains the most extraordinary Palmer after the 1961. Anticipated maturity: Now-2020. " (01/2003)

2012 Chimère (Sine Qua Non) Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2012 Chimère (Sine Qua Non) Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L) (99RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "We finished the tasting with the inky-purple 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape. A cellar selection by Manfred Krankl (of Sine Qua Non) of mostly Mourvedre, yet with a splash of Grenache and even some white varieties, it was aged in two new 300-liter French oak barrels before being bottled (in magnum only) unfined and unfiltered. It’s a massive, masculine and structured Chateauneuf du Pape that needs to be tasted to be believed. Cassis, creamy licorice, jammy blackberry and crushed flowers are only a few of the nuances here, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, incredible mid-palate depth and a blockbuster finish that just won’t quit. The level of concentration here surpasses just about every other wine in the vintage, and yet it never seems heavy, cumbersome or over-the-top. Give it 4-5 years and drink this spectacular effort over the following two decades. Hats off

Bid on this bottle of 2005 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (99BH, (98-99RP), 99WS, 96ST). Wine Spectator: "A dark side emerges with La Tâche, revealing profound scents of violet, black currant, bilberry and licorice. Definitely meaty and solid--as the French would say, carrée (square)--yet with great depth, richness and length, along with sweet fruit. A fabulous La Tâche, like a well-tuned Ferrari, this is a red Burgundy of classic proportions. (Web Only--2012) (BS)"

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2000 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (96RP, 96WE, 95WS, 94ST, 93JS, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " I find this to be a spectacular Pichon Lalande. Dense purple in color, with loads of coffee, mocha, creme de cassis, and chocolate notes, this is a somewhat unusual blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and a whooping 10% Petit Verdot, with a little bit of Cabernet Franc. The Petit Verdot certainly gives the wine more of a tapenade, floral note, which I think can be interpreted by some as herbal. (RP)" (06/2010)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This extraordinary wine is dark ruby-colored and displays awesome aromas of deeply ripe cassis, blackberries, and violets. It is oily-textured, super-extracted, rich, ample, broad, and concentrated. This masculine, structured, and muscular wine is also refined, delineated, and lively. Waves of candied plums, blueberries, and cherries are intermingled with oak spices and mineral flavors in this immensely long and admirable Bonnes Mares. Projected maturity: 2003-2012+. This wine was a first-rate example of its terroir. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of bright red raspberry and red currant and herbal distillates inform the nose of the Potel 2005 Bonnes Mares. Remarkably smooth and polished on the palate, offering a scintillating display of smoked, peppered meats, tart berries, pungent tobacco and bitter-sweet licorice, this finishes with unusual elegance, refinement and buoyancy for a Bonnes Mares, not to mention for a wine of such sheer intensity. As with so many of the best of Potel’s 2005s, there are certainly ample tannins, but these are exceedingly refined and unobtrusive. I suspect that this is hiding significant incipient complexity and would plan on giving it a decade or more to evolve. (DS)" (06/2007)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Chablis Fourchaume flows across the palate with layers of grapefruit, lime, smoke and ash. The Fourchaume shows quite a bit of energy and vibrancy all the way through to the inviting, harmonious finish. I especially admire the minerality and verve here, especially when compared to the Vieilles Vignes. This is a complete, beautifully balanced wine from Vrignaud. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. Of the 2010 Melka "La Mekerra Vineyard" Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2010 Metisse La Mekerra Vineyard, a Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend, is striking. Mocha, espresso, grilled herbs, licorice and new leather jump from the glass in this striking, gorgeous wine. Rich, sumptuous and beguiling, the 2010 impresses for its captivating bouquet and drop-dead gorgeous personality. The Cabernet Franc comes through in spades. 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (95JS, 95RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is 'great stuff,' with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild." (02/1998)

This is one of the most exciting young reds I have tasted in a long, long time. It shows intense aromas of berries, currants and minerals, with hints of mint. Full-bodied and packed with fruit and tannins, its long finish is refined and silky. A benchmark for the vintage. Intensely fragrant nose with aromas of jasmine, cinnamon buttered toast, stewed apples and preserved ginger. Concentrated honey-nut, warm apple tart and spice flavours fill the mouth giving ample flesh to the firm, fine structure. The bubbles are still remarkably frisky and, in harmony with the crisp backbone of acid, make for a relatively youthful, elegant and exquisitely balanced wine. Very long finish. (LPB)" (03/2009)

Wine Spectator: "This still broods seriously, with dark plum, currant and blackberry fruit, studded with charcoal, singed tobacco and cedar notes and backed by a serious grip of roasted earth. The gorgeously long finish is driven by old-school tannins, with the smoldering edge going on and on. A brick house of a Margaux, with more charcoal than graphite, more austerity than elegance and more power than refinement. (Web-2014)"

Superconcentrated, silky and sweet in the mouth but with superb definition and energy. The wine's sheer density of material completely buffers its 14+% alcohol. The penetrating fragrance of cedar, chestnuts, minerals, and rich fruit is a hallmark of this wine. Powerful, dense, rich, and tannic, as well as medium to full-bodied, with awesome extraction of fruit, this Lafite has immense potential. Patience is required. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2030. 2000 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion (96RP, 92ST, 92WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Extremely young with an unbelievable deep purple color, the 2000 Troplong Mondot has hardly budged since I tasted it in 2003. Two recent tastings confirmed that this is the greatest Troplong Mondot between their profound 1990 and more recent vintages such as 2005, 2008, and 2009. Copious chocolate, graphite, blackberry, blueberry, cassis, and ink characteristics are present in this full-bodied, powerful, massive St.-Emilion. While the tannins are noticeable, they are better integrated than they were seven years ago, and the fruit, extract, and richness clearly outweigh the wine’s structure. This 2000 will benefit from another 4-5 years of cellaring (longer than I originally predicted), and has at least two decades of drinkability ahead of it. (RP)" (06/2010)

This full-bodied classic boasts a dense purple color as well as a superb nose of graphite, creme de cassis, forest floor, licorice and a hint of truffles, low acidity, and extravagant richness. Most of the tannins have been resolved in this superstar of the vintage. It should continue to drink well for 10-15+ years. 95+ (RP)" (08/2014)

This tannic, backward, and hyper-concentrated wine is powerful and intense, yet elegant and precise. If this wine can cope with its very present tannins, it will prove to be stunning. 1999 Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noellat Richebourg Grand Cru

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Richebourg Grand Cru from Hudelot-Noëllat personifies the vineyard with some style. It has a stunning, pure, elegant and effortless nose that maybe expresses that essence of pinoté better than more than a dozen other Richebourg wines present at this tasting. Raspberry coulis, wild strawberry and cold stone soar from the glass with great focus. The palate is tensile, the red berry fruit laced with orange zest that lends vivacity and energy. To be banal, this is just a Richebourg so well crafted that you want to just drink it rather than intellectualize over its virtues. That's the sign of a great wine. (NM)" (11/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru (96RP, 94BH, 94ST, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a Chevalier-Montrachet that really delivers. The 2000 Chevalier Montrachet has a sensational walnut and smoke-tinged nose that is brilliantly focused and vibrant. This just shimmers with tension and develops hints of cockleshell with time. The palate follows through in style: taut and precise and barely showing its age, deep with great intensity and subtle notes of vanilla pod and coconut toward the finish, though they never obstruct the mineral core of this fantastic Chevalier-Montrachet. Only recently have the half bottles reached full maturity, and the 750 ml remains a massive, backward wine for long-term aging. A dense, opaque garnet color is followed by notes of roasted meats, herbs, black currants, incense, and damp earth. Full-bodied, still extremely tannic (sweet but noticeable tannins), rich, and backward, where perfectly stored, this 1982 will last for another 50 years. The estate has always compared it to their 1947, which is still a vibrant wine, and the 1982 should be just as profound. (RP)" (06/2009)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Persian melon, lime, white peach, iris, and green tea in the nose of Francois Cotat’s 2008 Sancerre La Grande Cote lead to a succulent, very subtly sweet palate loaded with melon and peach and infused with green tea, mint, and nut oils. There is a lovely (at least metaphorically) cooling as well as soothing and wafting sense to this, yet it preserves transparency through which shimmer chalky, saline, somehow crystalline suggestions of things mineral. Here is a great example of the elegance that is possible from this great site, even in a wine of close to 14% alcohol, and based on the track record chez Cotat, I suspect this will be well worth following for 12-15 years. Wine Spectator: "This is all elegance, with sleek, fine-grained structure carrying red currant, black cherry and damson plum notes that in turn give way to singed mesquite, saddle leather and lilac. A lovely sanguine edge has already appeared on the finish, but the acidity is still more than fresh. The finish echoes with fruit, iron and saucisson sec notes. (Web Only—2012)"

Bid on this bottle of 2006 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Nuits-St-Georges "Aux Cras" (93BH, 90RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Outstanding* As this terroir often does as it is one of the most elegant and sophisticated in all of Nuits, it has produced a gorgeously elegant red berry fruit nose suffused by an almost pungent minerality and saline character that continues onto the supple, fresh and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent concentration and stunning if structured length. This is an intensely focused wine of harmony and drive with everything it needs for a long life. Highly recommended." (01/2009)

2003 Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat Richebourg Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2003 Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat Richebourg Grand Cru ((91-95ST), 91BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full red-ruby color. Pure, cooler aromas of cassis, violet, licorice and menthol. Densely packed and spicy; less silky and expressive today than the Romanee-Saint-Vivant but also more focused and pure, with more obvious energy. Gripping, sappy flavors of black cherry and licorice. Finishes with superb palate-coating length. Un monsieur,' Hudelot volunteers, suggesting that the Romanee-Saint-Vivant is a more feminine style of grand cru. 'This wine will be easy to taste young and will stay young for a long time,' he added, comparing this 2003 to the 1978 version in this respect. (ST)" (04/2005)

Captivating nose combines sappy dark raspberry, smoke and roast coffee. Lush, broad and dry, with firm acidity currently keeping the flavors under wraps. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Cailles" ((94-96RP), (92-95ST), 94BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Les Cailles comes across as cool, mineral infused and a bit reticent. With time in the glass the aromas and flavors begin to take shape. The Cailles remains a firm, structured Nuits that will require considerable patience, but its expressive fruit and gorgeous inner perfume bode very well for the future. Menthol, graphite, spices, tar and licorice wrap around the persistent, saline finish. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. I have to say, this is a stunning set of wines from Denis and Bertrand Chevillon. The Chevillons told me they were surprised by the quality of the wines given the challenges of the growing season. The 2010s saw 5-10 days of cold soak, followed by 15-21 days of cuvaison. The wines were aged on their lees in French oak barrels, 30% new for the top wines and less for the mid- and entry-le

There is terrific cut and precision to the pure, tight and chiseled medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a bone dry and driving finish of superb length. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (94RP, 93ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The opaque ruby/purple-colored 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape offers a profoundly sweet perfume of melted licorice, blackberries, and black cherries backed up by loads of glycerin, full body, and moderately high but sweet, well-integrated tannin. There is a seamlessness to the 2000 that will make it accessible early in life, and thus atypical for Beaucastel. The 1985 behaved in this manner when young, but the 2000 possesses even more stuffing. Like its 2001 sibling, it is a classic blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance other permitted varietals. (RP)" (11/2009)

Of the 2007 Camille Giroud Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Combe au Moine",Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "A very subtle hint of wood sets off very fresh, complex and rather sauvage red berry fruit aromas where this animale character also suffuses the richer and slightly more forward medium plus weight flavors blessed with solid dry extract levels that confer a textured mouth feel onto the less overtly mineral finish. While qualitatively similar to the Cazetiers, the two wines possess very different mouth feels and tannic structures. " (06/2007)

Of the 2009 Domaine Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Tasted out of barrel at the Domaine. The Gevrey Chambertin Village is a little reticent on the nose at first, touches bergamot inflecting the crisp dark cherry fruit, touches of limestone beginning to show through. The palate is fresh and lively on the entry, very good acidity with a sorbet-like freshness. Dark cherry, a touch of cassis and blueberry, firm backbone line the filigree finish. Excellent. 2009 Domaine Olivier Guyot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Champeaux"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Olivier Guyot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Champeaux". This wine is from Olivier Guyot. He is considered somewhat eccentric by some of his neighbors, as he has sold his tractor and gone back to horse farming his vineyards. He feels it is better for the land, and that he gets better fruit from doing so. The grapes are hand harvested, of course, and the wine is bottled without filtration. The domaine has passed from father to son since the 16th century, and the vines are 35 to 40 years old. Olivier punches the wine down 2 to 4 times per day for 14 days during fermentation to encourage maximum extraction and color. This is a big, focused Gevrey with ample flavor and color. Do not miss this exquisitely hand-crafted premier cru.

1996 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1996 Margaux, Margaux (99RP, 96ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Chateau Margaux, which was bottled in September 1998, is undoubtedly one of the great classics produced under the Mentzelopoulos regime. In many respects it is the quintessential Chateau Margaux, as well as the paradigm for this estate, combining measured power, extraordinary elegance, and admirable complexity. I tasted the wine of three separate occasions in January, and in short, it's a beauty! The color is opaque purple. The wine offers extraordinarily pure notes of blackberries, cassis, pain grille, and flowers, gorgeous sweetness, a seamless personality, and full body, with nothing out of place. (RP)" (04/1999)

1996 Domaine Joseph Roty Mazy-Chambertin,Grand Cru
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Domaine Joseph Roty Mazy-Chambertin,Grand Cru ((92-95RP), 92ST, 90BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This dark ruby-colored wine has sweet, perfumed, and spicy cherry aromas followed by an intense, highly-concentrated, powerful, and pure core of plums, cassis, stones, earth, and fresh herbs. This full-bodied, and well-proportioned wine offers briery notes of underbrush and a fine finish. (PR)" (08/1998)

1996 Mommessin Clos-de-Tart Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1996 Mommessin Clos-de-Tart Grand Cru . Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the pre-dinner vertical to mark Sylvain Pitiot's retirement from the domaine, the 1996 Clos de Tart Grand Cru - which was Sylvain Pitiot's debut vintage - has a surprisingly rich, licorice-tinged bouquet, although it does not have the charm or the pinoté of the 1997. This just seems a little 'forced' compared to others, and it seems to dry a little. The palate is medium-bodied and shows a little more class than the nose, grippy in the mouth with baking powder and white pepper notes, bay leaf and clove. There is a feral aspect to this Clos de Tart, yet there is decent length here. Drink this now and over the next decade. Tasted September 2015. (NM)" (10/2015)
