1999 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvee Nicolas François Billecart" NFB Brut Champagne Top Pick!
1999 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvee Nicolas François Billecart" NFB Brut Champagne

96 points James Suckling: "Fabulous aromas of minerals, pear pie, nuts with bread dough and apple character. Full-bodied, lively and wonderful with bright fruit and a clean finish. Very layered and juicy. This was a very hot year for Champagne and a year for Pinot Noir. But this is so fresh and complex. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. 10% of the Pinot is fermented in barrel. Drink now." (9/2014) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Very elegant, ethereal in texture and well-knit, offering flavors of poached pear, black licorice, lemon pâte de fruit, pastry and ground ginger. Shows fine balance and integration, with ...Read More »

2008 Veuve Clicquot Brut Rosé Champagne

About the producer: "The anchor, the Christian symbol for hope and rigour, was chosen in 1798 by Philippe Clicquot, the founder of the House, as the cork brand, the only distinguishing mark in the era before labels. As a symbol of hope, the anchor was a perfect emblem for a young entrepreneur with faith in the prosperity of his newly founded business. Madame Clicquot continued to use the same cork brand when she took over the running of the House in 1805. In keeping the anchor emblem throughout the centuries, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin remains faithful to ... Read More »

Drappier Carte d'Or Brut Champagne Magnum (1.5L)

90 points Wine Spectator: "Firm and chalky, this lively Champagne layers black currant, biscuit, lemon zest and grated ginger notes on an open-knit, fresh frame. (AN) (Web Only-2015)" Vinous: "Light yellow-gold. Pungent aromas of orange pith, dried apple and toasty lees, with a hint of chamomile in the background. Fleshy and broad on entry, then tighter in the middle, offering bitter pear skin and quinine flavors and a touch of blood orange. Finishes with good grip and cut, leaving a subtle smoky note behind. 2002 Thienot "Cuvée Alain Thiénot" Brut Champagne

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Rich and ripe, this wine shows a great balance between fresh, fragrant fruit and toasty hints of maturity. There's a soft feel on the palate, but a tangy, vibrant texture adds complexity to this very fine wine. (RV)" (12/2013) K&L Notes: Precious few 2002's are available these days- grab one of these when you can! This classy vintage Champagne is composed of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. Like all of the Thiénot vintage wines, this bottling is entirely estate grown from the family's nearly seventy acres of vines. The Alain Thiénot has so much aroma that I thought... Read More »

Franck Bonville Brut Rosé Champagne (1.5L)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Sleek and vinous in style, with a soft and creamy mousse and finely meshed flavors of steeped raspberry, ground anise, graphite and smoke. Offers a lightly savory finish of slivered almond and aromatic dried herb. Drink now through 2020. (AN)" (12/2015) K&L Notes: This little bottle of rosé is delicious! This is the first time we have had the rosé from Bonville, an estate that grows only Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs. 2008 Veuve Clicquot "Gold Label Reserve" Brut Champagne

93 points James Suckling: "Attractive creamy pastry notes and pithy lemon citrus fruits on offer here. There's also a gently nutty edge of autolysis, all locked in nice and fresh here. The palate's bright, crisp and has attractive fresh lemon and peach-fruit flavours. It's a really tidy and more chiselled vintage for this wine." (8/2016) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Very elegant, this is chiseled by racy acidity that's swathed in the refined, creamy mousse and flavors of crème de cassis, preserved lemon, biscuit and dried apricot. Long and lacy on the smoke-tinged, minerally finish. (AN, Web-2016)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Assembling 35% ...Read More »

2006 Louis Roederer Brut Nature Champagne

94 points James Suckling: "A delicious collaboration with France's guru designer of cool, this goes against the grain of Louis Roederer and has no dosage, making it very dry. It's dense and powerful with layers of fruit. It’s also full and almost spicy with a long and powerful finish. Soft texture too. If you closed your eyes, it tastes like a red. Starck actually was involved with the blend; he says it's so good you almost don't need the bottle. But the bottle makes it. A blend of two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay. No malo." Louis Roederer "Brut Premier" Champagne (1.5L)

92 points James Suckling: "Beautifully composed reduction across lemon citrus, white peach, cherries and deeper, more savory notes of spice and grilled nuts; fresh and complex at once. The palate's assertively flavored, yet runs on a smooth and fine textural thread. Acidity is paramount, redder fruits hold court here. Great balance and depth. Drink now." (7/2015) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "To judge by the cork, this bottling has some age, giving it a toasty as well as fruity character that adds complexity to this baked-apple and citrus-flavored wine. It also means that it needs no further aging and is delicio ...Read More »

2005 Michel Arnould Vintage "Carte d'Or" Brut Champagne (1.5L)

That's right- Patrick Arnould ages his vintage magnums four extra years on the lees over the 750's, and then charges you NOTHING for the extra time. Like many Champagne producers, he passionately believes this is the format to drink Champagne out of! Only 36 of these magnums were imported to the US. This wine is a blend of very old vine (50+ years) Verzenay Pinot Noir and Oger Chardonnay in equal proportions. The Chardonnay comes from Delphine Cazals, Olivier Bonville's wife, who trades Patrick for red wine so she can make rose. This is wine exclusively ... Read More »

Ariston Aspasie "Cepages d'Antan" Brut Champagne

This super rare bottling is made with some of the nearly extinct, native varietals of Champagne. It is composed of 40% Meslier, 40% Arbanne and 20% Pinot Blanc. I think it is the best of the excellent Ariston portfolio. The nose has only hints of exoticism; the overall impression is of rich cream and toast, but underneath is a hint of pine and exotic white fruit from the old varieties. On the palate the Champagne makes for a double take: it is very rich and textural, but finishes with a laser beam of chalky acidity that just goes on and on. It is fantast... Read More »

2009 Louis Roederer Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne

95 points Wine & Spirits: "From Roederer’s grand cru vineyards in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize and Cramant, this is a chardonnay that’s both ample in its flavor and quiet in its delivery. Broadened by long aging on the lees, almost tropical in its ripeness, this wine’s firm underlying acidity presents all the flavor with clarity, rising toward mineral notes in the finish. One taster suggested that it is rich enough to serve with foie gras on toast with plum jam." (12/2015) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Blanc de Blancs Vintage is mainly from Avize (80%), but chef de cave Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon is aiming fo ...Read More »

2008 Taittinger Brut Champagne

93 points James Suckling: "Taittinger's complexity is apparent here on the nose of this complex, rich and deeply powerful vintage Champagne. Flinty struck match reduction, toasty yeasty notes and bright lemon-infused citrus notes are all bursting from the glass amid savory, chalky minerals. The palate has a bold lemon citrus and peach fruit flavor to it, really saline, minerally and contained. Some glossy brulée-like notes to close. Drink now up to five years." (7/2015)

Tarlant "Cuvée Louis" Brut Champagne

94 points James Suckling: "This has a deeper gold-ish hue and plenty of autolysis-driven grilled nuts in addition to nougat and berry pastries. The palate has a chiseled, refined and chalky feel – compressed by age but very fresh still. It's smooth and made up of a delicate layering of elegant peaches and a light cherry finish. A Champagne that shows nice balance but is complex at the same time. Made from equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. A blend of 1996, '97, '98, '99 and 2000 vintages laid down on lees in 2001 and disgorged in 2015. Drink now." (10/2016) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Eq ...Read More »

2008 Alexandre Le Brun "Cuvée Dilection" Brut Rose Champagne Top Pick!
2008 Alexandre Le Brun "Cuvée Dilection" Brut Rose Champagne

Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a 9th generation winemaker. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and their cellars were built in 1822. The delectable Dilection is based on the incredible 2008 vintage with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Only French oak is used and the vineyard where the grapes are sourced was planted in 1902. It is rich but, classically dry with dark cherry and strawberry fruit on the finish, which lingers. (Scott Beckerley, K&L)

2005 Charles Heidsieck Brut Champagne

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Still very young, this holds great potential. Rich, full-bodied and densely structured, it is a wine first, sparkling second. Ripe apple and peach flavors partner with a strongly mineral texture. It needs to age more in bottle, so drink from 2016." (12/2014) 93 points James Suckling: "This has terrific composure, among the fresher and better-presented of the vintage in terms of aromas. It's toasty with grilled hazelnuts, chalky and flinty. Aromas are in the pithy grapefruit and dried peach spectrum, with lemon too. The palate's seamless, powerful and quite deeply ...Read More »

There is a translucence to the 2008 that is impossible to miss. Sweet rose petal, autumn leaves, tobacco, mint and licorice are woven together in an intricate fabric of aromas and textures. 2006 Pol Roger "Extra Cuvée de Réserve" Brut Champagne

Still young, the wine is still in the fruity spectrum and yet is very ready to drink now. The acidity and the link between the soft dosage and freshness are all in place. Drink now and until 2026. (RV)" (12/2015) 93 points James Suckling: "Pol's 2006 vintage is on form, showing attractive spicy red fruits, florals, and biscuity nutty characters. Billecart-Salmon Brut "Sous Bois" Champagne

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fermented in wood, this mature and rich Champagne is sophisticated and stylish. It has a rich, full-bodied character with hints of spice as well as dry, citrus fruits. It has a steely core, showing a taut texture as well as some maturity. Ready to drink, it will also age in bottle. (RV)" (12/2013) 94 points James Suckling: "Beautiful aromas of light butter, dough, cooked apples and apple purée. Full-bodied and very rich with plenty of fruit, intense nut, and light toasted oak. 2006 Pol Roger Brut Rosé Champagne

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The salmon color of the 2006 Rosé Brut with its pink and orange reflections is already magic and most probably unique. And then comes the nose: less subtle and discreet, but fine and elegant, deep, ripe and fleshy, with raw meat, nougat and licorice flavors intermingled with pure red berry (currant) and cherry aromas. Can you imagine this Rosé is based on the Réserve Brut (60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay)? 2006 Drappier "Grande Sendrée" Brut Champagne

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This vintage of Drappier’s top cuvée is showing signs of delicious maturity. With tropical fruits morphing into toast and ripe almonds, it’s a wine on the cusp of greatness. For now, there is still plenty of freshness there, tight acidity and the ripe character that’s typical of Champagnes from the Aube. (RV)" (12/2014) 93 points Wine Spectator: "An elegant version, with a smoky underpinning and finely knit flavors of black raspberry, candied kumquat, toasted almond and biscuit, layered with vivid acidity. 2006 Billecart-Salmon Vintage Extra Brut Champagne

This wine is crisp and tight, bringing out grapefruit and citrus flavors and a steely, mineral character. It is still young, with freshness dominant, and needs to mature to blossom into a very fine Champagne. Drink from 2018. (RV)" (12/2015) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Flavors of crunchy pear, pink grapefruit zest and ground ginger ride a lively bead set in a firm and toasty frame in this sleek Champagne. Smoky finish. Ariston Aspasie "Brut Prestige" Champagne (1.5L)

Champagne always tastes better out of magnum. Paul-Vincent Ariston says that his 25-year-old vines reflect the vintage, but the Prestige, made from vines averaging 60 years, reflect his terroir. He feels that putting a vintage date on this wine would be an insult to his best vineyard plots. This vineyard was destroyed by hail in 2002, so this is the last we'll ever see of the old vines. It is composed of 50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir and 25% Meunier. This was one of the best bottles from my 2010 trip, and we drank two just to make sure! It has fantastic... Read More »

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Krug’s NV Brut Grande Cuvee ID 112001 -- disgorged already over the winter of 2011-2012 but then further aged before release -- reinforces the belief that, thankfully, even wine lovers of modest means who occasionally splurge on Krug Grande Cuvee will be rewarded with a wine that need not fear comparison with this house’s more limited and far more expensive bottlings, nor for that matter with any other wines of Champagne. 2007 Delamotte Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

92 points Vinous: "Delamotte’s 2007 Blanc de Blancs is deep, fleshy and seductive, with lovely textural depth and nuance throughout. The 2007 is a relatively soft, open-knit Delamotte that will drink well upon release. I especially admire the wine's sense of balance and overall proportion, two of the many qualities that give the 2007 its considerable appeal. 2007 Michel Arnould "Cuvee B50" Brut Champagne

We have been advocates for small, estate-grown Champagne for two decades here at K&L, and I am a huge believer that wine produced on a human scale tastes better. When the owner of the property works the vines, makes the wines and drives the forklift, it takes the Champagne to another level of quality. Patrick Arnould is one of the best examples of this type of vigneron. His house, Champagne Michel Arnould, is our top Direct Import producer of dry, powerful Pinot-based Champagnes.
