1999 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvee Nicolas François Billecart" NFB Brut Champagne Top Pick!
1999 Billecart-Salmon "Cuvee Nicolas François Billecart" NFB Brut Champagne

96 points James Suckling: "Fabulous aromas of minerals, pear pie, nuts with bread dough and apple character. Full-bodied, lively and wonderful with bright fruit and a clean finish. Very layered and juicy. This was a very hot year for Champagne and a year for Pinot Noir. But this is so fresh and complex. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. 10% of the Pinot is fermented in barrel. Drink now." (9/2014) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Very elegant, ethereal in texture and well-knit, offering flavors of poached pear, black licorice, lemon pâte de fruit, pastry and ground ginger. Shows fine balance and integration, with ...Read More »

2002 Gosset "Celebris" Vintage Extra Brut Champagne Top Pick!
2002 Gosset "Celebris" Vintage Extra Brut Champagne

96 points Vinous: "Magnificent in its complexity and pure breeding, the 2002 Extra Brut Celebris has it all. The Extra Brut style confers the signature Gosset drive, while extended time on the lees has given the wine just enough texture and body to fill out nicely. In the meantime, the aromas and flavors have mellowed into those that are typical of Champagne entering the first plateau of its maturity. The 2002 is vinous, fleshy and super-expressive, yet retains striking freshness throughout. Candied lemon peel, apricot jam, honey, mint, spices and sage form a compelling fa ...Read More »

2007 Michel Arnould "Cuvee B50" Brut Champagne

Roger Voss' selection of the best grower-producers of Champagne: "Michel Arnould & Fils has 30 acres based around Verzenay on the Montagne de Reims. Pinot Noir dominates his production, of which the best are the Cuvée Carte d’Or and Grande Cuvée." If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger and Krug in the past, you may very much enjoy the bold Champagne of Michel Arnould.

Krug "Grande Cuvée" Brut Champagne (375ml)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Krug’s NV Brut Grande Cuvee ID 112001 -- disgorged already over the winter of 2011-2012 but then further aged before release -- reinforces the belief that, thankfully, even wine lovers of modest means who occasionally splurge on Krug Grande Cuvee will be rewarded with a wine that need not fear comparison with this house’s more limited and far more expensive bottlings, nor for that matter with any other wines of Champagne. The harmonious juxtaposition of creaminess and lees enrichment with bright, juicy citricity and of expansive richness with levity is s ...Read More »

2006 Louis Roederer Brut Nature Champagne

94 points James Suckling: "A delicious collaboration with France's guru designer of cool, this goes against the grain of Louis Roederer and has no dosage, making it very dry. It's dense and powerful with layers of fruit. It’s also full and almost spicy with a long and powerful finish. Soft texture too. If you closed your eyes, it tastes like a red. Starck actually was involved with the blend; he says it's so good you almost don't need the bottle. But the bottle makes it. A blend of two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay. No malo." Tarlant "Cuvée Louis" Brut Champagne

94 points Vinous: "Apricots, dried pears, spices, flowers, honey and hazelnuts meld together in the NV Cuvée Louis. Warm, toasty and resonant to the core, the 1999 is built on gorgeous breadth and pure volume. Readers who like rich, oxidative Champagnes will love the Cuvée Louis. This release is based on the 1999 vintage, with 15% reserve wine from the previous release (1998, 1997, 1996), equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. (AG)" (5/2014) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this is a powerfully rich wine based on the 1998 and 1997 vintage. It is full ...Read More »

2005 Michel Arnould Vintage "Carte d'Or" Brut Champagne (1.5L)

That's right- Patrick Arnould ages his vintage magnums four extra years on the lees over the 750's, and then charges you NOTHING for the extra time. Like many Champagne producers, he passionately believes this is the format to drink Champagne out of! Only 36 of these magnums were imported to the US. This wine is a blend of very old vine (50+ years) Verzenay Pinot Noir and Oger Chardonnay in equal proportions. The Chardonnay comes from Delphine Cazals, Olivier Bonville's wife, who trades Patrick for red wine so she can make rose. This is wine exclusively ... Read More »

2008 Veuve Clicquot Brut Rosé Champagne

About the producer: "The anchor, the Christian symbol for hope and rigour, was chosen in 1798 by Philippe Clicquot, the founder of the House, as the cork brand, the only distinguishing mark in the era before labels. As a symbol of hope, the anchor was a perfect emblem for a young entrepreneur with faith in the prosperity of his newly founded business. Madame Clicquot continued to use the same cork brand when she took over the running of the House in 1805. In keeping the anchor emblem throughout the centuries, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin remains faithful to ... Read More »

2005 Charles Heidsieck Brut Champagne

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Still very young, this holds great potential. Rich, full-bodied and densely structured, it is a wine first, sparkling second. Ripe apple and peach flavors partner with a strongly mineral texture. It needs to age more in bottle, so drink from 2016." (12/2014) 93 points James Suckling: "This has terrific composure, among the fresher and better-presented of the vintage in terms of aromas. It's toasty with grilled hazelnuts, chalky and flinty. Aromas are in the pithy grapefruit and dried peach spectrum, with lemon too. The palate's seamless, powerful and quite deeply ...Read More »

2006 Pol Roger Brut Rosé Champagne

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The salmon color of the 2006 Rosé Brut with its pink and orange reflections is already magic and most probably unique. And then comes the nose: less subtle and discreet, but fine and elegant, deep, ripe and fleshy, with raw meat, nougat and licorice flavors intermingled with pure red berry (currant) and cherry aromas. Can you imagine this Rosé is based on the Réserve Brut (60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay)? It is, but before the bottling and second fermentation, approximately 15% of still red wine (Pinot Noir) from the crus of the Montagne de Reims is adde ...Read More »

Billecart-Salmon Brut "Sous Bois" Champagne

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fermented in wood, this mature and rich Champagne is sophisticated and stylish. It has a rich, full-bodied character with hints of spice as well as dry, citrus fruits. It has a steely core, showing a taut texture as well as some maturity. Ready to drink, it will also age in bottle. (RV)" (12/2013) 94 points James Suckling: "Beautiful aromas of light butter, dough, cooked apples and apple purée. Full-bodied and very rich with plenty of fruit, intense nut, and light toasted oak. 2002 Thienot "Cuvée Alain Thiénot" Brut Champagne

Precious few 2002's are available these days- grab one of these when you can! This classy vintage Champagne is composed of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. Like all of the Thiénot vintage wines, this bottling is entirely estate grown from the family's nearly seventy acres of vines. The Alain Thiénot has so much aroma that I thought it would be a giant Champagne from smelling the walnut bread and dark cherry fruit that was jumping from the glass. On the palate this is a very balanced wine with great clarity of flavor and a light bead. The long aging of ... Read More »

2010 Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Champagne

96 points Wine & Spirits: "Roederer invested in a separate winery to produce its rosé, the facility completed in 2007, taking its classic saignée method wines to a new level. An estate-grown blend of pinot noir from the clay soils of Cumières with chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs, this is an extraordinary vintage of Roederer Rosé. It’s a lithe wine, compelling for its precision rather than for any stylized complexity. In fact, it feels simple, naked, capturing the freshness of the grapes in pale pink energy. The transparent cherry and Honeycrisp apple flavors are inherently bal ...Read More »

2006 Drappier "Grande Sendrée" Brut Champagne

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This vintage of Drappier’s top cuvée is showing signs of delicious maturity. With tropical fruits morphing into toast and ripe almonds, it’s a wine on the cusp of greatness. For now, there is still plenty of freshness there, tight acidity and the ripe character that’s typical of Champagnes from the Aube. (RV)" (12/2014) 93 points Wine Spectator: "An elegant version, with a smoky underpinning and finely knit flavors of black raspberry, candied kumquat, toasted almond and biscuit, layered with vivid acidity. Long and lacy on the lightly spiced finish. Disgorged February 2014. (AN) ...Read More »

Only 200 cases were imported for the whole USA! 51% Chardonnay and 49% Pinot Noir. Tasting notes from the producer: "A light shade of powder pink, clear and bright, with abundant bubbles. Subtle, it is fresh and refined, revealing delicate aromas of strawberries, raspberries, blood orange and blackcurrant. Ariston Aspasie "Cepages d'Antan" Brut Champagne

This super rare bottling is made with some of the nearly extinct, native varietals of Champagne. It is composed of 40% Meslier, 40% Arbanne and 20% Pinot Blanc. I think it is the best of the excellent Ariston portfolio. The nose has only hints of exoticism; the overall impression is of rich cream and toast, but underneath is a hint of pine and exotic white fruit from the old varieties. On the palate the Champagne makes for a double take: it is very rich and textural, but finishes with a laser beam of chalky acidity that just goes on and on. It is fantast... Read More »

Louis Roederer "Brut Premier" Champagne (1.5L)

92 points James Suckling: "Beautifully composed reduction across lemon citrus, white peach, cherries and deeper, more savory notes of spice and grilled nuts; fresh and complex at once. The palate's assertively flavored, yet runs on a smooth and fine textural thread. Acidity is paramount, redder fruits hold court here. Great balance and depth. Drink now." (7/2015) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "To judge by the cork, this bottling has some age, giving it a toasty as well as fruity character that adds complexity to this baked-apple and citrus-flavored wine. It also means that it needs no further aging and is delicio ...Read More »

Drink now through 2025." (11/2013) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a 50/50 blend of chardonnay and pinot noir; L34140): Bright gold. 2006 Billecart-Salmon Vintage Extra Brut Champagne

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Billecart-Salmon’s style is dry, so an Extra Brut will be almost bone-dry. This wine is crisp and tight, bringing out grapefruit and citrus flavors and a steely, mineral character. It is still young, with freshness dominant, and needs to mature to blossom into a very fine Champagne. Drink from 2018. (RV)" (12/2015) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Flavors of crunchy pear, pink grapefruit zest and ground ginger ride a lively bead set in a firm and toasty frame in this sleek Champagne. Smoky finish. Fleury Blanc de Noirs Brut Champagne (1.5L)

90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A relatively deeply pitched nose that is heavy on the yeast with light notes of strawberry and raspberry and introduces rich, full and complex flavors that offer plenty of depth in a more rounded style on the crisp and dry but not racy finish. This will best please those who want a fuller style Champagne that is basically ready to drink now even though it could easily be enjoyably held for a few years. Good quality here." Ariston Aspasie "Brut Prestige" Champagne (1.5L)

Champagne always tastes better out of magnum. Paul-Vincent Ariston says that his 25-year-old vines reflect the vintage, but the Prestige, made from vines averaging 60 years, reflect his terroir. He feels that putting a vintage date on this wine would be an insult to his best vineyard plots. This vineyard was destroyed by hail in 2002, so this is the last we'll ever see of the old vines. It is composed of 50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir and 25% Meunier. This was one of the best bottles from my 2010 trip, and we drank two just to make sure! It has fantastic... Read More »

Supple and expansive, offering vibrant citrus fruit and red berry flavors with complicating notes of cinnamon and pear skin. Finishes silky and long, with resonating spiciness and excellent clarity." I especially admire the wine's sense of balance and overall proportion, two of the many qualities that give the 2007 its considerable appeal.
