2009 Louise Brison Vintage Brut Champagne Top Pick!
2009 Louise Brison Vintage Brut Champagne

If you liked the 2008, you are going to love the 2009 from Brison! This Champagne is composed of half Chardonnay, entirely barrel fermented, and one-half Pinot Noir that was fermented in two-thirds stainless and one-third barrel. This Champagne has perfect texture, medium body and a spectacular bead of compact streamers. It has aromas and flavors of cream, nuts and white fruit, and a very detailed, mineral-driven finish. It finishes quite dry, but I would never guess how little sugar has been added—only three grams per liter! The warm, ripe 2009 vintage ... Read More »

2006 Baron Fuente "Grand Millesime" Brut Champagne

91 points Wine Spectator: "Firm and focused, this structured version offers a well-meshed range of dried apricot, almond biscotti and cassis flavors, showing a clean chalkiness to the texture. Drink now through 2026." (3/2014) K&L Notes: Baron Fuente is a négociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied," meaning that they pick the grapes. This is an important distinction since many négociants buy "sur lattes," meaning in bottle! The Grand Millésimé is a blend of 45% Chardonnay, 40% Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir that spent more than seven years on the lees. (G... Read More »

It is partially barrel-fermented, mostly with old Burgundy barrels, but also some barrels from oak grown right there on the Petite Montagne. It is composed of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. 2006 Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne Top Pick!
2006 Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne

97 points Vinous: "The 2006 Dom Pérignon is a beautifully balanced, harmonious Dom Pérignon that strikes an incredibly appealing stylistic middle ground. Rich, voluptuous and creamy, the 2006 shows off fabulous intensity in a style that brings together the ripeness of 2002 with the greater sense of verve and overall freshness that is such a signature of the 2004. Bass notes and a feeling of phenolic grip on the finish recall the 2003, as the Pinot Noir is particularly expressive today. Rich, powerful and enveloping, the 2007 takes hold of all the senses and never lets up. 2008 Bruno Michel "Les Brousses" 1er Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

This gem of a blanc de blancs is in fact a single-vineyard wine from the "Les Brousses" parcel in the Premier Cru village of Pierry, immediately to the south of Epernay. The vineyard is a massal selection (not made from cloned vines) that was planted in 1964. It is given full barrel fermentation in old oak. Like many of the talented Mr. Bruno "the Mayor" Michel's Champagnes, this wine manages to combine friendly breadth and creamy yumminess with top-notch minerality and length... What a wine! The Extra Brut style confers the signature Gosset drive, while extended time on the lees has given the wine just enough texture and body to fill out nicely. In the meantime, the aromas and flavors have mellowed into those that are typical of Champagne entering the first plateau of its maturity. This is wine exclusively for the patient, as the two terroirs that have come together in this bottle need a lot of time to marry. 2008 Veuve Clicquot Brut Rosé Champagne

About the producer: "The anchor, the Christian symbol for hope and rigour, was chosen in 1798 by Philippe Clicquot, the founder of the House, as the cork brand, the only distinguishing mark in the era before labels. As a symbol of hope, the anchor was a perfect emblem for a young entrepreneur with faith in the prosperity of his newly founded business. Madame Clicquot continued to use the same cork brand when she took over the running of the House in 1805. In keeping the anchor emblem throughout the centuries, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin remains faithful to ... Read More »

2002 Krug "Clos du Mesnil" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

98 points Wine Spectator: "A lovely, lacy Champagne, with ripe apricot, fennel seed and espresso aromas. This caresses the palate with a finely detailed mousse and expansive flavors of pineapple pâte de fruit, toasted brioche, fleur de sel and grated ginger. Long and chalky on the finish, this is a prima ballerina, showing power cloaked in grace. Disgorged winter 2015. (AN, Insider - 08/2016)" 96 points Vinous: "The 2002 Clos du Mesnil is brilliant right out of the gate. Vibrant, focused and crystalline, the 2002 hits all the right notes. Lemon peel, grapefruit, slate and white flowers give the 2002 i ...Read More »

2005 Fleury "Cuveé Robert Fleury" Extra Brut Champagne

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The barrel-fermented 2005 Robert Fleury Millésime Extra Brut is a blend of 30% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Blanc, 25% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier that was aged under natural cork until the disgorgement in October 2015. Very rich and intense on the nose where ripe fruits with honey and wax flavors are displayed, this is a full-bodied, pure and elegant, finesse-full and tension-filled Champagne. It has a very salty and persistently mineral finish. (SR)" (6/2016) K&L Notes: Barrel-fermented Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Blanc, which is a real rarity in Champagne--it only e... 2006 Fluteau "Symbiose" Brut Champagne

90 points Wine Spectator: "A lithe version from 2006, with a floral overtone, a lively bead and a subtle range of green melon, ground anise and star fruit flavors. A hint of smoke lingers on the clean-cut finish. Drink now through 2021. (Web-2015, AN)" K&L Notes: Made entirely from estate-grown fruit, the Symbiose is composed of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir from Gye-Sur-Seine in the southernmost part of Champagne. This wine is so clean, subtle and balanced that it will be finished before you know it. I think that is embodies all the best traits of this very good vintage; it is vibrant, pu... Read More »

2007 Michel Loriot "Monodie Meunier" Extra Brut Champagne

This is the new vintage of the Meunier old vines, previously called "Pinot Meunier Vieilles Vignes," with a new name, "Monodie Meunier." This stunning, single-vineyard Champagne is one of the best we carry at K&L. It comes from the l'Arpent vineyard, which is slightly less than one acre in the village of Festigny. The vines were planted in 1942 and come from an old massal selection of Meunier. Michel Loriot makes only 3,000 or 4,000 bottles of this, his top wine, in vintages that he considers good enough. Otherwise this juice goes into the other blends. ... Read More »

2005 Charles Heidsieck Brut Champagne

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Still very young, this holds great potential. Rich, full-bodied and densely structured, it is a wine first, sparkling second. Ripe apple and peach flavors partner with a strongly mineral texture. It needs to age more in bottle, so drink from 2016." (12/2014) 93 points James Suckling: "This has terrific composure, among the fresher and better-presented of the vintage in terms of aromas. It's toasty with grilled hazelnuts, chalky and flinty. Aromas are in the pithy grapefruit and dried peach spectrum, with lemon too. The palate's seamless, powerful and quite deeply ...Read More »
