This estate has been in Michel Loriot's family for 12 generations, since 1675. From the winery: "Michel has inherited two passions from his family: music and vines, as well as the family’s pioneering spirit. The music, which is played in the vineyards and the cellars, has a real effect on the vines and on the yeast in the wine. Thanks to this the Champagne is enriched with more complex and more refined aromas. The Apollonis estate covers 7 hectares in Festigny and has been awarded HVE (High Environmental Value) certification in recognition of the care an... Read More »
Wine Enthusiast: "This is the main non-vintage wine from this southern Champagne Aube-based producer. It’s a cuvée based around the producer’s specialty of Pinot Noir. With fresh acidity over rich white fruits, apples and pears, it is balanced, fragrant and ready to drink." (9/2015) Wine Spectator: "A modest version, with a smoky undertow and a tangy palate of kumquat, melon and lemon curd. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 5,980 cases made. (Web Only - 2015)" K&L Notes: This all Pinot Noir Champagne is a blend of many small plots on the Josselin estate in Gye-Sur-Seine. It is aged for thr... Read More »
Also a 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this is aged for five years and treated with a low dosage to preserve its crisp character. Producer's tasting note: "Intense, rich with great length and breadth. Attractive on the eye, wonderfully fresh on the palate and highly perfumed. Aromas of pear melt into a lovely, round, gingerbread sensation on the tongue. Good structure, tightly integrated and an excellent match with fish."
This Champagne is 1/3 each Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier from 25-30 year old vineyards on the Ariston estate in Brouillet.
90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright yellow. Fresh orange and pear aromas are complicated by chamomile, honey, herbs and fresh porcini. Sappy and expansive on the palate, offering intense orchard fruit flavors braced by gentle acidity. A smoky, leesy nuance lingers on the long, supple finish. Drinking well now and showing good complexity. (JR)" (11/2012) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This Champagne exhibits both the freshness of the vintage and a sense of toasty maturity. Baked apple aromas are touched with notes of almonds and cookies. The palate is substantially weighty with a density of flavors and a rich, full ...Read More »
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a Pinot Noir-dominated wine, with intense acidity as well as attractive, rich white fruits. There is a touch of maturity, of ripeness that gives the wine a full-bodied character. Add in some toastiness and this is a well-integrated wine that’s ready to drink. -RV" (9/2015)
Made entirely from estate-grown fruit, the Symbiose is composed of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir from Gye-Sur-Seine in the southernmost part of Champagne. This wine is so clean, subtle and balanced that it will be finished before you know it. I think that is embodies all the best traits of this very good vintage; it is vibrant, pure and best of all, classically styled Champagne. I plan on putting a case in the cellar for myself! Le Brun was named Champagne Producer of the Year, 2015 International Wine & Spirit Competition. This Champagne is made in the Seazanne, a terroir within Champagne whose product is rarely seen in the U.S. It is composed of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir and is aged for five years on the lees. This sur-lee aging is done on a cork rather that a crown cap, a process usually reserved for much more expensive wines, most famously Bollinger vintage. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
