2014 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis

88-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is even more typical Chablis character to the cool and restrained nose that is compositionally similar but with even more citrus elements. Here too there is very good volume to the textured and dense middle weight flavors that deliver plenty of minerality and salinity on the lingering finish. This should make for a fine villages." (10/2015) 88-91 points Vinous: "Pale yellow-green. Aromatic scents of lemon, lime, flowers, mint and minerals. Sweet and rich but with a biting citrussy character that reminded me of a 2010. Some unabsorbed CO2 contributes energy to this pineapp ...Read More »

2014 Domaine Long-Depaquit (Albert Bichot) Chablis

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A ripe and fresh nose expresses moderate Chablis character on the pretty nose that is composed of pear, apple and citrus scents. There is good volume and richness to the seductively textured medium weight flavors that possess just enough energy and acidity to suggest that this should reward a few years of cellaring." (10/2015) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale yellow. Lime, peppermint and a touch of spice on the fresh, restrained, slightly metallic nose. Bright notes of white pepper and fresh herbs give thrust to the middle palate, with some unabsorbed CO2 making the wine hard to asse ...Read More »

2012 Domaine des Malandes Petit Chablis

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "**Outstanding Top Value!** There is plenty of Chablis character to the perfumed green fruit aromas that lead to attractively well-detailed and energetic flavors that culminate in a fresh, cool, crisp and salty finish that is markedly dry. This offers very good quality for the genre. Lyne Marchive directs this 25 ha Domaine along with régisseur and enologist Guénolé Breteaudeau. Her comments about the 2012 vintage were that 'it was a capricious growing season full of extremes that included frost, hail and baking heat. We went from a 20° F April where the ...Read More »

2014 Domaine de Biéville (Louis Moreau) Chablis Back In Stock! Top Pick!
2014 Domaine de Biéville (Louis Moreau) Chablis

This estate is owned by Louis and Anne Moreau, who farm it with great care. They have stopped using all pesticides, reduced herbicides, and started plowing between rows instead of spraying. The vines here are almost 50 years old. The Bieville is always a bit rounder and richer in character than their Louis Moreau Chablis, but retains the same sense of freshness and bright minerality to accompany the lovely floral notes.

2008 La Chablisienne Chablis "Les Venerables" Vieilles Vignes

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A classic nose of iodine and sea water influences adds plenty of nuance to the green fruit nose that complements fresh, bright and intense flavors that possess both good volume and fine mid-palate fat before giving way to a long, saline and sappy finish that is bone dry. Good quality for its level." (10/2010) Wine Spectator: "Grace notes of brine and oyster shell add depth to the lemon, green plum and mineral flavors in this firmly structured, savory white. Nice finish, too. (Web Only—2010)"

2010 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis-Bougros Grand Cru (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2010 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis-Bougros Grand Cru (Pre-Arrival)

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Don't miss!* A restrained nose of citrus, floral, mineral reduction and algae slides into impressively rich, powerful, serious and concentrated flavors that are almost painfully intense on the explosive and strikingly long finish. This is a classic Bougros with its robust and muscular big-bodied flavors." (10/2011) 93 points Wine & Spirits: "With 10.18 acres, Fèvre owns one-third of this grand cru, a southwest-facing hillside that produced a spherical wine locked in a Kimmeridgian limestone shell. Aromas of lemon and lime zest, white pepper and crushed rock. Quite dry and backward on the palate, with a distinctly metallic, austere quality to its crushed-rock minerality. A touch of musky reduction blew off to reveal sappy grapefruit and flint on the finish. 2013 Domaine Christian Moreau Chablis 1er Cru "Vaillons"

Acidity comes from the cooler location of the vineyard, while the warmth of the summer shows through in the yellow fruits as well as in the fresh, crunchy red apples. A textured edge conveys minerality and leaves a fresh, clean taste in the mouth. Drink from 2017." 2014 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin 1er Cru Chablis "Montée de Tonnerre" (Pre-Arrival)

Since the year 1620, fourteen generations of the Droin family have passed their winemaking tradition on to the next. Since 1999, all vinification has taken place at a modern wine facility built below the Grand Cru vineyards in Chablis, where they hold more than 4 hectares of vines. Grape clusers are handled very gently before pressing and the wine is matured in vats and neutral oak before bottling almost exactly one year after harvest. In recent years, this wine has scored in the low to mid-90s with the critics.

Once again there is excellent richness to the intense and markedly mineral-inflected flavors that possess plenty of saline character on the dry, long and seductive finale. This is really quite stylish and classy." (10/2015) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is linear, granitic and slightly smoky on the nose – uncompromising, and what you might call quintessential Chablis aromatics. Remarkably for a wine that is relatively quite refined, the medium-bodied and concentrated flavors are even more powerful than those of the Bougros, all wrapped in a superbly complex, saline and balanced finish where the citrus character telegraphed by the nose reappears on the explosive finale. This had only finished its malolactic three weeks prior to my tasting. Perhaps as a consequence of that the nose is stubborn and backward. Creamy, tactile and large-scaled, showing superb energy to its mineral, mint and spice flavors. Began a bit disjointed but harmonized nicely and opened in the glass. In 2011, Louis Michel’s Clos doesn’t have the seductiveness of other versions, instead it is direct and powerful. (8/2012) 93 points Vinous: "The 2011 Chablis Vaudesir is another highlight in this set of 2011s from Louis Michel. Here the aromas and flavors are just a touch forward, which adds considerable complexity and nuance to the wine's big, structured frame. Hints of hazelnut, orange peel ...Read More »

2014 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis Grand Cru "Vaudesir" (Pre-Arrival)

91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As it usually is this is riper with hints of white peach and pear on the notes of mineral reduction, iodine and shellfish. There is excellent richness to the concentrated broad-shouldered flavors that exhibit absolutely no sense of heaviness as there is a firm core of acidity providing for both balance and structure on the intensely mineral-driven finish that is more refined than the description would suggest. In a word, impressive." (10/2015) 91-94 points Vinous: "Pale lemon-yellow. Fresh, inviting aromas of lime, nectarine, white peach, menthol, mint and fresh herbs. Dense, s ...Read More »

2014 Samuel Billaud Chablis 1er Cru "Les Fourneaux" (Pre-Arrival)

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A ripe and attractively complex nose offers up notes of citrus, pear, apple, ocean breeze and a smoky hint. The complexity continues onto the rich, powerful and solidly well-concentrated flavors that possess excellent length on the balanced finish. This is an impressive effort that should drink well young and aged." (10/2015) 90-93 points Vinous: "(from purchased grapes from 40-year-old vines, farmed organically for the last several years): Pale yellow-green. Aromas of crystallized lemon peel and white pepper are lifted by a minty nuance. Tightly wound and brisk, showing almost ...Read More »

2013 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis 1er Cru "Vaulorent"

91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is more aromatically complex still with its broad-ranging nose of floral, pear, citrus peel, apple and tidal pool scents. There is a really lovely sense of underlying tension to the concentrated and sleekly muscular flavors that possess excellent depth on the balanced, harmonious and decidedly dry finish. This too is a wine of class and grace." (10/2014) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Vaulorent is on the same slope as the Grand Crus, giving it an extra structure. Very ripe and forward, this wine shows both power and the approachability of the vintage. It has plenty of freshness whi ...Read More »

2013 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru "Valmur"

92-95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale, green-tinged yellow. Lemon, lime, white pepper, menthol, botanical herbs and powdered stone on the enticing nose and palate. Densely packed, chewy and tactile; a bit smaller-scaled than the Vaudesir but strong integrated acidity perfectly balances the wine's sweetness and gives the palate outstanding cut. The very long, palate-staining finish conveys a strong impression of dusty extract. Great potential here." (7/2014) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is the coolest and freshest of the Grand Cru vineyards. The wine is tight, steely with a nervy core of acidity that gives it ...Read More »

2014 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru "Bougros" (Pre-Arrival)

92-94 points Vinous: "Very pale green-tinged yellow. Lovely perfumed lift to the aromas of pink grapefruit and white flowers. Dense, saline and sweet; concentrated, rich and ripe but with lovely tension and tactile dusty-stone minerality to its grapefruit and ginger flavors. Picked at the perfect time, as Bougros harvested too late can be heavy. Serious but not austere, and very long on the aftertaste. Stephen Tanzer writing for Vinous" (8/2015) 90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A subtle touch of wood sets off the restrained and all but mute nose where about the only identifiable aromas are green fruit and alga ...Read More »

2014 Patrick Piuze Chablis 1er Cru "Montée de Tonnerre"

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This was so strongly reduced that it was impossible to read the nose and the funk carries over to the petrol-infused, muscular and concentrated flavors that are hugely long but quite awkward and not particularly well-balanced. My projected range is based mostly on how good the underlying material seems to be but I am noting this with a question mark because there is no guarantee that it will clean up properly." (10/2015) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre has a stony, cold flint, austere bouquet, the most introspective of Piuze's wines this year. ...Read More »
