2005 Fleur Cardinale, St-Emilion Top Pick!
2005 Fleur Cardinale, St-Emilion

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This beautiful wine from Fleur Cardinale performed great in its youth, both from barrel as well as post-bottling. A gorgeous blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon made by the Decoster family, the 2005 provides more evidence that this property is fully exploiting its tremendous potential. A few years away from reaching its plateau of maturity, its stunning nose of black cherry liqueur, cassis, licorice, earth and spice is followed by a full-bodied, concentrated and pure wine. Drink it over the next 15 or more years. (RP) ...Read More »

2005 Les Grands Chenes, Médoc

90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark in color, with black licorice, currant and blackberry aromas that follow through to a full body, with beautiful ripe berry character and round, velvety tannins. There's wonderful balance to this wine. Best after 2012. (JS)" (3/2008) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An excellent wine from Bernard Magrez and his brilliant back-up oenologist Michel Rolland, the 2005 Les Grands Chênes is a blend of 55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. The wine displays loads of supple tannin and notes of blackcurrants, coffee and forest floor. Medium-bodied, concentrated, and delicio ...Read More »

2005 Fontenil, Fronsac (1.5L)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the home estate of Dany and Michel Rolland, the 2005 Fontenil has an opaque, thick ruby/purple color. Dense plum, black cherry, blackberry and cassis fruit jump from the glass of this full-bodied, terrific Fronsac, which is one of the appellation’s stars of the vintage. Long, rich, young, and capable of lasting another 15-20 years, this is one of the candidates for Wine of the Vintage in Fronsac. This wine actually needs another several years of bottle age. 2005 Beaulieu Comtes de Tastes, Bordeaux Supérieur

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Always one of my favorite wines, this blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon from 37 acres of vineyard in the southern part of the Médoc is a surprisingly large-scaled wine in 2005. Dense ruby/purple, this is certainly the most concentrated, largest-framed and muscular Beaulieu I have ever tasted. Rich, concentrated and cedary, with notes of fruitcake, black cherries and blackcurrants, this wine is a beauty and a major sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 5-6 years. 2005 Lagrange, St-Julien Back In Stock!
2005 Lagrange, St-Julien

96 points James Suckling: "Stunning now. A fabulous nose of currants, crushed raspberry and blackberry. Full- bodied, with perfectly integrated tannins and a long, caressing finish. Drink or hold." (7/2014) 94 points Wine & Spirits: "Lagrange produced a joyous cabernet in 2005, with the lovely textural fatness and kindness of tannin that places it clearly in St-Julien. The dark fruit has youthful energy, the tannins a woodsy undertone, like biting into a fresh grilled porcini. The purity of the flavor makes it delicious; that fruit purity is the factor distinguishing the best wines of the vintage. In the case ...Read More »

Second wine of Ducru." (4/2012) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The second wine, the sensational 2005 Croix de Beaucaillou, is the finest example of this cuvee I have ever tasted. Sweet black raspberry and black cherry fruit aromas soar from the glass of this open-knit seductress. A dense ruby/purple color, beautiful full-bodied, lush, expansive flavors, low acidity, and sweet tannin suggest this lovely cuvee should be drunk over the next 1 ...Read More »

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An outstanding sleeper of the vintage, the 2005 may turn out to be one of the finest examples yet of this modern-styled St.-Emilion. Nicely oaked, ripe but not over-ripe, it possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as sweet scents of pain grille, kirsch liqueur, and black currants. Ripe, medium to full-bodied, and rich, with good glycerin as well as freshness, and a long, heady finish, this succulent offering should be enjoyed over the next 10-15 years." (4/2006)

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Possibly the youngest wine of all the 2005 Médocs in terms of its evolution, at age 10 the inky purple 2005 Pontet-Canet tastes more like a two-year-old wine. Loads of pure blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit are present along with a hint of licorice and background oak. It is full-bodied, ripe, and excruciatingly fresh, vigorous and exuberant. Soft tannin, full-bodied opulence and beautifully textured, lush richness, make for a brilliant wine from this large, 180-acre vineyard. Loads of pure blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit are present along with a hint of licorice and background oak. It is full-bodied, ripe, and excruciatingly fresh, vigorous and exuberant. This is a tour de force, and a sensational effort that rivals the first growths. Give it another 5-10 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 30-40 years. 2005 Rauzan-Gassies, Margaux

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Solid, dry tannins, very firm and hard, but they are also ripe. The wine has high extraction, very dark fruit flavors, but resists being too huge. This could well turn out to be a very elegant. (RV)" (6/2006) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Significantly better from bottle than it was from barrel, the 2005 Rauzan-Gassies appears to be the finest wine this estate has ever produced. Dense purple-hued with a beautiful perfume of camphor, creme de cassis, licorice, bay leaf, and incense, it is a full-bodied, stunningly concentrated, broad, rich Margaux with lovely integrated tannins. 2005 La Fleur, Saint Emilion

91 points Wine Spectator: "Dark ruby in color, almost purple. Shows intense blackberry, with mineral, fresh tobacco and cigar box aromas. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a long, pretty finish. Best after 2012. (JS)" (3/2008) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A surprisingly powerful wine for La Fleur, which is better known for its light, fruity, flowery style of wines, their 2005 is super-concentrated, with loads of minerality, moderately high tannins, and impressive extract and richness. Forget this wine for another 3-4 years, and drink it over the following 15. (RP)" (6/2015)

2005 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan (1.5L)

93 points Wine Spectator: "Displays floral, blackberry and mineral aromas, with a hint of fresh tobacco. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a long, caressing finish. Has a fine, polished texture. This is a class act--the best since 1998 for the red." (3/2008) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Perhaps the finest wine made at this estate in many years (no doubt due to the influence of wine consulting guru Stephane Derenoncourt), the 2005 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest primarily Merlot with tiny portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A dark ruby/purple hue is followed by a classic Graves ...Read More »

2005 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan (3L)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A glorious wine from Domaine de Chevalier, this 2005 reveals notes of graphite, subtle charcoal, blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a long, multi-dimensional finish. This is a killer effort from the Bernard family, who own this famous terroir in Pessac-Léognan. Drink it over the next 20-30 years. (RP)" (6/2015) 94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a blend of 55% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 6% petit verdot and 4% cabernet franc; 13.3% alcohol): Saturated medium-deep ruby. Rather backward but extremely complex nose hints at cassis, blac ...Read More »

2005 Chateau Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (1.5L) 6-pack in OWC

96 points Wine & Spirits: "Baron was trapped in its oak en primeur, seeming flashy, luscious and soft. Now bottled and shipped, it has the unremitting tannic power of the vintage, balanced by unrelenting purity of fruit that somehow manages to anesthetize the monstrous tannin, to soften the extremely dry, mineral-bound finish into a caress. The wine may be bombastic, but it's also succulent and as sweet as a ripe black raspberry. It's easy to imagine this wine 50 years from now, in impeccable condition." (10/2008) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* A great, classic Pauillac, with its dark, dense, ...Read More »
