2005 Coufran, Haut-Médoc Top Pick!
2005 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel sample. If you're looking for great, ripe black currant fruits, this is where to come. The wine is full and hugely fruity, but it still manages a good Bordeaux sense of proportion." (6/2006) Jancis Robinson: "Smokiness dominates the nose at the moment but there’s still evidence of fresh and aromatic cassis underneath. Rich and yet juicy. A slightly leafy aftertaste may not to be everyone’s taste but it does finish fresh. (JH)" (12/2007) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Coufran is much more concentrated than normal, with a big, rich, black cherry, earthy, spicy mouthfeel. 2005 Fourcas Hosten, Listrac

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Still young, with its dry tannins, this is a wine that has developed depth and concentration over the last 3-4 years. It has power, the berry fruits driving through the structure to give a layered, attractive, serious finish. (RV)" (6/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep ruby/plum/purple, with more sweetness to its fruit than normal, the 2005 Fourcas Hosten displays minerality, earth, spice, blackcurrants, and touches of oak and forest notes. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (96W&S, 96WE, 94ST, 94WS, 93RP). Wine Enthusiast: " *Cellar Selection* A great, classic Pauillac, with its dark, dense, almost black currant flavors stirred together with immense tannins. The layers of dryness, fresh fruits, acidity and ripeness are all coming together into a magnificent structure. Age for at least 20 years." (06/2008)

2005 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac

96 points Wine & Spirits: "Baron was trapped in its oak en primeur, seeming flashy, luscious and soft. Now bottled and shipped, it has the unremitting tannic power of the vintage, balanced by unrelenting purity of fruit that somehow manages to anesthetize the monstrous tannin, to soften the extremely dry, mineral-bound finish into a caress. The wine may be bombastic, but it's also succulent and as sweet as a ripe black raspberry. It's easy to imagine this wine 50 years from now, in impeccable condition." Harmonious balance between ripe, dark fruit, integrated oak, and chewy tannins. Attractive. Drink 2013-18." Second wine of Ducru." (4/2012) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The second wine, the sensational 2005 Croix de Beaucaillou, is the finest example of this cuvee I have ever tasted. Sweet black raspberry and black cherry fruit aromas soar from the glass of this open-knit seductress. 2005 Lanessan, Haut-Médoc (1.5L)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A classic Médoc, Lanessan’s 2005 exhibits beautiful, almost Pauillac-like, cedary blackcurrant fruit. Always a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cabernet Franc and some Merlot and Petit Verdot, the wine is medium to full-bodied and meaty, with forest floor, blackcurrants, and some cedar wood. It is delicious, soft, and surprisingly approachable for a 2005 Médoc. The color is a healthy dark plum/ruby/purple. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. 2005 Clos de Sarpe, St-Emilion (Previously $90.00)

89-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full, bright ruby. Brooding aromas of kirsch, black licorice and minerals. Sharply delineated and very tightly wound, but with superb intensity of black fruit, chocolate, earth and mineral flavors and excellent inner-palate energy. This mounts very slowly on the back, finishing with a youthfully sappy quality, firm tannins and impressive length. This wine from a chalky hillside on the Cotes east of the town of St. Emilion is typically high in acidity (the pH of the 2005 is 3.55), austere and downright unsexy in its youth, but this especially juicy 2005 b ...Read More »

2005 Palmer, Margaux

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Its bigger sister, the 2005 Château Palmer (53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot), is one of the great efforts of this superlative vintage. Floral notes mixed with blackberry, cassis, plum, licorice and spring flowers soar from the glass of this dense ruby/purple wine. It is medium to full-bodied, surprisingly opulent (it has a big percentage of Merlot), long, multi-dimensional and textured. This wonderfully pure, stunning wine once again performs as a first-growth. It should drink well for the next 20-25 years. (RP)" (6/2015) 96 points Wine & Spirits: "No tasting ...Read More »

2005 Fontenil, Fronsac (1.5L)

Dense plum, black cherry, blackberry and cassis fruit jump from the glass of this full-bodied, terrific Fronsac, which is one of the appellation’s stars of the vintage. Long, rich, young, and capable of lasting another 15-20 years, this is one of the candidates for Wine of the Vintage in Fronsac. This wine actually needs another several years of bottle age. Now it's massive, with dark extract and exotic spice, a sophisticated wine that ends on sweetness, bitter chocolate and dark berry fruit. With all the flash, it will give a lot of pleasure as a young wine, but it has the plump Poyferré terroir drive to sustain that pleasure for years ...Read More »

2005 Kirwan, Margaux

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dense and dark, this is an extracted wine with polished fruit. What stops it going over the edge is the delicious sweet fruits, the dense structure and the elegance that gives it shape and aging potential." (6/2008) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Has loads of coffee, blackberry and cigar box aromas, turning to crushed blackberry. Full-bodied, with big, chewy tannins and an aftertaste of vanilla, blackberry and espresso. Mouthpuckering. Very concentrated and structured for this wine. Best after 2015." (3/2008) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, deep red. Expressive, full-blown aromas of currant, coffee and mocha. Sw ...Read More »

2005 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Haut-Bailly, is dense purple with loads of graphite, earth, spice, blackberry and blueberry fruit, beautiful balance, medium to full body, and stunning purity, texture and length. Still incredibly young at age 10, this wine is set for 30 or more years of longevity. This is a great, great Haut-Bailly that will one day probably rival 2009 and 2010. 96+ points. Drink 2014 - 2044 . (RP)" (6/2015) 95 points James Suckling: "This shows a great purity of fruit; firm and direct notes of raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries that open to intense notes of fresh flowers. 2005 l'Evangile, Pomerol New!
2005 l'Evangile, Pomerol

100 points Wine Spectator: "Dark in color, almost purple black, with pure tapenade and hints of ripe plum and berry. Full-bodied, with layer upon layer of velvety tannins and chocolate, berry, vanilla and tea flavors. Lasts for minutes. I am blown away by this wine. This has been amazing since the moment I tasted it from barrel. Reminds me of the superb 1950. Best after 2015. (JS)" (3/2008) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 L’Evangile’s gorgeous aromatics consist of spring flowers, black raspberries, licorice, truffle and graphite. The wine is full-bodied, rich, still youthful and backward, with sweet tannin ...Read More »

2005 Potensac, Médoc (1.5L)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Barrel Sample* This wine has fine tannins that are relatively soft, with good acidity and dryness. It's not powerful, but with its fine black currant flavor and ripe fruit it shows great style." (6/2006) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A superb value for Jean-Hubert Delon, the 2005 Potensac has a deep ruby/purple color, a classic bouquet of sweet red and black fruits, as well as gorgeous texture and purity. Medium-bodied and concentrated, this wine behaves like a Medoc cru classe. Moreover, it will age very well for 10-15 years. Very impressive! (RP)" (8/2008) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Very ripe, sweet ...Read More »

2005 La Confession, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 La Confession, St-Emilion (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Opaque purple, with a sweet blue and blackberry perfume intertwined with licorice and graphite, the 2005 La Confession exhibits massive concentration and extraction, but this full-bodied wine pulls back from being over-the-top because of intrinsic freshness and admirable purity. It is a brilliant effort from the young Janouiex, but it needs some cellaring. (RP)" (04/2008)

2005 Rauzan-Gassies, Margaux

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Solid, dry tannins, very firm and hard, but they are also ripe. The wine has high extraction, very dark fruit flavors, but resists being too huge. This could well turn out to be a very elegant. (RV)" (6/2006) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Significantly better from bottle than it was from barrel, the 2005 Rauzan-Gassies appears to be the finest wine this estate has ever produced. Dense purple-hued with a beautiful perfume of camphor, creme de cassis, licorice, bay leaf, and incense, it is a full-bodied, stunningly concentrated, broad, rich Margaux with lovely integrated tannins. 2005 Trotanoy, Pomerol

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blockbuster 2005 is dense ruby/purple, with sweet black cherries, cassis, earth and white chocolate in both aromas and flavors. A strong, mineral-dominated, powerful wine (90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc), it is extremely backward, super-concentrated, and tasting more like blood of Merlot than any other Pomerol. Dense purple, super-rich, and stunning, this wine has at least a 20- to 30-year upside to it. An absolutely spectacular effort from this great terroir, it can be drunk now, but patience will be rewarded. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. 98+ ( ...Read More »
