2005 Coufran, Haut-Médoc Top Pick!
2005 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Barrel Sample* If you're looking for great, ripe black currant fruits, this is where to come. The wine is full and hugely fruity, but it still manages a good Bordeaux sense of proportion. (RV)" (6/2006) Jancis Robinson: "Smokiness dominates the nose at the moment but there’s still evidence of fresh and aromatic cassis underneath. Rich and yet juicy. A slightly leafy aftertaste may not to be everyone’s taste but it does finish fresh. (JH)" (12/2007) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Coufran is much more concentrated than normal, with a big, rich, black cherry, earthy, spicy mouthfeel. Medium-bodied, ...Read More »

2005 Latour-Martillac, Pessac-Léognan Top Pick!
2005 Latour-Martillac, Pessac-Léognan

93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of crushed berries, flowers and stones. It’s very ripe and rich. Yet it remains fresh. It’s full-bodied, with silky tannins and a crisp finish. It needs another year or two to soften but it’s already gorgeous to drink. Decant an hour or two before." (10/2012) 91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Barrel Sample* With its dryness, this seems at first to be all tannin. There is, though, a black currant fruit flavor that shows through after the wine has been in the mouth for a while, and the aftertaste has fine acidity. This should develop well. Balanced and generous, with lots of fruit underneath. Best after 2011. (JS)" (3/2008) Decanter: "Lifted cassis and hedgerow fruits. Harmonious balance between ripe, dark fruit, integrated oak, and chewy tannins. Attractive. Drink 2013-18." Very spicy and earthy. St. Estephe character. Enjoy or age." (2/2011) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of currant and fresh flowers follow through to a medium-to-full body, with chewy tannins and a slightly woody finish, but the fruit comes through. 2005 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac Top Pick!
2005 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

96 points James Suckling: "A meaty and decadent Lynch with very ripe currant aromas on the nose. Full body, velvety-textured tannins and a powerful finish. It shows so much structure and fruit yet remains polished and focused. Lovely now to drink but better in 2017." (10/2015) 96 points Wine & Spirits: "There's a relaxed feel to this wine. Cazes's team can dress Lynch-Bages in the black-tie formality of a first growth, but the wine is still lovely-a touch of gaminess makes it friendly rather than ponderous. There's something ethereal about its tannins, like a chocolate truffle melting in the mouth. (Daniel Ll ...Read More »

2005 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac

96 points Wine & Spirits: "Baron was trapped in its oak en primeur, seeming flashy, luscious and soft. Now bottled and shipped, it has the unremitting tannic power of the vintage, balanced by unrelenting purity of fruit that somehow manages to anesthetize the monstrous tannin, to soften the extremely dry, mineral-bound finish into a caress. The wine may be bombastic, but it's also succulent and as sweet as a ripe black raspberry. It's easy to imagine this wine 50 years from now, in impeccable condition." 2005 Lascombes, Margaux

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A gorgeous example of Lascombes, the 2005, a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, continues the remarkable turn-around in quality that began five years ago. A stunningly opulent wine with a dense purple color, the 2005 possesses a beautiful perfume of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, creosote, and graphite, full body, silky but noticeable tannins, a layered mouthfeel, and a stunning, 45+-second finish. Sexy, compelling nose of blackcurrant, violet, white pepper and minerals is an absolute knockout. Then very refined on the palate, with a delicate spiciness to the blackcurrant, red plum and mineral flavors, but with noteworthy fleshiness and ripeness lifted by harmonious acidity. It is as fresh as it is rich, but it has a structure of dense tannins that balances the wine. This is one of the best wines from Gruaud-Larose for several years. (RV)" (6/2008) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Licorice spice and tough black tannins form tight boundaries around this wine. Within them, sweet red fruit lends a gracious impression, gentle and refined. 2005 Certan de May, Pomerol

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This great terroir sandwiched between Vieux Château Certan, Petrus and La Fleur Petrus, on the high plateau of Pomerol, has been owned for many years by the Barrau-Badar family. Beautiful coffee, cedar wood, Christmas fruitcake, black cherry and blackcurrant fruit jump from the glass of this full-bodied, rich, multi-layered, and very impressive Certan de May. Full-bodied, powerful and rich, it is not as nuanced or complex as the top four or five Pomerols, but close. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Angélus, St-Emilion (100RP, 97JS, 96ST, 96W&S, 96WS, 95WE). Its dense purple color is followed by an extraordinary perfume of charcoal, espresso roast, blackberries, blueberries, and a hint of wood. In spite of its thick texture, terrific acidity, high tannins, and enormous intensity as well as richness, it is surprisingly approachable, but given how slowly the 1989 and 1990 have aged, I would recommend cellaring it for 8-10 years. It should keep for three decades. A brilliant wine!" (04/2008)

Bid on this magnum lot of 2005 Barde-Haut, St-Emilion (1.5L) (93ST, 92RP, 90WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full ruby-red. Explosive ripe aromas of redcurrant, minerals, chocolate mint and tomato. Large-scaled, voluptuous and sweet, with very intense berry and chocolate flavors lifted by minerals, menthol and spices. Finishes with wonderfully broad tannins and an extremely long finish that leaves the palate vibrating. From a very cold terroir (the soil is clay over rocky limestone) that takes longer to warm up each day, but in 2005 this vineyard obviously reached near-perfect ripeness. Offers an exciting combination of thickness and depth with lift. (ST)" (05/2008)

2005 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (1.5L) 6-pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival)

98 points James Suckling: "This accelerates on the palate with incredibly ripe tannins and finesse. Full body, roasted fruit, leather and grilled meat. Dried flowers, too. It shows superb tannin backbone and polish. Tight and youthful. Just starting to open. Currant and berry undertones with lead pencil are impressive. Better in 2018 but so delicious now." (10/2015) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Château Mouton-Rothschild is a deeply impressive First Growth. It has been blessed with a sensational nose that comes racing out of the blocks with audacious scents of black fruit, cedar, smoke and pencil box (P ...Read More »

2005 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (375ml) New!
2005 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (375ml)

100 points James Suckling: "This is a wine that makes you dream. The nose is packed with flowers, sweet tobacco, iodine, spices, raspberries, blackberries, and great freshness. The texture is perfection, pure silk and the fruit is wonderfully complex and subtle. Currants, fresh mushrooms, flowers, and stones fill the mouth and make way to a delightful finish." (4/2011) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The mineral-laced 2005 Haut Brion (56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc) is exquisite. With its elegance and finesse, it is not as powerful as La Mission, but the nobility and complexity of the arom ...Read More »

2005 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien 12-pack in OWC

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This tastes of great Cabernet Sauvignon, with its black currant, cedar and herbs and fresh, juicy acidity. Age will allow the wine to expand as the tannins relent, but this offers impressive drinking now, particularly if decante ...Read More »
