2014 Haut Charmes, Sauternes

Haut Charmes is a very special Sauternes bottling, made from the younger vines of one the region's most legendary château. While we aren't allowed to actually reveal the source, it's safe to say its location in the Ciron Valley exposes the Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon fruit to conditions perfect for the development of botrytis. Charming, elegant and an exceptional value for what's in the bottle. A rich wine with fine acidity, the wine has wonderful pineapple and coconut aromas that carry through onto the lush palate. A stunning wine just like its big bro... Read More »

2011 Rieussec, Sauternes (Previously $75+) Top Pick!
2011 Rieussec, Sauternes (Previously $75+)

96-97 points James Suckling: "This shows incredible freshness and power, with dried pineapples, mangoes and papayas. Full body, medium-sweet with electrifying acidity. Vibrates your palate. Barrel sample still." (2/2014) 96 points Wine Spectator: "Intense, with ginger, yellow apple chutney, dried pineapple and papaya flavors coursing through a finish that brims with singed almond and lemon chiffon flavors. This retains a touch of youthful rawness, featuring a bitter orange note that's yet to be absorbed. No need to rush or worry here. Best from 2018 through 2040. 96 points Wine Spectator: "*#23 on the Top 100 Wines of 2004* Golden yellow. Butterscotch and vanilla with hints of ripe apples; full-bodied, with lots of sweetness and a spicy apricot and honey aftertaste. Excellent concentration and balance. Loads of botrytis character on the finish. Intense. Hard to refrain from drinking it now, it's so luscious and rich. Best after 2008. (JS)" (9/2004) 95 points James Suckling: "Intensely fruity and rich with wonderful sweetness and loads of spicy and honey character with a dried apricot undertone. (4/2016) 95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Rieussec, a blend of 86% Semillon and 14% Sauvignon Blanc, was picked over five tries through the vineyard between 9 September and 27 October. "We had a bit of frost towards the end and 10% was harvested afterwards. The quality was affected and this was put into the second wine," winemaker Eric Kohler informed me. 2015 Doisy-Daëne, Sauternes (375ml) (Pre-Arrival)

95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Doisy-Daene has a detailed bouquet, very correct, nothing showy or flamboyant as is typical of Denis Dubourdieu's Barsac. The palate is extremely well balanced and very pure: citrus fruit infusing the honeyed botrytis, veins of white peach and quince, leading to a very precise and sustained finish that leaves you with a smile on your face...and the wine ain't even finished yet! Just a wonderful wine - full of class and nascent joie-de-vivre. Chapeau Denis! (NM)" (4/2016) 95-96 points James Suckling: "Wow. This is really impressive with a fabulous density and style. 2013 Petit Guiraud, Sauternes (375ml)

The second wine of Château Guiraud and made by Xavier Planty, Château Guiraud's oenologist since 1982. It is a modern style with a high proportion of Sauvignon Blanc (approximately one third), made from a blend of lots fermented in stainless steel (for minerality and freshness), and new French oak barrels, which promote the development of richness, body, and intensity of flavor on the palate. Guiraud has employed organic farming methods since 1996, and obtained organic certification in 2011.

2004 Nairac, Barsac Top Pick!
2004 Nairac, Barsac

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale gold. Clean, ripe and pure on the nose, with stone fruit and citrus aromas complicated by minerals, clove and vanillin oak. At once fresh and ripe in the mouth, with intense flavors of apricot nectar and orange. Finishes ripe and long, with a strong spice character to the fruit flavors, and firm spine. Very promising." (7/2006) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Chateau Nairac is closed and reticent on the nose with light pineapple and citrus peel scents. The palate is nicely rounded and viscous on the entry. There are light scents of orange peel and dried apricot and a touch ...Read More »

It lasts for minutes on the palate. This has just about everything in the right place. Stunning. (JS)" (9/2004) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium yellow-gold. 2005 Climens, Barsac (375ml)

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château Climens just soars from the glass with layers of clear honey, marmalade, nectarine and minerals all beautifully carved. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh, vibrant honeyed fruit that builds and builds in the mouth in tandem with a killer line of acidity. Even though it is a convincing, great Climens, you also have the impression that it is only just beginning to show what it is capable of. 2007 Doisy-Védrines, Sauternes (Previously $50)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the château, the 2007 Château Doisy-Védrines does not achieve the same level of precision as the 2006 on the nose, although there is plenty of botrytis here with scents of melted candle wax and white peach. The palate is vibrant on the entry with impressive weight: hints of orange peel and apricot with a tender, almost understated finish. This improves in the glass, gaining more complexity and nuance and yet never quite demonstrating the sheer ambition as the 2009. 2013 Suduiraut, Sauternes (375ml)

One of the bigger, deeper wines of the vintage, the Suduiraut is firing on all cylinders today. This is a great showing. (AG)" (4/2014) 94-96 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Barrel Sample.* Full and rich, this is a powerful wine. It’s packed with botrytis-driven flavors of wild honey and peach, balanced by tight acidity. 2001 Suduiraut, Sauternes

With terrific acidity, a voluptuous/unctuous palate, and sweet, powerful flavors buttressed by crisp acidity, it is a phenomenal Sauternes. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040. 2013 Rayne Vigneau, Sauternes (375ml)

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Rayne-Vigneau, picked from September 21 until October 30 over four tries, is being blended from 28 lots and sees 40% new oak. It is still showing quite conspicuous oak on the nose, although there is clearly sufficient honeyed fruit to support it. With continued aeration, it reveals attractive but subtle almond and spice scents. The palate is well-balanced with a lively honeyed entry. This is already very cohesive, with fine delineation, and the finish is very composed, with a saltiness lingering on the aftertaste. It is a classic Rayne-Vigneau t ...Read More »

The aging potential is certainly there. (RV)" 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The La Tour Blanche has an introspective bouquet at first, one that is atypical of the estate. Give it some aeration and there are attractive chalky scents emerging, accompanied by citrus peel and linden. The palate is very well-balanced with a touch of pepper on the entry. A very strong performance for this chateau, and a good value. (ST)" (8/2006) Wine Spectator: "Wow. This shows superintense aromas of dried pineapple, apple tart and pecan pie with honey. It has a gentle, slightly nutty and smoky bouquet that unfolds nicely in the glass. The palate is viscous on the entry with mellifluous honeyed fruit. There is plenty of botrytis here, good acidity with a concentrated, almost Climens-like finish. This is very fine and could merit a higher score after bottling. The soft, intensely floral, crystalline finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. The 2013 Doisy-Daëne impresses for its superb drinkability. It has a sense of completeness on the nose already: immense clarity with wild honey and quince aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is me ...Read More »

2010 Guiraud, Sauternes (375ml)

96 points James Suckling: "Ripe lemon peel and orange. Some honey and vanilla with loads of new wood. Dense and very sweet on the palate with nice pure fruit and firm tannins from the oak that still needs time to soften. This Sauternes shows a wonderful fruit and excellent potential, but needs time. Try in 2018." (2/2013) 92-95 points Wine Spectator: "This is developing some real power, with glazed peach and pear fruit pushed by graham and honey notes. There's lots of viscosity on the finish, but with good underlying acidity." (3/2010) 92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "A closed up wine, although all the elements are there, promising great final ba ...Read More »

2015 Guiraud, Sauternes (Pre-Arrival)

96-97 points James Suckling: "This is really something. I have never tasted a Guiraud like this. This is full-bodied yet so fresh and incredibly crisp and lively. Spicy and energetic. Fantastic acidity!" (4/2016) 94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Guiraud, tasted in two occasions, has a sumptuous bouquet with scents of wild honey, apricot and a faint smear of marmalade. The palate is fresh and tensile on the entry, brimming with energy with impressive energy towards the blood orange and quince-tinged finish. This is a stylish, suave Guiraud that should age beautifully in bottle. (NM)" (4/2016) 94-96 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is packed ...Read More »

2010 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes (375ml)

91-94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, pale yellow-gold. Exotic aromas of apricot, kiwi and minerals, complicated by smoky botrytis. Very clean and focused in the mouth, with pure, penetrating orange marmalade and ripe citrus flavors lifted by minerals and saffron. Refined and elegant in its mouth feel and very long on the aftertaste. Extremely well done. (ID)" (8/2011) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Lush and captivating, showing layers of pineapple, peach, passion fruit and mango entwined with one another and carried by a bright green almond note through the finish. Not shy on depth, but offers a decidedly prettier ...Read More »

1989 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes

92 points Wine Spectator: "Intense and exotic; ripe and rich botrytis flavors explode on the palate to a long finish. Very sweet and full in body, it packs in the spice, white pepper, cream, coffee, quince and dried apricot notes." (4/1995) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Although loosely structured, the 1989 reveals plenty of intense, honeyed fruit in a rich, authoritative, full-bodied format. A big, powerhouse, sweet, heavy wine with a penetrating fragrance of honey and flowers, this generously endowed wine already drinks well, but can easily last for 15-20 years. (RP)" (1/1998) Jancis Robinson: "Deepish gold. Complex honeyed richn ...Read More »

1989 Rieussec, Sauternes (375ml)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "After a period of prolonged disjointedness, this wine has pulled itself together. The color is deep straw, and the wine displays an intense perfume of creme brulee custard, baked apple pie, and sweet, ripe pineapples and pears. Full-bodied, rich, alcoholic, and fat, with low acidity and considerable sweetness, this is a luxuriously rich, unctuously-textured, heavyweight Sauternes that should become more civilized with age. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2025. (RP)" (1/1998) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Lively, complex, fresh aromas of tropical fruit, honey and spicy oak. Sweet and viscous ...Read More »

1990 d'Yquem, Sauternes

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An extraordinary effort, Yquem's 1990 is a rich and fabulously superb, sweet wine. This wine also possesses lots of elegance and finesse. The wine's medium gold color is accompanied by an exceptionally sweet nose of honeyed tropical fruits, peaches, coconut, and apricots. High quality, subtle toasty oak is well-integrated. The wine is massive on the palate, with layers of intensely ripe botrytis-tinged, exceptionally sweet fruit. Surprisingly well-integrated acidity, and a seamless, full-bodied power and richness have created a wine of remarkable harmony ...Read More »

2007 Doisy-Védrines, Sauternes (375ml) Back In Stock!
2007 Doisy-Védrines, Sauternes (375ml)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted single blind against its peers. The Doisy-Vedrines 2007 has a typically ostentatious bouquet with ebullient tropical fruit, quince and orange essence with fine definition. The palate is medium-bodied with a very rounded texture, lovely pure honeyed fruit with orange rind and tang of marmalade. It is very generous towards the finish, which lacquers the palate in its decadent richness. Not quite in the same league as previous encounters but then, this Barsac always needs time to blossom. Tasted January 2011." (2/2012) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, pale gold. Reticent but p ...Read More »

1997 Doisy-Védrines, Sauternes

93 points Wine Spectator: "Lots of spice, honey, apricot and dried fruit character. Full-bodied and very sweet, with a long, spicy vanilla aftertaste. A lively young thing. (JS)" (1/2000) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Aromatic, nuanced nose combines peach, apricot, pear and flowers. Ripe and intensely flavored, with vibrant, firm acidity framing the fruit salad flavors. Complicating notes of spice and honey. Young and structured for slow evolution in bottle. Superripe finish throws off notes of toffee and toast. (ST)" (7/2000) K&L Notes: A fabulous Sauternes in the league with their mindblowing 1989. Coconut aromas and honey... Read More »

2005 Coutet, Sauternes Back In Stock!
2005 Coutet, Sauternes

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "*#10 in Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Wines of 2008* Surprisingly dry, this has richness rather than sweetness, and intense, powerful botrytis. The honey is intensely perfumed, along with baked apples and spice. Certainly a long-aging wine. (RV)" (6/2008) 92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "It is not unusual for late harvest wines to have a bit of a sharp, kerosene edge to their lush personalities, although that characteristic is more often associated with the sweet wines of Germany than it is with those of Sauternes. Yet there, in the midst of the orange rind, dried peach, juicy pineapple, stra ...Read More »
