2009 Saint Martial, St-Emilion Top Pick!
2009 Saint Martial, St-Emilion

High quality, value Bordeaux is one of the great pleasures in wine. Saint Martial is a fine St-Emilion estate located along the Dorgodne River. Originally founded by the Dupeyrat family, it is now run by Micheau Maillou and family, and comprised of just 3.7 hectares. Great care is taken in the vineyard, and many of the vines have some real age with an overall average of 45 years. Predominately Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc, this is classic St-Emilion split between 1/3 new oak, 1/3 used, 1/3 third neutral vats. With just the right amount of age in the bo... Read More »

2009 Coufran, Haut-Médoc Top Pick!
2009 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

92 points James Suckling: "The quality of the fruit and tannins are very pretty here. It’s full-bodied, with round velvety texture and a delicious finish. Very impressive. Drink or hold." (7/2014) 90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Firm tannins, but also ripe, sweet fruits, with a fine balance. While the wine is on the light, fresh side, it does have a good, final structure. (RV)" (4/2010) Jancis Robinson: "Rich dark plum fruit but also meaty and savoury - a wine with attitude. Smooth and pretty dense, just about fresh. Drink 2014-2023. (JH)" (10/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This Merlot-dominated wine displays a dense ruby/purple color, soft berry fruit intermi ...Read More »

2009 Malmaison, Moulis-en-Médoc

Wine Spectator: "This has a good sappy feel, with kirsch and cherry preserves flavors laced with a pepper note and a lively tobacco streak. Shows a stony edge on the finish. Drink now through 2015. (JM)" (5/2012) K&L Notes: Not to be confused with the Napoleonic museum (Château de Malmaison) located just west of Paris, the 24 hectare Château Malmaison in Moulis, Gironde, was purchased by the Rothschilds in 1973 and lies adjacent to Château Clarke. The abandoned vineyard was renovated between 1974 and 1978, its soils now yielding distinctive and harmonious wines that are mellow, fruit... Read More »

2009 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (98RP, 97JS, 96WE, 96WS, 93ST, 93VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Performing even better from bottle than it did from barrel, this appears to be the finest Lynch Bages since the 2000, 1990 and 1989. According to the chateau, the 2009 has the highest level of polyphenols ever measured as well as high alcohol (nearly 13.5%). A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest largely Merlot with touches of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it is an expressive, voluptuously textured effort with unctuosity and powerful, juicy, succulent blackberry and black currant flavors, low acids, a layered, massive mouthfeel, but no sense of heaviness or fatigue. This exquisite Lynch Bages should drink well for 30+ years. (RP)" (02/2012)

2009 Verdignan, Haut-Médoc

92 points James Suckling: "Classy red here with currants, blueberries and mahogany aromas. Full body, chewy tannins and a long finish. Intense and powerful." (7/2014) Wine Spectator: "Taut and racy, with a delicious beam of linzer torte, dried black currant and roasted fig flavors, all laced with tobacco leaf and espresso notes. The solid, racy finish shows nice length and cut. (JM, Web-2012)" K&L Notes: Situated near Pauillac, these vineyards are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cab Franc. 2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac Top Pick!
2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A wine I’ve been lucky enough to have numerous times since release, the 2009 Pontet Canet is one of those magical efforts that wine lovers encounter far too infrequently. From one of the greatest vintages for the region ever, this deep, saturated purple-colored effort offers an incredible bouquet of crème de cassis, blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings, damp earth, and graphite. This gives way to a full-bodied, powerful Pauillac that carries a massive amount of sweet fruit yet stays light and beautifully balanced on the palate. With ripe, sweet tannin, an ...Read More »

(3/2012) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and the rest Malbec is from the Thienpont family. (Puygueraud is the estate where this large clan was born.) The 2009 is impressive, but the estate somewhat under-the-radar, since it is hard to pronounce and not exactly a household name. 2009 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The greatest wine I’ve ever tasted from this address is the 2009 Léoville Poyferré, which is a step up over both the 2000 and the 2010. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and the balance Cabernet Franc that hit 13.9% alcohol, it offers everything you could ask of a wine and reveals a saturated purple color as well as incredible notes of crème de cassis, blueberries, lead pencil, exotic Spices, and dried flowers. 2009 La Gaffelière, St-Emilion

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely spectacular effort, the 2009 is one of the all-time great La Gaffelieres produced. One would have to go back to the 2005, 1947 or 1961 to find this level of quality from this ancient, historic vineyard planted adjacent to the walls of St.-Emilion, on the Cote Pavie. Dating back to the 1400s, this estate has been owned for over three centuries by the Malet-Roquefort family. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon (in the past it was two-thirds Merlot and the rest split between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc), the 2009 reveal ...Read More »

2009 La Couspaude, St-Emilion

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The best La Couspaude I have ever tasted, the opaque purple 2009 exhibits nicely integrated toasty oak/pain grille in addition to cassis, kirsch, raspberries and earthy undertones. Full-bodied, with beautiful integration of acidity, alcohol and tannin, this is a robust, exuberant, somewhat flamboyant style of St.-Emilion that is clearly modern, but quite frankly, delicious. (RP)" (2/2012) 90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Pure blackberry and currant fruits, lots of ripe and juicy flavors. Intense, concentrated and smoky. 2009 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

It also has underlying firm structure, density and solid tannins. Bring in the acidity at the end, and this is both impressive and ready for long-term aging. *Ranked #3 on Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2012* (RV)" (2/2012) 96 points James Suckling: "Very floral, with fresh mushrooms and currants on the nose. This is a big, ripe, incredibly sexy wine that hits the palate with a huge texture, building, ripe tannin, no weight, and a finish that just won't quit. Utterly brilliant stuff, it's slightly more approachable than the 2005, but both of these vintages play in the same style. Drink bottles anytime over the coming two to three decades. Bravo!" It goes on for minutes. Speechless. Better and cleaner than the great 1990. Try in 2022." (3/2012) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A colossal effort, the 2009 Montrose represents a hypothetical blend of the monumental duo of 1989 and 1990 combined with the phenomenal 2003. 2009 Langoa-Barton, St-Julien

Here, the 2009 has a lifted, perfumed, Burgundy-inspired bouquet that is nicely defined but showing a little more unresolved oak than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit on the entry: strawberry, cedar and blackcurrant. This is strict and very linear, conservative but compelling. Boasting Dr. Alain Raynaud as the oenologist/consultant, an abundance of crushed rock, blueberry, graphite and chalky notes are present in this dense purple wine, which is full-bodied, rich and clearly an over-achiever in this vintage or any other. Drink it over the next 10-15+ years. (RP)" (2/2012) 91 points James Suckling: "Blueberry and flowers on nose, with dark chocolate. Full body, with firm tannins and a chewy finish. A little tight ...Read More »

2009 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac (Pre-Arrival)

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Talk about value, the 2009 Duhart-Milon is straight up sensational stuff. Made from 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot, it gives up classic notes of blackcurrants, pencil shavings, saddle leather and smoked herbs, it’s full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with fine tannin, impeccable balance and a great, great finish. It’s a heavenly bottle of wine that will compete with the best out there. Buy this wine!" (7/2017) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot, it displays an inky/blue/purple color as well as a big, sweet nose of creme de cassis, fore ...Read More »

2009 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Mouton-Rothschild is as concentrated as the 2010, but it presents itself in a more consumer-friendly, seductive style. Opulently textured and full-bodied with gorgeous levels of crème de cassis, melted licorice, espresso roast and chocolate, it possesses high but sweet, velvety tannins, massive body, and fabulous purity as well as length. This could turn out to be a candidate for perfection in another 8-10 years. It will drink well for 30-50 years, but will always be much more approachable and charming than its 2010 counterpart. (RP)" (12/2014) 98 points Decanter: "Ne ...Read More »

2009 Canon-La-Gaffelière, St-Emilion

97 points James Suckling: "Porcini mushrooms, with dark and ripe fruits. Turns to licorice and violets. Full body, with round and soft tannins and a long delicious finish. The texture is gorgeous. So much going on in the glass. Try after 2018." (2/2012) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This is well-cloaked for now in roasted vanilla and espresso notes, but there’s ample, fleshy fig sauce and mulled blackberry fruit in reserve. The finish sports a long, melted licorice snap feel. Dense, but beautifully polished and pure. For the cellar. Best from 2015 through 2030. *Highly Recommended, Ranked #23, Top 100 Wines of ...Read More »

2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (1.5L)

2009 l'Eglise Clinet, Pomerol (Pre-Arrival)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Proprietor Denis Durantou has produced a blockbuster Pomerol from a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, tipping the scales at just over 14.5% natural alcohol. A riveting wine, pure, elegant, but at the same time, extremely powerful and concentrated, with stunning texture, opulence and density, the tannins are abundant, and the wine certainly in need of a decade of cellaring. Fabulous creme de cassis and cherry liqueur notes are intertwined with hints of licorice, truffle, and graphite. Full and rich, but still in an infantile state of development ...Read More »

2009 Montrose, St-Estèphe 6-pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival)

100 points James Suckling: "Blueberries, currants and Indian spices on the nose follow through to a full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a lovely finish. It's intense and refined. A beauty. It goes on for minutes. Speechless. Better and cleaner than the great 1990. Try in 2022." (2/2012) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A colossal effort, the 2009 Montrose represents a hypothetical blend of the monumental duo of 1989 and 1990 combined with the phenomenal 2003...the overall impression is one of massive blackberry, black currant and mulberry fruit intermixed with forest floor, damp earth, crushed rocks and a hint of ...Read More »

2009 La Mission Haut-Brion Rouge, Pessac-Léognan (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2009 La Mission Haut-Brion Rouge, Pessac-Léognan (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2009 La Mission-Haut-Brion stood out as one of the most exceptional young wines I had ever tasted from barrel, and its greatness has been confirmed in the bottle. A remarkable effort from the Dillon family, this is another large-scaled La Mission that tips the scales at 15% alcohol. A blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (47% of each) and the rest Cabernet Franc, it exhibits an opaque purple color as well as a magnificent bouquet of truffles, scorched earth, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, subt ...Read More »

2009 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

100 points James Suckling: "Every time I taste this I love it. What a nose with black truffles and raspberries with flowers. Insanely rich yet subtle. Full-bodied, with ultra fine tannins and a length that goes on forever. Super structured and intense. This is very closed now. Don't touch for 10 years. Made to age. This could well be better than the perfect 1989." (4/2012) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What a blockbuster effort! Atypically powerful, one day, the 2009 Haut-Brion may be considered to be the 21st century version of the 1959. It is an extraordinarily complex, concentrated effort made from a blend of ...Read More »

2009 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien 6-pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The greatest wine I’ve ever tasted from this address is the 2009 Léoville Poyferré, which is a step up over both the 2000 and the 2010. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and the balance Cabernet Franc that hit 13.9% alcohol, it offers everything you could ask of a wine and reveals a saturated purple color as well as incredible notes of crème de cassis, blueberries, lead pencil, exotic Spices, and dried flowers. Incredibly full-bodied, super concentrated, deep, and opulent, yet still pure, fresh, and lively, it has sweet tanni ...Read More »
