2009 Chauvin, St-Emilion Top Pick!
2009 Chauvin, St-Emilion

92 points James Suckling: "Very opulent and rich with loads of fruit and spice. Walnut and chocolate. Full and chewy. Exciting." (3/2016) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A major sleeper of the vintage, this over-achieving St.-Emilion seems to come up big in many of the top vintages and needs more recognition from consumers. Loads of black currants, toasty oak and forest floor notes comprise this large-scaled, substantial wine. With its intense fruit, copius glycerin, and long, complete finish, this wine is successful now but should be better in 3-4 years and last for 15 or more. 2009 Larrivaux, Haut-Médoc (Previously $35)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A tasty Haut-Medoc with notes of black currants, loamy soil, tobacco leaf and underbrush, this wine should drink nicely for 10 or more years. (RP)" (2/2012) Wine Spectator: "A fruity and attractive young red, with plum and currant on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins. Clean red. (Web Only—2010)" K&L Notes: 89-91 points Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc 3% Petit Verdot, this has a fine crisp dark brambly nose: good definition with hints of black olive tapenade and a touch of smoke. (2/2012) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I clearly underrated this wine from barrel. The finest wine made at this estate since 1982, this opaque black wine is a sleeper of the vintage, with oodles of blackberry fruit interwoven with hints of charcoal, forest floor, licorice and damp earth. (2/2012) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers a lesson in Pauillac, with sleek black currant and fig fruit melded together, laced with graphite, tobacco and roasted cedar notes and backed by a long, iron-driven finish. This has grip, but the wine is made in a more accessible style for mid-term cellaring. Best from 2013 through 2019." Black as a moonless night, the 2009 Pontet Canet offers up notes of incense, graphite, smoke, licorice, creme de cassis and blackberries. A wine of irrefutable purity, laser-like precision, colossal weight and richness, and sensational freshness, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is capable of lasting 50 or more years. James Suckling: "This is a wine that had extreme intensity of electrifying tannins and acidity, with supercharged fruit. Full-bodied, yet agile and lively. It touches every taste bud on your palate. Chocolate mousse and fruit. I am lost for words. Legendary 1950 all over again. Try it in 2020." (02/2012)

2009 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe (1.5L)

93-96 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers gorgeous aromas of blackberry, blueberry and licorice, with hints of tobacco and spice. Full-bodied, offering a lovely texture and refinement. Very long and beautiful, with tangy acidity and lively fruit. A rich, yet very balanced, Calon. This is almost all Cabernet Sauvignon instead of the normal blend with 40 percent Merlot. The château is now using 100 percent new wood. Like the changes. (JL, Web-2010)" 95 points James Suckling: "Superb richness on the nose of dark berries, shiitake mushrooms and flowers. Full body with soft, silky tannins and a refined, integrated tanni ...Read More »

2009 Laforge, St-Emilion
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Laforge, St-Emilion (96RP, 92JS, 92ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From proprietor Jonathan Maltus, this blend of three terroirs, two on sand and one on gravel, is a blend of 92% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. About 2,000 cases are produced, and the prodigious 2009 is the finest vintage to date. Inky blue/purple, with notes of licorice, camphor, black truffle, blackberry and blueberry, this full-bodied wine has massive concentration yet at the same time displays elegance and harmony. The equilibrium and 60+-second length make for a huge, massive, but incredibly well-balanced wine, like a shadow of the proprietor himself. (RP)" (02/2012)

2009 Branon, Pessac-Léognan (OWC)
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Branon, Pessac-Léognan (OWC - 98RP, 94ST, 94WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This magnificent, dense plum/purple-colored Pessac-Leognan reveals notes of scorched earth, burning embers, blackberries and truffles. Composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc from a vineyard gorgeously situated between Malartic Lagraviere and Haut-Bailly, it possesses full-bodied power, a stunningly intense, voluptuous, layered mouthfeel and abundant levels of fruit, glycerin and tannin. The 2009 ranks alongside the magnificent 2000, which is aging at a glacial pace. Unfortunately, proprietress Helene Garcin only produces around 500 cases of this somewhat cult-ish Pessac-Leognan. 2009 Giscours, Margaux (1.5L) New!
2009 Giscours, Margaux (1.5L)

95 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blueberries, blackberries and flowers. Very beautiful. Full body, with a solid core of fruit and firm tannins. Balanced and refined. This is ultra-refined. Best wine from here since 1970. One of the great values of the vintage." (2/2012) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Ranked #32, Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2012* Dark and structured, this is a firm wine. It has a smoky wood character, powerful tannins over intensely ripe fruit. Acidity and sweetness balance to give a dense wine, powered with richness and destined to age for many years. (RV)" (2/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Gisc ...Read More »
