2016 Domaine Louis Moreau Petit Chablis Top Pick!
2016 Domaine Louis Moreau Petit Chablis

Husband-and-wife team Louis and Anne Moreau pretty much do it all here, from the moment the grapes hit the door of their winemaking facility. Louis got his degree in enology from Fresno State and worked for several California wineries before coming home to take over the winery from his father. We have a strong trio of wines from Louis Moreau.

2016 Domaine de Biéville (Louis Moreau) Chablis

Domaine de Biéville was established by Jean-Jacques Moreau in the village of Viviers in the 1970s. The contiguous, 65-hectare vineyard was selected for its textbook truffières soil terroir and south/southwest exposure which resembles the premier cru classified vineyards of Chablis. Now with 45+ year old vines, Domaine de Biéville produces a textured and classically styled Chablis which shows its old vine pedigree on a complex and mineral-driven finish.

2014 La Chablisienne Chablis 1er Cru "Beauroy"

93 points Decanter: "White flowers and minerals on the nose. Delicate but vibrant expression with zingy acidity and gentle citrus and creamy notes." (6/2017) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Chablis 1Er Cru Beauroy has a delightful bouquet with limestone-scented citrus fruit that fan out from the glass. The palate is clean and fresh with a fine line of acidity, quite intense mineral-driven citrus fruit segueing into a poised, harmonious and stony finish. This is a well-crafted, delicious Beauroy.(NM)" (12/2016) K&L Notes: La Chablisienne is the largest producer in all of Chablis, possibly accounting for up to 35%... Read More »

2014 La Chablisienne Chablis "La Sereine"

Decanter: "Taut and focused with a restrained cooked apple and pear nose and a multi-layered grapefruit and stone fruit palate." (5/2017) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Chablis la Sereine has a crisp, mineral, gypsum-scented bouquet that unfurls nicely in the glass but remains rather aloof. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, rounded in texture, but still fresh with a hint of clear honey and peach towards the long finish. This is quite stylish, if just missing a little complexity compared to its peers. (NM)" (8/2016) Wine Enthusiast: "This is a rich style of Chablis that has the crispness of 2014 ...Read More »

2015 Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis "Domaine Sainte Claire"

90 points Wine Spectator: "A rich take on Chablis, yet with a salty tang to the apple, melon, yellow plum and lemon flavors. The chalky, minerally finish adds a sense of place. Drink now through 2020. (BS)" (11/2016) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here the expressive nose is slightly fresher and a bit more elegant as well if otherwise compositionally similar. There is once again a very attractive texture to the medium-bodied flavors that are supported by a citrus-tinged acid spine, all wrapped in a generous, lingering and balanced finish. This too should drink well young." (8/2016) Vinous: "Much more aromatic than the basic ...Read More »

2014 Domaine Samuel Billaud Petit Chablis

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A notably reserved nose only grudgingly gives up whispers of green fruit and sea breeze hints. There is ample intensity and vibrancy to the utterly delicious and mineral-driven flavors that terminate in a notably dry and ever-so-mildly austere finish. This should be very good for its level." (10/2015) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Petit Chablis Sur les Clos comes from vines planted by Billaud's father and is shared with Faiveley (Domaine Billaud Simon). It has a tightly wound, greengage-scented bouquet that is nicely defined. The palate has commendable energy on the entry with ...Read More »

2014 Val de Mer Chablis

Val de Mer is a project from Chablis' rising star vigneron Patrick Piuze. Originally from Québec, Piuze has made wine at some of Chablis greatest estates--Olivier Leflaive, La Maison Verget and Jean-Marc Brocard. His winemaking style is traditional, with as little manipulation as possible in order to let the purity and vibrancy inherent in the fruit to shine through. His AOC Chablis is fresh and clean, with bright green apple and lemony citrus aromas and flavors underpinned by classic Chablis chalky minerality. A perfect partner to crab.

There is both good richness and vibrancy to the solidly well-detailed flavors that possess a bit more size and weight but not necessarily better depth and persistence." (10/2017) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Chablis Champ Royaux, which comes from purchased grapes, has a clean, grapefruit and lime-scented bouquet. 2014 Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis 1er Cru "Vaulignot"

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Situated in a side valley away from the main Serein river, this cool vineyard produces crisp, cool, stylish wines. This one is fresh and bright, all fruit without wood aging. Touches of melon back up the red-apple flavors. The aftertaste is still young, so this wine will be best from 2017. *Editors' Choice* (RV)" (5/2016) 90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is reasonably good Chablis character to the fresh aromas of iodine, oyster shell and green apple. 2015 Domaine Laroche Chablis 1er Cru "Les Beauroys"

91 points Decanter: "A classic Chablis nose, lean, stony and lifted. The rich, firm palate has weight and power, quite imposing for a premier cru, with ample spice and vigour. Moderate acidity but harmonious and quite long." K&L Notes: The Les Beauroys vineyard lies on the left bank of the Serein river in Chablis. It generally produces very charming wines. The 2015 from Laroche (a beautifully restored property that shares the same importer as DRC) is a wonderfully fresh, lively, mineral-driven wine that has a fair amount of acidity for the 2015 vintage. It has a very refined bouquet with scents of white peach and a hint of nectarine developing alongside chalky aromas. 2013 La Chablisienne Chablis Grand Cru "Château Grenouilles"

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An overtly exotic nose features a broad-ranging array of pear, apple, white peach and ocean breeze scents that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is excellent volume and fine intensity to the lush and very round medium weight plus flavors that possess fine power, concentration and plenty of mouth coating extract, all wrapped in a citrus-inflected, balanced and impressively persistent finale. This is the best wine in the range in 2013 that again should be accessible young but reward a few years of cellaring as well." The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. I appreciate the precision and mineralité here, a touch of flint lending edginess and tension all the way through to the finish. This is a really superb effort from Billaud-Simon. I like the textured mouth feel to the round and relatively forward mid-palate of the medium-bodied flavors that possess fine depth and positively huge length on the citrus-inflected finale. This exceptionally promising effort is also going to need a few years of cellaring to develop but it should be terrific in time." There is terrific intensity to the gorgeously textured, intense and beautifully well-detailed flavors that possess focused power while delivering excellent depth and length on the explosive finale. At once fat and firm, with lovely calcaire energy giving shape and grip to the middle palate. Hints of ginger and pistachio contribute complexity. Finishes spicy, salty and slightly tannic, ripe and rich but adamantly dry. This premier cru needs some time but has the structure and depth to reward patience. Samuel Billaud commented he has found that this particular cuvée has become more saline and minerally in barrel. It has a very complex bouquet with scents of wet limestone, yellow plum and a touch of white peach. The palate is fresh on the entry with a touch of orange rind, steely and linear; it is strict for a Vaillons, with a precise and stony finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. Otherwise there is a lovely sense of purity to the intense, sleek and generous yet precise medium-bodied flavors that possess a succulent mouth feel, all wrapped in an impressively complex and lingering finish. The soils are predominantly chalky clay, mixed with Kimmeridgian limestone. The wine has the beautiful fresh scent of chamomile, a bright, pure expression of chardonnay that carries its chalky floral richness all the way through to a generous end. It is slightly resinous in style with notes of dried honey, white pepper, fennel and a powerful, spicy finish that lingers long in the mouth. There is a lot going on in this multifaceted Vaudésir, a Chablis that is riveting even a ...Read More »

2015 Domaine Billaud-Simon 1er Cru Chablis "Montee de Tonnerre"

90-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is at once more classic and more elegant with its ripe yet airy combination of pear, apple, mineral reduction and floral nuances. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the refined medium weight flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality onto the lingering, balanced and delicious finish where a hint of bitter lemon surfaces." (8/2016) 92 points Decanter: "Curious, lifted almond nose, reminiscent of walking into a patisserie. On the palate, the attack is fresh and direct with good acidity and purity of fruit. The patisserie character is absent. Sleek and intens ...Read More »

2010 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru "Bougros"

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A restrained nose of citrus, floral, mineral reduction and algae slides into impressively rich, powerful, serious and concentrated flavors that are almost painfully intense on the explosive and strikingly long finish. This is a classic Bougros with its robust and muscular big-bodied flavors." (10/2011) 93 points Wine & Spirits: "With 10.18 acres, Fèvre owns one-third of this grand cru, a southwest-facing hillside that produced a spherical wine locked in a Kimmeridgian limestone shell. Scents of wildflower honey and creamy Meyer lemon flavors get cut by the blunt youth of the wine’s ...Read More »

2011 Domaine Dauvissat-Camus (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru "La Forest" Back In Stock!
2011 Domaine Dauvissat-Camus (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru "La Forest"

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A brothy sense of richness to Vincent Dauvissat's 2011 Chablis La Forest evokes stock of chicken, clams and mussels, something that would count as utterly anomalous in wine from any other wine region. Chalk segues into white pepper, which, along with a bitter edge of dried herbs, makes for invigorating tactile impingement, even though there is an underlying hint of creaminess to the palpably lees-enriched mid-palate. Similarly, a light lemon freshness complements the richness of this peppery, pungent chowder of Chablis. The finish here milks my salivary ...Read More »
