2016 Gundlach Bundschu "Mountain Cuvée" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend

Winemaker Anne Dempsey has been doing much lately to raise the profile of this popular and historic Sonoma Valley producer's wines. She calls the claret-style Mountain Cuvée a "stepping stone" to the winery's bigger Cabernets, and even Merlots! From the winery: "Mountain Cuvee honors the style and balance of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Sonoma County and pays homage to Bordeaux blends from France. We source vineyards from quality vineyards up against the Maycamas Mountain range to create balance in the wine, fruit, tannin and acid, choosing plo... Read More »

2013 Louis M. Martini "Monte Rosso Vineyard" Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely outrageous wine and probably one of the great all-time Cabernet Sauvignons from Sonoma is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard Sonoma Valley. This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the relatively recent Moon Mountain AVA, that aged for 27 months in 67% new French and 14 % new American oak. This is a wine of thrilling levels of intensity, with an incredible fragrance of spring flowers, blue fruits, black fruits, especially crème de cassis and blackberry, loamy soil undertones, and a touch of licorice and smoke. The wine is full-bod ...Read More »

2014 Olema Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points James Suckling: "A fresh and linear Sonoma cabernet with currant, berry and cherry. Medium body, firm and silky tannins. Excellent wine for the money. Go-to cab for the buck." (5/2017) K&L Notes: James Suckling calls this his go-to Cab for the money, and we couldn't agree more. As the winery explains, "the 2014 Olema Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes hand selected off vineyards in Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys in Sonoma County. This well-balanced wine features layers of juicy red and black fruit framed by soft tannins. 2014 was an excellent vintage for Sono... Read More »

2014 Louis M. Martini Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the best values in Cabernet Sauvignon anywhere in the world remains Louis Martini’s Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County (89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot and the rest Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc and other varieties) is just a beautiful wine. Dense ruby/purple with classic tobacco leaf, blackcurrant, loamy soil notes and a touch of wood spice, this wine (aged 16 months in French and American oak) has relatively modest alcohol for Cabernets these days (13.5%), and what’s even more remarkable is that there are 408,0 ...Read More »

2015 Louis M. Martini Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

Robert Parker writes: "This winery was created in 1933 (following Prohibition) by the Martini family. They are still heavily involved, but the property was eventually sold to friends of the Martinis, the Gallos, although Mike Martini still runs the operation. These wines are iconic, given that fact that the Martinis have long been custodians of an extraordinary vineyard site in Sonoma, the Monte Rosso Vineyard, which was first planted in 1890."

2015 Decoy Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

About the producer: "Since the inaugural vintage of our Decoy Napa Valley Red Wine almost a quarter century ago, Decoy has taken an important place in the Duckhorn Wine Company family of wines. With a reputation for delivering great quality at a remarkable price, Decoy has established a loyal following for its distinctive style, which emphasizes ready-upon-release wines that are capable of expressing their full charm and complexity in their youth. 2013 Arrowood Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Vinous: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Knights Valley), all Knights Valley fruit in this vintage, is superb. Raspberry jam, spice, scorched earth, rose petal, cloves and new leather are some of the signatures. Knights Valley is often noted for Graves-like sense of gravel-infused minerality, naturally allied to a California expression of fruit. That is exactly what readers will find in the 2013. 2014 Laurel Glen "Counterpoint" Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Blended with 10% Merlot, this wine sources grapes both from its famous estate, as well as from nearby Pickberry and Murray vineyards. It delights in luxuriously bright acidity and a jammy explosion of blackberry, chocolate, clove and tobacco, the texture roundly approachable. (VB)" (12/2016) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Counterpoint gives youthful notes of crushed blackberries and black currants with hints of cedar and dried herbs. 2014 Anakota "Helena Dakota" Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2014 Anakota "Helena Dakota" Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota displays more blackberry, blueberry and graphite, with some flowers such as violets, notes of pen ink, a full-bodied, concentrated, succulent and fleshy mouthfeel, and a long, long finish. This is another 25- to 30-year wine." (10/2016) 92 points Vinous: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota is a bit darker, richer and bigger than the Helena Montana, with a bit more savory character, but the two wines are not that different in this vintage. Sweeping and ample in feel, the 2014 shows the more virile side of Knights Valley. 92+ (A ...Read More »

2014 Mount Peak "Sentinel" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Lastly, 4,750 cases were made of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Sentinel, 83% from the Monte Rosso Vineyard in Sonoma and the rest from other Sonoma sources. It is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petite Sirah aged in 53% new French oak. Again, ripeness is well-noted in the 15.7% alcohol, but there is not a bit of heat to the wine’s overall character. A wine of considerable stature, gravitas, intensity and full-bodied power, it is muscular, backward and somewhat primordial, this wine needs a good 1-2 more years bottle age and should last for 25-30 y ...Read More »

2013 Gundlach Bundschu "Vintage Reserve" Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Proprietary Red Vintage Reserve is the winery’s rendition of the very best lots of their Bordeaux varietals blended together and presented in an artistic package. Inky purple to the rim, the wine has flawless integration of acidity, alcohol and tannin, beautiful espresso-infused blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, chocolate, full-bodied opulence, and stunning purity and length. It is special a wine with probably 25-35 years of aging potential, even though it is more accessible than the two Cabernets from Moon Mountain. This is a beauty, so kudos ...Read More »

2008 Vérité "La Muse" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 90% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec (52% Chalk Hill, 45% Alexander Mountain Estate and 3% Bennett Valley fruit), the 2008 may have even greater intensity and richness than the 2007. Still young and unformed, it exhibits phenomenal richness and equilibrium as well as a finish that lasts nearly a minute. Its dense plum/purple color is accompanied by notions of black fruits, forest floor, truffles and spring flowers. It should age for 25-30+ years. 2014 Vérité "La Muse" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 La Muse (2,800 cases) is a legendary effort. The wine offers an opaque purple color and a gorgeous nose of lead pencil shavings, blackberry, incense, Asian spice, cocoa, plum, and a touch of chocolate and barrique. On the palate, more cassis and blackberry come to the forefront. The wine is unctuous, with adequate acidity and a stunning energy underneath the massive fruit and body. This is a spectacularly fragrant and, at the same time, dense wine, with enough structure (somewhat surprising in this vintage) to last 35-45+ years. The final blend ...Read More »

2014 Vérité "La Joie" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon dominated release is the 2014 La Joie and it’s an incredible wine based on 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and the balance Petit Verdot. Reminding me of a top vintage of Ducru-Beaucaillou (the 2010?) with it’s incredibly classic Cabernet character, it offers thrilling notes of crème de cassis, exotic flowers, liquid rock-like minerality, and graphite and lead pencil nuances. 2014 Vérité "Le Désir" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A blend of 53% Cabernet Franc, 21% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and the balance Malbec, the 2014 Le Desir is monumental stuff that has a Château Ausone-like character that’s hard to describe. its vibrant purple color is followed by a to-die-for bouquet of blackcurrants, black raspberries, cedar, tobacco leaf, and charcoal. This gives way to a concentrated, rich, yet incredibly delineated wine that has fine, fine tannin, notable freshness and purity, and a great finish. 2014 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend

This wine is fabulous in the vintage, although certainly less profoundly concentrated and extracted, as well as structured, compared to the 2013, which was off-the-charts fabulous. This is a brilliant wine, charming, with front-end loaded plum, blackcurrant and black raspberry fruit interwoven with graphite, tar and truffle notes. The wine ha ...Read More »

1993 Ravenswood "Pickberry Vineyards" Sonoma Mountain Bordeaux Blend

91-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Ravenswood's wines are not for those tasters seeking subtle, lighter-styled offerings. The impressively built, opaque purple-colored 1993 Pickberry is an extremely powerful, chewy wine with considerable fruit extraction, huge body, high tannin, and superb purity and richness. It requires 5-6 years of cellaring and will drink well for 20+ years. It may turn out to be as good as the glorious 1992. For now, I would give the 1992 a slight edge because its fruit quality and texture provide more fat and intensity. However, that is splitting straws. (RP) ...Read More »

2002 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2002 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend (99RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A great, great success (and of course, this is Knight’s Valley material), the 2002 Les Pavots, which I loved from barrel as well as bottle, still has a good 20+ years of life ahead of it. At this point, it is tasting like a vigorous young adolescent in its evolutionary development. The blend in 2002 from the winery was 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. Moreover there are just under 3,000 cases of this spectacular wine, which I’m hoping many readers have cellared away. Inky black/purple, with a nose of incense, licorice, balsamic and Asian soy notes interwoven with blackberry, blueberry and hints of truffle and camphor, this wine is full-bodied, opulent and voluptuously textured, with sensational mid-palate, depth and richness. This is a killer Bordeaux-styled, ripe, exuberant, flamboyant red from Peter Michael

Pierre Seillan believes the Chalk Hill fruit provides a truffle-like character and the Alexander Valley gives minerality, structure, tannin and intensity. Absolutely remarkable in every sense -- the incredible pure aromatics of blue, red and black fruits, the minerality, the volcanic, earthy sweetness that emerges in a subtle fashion, the full-bodied opulence, the staggering finish of more than a minute, and its unreal concentration certainly make this one of the most compelling and profound Cabernet Sauvignons I have ever tasted, and the first perfect wine of 2016.
