2013 Walter Hansel "Cahill Lane" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Top Pick!
2013 Walter Hansel "Cahill Lane" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of three clones - Dijon clones 114 and 115, as well as Rochioli material - the 2013 Pinot Noir Cahill Lane has a dark ruby color and a fragrant style with floral and earth tones intermixed with strawberries and black cherries. The sweetness of the tannin as well as the heady glycerin and lushness make for a hedonistic and intellectually satisfying Pinot Noir to drink over the next 7-10 years. Some of the best values in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir emerge from Stephen Hansel’s winery in the Russian River Valley. He also has the wonderful Walter Han ...Read More »

2013 Roth Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir Top Pick!
2013 Roth Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Pinot Noir is a seductive style of Pinot, with a medium ruby color, notes of black cherry and raspberry, light tannin, and not much depth, but it is superficially attractive and supple. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. (RP)" (3/2016)

2014 Ramey Russian River Pinot Noir

88-90 points Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir (Russian River) is an attractive, mid-weight wine, especially within the context of the Russian River, where the wines can be much more exuberant. Bright red cherry, game and spice notes open up in this very pretty, delineated Pinot from David Ramey. There is plenty to look forward to. Vineyard sites are: Westside Farms, Bucher and Keller. 2014 Paul Hobbs Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Pinot Noirs are richer wines. The 2014 Pinot Noir Russian River, which is in bottle, displays a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, medium to full body, and lots of raspberry and black cherry fruit that moves toward bluer fruits on the palate. This is a beauty to drink over the next 7-8 years. (RP)" (3/2016)

Bold, intense flavors race across the palate as this powerful, resonant Pinot shows off its class and personality. Expressive spice notes wrap around a core of dark red fruits in an expressive Pinot that delivers the goods, and then some. Stephen Hansel is one of the most intelligent winery owners in Sonoma. 2012 Alysian Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Praise from the Prince of Pinot for the winemaker: "Gary Farrell is considered by many the father of Russian River Pinot Noir. Since the 1980s, his wines have been among the best from the Russian River Valley." Winemaker's tasting notes: "Many of the vineyard lots used to make this cuvée sat on skins for about a week after fermentation. My intention was to increase the tannin to add more complexity in the mouthfeel after some cellaring. This wine is quite approachable and crowd pleasing and I recommend opening the bottle about 15 minutes before drinking ... Read More »

It is dark ruby, lush, medium to full-bodied and ideal for drinking over the next decade. 2014 Failla Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Supple and beautifully layered throughout, the Sonoma Coast hits all the right notes. A final burst of fruit rushes across the palate on the refreshing, inviting wine. There is so much to like. 2013 Gary Farrell "Russian River Selection" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*#12 in Wine Enthusiast's The Enthusiast 100 of 2015 and an Editors' Choice* This might be one of the best values on the market, given the quality. Equal parts pretty and funky, it’s a tightly wound, savory, fruity wine that’s elegant and compelling. The tannins and oak are lightly imprinted around strawberry-rhubarb and fresh-cut rose, and the texture seductively silky. This is a delicious treat of a wine that should also age." 2014 Martinelli "Bondi Home Ranch - Water Trough Vineyard" Green Valley Pinot Noir

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The cool-climate 2014 Pinot Noir Bondi Home Ranch, from the Green Valley in the Russian River, is absolutely spectacular. It saw 80% new oak because it was so concentrated, and it seems to have sucked it up and only reveals just a slight wood spice to its full-bodied, beautifully textured, black raspberry and blackberry fruit. This is one of the profound 2014s and should drink well for 15-20 years. (9/2014) K&L Notes: Winemaker Rod Berglund, who inherited the job from his father-in-law, the legendary Joseph Swan himself, first made a Pinot Noir from one single row of Saralee's. 2015 Cep (Peay Vineyards) "Hopkins Ranch" Russian River Pinot Noir Rosé

Connoisseurs Guide: "Freshness rather than fruity volume is the major message here, and, if the wine is light on richness, it gets good marks for vigor and its close-to piquant, red cherry and strawberry traits. Its acidy inflection becomes more pronounced at the finish, and it may prove to be a little too tart for some tastes, but it will make useful drinking with entrees that call for a crisp Rosé with decidedly zesty acidity as a mate." 2012 Donum Estate "Ten Oaks" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This flirts with reduction and while it's subtle, it's enough to take the top notes off of the red cherry, currant and subtle plum scents; if you're going to try a bottle young I would suggest decanting it for 20 minutes or so first. The lush, round and very generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors possess a highly seductive mid-palate before concluding in a dusty finish that really fans out. I like the complexity and if your taste runs to big, bold and rich Pinots, this would make for a good choice." Pungent, spicy and broad, offering good weight to its dark berry jam, herb and spicecake flavors. Picks up a wild, cured meat nuance with air that carries through a warm, powerful finish firmed by juicy acidity and dusty tannins. Rod Berglund is another grower/winemaker who told me that as seductive as the 2012s can be, the 2011s probably intrigue him more because "there's a freshness, a balance and a restraint to them that's just so classically pinot." 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Pinot Noir MacLean Block comes from a vineyard east of the town of Occidental and saw 36% new French oak prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered. This is from Dijon clone 667 and 777 from a relatively high-elevation site that needs plenty of time to ripen fully. About 30% whole-clusters were used in this wine, which is dense ruby/purple with loads of spice, damp earth, forest floor and mushrooms as well as raspberry and black cherry fruit. It should drink well for up to a decade. With proprietor Don Hartford in full control, and brilliant ...Read More »

2007 Joseph Swan "Saralee's Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Tight in acidity and tannins now, but very complex, offering a range of cherry, tangerine zest, mushroom, cola and Indian spice flavors that swirl to a long finish. The mouthfeel is delicate, but the power is impressive." (8/2011) 90 points James Suckling: "Needs decanting. A delicate and fruity red with strawberries and lemon peel aromas and flavors. Balanced and pretty." (6/2012) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light red. Smoky aromas of cherry and red berries, with subtle floral and spice nuances. Sappy, open-knit strawberry and raspberry preserve flavors are round and tannin-free. Gains sweetne ...Read More »

2006 Kosta Browne Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep, bright red. Sexy strawberry and raspberry scents, with suggestions of fresh flowers, smoky minerals and gingerbread. Silky in texture and seductively sweet, with spicy red fruit preserve flavors that gain energy with air. Finishes clean and brisk, with the attractive red fruit flavors lingering impressively. (ST)" (5/2008) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A high-toned raspberry and cranberry fruit nose that also displays subtle spice and menthol hints introduces round, supple and easy to like flavors up until the finish that is overtly warm if attractively sappy." (10/2008) Wine Spectator: "Mature and ...Read More »

2005 Williams Selyem "Westside Road Neighbors" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red. Explosive strawberry and raspberry liqueur scents are accented by exotic spice and cola notes on the vibrant nose. Enticing sweet red berry flavors are lifted by fresh acidity and firmed by dusty tannins. The finish of suave, focused red fruits shows excellent persistence and purity. Platonic Russian River pinot that's irresistible right now. (ST)" (6/2007) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "I love the delicate complexity of this Pinot, which is a blend of five vineyards along this famous wine trail. If you want to understand RRV Pinot, and particularly from the stretch they call ...Read More »

2003 Williams Selyem "Westside Road Neighbors" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Compared to the winery’s regular Russian River bottling, this is considerably more tannic. Yet it doesn’t take long for the spiced plum pudding, cherry compote, black raspberry, cola and smoky oak flavors to kick in. Fantastic now, and should hold for the remainder of this decade." (11/2005) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Dark purple-red, very rich and complex, with concentrated wild berry and blackberry fruit flavors that are firm and dense. Impressive for its depth and focus; the flavors pick up a plum and boysenberry note on the finish." (8/2005) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The outstanding, dark ruby/purple-tinge ...Read More »

1996 Williams-Selyem "Olivet Lane" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red-ruby color. Tight berry and spice nose hints at almost port-like ripeness. Creamy-sweet in the mouth, with a fat texture and elevated alcohol (14.9%); flavors are rather zinfandel-like. Williams, who told me that the vineyard owner picked these grapes several days later than Williams would have liked, called this slightly high-toned wine "pinot port." The above release is far more typical pinot noir, but some tasters (including fans of the 1994 Oregon vintage) will love this huge, sweet wine." (5/1998)

2001 Williams Selyem "Rochioli Riverblock" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The ’99 was a joy and so is this stunning wine. It has a perfume of violets, blackberries, dried autumn leaves, succulent raspberry tart, licorice, coffee, and all sorts of other wholesome scents. The flavors, which are similar, drink complete and complex, at once subtle and compelling. Absolutely addictive in its interesting complexities, and undoubtedly will improve with a few years in the bottle." (5/2004) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Pinot Noir Rochioli Riverblock Vineyard (521 cases) is a spectacular effort. A striking nose of crushed rocks is intertwined with rose petal ...Read More »
