94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beautiful ripe, plump, fat and opulent style of Cabernet Sauvignon that Caymus has pioneered, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has a dense purple color, loads of juicy blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, low acidity and no real evidence of oak, but a nice, plush, full-bodied opulence. This is irresistible, especially for a Cabernet Sauvignon coming in at 14.9% natural alcohol. Drink it over the next decade or more (RP)." (12/2015) K&L Notes: For the second year in a row, Caymus has released the 1 liter size bottles! These were a huge hit last year and quantities are limi... Read More »
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*#36 in Wine Enthusiast's "The Enthusiast 100 of 2015"* Very fruity and fresh in aroma, this elegant wine has light, crisp apple and lemon flavors, fresh-baked bread accents and lively acidity. A layered texture seems to blend in accents of almond and vanilla, increasing complexity with each sip. It’s one of California’s bluechip bubblies." (12/2015) 93 points Wine Spectator: "*#60 on the Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2015* Impeccably refined and elegant, with floral aromas of fresh brioche, baked apple and roasted hazelnut. The flavors are layered and well-focused, showing notes of min ...Read More »
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* The fruit flavors are apparent, fresh and lively in this medium-bodied, beautifully balanced brut. Light pear and pineapplearomas are followed by richer pear and citrus flavors, and subtle hints of baking spices, almonds and a nice earthy touch emerge." (12/2015) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Sleek and charming, with yeasty apple torte and floral cherry aromas and rich, crisp flavors of lemon curd, spicy vanilla and fresh ginger. Drink now." (10/2015) 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Once again taking its place as one of our favorite non-vintaged Bruts, Roederer stands out for its refinement and custom ...Read More »
90 points Wine Spectator: "Crisp and lively, with green apple, cream and fennel aromas and vibrant tropical fruit. The lemon and spice flavors finish on a clean mineral note." (11/2013) Connoisseurs Guide: "J's new Cuvée 20 is an inviting, very-easy-to-sip bubbly, the star player in which is lively, lightly candied, lemon-like fruit, yet there is a nice trim of subtle yeastiness at work as well, and the wine is clear about its champenized origins. It is fresh, clean tasting and frothy, and, while it finishes with plenty of bright, palate-cleansing acidity, it is never so tart or austere that it cannot a ...Read More »
93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs bottlings seem to always evoke a little more richness than most even as they remain true to the lighter imperatives of the category and this one does so once again here. The wine is nicely autolyzed but not aggressively yeasty and shows genuine sophistication and a wonderful sense of poise at every stop with a brightening bit of citrus set against a gentle, carefully matched touch of toast. It will make memorable drinking with tangy finger foods, but we cannot help thinking of fresh, briny oysters when sipping this altogether ...Read More »
91 points Wine Spectator: "Supple and richly styled, with aromas of tart apple and spiced hazelnut, followed by Meyer lemon, brioche and zesty cinnamon notes. Drink now. 3,555 cases made." (6/2015)
92 points Wine Spectator: "Plush, with floral strawberry and brioche aromas and rich, layered flavors of blood orange, gingerbread and almond. Drink now" (10/2015) K&L Notes: From Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies: “The 2012 Brut Rosé has generous aromas of mixed red berries, orange blossom, and white peach. Its fruitful nose is complemented by notes of shortcake and cream. The palate bursts with flavors of raspberry sorbet, lemon custard, and summer apricot. The wine has a fresh and juicy acidity which drives to a supple, round finish.” 76% Pinot Noir, 24% Chardonnay
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This lovely Mendocino sparkler, crafted from two-thirds Chardonnay and one-third Pinot Noir, has lilting apple and honey aromas buoyed by a thick head of mousse. There is a pleasing follow-through from aroma to flavor and a core of ripe apple. Dry, soft with a long finish, this is a hard-to-resist food-friendly wine ready to pair widely." (12/2013) 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Good Value* Long on autolyzed richness with a very keen sense of vigorous young fruit in the nose and following with long, impressively layered flavors of citrus, minerals and rich yeast, this exceptionally we ...Read More »
From the winery: "Founded by the noble family behind Champagne Taittinger, Claude Taittinger's search for a worthy U.S. counterpart began in the late 1970s. In 1987 he selected a 138-acre parcel in the heart of Carneros, Napa Valley. Wisely selecting Eileen Crane to oversee the development of the winery and vineyards, the team created the quintessential California expression of the Taittinger style in Carneros."
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The outstanding NV Brut Rosé (66% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay and 1% Pinot Meunier) displays loads of strawberry and Kir cocktail-like notes in a fresh, light to medium-bodied, delicious style that is essentially dry, with tiny, well-formed bubbles and good, crisp acids. (RP)" (10/2015)
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* A complex and complete wine with everything in place, this tastes delicious from the first whiff to the lingering finish. It has fresh-baked bread and light peach aromas and white-cherry flavors. Well balanced, it’s layered on a subtle level and harmonious." (12/2015) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Floral aromas of raspberry and white chocolate open to crisp, festive flavors of graham cracker, spice and red apple." (11/2014) Wine & Spirits: "This captures the frank, delicious energy of Anderson Valley pinot noir (60 percent of the blend) in tones of red raspberry, orange peel and cherry ...Read More »
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Made from 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, then aged three years, this wine offers a copper-pink color followed by dry, firm acidity and highlights of cherry, cassis and grapefruit zest. A gentle nudge of nutmeg closes in on the finish, giving the wine a salty air and complex ending. (VB)" (12/2015) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Delicate and refined, showing raspberry and gingerbread aromas that lead to sleek, focused flavors of red apple, vanilla and almond, finishing on a clean, minerally note. Drink now. (TF)" (12/2015) K&L Notes: Though smaller than the Napa Valley's big sparkling wine house... Read More »
90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "**Good Value** It may be that its fairly high percentage of Pinot Noir affords this impressive non-vintage Brut with a sense of substance and depth not usually found at the price, or it may be the wine's ample autolyzed richness does the same. Either way, the wine is long on character, all of which is quite good. It has a fine, creamy feel, and an insistent stream of small bubbles with lengthy flavors to match, and it is made all the more attractive yet by its reasonably modest price." (11/2014) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A festive sparkler, featuring bright aromas of raspberry and ...Read More »
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better is the non-vintage Mirabelle Brut Rose, which is 55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot Noir sourced from the same areas, although here more comes from Marin and Mendocino than Napa, while Sonoma is also included in the mix. This dry rose has a lovely light salmon color, a big, sweet kiss of strawberries, and touches of raspberries and currants. The wine is medium-bodied and very frothy, with well-defined bubbles, and good intensity, dryness and finish. A beauty as well as a terrific value, it should be drunk over the next 1-2 years." (8/2013) Wine Enthusiast: "A pink-tin ...Read More »
93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another blockbuster is Tensley's 2014 Syrah Colson Canyon. Yields were down close to 40% for this vineyard in 2014. The only wine to see new oak, it spends roughly 11-16 months in 40% new French oak prior to bottling. It offers incredible notes of graphite, olive tapenade, white pepper and decadent levels of black raspberry that flow beautifully to a full-bodied Syrah that has a huge mid-palate, plenty of tannin and a monster finish. It should have 10-12 years or longevity. (JD)" (8/2015) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2014 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is a big, bombastic wine. Tens ...Read More »
90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted as a barrel sample, the 2014 Syrah Santa Barbara is a sexy, sweetly fruited and voluptuous Syrah that offers up a rockin' bouquet of blueberry, blackberry, violets and pepper. It should drink nicely on release and over the following 5-6 years. Santa Barbara County’s Joey Tensley continues to make ripe, textured and voluptuous wines that deliver serious bang for the buck. The latest 2013s and 2014s are all outstanding. However, recent vintages are pushing on the sweetness level, and in a number of cases, there’s obvious residual sugar in the wines ...Read More »

91 points Wine Spectator: "Packs in a lot of complexity, with aromas of apple, fresh ginger and rubber that lead to crisp and layered flavors of raspberry and spice." (11/2014) Wine Enthusiast: "Mostly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this blend includes smaller percentages of Pinot Meunier and Pinot Gris as well. Light golden in color, it’s a zingy, long-lingering taste of citrus and berry that’s creamy on the palate with a floral nose." (12/2014) K&L Notes: A blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, this wine is a soft, fruity style of sparkling wine reminiscent of black cherry and strawberry with a lovely pale pi... Read More »
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Small in production and clearly defined from Carneros, this Blanc de Noirs blends 92% Pinot Noir with 8% Chardonnay to great effect. Pretty in peach color, the intense flavors are a combination of fresh-cut herb and strawberry kirsch." (12/2014) Connoisseurs Guide: "*Good Value* On the one hand bright and fruity and on the other showing a bit of yeasty richness even as it flirts ever so slightly with candied cuteness, this effervescent offering is lifted by its youth and finds a very comfortable place in the mainstream of affable, easy-to-drink California Blanc de Noirs that a ...Read More »
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The non-vintage Mirabelle Brut white is sourced from Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Marin County and is made from 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir. The blend of young and older wines gives it a creamy richness, with lots of ripe peach and honeyed brioche, backed up by a medium-bodied, crisp, fresh, pure, dry sparkling wine that offers well-defined, small bubbles." (8/2013) Wine Enthusiast: "A brassy color and generous fruit flavors define this rich, dry and sophisticated bubbly. It has vivid cherry and white peach flavors, a smooth effervescence, crisp acidity and a lingering ...Read More »
91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Starting off the 2013s and the first vintage, the 2013 Syrah Tensley Vineyard comes from the newly planted (4th leaf fruit) vineyard planted around Tensley’s house. Showing notions of smoked beef, leather and licorice to go with a core of plum and currant fruit, this full-bodied, deep and textured effort will drink nicely on release and over the following 5-7 years, possibly longer. This is another great lineup by Joey Tensley. He has a couple new releases in the lineup (Syrah 27m and the Tensley Vineyard), and his single vineyard releases continue to o ...Read More »
Wine Enthusiast: "The film director’s sparkling ode to his director daughter delivers aromas of apple blossoms, pear cider and chalk. An apparent sweetness on the palate is cut with a pithy grip, the apple-juice base leveled with ample lime elements." (5/2015)
Heidrun is a meadery in Point Reyes Station that specializes in dry and crisp sparkling meads produced from single-varietal flower honeys. All of their meads are produced in a Champagne method--complete with riddling, disgorgement, and secondary fermentation--and are serious, Champagne-inspired sparklers with delicious honey flavors. The alfalfa clover bottling is their lightest mead, with subtle notes of menthol and lavender behind dry honey aromas.
This unique and stylish twist on Sauvignon Blanc has a core of racy crispness driven by lively acidity, accented with lemon-lime aromas (no cat-grass - no worries) and citrus-passion fruit flavors. This medley of deliciousness accumulates to form a light, yet flavor-intense festive palate experience...There are also bubbles, lots and lots of tiny-tiny bubbles.
From the producer: "Brut Rose is the most vivid and bold of our Sparklings, both in terms of flavor and color. Made mostly from Pinot Noir - bright, full, dry with a soft, almost creamy mouthfeel. The gorgeous color comes form letting the Pinot Noir sit on the skins. This vintage is aged 6 plus years en tirage."
From the producer: "The 2013 Blanc de Blancs has bright and fresh aromas of grapefruit, mango, apricot, lemon, and white peach. The fruitful fragrance intermingles with hints of fresh bread, vanilla cream pie, and rose petals. Freshly sliced Gravenstein apples, zesty citrus, and bright pineapple flavors carry vibrant length on the palate.” – Winemakers Sean Thompson and Hugh Davies
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light peach skin color, with a slow bead. Musky orange peel and herb aromas, with a hint of white chocolate. Fleshy, weighty and smooth in texture, offering ripe citrus and pit fruit flavors and a touch of green cardamom. Slightly loose-knit but packs a punch, finishing with an echo of candied orange and lingering sweetness." (5/2012) Wine Enthusiast: "A rounded texture, layered flavors of raspberry and baking spices and an almost sweet finish make this rosé very tempting. It strikes a good balance between acidity, fruit flavor and effervescence. Made from 57% Pinot Noir an ...Read More »

Originally from Humboldt County, California, Heidrun moved to West Marin in recent years. They make a méthode champenoise style sparkling mead that's all about the terroir of the honey it's made from—no, really: besides their Point Reyes estate mead, they purchase honey from beekeepers who service the ag industry in places like Madras, Oregon, where farms grow carrot for seed—thus the blossom that feed the bees. The result is a sparkling, spicy mead that's just slightly reminiscent of a sour beer or a Jura wine—maybe even patchouli!
