Heitz Cellar "Ink Grade" Napa Valley Port (375ml)

As Wall Street Journal wine writers Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher advise, "If you ever see Heitz Cellars' Ink Grade Port...grab it!" (from "Give Sweets a Chance," 10/2009). It's sound advice, for this rich and intensely satisfying dessert-style wine from Heitz sure does hit the sweet spot for under $20! A blend of eight different Portuguese grape varieties with distinctive character from the Ink Grade Vineyard in Napa Valley, the current blend draws from the 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages. From the winery: "The deep hue of our Ink Grade Port sets the to... Read More »

2013 Domaine de la Terre Rouge Shenandoah Valley Muscat-á-Petits Grains (375ml)

Virginia Boone of Wine Enthusiast raves: "Rhône specialist Bill Easton began making Muscat à Petits Grains in 1995, inspired by his love of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. A wine he creates only in certain years, it’s a deliciously balanced delight of apricot and honey-nectar flavors with a crème brûlée richness. It pairs perfectly with fresh fruit and cheese, as a first course with foie gras or with fruit or nut desserts."

2010 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml)

Dolce is Napa's ultimate Sauternes-style dessert wine, with its noble botrytis underpinning and joyful acidity. A combination of late harvest Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from a 20-acre estate vineyard in the temperate town of Coombsville, the vineyard is naturally sheltered from the wind so that the morning fog and natural humidity lingers to allow botrytis to take hold on the grape clusters. The luxurious Sauternes style is completed by 32 months in new French oak before bottling. The wine will pair well with foie gras, poached figs, blue or washed-rin... Read More »

Of the 2002 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K The Straw Man" Edna Valley Semillon (375ml),Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The virtually perfect 2002 Mr. K. The Straw Man boasts astounding statistics. Aged 30 months in barrel, with only 7.2% alcohol, it carries 482 grams per liter of residual sugar (half the wine), and 7.8 grams per liter of acidity. It is simply off the charts. Sexy, eye-popping, palate-staining stuff, it is like liquefied honey with extraordinary complexity, aromatics yet freshness and delineation. I simply do not understand how this wine was made given the technical numbers and its amazing sugar. It is neither heavy nor cloying, and is a remarkable tour de force created by t

2007 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml)
Bid on this 375 ml 1-bottle lot of 2007 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml) (96WE). Wine Enthusiast: "Another spectacular Dolce, which continues the brand's string of successes and further emphasizes its standing as one of California's greatest- white dessert wines. It lacks a touch of the concentration found in the 2006, but it dazzles nonetheless with intricate, sweet flavors of honey, butterscotch, golden-apricot nectar, orange marmalade, pineapple tart, vanilla and buttered toast. And all that is brightened by crisp acidity. Terrific to drink now, and it will hold in a proper cellar for a decade. The blend is 82% Sémillon and 18% Sauvignon Blanc. " (03/2013)

Meyer Family California Port (500ml)

The Meyer Family Cellars' California Port is made from several vintages of old vine Zinfandel that averaged eight-years-old upon release. It's vinified in a modified version of the traditional Portuguese solera method, and has rich, roasted black fruit flavors, dried cherries and chocolate. There's also a higher tone from the addition of Zinfandel brandy, which adds kirsch-like cherry and cassis notes. Try this sweetie with some funky cheese, like the Red Hawk from Cowgirl Creamery, or with a chocolate torte drizzled with chocolate ganache and fresh rasp... Read More »

Of the 2003 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K" Straw Man (375ml),Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "A monumental wine of great intensity, richness, aromatic complexity, and a honeyed sweetness and balance that are almost beyond belief. Frankly, I don’t know how elixirs such as this can be made, but they demand unreal patience as well as meticulous attention to detail in both the vineyard and the winery. Like all SQN wines, what one confronts is brilliant singularity and individuality that provide us - mere mortals - the opportunity to watch and experience a genius play with our senses of pleasure and intellect. Whether we ever fully comprehend them is irrelevant - it is the challenge and fun of the quest that is damn fun! (RP) " (08/2006)

2005 Williams Selyem "Vista Verde" San Benito County LH Gewurztraminer (375ml)

According to the producer's website: "Williams Selyem Winery began as a simple dream of two friends, Ed Selyem and Burt Williams, who pursued weekend winemaking as a hobby in 1979 in a garage in Forestville, California, and made their first commercial vintage in 1981. In less than two decades, Burt and Ed created a cult-status winery of international acclaim. Together they set a new standard for Pinot Noir winemaking in the United States, aligning Sonoma County's Russian River Valley in the firmament of the best winegrowing regions of the world. 2005 Sine Qua Non Atlantis FE 203-3e Roussanne Vin de Paille (375 ml)

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Atlantis Fe 203-3e Roussanne Vin de Paille is a 100% Roussanne cuvee possessing 352 grams of residual sugar per liter. While it is a stunning effort, when tasted next to the two Mr. K. whites, it comes in slightly below those two out-of-this-world offerings. Incredible aromas of honeysuckle and marmalade are classic late-harvest Roussanne, and the wine’s sweet style is beautifully balanced by terrific acidity (12.5 grams of acid per liter). (RP)" (6/2008) 94 points Vinous: "for 375 ml.; 8.2% alcohol with 352 grams per liter of residual sugar) Deep gold color. Hugel ...Read More »
