This Napa Valley Port wine is a blend of the 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages. It is made from the classic Portugese varietals Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Sauzao, Tinta Cao, Tinta Bairrada, Tinta Madeira, Tinta Amarela and Bastardo. The wine is characterized by its fruity character with a lush, velvety mouthfeel. It can, of course, be enjoyed for dessert as well as with cheese, or as an aperitif. Joseph Phelps' Eisrébe is this famous winery's version of German Eiswein made from 100% Scheurebe grown at the Phelps' home ranch in Spring Valley. While traditional Eiswein requires that the grapes be frozen on the vine, it doesn't get cold enough in Spring Valley for that, so the winery concentrates the grapes' sugars by freezing them to negative 5 degrees after harvest and then pressing them.
