This Napa Valley Port wine is a blend of the 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages. It is made from the classic Portugese varietals Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Sauzao, Tinta Cao, Tinta Bairrada, Tinta Madeira, Tinta Amarela and Bastardo. The wine is characterized by its fruity character with a lush, velvety mouthfeel. It can, of course, be enjoyed for dessert as well as with cheese, or as an aperitif. Grown on their Home Ranch Vineyard in St. Helena, Joseph Phelps makes Eisrébe as a nod to German ice wines. From 100% Scheurebe (shoy-RAY-buh) grapes, the Napa Valley latitude does not allow for natural freezing on the vines as in Germany. 95-96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium gold. Knockout nose offers pure botrytis aromas of orange oil, apricot, clove, marzipan, chocolate and mocha. Extraordinarily thick and honeyed but with bracing acids leavening the flavors of marzipan, coconut, brown sugar and orange rind.
