Heitz Cellar "Ink Grade" Napa Valley Port (375ml)

As Wall Street Journal wine writers Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher advise, "If you ever see Heitz Cellars' Ink Grade Port...grab it!" (from "Give Sweets a Chance," 10/2009). It's sound advice, for this rich and intensely satisfying dessert-style wine from Heitz sure does hit the sweet spot for under $20! A blend of eight different Portuguese grape varieties with distinctive character from the Ink Grade Vineyard in Napa Valley, the current blend draws from the 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages. From the winery: "The deep hue of our Ink Grade Port sets the to... Read More »

Heitz Cellar "Ink Grade" Napa Valley Port

This Napa Valley Port wine is a blend of the 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages. It is made from the classic Portugese varietals Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Sauzao, Tinta Cao, Tinta Bairrada, Tinta Madeira, Tinta Amarela and Bastardo. The wine is characterized by its fruity character with a lush, velvety mouthfeel. It can, of course, be enjoyed for dessert as well as with cheese, or as an aperitif. The Wall Street Journal enthusiastically agrees in its October 2009 article, titled "Giving Sweets a Chance": "If you ever see Heitz Cellars' Ink Grade Port.... Read More »

2013 Domaine de la Terre Rouge Shenandoah Valley Muscat-á-Petits Grains (375ml)

Virginia Boone of Wine Enthusiast raves: "Rhône specialist Bill Easton began making Muscat à Petits Grains in 1995, inspired by his love of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. A wine he creates only in certain years, it’s a deliciously balanced delight of apricot and honey-nectar flavors with a crème brûlée richness. It pairs perfectly with fresh fruit and cheese, as a first course with foie gras or with fruit or nut desserts."

2010 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml)

Dolce is Napa's ultimate Sauternes-style dessert wine, with its noble botrytis underpinning and joyful acidity. A combination of late harvest Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from a 20-acre estate vineyard in the temperate town of Coombsville, the vineyard is naturally sheltered from the wind so that the morning fog and natural humidity lingers to allow botrytis to take hold on the grape clusters. The luxurious Sauternes style is completed by 32 months in new French oak before bottling. The wine will pair well with foie gras, poached figs, blue or washed-rin... Read More »

Meyer Family California Port (500ml)

The Meyer Family Cellars' California Port is made from several vintages of old vine Zinfandel that averaged eight-years-old upon release. It's vinified in a modified version of the traditional Portuguese solera method, and has rich, roasted black fruit flavors, dried cherries and chocolate. There's also a higher tone from the addition of Zinfandel brandy, which adds kirsch-like cherry and cassis notes. Try this sweetie with some funky cheese, like the Red Hawk from Cowgirl Creamery, or with a chocolate torte drizzled with chocolate ganache and fresh rasp... Read More »

2008 Sine Qua Non "Jinete Bajo Vin de Paille" California Roussanne (375ml) (OWC)
Bid on this 3-half-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "Jinete Bajo Vin de Paille" California Roussanne (375ml) (OWC - 96RP, 95ST) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The days of the Mr. K wines are gone forever with the tragically premature death of Austrian Alois Kracher, who had partnered with Manfred Krankl in this intriguing homage to sweet nectars. Krankl continues on his own, and in Spring, 2011, he will release the 2008 Jinete Bajo Roussanne Vin de Paille, which is named after his wife's favorite horse. Made from 100% estate fruit, with a finished alcohol level of 11.8%, a whopping 240 grams per liter of residual sugar, and 8.7 grams of acidity, this is a pure nectar of honeyed marmalade, waxy, syrupy honeysuckle, exotic creme brulee, and citrus. The remarkable acidity cuts through the extraordinary sweetness, so the impression is fresh and vibrant. Krankl has pulled off a marvelous balancing act with this cuvee. How long will it last? I have no idea - maybe 50-100 ye

2003 Joseph Phelps "Eisrébe" Napa Valley Late Harvest Scheurebe (375ml) New!
2003 Joseph Phelps "Eisrébe" Napa Valley Late Harvest Scheurebe (375ml)

Joseph Phelps' Eisrébe is this famous winery's version of German Eiswein made from 100% Scheurebe grown at the Phelps' home ranch in Spring Valley. While traditional Eiswein requires that the grapes be frozen on the vine, it doesn't get cold enough in Spring Valley for that, so the winery concentrates the grapes' sugars by freezing them to negative 5 degrees after harvest and then pressing them. The 2003 is rich and viscous, with honeyed stone fruit aromas and flavors and a lingering sweetness balanced by vibrant acidity. Try it with foie gras or a rabb... Read More »
