Heitz Cellar "Ink Grade" Napa Valley Port (375ml)

As Wall Street Journal wine writers Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher advise, "If you ever see Heitz Cellars' Ink Grade Port...grab it!" (from "Give Sweets a Chance," 10/2009). It's sound advice, for this rich and intensely satisfying dessert-style wine from Heitz sure does hit the sweet spot for under $20! A blend of eight different Portuguese grape varieties with distinctive character from the Ink Grade Vineyard in Napa Valley, the current blend draws from the 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages. From the winery: "The deep hue of our Ink Grade Port sets the to... Read More »

2010 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml)

Dolce is Napa's ultimate Sauternes-style dessert wine, with its noble botrytis underpinning and joyful acidity. A combination of late harvest Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from a 20-acre estate vineyard in the temperate town of Coombsville, the vineyard is naturally sheltered from the wind so that the morning fog and natural humidity lingers to allow botrytis to take hold on the grape clusters. The luxurious Sauternes style is completed by 32 months in new French oak before bottling. The wine will pair well with foie gras, poached figs, blue or washed-rin... Read More »

2012 Sine Qua Non "Shackled" Vin de Paille (375ml)

This dessert wine from Manfred Krankl's Sine Qua Non is made from the grape variety Petit Manseng. This variety is originally native to Southwest France and is naturally suited to sweet wine production. A "straw wine", the harvested grape clusters are placed on straw mats to partially dehydrate and produce a naturally concentrated dessert wine.

2005 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K Noble Man" Chardonnay (375ml)
Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 2005 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K Noble Man" Chardonnay (375ml) (98RP, 93ST, 93VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made from 100% Chardonnay from the Alban Vineyard, the 2005 Mr. K. The Nobleman possesses 235 grams of residual sugar per liter as well as exceptional acid levels. This incredibly rich, sweet white is almost like the Quintessence bottlings from Alsace’s Domaine Weinbach. Its mind-boggling purity, balance, intensity, and sweetness are balanced by the wine’s zesty acidity. An amazing achievement fashioned from 100% botrytised fruit, it will keep for 20 or more years. (RP)" (06/2008)

2002 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K The Noble Man" Edna Valley Chardonnay (375ml)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Mr. K The Noble Man (321 grams per liter of residual sugar and 10.25 grams per liter of acidity) is made from 100% botrytised Chardonnay. Its medium gold color is followed by a wine with honeyed complexity, and huge body, sweetness, and thickness. This effort is never as complex or focused as its siblings, but it is still a phenomenal sweet wine that can stand on its own merits against any great sweet wine made in the world. (RP)" (6/2005)

2003 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K The Noble Man" Chardonnay (375ml)

95-96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium gold. Knockout nose offers pure botrytis aromas of orange oil, apricot, clove, marzipan, chocolate and mocha. Extraordinarily thick and honeyed but with bracing acids leavening the flavors of marzipan, coconut, brown sugar and orange rind. Higher-toned than the gewurztraminer, with a spirity suggestion of Gran Marnier. Krankl was about to bottle this. I have rarely tasted such thoroughly botrytized Chardonnay. (ST)" (7/2005) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Mr. K. The Nobleman, a 100% Chardonnay made from botrytised fruit, possesses 278 grams of residual sugar per liter a ...Read More »

2006 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K Noble Man" Tasting Lot (375ml) (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle 2006 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K Noble Man" Tasting Lot (375ml) (OWC) (OWC), including 2-bottles of 2006 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K Noble Man" California Chardonnay (375ml) (95RP, 94ST) and 1-bottle of 2006 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K Straw Man" Marsanne Vin de Paille (375ml) (97RP, 95VN). Of the 2006 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K Straw Man" Marsanne Vin de Paille (375ml),Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2006 Mr. K The Strawman Marsanne Vin de Paille is 100% Marsanne from the Beckmen Vineyard that boasts 240 grams of residual sugar per liter. A medium gold-colored effort, it reveals more marmalade notes interwoven with notions of maple syrup, honeysuckle, and exotic tropical fruits. While untuously-textured with remarkable sweetness, it is not cloying because of the fresh acids. I have no idea how long these wines will last, but they will undoubtedly keep for many years. 2009 Williams Selyem "Vista Verde Vineyard" San Benito County Port (375ml)

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dark and viscous, this greets the nose with expected aromas of raisin and prune, but rises above with nutmeg, cardamom, clove and sleek graphite notes. The first impression on the palate is sweet plum nectar, but the grippy tannins prove seductive and the ripping acidity keeps it quaffable. The fascinating finish is all about chocolate-covered nuts." (5/2015)

2001 Sine Qua Non "Inamorata" Roussanne Vin de Paille (375ml) (OWC)
Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 2001 Sine Qua Non "Inamorata" Roussanne Vin de Paille (375ml) (OWC - 98RP, (94-95ST)) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There is one barrel of the Sine Qua Non cuvee, the 2001 Vin de Paille Inamorata, which spent 42 months in oak, resulting in 350 grams per liter of residual sugar, and a whopping 12.8 grams per liter of acidity. Tasting notes are inadequate to describe this profound sweet 100% Roussanne. A medium amber color is accompanied by a honeyed perfume revealing scents of marmalade, espresso, maple syrup, and flowers. Unctuously-textured yet incredibly fresh and lively (because of high acidity), this phenomenal wine should age effortlessly. Amazingly, the alcohol is only 7.8%. The fruit was air-dried on straw mats for over a month prior to pressing. (RP)" (06/2005)
