2014 Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1L) Top Pick!
2014 Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1L)

The little brother to Caymus' famed "Special Selection" Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery's Napa Valley release has also been a consistent 91+ point wine in Wine Spectator for the past 10 years--although the 2014 has not yet been professionally reviewed. It's also been a 90-and-better hit lately with Robert Parker, who recently reaffirmed his praise for the winery in Wine Advocate: "I am old enough to remember Chuck Wagner and his father, who I first met at Caymus in the late seventies. This is clearly one of Napa Valley’s iconic wineries, as well as one th... Read More »

2013 Alexander Valley Vineyards "Wetzel Family Estate" Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) Top Pick!
2013 Alexander Valley Vineyards "Wetzel Family Estate" Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "87% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest mostly Merlot with a little Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The wine has a dark ruby/purple color and lovely blackcurrant, licorice-infused notes with subtle background wood spice. It is ripe, has an excellent texture, is medium-bodied and is best drunk over the next 3-4 years. (RP)" (3/2016) K&L Notes: The Wetzel family has been growing Cabernet Sauvignon in Alexander Valley since the 1960s, and embody the Sonoma County spirit of winemaking, charging very fair prices for estate-grown, Alexander Valley wines, yet always in... 2014 Rombauer Carneros Chardonnay (1.5L)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The least expensive Chardonnay from Rombauer, the 2014 Chardonnay Los Carneros was aged nine months in a combination of French and American oak. It has a light gold color with a greenish hue, attractive nectarine and citrus oil notes, medium body, and subtle wood. (RP)" (12/2015) K&L Notes: Cool climate Carneros fruit and Rombauer's house style of élevage make this Chard a top choice vintage after vintage.

2011 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

The 2011 is hot off the presses and hasn't been reviewed yet, but the 2010 earned 92 points from Wine Spectator: "Shows a good touch of bottle age and a notably oaky presence, marked by dill, vanilla bean and coconut notes wrapped around a rich, authoritative, full-bodied core of dark berry, licorice, dusty, loamy earth and espresso. Drink now through 2028." (06/2015)

2014 Spottswoode Napa/Sonoma Counties Sauvignon Blanc (1.5L)

From the producer: "Our Sauvignon Blanc is quintessentially Californian, with a beautiful ripeness balanced with wonderful structure and acidity. Grapes from a handful of carefully selected vineyards join our Spottswoode Estate fruit in the composition of this wine. A combination of small, stainless barrels, French oak, and concrete, egg-shaped cuves are utilized in fermentation. This technique results in a complex, rich, and vibrant wine that stands well on its own, pairs beautifully with food, and is further enhanced with a bit of cellaring. An invitin... Read More »

2010 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) Top Pick!
2010 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

97 points Vinous: "The 2010 Opus One has become incredibly elegant and polished over the last year, while retaining its power, structure and intensity. Explosive throughout, the 2010 is every bit as compelling as it has always been. Hints of rose petal, violets, lavender and mint add nuance as the wine turns a bit brighter and more floral over time. Readers who can be patient will be rewarded with a fabulous wine, but the 2010 is pretty hard to resist, even today. This is yet another terrific showing from the 2010. 2012 Stolpman "Originals" Ballard Canyon Syrah (1.5L)

It’s silky and lush once sipped, with fine-grained tannins and all shades of purple fruit and flower flavors." (12/2014) 93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Two Stars* The latest line-up of Stolpman Syrahs is nothing short of a true embarrassment of riches, and this wine made from the oldest block of Syrah in Ballard Canyon is a powerful and impressively extracted working that manages to be both brawny and well-behaved at once. 2013 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC)
Bid on this 1.5 liter 1-bottle lot of 2013 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC - 100RP, 98JS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Sparky, which is essentially made from clone 4 from two separate blocks, clone 6 and clone 337, is another perfect wine from the Schraders. I suppose it’s a little boring to say, and perhaps I can be accused of creating unrealistic expectations on the part of readers, but this is as great as Cabernet can be. Tasting like a first-growth Pauillac, the wine is opaque purple and has a fabulous nose of lead pencil, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry and the telltale cassis. There is also some licorice and sweet oak, the tannins are ripe, and the wine full-bodied. Built like a skyscraper, with an incredible finish (like most of these wines) going on for 50 seconds to a minute, this amazing wine should still be drinking splendidly well at age 25 or 30. Full-bodied, nicely concentrated, with solid mid-palate depth and a great texture, it should drink nicely on release and keep for a decade or more. (JD)" (8/2015) 93 points Vinous: "Bright ruby. 2012 Chappellet "Pritchard Hill Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (Previously $500)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense purple-colored 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill Estate (one of Napa’s fashionable go-to terroirs) exhibits a striking bouquet of spring flowers, blueberries, raspberries and blackcurrants. This is a compelling wine with profound depth and flavor, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and a velvety integration of tannin, acidity and wood. 2006 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

95 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Three Stars* Among the deepest, most complete Cabernets that we have yet encountered from 2006, Shafer's latest tête de cuvee wins high praise for both concentration and keen focus. Its plentiful blackcurrant fruit dovetails perfectly with its equally generous oak, and it flavors build and build en route a long and wonderfully sustained finish. There is great scale and substance about this one, yet the wine manages to avoid being too much, and it will age famously for ten years or more on the strength of its exceptional balance." 2014 Ridge "Geyserville" Alexander Valley Zinfandel (1.5L)

93 points Vinous: "The 2014 Zinfandel Geyserville is just as beautiful from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich, textured and dense on the palate, the 2014 exudes depth, but in the mid-weight style of the year. The complexity of the Zinfandel-based field blend comes through in spades. The 2014 is creamy and persistent, but also graced with a mid-weight, finessed personality that is impossible to resist. In 2014, the Zinfandel is on the lower side relative to the recent past, with other grapes in the blend playing more important roles. (AG)" (7/2016) K&L Notes: Winemaker notes: "Dark pur... It is full and fleshy with just the right touch of structural grip, and it has real potential for growth even while being inviting now. It will satisfy in the short term with a juicy Porterhouse steak, but it is bound to get better and will gain in complexity for six to ten years." The 2005 Proprietary Red Reserve Claret, sourced from both Napa and Sonoma, is a blend of 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon. Tight and youthful, with excellent depth and structure, this is a remarkably thick, intense and vibrant wine that appears to have a long life ahead. (JL)" (5/2003) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In comparison to the 1991, the 1992 Rubicon (2,956 cases) possesses a dark, opaque ruby/purple color, followed by a cleaner, riper, sweeter nose of black fruits, licorice, oak, and earth. Lovely concentration and purity of raspberry flavor; offers sappy freshness and a silky texture. Finishes long and subtle, with light, dusty tannins. Still quite young. This seems superior to the '97 release. The crop level was low in '98 and the berries were small, notes Soter, who added that there were more problems with heat in both '96 and '99. Although its sheer sense of mass and immediacy will hold it in reasonable stead as a near-term partner to meats on the bone, it has the strength and the structure to grow even better with time and deserves a wait of at least five years if not ten." 2001 Hourglass Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

Richly fruity, pure, full-bodied and layered, this voluptuously textured, dramatic, flamboyant Cabernet Sauvignon needs 2-4 more years of cellaring to hit its prime and should keep for two decades thereafter. This Merlot-dominated blend reminds us why Duckhorn earned its reputation as one of California's preminent sources for Merlot. Winemaker notes: "From its aromas of Santa Rosa plum, creme de cassis, violet and Herbes de Provence to its enticing flavors of olallieberry, sticky toffee and vanilla bean, this is a complex and compelling expression of Napa Valley Merlot."

Generous in its creamy texture, this is a match for filet mignon." (6/2015) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Already bottled, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Artemis is similar to its siblings. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello (80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 9% Petit Verdot that reached 13.4% alcohol) represents a severe selection of only 40% of the vineyard's crop. A blockbuster, powerful, concentrated Monte Bello, it possesses an opaque purple color, plenty of spicy oak in the nose (100% American oak has always been used for aging Monte Bello), and a deep, layered, concentrated style. There is plenty of tannin, but it is sweeter than that found in the 1997, and the wine is more concentrated and extracted. 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Greenish gold. Pungent aromas of dried pear, lemon pith, saffron and smoky lees, with slow-building minerality and a touch of peat. Densely packed but energetic, offering lively orchard and citrus fruit flavors and an exotic floral quality. The peaty note resonates strongly on the finish, which hangs on with impressive tenacity. For all its power, this chardonnay conveys a sense of weightlessness. (ST)" (6/2011) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene is a totally seamless wine graced with endless layers of apricots, peaches, white flowers and spices, all o ...Read More »

2010 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

97 points Vinous: "The 2010 Monte Bello is just as stunning as it has always been. Today, the 2010 appears to be entering a closed phase, so it is best left alone for at least another 5-10 years, perhaps longer. The signatures are super-ripe, exotic fruit, sweet aromatics and firm tannins, all of which ensure the 2010 will be utterly magnificent in a few decades. The growing season was characterized by mostly cold weather, with an unexpectedly intense heat spike in mid-October that gave the fruit a final push. One of the things that makes this vintage so compelling is the ...Read More »

1995 Qupé "Bien Nacido Vineyard" Santa Barbara County Syrah (1.5L)

Qupé owner Bob Lindquist has been working in the Central Coast vineyards since 1975, while the winemaking trade in the area was still in its infancy. He worked for Jim Clendenen (who would later found Au Bon Climat) at Zaca Mesa Winery and founded Qupé in 1982.

1998 Behrens & Hitchcock Napa Merlot (1.5L)

Typically, this is one structured Merlot. A Cab drinker's merlot, even. Parker gave the 1999 Napa Merlot 91-93 points and had this to say: "The 1999 Merlot Napa (700 cases of a blend of three separate vineyards, Kenefick, Jaeger, and Alder Springs), is structured. It reveals a black/purple color, terrific fruit intensity, a big, weighty, blackberry and cherry-scented nose, and plenty of volume and power in the mouth. The smoky oak is beautifully integrated, as this wine seems to have already sucked up its new oak aging. There is more tannin in the finish... Read More »

1997 Long Meadow Ranch Napa Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Made by Cathy Corison, this wine is now in its second vintage, where it shows black-cherry fruit touched up by leather and spice. A big wine needing some time to come together; it is stylish for sure, with a vivid, exciting finish." (11/2000) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright red-ruby color. Cassis, black cherry, plum syrup, licorice, bitter chocolate and leather on the nose; reminded me of Saint-Julien. Concentrated and rather powerful, with slightly inky flavors of cassis and dark chocolate and a faint herbal streak. Dense and solidly built. Finishes with strong, tongue-dusti ...Read More »

2004 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The two flagship wines of this brilliant estate, which straddles the Sonoma and Napa county lines at the top of Spring Mountain, include the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot). Sixty-eight percent of the fruit comes from Sonoma and 32% from Napa. It exhibits classic notes of creme de cassis, licorice, cedarwood, incense and a hint of toasty oak in the background. Full-bodied, opulent, profound deep, rich and full with velvety edges, the tannin can be detected, but it is wonderfully integrated in this mountain-sty ...Read More »

1997 Etude Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) New!
1997 Etude Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon (1,800 cases), which will be released in October, ranks alongside the finest Tony Soter has produced. Don't miss it! Opaque purple-colored, with a gorgeously seamless personality, this unfined/unfiltered wine exhibits classic aromas of cassis, licorice, chocolate, and toast. Rich and full-bodied, with sweet tannin, a multilayered mid-palate, and a terrific finish, it possesses accessibility and opulence, but its balance and overall concentration suggest it will age for two decades or more." (6/2000) 92-93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Highly aromat ...Read More »

2003 Pride Mountain Sonoma County Cabernet Franc (1.5L)

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(blended with 25% merlot) Good full red. Aromas of black cherry, redcurrant, tobacco and mocha. Supple and sweet in the mouth, with dark berry and licorice flavors and little of the herbal character shown by so much North Coast cabernet franc. Finishes with dusty but sweet tannins, noteworthy breadth and fullness, and some lingering chocolatey oak. Excellent Cabernet Franc. (ST)" (6/2005) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A seductive style, with lavish vanilla- and mocha-laced oak wrapped around a rich, lively core of currant, wild berry and black cherry fruit that flows across the palate. ...Read More »

2003 Peter Michael "La Carriere" Knight's Valley Chardonnay (1.5 L) New!
2003 Peter Michael "La Carriere" Knight's Valley Chardonnay (1.5 L)

97 points Robert Parker: "The spectacular Chardonnay La Carriere is becoming one of my favorite California Chardonnays as it tastes like a Corton-Charlemagne on steroids. The 2003 boasts aromas of crushed rock, quince, lemon butter, and orange marmalade, followed by a full-bodied, powerful yet extraordinarily elegant wine with an amazing finish. It should drink well for 4-5 years." (12/05) 93(+?) points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Clearer light yellow color. Dee p aromas of apricot, citrus skin, nutmeg and crushed stone. Juicy, stony an... Read More »

2003 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Solidly in the Hillside Select model, this vigorous young Cab is dramatically ripe and powerful. The flavors of red and black currants, milk chocolate, figs and smoky vanilla erupt in the mouth, making the tastebuds jump with joy. However, there is also the structure, among the greatest in California Cabs. The acidity is fine, but the tannins are stupendously rich, sweet and complex, practically a food group in themselves. Stunning and gorgeous now in its youth..." (3/2008) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 is a singular style of wine, but by no means wimpy or u ...Read More »
