2014 Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1L) Top Pick!
2014 Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1L)

The little brother to Caymus' famed "Special Selection" Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery's Napa Valley release has also been a consistent 91+ point wine in Wine Spectator for the past 10 years--although the 2014 has not yet been professionally reviewed. It's also been a 90-and-better hit lately with Robert Parker, who recently reaffirmed his praise for the winery in Wine Advocate: "I am old enough to remember Chuck Wagner and his father, who I first met at Caymus in the late seventies. This is clearly one of Napa Valley’s iconic wineries, as well as one th... Read More »

2013 Alexander Valley Vineyards "Wetzel Family Estate" Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) Top Pick!
2013 Alexander Valley Vineyards "Wetzel Family Estate" Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "87% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest mostly Merlot with a little Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The wine has a dark ruby/purple color and lovely blackcurrant, licorice-infused notes with subtle background wood spice. It is ripe, has an excellent texture, is medium-bodied and is best drunk over the next 3-4 years. (RP)" (3/2016) K&L Notes: The Wetzel family has been growing Cabernet Sauvignon in Alexander Valley since the 1960s, and embody the Sonoma County spirit of winemaking, charging very fair prices for estate-grown, Alexander Valley wines, yet always in... 2011 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

The 2011 is hot off the presses and hasn't been reviewed yet, but the 2010 earned 92 points from Wine Spectator: "Shows a good touch of bottle age and a notably oaky presence, marked by dill, vanilla bean and coconut notes wrapped around a rich, authoritative, full-bodied core of dark berry, licorice, dusty, loamy earth and espresso. Drink now through 2028." (06/2015)

2012 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Flirting with perfection, the 2012 Dominus is composed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Five thousand cases were produced, a relatively modest amount from this large vineyard’s big crop. Christian Moueix told me that there was plenty of heat in 2012, but there were no excessive hot spells that can plague Napa Valley vintners during the growing season and harvest. This wine’s opaque plum/purple color is accompanied by a beautiful nose of sweet crème de cassis, a touch of background oak (only 40% new oak is used), spice box ...Read More »

2014 Spottswoode Napa/Sonoma Counties Sauvignon Blanc (1.5L)

From the producer: "Our Sauvignon Blanc is quintessentially Californian, with a beautiful ripeness balanced with wonderful structure and acidity. Grapes from a handful of carefully selected vineyards join our Spottswoode Estate fruit in the composition of this wine. A combination of small, stainless barrels, French oak, and concrete, egg-shaped cuves are utilized in fermentation. This technique results in a complex, rich, and vibrant wine that stands well on its own, pairs beautifully with food, and is further enhanced with a bit of cellaring. An invitin... Read More »

2010 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) Top Pick!
2010 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

97 points Vinous: "The 2010 Opus One has become incredibly elegant and polished over the last year, while retaining its power, structure and intensity. Explosive throughout, the 2010 is every bit as compelling as it has always been. Hints of rose petal, violets, lavender and mint add nuance as the wine turns a bit brighter and more floral over time. Readers who can be patient will be rewarded with a fabulous wine, but the 2010 is pretty hard to resist, even today. This is yet another terrific showing from the 2010. It’s silky and lush once sipped, with fine-grained tannins and all shades of purple fruit and flower flavors." (12/2014) 93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Two Stars* The latest line-up of Stolpman Syrahs is nothing short of a true embarrassment of riches, and this wine made from the oldest block of Syrah in Ballard Canyon is a powerful and impressively extracted working that manages to be both brawny and well-behaved at once. 2013 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC)
Bid on this magnum of 2013 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC - 100RP, 98JS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Sparky, which is essentially made from clone 4 from two separate blocks, clone 6 and clone 337, is another perfect wine from the Schraders. I suppose it’s a little boring to say, and perhaps I can be accused of creating unrealistic expectations on the part of readers, but this is as great as Cabernet can be. Tasting like a first-growth Pauillac, the wine is opaque purple and has a fabulous nose of lead pencil, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry and the telltale cassis. There is also some licorice and sweet oak, the tannins are ripe, and the wine full-bodied. Built like a skyscraper, with an incredible finish (like most of these wines) going on for 50 seconds to a minute, this amazing wine should still be drinking splendidly well at age 25 or 30. 2013 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Tablas" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (1.5L)

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Still not bottled, the 2013 Esprit de Tablas (40% Mourvedre, 28% Syrah, 22% Grenache and 10% Counoise) reveals a deep ruby color to go with lots of kirsch, black cherries, rose petal and underbrush. Full-bodied, nicely concentrated, with solid mid-palate depth and a great texture, it should drink nicely on release and keep for a decade or more. (JD)" (8/2015) 93 points Vinous: "Bright ruby. 2014 Rombauer Carneros Chardonnay (1.5L)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The least expensive Chardonnay from Rombauer, the 2014 Chardonnay Los Carneros was aged nine months in a combination of French and American oak. It has a light gold color with a greenish hue, attractive nectarine and citrus oil notes, medium body, and subtle wood. (RP)" (12/2015) K&L Notes: Cool climate Carneros fruit and Rombauer's house style of élevage make this Chard a top choice vintage after vintage.

2011 Ridge "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

In keeping with the style of the year, the 2011 is medium in body, feminine and gracious. Best of all, it will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. (AG)" (7/2014) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Blended from lots that didn’t make it into the flagship Monte Bello, Ridge’s 2011 Estate is still a pretty classic Santa Cruz Mountains cabernet, shot through with cassis aromas, bright acidity and dark, mineral tannins. 2006 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

Its plentiful blackcurrant fruit dovetails perfectly with its equally generous oak, and it flavors build and build en route a long and wonderfully sustained finish. There is great scale and substance about this one, yet the wine manages to avoid being too much, and it will age famously for ten years or more on the strength of its exceptional balance." Silky tannins balance the gravitas of the 100+ year-old Zinfandel in a focused, nuanced Geyserville built on raciness. Bright red cherry, plum and floral notes punctuate the finish. It is full and fleshy with just the right touch of structural grip, and it has real potential for growth even while being inviting now. It will satisfy in the short term with a juicy Porterhouse steak, but it is bound to get better and will gain in complexity for six to ten years." This seems superior to the '97 release. The crop level was low in '98 and the berries were small, notes Soter, who added that there were more problems with heat in both '96 and '99. The 2005 Proprietary Red Reserve Claret, sourced from both Napa and Sonoma, is a blend of 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon. Bid on this magnum of 1994 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) (96RP, 95ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1994 Insignia (a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc) is spectacular. I have had the wine a half-dozen or more times, and it is unquestionably opulent, sexy, flamboyant, explosively rich, concentrated, and a thrill to drink. Already gorgeous, it promises to evolve gracefully for two decades or more. The color is a healthy saturated dark purple. Ripe and full-bodied, with low acidity, and a fleshy, succulent texture, it is a wine to drink over the next 14-15 years." Ridge doesn't irrigate these vines-nor do they inoculate the juice to start fermentation, which yielded a modest 13.2 percent alcohol in 2004. The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Paradise Hills Vineyard (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has turned out even better than I predicted seven years ago. Made by Helen Turley when she was the consultant at Blankiet from tightly spaced, steep hillside vineyards planted by her husband, John Wetlaufer, it exhibits a beautiful nose of flowers, high quality unsmoked cigar tobacco, creme de cassis, chocolate, espresso and blueberries. Extraordinarily young, fresh and fabulously concentrated ...Read More »

2011 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

96 points James Suckling: "Extremely minty with dried flowers, dark berries and currants. Full body but refined, with super-integrated tannins. The wood, ripe fruit, tannin and acid balance is beautiful. Wonderful potential here." (5/2014) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Possibly the Cabernet Sauvignon of the vintage is Shafer’s 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select. Last year I thought it was a strong effort, but it’s even better now that it’s been bottled. With an opaque black/purple color and notes of subtle burning charcoal embers, blueberry, blackberry and graphite, the wine has a certain Bordelais minerali ...Read More »

2011 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

96 points Wine & Spirits: "The cool 2011 season turned out a pristine vintage of Monte Bello, made from Cabernet (88 percent) grown on a limestone-inflected ridge high above Silicon Valley, blended with some Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The team at Ridge let the fruit recover for two weeks following an early October storm before picking, and were more aggressive in their extraction than normal, drawing as much color and structure as possible from the delicate fruit. The aromas revolve around oak at first—anise, wood smoke, cedar bark and cinnamon—but the wood’s contribution is fine ...Read More »

2010 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

97 points Vinous: "The 2010 Monte Bello is just as stunning as it has always been. Today, the 2010 appears to be entering a closed phase, so it is best left alone for at least another 5-10 years, perhaps longer. The signatures are super-ripe, exotic fruit, sweet aromatics and firm tannins, all of which ensure the 2010 will be utterly magnificent in a few decades. The growing season was characterized by mostly cold weather, with an unexpectedly intense heat spike in mid-October that gave the fruit a final push. One of the things that makes this vintage so compelling is the ...Read More »

2009 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot): Deep ruby. Powerful, smoke-accented cherry and blackcurrant aromas are energized by zesty minerals, picking up pipe tobacco, cedar and dried rose nuances with air. Fleshy and broad but focused too, offering intense dark berry flavors and a suggestion of bitter chocolate. A sweet vanilla quality rounds out the impressively persistent finish, which shows superb clarity and solid but well-knit tannins. (JR)" (12/2013) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "A plump, black-fruited vintage of Mount Eden, this wine is showing ...Read More »

Bid on this 2-magnum lot of 2005 Pride Mountain Sonoma County Cabernet Franc (1.5L) (91CG, 91RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The elegant, dark ruby/blue/purple-tinged 2005 Cabernet Franc reveals notions of crushed rocks, menthol, blueberries, raspberries, sweet cherries, and subtle smoke and earth in the background. It is a medium-bodied, elegant Cabernet Franc with serious flavor intensity. (RP)" (12/2007)

1997 Peter Michael "Cuvée Indigene" Knight's Valley Chardonnay (1.5L) Back In Stock!
1997 Peter Michael "Cuvée Indigene" Knight's Valley Chardonnay (1.5L)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Chardonnay Cuvee Indigene (named so because it is fermented completely with indigenous vineyard yeasts) exhibits a light gold color, and a complex nose of smoky, leesy Chardonnay fruit intermixed with smoky, roasted hazelnuts, orange blossoms, and citrus. Full-bodied, with excellent underlying acidity, and more minerality to its flavors than Mon Plaisir, this profoundly concentrated, complex Chardonnay is a prodigious offering. Production was 550 cases, with the alcohol a boisterous 14.1%. (RP)" (12/1998) 94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Some sulfur quickly dissipated to reveal c ...Read More »
