2012 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (1.5L)

94 points Wine & Spirits: "Between the oak (75 percent new), the stem character (about 40 percent whole cluster) and the spicy tones of the Mount Eden clone itself, this starts out in an almost stubborn mode—pent up in a tight, mineral structure. It takes two days of air before the wild, brushy fragrance and rose-hip acidity fully sync with the plumpness of the fruit. This is a commanding California Pinot Noir for the cellar, a rugged beauty with length, substance and complexity that feels deliberate and mountain grown. Cellar it for four or five years." (10/2014) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fermented and aged ...Read More »

2010 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

96 points Wine & Spirits: "Most of the fruit for this restrained, savory cabernet comes from cuttings Emmett Rixford purportedly sourced from Château Margaux in the 1890s. Martin Ray propagated his own cuttings from that selection to plant in this vineyard's shallow, shale-laced soils at 1,800 feet of elevation in the 1940s and 50s, and later Jeffrey Patterson replanted it in the 1980s with a selection from those vines. Is it just a coincidence that, tasting this blind, my thoughts turned to a 1985 Margaux I tasted recently? Maybe it was the gentle elasticity of the texture, the v ...Read More »

2013 Philip Togni "Estate" Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

100 points Vinous: "A majestic, towering wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is even more striking in bottle than it was from barrel. Deep, unctuous and remarkably vivid for such a big, intense wine, the 2013 simply conquers all of the senses, from the intellectual to the hedonistic. A host of dark red cherry, pomegranate, spice, mint and floral notes meld together in the glass, but the 2013 is a wine to admire for its total sense of completeness. This is easily the greatest young Philip Togni wine I have ever tasted. Simply put, the 2013 is magnificent and one of the ...Read More »

2012 Duckhorn Napa Valley Merlot (1.5L)

This Merlot-dominated blend reminds us why Duckhorn earned its reputation as one of California's preminent sources for Merlot. The 2012 vintage, with its long hang time, was perfect for making a rich, seamless, structured wine. Winemaker notes: "From its aromas of Santa Rosa plum, creme de cassis, violet and Herbes de Provence to its enticing flavors of olallieberry, sticky toffee and vanilla bean, this is a complex and compelling expression of Napa Valley Merlot."

2012 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Flirting with perfection, the 2012 Dominus is composed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Five thousand cases were produced, a relatively modest amount from this large vineyard’s big crop. Christian Moueix told me that there was plenty of heat in 2012, but there were no excessive hot spells that can plague Napa Valley vintners during the growing season and harvest. This wine’s opaque plum/purple color is accompanied by a beautiful nose of sweet crème de cassis, a touch of background oak (only 40% new oak is used), spice box ...Read More »

2010 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) Top Pick!
2010 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

97 points Vinous: "The 2010 Opus One has become incredibly elegant and polished over the last year, while retaining its power, structure and intensity. Explosive throughout, the 2010 is every bit as compelling as it has always been. Hints of rose petal, violets, lavender and mint add nuance as the wine turns a bit brighter and more floral over time. Readers who can be patient will be rewarded with a fabulous wine, but the 2010 is pretty hard to resist, even today. This is yet another terrific showing from the 2010. 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Named after the famed vineyard’s south-facing slopes, this vintage is expertly crafted, with aromas of ripe red cherry, sandalwood, black pepper, graphite, purple flowers and damp pine needles. It’s complex, with dark red fruit and tickling cardamom spice set against fine-grained tannins. Quite precise and tight now, the violet and rose petal elements will expand…" (4/2015)

It’s silky and lush once sipped, with fine-grained tannins and all shades of purple fruit and flower flavors." (12/2014) 93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Two Stars* The latest line-up of Stolpman Syrahs is nothing short of a true embarrassment of riches, and this wine made from the oldest block of Syrah in Ballard Canyon is a powerful and impressively extracted working that manages to be both brawny and well-behaved at once. 2012 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay (1.5L)

95 points Vinous: "An utterly enticing, striking wine, the 2012 Chardonnay is captivating from the very first taste. Lemon oil, white flowers and mint are some of the signatures. The 2012 remains subtle and hushed in the glass, with striking interplay of fruit, acidity and bright saline notes. Above all else, the 2012 speaks to pure class. Once again, Mount Eden's Chardonnay stakes its claim as one of this country's oenological jewels. The 2012 appears to have a very bright future. 2013 Barnett "Rattlesnake Hill" Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The opaque blue/purple color jumps from the glass of the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Rattlesnake, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 90% new French oak. A nose of white flowers, blueberries, blackberries, cassis should make this one of the most profound Rattlesnake Cabernet Sauvignons made yet at Barnett Vineyards. 2009 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) (Previously $849)

94 points Vinous: "The 2009 Opus One is impeccable. It brings together the silkiness of the 2007 with the power and darkness of the 2008, a combination that is hugely appealing, to say the least. With a little air, the 2009 can be enjoyed young, but it is best cellared for at least a few years, which will allow some of the baby fat to drop off. The blend is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot and 1% Malbec." (6/2013) 93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of orange peel, currants, olives and subtle rosemary. Grapes from a handful of carefully selected vineyards join our Spottswoode Estate fruit in the composition of this wine. A combination of small, stainless barrels, French oak, and concrete, egg-shaped cuves are utilized in fermentation. Stony minerality plays on the palate throughout, buoying complex components of jasmine and a lingering, more concentrated finish of honey. With plenty of structure and stuffing, it’ll only get better over time, through about 2018." This is Clone 4 and Clone 6, as well as Clone 337, blended together from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, aged in 100% new Darnajou barrels. For whatever reason, this wine seems to show more chocolate, espresso roast, barbecue smoke, dense blackberry and blueberry fruit and enormous body with not a touch of heaviness or astringency. Loads of crème de cassis, blackberry liqueur, licorice, incense and oak jump from the glass of this huge, massive, concentrated and ripe wine that reminds me of some of the early vintages from Michael Dunn’s father, Randy, particularly the 1982 and 1984. Bid on this magnum of 1997 Philip Togni Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (98RP, 98VN, 92ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon has to be one of the great buys left for profound Napa Cabernet. He’s done the aging for you, and of course the wine is still an adolescent in terms of aging potential. Brilliant notes of cedar, spice box, cassis, smoke, and licorice soar from the glass, as if this wine were pretending to be a first-growth Pauillac. Full-bodied, powerful, still with a boatload of tannin to resolve, and just a faint lightening of the dense purple color at the rim, this is a brilliant wine from a vintage that produced relatively quick-evolving wines, but no such thing is tolerated at Philip Togni. This is a great Cabernet Sauvignon with the exuberance, purity, and richness of fruit that Napa provides, but with a Bordeaux structure that Togni, with his Bordeaux upbringing, somehow builds into the wine. 1984 Silver Oak "Bonny's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

90 points Robert Parker: "Tasted twice in the last eight months, this wine was one of the superstars at one of the tastings, and the most controversial wine at the other. In the most recent tasting the wine revealed an intense, olive, herbal, minty component accompanied by exotic, over-ripe, jammy, cassis, and black-cherry fruit. Bid on this magnum of 2004 Philip Togni Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (95RP, (90-93ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Readers looking for more ripeness, opulence, and an extroverted character should check out the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which is actually a larger crop than 2005. This sensational dense purple-colored effort boasts delicious blueberry, black raspberry, cassis, licorice, and olive-like notes. In the mouth, there is more creme de cassis as well as background toasty oak, structure, and tannin. I don't think there has ever been a vintage where Philip Togni has cheated anybody on flavor intensity or tannic structure as his wines always last, even in lighter vintages, for twenty or more years. The 2004 will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age, and should last for 25-30 years. It is, atypically for the vintage, front-end loaded." (12/2006)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I should not be surprised that the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select merited a perfect rating since I rated it 99 eight years ago. I also gave the 2002 Hillside Select a perfect rating. Kudos to Doug and John Shafer for creating two perfect wines in back to back vintages. The 2001 is a big wine (14.9% natural alcohol), but the alcohol is buried beneath an avalanche of creme de cassis, wood smoke, toast, licorice and spring flower characteristics. Super full-bodied with fabulous fruit purity, a broad, expansive mouthfeel, lots of glycerin and a huge upside, this 2001 is still an infant at age ten, but it is approachable as well as compelling to smell and taste. It’s a beauty, perfectly balanced and as flawless and seamless as a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa can be. Drink it over the next 25 years. (RP)" (04/2010)

2008 Terra Valentine "Estate" Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (Previously $110)

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "You can taste the sun in this elaborately ripe Cabernet. It blasts off in an eruption of blackberries and cherries that are so powerful, they veer into the liqueur versions of these fruits. Despite potent mountain tannins, it’s drinkable now, and will pair just fine with a great steak, simply grilled, salted and peppered." (12/2011) Wine Spectator: "True to Spring Mountain, this weaves together a savory mix of dried herb, mineral, dried berry, cedar and licorice flavors that are pleasantly rustic, full-bodied and firmly tannic. Cellar and/or decant." (10/2011)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The elegant, dark ruby/blue/purple-tinged 2005 Cabernet Franc reveals notions of crushed rocks, menthol, blueberries, raspberries, sweet cherries, and subtle smoke and earth in the background. It is a medium-bodied, elegant Cabernet Franc with serious flavor intensity. (RP)" (12/2007)

2002 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the world’s greatest wines year in and year out is Shafer’s Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select. The 2002 was a candidate for perfection the first time I tasted it. The estate keeps this cuvee 32 months in 100% new French oak, so I had a number of chances to see it from barrel. Moreover, I purchased the wine for my own cellar and have had it at least a half dozen times since bottling, and it just gets more profound with each sip. This wine is beyond belief for how it balances its extraordinary richness, purity of personality, and the elegance and f ...Read More »

1978 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (depressed corks, some soiled labels)

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Unknown % of To Kalon; the winemaker thinks “a big chunk, maybe most.” Still good color, getting a pretty bouquet of old cabernet. Delicate, inviting, refined, not at all morbid. Very dry, lots of week cassis. Soft, distinguished, still lots of life ahead. Sweet vanilla, butter. Old claret." (6/2005) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "With repesct to older vintages, in October I tasted three of Mondavi's more renowned Cabernet Sauvignons. The 1978 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve has consistently been a 90 point wine. It remains a beautiful Cabernet, displaying cedar, tobacco, and black currant f ...Read More »

2003 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Solidly in the Hillside Select model, this vigorous young Cab is dramatically ripe and powerful. The flavors of red and black currants, milk chocolate, figs and smoky vanilla erupt in the mouth, making the tastebuds jump with joy. However, there is also the structure, among the greatest in California Cabs. The acidity is fine, but the tannins are stupendously rich, sweet and complex, practically a food group in themselves. Stunning and gorgeous now in its youth..." (3/2008) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 is a singular style of wine, but by no means wimpy or u ...Read More »

2006 Pride Mountain Sonoma County Cabernet Franc (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2006 Pride Mountain Sonoma County Cabernet Franc (1.5L) (93WE, 92WS). Wine Enthusiast: "This is one of the few Cab Francs in California that works on its own. It’s really a gorgeous wine, showing the full-bodied firmness of Cabernet Sauvignon, but without the tannic weight and density. The flavors veer toward scrumptious red cherries, red currants, milk chocolate and anise, with a dry, complex finish. Lovely with a fine grilled steak and rosemary new potatoes." (07/2009)
