2006 Heitz "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Spectator: "There's much to admire in this young Martha's, though it lacks the accessibility of the 2005. The core mint-chocolate-covered cherry and berry flavors are tight and structured, true to the vintage, so it's best to cellar this one and see what happens. The wait is usually worth it. Best from 2013 through 2021. (JL, Web Only-2011)" K&L Notes: In the 1960s, Heitz Wine Cellars was part of the new wave of the Napa Valley, and their sought-after Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was perhaps one of the first "cult" Cabs. Today, Heitz is better known as one of the "old gu... Read More »

2006 August West "Graham Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light red color. Strikingly aromatic nose offers smoky cherry and dark berry scents complicated by musky herbs, baking spices and cola. Deeply concentrated, supple dark fruit flavors meld sweetness and vivacity seamlessly. Gains weight on the finish, which features cherry-cola and ripe blackberry qualities. A sexy, forward style that's delicious today." (6/2008) Wine Spectator: "Ripe plum and wild berry fruit has a spicy, floral edge. Full-bodied, balanced and delicate, ending with integrated tannins. The best of two bottles tasted." (9/2009) K&L Notes: This new vintage from boutique p... Read More »

2006 Pax "Alder Springs - Emerald Pool" Mendocino County Syrah

Noted winemaker Pax Mahle returns to traditional methods and grapes for his Pax label (while his Wind Gap label is geared toward more esoteric varietals). Working with distinctive organically farmed cool-climate sites, Mahle's focus is on small-production, minimal-intervention winemaking, with native-yeast fermentations, and no fining or filtering. He seeks to let the terroir and the vintage speak through the wine. Alder Springs is a high-elevation, sandstone vineyard with a long, cool growing season.

2006 Zepaltas "Suacci Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

A subtle vanilla quality builds with air and carries onto the palate, sweetening the tangy red and dark berry flavors. Silky, fresh, precise pinot with very good finishing lift and cut." 2006 Pride Mountain Napa-Sonoma Counties Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2006 Pride Mountain Napa-Sonoma Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Pride has here again authored a wine of great size and command. It is intense, focused, deep, tight and open at the same time, loaded with sweet curranty perfumes and happily endowed with rich oak in the nose, and it is full and supple to start on the palate and tannic to finish. Its inviting underbelly is not to be ignored as it gives the wine a certain drinkability even now when paired with chunks of grilled meat, but its convincing fruit and its solidity promise to keep the wine in good stead for years of rewarding aging. *Two Stars*" (4/2010) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Richness ...Read More »

2006 Freeman Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Textbook Russian River Pinot, an absolutely delicious wine that pleases every which way. Dry and crisp in acids, light and silky in the mouth, its flavors are complex, suggesting ripe, mashed cherries and raspberries, cola, vanilla, cinnamon spice and smoky oak. Drink now." (10/2008) 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Absolutely first rate in its complex portrayal of youthful, keenly focused, pristine red cherry fruit tinged with notes of dried roses and sweet smoke, this medium-full-bodied bottling may not be the most intense offering in these pages, but it will challenge all comers for pr ...Read More »

2006 Rudius Russian River Valley Syrah

90 points Wine Spectator: "This concentrated red offers a medley of beefy pepper, spice, plum and wild berry flavors that are supple and balanced, focused and persistent. (JL)" (12/2009) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red. Aromas of mocha, smoked meat, toffee and exotic spices show an almost roasted chocolatey ripeness. Fat, lush and sweet, with liqueur-like dark berry, mocha and smoked meat flavors perked up by a peppery nuance. A bit warm with alcohol but has plenty of buffering flavor. 2006 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

This is subtle and complex, but needs another three years." (4/2011) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Blackberry, cassis and boysenberry aromas complemented by licorice, violet, menthol and bitter chocolate. Juicy, intensely flavored and quite fresh but a bit youthfully disjointed, with a firm tannin/acid spine supporting the crushed dark berry and menthol flavors. 2006 Kistler "Cuvée Natalie-Silver Belt Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red color. Loamy red berry and cherry aromas expand with air, picking up strong floral and smoky mineral qualities. The floral note gains strength with air and carries onto the palate, adding complexity to the wine's deep, chewy cherry and dark berry flavors. This is like two wines in one, with a high-pitched nose and a deeper, weightier palate. The finish strongly echoes the cherry and mineral notes and refuses to let up. This wine has more Swan clone than the other Pinots. (ST)" (6/2009) Wine Spectator: "Firm and complex in aroma, this is tighter and more compact on ...Read More »

2006 August West "Rosella's Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

This may be August West's best Rosella's yet, evocative of this incredible site (and source of some of the most sought-after pinots on the market) in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Intriguing spicy fruit charms on the nose and continues onto the palate, which is juicy with rhubarb, berry and cola flavors, balanced by natural acidity and a hint of toast on the finish. Hold onto this one until the end of 2008 and then enjoy it for the next 5-7 years.

Medium-bodied with some tannin to be resolved, it possesses outstanding ripeness, purity, and overall texture. (RP)" (12/2007) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. 2006 Freeman Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Hard to imagine anyone not falling in love with this lilting Pinot Noir." 2006 Kistler "Cuvée Elizabeth - Bodega Headlands" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Black raspberry, spring flower (violets), and kirsch aromas soar from the glass of this dark ruby/purple-tinged wine. Medium to full-bodied with zesty acidity, beautiful penetration, and a soaring mid-palate as well as length result in a prodigious example of Pinot Noir that should drink well for a decade or more. Powerful kirsch and blackcurrant aromas are deepened by dark chocolate and mocha. Deep and chewy, with concentrated cherry and dark berry flavors, picking up baking spices on the back end. 2006 Copain "Thompson Vineyard" Santa Barbara County Syrah

93 points Robert Parker: "One of my favorite California wine producers, Wells Guthrie, like a champion truffle-hunting dog, seems to unearth top vineyards for his wines. The other 2006 Pinots I tasted, as well as the 2007s, all seem austere, rather attenuated in the finish, and essentially angular. While obviously less charming and fleshy in their youth, I doubt they will age any better since there is not a whole lot of flesh on them. Part of this can be explained by the vintage of 2006, but that wouldn’t explain the same stylistic orientation of the 200... Read More »

As is often the case with Insignia bottlings, it is so beautifully balanced that it invites early drinking, and, while we do not condemn giving in to its charms, we also would lobby strongly for patience as its best years lie down the line. ***Three Stars***" (12/2009)

2006 Carver Sutro "Palisades Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Sirah

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Carver-Sutro's 2006 Petite Sirah Palisade Vineyard is extraordinarily tannic and backward, making it difficult to fully evaluate. It possesses a dense purple color, but the 2006 does not appear to have the intensity of fruit, mid-palate, or length of the estate's other efforts. This thick, opaque-purple colored wine offers up notes of scorched earth, ground pepper, and blackberry liqueur intermixed with cassis, licorice, camphor, and tar. 91 points and two stars from the Connoisseurs Guide to California Wine: "The slightly riper wine of a very ripe pair from Eric Kent, this big, broad-shouldered bottling is absolutely brimming with dark-cherry fruit, yet for all of its size and sense of muscle, it is no clumsy oaf and it shows surprising nuances of violet, orange rind and cocoa. Its richness comes at the cost of a bit of finishing heat and tannin, but a little patience and service with a mustard-crusted rack of lamb should show this one off at its very best."
