2006 Beaulieu Vineyard "Tapestry Reserve" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Proprietary Red Wine Tapestry Reserve (a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot) is the finest example of this cuvee I have ever tasted. Flowery, licorice-infused, cassis notes intermixed with forest floor and lead pencil shavings are followed by a layered, impressively built wine with real opulence, lots of red and black fruits, low acidity, and lush tannin. It should drink well for 15+ years." (12/2009) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A terrific wine, delicious and classic in structure. 2006 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend Top Pick!
2006 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Already amazingly seductive with wonderfully rich aromas of sweet oak, cocoa and fully expressed fruit making a first-rate introduction, this riveting young wine in no way lets up on the palate and delivers deep, multi-faceted flavors that combine ripeness, sweet oak and very precise fruit in near-perfect proportion. As is often the case with Insignia bottlings, it is so beautifully balanced that it invites early drinking, and, while we do not condemn giving in to its charms, we also would lobby strongly for patience as its best years lie down the line. ...Read More »

2006 Pax "Kobler Family" Green Valley Syrah

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky ruby. Precise red and dark berry aromas are complicated by violet, five-spice powder, smoked meat and minerals. Strikingly lithe and precise, with deep but vibrant raspberry, blueberry and Asian spice flavors. Silky tannins give the wine shape and carry through the long, sappy finish. Wonderfully suave Syrah, clocking in at a moderate 13.5% alcohol. (ST)" (5/2008) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a cool Green Valley site, the deep ruby/purple-tinged 2006 Syrah Kobler Family Vineyard exhibits hints of lard, blackberries, asphalt, and smoke, medium to full body, sweet tannin, and ...Read More »

It is a generous style of wine, with loads of fruit that expresses the character of the vintage in its front-end loaded ripeness and headiness. Big, sweet fig, tobacco leaf, blackberry, and cassis notes with some spice and earth are all present in this beautifully rich wine. This full-bodied, creamy textured Cabernet possesses superb concentration, lovely purity, and a multilayered mouthfeel. It should drink well for two decades or more. (RP)" (12/2008) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Exhibits a tight structure and a firm core of rich dark berry, currant and mocha flavors, ending as strong as it starts.?Robert Mondavi vertical (December 2015). 2006 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour" Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "...Beaulieu has succeeded with this dramatic, classic Cabernet Sauvignon. It's absolutely delicious, offering a range of blackberry, black currant and cedar flavors, complexed with notes of chocolate, anise, sweet smoky leather and Asian spices. Beautiful now for its velvety softness, but has the inherent structure to last for a long time. Through 2013, and much longer if you like older Cabernet." (12/2009) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour is the strongest wine made at Beaulieu in many years, it is eclipsed by the 2007. 2006 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

A big heat wave in July was the salient weather factor in this vintage. The harvest began early and continued for five weeks. Abundant smoke, chocolate, espresso roast, cassis and mocha characteristics are found in this full-bodied, powerful, layered Cabernet. Full bodied, with soft and round tannins, and a pretty, juicy, fruity finish. Bright and attractive. Give this two or three years of bottle age before trying." (2/2011) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The superb 2006 Gemstone Proprietary Red (an 890-case blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot) is from the cooler Oakville / Yountville sector of Napa. 2006 Zepaltas "La Cruz Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

90-points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red, with a slight haze. Fresh red berries and pomegranate on the nose, with lavender and baking spices building with air. Zesty redcurrant and wild berry flavors are sharply focused and lithe, picking up sexy vanillin oak spice on the back end. Finishes juicy, brisk and minerally. It’s beautifully clean and dry, with sound currant, blackberry, herb tea and cedar flavors, but is missing a certain fatness in the middle." (6/2010) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Cinq Cepages (in this vintage, truly a Cabernet Sauvignon rather than a proprietary red as it is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot) possesses soft, sed ...Read More »

Charcoal, creme de cassis, unsmoked cigar tobacco, and earthy characteristics are present in its fragrant bouquet. It possesses sweet tannin, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and immediate accessibility, although it can be cellared for 15 more years." Most of the fruit comes from the Stagecoach Vineyard and the Waters Ranch. Sweet, smoky, meaty aromas interwoven with melted asphalt, camphor, blackberry, cassis, and charcoal scents emerge from the complex aromatics. 2006 Cain "Five" Spring Mountain District Bordeaux Blend

Jancis Robinson: "Dark purplish crimson. Appealing juicy fruit with a little overlay of walnuts on the nose. Some personality and a fruity core. Quite dusty and full blooded with slightly rustic tannins. Distinctive! I like the fact that the winemaker has not been afraid of tannin. Quite burly rather than super smooth. Out of the mould – so therefore mountain fruit..? I just wonder whether the fruit won’t fade a little bit too early for the tannins? Dry finish. But this is serious artisanal wine. This thick, opaque-purple colored wine offers up notes of scorched earth, ground pepper, and blackberry liqueur intermixed with cassis, licorice, camphor, and tar. The wine is spectacular in every sense. Full-bodied and certainly not for wimps, this is a remarkably concentrated yet very nuanced and intense wine that should age for 20 more years. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Initially, the oak treatment is relatively strong and even affects the mouth feel. I let this air for 6 hours and came back to it to find that the wood was better integrated though hardly invisible, revealing a pretty nose of high-toned raspberry and red cherry fruit trimmed in noticeable but not intrusive wood and merges into round and naturally sweet flavors that also possess improved balance and precision after aeration, all wrapped in a slightly warm finish. 2006 Copain "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Syrah

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My favorite again, however, remains the 2006 Syrah James Berry Vineyard. There is just something so delineated and complex about the wines from this site. Additionally, they seem to have more acidity, yet also the enormous richness and massive fruit extract. Blackberries, cassis, truffle, charcoal, and some subtle smoke are all present in this wine, which comes closest to a top-notch Hermitage from this area of Paso Robles.
