2006 Cain "Five" Spring Mountain District Bordeaux Blend

Jancis Robinson: "Dark purplish crimson. Appealing juicy fruit with a little overlay of walnuts on the nose. Some personality and a fruity core. Quite dusty and full blooded with slightly rustic tannins. Distinctive! I like the fact that the winemaker has not been afraid of tannin. Quite burly rather than super smooth. Out of the mould – so therefore mountain fruit..? I just wonder whether the fruit won’t fade a little bit too early for the tannins? Dry finish. But this is serious artisanal wine. (JR)" (3/2010) K&L Notes: The 2006 Cain Five is a warm, plump, plush wine. It has a nice ... Read More »

2006 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (95CG, 94RP, 94WE, 94WS, 92JS, 92VN). Connoisseurs Guide: " *Three Stars* Already amazingly seductive with wonderfully rich aromas of sweet oak, cocoa and fully expressed fruit making a first-rate introduction, this riveting young wine in no way lets up on the palate and delivers deep, multi-faceted flavors that combine ripeness, sweet oak and very precise fruit in near-perfect proportion. As is often the case with Insignia bottlings, it is so beautifully balanced that it invites early drinking, and, while we do not condemn giving in to its charms, we also would lobby strongly for patience as its best years lie down the line." 2006 L'Aventure "Optimus" Paso Robles Red Blend

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Optimus consists of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Syrah, and 5% Petit Verdot. It reveals the exuberance of a northern Rhone, but the structure of a top Bordeaux. It is more elegant, but less understated and concentrated than the 2005. Notes of chocolate, coffee, blackberries, and tar are present in both the aromatics and attack, but then the wine closes down, displaying plenty of structure, muscle, and tannin. This 2006 clearly needs several years of bottle age to round into shape. (RP)" (6/2008) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky purple. 2006 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

93 points James Suckling: "I for one prefer the 2006 Opus to the 2007. I really appreciate the silky, refined, and aromatic quality of this wine. It’s full yet balanced with blueberry, currants, and spices on the finish. Racy is a word that comes to mind." (3/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 comes across as a bigger, more structured wine than the 2007. The tannins are bolder, more dramatic, and more present. The wine displays impressive depth, not the velvety elegance of the 2007, but is a more muscular wine that begs for 2-3 years of cellaring and should drink well for 20-25 years. 93+ points. 2006 Hundred Acre "Ark Vineyard" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More tannin and earthiness are apparent in the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Ark Vineyard. Last year, this wine revealed considerable softness, but that has morphed into a more delineated, beautifully dense, full-bodied Cabernet with dazzling fragrance and glycerin in addition to an extravagant fruit character. It, too, should drink beautifully for 20 years. (RP)" (12/2008) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red-ruby. Offering a dense purple color, gorgeous fruit, and a sweet perfume of graphite, blackberries, blueberries, charcoal, licorice, tar, and new oak, it is a dense, full-bodied, well-endowed, beautifully layered, pure Syrah that should drink well for 10-15 years. 2006 Williams Selyem Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Vivid red berry, cherry and blood orange aromas are complemented by fresh rose and dusty minerals. Racy strawberry and raspberry flavors are impressively precise, with tangy orange zest and floral pastille qualities adding verve. Gentle tannins emerge with air and extend through the long, spicy finish. 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah, largely from the 11 Confessions Vineyard, with a small amount from Bien Nacido, spent 21 months in barrel. It is really strutting its stuff now, and showing even better than my original note predicted in August of 2009. The wine has loads of meat, licorice, smoke, charcoal and graphite, as well as huge peppery, blackberry and black cherry notes. Totally sourced from the White Hawk Vineyard, and aged in 65% new oak for 23 months, there are 508 cases of this beautiful Syrah. Notes of creme de cassis, blackberries, spice, incense, flowers, ground pepper, licorice, and subtle smoke are followed by a full-bodied, layered, multidimensional, big (15.6% alcohol) Syrah. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Futo (75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot) exhibits a deep ruby/blue/purple color, a flawless integration of tannin, acidity, wood, and alcohol, and gorgeous opulence. While Futo is situated on western hillsides overlooking Oakville, it displays a style that has more in common with the purity and elegance found in Screaming Eagle, which is a few miles to the east, on the valley floor. This beautiful 2006 is a resounding success for this vintage, which had some issues with rustic tannins. It should drink well for 15+ years. Bid on this magnum lot of 2006 Aubert "UV Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (1.5L) (94ST, 92RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep, bright red. More earth and iron and less primary fruits and flowers on the nose, owing to the clay content in the soil. Then large-scaled and plump with fruit in the mouth, showing a sappy quality and more energy than the Rueling if not quite the same early pliancy. Blueberry and wild strawberry flavors emerged with air. Finishes lush and broad, with noble tannins and outstanding length. (ST)" (06/2008)

2006 Brewer-Clifton "Clos Pepe" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Expansive, strongly perfumed aromas of cherry, cured meat, rose and smoky Indian spices. Deep, chewy red berry and cherry flavors are enlivened by a peppery quality and firmed by dusty tannins. Gains sweetness on the finish, which features cherry pit and bitter chocolate. The richest and most backward of this year's set of pinots-from 100% Pommard clone." (12/2008) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Readers who like root vegetables, leafy, decaying autumnal vegetation, and Chinese black tea will get a charge out of the 2006 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe. Some red berry and pomegranate no ...Read More »

2006 Dana Estates "Helms Vineyard" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Helms Vineyard possesses the vintage’s structure and power. While this vintage is more irregular than the 2005, it has a tendency to produce more masculine-styled wines with loads of concentration, but less charm and finesse (at least at this stage). The 2006s are somewhat reminiscent of the 1996s, which followed the brilliant years of 1994 and 1995. The deep ruby/purple-hued 2006 Helms Vineyard cuvee offers subtle notes of spicy oak intermixed with forest floor and new oak. It exhibits a powerful, dense, rich finish, but over ...Read More »
