Great Price - Just Reduced! Last year’s Ancient Peaks/K&L Zinfandel bottling was such a hit with our staff and customers that we could have done another vintage of it and we all would have been incredibly happy. However, that would be too easy, and that is simply not the K&L way. I started talking to the folks at AP early this year when we began the discussion about doing another bottling together. We both knew that we wanted to, but I really wanted to show off the winery's incredible Cabernet vines and I didn’t know if they had enough Cab to let us have... Read More »
90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I think the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon will be even better, and it has more depth and texture, with gorgeous blackcurrants, violets, licorice and smoked earth all emerging from the glass. The texture here is really something, and this should be a smoking value. Made from 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and the balance Malbec and Petit Verdot, it will have 10-12 years of longevity. (JD)" (8/2014)
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Coming from a vineyard first planted by Mondavi in the late 1990s, this well-priced and widely available wine shows blackberry, violets, black pepper and just snapped dark chocolate on the nose. Fresh, lively black cherries and blueberries meld with fennel, tarragon and lots of herbal spice, all held together by smooth tannins." (11/2015) Antonio Galloni: "Bright ruby. Lively aromas of redcurrant, cherry and peppery spices, with a subtle tobacco nuance emerging slowly. Tangy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and spicecake flavors and a sugg ...Read More »
Great wines at very good prices. That is what you get from Foxglove. This is a side project from Bob and Jim Varner, who bring us the great wines from the Varner and Neely labels. The Foxglove Cabernet is amazingly well balanced. Beautiful berry and cassis fruits with nicely integrated tannins and just a hint of earthy tannin. Tremendous value.
Wine Spectator: "A zesty red, modest in scale, with enough black cherry, spice and toasted herb flavors to stay interesting. Drink now through 2018." (6/2014) K&L Notes: With the aim of creating a "rowdy and rustic" Zin to drink by the campfire, Four Vines blends 78% Paso Robles old vine Zinfandel with Petite Sirah, Grenache, Primitivo and other red varietals, aging it in American and Hungarian oak for 14 months.
Antonio Galloni: "Green-tinged yellow. Tightly wound citrus fruit and floral aromas unfold slowly picking up a hint of candied ginger. Taut and linear on the palate, offering bitter lemon and lime zest and pear skin flavors, plus a touch of anise. Closes on a tangy note, with good lift and citrus bite. Most of the Ancient Peaks wines are priced for a large target audience at what are very low tariffs for the region, but the rest are solidly at the high end, with not much in between. All of the wines, which are made by Mike Sinor (Sinor-LaVallee), have been solid in recent ...Read More »
91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(34% grenache, 33% mourvedre and 33% zinfandel; 15.2% alcohol): Bright purple. Ripe raspberry and blueberry on the nose and in the mouth. Juicy, spice-accented berry compote flavors show an appealingly silky quality and pick up a floral nuance with air. Closes on a gently sweet note, with lingering blue fruit and spice qualities. No shortage of fruit here." (11/2012) Antonio Galloni: "The 2010 Lothario is another of the more restrained wines in this lineup from Kukkula. It shows good depth and persistence, with pretty notes of tobacco, wild flowers and dried cherries linger ...Read More »
From the winery: "Aromatic with ripe black cherry, blackcurrant and berry fruit with vanilla, cinnamon and subtle dried fall leaf accents. Classic cabernet with moderate plus blackcurrant and cherry fruit and baking spice flavors on the entry. Sweet tobacco and savory herbal notes arrive on the mid palate, along with beautifully balanced tannins that provide a structure that supports the wine through its perfectly balanced, clean finish."
91 points Antonio Galloni: "Lurid reddish-pink. Ripe cherry, raspberry and rose pastille on the nose, along with suggestions of blood orange and Asian spices. Sappy, concentrated and sharply focused, offering intense red fruit and bitter orange pith flavors that spread out on the back half. Combines power and vivacity smoothly and finishes with excellent clarity, lift and floral persistence. This fleshy but energetic rosé clocks in at 14.3% alcohol, which puts it on the high side for pink wines; I'd serve it as I would a lighter red, alongside strong cheeses, assertively seasoned p ...Read More »
91 points Antonio Galloni: "Glass-staining ruby. Heady smoke- and spice-tinged aromas of cherry pie, cassis, potpourri, pipe tobacco and allspice, with a touch of vanilla slowly emerging. Juicy and penetrating, with intense black and blue fruit flavors that spread out and stain the palate. The sweet, gently tannic finish displays excellent clarity and lift and a lingering note of candied rose." (6/2015)91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate's Cabernet-dominated release, the 2012 Isosceles checks in as 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc, all of which spent 21 months in new French oak. It' ...Read More »
From the winery: "The fruit for our 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon was selected from three of our estate vineyards in Paso Robles. It was handpicked and sorted in the early morning to ensure quality and uniformity of ripeness. Afterwards, the fruit was destemmed and gently crushed into temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Pump-overs took place regularly to enhance color and help extract tannins from the skin. After pressing, the wine was racked into barrels to complete malolactic fermentation. While the majority of wine was aged in French oak, we also ... Read More »
90 points Antonio Galloni: "Glass-staining ruby. Complex, seductively perfumed aromas of cherry, cassis, pipe tobacco and potpourri, along with a smoky topnote. Juicy, spicy and penetrating, showing very good clarity to its dark berry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors. The intense, clinging, smoke-tinged finish shows a hint of floral pastilles and suave, slow-building tannins." (6/2015)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 58% Cabernet Franc and 42% Merlot, the 2012 Justification was aged 19 months in 47% new French oak. It's an impressive, full-bodied, nicely structured Bordeaux blend that gives up ...Read More »
90 points Antonio Galloni: "Ridge's 2013 Zinfandel Paso Robles, from the Benito Dusi Ranch, exudes Paso warmth and richness. Unquestionably racy and overt, the 2013 offers striking depth and intensity, with a slightly roasted, sweet quality to the fruit. Sweet tobacco, cedar and dried herbs add closing shades of nuance, but the 2013 remains quite opulent in style. Still, all the elements are in the right place. The 2013 could use a few years to soften. It will be appreciated most by readers who enjoy intense, super-ripe Zinfandels. (AG)" (7/2015) K&L Notes: The Benito Dusi Ranch in Paso Robles ... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon shows little Cabernet character, yet has good fruit and an up-front, straightforward feel in its red currants, licorice and spice. Medium-bodied and well made, it should be consumed in its first 3-5 years of life. (JD)" (8/2014) K&L Notes: From Niven Family Wine Estates and their SIP (Sustainability in Practice™ certified vineyards, this good value Paso Cab is typically bold and rich, "loaded with blackberry jam, cherry, black currant, exotic spices and cola, with notes of caramelized oak," according the winery's note.
89-91 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2013 Patelin de Tablas is quite a bit darker and richer than is typically the case. Syrah is center stage in a deep, almost brooding wine endowed with notable richness and intensity. Hints of tar, smoke, leather and black stone fruits are layered into the finish. Once again, Tablas Creek has turned out a mind-bending number of fabulous wines, from delicious entry-level whites and reds all they way up to the top selections, which remain very reasonably priced considering the quality. General Manager Jason Haas describes 2012 as a vintage with generou ...Read More »
Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star & Good Value* Although its somewhat juicy, sweetly oaked aromas of ripe cherries send a signal that this is a wine that could and should be enjoyed soon, it turns out to show a little more structure once past its early plumpness and is one on which it would be wise to wait. It has the right fruity pieces in place to commend four or five years of keeping, and it delivers far more than do most at its price level." (11/2014) Wine Enthusiast: "This vineyard from the Santa Margarita Ranch at the southern end of the appellation produces a wine with blackberry, mint, sla ...Read More »
Antonio Galloni: "Deep ruby. Dried cherry and redcurrant aromas show good energy and a hint of spiciness. Firm and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and cracked pepper qualities and a hint of candied flowers. Finishes with repeating spiciness, dusty tannins and good nervy persistence. Most of the Ancient Peaks wines are priced for a large target audience at what are very low tariffs for the region, but the rest are solidly at the high end, with not much in between. 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fresh-squeezed apple juice, grapefruit spritzer and nearly sweet cherry aromas sit atop minerality on the nose of this blend of 46% Viognier, 19% Verdelho, 19% Vermentino and 16% Sauvignon Blanc. There’s a lot of tart acidity, with a lingering apple flavor." (12/2014)
94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another great 2012, the 2012 Beautiful Earth (78% Syrah, 14% Grenache and 8% Mourvedre) has an inky purple color that-s followed by ample blackberry, blueberry, pepper, earth, mineral and hints of violets. This full-bodied, layered and seamless effort has awesome intensity and richness, notable purity of fruit and a big finish that stays focused and clean. Aged 16 months in 50% new French, give it a year and drink through 2024. (JD)" (8/2014)92 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Beautiful Earth is a gorgeous. 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A 400-case blend of 50% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 25% Mourvedre, the 2012 High Road James Berry Vineyard has a seamless, pure and elegant character to go with rock-solid ripeness. Showing plum, cassis, violet, licorice and crushed rock-like nuances on the nose, it is full-bodied, fresh and supple, yet has a serious spine of tannin that comes through on the finish. I love the purity here, but it needs another year or two in the cellar, and will have just under a decade of longevity. From the Winery; The Power of 4 – this Paso blend is more delicious than the sum of its parts. It combines grape varieties mainly from our prestigious Huerhuero Vineyard, located in the rolling hills of Paso Robles. Here, warm afternoons and cool evening breezes influence the grapes to perfect ripeness. The grapes were picked at cooler morning temperatures and cold soaked for two days prior to fermentation. Variable pump-over techniques were implemented during progressive stages of fermentation to enhance fruit extraction and balance out the tannin struc... Read More »
Antonio Galloni: "A rich, boisterous wine, the 2013 Zinfandel literally jumps from the glass with exuberant, racy red fruits. Aging in steel keeps the flavors bright, focused and floral throughout. (AG)" (7/2015)
93-95 points Antonio Galloni: "A big, explosive wine, the 2012 Esprit de Tablas is warm and ample on the palate, very much in the style of the year, yet there is plenty of power lying in reserve. In 2012, Syrah plays a larger role than in both the 2010 and 2011, which is felt in the wine broad, expansive personality. This is going to be a fascinating Esprit to follow over the coming years." (7/2014) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While the 2010 and 2011 had plenty of Grenache, the 2012 Esprit de Tablas incorporates additional Syrah to compensate for the forward, supple nature of the vintage. A blend of 40% Mourvedre, ...Read More »

Lohr Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon is red-purple in color with a bright hue at release. Sturdy tannins strike the palate and finish with the high-toned fruit signature typical of the Paso Rob... Read More »
New to K&L from Topanga Vineyards, the Chroma Cab is sourced from Paso Robles' Bootjack Vineyard and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is varietally correct with fine, supple integrated tannins and great texture on the palate. Its juicy rich fruit is well-balanced by its suprising Paso acidity and the wine is superbly food friendly. If you're looking for your next weeknight red for under $20, then look no further. This will deliver the goods! (Christie Cartwright, Hollywood Buyer)
93 points Antonio Galloni: "Bright ruby-red. Fresh red fruit and floral pastille scents are complicated by hints of smoky minerals, allspice and white pepper. Graceful, focused and alluringly sweet, displaying excellent focus to its fresh black raspberry, spicecake and lavender pastille flavors. This smooth, open-knit Grenache offers a suave blend of richness and finesse, with no excess fat. Finishes sappy and very long, with smooth tannins coming in slowly. 96 points Antonio Galloni: "Dark red plums, exotic spices, crushed flowers, menthol and new leather are some of the nuances that blossom as the 2011 James Berry Vineyard opens up in the glass. The use of 33% whole clusters adds texture and aromatic complexity in a wine that impresses for its purity. Some of the Grenache was done in concrete, which allows the true personality of the fruit to shine. Hints of tar, game and licorice meld into the expressive finish." From the winery's estate Margarita Vineyard, which is situated at the gateway between the cool marine-influenced south and the warm inland area of Paso Robles. Two harvests spaced two weeks apart layered this Sauv Blanc with a foundation of acidity, and riper fruits on the top. The winery's note: "The 2013 Sauvignon Blanc offers refreshing aromas of pear, gooseberry and citrus with a suggestion of jasmine and mineral. A full palate unfolds with rounded flavors of peach, grapefruit and guava. Notes of lime zest add lift to a clean, quenching finish."

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The top wine of the estate and a blend that was the reason Stephan left Pomerol, the 2013 Estate Cuvee checks in as 43% Syrah, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot that comes all from his estate vineyard. It's locked and loaded with black and blue fruit, crushed rock, licorice and ground herbs, and I wrote that it seemed like it was filtered through a rocky riverbed in my notes. Serious, structured and tight, yet fabulously concentrated and pure, it needs 3-4 years of cellaring and will keep for two decades. While the 2013s are small step back fro ...Read More »
From the winery: "The Endpost label, made by Adelaida Cellars, showcases local Paso Robles’ vineyards in a wine style the reflects regional character of our mountainous terrain, warm to cool marine influence, and the unique geology of the soils, complexed with million year old ocean sediment. This year’s “model” of End Post Cabernet benefited from the addition of over 20% Viking fruit, Adelaida’s much awarded Estate Vineyard. 2012 was a welcome return to a warm, sometimes hot summer, following 2 years of cool temperatures. From the winemaker: "Mountain Zinfandel is an aggressively fruity, dark, rich wine. Jammy aromas of raspberry and plum are balanced by floral lavender and violet. A lush, round mouth of plum and cherry flavors lead to a finish that is long and satisfying. This wine is bold enough to accompany spicy fare brilliantly - try it with spicy sausage like Andouille or Opolo's own Cevap Cici!"
Jeff Runquist helped to introduce Syrah to the program at J. Lohr Winery when he worked there in the early 1990s. "At the time we were unfamiliar with Syrah, and so we spent quite some time exploring the various styles and flavors this grape produced," according to Runquist. Despite appreciating the "terroir-driven character" of Old World Syrah, with its earthy, flinty, and dusty aromas and flavors, he was smitten with deeply flavored old vine Syrah from McClaren Vale and the Barrosa Valley of South Australia, which he attempts to emulate with his Paso R... 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate's entry-level wine that's always based on Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the 2013 Optimus offers lots of graphite, earth and peppery herbs to go with tons of red and black fruit characteristics. A full-bodied, rich and layered red that epitomizes Paso Robles, it has beautiful freshness, a silky texture and a great finish. Drink it anytime over the coming decade. From the winery: "While robustly fruited in its youth, Broadside Cabernet Sauvignon is graced with an underlying framework of subtle tannin and acidity that ensures a bright future in the cellar as well. Black currant and berry compote highlight a brightly wound core of berry fruit and spice. Finishes dry with a sleek vein of minerality."
2008 L'Aventure "Estate Cuvée" Paso Robles Red Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 L'Aventure "Estate Cuvée" Paso Robles Red Blend (94JS, 94RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The finest 2008 I tasted is the 2008 Estate Cuvee, a blend of 50% Syrah, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 14% Petit Verdot. Mocha, fudge, blackberry, graphite, cassis, and smoky barbecue scents jump from the glass of this dense purple-colored 2008. Full-bodied, rich, textured, and layered, this terrific effort is surprisingly soft and accessible. Drink it over the next decade. Consistently brilliant wines are produced by former St.-Emilion native, Stephan Asseo, who is now ensconced in the wine world of Paso Robles. These distinctively styled wines offer the power and exuberance of the fruit grown in this region along with a structured, delineated style (no doubt part of Asseo's French DNA). These are all big wines, with the reds fashioned from innovative blends and displaying significant aging potential. The 2008 red wines are strong efforts, but they do not

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This grape is obscure for California but excels in this bottling, with intriguing aromas of yellow melon, crushed white rocks and an array of citrus, from tangerine peels to kumquats. The palate is a lime shade of green, featuring flavors of lime blossoms, Key lime pie and kaffir lime leaves, but also shows limestone minerality and a hint of passion fruit." (9/2015)
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Complex aromas of stewed cherries, peppercorns and burned toast abound in this wine from the recently named Estrella district. The flavors are well integrated, with mocha, espresso and black cherry most apparent." (2/2015)
94 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Willow Creek Cuvee is striking. Dark red and black plum, leather, cloves, menthol, tobacco and sage are laced together in a juicy, resonant red with plenty of near and medium-term appeal. The 2012 is 70% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah, done with 75% whole clusters that are completely and beautifully integrated, aged mostly in neutral oak with 20% new barrels. This single vineyard Rhone Blend consits of 55% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 12% Syrah, 3% Counoise coming from the Glenrose Vineyard. Established in 1994, Glenrose Vineyard represents some of the oldest plantings of Rhone varietals on the west side of Paso Robles. One of the only terraced vineyards in the area, sitting at an elevation of 1500’-1700’, owner Don Rose bulldozed the hillside into terraces to expose the limestone and stress the vines.
