2016 Talley/K&L Wine Merchants Edna Valley Chardonnay

Just south of San Luis Obispo, along California's Central Coast, sits one of the state's most charming and humble wine-growing AVAs: the Edna Valley, home to dozens of small producers that make wonderful wines among the rolling hills of the region. There's a lot to love about the fresh and affordably-priced expressions coming out of Edna right now, which is exactly why we've forged direct relationships with some of SLO's best family-run estates and begun a partnership program of co-sponsored cuvées. For the third year in a row, we've worked out another K... Read More »

2017 Rabble Wine Co. Paso Robles Rosé

Winery Notes: "These are our single varietal wines; uncorrupted and pure. The Rabble labels are renditions of historical wood block prints from the Nuremberg Chronicle (late 1400’s), textured and tactile, depicting nature’s wrath. Nature is ruthless when it goes ignored. This label illustrates the Siren Mermaid lures in weary pirates with her beauty, but she is not to be taken lightly. This newly released Rosé screams watermelon, young strawberry, orange peel and stony minerality. Flavors of melon rind, hibiscus and salinity dance across the palate while... Read More »

2016 Ancient Peaks Paso Robles Sauvignon Blanc

From the winery: The 2016 vintage comes entirely from Block 41 at Margarita Vineyard, where the vines occupy rocky alluvial soils that vary in density, elevation and exposure. As the block slopes downward from its crown, the soils become thicker, and the temperatures more brisk. These variances shape the fruit and contribute dimension to the final blend. Margarita Vineyard stands alone as the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles region, nestled into the rugged Santa Lucia Mountain range just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean in the new Santa Margarita ... 2016 Daou Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon

91-92 points Vinous: "Bright violet color. Ripe dark berry and floral aromas pick up subtle tobacco and pungent floral and herb nuances as the wine stretches out. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that put on weight on the back half. Youthfully tannic on the sharply focused, persistent finish, which features lingering suggestions of candied rose and mocha. (JR)" (11/2017) 91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Just bottled, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is another outstanding wine. Black currants, licorice, charcoal and lead pencil notes all flow to a full ...Read More »

2014 Justin "Isosceles" Paso Robles Bordeaux Blend

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This flagship bottling is still a whopper of a wine. This vintage, a blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 12% Merlot, offers barely ripe black cherry, green peppercorn and charred fennel on the nose. The palate is loaded with both savory and ripe flavors, from roasted black plums and charred beef to oregano and dill. Very complex and chalky in texture. (MK)" (4/2018) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Shows a measure of finesse and restraint given the size, which is big and expressive, offering notes of plum, blackberry, baking spices and cedary oak. 2015 Claiborne & Churchill "Classic-Estate" Edna Valley Pinot Noir

Connoisseurs Guide: "Starting with an aromatic note of strawberry-like freshness and then gradually filling out with elements of cherries, minerals, toast and a wispy touch of dried flowers combining for a very positive Pinot Noir presentation, this nicely composed effort is at once rich and fairly pert on the palate with continuous flavors that very much follow the lead of the nose. It stiffens and cramps a bit in the late going, but its indiscretions can be wholly blamed on its youth, and it fully deserves to be cellared until it reaches its fifth birthday. *One Star* ...Read More »

2016 Booker "My Favorite Neighbor" Paso Robles Red Blend

95-97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Still in barrel, the Cabernet Sauvignon dominated 2016 My Favorite Neighbor offers smokin' notes of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, licorice, smoke tobacco, and hints of violets. With full-bodied are still fresh, chalky, moderately tannic, elegant and lengthy red. One of the leaders of the Paso wine scene is undoubtedly Eric Jensen's Booker Vineyard (I've affectionately called this group the motley crew before). Jensen and his wife Lisa purchased these 72 acres in 2001, with their wines released in 2005. Since then, the wines have evolved from ube ...Read More »

Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon was brought up in a mix of French and American oak and is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 3% of Petite Sirah and Malbec, and 1% Petite Verdot. It sports a ruby color as well as notes of currants, spice-box and cedar, medium-bodied richness, polished tannin and solid balance/elegance. Drink it over the coming 3-5 years. 2015 Austin Hope Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Vintner Austin Hope, whose family is intertwined in the rise of Paso Robles, spent years working to release a wine of this caliber. Dark and thick in the glass, aromas of black currant and blueberry meet with roasted coffee, chocolate syrup and baked plum on the wondrous nose. The palate is soft and extremely expressive, with blueberry, black pepper, firm midpalate tannins and a finish that’s redolent of cappuccino candies. 2016 Tablas Creek "Côtes de Tablas Blanc" Paso Robles White Rhône Blend

92 points Vinous: "Bright green-hued yellow. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh pear, nectarine, honey and smoky minerals. Densely packed and chewy in texture, showing impressive energy thanks to a spine of juicy acidity that adds lift to ripe orchard and pit fruit flavors. Finishes sappy, focused and impressively long, showing a persistent, refreshingly bitter pear skin note and resonating minerality. (JR)" (11/2017) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This blend of 43% Viognier, 40% Grenache Blanc, 14% Marsanne and 3% Roussanne shows a fascinating mineral tone, offering a grippy and yet still expressive ...Read More »

2015 Ancient Peaks "Renegade - Santa Margarita Ranch" Paso Robles Red Blend

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The price-to-flavor ratio on this bottling is astounding, as this blend of 55% Syrah, 27% Zinfandel, 13% Petite Sirah and 5% Petite Verdot offers all that Paso power at half the price. Intense black currant, blackberry pie, beef jerky and caramel aromas lead onto a palate full of chalky tannins and balanced acidity. 2015 Adelaida "Anna's Vineyard" Adelaida District Viognier

91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Nicely defined with the distinct tropical fruit and flowers of Viognier plainly evident right from the first, this sizeable, deeply drawn working is at once as lively as it is so very rich. It is full and slightly fleshy with a neatly fit compliment of freshening acidity and a very long finish that exhibits great fruity life. It does a remarkable job at hiding its claimed 15.8% alcohol, and, as well-filled and delicious as it is now, it is balanced to last and does not demand hasty drinking." (4/2017)

Brought up in neutral oak, this medium to full-bodied, concentrated 2013 has tons of spice, bloody meats, stem and mulled dark fruit-like aromas and flavors, as well as a structured, tannic finish. Fleshy and youthfully bitter, offering deep cassis and dark cherry flavors that are framed by lightly chewy tannins and gain sweetness with air. The spicy notes echo on the sappy, very long finish. 2015 Ridge Vineyards "Benito Dusi Ranch" Paso Robles Zinfandel

93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Precise Zinfandel fruit sits amidst an attractive bit of vanillin oak in the deep and well-defined aromas of this immediately inviting Zin, and the wonderfully pure berrylike qualities that mark its start are at center stage all the way to the end. Along the way, the wine teases with subtle briar and graphite complexities, and, if never in the camp of powerhouse versions, it exhibits more than enough stamina and staying power. 2015 Booker "Oublie" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Oublie checks in as a Mourvèdre heavy blend of 38% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 23% Syrah and 9% Counoise. Its deep ruby, yet translucent color is followed by an exotic bouquet of spiced plums, white pepper, menthol and pepper meat. The Mourvèdre really shines here, and it’s full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with savory tannin and powerful, yet light texture. This wine shows the more forward, supple style of the vintage, yet will have a broad drink window given its overall balance." Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (97RP, 94VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 1,580 cases of the 2012 James Berry Vineyard and it reminds me of the 2009 Janasse Chaupin (which is one of Justin’s favorite wines). Incorporating more Mourvedre than normal, it’s made from 43% Grenache, 29% Mourvedre, 18% Syrah and 10% Counoise that’s aged in a combination of concrete and barrel. Rock star stuff, with fabulous black raspberry, cassis, spring flowers and charred meat aromas and flavors, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness and depth, yet stays lively, incredibly pure and elegant, with lots of fine tannin emerging on the finish.
