2008 Mount Eden "Reserve" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

96 points Vinous: "The 2008 Chardonnay Reserve is in a gorgeous spot as it is just beginning to show the first signs of aromatic and flavor development. Hazelnut, honey, tropical fruit and butter open up in a Chardonnay endowed with lovely focus and delineation throughout. Smoke, slate and green orchard fruit add brightness on the close. The 2008 Reserve is a beautifully balanced, complete wine from Mount Eden. It also has enough freshness to drink well for another decade, perhaps longer. What a gorgeous wine the 2008 is turning out to be." (7/2015) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Chardonnay Reser ...Read More »

This intense wine displays great fruit, some structure, and a beautifully seamless texture. It is more evolved and open than the 2007 was at the same time, and just slightly less profound. 2008 Mount Eden Estate Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(includes 16% merlot and 2% petit verdot; aged in a 50/50 blend of French and American oak): Opaque ruby. Fragrant dark berry and cherry scents are deepened by notes of cured tobacco, vanilla, licorice and dark chocolate, with a smoky mineral nuance adding vibrancy. Sappy, penetrating blackcurrant and bitter cherry flavors are sweetened by notes of vanilla, mocha and candied flowers. 2008 Clos du Val Stag's Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "CELLAR SELECTION Made in the classic Clos du Val style, this Cabernet is less ripe, drier and more acidic than many of its Napa Valley neighbors. It’s also very tannic. Currently, it’s an aloof, austere wine, but it has a deep core of blackberries. This wants at least eight years in a proper cellar, and should age well for another decade beyond that." (9/2012) Connoisseurs Guide: "Very much in keeping with Clos du Val's typically underplayed style, this nervy young middleweight eschews high ripeness and keys instead on subtle, cherry-like fruit. It is helped along by pleasant ...Read More »

Pierre Seillan believes the Chalk Hill fruit provides a truffle-like character and the Alexander Valley gives minerality, structure, tannin and intensity. It wasn’t the easiest vintage, as 2007 was, but meticulous winemaking did the job, resulting in this amazingly rich, impressively ripe wine that’s drinkable now and will develop for many years. 2008 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

2008 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2008 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (97RP, 95JS, 95ST, 95W&S, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Monte Bello is striking. It is a decidedly muscular Monte Bello endowed with layers of dark fruit. Tobacco, mint, asphalt and crushed rocks develop in the glass, adding tons of complexity and finesse. A long, saline finish rounds things out beautifully. In 2008 the cold growing season stretched into October and the wine definitely has the feel of a cool vintage. The spring frost and the second year of drought conditions lowered yields significantly. Yields were just 1.25 tons per acre on average, but some of the older vineyards came in at less than 1 ton per acre. The balance of fruit, tannin and structure is simply extraordinary, but the wine needs time, most likely lots of it. In 2008 the blend is 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038. 97+ points. (AG)" (08/2011)

Tangy, finely etched red fruit flavors are given a firm edge by bitter cherry pit and pick up an exotic candied floral quality with air. Impressively precise and light on its feet, but at the same time very concentrated. A deeper note of blackberry arrives on the long, sappy, focused finish. Of the 2008 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Utterly perfect, the 2008 Chardonnay Marcassin Estate is a dead-ringer for the 2007, but slightly richer and longer, as hard as that may be to believe. This extraordinary effort is unquestionably the 'Chardonnay of the Vintage.' In fact, it may be the 'Chardonnay of the Decade.' Wine Enthusiast: "This is an absolutely beautiful wine to drink now, but the richness comes at the price of considerable alcohol. The color is dark and impenetrable, the aromas huge in Cabernet-inspired blackberries and black currants, with a touch of something herbal and also a stony minerality. There’s also a fascinating peatiness, like an Islay Scotch. It really opens up in the glass, becoming ever more complex. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "B 20" Syrah (95RP, 94JS, 94ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Syrah B-20 is a cool, inward wine graced with layers of beautifully delineated, chiseled fruit. This is a distinctly mineral, precise style relative to the more outgoing 2009, but both are striking. Floral notes add lift as the finish turns explosive with a burst of dark fruit, tar, licorice and crushed rocks. This is one of the more understated wines readers are likely to come across from Sine Qua Non. It is gorgeous when given the time to open up. The B-20 is predominantly Syrah, with 6% Grenache and 2% Viognier. About half of the Grenache was fermented with whole clusters and the wine was aged in French oak (60% new) for 26 months. 2008 Hartford Court "Fog Dance" Green Valley Pinot Noir

89 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red. Ripe aromas of spicy dark berries, cherry liqueur and licorice. Supple, sweet and pretty powerful, with gentle minerality giving the bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors lift and precision. Finishes long, chewy and gripping. I'd give this a couple years to loosen up." (6/2010)

2008 Kosta Browne "Kanzler Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

94 points Connoisseurs Guide: "This stunning wine reaffirms our belief that Kosta Browne manages to capture as much pure and precise Pinot Noir fruit as any producer we know, and it does so while showing a great deal of polish. It is ripe but never overly so, and it is structured without being stiff. Its keen balance and slightly velvety feel are the signature traits of thoughtfully made Pinot, and its wonderful sense of depth earns it a place with the very best of the 2008 class. (Two puffs)" (10/2010) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Full-bodied, complex and focused, with aromas of cola, sassafras, ripe plum and wild ...Read More »

2008 Blackbird "Illustration" Napa Valley Red Wine

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Lush. smooth and complex, this Merlot-based blend seems capable of a little development in the cellar. It’s pretty tannic, although the cherry fruit is sweet and bright. Try holding for a year or two, but if you pop the cork now, give the wine a few hours of decanting." (12/2011) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Illustration, which tends to be mostly Merlot blended with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, possesses a dark ruby/purple color as well as big, sweet aromas of mocha, coffee bean, black cherries and spice box. Fleshy and medium to full-bodied, it has ...Read More »

2008 Kosta Browne "Amber Ridge" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

95 points Wine Spectator: "Well-oaked, but deftly balanced, with an entry of cedar, hazelnut and toast, followed by a burst of ripe plum, blueberry and raspberry, with hints of loamy earth and tea. Full-bodied, rich and extracted, this finishes with a long, full-bodied finish. Drink now through 2016. 600 cases made." (8/2010) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid ruby. An intensely floral bouquet displays wilted rose, magnolia, black raspberry and incense. Supple and broad on entry, turning more tangy and energetic in the middle and offering lively red and dark berry flavors and an exotic candied floral quality. T ...Read More »

2008 Rivers-Marie "Summa Old Vines" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Red fruits, licorice and spicy oak lifted by orange zest, minerals, mint and a whiff of rhubarb. Densely packed and plump, with a breadth of texture that belies its modest alcohol level. Boasts excellent red berry energy and sap; there's a crushed fruit quality here that reminded me of Chambolle. The long, rising finish is sweet but quite firm, with plenty of fruit tannins to support the 100% new oak treatment. This fascinating and satisfying wine made the Occidental Vineyard wine seem soft by comparison. The vines are planted at 8 by 12 feet ...Read More »

2008 Kosta Browne "Garys' Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

94 points Wine Spectator: "Pure, ripe, intense and vibrant, with vivid blackberry and spice notes. Shows lively acidity, too. Kosta Browne non-blind vertical (March 2011). Drink now through 2020. 422 cases made. (Web-2012)" 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby. Complex nose blends musky black raspberry, smoky minerality, mocha, rose and wild herbs. Sweet and expansive in the mouth, with enticing floral lift to the dark berry compote and spice flavors. This very young wine conveys a strong impression of ripe fruit and really stains the palate on the long, juicy finish." (5/2010)

2008 Hundred Acre "Kayli Morgan" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More European in style than some of its siblings, the 2008 exhibits good acidity, more noticeable tannin (but it is extremely young), and plenty of crushed rock, espresso roast and licorice characteristics intermixed with a volcanic minerality. Full-bodied, ripe and opulent, with a closed, formidable personality, it should be at its apogee between 2018 and 2035. 96+ (RP)" (6/2012) 96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full red-ruby. Dark cherry, currant, mocha and minerals on the nose. Lush on entry, then creamy and deep in the middle but with a light touch; at once less open-knit and more v ...Read More »

2008 Rivers-Marie "Occidental Ridge Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red-ruby. Musky, smoky aromas of ripe strawberry and spices, lifted by a note of orange zest. In a warmer style but with firm acidity giving lift and perfume to the flavors of dark raspberry, violet and licorice. Finishes quite juicy. Brown describes this as a low-pH wine from a warm site. This was the first pinot vineyard he harvested in 2008, picking in mid-September at 14.3% potential alcohol." (6/2010)

2008 Saxum "Booker Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Saxum "Booker Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (98RP, 96WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Booker Vineyard (92% Syrah and 8% Mourvedre, which had also been bottled immediately before my visit) has an opaque purple color and a wonderfully sweet nose of black cherry, black currant, licorice, incense, and some Asian spices. The wine has seamless lushness, a voluptuous texture, stunning purity, and a very long, 40-second-plus finish. Booker is another top site that I believe was planted with Justin Smith’s help. It is a 40-acre vineyard sitting on similar limestone soils. This incredible wine would probably benefit from a couple of years of cellaring, as the structure is more present, no doubt due to the high level of Syrah in the wine. It should evolve for 10-15 more years. (RP)" (08/2010)
