92 points Rhone Report: "The 2008 Martinelli Syrah Hop Camp Vineyard "Gravel Lens" (Grave lens refers to the rare soil characteristic of alluvial soil layers interleaved with layers of gravel) is a big, beautifully fruited Syrah that possess touches of northern Rhone like qualities mainly on the nose. Blackberry, cracked pepper, mineral, and hints of chocolate all emerge, and this fleshes out over the evening and gains floral and violets characteristics, as well as notable complexity and a layered profile. 2008 Cain "Concept" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

Jancis Robinson: "Quite a departure from the fruit-centric Napa norm. Roasted coffee, a tiny bit of herbal character. Savoury and structural. Good restraint within an extrovert idiom. (RH)" (2/2013) Wine Spectator: "Shows a meaty, peppery side of Cabernet, rich and extracted, offering dried dark berry and fresh-turned earth. A solid effort with chewy, leathery tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2020. (JL)" (11/2012) K&L Notes: Cain "Concept" is vinified exactly like their signature bottling, Cain "Five". 2008 Justin "Isosceles Reserve" Paso Robles Bordeaux Blend

94 points James Suckling: "I really like the balance and subtle fruit in this red with currants, spices and light coffee aromas and flavors. Silky textured finish. Hazelnut and fruit on the finish. Harmonious wine. Made from 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Best in 2014." (11/2011) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Far more showy was a barrel sample of the 2008 Isosceles Reserve, composed of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot. Bid on this bottle of 2008 Merryvale "Profile" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (97WE, 96RP, 94WS, 91ST). Wine Enthusiast: "A tremendous wine that shows how Merryvale is absolutely at the top of its game. Impeccable in structure, with refined tannins that are soft and firm at the same time, and a fine cut of acidity. Entirely dry, the Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend is awesome in blackberry, cherry, cassis and oak flavors, with complexities of anise, soy sauce, grilled meats and minerals. Beyond the particulars, it just feels dramatic and rich in the mouth. A great wine that should develop in the bottle over the next decade." (11/2011)

2008 Merry Edwards "Meredith Estate" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

95 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Three Stars* As deep, as rich and as well appointed in persistent fruit as any of its stablemates, the Pinot Noir from Ms. Edwards's home property is perhaps the best bred of them all. 2008 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain takes things to another level, as hard as it may seem to believe. This was another difficult vintage for Dunn. Yields were down a full 50%. In exchange, nature rewarded Dunn with the fruit to make an epic wine that could very well turn out to be a modern-day legend. The 2008 is a huge, towering wine packed with dark fruit, licorice, tar, asphalt and licorice. Layers of perfume are woven throughout this majestic effort. 2008 Quintessa Rutherford Bordeaux Blend

93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Two Stars!* There is no big burst of fruit or towering wave of sweet oak to make this one an immediate turner of heads, but there is a real sense of sophistication at work here with plenty of depth and layering right from the start. The wine is at once both slightly supple and fairly firm in feel, and its vitality is hard to ignore. It teases with touches of toast and dusty earth spice while hewing to a very long line of optimally ripened currants, and it has all the right pieces in all the right places to grow famously for ten years or more." 94 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, rich and extracted with deep currant and berry fruit, with mineral, sage and tea. (Web Only—2012)" 93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "As generously filled and as carefully balanced as any Pinot in this month's review, Kosta Browne's Russian River Valley bottling is absolutely brimming with succulent cherries overlain by lots of creamy oak. What it may lack in complexity, it more than makes up for in its ebullient young fruit, and we would not rule out an increased sense of the former after it has had a couple of years in which to develop. 2008 Casa Piena Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Slightly better (which is no surprise, since it appears to be an impressive work in progress) is the 2008 Casa Piena. Production in this vintage is slightly higher as well. This wine displays similar character, with more unsmoked cigar tobacco intermixed with creme de cassis, camphor, graphite, and some subtle earthiness. 2008 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Gregariously fruity with highlights of raspberries and cranberries intermixed with its main themes of fresh, juicy cherries, this one may arguably be criticized for being just a touch on the simple, side but no one will find it lacking in depth. It is so young that it cannot only get better with time in bottle, but we admit that its no-holds-barred richness and accessible style makes near-term resistance next to impossible." (6/2010) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red. Vibrant aromas of raspberry, spicecake and white pepper, with building florality. Sappy and sweet, with palate-car ...Read More »

2008 Siduri Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

90 points Robert Parker: "They have produced a delicious 2008 Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands, with the bulk of the grapes coming from the Rosella’s Vineyard and the rest from the Pisoni and Garys’ Vineyards. Round and seductive, with loads of plum, raspberry, and black cherry fruit, medium to full body, and silky tannins, this is a pleasure-filled, luscious style of Pinot to drink over the next 3-4 years." 2008 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay (100RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Utterly perfect, the 2008 Chardonnay Marcassin Estate is a dead-ringer for the 2007, but slightly richer and longer, as hard as that may be to believe. This extraordinary effort is unquestionably the 'Chardonnay of the Vintage.' In fact, it may be the 'Chardonnay of the Decade.' Brioche, nectarine, citrus and orange blossom notes intermixed with a liqueur of rocks, great acid, phenomenal concentration and staggering length result in a sublime Chardonnay that should drink well for 15+ years. 2008 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml) New!
2008 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml)

A combination of late harvest Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from the foggy town of Coombsville, east of Napa, Dolce is Napa's ultimate Sauternes-style dessert wine, with its earthy, botrytis underpinning and joyful acidity. Wonderfully food-friendly, this will pair well with foie gras, poached figs, cheeses, chocolate or creme brulee. Or cellar and watch the wine evolve. Praise from Wine Review Online: "A rare example of a domestically-produced Sauternes style wine. At once delicate and decadent, this beautifully balanced dessert wine will make a great f... 2008 Williams-Selyem Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Vibrant aromas of raspberry, licorice, rose and sandalwood. Juicy and intense, with very good sweetness and fleshiness to the red berry and spicecake flavors. The silky tannins arrive late. I like the high-pitched, spicy fruit character of the sappy finish." (6/2010) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Shows tart cranberry crispness in addition to richer cherry and raspberry fruit, but it’s a fairly aloof wine now, with competing parts. Even though this isn’t a single-vineyard Pinot, it needs time in the cellar, to let everything mellow. Give it 4-5 years." (8/2010) Connoisseurs Guide: "A full measure ...Read More »

2008 Anthill Farms Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Pomegranate, redcurrant and rhubarb on the nose, with building smokiness. Smells very wound up and tastes like it as well, offering zesty red fruit, herb and mineral flavors and a touch of candied rose. Becomes richer with air and picks up a medicinal, peaty quality that reminded me of an Islay whisky. Finishes with good punch, lingering sweetness and strong iodine and botanical herb qualities. I have to wonder if this wine's smokiness is a result of the brushfires of the summer of 2008." (5/2010) K&L Notes: The wine's nose opens with spicy aromas of carn... Read More »

2008 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 James Berry Vineyard (52% Grenache, 31% Mourvedre, and 17% Syrah) saw some of its Grenache aged in the concrete eggs that are now catching on among some of the top producers on California’s Central Coast. With strong minerality from the limestone soil, this exuberant, fleshy, full-bodied wine is already drinking well. (I believe it was actually bottled just a day or two before my visit, which makes its performance that much more remarkable.) Dense purple, with sweet notes of barbecue smoke and meats as well as roasted herbs, extravagant black ch ...Read More »

Of the 2012 Saxum "Heart Stone Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2012 Heart Stone Vineyard is 43% Syrah, 41% Grenache and 16% Mourvedre that was aged mostly in concrete (the ’11 was aged 100% in concrete) yet also saw some new and neutral puncheons. Fermented with 40% whole clusters, it’s a big, burly effort that has beautiful creme de cassis, black raspberry, crushed violets, vanilla bean and exotic flower-like qualities all emerging from the glass. 2008 DuMol "Isobel" Russian River Valley Chardonnay

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Chardonnay Isobel (all from the Charles Heintz Vineyard’s 27-year old vines) exhibits a light straw/green hue as well as a stunning nose of caramelized lemons, orange blossoms, nectarines and hints of tropical fruits and honeysuckle. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and powerful, it should drink well for 7-8 years. (RP)" (2/2011) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Greenish gold. Higher in pitch than the Clare, displaying intense, mineral-dominated citrus and spice aromas, along with notes of licorice and white pepper. Lively acidity adds lift to fresh orange and pear flavors, with ...Read More »

2008 Scarecrow "M. Étain" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The inaugural vintage of Scarecrow's "second label" wine, M. Étain comes from a less rigorous selection of fruit hand-picked from the J.J. Cohn Estate in Rutherford. The wine is cleverly named after the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz, "Étain" being French for "Tin." Pretty cherry, raspberry and plum fruit notes on the nose and palate are deftly interwoven with cookie spices, cigar box, coffee, licorice, chocolate and vanilla bean. Silky tannins make this approachable now.

2008 Kosta Browne "Keefer Ranch" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

95 points Wine Spectator: "One of two I correctly identified. This is notably spicy, with nutmeg, floral and berry scents. Rich and full-bodied, delivering layers of dark berries and a dash of mocha. (Web Only-2012)" (8/2010) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, strawberry liqueur, dried flowers and Asian spices. Silky, bright and precise, but with good depth and power to its red berry and cherry flavors. Really expand with air, finishing with sweet tannins, tangy minerality and impressive length. If your impression of the K-B wines ossified around the 2004 vintage, you sho ...Read More »
