2009 Carlisle "Three Birds" Sonoma County Rhone Blend

Robert Parker writes: "One of California's most compelling success stories is Mike Officer's conversion from full-time software developer to full-time guardian of old vine Zinfandel vineyards and world-class producer of artisinal wines. Carlisle is a hugely successful winery, not only because of outstanding customer service, but because of the simple fact that it delivers great wines at extremely fair prices."

2009 Continuum Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Vinous: "The 2009 Continuum is still in that part of its life where fruit and texture dominate, while the more aromatic qualities are yet to fully emerge. A rich, explosive wine, the 2009 can be enjoyed young for its exuberance, but the best is yet to come. Personally, I would wait a bit on the 2009. The finish is rich, layered and sumptuous. (AG) 95+" (11/2013) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Sleek and understated, making its mark with firm, dense, tightly wound espresso, dried berry, crushed rock and black licorice flavors, with a finish that emphasizes the loamy earthiness. 2008-2009 Maybach Family "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon Vertical
Bid on this 2-bottle 2008-2009 Maybach Family "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon Vertical, including 1-bottle of 2008 Maybach Family "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 95WE, 94ST, 94WS) and 1-bottle of 2009 Maybach "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (95RP, 94ST). Of the 2008 Maybach Family "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2008 Materium comes from a single block called the Weitz Vineyard at a 1,000-foot elevation on the eastern hillsides of Oakville. It would be hard to improve upon the virtually perfect 2007, but the 2008 is not far behind. Notes of graphite, blueberry, charcoal, spring flowers, and some background oak are followed by a dense, purple-colored wine with full-bodied power, great elegance, precision, and purity. This is again an extraordinary effort from Maybach. It should drink well for 20-25 years. (RP)" (12/2010)

2009 Sine Qua Non "This Is Not An Exit" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An extended barrel-aged release, the 2009 Syrah This Is Not An Exit is 100% from the Santa Rita Hills Eleven Confessions Vineyard and checks in as a blend of 80% Syrah, 12% Grenache, 7% Roussanne and 1% Viognier that saw 41.5 months in 65% new French oak. Slightly exotic, with notions of kirsch, flower oil, smoked meats, licorice and graphite, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness and depth, loads of fruit and a blockbuster finish. More approachable than the 2010 extended barrel age Syrah, this beauty will still have 15+ years of longevity. Drink ...Read More »

2009 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Vinous: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard is a relatively immediate Marthas, with a real feeling of mid-palate density and weight that is almost out of character for this estate. Sweet, silky tannins give the 2009 much of its succulence. Scents of mint, pine and eucalyptus wrap around the juicy, inviting finish. (AG)" (10/2015) Wine Spectator: "Shows notable herb, mint and bay leaf overtones, with a tight, dense core of dried currant and berry that is slow to open. This is very shut down for now, and should age for a long time. The flavors build on the finish. Drink no ...Read More »

2009 Lewis Cellars "Barcaglia Lane" Russian River Valley Chardonnay

91 points Wine Spectator: "Touches of creamy, toasty oak fold in with a range of ripe, intense apple, pear, honeysuckle, fig and honeydew melon flavors in this full-bodied white, which is still a bit pithy yet gains subtle flavor nuances on the finish. Drink now through 2016." (07/11) Lewis' Barcaglia Lane bottling receives four additional months of barrel aging on the lees resulting in broad texture and fine detail. 2009 Larkmead Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Larkmead Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon bursts from the glass with a rush of black fruit, smoke, licorice, graphite and tar. All the elements flow together gracefully towards the big, fleshy finish. There is plenty of tannin to support the fruit, suggesting the wine will drink well for a number of years. I especially like the way the wine keeps growing in the glass. This is one of the firmer, more vibrant 2009s readers will come across. Simply put, it is fabulous. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. Larkmead is one of the historic estates in Napa Valley, with a rich lineage that goes back to 1895. The wines I tasted with proprietor Cam Baker and winemaker Andy Smith were all exceptional. Most importantly, though, these are highly individualistic wines loaded with true personality and class. Pricing remains exceedingly fair by Napa Valley standards, considering the quality of what is

Aromas and flavors of plum, milk chocolate and flowers show good intensity and life. Sweet and fine-grained in the mouth, offering lovely balance; not hugely complex or deep but offers attractive floral character and finishes with refined tannins. 2009 Waits-Mast "Deer Meadows Vineyard" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

94 points Wine & Spirits: "Brian Mast and Jennifer Waits were wine drinkers and media/ communications professionals when they attended the technical conference at the Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Festival in 2000. By 2005, they had made their first wine and they began producing micro-lots of pinot noir under the Waits-Mast label in 2007 (the winery remains a part-time gig). White stone fruits, minerals, citrus and flowers come together in this vibrant, understated Chardonnay. The Rosella’s captures plenty of the house style but in a distinctly cool climate voice. Aeration brings up an intense spicy quality that carries through a long, smoky, nicely focused finish. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Monte Bello ,72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot is simply magnificent. Layers of dark red fruit, flowers, spices and graphite are all woven together in this utterly impeccable wine. The 2009 is an especially huge, intense Monte Bello, yet a sexy, silky core of fruit lies within its imposing frame. Everything comes together in this glorious, radiant wine. 2009 Sine Qua Non "Upside Down" Grenache
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Sine Qua Non "Upside Down" Grenache (96RP, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Grenache Upside Down emerges from the glass with layers of dark red fruit as it sweeps across the palate. There is an inner sweetness and sheer depth that make the 2009 compelling. The 11% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre make themselves heard clearly in adding layers of depth and pure richness. Tar, anise and graphite meld together on the rich, dramatic finish. This is a striking wine endowed with tons of pure textural dimension. The 2009 was sourced from Eleven Confessions (72%), Cumulus (22%) and Bien Nacido (6%) vineyards. (AG)" (04/2012)
