2009 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Vinous: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard is a relatively immediate Marthas, with a real feeling of mid-palate density and weight that is almost out of character for this estate. Sweet, silky tannins give the 2009 much of its succulence. Scents of mint, pine and eucalyptus wrap around the juicy, inviting finish. (AG)" (10/2015) Wine Spectator: "Shows notable herb, mint and bay leaf overtones, with a tight, dense core of dried currant and berry that is slow to open. This is very shut down for now, and should age for a long time. The flavors build on the finish. Drink no ...Read More »

2009 Scarecrow "M. Étain" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Wine Spectator: "Amazingly complex, firm, dense and concentrated, with a vivid, lively, structured mix of dried currant, mineral, cedar, sage and tobacco notes. Fills out nicely on the finish and holds its focus, ending with a satisfyingly chewy, rich bundle of dark berry fruit. Best from 2013 through 2024." (4/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon M. Etain is dark, rich, sumptuous and highly expressive. A totally voluptuous wine, the 2009 flows across the palate with layers of dark fruit. Stylistically, the M. Etain is very close to the Scarecrow Cabernet in this vintage, alt ...Read More »

2009 Mount Eden "Reserve" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

95 points Vinous: "Mount Eden's 2009 Chardonnay Reserve boasts considerable depth and resonance. Graphite, smoke and butter add shades of dimension to the tropical, honeyed flavors. Even with its considerable oiliness and viscosity, the 2009 retains a gorgeous sense of energy. My impression is that the 2009 is likely to age at a slightly faster pace than some of the surrounding vintages, but in exchange it will drink well with minimal cellaring. Once again, the overall balance here is beyond impeccable. (AG)" (6/2015)

2009 Palmina Santa Barbara County Nebbiolo

Poised and focused on the palate, with energetic red fruit flavors joined by musky licorice and rose pastille. Silky tannins are smoothly folded into the spicy, energetic fruit, adding firmness to the finish." (11/2013) 90 points Vinous: "A rich, ample wine, the 2009 Nebbiolo blossoms on the palate with striking depth. 2009 Philip Togni "Estate" Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is stunningly beautiful and seductive in its red fruit, mint and tobacco. This is a surprisingly accessible vintage for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Today it looks like an excellent choice for readers who want to explore the wines of this iconic producer--as long as it doesn't close down in bottle. Togni's 2009 is notable for its exceptional elegance, finesse and pedigree. There is plenty of Spring Mountain structure, but today the 2009 is disarmingly sexy and radiant for such a young wine. Drink now through 2018. (JL)" (8/2011) 93 points James Suckling: "Yummy. So delicious and beautiful with aromas of plums and cherries with flowers and dark chocolate. (JL)" (9/2011) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(made from yields of under two tons per acre, according to Dehlinger): Vivid red. 2009 Robert Mondavi Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Silky dark red fruit, spices, cinnamon, cloves are present in the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags’ Leap District. Crushed flowers and sweet red berries follow as the wine turns increasingly more floral and candied in the glass. As the same time, there is plenty of minerality and focus. If the 2009 has a flaw, it is that the super-ripe fruit blurs much of the Stags’ Leap character. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (AG)" (12/2012)

This is a marvelous showing. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. This is a thrilling set of wines from the gregarious Betty O’Shaughnessy and her winemaker Sean Capiaux. The 2009 Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown Vineyard, made from some whole clusters, is one of the deeper, more saturated ruby-colored Pinot Noirs from Sojourn. It comes from the low-yielding, 40-year-old Stuhlmuller Vineyard in the Alexander Valley, and was fermented in a large wooden cask before aging in 25% new French oak barrels for six months. The wine is wondefully layered, with tart pomelo and tropical fruit aromas and flavors complemented by rich leesiness and a hint of toast. This has great texture, viscosity, and forward fruit without being one-dimensional. A very fine first effort, indeed!

2009 Kanzler Vineyards Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

94 points Wine Spectator: "A firm, assertive style, showing well-structured wild berry and blackberry fruit, with touches of mineral and spice. Very tight and closed, yet dense and concentrated, ending with a mix of mineral and ripe berry. Drink now through 2019." K&L Notes: This ruby-hued Pinot Noir is is already alluring, with rose petal, blueberry, spice and earth notes on the nose, but on the palate its firmer acidity suggest that it will get even better with air or age. Right now its dominated by blueberry, blackberry and plum fruit with a little orange zest and a smidge of dark chocolate... Read More »

2009 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (Previously 225)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Simply put, the 2009 James Berry Vineyard is one of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted from California, or anywhere for that matter. Bright, floral aromatics lead to expressive red fruit in this impossibly elegant, dazzling wine. A melange of rose petals, mint and licorice follows as the James Berry shows off its breathtaking clarity and finesse. Fine-grained, chalky tannins frame the exceptional finish. Frankly, I am surprised this is the first wine of the tasting. Where does one go from here? (AG)" (8/2011) 97 points James Suckling: "Beautiful aromas of violets and sandal ...Read More »

2009 DuMol "Ryan" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Explosive aromas of black raspberry, boysenberry, potpourri and smoky minerals. Lush, deeply pitched bitter cherry and dark berry preserve flavors are enlivened by zesty minerality and pick up floral and spice notes with air. This alluringly scented, energetic pinot finishes with excellent clarity and clinging sweetness." (5/2012) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Ryan is another very pretty and complete wine. Freshly cut flowers, red berries, spices and licorice are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. Underlying veins of minerality ...Read More »

2009 Saxum "Broken Stones" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Saxum "Broken Stones" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (96RP, 95WS, 94ST, 92JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Broken Stones is sourced from all of the estate’s vineyards, which in this vintage includes Padereweski fruit for the first time, although most of the fruit was sourced from James Berry. Today it comes across as rather tightly wound and implosive, although with air the wine’s potential becomes more evident. Dark cherries, licorice and smoke wrap around the intense finish. Floral notes add the final layers of complexity and nuance. This is another fabulous effort. In 2009 the blend is 60% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre, 12% Petite Sirah and 8% Grenache. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. (AG)" (09/2011)

2009 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Proprietary Blend Harlan Estate is just as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel. Cloves, dark plums, cherries, smoke and graphite add richness and resonance to this powerful, incisive wine. Juicy and exuberant, the 2009 has always had a certain raciness that is impossible to resist. Layers of fruit continue to build to the enveloping, sensual finish. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this hugely delicious wine. (AG)" (12/2012) 97 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby to the rim. Outstanding floral lift to the aromas of cassis, licorice, menthol ...Read More »

2009 DuMol "Estate" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

95 points Connoisseurs Guide: "While we go back and forth in deciding just which of DuMOL's latests is our pick of the bunch, this estate bottling wins a place at the very head of the class. It is as wonderfully pure in fruit as it is impeccably balanced with perfectly ripened fruit running its length. It is so supple and polished in feel as to be almost too easy to taste in its youth, but it is structured and firm beneath its smooth façade, and its length on the palate is stunning. It hints at layering and complexity to come, so again, if its sheer fruity succulence does not draw you ...Read More »

2009 Rhys "Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard tends towards a dark red, almost black expression of wild cherries. It is an intensely coiled, powerful wine in need of a few years of cellaring. The mineral notes speak very clearly in this pointed, beautifully articulated Pinot. With time in the glass the wine’s inner perfume begins to emerge, but the best is years away. The chiseled, pure finish leaves a lasting impression. This is the most finely-knit, complete wine in the Rhys portfolio. (AG)" (8/2012) 93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding* Here the nose is similar to that of the Skyline bu ...Read More »
