2010 World's End "Little Sister - Reserve" Napa Valley Merlot (Elsewhere $40)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Bursting in vibrant red plum and raspberry fruit, this bright, juicy wine is layered in black peppery seasoning and vanilla. Smooth and age-worthy, the finish is lingering and as satisfying as a triple encore with drum solo from your favorite band." (10/2014)91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dark, formidably looking 2010 Merlot Little Sister (85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon) exhibits lots of Chinese black tea, mocha, black cherry, licorice, spice, coffee bean and mulberry aromas. 2010 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Wine Spectator: "Shows a good touch of bottle age and a notably oaky presence, marked by dill, vanilla bean and coconut notes wrapped around a rich, authoritative, full-bodied core of loamy earth, dark berry, licorice and espresso. Drink now through 2028." (4/2015) K&L Notes: The 2010 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. 2010 Amici Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This classic Napa Cabernet (with a splash of Petit Verdot) is elegant, streamlined and absolutely lovely to drink now. It’s dry and balanced in acidity and tannins, and has rich layers of cassis, mocha, plums and toast." (2/2014)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/plum/purple-tinged 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa offers notes of cassis, blueberries, graphite and toasty vanillin. A nicely proportioned, medium to full-bodied, seriously endowed, elegant, restrained wine with admirable purity, it can be drunk now or cellared for 10-15 years. 2010 Alysian "Russian River Selection" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Top Pick!
2010 Alysian "Russian River Selection" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Connoisseurs Guide: "If not a wine for fans of extract and high ripeness, this relatively mild-mannered offering is both balanced and accessible with a good fix on Pinot Noir. It very much follows the Alysian model in that it is lithe and light on its feet, and it tenaciously hangs on to plenty of buoyant, red-cherry fruit even as it takes a turn to last-minute tartness." (10/2014) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Musky red berries, cherry pit and dried flowers on the nose. Taut, sharply focused redcurrant and bitter cherry flavors show modest depth and pick up a peppery quality with air. Close ...Read More »

2010 World's End "Wavelength" Napa Valley Red Wine (Elsewhere $70)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Wavelength Proprietary Red is an intriguing blend of 65% Syrah and 35% Cabernet Franc. Its saturated purple color is followed by aromas of flowers, blueberries, blackberries, forest floor and spice. The wine hits the mouth with medium to full body, glorious fruit, sensational purity, wonderful texture and length, and a finish that lasts 40-45 seconds. 2010 Summerland "Bien Nacido Vineyard" Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir (Previously $28)

Wine Enthusiast: "There’s some age showing on the nose of this wine, with cherry liqueur aromas most prevalent. It’s very tasty once sipped, and still strongly tannic, with dark cherry and black clove." (12/2014) K&L Notes: From Central Coast winery owner Nebil "Bilo" Zarif, who also founded Barnwood Vineyards, Summerland is a small (3,000 cases in the single vineyard collection) Pinot Noir specialist. The famed Bien Nacido Vineyard was planted in 1973, before the modern era of the Dijon clones, to Pommard and Martini.

2010 Matchbook "Tinto Rey" Dunnigan Hills Red Blend

This seriously endowed red spent 26 months in a combination of American, French and Hungarian oak. A beauty, it exhibits notes of new saddle leather, unsmoked cigar tobacco, licorice, black cherries and blackcurrants as well as a medium-bodied, lusciously fruity, sensual, opulent personality. 2010 Robert Sinskey "POV" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

Robert Sinskey's POV is a Bordeaux-style blend from Los Carneros, on the southerly reach of Napa Valley, by the San Pablo portion of the San Francisco Bay--better known for Pinot Noir. For the style that he's going for, Sinskey can make it work: "Each year provides new parameters that are ultimately reflected in the character of the wine. Very dark in color, with hard tannins, it has an immense core of blackberries and cherries. Give it at least 6–8 years, but it could still be rocking in 2022." (8/2013)91 points Decanter: "Concentrated flavors of brambly blackberry and cassis supported by notes of bay leaf, pepper and graphite. Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices, licorice and graphite all burst from the glass as the 2010 shows off its personality. While some of Beaulieu's 2010s are ripe and flashy, the Georges de Latour is wonderfully fresh and alive in the glass, not to mention absolutely classic in feel. Gains richness with air and finishes long and focused, with clinging sweetness, supple tannins and a hint of bitter chocolate. 2010 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Wine & Spirits: "Most of the fruit for this restrained, savory cabernet comes from cuttings Emmett Rixford purportedly sourced from Château Margaux in the 1890s. Martin Ray propagated his own cuttings from that selection to plant in this vineyard's shallow, shale-laced soils at 1,800 feet of elevation in the 1940s and 50s, and later Jeffrey Patterson replanted it in the 1980s with a selection from those vines. Although deep, full-bodied and backward, the sweet fruit and tannin provide a more upfront character than the 2009. It, too, is a 30-50-year wine. The 2010 boasts marvelous depth and richness, all backed up by the structure of the year and the tannin of this Spring Mountain site. Fleshy and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering sappy blueberry and black raspberry flavors and a zesty touch of cracked pepper. Closes on a sweet note, with impressive energy and slow-building tannins. I'd give this one at least another five years of bottle age." Although you won't see much critical acclaim for Cain wines, since this remote, mountain winery stopped sending out for review in the early 2000s, the previously released 2009 Cain Concept caught the attention of critic James Suckling, who gave it 95 points and an enthusiastic review: "A generous, sexy wine with an abundance of subtle red fruits and mushrooms." In basic terms, Cain "Five" is just that: the estate's top blend of Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The exact percentages of each are listed on the label, but that, as winemaker Chris Howell will tell you, does not explain anything. While it may seem like everybody talks a big game about their terroir, a lot of wineries are playing the point-score game, too, with heavily extracted wines from late-harvested grapes--a scene that Cain has quietly excused itself from--although James Suckling found his ... 2010 Cambiata "Rocosa Loma Vineyard" Monterey Tannat

It's a little known fact, but there just happens to be a small Tannat vineyard in the rocky and well drained soils of the Santa Lucia Mountains. The challenge with Tannat is balancing the wine's fruit and its aggressive tannins, and this ruggedly perfect, relatively cool zone helps to achieve just that.
