2011 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2011 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Silver Oak's 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was carefully and selectively harvested over more than a month at the end of the cool 2011 growing season. Blended with 14.5% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Malbec, the varietal composition was determined early in the aging process and the blended lots were then aged in new American oak barrels for two full years. In keeping with Silver Oak's practice of releasing the wine only when it is ready to drink, the bottles were then aged an additional two years before release. From the winery... Read More »

2011 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

92 points Vinous: "The 2011 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) has a bit of a darker toned than the Russian River bottling, and also firmer in its tannin. Plum, black cherry, menthol, tobacco and licorice meld together gracefully as the 2011 opens up in the glass. The combination of fruit and structure is compelling. This is a fabulous appellation-level Pinot, due in part to the vineyard blend, which in 2011 includes 40% fruit from Gap's Crown, along with Terra del Promissio and Walala. Juicy in exotic black fruit, it stands tall, with silky, towering shoulders of herb, cardamom and clove that will coalesce beautifully over time. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Aubert "Ritchie Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay (96RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard is utterly magnificent. I especially like the way the 2011 is at once unbelievably rich, but not at all heavy. Yellow stone fruit, light floral honey, nectarine and almonds inform the rich, oily finish. 2011 Domaine de la Terre Rouge "Tête à Tête" Sierra Foothills Rhone Blend

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a blend of 45% mourvedre, 28% syrah and 27% grenache): Bright medium red. Spicy red fruit aromas are complemented by an iron-like element of smoky meat and lifted by orange peel. Dry, round and aromatic in the mouth, with red berry flavors animated by pepper, licorice and herbs. This fresh, spicy blend finishes with sweet, easygoing tannins and good length. A noteworthy value." (5/2014) Wine Enthusiast: "This is meant to be an approachable blend and it delivers. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Kosta Browne "Gap's Crown Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (94CG, 93VN, 93WS, 92ST). Connoisseurs Guide: " *Two Stars* If tilting a touch more to ripeness than most of its North Coast kin, this bottling does not err to softness, and its big-shouldered style comes with lots of firm muscle. It is a big, well-extracted, very substantial Pinot, to be sure, with abundant flavors of raspberries and sweet cherries, and it carries a strong imprint of rich oak. Its lengthy flavors are underpinned by a firm streak of tannin, and it ends with the kind of finishing grip that predicts a very good future." (10/2013)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Reminding me of a top 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape (the 2010 Raymond Usseglio Cuvee Imperiale to be exact), the 2011 James Berry Vineyard is a blend of 69% Grenache, 13% Mourvedre, 13% Syrah, 2% Counoise, and a splash of Roussanne, that was aged in a combination of concrete (Grenache) and larger oak puncheons. 2011 Enkidu "Humbaba" North Coast Rhône Blend

A blend of 68% Syrah and 30% Petite Syrah with a splash of Alicante. From the producer: "The 2011 Humbabas shows its typical sweet root earthiness as in other vintages, which combine with candied cherries, toast and a little meatiness. While the texture is warm and luxurious, there is a nice backbone grip of tannin to hang the flavors on to a long finish. This Humbaba, like our previous vintages, continues to develop considerable complexity as it ages."

2011 Sine Qua Non "Dark Blossom" Grenache
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Sine Qua Non "Dark Blossom" Grenache (97RP, 97VN, (93-95ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Grenache Dark Blossom is probably the best Grenache-based blend in the vintage. A blend of 75% Grenache, 12.5% Syrah, 11.5% Mourvedre and a splash of Roussanne (fermented with 11% whole clusters), it has a perfumed, complex style, with notions of black raspberry, cassis, dried flowers, white pepper and licorice giving way to a full-bodied, layered and seamless mouthfeel. There’s no shortage of fruit here, and while it’s hard to resist now, it has enough tannin to warrant short-term cellaring. It should knock it out of the park through 2029. (JD)" (08/2014)

Perfumed and energetic in the mouth, with flavors of redcurrant, spices, licorice and flowers. Finishes firmly tannic but not dry, with good verve. This is made from press wine and fruit from recently replanted vines." 2011 Abreu "Las Posadas" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (Previously $400)

About the producer: "Growing up, Napa Valley was David Abreu's playground as well as his classroom. Born into a family of ranchers, he spent the better part of his youth working in Napa's original vineyards. Over time, David's sense of what makes a site stand out—why one vineyard makes great wine and another's is just good—was sharpened beyond the ordinary. Eventually, intuition and experience led him to four exceptional vineyard properties: Madrona Ranch, Cappella, Las Posadas, and Thorevilos. He planned and planted each one. 2011 Kosta Browne Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Two Stars* We have found it not all that uncommon for a Pinot producer's appellation bottlings to equal or even surpass some of its single-vineyard examples, and this very deep and carefully constructed effort gives its pricier partners a good run for their money. It is long on ripe-cherry fruit and accented with bright, raspberry-like notes, and it is perked up by neatly placed acidity from first sip to finish. It should drink well for 10+ years. These organically, dry-farmed vineyards located ten miles from the Pacific Ocean in the Santa Cruz Mountains are managed by two brothers. I was super-impressed by their attitude as well as their statement that “90% of what we do to contribute to our quality is work in the vineyard.” All of these wines are minimally processed with indigenous yeast fermentations, hand racking, and are produced in relatively small quantities, ranging from 95 cases of the Pinot Noir Three Blocks, to nearly 500 cases of the Chardonnay B Block. This attractive, elegant, medium to full-bodied 2011 is more evolved and fruit-forward than the 2009 or the perfect 2010. The 2011 will drink well for 8-12 years. (RP)" (12/2013) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby. Vibrant red berry and blood orange aromas, with sexy potpourri and incense qualities gaining power in the glass. Lively, high-pitched raspberry and bitter cherry flavors stain the palate, with dusty minerals providing spine and cut. The floral not ...Read More »

Not quite as rich or dense as the 2010, or as structured and chewy as the 2009, the evolved, seductive 2011 should provide enormous pleasure over the next 10-12 years. (RP)" (12/2013)

2011 Kistler "Kistler Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Pinot Noir Kistler Vineyard (made primarily from the Calera clone), which sees one-third new oak and is 100% destemmed, possesses lots of raspberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with hints of underbrush and forest floor, and a nice meatiness to its texture. There has been a progressive trend by Kistler’s winemaking team and owners to harvest at slightly lower sugars, back off slightly on the percentage of new oak used, and bottle their wines earlier. All of this is designed to preserve as much fruit and freshness in the wines as possible. ( ...Read More »

2011 Rhys "Family Farm Vineyard" San Mateo County Pinot Noir Back In Stock!
2011 Rhys "Family Farm Vineyard" San Mateo County Pinot Noir

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red. Black raspberry, cherry pit, Asian spices and smoky oak on the nose. Fine-grained and sappy, with strong lift to the flavors of dark raspberry, bitter cherry and blood orange. Finishes long, on a faintly medicinal note, with sweet harmonious tannins and lingering spiciness. (ST)" (5/2013) 91 points Vinous: "The 2011 Pinot Noir Family Farm Vineyard is one of the wilder wines in this range of 2011 Pinots. Game, tar, licorice and dark fruits all take on an intensely mineral personality with distinct volcanic overtones reminiscent of Aglianico and Taurasi. The layered, ...Read More »

2011 Rudius Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

From the winery: "In 2011 our Tierra Roja Vineyard in Oakville and our Panek Vineyard in St Helena combined to produce an expansive yet sophisticated blend that is unmistakably Rudius. This is the only Cabernet we produced from the 2011 vintage, and is a best barrel selection from our two favorite vineyards. Everything you loved about our 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet can be found in this wine with a few extra surprises. The aromatics have a similar character to our Cabernets from earlier years with dark blackberry and warm baking spice notes, but you will a... Read More »

2011 Robert Biale "Monte Rosso" Sonoma Valley Zinfandel (Previously $60)

The Monte Rosso Vineyard sits on privileged ground at the fog line overlooking the Sonoma Valley. In ages past, it was under the stewardship of Louis M. Martini that it became one of the most revered vineyard sources in California. The oldest Zinfandel vines in Monte Rosso date back to the late 1800s, and Robert Biale has bottled a very limited production from these vines since 1995. A wine of structure and distinction, to label this bottling "old vines" would simply be inadequate. From the winery: "In 2011 Monte Rosso brings its A-game. The cool and mod... Read More »

2011 Robert Mondavi "To Kalon Vineyard Reserve" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Vinous: "Black cherries, plums, mocha, leather and cloves are some of the many notes that meld together in the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve To Kalon Vineyard. A dark, pliant, brooding wine, the 2011 has an element of gravitas that is impossible to miss. All the elements meld together nicely in the glass. Hints of black cherry jam and spices show an element of racy sweetness from the late harvest. This is the first vintage in which the Reserve is 100% To Kalon. (AG)" (12/2014) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editor's Choice* This is the winery’s first vintage of prominently labeling its reserv ...Read More »

2011 Morlet "Coeur de Vallée" Napa Valley Red Wine

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better is the 2011 Coeur de Vallee, a 225-case blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Cabernet Franc, all from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard. This sexy 2011 is a candidate for the wine of the vintage. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by notes of forest floor, violets, bouquet garni, black currant and blueberry fruit, stunning richness and no herbaceousness or astringency, and a long, lush finish. A terrific effort in this challenging vintage, it can be enjoyed over the next 10-12 years. The Morlet brothers, Nick, who works at Peter Micha ...Read More »

2011 Occidental (Kistler) "Bodegas Headlands - Cuvee Elizabeth" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

97 points Vinous: "Whereas the Cuvée Catherine is built on fruit, the 2011 Pinot Noir Bodega Headlands Cuvée Elizabeth is a much more inward, structured wine. Here the flavors are bright, precise and endowed with considerable energy. Cranberry, pomegranate, crushed rocks, rose petals and savory herbs are all supported by veins of underlying acidity and minerality that should allow the 2011 to develop beautifully in bottle. All of the 2011 Pinots have really blossomed over the last year, but none to the extent of the Cuvée Elizabeth, which today is stunning. 2011 Kistler "Cuvée Natalie - Silver Belt" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

95 points Vinous: "An eccentric, beguiling Pinot, the 2011 Pinot Noir Silver Belt Cuvée Natalie is long on personality. Heady, exotic aromatics meld into a core of beautifully layered fruit in an expressive yet weightless, ethereal Pinot that constantly changes in the glass. Game, savory herbs and tangerine peel all add nuance on the finish. The Cuvée Natalie is mostly Swan clone Pinot, with some Calera. Anticipated maturity 2014-2023. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, cherry-cola, incense and fresh rose, with a zesty mineral nuance adding lift ...Read More »

2011 DuMol "Ryan" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Brambly huckleberry and blueberry on the nose, along with hints of black cherry and earthy spices. Sappy, juicy and sweet, with a suave grain and lovely inner-mouth perfume to the flavors of wild berries, cola spices and sexy oak. Very supple pinot with a long, ripe, rising finish perked up by a peppery accent. (ST)" (5/2014) 92 points Vinous: "The 2011 Pinot Noir Ryan Widdoes Vineyard hits the palate with a blast of dark red fruit. Intensity and power are the hallmarks, while subtlety and nuance take more of a back seat, at least today. Deeply expressive spic ...Read More »

2011 Aubert Carneros Chardonnay

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Chardonnay Carneros is classy, layered and exceptionally beautiful. Lemon, apricots, pears and white flowers all wrap around the palate, but what stands out most is the sheer silkiness and textural finesse of the wine. Moreover, tropical notes emerge with time, but in the end, this is a fairly restrained Chardonnay from Mark Aubert. Sweet floral notes meld into the soft, caressing finish. In 2011, Aubert lost a considerable amount of fruit in Hyde. The bulk of the wine was sold off, but Aubert bottled the best 40% and declassified it into the Ca ...Read More »
