2011 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

94 points Vinous: "Savory herbs, menthol, smoke and licorice are some of the aromas that open up in the glass in the 2011 Dominus. This is a relatively immediate, expressive Dominus with plenty of near-term appeal. The style is open and succulent for the year, with lovely balance and poise. Crushed rose petals and dried herbs linger in the close. With time in the glass, the 2011 fleshes out nicely. In 2011 Dominus is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc... As always, I tasted two bottles of each wine; the first was double decanted about 18 hours in ...Read More »

2011 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (94VN, 94W&S, 93JS, 90ST). Wine & Spirits: "Christian Moueix and his team at Dominus have experience with rainy vintages in Bordeaux. They also farm a site that is particularly well adapted to draining excess water. So they produced a remarkable 2011, a late vintage challenged by rain close to harvest. It’s proof that a challenge met can create something sublime—like this floral, red-raspberry-scented vintage of Dominus. It’s a tense chord of flavor incorporating green herb, tobacco, cassis and raspberry in a lasting harmony. The sophisticated structure suggests it will age with grace, while the gentleness of that structure will make it accessible along the way. A great bottle for lamb. " (10/2014)

2011 Enkidu "Humbaba" North Coast Rhône Blend

A blend of 68% Syrah and 30% Petite Syrah with a splash of Alicante. From the producer: "The 2011 Humbabas shows its typical sweet root earthiness as in other vintages, which combine with candied cherries, toast and a little meatiness. While the texture is warm and luxurious, there is a nice backbone grip of tannin to hang the flavors on to a long finish. This Humbaba, like our previous vintages, continues to develop considerable complexity as it ages."

2011 Larkmead Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of pine needles, fresh herbs, blackberries and currants follow through to a full body with a silky tannin texture and a juicy, mineral and light mint character. They declassified 45% of wine made and sold it in bulk so the best wines went into this. Better in 2015." (5/2014) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) offers up notes of mulberries, licorice, plums and tobacco leaf in its medium-bodied, surprisingly concentrated, well-made personality. There are over 3,000 cases produced, and it is one of the top wines made on the va ...Read More »

2011 Saxum "Broken Stones" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (Previously 130)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The brilliant 2011 Syrah Broken Stones comes from a cooler block of the James Berry Vineyard and checks in as a blend of 78% Syrah, 18% Mourvedre and 4% Petit Sirah. Relatively forward (especially when compared to the locked up Bone Rock), with fabulous purity and freshness, it exudes notions of creme de cassis, blueberry, pepper, crushed flowers and sweet oak on the nose. Full-bodied, seamless and elegant, yet with building richness and rock star length, it’s an elegant version of the cuvee to drink over the coming 15 years or more. 2010-2011 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir Vertical

Of the 2010 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2010 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard is a slightly tighter style of Pinot Noir, and lighter than the 2009. There is more acidity showing through, the fruit offering up various red and black fruits from pomegranate to plum to cassis, dark sweet cherries as well as foresty underbrush notes. It is developing quickly, without the intensity of flavor of the 2009. Anticipated maturity: now-2025. (RP)" (08/2015)

2011 Rhys "Family Farm Vineyard" San Mateo County Pinot Noir

93 points John Gilman: "The 2011 Family Farm bottling has come in a tad less ripe than the Home Vineyard (12.8 percent alcohol versus 13-2 percent- both very, very civilized octane numbers in my book!) and as a result the wine is even a touch more red fruity and soil-driven in this vintage. The gorgeously complex nose offers up scents of cherries, beetroot, pomegranate, a great, complex base of soil, vinesmoke, a touch of nutskin, fresh herbs and a lovely, discreet framing of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very transparent, with a fine core of ...Read More »

2011 Sine Qua Non "Dark Blossom" California Grenache (Previously $300)

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Grenache Dark Blossom is probably the best Grenache-based blend in the vintage. A blend of 75% Grenache, 12.5% Syrah, 11.5% Mourvedre and a splash of Roussanne (fermented with 11% whole clusters), it has a perfumed, complex style, with notions of black raspberry, cassis, dried flowers, white pepper and licorice giving way to a full-bodied, layered and seamless mouthfeel. There’s no shortage of fruit here, and while it’s hard to resist now, it has enough tannin to warrant short-term cellaring. It should knock it out of the park through 2029. (JD) ...Read More »

2011 Sine Qua Non "Patine - Eleven Confessions Vineyard" Santa Rita Hills Syrah (Previously $500)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A wine that needs to be forgotten in the cellar for 5-6 years, the 2011 Syrah Patine checks in as a blend of roughly 97% Syrah and the balance Roussanne and Viognier. It too comes all from the estate's Eleven Confessions Vineyard and saw 39 months in 63% new French oak. Backward, tight, concentrated and structured, with full-bodied richness and depth, it gives up Guigal La Landonne like aromas and flavors of graphite, sweet oak, smoked meats, pepper and black raspberry and cassis-like fruit. 2011 Joseph Phelps Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Vinous: "The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon emerges from the glass with mocha, tobacco, grilled herbs, smoke, licorice, incense and orang peel. An exotic, layered wine, the 2011 impresses for its length and pure persistence. The style is that of a cold year, which means the tannins are a bit firm and in need of further bottle age. This is a beautiful wine for the year, but also in its own right. Readers need to give the 2011 at least another year or two in bottle. 2011 Carlisle "Steiner Vineyard" Sonoma Mountain Grüner Veltliner

92 points Vinous: "The 2011 Grüner Veltliner Steiner Vineyard, from a site on Sonoma Mountain, is frankly an eye-opening wine. Expressive varietal Grüner aromas and flavors flow from the glass, but with extra dimensions of pure volume and texture that speak eloquently to the generosity of California. What a gorgeous wine this is. The 2011 was done entirely in stainless steel, with blocked malolactic fermentation. 2011 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Silver Oak's 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was carefully and selectively harvested over more than a month at the end of the cool 2011 growing season. Blended with 14.5% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Malbec, the varietal composition was determined early in the aging process and the blended lots were then aged in new American oak barrels for two full years. The tannins are nicely wrapped into play, folds well and builds nicely. More herbal, sappy and greener style here. (NS)" (1/2015) K&L Notes: The 2011 vintage offered challenging situations, as well as unique opportunities, for wineries that had the right stuff. Savory herbs, licorice, mint and new leather all emerge from the glass in this layered, sensual Pinot. The UV is less overtly fruit driven, but seems to place more emphasis on the savory side of Pinot. Polished tannins support a finish laced with tar, smoke, iron, licorice and autumn leaves. 92 points Wine & Spirits: "Williams Selyem has been buying grapes from Calegari since 2008, but this is the first vineyard designate they’ve made from this small vineyard in the heart of the Russian River Valley. At first the wine feels overly dramatic, its brash, rooty tannins vying against a plump fruit sweetness. It’s flavorful and structured, but it still needs some time to come into focus. With air it builds into a more gentle persistence, the fatness of its texture cushioning dark, spicy tones that would be delicious with grilled quail." Made in a showy, flamboyant style, it boasts a dense ruby/purple color as well as sweet notes of creme de cassis, violets, licorice, forest floor and new oak. This supple, round effort is one of the superstars of this challenging vintage. It should drink well for 10-15 years or longer. 2011 Hirsch Vineyards "San Andreas Fault" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

94 points Wine & Spirits: "This is delicious and utterly transparent coastal juice, electric in its tones of red plum and blood orange. A cedar bark tang gives it gravitas—as if recalling the eons of redwood mulch that built the soil on the uplifted marine sedimentary ridges of the Sonoma Coast. San Andreas—referencing the fault responsible for that uplift—draws on both older vines planted in the early 1990s and newer blocks planted in 2002, painting a picture of the entire Hirsch estate in a given vintage. 2011 Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs Sparkling Wine

It is marvelously well-bubbled with a very fine, creamy mousse, and its manifold parts are carefully joined in a rich and coherent whole with nary a hint of sweetness hindering its way." 2011 Ridge "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Wine & Spirits: "The cool 2011 season turned out a pristine vintage of Monte Bello, made from Cabernet (88 percent) grown on a limestone-inflected ridge high above Silicon Valley, blended with some Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The team at Ridge let the fruit recover for two weeks following an early October storm before picking, and were more aggressive in their extraction than normal, drawing as much color and structure as possible from the delicate fruit. Juicy and tightly wound, with fresh acidity energizing the middle palate but keeping the wine's dark berry flavors restrained today. There's a lightly peppery quality that gives away the vintage, but this highly aromatic wine is a big success for the year and very well made. Despite its considerable size and volume, the 2011 possesses stunning detail, nuance and freshness. Rose petals, violets and plums all grace a finish that stands out for its total elegance and class. 2011 Robert Craig Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Vinous: "The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is richer, deeper and inkier than the Mt. Veeder, but also comes across as a bit less structured, perhaps because the tannins are nearly buried by the fruit. Blackberry jam, cassis, new leather, smoke and incense all flow through to a deep, resonant finish. This is another Cabernet Sauvignon built for the cellar, even if the 2011 is very tempting, especially for such a big wine. The explosive finish leaves a deep and lasting impression. I was deeply impressed with the three 2011 Cabernets I tasted from Robert ...Read More »

2011 Kistler "Kistler Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Pinot Noir Kistler Vineyard (made primarily from the Calera clone), which sees one-third new oak and is 100% destemmed, possesses lots of raspberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with hints of underbrush and forest floor, and a nice meatiness to its texture. There has been a progressive trend by Kistler’s winemaking team and owners to harvest at slightly lower sugars, back off slightly on the percentage of new oak used, and bottle their wines earlier. All of this is designed to preserve as much fruit and freshness in the wines as possible. ( ...Read More »

2011 Anthill Farms "Tina Marie Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Floral- and spice-accented aromas of candied red fruits, with deeper sassafras and licorice nuances coming up with air. Fleshy and broad, with good heft to its chewy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors, which are enlivened by tangy minerality. Turns spicier with air and finishes with sneaky fine-grained tannins and a lingering floral note. (ST)" (6/2013) 90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding* The cool and stylish nose combines both upper and lower register aromas of cranberry, raspberry and cherry together with plum and dark currant scents. There is good pun ...Read More »

2011 Robert Craig Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Vinous: "Exotic, layered and structured, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is wonderfully complete and expressive. Sweet tobacco, cedar, incense, grilled herbs, new leather and red plums are just some of the many notes that emerge from the glass. Veins of underlying minerality and firm mountain tannins provide the backbone for this serious beautiful, expressive Cabernet Sauvignon. Ferrous notes reappear on the finish, adding distinction and complexity. Readers will have to give the 2011 at least a few years in bottle, even if the wine is already pretty strik ...Read More »

2011 Rudius Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

From the winery: "In 2011 our Tierra Roja Vineyard in Oakville and our Panek Vineyard in St Helena combined to produce an expansive yet sophisticated blend that is unmistakably Rudius. This is the only Cabernet we produced from the 2011 vintage, and is a best barrel selection from our two favorite vineyards. Everything you loved about our 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet can be found in this wine with a few extra surprises. The aromatics have a similar character to our Cabernets from earlier years with dark blackberry and warm baking spice notes, but you will a... Read More »

2011 Williams Selyem "Estate Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* While this Pinot isn’t in the same league as the winery’s 2011 Precious Mountain or Allen vineyard wines, it’s a gorgeous wine nonetheless. With moderate alcohol and vibrant acidity, it offers complex layers of cherries, raspberries, cola, sandalwood and exotic spices. You won’t be disappointed if you hold it until 2019." (2/2014) 91 points Vinous: "Dried flowers, wild herbs, rose petals, cherries and hard candy flesh out in the 2011 Pinot Noir Williams Selyem Estate Vineyard. Inviting and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2011 impresses for its poise, ...Read More »

2011 Anthill Farms "Campbell Ranch" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Candied cherry, rose petal and smoky Indian spices on the seductively perfumed nose. Juicy, bright and sharply delineated, with sappy dark berry, bitter cherry, licorice and spicecake flavors. Supple and fruity but also nicely dry and linear. Finishes with sweet, fine-grained tannins and excellent, mineral-driven persistence. The balance of depth, energy and finesse here is very impressive." (5/2013)

2011 Occidental (Kistler) "Bodegas Headlands - Cuvee Elizabeth" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

97 points Vinous: "Whereas the Cuvée Catherine is built on fruit, the 2011 Pinot Noir Bodega Headlands Cuvée Elizabeth is a much more inward, structured wine. Here the flavors are bright, precise and endowed with considerable energy. Cranberry, pomegranate, crushed rocks, rose petals and savory herbs are all supported by veins of underlying acidity and minerality that should allow the 2011 to develop beautifully in bottle. All of the 2011 Pinots have really blossomed over the last year, but none to the extent of the Cuvée Elizabeth, which today is stunning. 2011 Schrader "Beckstoffer To Kalon - RBS" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Vinous: "Schrader's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon RBS Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is pure silk on the palate. The aromas, flavors and textures are incredibly refined and lifted. A soft, seamless wine that stands out for its gorgeous balance, the 2011 is showing beautifully today. Freshly cut flowers, mint and red berries all flow through to the impeccably refined finish. It is fascinating to taste the RBS next to Las Piedras. Both wines are Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon, but here we are in To Kalon, where the flavors seem to have a little more definition.
