2011 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2011 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Silver Oak's 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was carefully and selectively harvested over more than a month at the end of the cool 2011 growing season. Blended with 14.5% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Malbec, the varietal composition was determined early in the aging process and the blended lots were then aged in new American oak barrels for two full years. In keeping with Silver Oak's practice of releasing the wine only when it is ready to drink, the bottles were then aged an additional two years before release. From the winery... Read More »

2011 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

92 points Vinous: "The 2011 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) has a bit of a darker toned than the Russian River bottling, and also firmer in its tannin. Plum, black cherry, menthol, tobacco and licorice meld together gracefully as the 2011 opens up in the glass. The combination of fruit and structure is compelling. This is a fabulous appellation-level Pinot, due in part to the vineyard blend, which in 2011 includes 40% fruit from Gap's Crown, along with Terra del Promissio and Walala. (AG)" (2/2014) 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*One star* Very pure, ripe-cherry fruit leads the way here, and, if perhaps a bit l ...Read More »

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Pinot Noir La Caprice, which was harvested before any damaging rains arrived and is above the fog line on the Sonoma Coast, exhibits classic notes of black raspberries, graphite, flowers, red and black fruits, spice and forest floor. Not quite as rich or dense as the 2010, or as structured and chewy as the 2009, the evolved, seductive 2011 should provide enormous pleasure over the next 10-12 years. (RP)" (12/2013)

2011 Lagier Meredith Mount Veeder Syrah

92 points Wine Spectator: "Firm, rich and dense, this muscle-bound effort is very tight and complex, focused on mineral, dark berry, tobacco, roasted coffee and mocha notes. Long and gripping on the finish. (JL)" (3/2014) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Meredith’s Midas touch with Syrah did not abandon her in the challenging 2011 vintage. Perhaps it’s the higher altitude Mt. Veeder AVA that was the key to her success. A dark, pliant, brooding wine, the 2011 has an element of gravitas that is impossible to miss. All the elements meld together nicely in the glass. Ripe, silky tannins lend an element of total grace and exquisite overall harmony. In 2011 the Martinelli Road is impeccably polished. 2011 Kosta Browne Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Two Stars* We have found it not all that uncommon for a Pinot producer's appellation bottlings to equal or even surpass some of its single-vineyard examples, and this very deep and carefully constructed effort gives its pricier partners a good run for their money. It is long on ripe-cherry fruit and accented with bright, raspberry-like notes, and it is perked up by neatly placed acidity from first sip to finish. 2011 Peter Michael "Clos du Ciel" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Lots of forest floor, underbrush, cola and red and black currant characteristics are present in this more evolved yet surprisingly powerful and dense 2011. Production was 530 cases, which is significantly more than in either 2009 or 2010. (RP)" (12/2013) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid ruby. The 2011 offers an attractive combination of minerality and that distinctive expression of fruit that is so typical of the Sonoma coast. This is a gorgeous effort. In 2011, yields came in at just one ton per acre and the harvest finished on October 2, exceedingly late for Pinot. Showing beautifully from barrel, it didn’t disappoint from bottle and has a perfumed, elegant feel to its purple fruits, lavender, violets, white pepper and underbrush-like aromas and flavors. 2011 Sea Smoke "Southing" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

Wine Spectator: "Attractive ripe plum and blueberry notes turn firm and taut, with snappy tannins holding the flavors on the palate, ending with a cleansing aftertaste. Drink now through 2022." (9/2014) K&L Notes: A darling of the critics, Sea Smoke's "Southing" remains one of the Central Coast's cult Pinots. The fruit comes entirely from the Sea Smoke Estate Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and sees 16 months in 55% new French oak barrels. "Southing" tends towards the heady side, complex and wild, red-fruited, with dynamic floral, earth, spice, and mineral notes. From the winery: "Ea... Read More »

2011 Rudius Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

From the winery: "In 2011 our Tierra Roja Vineyard in Oakville and our Panek Vineyard in St Helena combined to produce an expansive yet sophisticated blend that is unmistakably Rudius. This is the only Cabernet we produced from the 2011 vintage, and is a best barrel selection from our two favorite vineyards. Everything you loved about our 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet can be found in this wine with a few extra surprises. The aromatics have a similar character to our Cabernets from earlier years with dark blackberry and warm baking spice notes, but you will a... Read More »

2011 Robert Biale "Monte Rosso" Sonoma Valley Zinfandel

The Monte Rosso Vineyard sits on privileged ground at the fog line overlooking the Sonoma Valley. In ages past, it was under the stewardship of Louis M. Martini that it became one of the most revered vineyard sources in California. The oldest Zinfandel vines in Monte Rosso date back to the late 1800s, and Robert Biale has bottled a very limited production from these vines since 1995. A wine of structure and distinction, to label this bottling "old vines" would simply be inadequate. From the winery: "In 2011 Monte Rosso brings its A-game. The cool and mod... Read More »

2011 Kosta Browne "Keefer Ranch" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Back In Stock!
2011 Kosta Browne "Keefer Ranch" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

95 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Three Stars* We have often found a singular and very identifiable purity to the fruit of Russian River's best Pinot sites, and this lovely version from Keefer Ranch is perfect example of just that. It is optimally ripened and very rich right from the first with a long and very deep complement of juicy, red-cherry fruit, and its teasing suggestions of sweet oak and dried flowers only make a good thing even better. It manages to be lively and lithe and fairly substantial all at once, and its lengthy, amazingly vital finish further marks it as a decidedly ...Read More »

2011 Rochioli Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale yellow. High-pitched aromas of lemon zest, green apple, jasmine and iodine, with a hint of white pepper coming up with air. Dry and precise sauvignon, offering solid punch to its intense citrus and floral flavors. Powerful but weightless wine with excellent finishing clarity and length." (5/2012)

2011 Rhys "Bearwallow Vineyard" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid red. Strong raspberry and cherry-cola aromas, with suave floral and Asian spices adding complexity. Silky and very fresh, with impressively focused red fruit flavors and a building note of rose pastille. The persistent, gently tannic finish emphatically repeats the red berry and floral notes and lingers with bright, spicy intensity." (5/2013) 91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is less obviously floral than the Alpine but slightly more aromatically complex with its elegant aromas of violets, plums and red currants. There is really lovely intensity to the delicious middle weight ...Read More »

2011 Paul Hobbs "Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Decadent in coconut flake and vanilla, this is a fruity vintage of one of Hobbs’ top-of-the-top Cabernets. Soft and structured, the silky tannins deftly managed, it captures the essence of the Napa Valley’s best valley floor grapes at the hands of an expert winemaker, a textbook marriage of beauty and brawn." (11/2014) 92 points Vinous: "The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard is deep, powerful and earthy. Spices, leather, tobacco, menthol and cedar notes fill out the wine's broad-shouldered frame quite nicely. The tannins are quite formidable at this stag ...Read More »

2011 Enkidu "Humbaba" North Coast Rhône Blend

A blend of 68% Syrah and 30% Petite Syrah with a splash of Alicante. From the producer: "The 2011 Humbabas shows its typical sweet root earthiness as in other vintages, which combine with candied cherries, toast and a little meatiness. While the texture is warm and luxurious, there is a nice backbone grip of tannin to hang the flavors on to a long finish. This Humbaba, like our previous vintages, continues to develop considerable complexity as it ages."

2011 Morlet "Coeur de Vallée" Napa Valley Red Wine

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better is the 2011 Coeur de Vallee, a 225-case blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Cabernet Franc, all from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard. This sexy 2011 is a candidate for the wine of the vintage. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by notes of forest floor, violets, bouquet garni, black currant and blueberry fruit, stunning richness and no herbaceousness or astringency, and a long, lush finish. A terrific effort in this challenging vintage, it can be enjoyed over the next 10-12 years. The Morlet brothers, Nick, who works at Peter Micha ...Read More »

2011 Sine Qua Non "Dark Blossom" Grenache
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Sine Qua Non "Dark Blossom" Grenache (97RP, 97VN, (93-95ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Grenache Dark Blossom is probably the best Grenache-based blend in the vintage. A blend of 75% Grenache, 12.5% Syrah, 11.5% Mourvedre and a splash of Roussanne (fermented with 11% whole clusters), it has a perfumed, complex style, with notions of black raspberry, cassis, dried flowers, white pepper and licorice giving way to a full-bodied, layered and seamless mouthfeel. There’s no shortage of fruit here, and while it’s hard to resist now, it has enough tannin to warrant short-term cellaring. It should knock it out of the park through 2029. (JD)" (08/2014)

2011 Occidental (Kistler) "Bodegas Headlands - Cuvee Elizabeth" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

97 points Vinous: "Whereas the Cuvée Catherine is built on fruit, the 2011 Pinot Noir Bodega Headlands Cuvée Elizabeth is a much more inward, structured wine. Here the flavors are bright, precise and endowed with considerable energy. Cranberry, pomegranate, crushed rocks, rose petals and savory herbs are all supported by veins of underlying acidity and minerality that should allow the 2011 to develop beautifully in bottle. All of the 2011 Pinots have really blossomed over the last year, but none to the extent of the Cuvée Elizabeth, which today is stunning. 2011 Sine Qua Non "Dark Blossom" California Syrah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Sine Qua Non "Dark Blossom" California Syrah (99RP, 96VN, (94-95ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Syrah Dark Blossom showed even better from bottle than barrel. A blend of 84% Syrah, 8% Grenache, 4% Petite Sirah and the rest Roussanne and Petite Manseng, this beauty was fermented with 17% whole clusters and aged in equal parts new and used French oak. One of the shining successes in the vintage, it’s a full-bodied, concentrated and layered Syrah that has awesome aromatics of blackcurrants, Peking duck, pepper, licorice and charcuterie in its seamless, thrillingly pure profile. As with Manfred’s other 2011s, the tannins are certainly present, yet they’re sweet, polished and have no hard edges. Give this beauty 2-3 years in the cellar and enjoy bottles through 2031.
