2011 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2011 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The brand-new release of this cult California Cab comes from a cooler, late-ripening vintage, the conditions of which have endowed the wine with the structure to age for the long haul. A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. From the winery: "Our 2011 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a harmonious and vibrant wine. This full-bodied, classic expression of Alexander Valley Cabernet in a cool vintage has a bright ruby-red color with purple undertones. The nose exudes aromas of black cherry, cedar and black ... 2011 Ousterhout "Nance's Vineyard" Alexander Valley Zinfandel (Previously $28)

95 points Wine & Spirits: "The vines that grew this supremely elegant wine were planted in 1999 on the red volcanic loam of a hillside and benchland vineyard in the southeast corner of Alexander Valley. Douglas and Nancy Ousterhout purchased the vineyard in 2009 and hired a pinot noir winemaker, Micah Wirth of Joseph Jewel, to create this silky, delicate zin. It’s as bright as a red cherry fresh off the tree, feeling almost weightless on the palate. As the wine takes on air, the tannins provide an edgy minerality that focuses and amplifies the fruit into a sunny, ruby-red laser be ...Read More »

Another wine that manages to be both rich but not ponderous, the 2011 Bear Point blossoms in all directions as the fruit opens up in the glass. A creamy, highly expressive finish rounds things out in style. The Bear Point is made from the “Peter Michael” Chardonnay clone, which is believed to have originated on this property! 2011 Sbragia "Monte Rosso" Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $55) Top Pick!
2011 Sbragia "Monte Rosso" Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $55)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sbragia continues to purchase fruit from the Gallo Family-owned Monte Rosso Vineyard, one of the most iconic sites in Sonoma. The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard is one of the stars of this much maligned, irregular vintage. Its deep, inky/blue/purple color is accompanied by scents of loamy soil, licorice, roasted herbs, blackcurrants and blackberries. This beautiful, full-throttle 2011 eclipses the vintage’s reputation and overall quality. Drink it over the next decade. 2011 Stonestreet "Estate" Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* This wine is quite an accomplishment in flavor and complexity given the vintage and the price. From high-altitude vineyards atop the Mayacamas, it delivers peppercorn, herb and fine, well-integrated tannins, with mellow oak. Graphite and cedar also figure into the mix, with a shock of black cherry and cassis weaved within. Drink now through 2019." 2011 Qupé "Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard - K&L Selection" Edna Valley Syrah Top Pick!
2011 Qupé "Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard - K&L Selection" Edna Valley Syrah

Arguably the most popular of the co-branded wines with our staff last year was the 2010 version of this wine so it had a lot to live up to this year. The good news is the staff is every bit as excited about it this year and we hope that enthusiasm will rub off on you. Bob Lindquist was more than happy to work with us again this year and put together this 100% Syrah bottling from certified Demeter biodynamically grown vines in the cool Edna Valley Appellation. Unmistakably Syrah from the first sniff of the nose the bold cracked black pepper, fried bacon, ... Read More »

2011 Heitz Cellar Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Vinous: "The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is bright, floral and nuanced, with expressive aromatics, red toned fruit and plenty of citrus-inflected overtones that give the wine its lift and aromatic top notes. This is an especially lithe, delicate wine with good balance but less concentration than is the norm. Crushed rose petals, mint and white pepper add the closing shades of nuance. (AG)" (10/2015)

2011 Domaine Eden Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Vinous: "Domaine Eden's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, from vineyards in Saratoga and Los Gatos, is wonderfully fleshy and open in the glass. Sweet red cherry, plum, savory herb, menthol and floral notes all meld together in a tasty, foreword Cabernet Sauvignon to drink now and over the next handful of years. There is plenty to like here, including the wine's inviting personality and impeccable balance. Domaine Eden is Mount Eden's sister estate. 2011 De Su Propia Cosecha "La Cosecha" Central Coast Rhône Blend

While the Central Coast is certainly known for its Pinot Noir, there are plenty of other great wines there as well. Take, for example, the wealth of Rhône-styled wines in the greater area. The 2011 De Su Propia Cosecha "La Cosecha" Central Coast Rhône Blend is one of the new steals we found on our recent Central Coast trip. 91 points Vinous: ""Savory herbs, tar, licorice, ash, dark raspberries and wild flowers all emerge from Seavey's 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Caravina. The 2011 is just a touch compact, but it nevertheless has plenty of energy. An intense, powerful wine, the 2011 needs another few years in bottle for the tannins to soften. There is no shortage of personality here. The Coravina is made from the estate's young vines. The wine is made up of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. It drinks well right now but should hold for several years. Members of the K&L staff had a chance to go down and spend a couple hours with Doug and his crew at the winery. The thought was to make a red blend from Happy Canyon, which K&L had never done before. While we like its freshness and its hard-to-miss vibrancy, we would be happier if it were a little more outgoing in fruit, but given the winery's track record for slow-to-unfold, long-aging white wines, we are willing to set this one aside for several years." (5/2014) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright medium yellow. Aromas of mango, stone and soft citrus f ...Read More »

2011 Walter Hansel "Cuvée Alyce" Russian River Valley Chardonnay

93 points Vinous: "Nectarine, honey, almonds and white flowers meld together in the 2011 Chardonnay Cuvee Alyce. An unusually viscous, oily Chardonnay for the vintage, the 2011 should drink well early, yet it also has more than enough body, volume and texture to age well for at least a few years. (AG)" (2/2014) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright yellow-gold. Ripe pear and peach aromas are complicated by anise, buttered toast and iodine. Concentrated and lively, offering intense orchard fruit flavors and a refreshingly bitter citrus pith nuance that gains strength with air. Shows real energy on the impr ...Read More »

2011 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Reminding me of a top 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape (the 2010 Raymond Usseglio Cuvee Imperiale to be exact), the 2011 James Berry Vineyard is a blend of 69% Grenache, 13% Mourvedre, 13% Syrah, 2% Counoise, and a splash of Roussanne, that was aged in a combination of concrete (Grenache) and larger oak puncheons. A fresh, detailed and more elegant example of the cuvee, it offers gorgeous notes of ripe berry fruit, loads of exotic spice, violets, pepper and lavender to go with a full-bodied, beautifully pure and layered profile on the palate. It’s no blockbuster ...Read More »

2011 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points James Suckling: "Rich dark berry fruits with plenty of swagger; this has bundles of sweet fruit flavor on the palate with plenty of deep and convincingly rich fruit flesh and bold presence. The tannins are nicely wrapped into play, folds well and builds nicely. More herbal, sappy and greener style here. (NS)" (1/2015) K&L Notes: The 2011 vintage offered challenging situations, as well as unique opportunities, for wineries that had the right stuff. As the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignons are released, many are turning out to be quite classically styled. Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon is based ... Read More »

2011 Joseph Jewell "Grist Vineyard" Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel

94 points Wine & Spirits: "This racy Zinfandel comes from a modern planting in the red volcanic hills to the west of Dry Creek Valley proper. Winemaker Micah Wirth’s Pinot-focused background seems to give him a particular knack for zeroing in on Zinfandel’s most refreshing side. Here, that means a Zin focused on spice and tangy acidity, bursting with a springy red plum tone that lifts toward aromas of peppercorn and lavender. There’s not an ounce of fat, just cool-vintage hillside sunlight in vinous form. Use its clean focus to brighten lighter fare, like grilled salmon." (8/2015)
