2013 Cep (Peay Vineyards) Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Vinous: "The 2013 Pinot Noir is a tasty, fruity red to drink over the next year or two, while the fruit retains its juiciness. Hints of rose petal and cinnamon add attractive layers of complexity. The 2013 is 70% declassified Peay juice and 30% fruit purchased from nearby properties. Peay does an excellent job with Cep, their sister label of budget-friendly wines. All of these current releases are tasty. The Syrah is the standout, as it is made up of declassified barrels of the two Peay vineyard designate, Syrahs, while the other wines are conceived from the outs ...Read More »

2013 Aubert "UV Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The rich, prodigious, full-bodied 2013 Pinot Noir UV, made from the Calera and Vosne-Romanée clones, is a denser, richer wine offering abundant notes of blueberries, blackberries, forest floor and strong hints of Asian hoisin sauce, dark fruits and forest floor. There are approximately 1,000 cases of this sensational Pinot, which Mark Aubert decanted 12 hours in advance of my visit. There is not a trace of new oak in this wine, which spent 10 months in 100% new barrels. Like all the 2013 Pinot Noirs, it has a decade or more of aging potential." (12/2014) 94 points Vinous: "T ...Read More »

2013 Kenneth Volk "Jaybird-Unoaked" Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay

Jancis Robinson: "Special blocks are used for this unoaked wine: Sierra Madre and Cottonwood Canyon Vineyards. Peachy nose, lots of racy fruit. A bit hard on the end. Correct and fast fade." (3/2015) K&L Notes: From the winery: "The 2013 Jaybird has a distinct mineral, flinty aroma that is support by nuances of sliced pear and pineapple guava. On the palate, this wine is clean with refreshing acidity and flavors of apple and pear. This wine can be enjoyed as an aperitif, or paired with cuisine that calls for more acidity. It pairs well with raw fish and shellfish, or with sautéed seaf... Read More »

2003 Gemstone Yountville Bordeaux Blend

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The inky/purple-hued 2003 Proprietary Red Wine, a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and the rest tiny portions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, reveals copious notes of chocolate along with hints of melted tar, charcoal, black cherries, and currants. Full-bodied, dense, and well-balanced, it should drink well for 10-15 years. Interestingly, Paul Frank continues to sell much of his production to such high quality wineries as Pahlmeyer. He will undoubtedly do more and more estate bottling as his vineyard ages." (12/2005) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, deep medium ruby ...Read More »

2012 Aubert "Eastside Vineyard" Russian River Valley Chardonnay

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "No tasting note. (RP)" (12/2014) 95 points Vinous: "Smoke, slate, yellow orchard fruit, honey and apricot notes flesh out in the 2012 Chardonnay Eastside Vineyard, another of Mark Aubert's sites planted with the Montrachet clone. The heavy presence of rocks in this vineyard gives the wines a sense of energy that balances the overtness of the fruit. Even with all of the richness, there is plenty of detail and nuance in the glass. (AG)" (1/2014) 95 points Wine Spectator: "*Top 100 0f 2014, Highly Recommended* Delicious from start to lingering finish, this is rich, broad and exotic, with tiers of complexit ...Read More »

2001 Snowden Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2001 Snowden Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

According to the Wine Spectator: "Supple-textured up front, with ripe, harmonious currant and black cherry fruit that's well-centered, with complex hints of black olive, herb, cedar and spice, finishing with a solid core of tannins that have a tight grip. Best from 2005 through 2012." (11/04) According to Robert Parker: "More tannic and forceful than the 2000, with additional muscle, concentration, and volume is the full-bodied 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon. The tannin is more firm, and the wine cuts a larger swath across the palate... Potentially, the finest... Read More »

2006 Big Basin Vineyards "Mandala" Santa Cruz Mountains Syrah

Slower to reveal itself than other Big Basin wines, the Mandala Syrah is just starting to hint at its potential. It comes the winery's Estate vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains as well Fairview Ranch in the Santa Lucia Highlands. The combination of fruit creates a wine that, with some air, opens up to display aromas of plum, rhubarb, spice, white pepper and a little pine pitch. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with flavors of blackberry, Big cherry cedar box and earth. Firm tannins and lingering spice on the finish. This wine will really start ... Read More »

2003 Big Basin Vineyards Rattlesnake Rock Syrah Santa Cruz Mountains

90 points Robert Parker: "The 2003 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock Vineyard possesses copious notes of spicy vanillin along with hints of crushed rocks, charcoal, creme de cassis, and pepper. This harmonious, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, full-flavored Syrah should drink well for 7-8 years. This small estate, which produced only 140 cases in 2003 and 375 in 2004, exhibits considerable potential." (06/05) K&L's notes - This is the second vintage of this very limited Syrah made by Bradley Brown at his new estate above China Grade. The vineyards are planted... Read More »

2004 Gemstone "Facets" Yountville Bordeaux Blend

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 13% Cabernet Franc, the 2004 Facets of Gemstone exhibits a similar character, but more mocha, black cherry, chocolate, and espresso-like notes, a plumper, more lush sweetness (no doubt because of the higher percentage of Merlot), and great aromatics, texture, expansiveness, and length. It should improve for 2-5 years, and drink well for 12-15. (RP)" (12/2006) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Smoky, cedary oak aromas lead to a tight, dense core of earthy currant, blackberry, mineral and sage. Compact and concentrated, this is chewy and rus ...Read More »

2013 Turley "Dogtown" Lodi Zinfandel New!
2013 Turley "Dogtown" Lodi Zinfandel

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, slightly lower acidity, and a big, fleshy, full-bodied, multi-layered mouthfeel characterize the 2013 Zinfandel Dogtown Vineyard from Lodi. This vineyard was planted in 1944 on rolling hills largely composed of volcanic soils and come clay. The 2013 is a terrific example of Dogtown and stands out as one of the great successes Larry Turley and his winemaking team have had in this vineyard they have farmed for so long. The alcohol is heady (15.9%), but again, it throws the myth of excessive alcohol under the bus. The wine ...Read More »

1980 St. Clement Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (6L)

The house and grounds that St. Clement Vineyards is situated on were constructed in 1878. Passed on to several different owners over the decades, winemaking has always occurred at the estate. The current winery, founded in 1975, seeks to maintain those deep roots in Napa Valley history. This vintage was produced by winemaker Dennis Johns during his 19-year stint at St. Clement. Though Johns has since moved onto other projects, he helped establish St. Clement's reputation for producing premium wines, particularly intense, fruit-driven Cabernet Sauvignon.

1979 St. Clement Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (6L)

Not dissimilar to the wonderful '77--deep, rich and concentrated black fruits, ample tannins and drinking quite nicely at this point. 90 points from the Wine Spectator. St. Clement continues to fly under the radar, great for folks who wish to drink quality aged wine at what has to be considered a bargain price. (Joe Zugelder, K&L Old and Rare Buyer)

2006 Big Basin "Fairview Road Ranch" Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Syrah Fairview Ranch, from the Santa Lucia Highlands, is more evolved from a structural standpoint, with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, alcohol, and wood. It is broad yet elegant, with pure cassis and blackberry fruit, a hint of spring flowers, and a distinct earthiness. At present, this cuvee appears to be the safest choice. (RP)" (6/2008) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "2006 Santa Lucia Highlands Fairview Ranch Syrah A big-shouldered syrah with rich, velvety tannins, this shows full-on Santa?Lucia Highlands ripeness checked by the fine white pepper and savory smoke ...Read More »
