2015 Pied á Terre Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc (Previously $22)

Richard Luftig spent 20 years as a professional wine buyer in New York before turning his focus to making wine in Sonoma. His raison d'être is to make soulful wines for affordable prices that meet his exacting standards (he'd rather scrap a whole vintage than bottle something that doesn't). Along with winemaker Clay Mauritson, he crafts a Sauvignon Blanc from two vineyards in Bennett Valley that, according to his tasting notes, has a "restrained, subtle aroma of lime and sour green apple." This is easy drinking and fresh, with a great mouthfeel.

1997 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) Back In Stock!
1997 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An inky/plum/purple color is accompanied by a stunning bouquet of violets, charcoal, creme de cassis and a hint of toast. Prodigious when it hits the palate with a full-bodied expansiveness, there is not a hard edge to be found in the 1997, only velvety tannins, compelling depth and fruit intensity, and stunning purity. It is a perfect expression of Napa viticulture and wine that should continue to age effortlessly for two decades or more. (RP)" (11/2013) 97 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, rich and focused, youthful and concentrated, with hints of maturity on the edge of the core cur ...Read More »

2004 Big Basin Vineyards "Rattlesnake Rock" Santa Cruz Mountains Syrah

91-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The elegant, blue/purple-tinged, impressive 2004 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock exhibits a flowery character along with creme de cassis, full body, admirable fruit intensity, and good length." (8/2006) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Maybe it's the snake venom, but this is seriously good Syrah. Blackberry and cherry pie aromas and flavors, with caramelized oak, mocha, chocolate macaroon and vanilla extravagances that turn richer and richer with every sip. Defines Syrah’s power and elegance with immediate, voluptuous pleasure." (11/2006) 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Unabashed intensity and power are the hallmarks of this highl ...Read More »

2012 Aubert "Eastside Vineyard" Russian River Valley Chardonnay (Previously 230) New!
2012 Aubert "Eastside Vineyard" Russian River Valley Chardonnay (Previously 230)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "(Note from 2013 review, re-reviewed with no new note in 2014) The 2012 Chardonnay East Side, a vineyard owned by top viticulturist Ulises Valdez, is a 1,000-case cuvee that reveals a liquified wet stone character intermixed with notes of white currants, quince, honeysuckle, pineapple and peach marmalade. Strong minerality as well as a remarkable finish make this a candidate for perfection. (RP)" (12/2014) 95 points Vinous: "Smoke, slate, yellow orchard fruit, honey and apricot notes flesh out in the 2012 Chardonnay Eastside Vineyard, another of Mark Aubert's sites planted wi ...Read More »

2003 Gemstone Yountville Bordeaux Blend

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The inky/purple-hued 2003 Proprietary Red Wine, a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and the rest tiny portions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, reveals copious notes of chocolate along with hints of melted tar, charcoal, black cherries, and currants. Full-bodied, dense, and well-balanced, it should drink well for 10-15 years. Interestingly, Paul Frank continues to sell much of his production to such high quality wineries as Pahlmeyer. He will undoubtedly do more and more estate bottling as his vineyard ages." (12/2005) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, deep medium ruby ...Read More »
