2014 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Pre-Arrival)

97 points James Suckling: "The blackberry, dark-chocolate and walnut aromas are persuasive. Full body, a dense and fruity center palate and beautiful depth and intensity. The tannin texture is exceptional. Great wine. Drink in 2020 and onwards." (5/2017) 94-97 points Vinous: "The 2014 Insignia is shaping up to be one of the surprises of the vintage. A rich, explosive Insignia, the 2014 exudes pedigree. A host of dark red cherry, plum and pomegranate notes make a strong first impression. Bright, vibrant aromatics add lift, while beams of salinity contribute to the wine's energetic personality. One of the ...Read More »

2012 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (375ml) (Pre-Arrival)

96-100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An inky/purple color is accompanied by wonderful aromas of smoky black currant and blackberry fruit interwoven with incense, camphor, charcoal and new oak. The wine is deep, multidimensional, full-bodied, rich and opulent with a voluptuous texture. Even as a barrel sample, this stunning effort is irresistible. This deep, prodigious 2012 should be approachable when released and age effortlessly for 25-30 years. The 2012 Insignia (17,500 cases expected to be produced; 14.5% alcohol) is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot and the ...Read More »

2010 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Pre-Arrival)

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Insignia is striking. Cool, mineral notes frame a core of blue and black fruit, licorice, spices, smoke, and melted road tar as this stunning wine opens up in the glass. Totally alive in the glass, the 2010 captures the essence of this cold, late harvest. Hints of menthol, violets and crushed rocks all flow through to the incisive, vibrant finish. My sense is that the 2010 is still holding back much of its significant potential. The 2010 is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot and 2% Malbec. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2030. 2006 Laurel Glen Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (Pre-Arrival)

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky ruby. An expansive bouquet displays flamboyant dark berry compote, cherry-cola, licorice and dried rose. Palate-staining cassis and kirsch flavors are framed by silky tannins and gain an exotic candied floral quality with air. For such a deeply concentrated wine, this is strikingly lithe and precise. The finish strongly echoes the red fruit and floral notes and clings impressively. Patrick Campbell told me that he is paying much more attention to acidity these days 'because the last thing we need to worry about is getting enough sugar.'" (6/2009) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cel ...Read More »
