2012 Robert Mondavi "To Kalon Vineyard - Reserve" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon New! Top Pick!
2012 Robert Mondavi "To Kalon Vineyard - Reserve" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Wine Spectator: "An iron fist in a velvet glove, this wine begins with a supple, rich core of currant, black cherry, anise and sage, firming up with tannins from oak and grape. Glides along gracefully, never losing the core fruitiness, while the tannins and gravelly earth accents lend the flavors tension and traction. Drink now through 2029." (8/2015)94 points Antonio Galloni: "A dark, sumptuous beauty, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve To Kalon Vineyard boasts marvelous depth and pure texture. Hints of mocha, espresso, cloves, new leather and menthol wrap around a core of dark, pliant fruit. The ...Read More »

Full-bodied, very tight and structured with hints of hazlenuts, fine chocolate and hints of minerals and spices. A solid and classic-styled Napa Valley cab. Layered and very fine." (4/2015)96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The opaque purple-hued 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a glorious bouquet of crème de cassis, spring flowers, a Pauillac-like lead pencil note, and background new oak. 2012 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2012 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Revealing the great blending skills of Beringer’s winemaking team, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is a winner. Having purchased Private Reserves for many years, I can attest that they age incredibly well. The 1991, one of the great successes of that vintage, is still aging beautifully at nearly 25 years of age. The sensational 2012 (10,000 cases) boasts an opaque purple color along with abundant aromas of charcoal, burning embers, creme de cassis, chocolate, blackberries and licorice. Compacted and beautiful. Hard not to drink now but better in 2018. October 2015 release. This is 79% cabernet sauvignon, 7% cabernet franc, 6% merlot, 6% petit verdot and 2% malbec." Appropriately tannic and structured, this is made in a style you can drink now or cellar for up to a decade. Drink now through 2026." (7/2015) K&L Notes: Just released! The wine is deep, multidimensional, full-bodied, rich and opulent with a voluptuous texture. Even as a barrel sample, this stunning effort is irresistible. This deep, prodigious 2012 should be approachable when released and age effortlessly for 25-30 years. 2012 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Flirting with perfection, the 2012 Dominus is composed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Five thousand cases were produced, a relatively modest amount from this large vineyard’s big crop. Christian Moueix told me that there was plenty of heat in 2012, but there were no excessive hot spells that can plague Napa Valley vintners during the growing season and harvest. 2012 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A great effort from Far Niente in this truly magnificent vintage, with its similarities to 2002, the Far Niente 2012 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon has a dense purple color, plenty of structure and aging potential, and an impressive inner core of sweet crème de cassis fruit, licorice and background vanilla. This wine is still very much an infant in its evolution, and should keep for 20-30 years. Many 2012s are excessively generous, open-knit and fleshy, but this is holding a lot back. The wood, ripe fruit, tannin and acid balance is beautiful. Wonderful potential here." (5/2014)96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Possibly the Cabernet Sauvignon of the vintage is Shafer’s 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select. Espresso, mocha, rose petals and spices wrap around the radiant finish. This is such a gorgeous example of the year and one of the truly great sites in Napa Valley. 2011 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

94 points Antonio Galloni: "Savory herbs, menthol, smoke and licorice are some of the aromas that open up in the glass in the 2011 Dominus. This is a relatively immediate, expressive Dominus with plenty of near-term appeal. The style is open and succulent for the year, with lovely balance and poise. Crushed rose petals and dried herbs linger in the close. With time in the glass, the 2011 fleshes out nicely. In 2011 Dominus is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc... In basic terms, Cain "Five" is just that: the estate's top blend of Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The exact percentages of each are listed on the label, but that, as winemaker Chris Howell will tell you, does not explain anything. While it may seem like everybody talks a big game about their terroir, a lot of wineries are playing the point-score game, too, with heavily extracted wines from late-harvested grapes--a scene that Cain has quietly excused itself from--although James Suckling found his ... Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon ((93-95RP), 93AG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Monte Bello (87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc) emerges from the glass with tobacco, grilled herbs, smoke, incense and plums melding together in this soft, beautifully textured Monte Bello. The 2011 is a wine of exceptional textural finesse. The 100% new oak is totally integrated. In 2011, Ridge used a total of 18 of a possible 24 lots for the final blend. The presence of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon is the highest since the 1980s. I expect the 2011 to be a relatively early drinking Monte Bello, but time will be the judge. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2031. 2012 Jaedin Markus Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker's Notes: "To create our Cabernet Sauvignon, we hand-selected the best grapes from Broken Rock Vineyard in Napa Valley. Just up the road from Soda Canyon, laying at the base of Atlas Peak on the eastern ridge of the valley. Fruit from this area get the best of both worlds – hillside structure and rich flavors of the valley floor. Western exposure provides afternoon sun for the 2,000 vines planted per acre (talk about dense!) in extremely low fertility soil. There were near ideal conditions in 2012. Warm days and cool nights yielded beautiful f... Read More »

2012 Arietta "H Block Hudson" Napa Valley Red Blend (Previously $150)

94 points Antonio Galloni: "Mocha, red plums, spices and new leather meld together in the 2012 H Block, Arietta's Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend. Soft, textured and silky on the palate, the 2012 impresses for its depth and creamy, resonant personality. This is another winner from Arietta. Texturally, the H Block is a bit softer in its contours than the Merlot. This is the finest and most complete set of wines I can remember tasting from Arietta. Proprietor Fritz Hatton and winemaker Andy Erickson seem to have reached a new level of quality with the 2012s and 2013s, both of which are b ...Read More »

2004 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Complex, sweet nose combines black cherry, blackcurrant, gravel, licorice and graphite. Silky, minerally and sweet, with terrific intensity and thrust, not to mention inner-mouth energy. Finishes with a firm spine of ripe tannins and very persistent, mouthcoating fruits and minerals. This is a full 15.3% alcohol but I never would have guessed it. Interestingly, associate winemaker Gonzalez told me he particularly likes the power of the 2003 reds here, "especially in their youth." But this has real verve." (5/2007)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 86% Cabernet S ...Read More »

1995 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa has turned out even better than the 1994. It possesses a more saturated ruby/purple color, as well as a more flamboyant and exotic bouquet. Moreoever, it seems less evolved. Full-bodied and pure, with layer upon layer of concentrated black fruits, smoke, cedar, and toast, it should drink well for 16-17 years." (12/1998)

2004 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Antonio Galloni: "Readers looking for a Monte Bello that is ready to drink should consider the 2004. Just beginning to enter its early plateau of maturity, the 2004 is in a beautiful spot right now. Sweet tobacco, smoke, cedar, licorice and leather meld into a core of dark fruit. The 2004 won't last forever, but it does have enough depth to age beautifully for the another decade, perhaps more. A distinctly floral/savory finish rounds things out nicely." (7/2014)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Smoky cherry and cassis aromas are complicated by wilted rose, cured meat, licorice and sexy oak spices ...Read More »

1983 Opus One Napa Valley Proprietary Red

92 points Antonio Galloni: "The 1983 Opus One is absolutely impeccable. Dark red cherries, plums, licorice, tobacco and leather meld together in a wine that is all about balance. Soft and engaging, the 1983 is a great choice for drinking now and over the next decade. The 1983 isn't as huge or structured as some of the other vintages in this vertical, but it is drop-dead gorgeous. Both 1982 and 1983 show the characteristics of wet vintages with large crops that resulted in somewhat compact wines. In 1983 the Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit low for the era at 80%, while the rest of the b ...Read More »

2011 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points James Suckling: "Rich dark berry fruits with plenty of swagger; this has bundles of sweet fruit flavor on the palate with plenty of deep and convincingly rich fruit flesh and bold presence. The tannins are nicely wrapped into play, folds well and builds nicely. More herbal, sappy and greener style here. (NS)" (1/2015) K&L Notes: The 2011 vintage offered challenging situations, as well as unique opportunities, for wineries that had the right stuff. As the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignons are released, many are turning out to be quite classically styled. Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon is based ... Read More »

2012 Tor Kenward "Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of my highest ratings goes to the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard. Super sweet notes of white chocolate, crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, licorice and cedarwood along with baking spices soar from the glass of this first-growth look-alike from Tor Kenward. Everyone who uses this fabulous vineyard seems to create something extra special. With superb intensity, a full-bodied mouthfeel and incredible purity, texture and depth, this classic from Napa should drink well for 20-25 years. Tor Kenward continues to turn out a portfol ...Read More »

2002 Merus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has tightened down considerably since I first had it, which surprised me. Its dense opaque bluish/purple color offers up notes of charred wood and barbecue smoke as well as oodles of blackberry jam, licorice, and camphor. Some graphite also makes an impression in this full-bodied, massive and muscular, yet impressively built and multi-dimensional Cabernet Sauvignon. This cross-valley blend has turned out exceptionally well, but it is still a good 4-5 years away from full maturity, where it should stay for 15-20 years. (RP, 94+)" (6/2012)94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep, br ...Read More »

2011 Kosta Browne "Keefer Ranch" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

95 points Connoisseurs Guide: "We have often found a singular and very identifiable purity to the fruit of Russian River's best Pinot sites, and this lovely version from Keefer Ranch is perfect example of just that. It is optimally ripened and very rich right from the first with a long and very deep complement of juicy, red-cherry fruit, and its teasing suggestions of sweet oak and dried flowers only make a good thing even better. It manages to be lively and lithe and fairly substantial all at once, and its lengthy, amazingly vital finish further marks it as a decidedly collectable wi ...Read More »

2012 Peter Michael "Clos du Ciel" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The amazing 2012 Pinot Noir Clos de Ciel (575 cases) boasts a deep ruby color as well as a sweet perfume of black cherries, damp earth, forest floor, new saddle leather, and raspberries. Rich and medium to full-bodied with a floral component in addition to some tannins in the finish, the result is a slight compression and edginess to the wine as it finishes. This 2012 appears to need more time. I suspect it will hit its apogee in 7-8 years and last 25 or more. (RP)" (12/2014)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Brilliant ruby-red. High-pitched red fruit aromas are complicated by blood orange ...Read More »

2009 Staglin Family Vineyard "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

95 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is bursting with primal energy. Sweet floral notes meld into juicy red berries, spice box and cedar, all of which are laced together with remarkable elegance. Silky tannins add to an impression of refinement and total finesse. In 2009, Staglin’s Cabernet Sauvignon impresses for its superb delineation and nuance. The 2009 can be enjoyed with minimum cellaring if given a few hours in decanter. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. (AG)" (12/2012)95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense blue/purple-colored 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate possesses a complex bouquet o ...Read More »
