2013 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2013 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (97RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 James Berry Vineyard Proprietary Red is made from 45% Grenache, 29% Mourvedre, 18% Syrah and 8% Counoise (which Justin commented was a blend that was put together relatively late). It saw a big chunk of whole cluster (the Grenache was mostly destemmed though) and was brought up all in puncheons and foudre (the normal concrete component went to the Rocket Block). It offers up gorgeous notes of black raspberries, cherries, cassis, ground herbs and flowers. This beauty hits the palate with incredible purity, fine tannin and an overriding sense of elegance and finesse, backed up by full-bodied richness and depth. It needs to be forgotten for 3-4 years and it will drink beautifully through 2028. (JD)" (08/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Sine Qua Non "The Duel" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah (99RP, 96VN, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A prodigious effort that possesses overflowing richness and depth, the 2008 Syrah The Duel (88% Syrah, 6% Grenache and 6% Viognier, all from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard) delivers an off-the-hook drinking experience with decadent cassis, blackberry, smoked meats, crushed flowers and hints of spice all soaring from the glass. A full-bodied, unctuous Syrah that stays fresh and elegant, with vibrant acidity, it needs a solid decant if drinking anytime soon and will see its 20th birthday in fine form. Drink now-2028. Bid on this bottle of 1983 Ridge Vineyards "Langtry Road" California Claret. Praise for Ridge's cellar classics from the 1980s by Antonio Galloni: "It’s always a pleasure to have the opportunity to revisit some of the reference point wines that have emerged from Ridge over the last few years. As I have written in the past, if the United States had a formal classification of estates, Ridge would be the equivalent of a Bordeaux First Growth. These wines only serve to further reinforce that view." (06/2017)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Williams Selyem "Peay Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (93ST, 93WE, 90RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red. Complex, highly aromatic nose combines vibrant red berries, cherry compote, floral oils, Asian spices and a whiff of tarragon. Juicy and very intense but surprisingly light on its feet; spreads out to stain the palate without any impression of weight or warmth. This energetic wine should put on weight in a couple of years but is pretty intriguing now. Very pure pinot with fully integrated tannins and excellent finishing energy and lift. (ST)" (06/2010)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard is a gorgeous, clearly California version of a grand cru from Burgundy, such as Clos Saint-Denis or Clos de la Roche. This deep plum/garnet-colored wine offers intense berry fruit along with forest floor, spice box, earth and loads of plum, cherry and strawberry notes, moving toward darker fruits, as well as earthy, autumnal, foresty scents. Ginger, orange blossom and candied lemon are some of the signatures, but above all else, the Hudson is a wine of vertical intensity and power. The wine gets better and better with time in the glass. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Tor Kenward "Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard" Napa Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A magnificent effort, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard (approximately 300 cases) is reminiscent of a Bordeaux Pauillac. Cedar wood, creme de cassis, licorice, and spice box aromas soar from the glass of this opaque ruby/purple-colored cuvee. With fabulous fruit, intensity, full-bodied power, authoritative richness, and multiple flavor dimensions, this is a blockbuster Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink well for 20+ years. Tor Kenward and his winemaker, Jeff Ames, have produced some breakthrough efforts in 2005 and 2006. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa County Claret (95CG, 95RP, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Its opaque purple color is followed by a beautiful flowery nose revealing notions of blueberry pie, blackberries, cassis and a hint of vanillin in the background. An opulent, full-bodied red with great depth, purity and richness, it is a blend of 82% Sonoma fruit and 18% Napa fruit. The texture is like a skyscraper and the wine is plush, opulent and ideal for drinking over the next 10-15 years. This brilliant estate, whose vineyards straddle the Napa/Sonoma county line at the top of Spring Mountain, continues to turn out a bevy of exciting wines that first made headlines when Bob Foley was the winemaker. 2007 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2007 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah (95RP, 94ST, 92JS, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The black/purple 2007 Petite Sirah may well be around in 50-60 years, when most of us will be pushing up daisies. In fact, it probably needs to be forgotten for 8-10 years. A massive, pedal-to-the-metal Petite Sirah that looks like pen ink, the wine displays notes of creosote, pepper, spice box, blackberry, and blueberry, with hints of incense and floral undertones. It is dense and almost looks like syrup being poured into a glass. It is obviously not for everybody, as it is certainly a controversial New World wine, but these wines will become more and more civilized as they age, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this one is spoken of with reverence 40-50 years from now." Lots of soft strawberry, sweet cherry and blueberry notes emerge from this wine, giving it a Côte de Nuits-like character. Of the 2007 Rhys "Alpine Hillside" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Rhys Vineyards produces very ambitious wines from vines planted in specific sites in the Santa Cruz Mountains...it is almost impossible to latch on to a few bottles unless you are on the mailing list. The vineyards are generally tightly spaced (2 by 3 feet for Pinot Noir and 4 by 3 feet for Syrah), and the clonal selections are multiple in order to hopefully achieve more complexity and nuance. 2013 Hundred Acre "Few and Far Between" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2013 Hundred Acre "Few and Far Between" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Obviously, the Eisele Vineyard next door is a first-growth quality vineyard, and so is Jayson Woodbridge’s 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Few and Far Between. This has some Cabernet Franc (5%-15%), and spends 32 months in barrel. It is an absolutely outrageously great wine from the volcanic rocks and white volcanic ash of these soils in this northeast sector of Napa to the south of Calistoga. The finish goes on for over a minute, as this wine has layers and layers of fruit. If anything, it reminded me of a Château Latour on steroids. A magnificent example, it is one of the prodigious wines of this great vintage for Bordeaux varietals in Napa. The 2013 Few and Far Between already drinks well, but will still be reveling its purchasers 35-40 years from now. The sad thing about the Few and Far Between Vineyard is that it is only a five-acre parcel. (RP)" (10/

The wine boasts a saturated inky/purple color as well as extraordinary density of fruit and cassis, and huge tannin, body, and extract. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Sine Qua Non "Stock" Central Coast Syrah (98RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A step up from the Grenache, the blockbuster-styled 2012 Syrah Stock checks in as a blend of 84% Syrah, 7% Grenache, 6% Petit Sirah, and the rest Viognier and Mourvedre, that was fermented with 32% whole clusters and aged in just over half new French oak. It offers stunning notes of blackcurrants, cassis, smoked meats, ground pepper and wild herbs to go with a full-bodied, unctuous, layered, yet always graceful and elegant feel on the palate. Nicely structured, with perfect overall balance, it still has the open-knit character of the vintage, yet has plenty of underlying structure, which at the moment is slightly hidden by the wine's lavish fruit. 2003 Opus One Napa Valley Proprietary Red (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Opus One Napa Valley Proprietary Red (OWC - 94RP, 90VN) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec aged 17 months in French oak is a strong effort offering creme de cassis, cedarwood, white chocolate and spice box. It possesses a Bordeaux-like personality, as one might expect since Opus One is owned by Baroness Philippe de Rothschild and the winemaking team comes primarily from Pauillac. The significant tannin in the wine provides a slight austerity, but this is a full-bodied, rich effort that marks the beginning of a period when Opus One finally began to live up to the enormous potential first announced in the late 1970s by the late Baron Philippe de Rothschild and the late Robert Mondavi. 2003 Joseph Phelps "Backus Vineyard" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC)
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2003 Joseph Phelps "Backus Vineyard" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 98RP, 92ST) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus Vineyard, from the red soils of the Oakville Corridor and eastern hillsides overlooking Screaming Eagle and Rudd Estate, is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Blackberry, blueberry, crushed rock and white flower aromas soar from the glass of this stunningly rich, full-bodied wine. One of the most concentrated and potentially long-lived wines of the vintage, it is unquestionably a candidate for wine of the vintage. It is richer and more backward than the Insignia, but stunningly multidimensional, built like a skyscraper, and staggeringly profound. Wow! What an amazing wine. Forget it for another 4-5 years and drink it over the following quarter century. For statisticians, the 2003 Insignia finished with 14.4% alcohol and the Backus, 14.3%. (RP) 98+" (06/2013)

2004 Bond "St. Eden" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Bond "St. Eden" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98RP, 96WE, 93AG, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon St. Eden, which comes from a valley floor vineyard in Oakville, is another dead ringer for a great Pauillac, possibly a young Mouton. Dense bluish/purple in color with stunning notes of cedarwood, unsmoked high-quality cigar tobacco, creme de cassis and espresso roast, this wine has fabulous fruit, density and a full-bodied, youthful mouthfeel, wonderful balance and purity, and a terrific finish that goes on for close to a minute. This is also relatively open, but slightly more structured than the Melbury. There’s no sense deferring gratification, so I would suggest drinking it over the next 15-20 years, possibly longer. 2002 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP, 97WE, 97WS, 95W&S, 94VN, 93CG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In contrast to the more linear, structured, but massive 2001, the 2002 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is pure fruit-bomb material, but stunningly proportioned, beautifully pure, with notes of melted chocolate, blackcurrant jam, sweet black cherries, licorice, camphor and charcoal. Very full-bodied, like the 2001, but much more lavishly fruited, it is more accessible and hedonistically, as well as intellectually, satisfying. If the 2001 is the long-distance runner, this comes across more like a middle-distancer. It had performed fabulously well since it was released by the winery, and even though it’s still an adolescent in terms of its evolution, this wine is a head-turner in wine tastings, and a spectacular effort from Napa. Drink now or drink in 20-25 years. (RP)" (12/2014)

2012 Futo Oakville Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Futo Oakville Bordeaux Blend (99RP, (93-95VN)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The original wine from the Oakville Estate Vineyard is a relatively small cuvée of 546 cases. The 2012 Proprietary Red Estate is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. This is a drop-dead beautiful wine with an absolutely extraordinary nose of white flowers, blueberries, blackcurrants, licorice and camphor. Stunning forest floor notes also make an appearance in this ripe, full-bodied, opulent wine that is begging to be given a three-digit score. The silkiness of the tannins and the stunning purity of fruit of this unfined and unfiltered wine is simply breathtaking. This is just an incredible effort to drink now or over the next 30+ years. 2005 Sea Smoke "Southing" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Sea Smoke "Southing" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (95WE, 92WS, 91ST). Wine Enthusiast: "The most balanced of Sea Smoke’s three new Pinots, Southing was aged in about two-thirds new oak, which gives rich caramel, toasted coconut and exotic spice notes to the ripe fruit flavors. The wine explodes with cherries, raspberries, mulberries and even chocolate mint, finishing long and spicy, and leaving the impression of wholesomeness and completeness. Now showing its peak of youthful vivacity, this should develop for an additional six years." (12/2007)

2013 Maybach "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Maybach "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are roughly 600 cases of the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Materium, all of which comes from the Weitz Vineyard on the eastern Vaca Mountain hillside of Oakville at an elevation of about 1,000 feet above the Silverado Trail. This is shallow soil interspersed with loads of pebbles and stones. This wine is incredible first-growth material – a magical Cabernet Sauvignon with an opaque purple color, an extraordinary nose of blackberry and cassis, white flowers, crushed rock and minerality followed by a full-bodied majestic mouthfeel with phenomenal balance, purity and overall equilibrium. Stunningly rich and impressive, this wine will hit its peak in 8-10 years and has the potential to last 40-50 years. For those who keep track of such things, the wine was completely aged in 100% new Darnajou and Taransaud barrels. (RP)" (10/2015)

Full body with phenomenal detail featuring delicate but intense blackberry, espresso, toasted oak, caramel and dark chocolate. Cedar and sweet tobacco. Finesse all over. The wine of the vintage? Everything is there. Great energy. Best in 2018." (05/2014)

2014 Outpost "True Vineyard" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2014 Outpost "True Vineyard" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The limited-production 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon True Vineyard (475 cases) is also 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in 90% new French oak. This is an amazing 2014 and one of the few perfect wines that I could find while tasting at the top addresses in Northern California. Blue/purple in color, with extraordinarily intense floral notes intermixed with blueberry, blackberry, crushed charcoal and camphor, the wine hits the palate with a spectacular display of glycerin, fruit, sweet tannin, adequate acidity, and wonderful equilibrium and purity. The finish was close to a minute. This wine is irresistible, although it is certainly capable of lasting three decades or more. Kudos to the Dotzlers and Thomas Rivers Brown for this magnificent achievement! (RP)" (10/2016)

2013 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100DC, 100JS, 100RP, 100VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Dominus is, to my way of thinking, one of the most profound wines Christian Moueix has yet made in his rather brilliant winemaking history, both in France and in Napa Valley. This wine, with very low yields of only 3,500 cases and a final blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, offers up notes of cedar wood, forest floor, loamy soil and oodles of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. Very opaque purple in color, super-pure and intense, this wine has low acidity, but ripe, noticeable tannins. This is a 30- to 40-year wine and a profound effort from this famous vineyard in Yountville. Drink it over the next 40+ years. (RP)" (10/2015)

1997 Philip Togni Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 1997 Philip Togni Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (98RP, 98VN, 92ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon has to be one of the great buys left for profound Napa Cabernet. He’s done the aging for you, and of course the wine is still an adolescent in terms of aging potential. Brilliant notes of cedar, spice box, cassis, smoke, and licorice soar from the glass, as if this wine were pretending to be a first-growth Pauillac. Full-bodied, powerful, still with a boatload of tannin to resolve, and just a faint lightening of the dense purple color at the rim, this is a brilliant wine from a vintage that produced relatively quick-evolving wines, but no such thing is tolerated at Philip Togni. This is a great Cabernet Sauvignon with the exuberance, purity, and richness of fruit that Napa provides, but with a Bordeaux structure that Togni, with his Bordeaux upbringing, somehow builds into the wine. This wine will continue to drink well

2004 Sloan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Sloan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 98RP, 96WS, 92VN) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Sloan’s spectacular inky/purple/garnet color is followed by notes of high quality espresso roast, chocolate, black currants, truffles and a striking minerality. Full-bodied and super-rich with that roasted character that one finds in Cote Rotie and some of the great Haut-Brions from Pessac-Leognan, this full-bodied, rich 2004 is a super-star of the vintage. Although the tannins are elevated, they are extremely sweet and well-integrated. This spectacular 2004 is performing even better now than it did following bottling. It is also one of the more developed and evolved vintages of Sloan, no doubt because that was the nature of the 2004 vintage. Drink it now and over the next two decades. (RP)" (04/2014)

2001 Spottswoode "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Spottswoode "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 94VN, 93JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Production fell back to about 4,300 cases in 2001, which was a fabulous growing season in Napa Valley and from the get-go heralded as a profound vintage. Certainly Spottswoode hit all cylinders with its blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, and the first in a series of wines from them that eclipsed 14% alcohol (this one is 14.1%). Still dense purple to the rim, the wine is a young adolescent, with beautiful floral notes intermixed with deep crème de cassis, blackberry and blueberry Hints of licorice and graphite also present in this full-bodied, multilayered, magnificent and majestic Cabernet Sauvignon that is shaping up to be a great classic. There is at least 25-30 years of tasty longevity left in this large-scale Spottswoode that still seems to have a vague resemblance to Château Margaux. Bravo! 98+ points. (ST)" (08/2016)

1974 Concannon Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 8-bottle lot of 1974 Concannon Cabernet Sauvignon . It doesn't get any better, vintage wise, than 1974 in California. The wines, many of which are still very much alive and strong today, are tremendous examples of the old style of California winemaking, before everything was uniformly ripe and alcoholic and extracted as can be. Concannon has been kicking around since 1883 and their Cabernet bona fides are strong. This is a great example of California Cab from the classic Judgement of Paris era.

Bid on this bottle of 2014 Schrader "Beckstoffer Las Piedras, LPV" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 97JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon LPV is from clone 337 from the Las Piedras Vineyard in St. Helena. This shows Mission Haut-Brion-like characteristics as it has in the past, with crushed rock, wet gravel, scorched earth, blackberry and blueberry fruit. It is clearly one of my favorites of this entire tasting. It has 14.5% natural alcohol and was aged in 90% new Darnajou and 10% new Taransaud barrels. This is a killer effort. (RP)" (10/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 2009 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (98RP, 97JS, 97WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Simply put, the 2009 James Berry Vineyard is one of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted from California, or anywhere for that matter. Bright, floral aromatics lead to expressive red fruit in this impossibly elegant, dazzling wine. A melange of rose petals, mint and licorice follows as the James Berry shows off its breathtaking clarity and finesse. Fine-grained, chalky tannins frame the exceptional finish. Frankly, I am surprised this is the first wine of the tasting. Where does one go from here? (AG)" (08/2011)

2010 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (95RP, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard is a slightly tighter style of Pinot Noir, and lighter than the 2009. There is more acidity showing through, the fruit offering up various red and black fruits from pomegranate to plum to cassis, dark sweet cherries as well as foresty underbrush notes. It is developing quickly, without the intensity of flavor of the 2009. Anticipated maturity: now-2025. (RP)" (08/2015)

A huge, massive wine with abundant black and blue fruits intermixed with licorice, camphor, graphite and spicy background oak, this chewy, unfined/unfiltered Petite Sirah should be forgotten for 4-5 years, and drunk over the following 2+ decades. 2013 Sine Qua Non "Female" California Grenache
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Sine Qua Non "Female" California Grenache (98RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Manfred's 2013 Grenache Female checks in as a blend of 78% Grenache, 19% Syrah and 3% Mourvèdre that is mostly from his Eleven Confessions estate vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills, yet has smaller portions from his Cumulus, The Third Twin and Bien Nacido vineyards. Seeing just over 24 months in a mix of demi-muids, 300-liter Hog Heads and barrique, it has a sensational bouquet of spring flowers, black raspberries, black cherries, violets, licorice and camphor. Reminding me of a great vintage of Raymond Usseglio's Cuvée Imperiale, this full-bodied, elegant Grenache is impeccably balanced, has a full and layered mid-palate (which is missing from just about every other Grenache made in California), and sweet tannin on the finish. It's almost impervious to air and didn't budge an inch over the three days I followed this bottle. It will cruise for over two decades. (JD)" (08/20
