Of the 2012 Saxum "Broken Stones" Paso Robles Rhône Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2012 Syrah Broken Stones is a beauty. Made from 79% Syrah, 7% Petite Sirah and the rest Grenache, Mourvedre and Roussanne, it offers up full-bodied, decadent, yet incredibly pure notes of creme de cassis, smoked earth, pepper and violets. Seamless and silky, yet with a great mid-palate and notable tannin, it needs 2-3 years of bottle age and will have 15 years or more of overall longevity. (JD)" (08/2015)

1979 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 1979 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (93VN, 91WS, 90RP). Vinous: "The 1979 Opus One emerges from the glass with pine, menthol, sweet red cherries, tobacco, dried flowers and savory herbs. Deceptively medium in body, the 1979 packs a serious punch on the palate, where it still has fabulous depth and remarkable vigor for a wine of its age. Sweet, silky tannins frame the gorgeous finish. What a great start to this tasting. Any remaining bottles need to be enjoyed now, but the 1979 remains superb. Tim Mondavi describes 1979 as a fairly normal year, with a little more rain than normal. The blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc and 4% Merlot. (AG)" (06/2013)

Deep, concentrated, full-bodied notes of white currants, lemon oil, apple blossom, white peach and honeysuckle are all present in this beautiful wine that will drink nicely for the next seven or so years. Peppery, slightly high-toned aromas of raspberry and nutty oak, with hints of exotic fruits. Supple on entry, then rather closed in the middle, with a distinctive flavor of fruity peppercorn. Finishes dry-edged and pungent. An intriguing style, but not for those who expect a mouthful of fresh berries from their Zinfandels. (ST)" (06/2008)

2006 Rhys "Swan Terrace - Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2006 Rhys "Swan Terrace - Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (93BH, 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Outstanding* A notably ripe nose that has a menthol and cranberry liqueur character plus a subtle touch of crushed herb that can also be found on the rich, full, naturally sweet and admirably detailed middle weight flavors underpinned by a fire core of ripe tannins and fine length. At present this is youthfully austere and will require 4 to 6 years to really display fully of what it's ultimately capable. Impressive. The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards made from biodynamically farmed fruit and the Alesia wines (made from carefully selected purchased fruit - see above) are made by Alpine Road Winery, which is the pet project of owner Kevin Harvey and winemaker Jason Jardine. I toured the vineyards located in the Santa Cruz Mountains and they are indeed spectacular and if you have the chance to visit, I highly recommend it..." (10/2008)

2005 Carter "Beckstoffer-To Kalon Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Carter "Beckstoffer-To Kalon Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 95WS, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine just has it all - floral notes, crème de cassis, minerality and graphite in what could be a Napa-hypothetical blend of the best of Bordeaux's Margaux and Pauillac appellations. This is a magical site. (Nearly any capable winemaker producing wine from there has proven that time after time.) This is a killer effort - young and fresh, with at least 20 years upside to it. Pushing perfection, it is still a young wine that, like the Coliseum Block, tastes like it's two or three years old, rather than ten. Give it another 3-4 years, and drink it over the following 25+ years. 98+ Points (RP)" (05/2015)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Lagier Meredith Mount Veeder Syrah (96W&S, 94RP, 94WS). Wine & Spirits: "Carol Meredith and Steve Lagier grow Syrah in the hills southwest of Yountville, 2010 marking their thirteenth release of the wine. It’s also one of the best, if, by that, you mean how distinctly the wine reflects its origins. The scent is the essence of California, the scent of undergrowth, ferns and bay in the surrounding redwood forests, the brisk red fruit dynamited out of the tannins. When wines are this identifiable-and this delicious-they strengthen the case for New World terroir expression. Check it out." (04/2013)

A profound blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, it offers gorgeous smoky, black cherry liqueur aromas mixed with melted fudge. The wine is unctuously-textured, super-concentrated, low in acidity, rich, and multilayered. This is a spectacular, hedonistic effort to drink over the next 15-20 years." (12/2000)

2009 Calera "Ryan" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Calera "Ryan" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir (94W&S, 93RP, 92BH, 92VN, 90WE). Wine & Spirits: "The vines in the upper block of Ryan, rising to 2,500 feet, are just settling in. Jim Ryan, Calera’s vineyard manager, planted it in 1998 at a higher density than Calera’s other sites, most of which date to 1975. At first, this wine appears to be a big, extracted fruit bomb until, hours later, the tannins begin to breathe and the texture broadens, the fruit filling in the tannins on the sides of the mouth. A day later, the tannins and fruit have merged back into the middle of the wine, focused on dark, mineral intensity, on scents of smoke and earth, carrying plenty of extract within a Pinot Noir frame. While this may seem like a stylistic departure for Calera, it could also be read as a youthful interpretation of the Mount Harlan site. It’s formidable and delicious in any case, especially if decanted for roast duck. " (06/2012)

1987 Joseph Phelps Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1987 Joseph Phelps Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Joseph Phelps Vineyards was founded in 1972 and the winery was just getting into their stride during the vintages of the 1980s. Things change with time and many won't remember that back in the 1980's there wasn't the same gap in quality between the regular Cabernet Sauvignon and the premium Insignia label. Also, none of the wines were produced in the large numbers seen today and the quality must was available to produce stunning wines across the board at Phelps. This was not just at Phelps, but many of the workaday wines from those legacy producers in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s are exceptionally good by today's standards. The quality wines produced by Phelps and his competitiors are what put California Cabernet on the map - elegant, with lots of fruit and a solid core of firm tannin. Cabernets from this era were certainly built for the long haul.

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Rivers-Marie Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (93VN). Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is juicy, delicious and extroverted, with striking purity and energy in its fruit. Succulent dark cherry, plum, spice and blueberry flesh out effortlessly. This is an especially forward, juicy Pinot that will drink well upon release. Most importantly, the Sonoma Coast is absolutely delicious. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Atticus John Sebastiano Vineyard is stunning. Loaded with fruit and a big, voluptuous, textured effort, it has tons of black raspberry, black cherry, violets, leather and baking spices aromas and flavors. These come together beautifully on the palate and it has sensational depth and richness through the mid-palate while always staying lively, elegant and seamless. 1987 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1987 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (93RP, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1987 Reserve is a worthy competitor to the terrific 1986. The 1987's dark ruby/garnet color is followed by a super bouquet. There are huge aromas of chocolate, spicy new oak, herbs, cassis and tobacco in this beautifully scented wine. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, voluptuous, spicy, and crammed with fruit, glycerin, and enough tannin to support 15-16 years of cellaring. Like the 1986, the tannins are soft, and, fortunately, the acids are not shrill enough to prevent immediate drinkability. This is a skillfully made, complex Cabernet Sauvignon that will not linger long on retailers' shelves. (RP)" (10/1993)

2013 Nine Suns "Houyi Vineyard" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2013 Nine Suns "Houyi Vineyard" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (96RP, 93VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Much more tightly knit, structured, and built for the long haul is the 2013 Proprietary Red, which is a 600-case blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Malbec, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot. The ceiling on this wine is probably higher than the 2012, but it needs another 2-4 years of bottle age. Opaque purple in color, with hints of white chocolate, black truffle, sweet crème de cassis and blackberry fruit as well as a touch of wood smoke, this wine has great richness, an extraordinary, singular personality, and a fabulous finish of close to 50+ seconds. Kudos to the Chang family and winemaker Sam Kaplan for turning out two profound wines from Pritchard Hill. Ample, rich and dramatic in the glass, the 2012 is all about power and intensity. This explosive Pinot from volcanic soils is explosive from start to finish. The 2012 was aged in 60% new oak, all of which it handled with grace. 94+ points. ohn and Lorraine Alban have done a magnificent job with their 2012s. I tasted both wines just after they had been bottled, but that did not seem to be too much of an issue. The 2012 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are both terrific, but perhaps more importantly, they represent a significant step up from the 2011s, which suggests North has a bright future. Bid on this bottle of 2001 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 93CG, 93W&S, 93WE, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Caymus has been around for so long there is a tendency to under-estimate their wines. However, they have a brilliant track record as evidenced by the decade old 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintage Selection. Abundant chocolaty, black currant, licorice and coffee aromas soar from the glass of this perfumed wine. It exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color, wonderful opulence, a deep, full-bodied mouthfeel, fabulous depth and not a hard edge to be found. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "The Duel" Sta. Rita Hills Grenache (97RP, 95ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sine Qua Non’s 2008 Grenache Estate The Duel boasts extraordinary richness, power and sheer depth. Tobacco, leather, mint and spices are woven together in this large-scaled Grenache. There is plenty of intensity here, but the 2008 has just a touch less aromatic definition than the very finest wines at Sine Qua Non. I imagine some of that may be the result of extended aging in oak. The 2008 is 82% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 2% Viognier and 1% Roussanne, all from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard in Santa Rita Hills. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2014 Ridge "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (96VN). Vinous: "The 2014 Monte Bello is bright, precise and finely sculpted throughout, with a slightly more reddish leaning flavor profile than is found in some of the surrounding vintages. In 2014, Monte Bello is built on bright, pulsating acidity and energy. Relative to recent vintages such as 2012, 2013 and 2015, the 2014 is a bit compact and tightly wound. The slightly nervous style is likely to require at least a decade to be fully appreciated. In 2014, the blend is more typical of Monte Bello than the Cabernet-dominated 2013, with a greater role for Merlot and other complementary grapes. The only real issue with the 2014 is that it is sandwiched between two truly epic vintages. (AG)" (07/2016)

Honeysuckle, tangerine, apricot, and crème brulee literally jump from the glass A vivid, exotic wine, the 2010 is constantly changing in the glass. Stylistically, the 2010 is a little richer than Mount Eden fans are used to, but all the elements are in the right place. The 2010 verges on the edge of tropical aromas and flavors that are quite rare for young Mount Eden Chardonnays. Ideally, the 2010 is best left alone for a few years to allow some of the baby fat to drop off. I imagine it will always be a bit on the exotic side. I remain convinced the Mount Eden Pinot Noir Estate and Chardonnay Reserve are among the greatest wines being made in California today. As usual, the Mount Eden Chardonnay spends about ten months in oak prior to being bottled, while the Reserve gets an additional six or so months in tank. Mount Eden fan

Remarkably, the wine matches the perfect 2013, with extraordinary fragrance of blueberry, blackberry, forest floor, truffle, spring flowers and background barbecue smoke followed by a thick, unctuously textured, juicy, but incredibly well-balanced, intense wine. This is built like a skyscraper with enormous quantities of blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit, well-integrated acidity and sweet, gentle tannins. This is an extraordinary effort from Maybach that can be drunk now or cellared for up to 30 or more years. (RP)" (10/2016)

1985 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1985 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In some tastings this wine has been controversial because it was alleged to have a damp, woody, musty character. In the March tasting (my seventh look at this brilliant wine), I found it once again to be clean and hardly controversial - unless explosive richness and ripeness, as well as gobs of sweet fruit presented in a full-bodied, powerful style are objectionable. The wine was more developed and open than I expected. The mint/eucalyptus character, which can be extremely intense in the Martha's Vineyard cuvee, was presented in a subtle fashion. Expansive and chewy, with superb ripe fruit and concentration, this wine should continue to drink well for 10-20 years. (RP)" (04/1995)

2014 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2014 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The utterly perfect 2014 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon (1,500 cases) has everything one could possibly want in a Cabernet. Inky purple-colored to the rim, with a glorious nose of white flowers, crème de cassis, hints of blackberry and boysenberry, some licorice and forest floor are followed by an enormously concentrated wine with fabulous purity, a skyscraper-like mid-palate and texture, a length of nearly a minute, and stunning flavors, with flawless integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol. This is a great, great wine and certainly one of the Cabernet Sauvignons of this vintage. Drink it over the next 25-30 or more years. (RP)" (12/2016)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "The Duel" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah (99RP, 96VN, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A prodigious effort that possesses overflowing richness and depth, the 2008 Syrah The Duel (88% Syrah, 6% Grenache and 6% Viognier, all from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard) delivers an off-the-hook drinking experience with decadent cassis, blackberry, smoked meats, crushed flowers and hints of spice all soaring from the glass. A full-bodied, unctuous Syrah that stays fresh and elegant, with vibrant acidity, it needs a solid decant if drinking anytime soon and will see its 20th birthday in fine form. Drink now-2028. Bid on this bottle of 2009 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (98RP, 97WS, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard is a gorgeous, clearly California version of a grand cru from Burgundy, such as Clos Saint-Denis or Clos de la Roche. This deep plum/garnet-colored wine offers intense berry fruit along with forest floor, spice box, earth and loads of plum, cherry and strawberry notes, moving toward darker fruits, as well as earthy, autumnal, foresty scents. The wine is full-bodied, with great intensity, sweet tannins and good acidity. Drink it over the next decade or more. (RP)" (08/2015)

2013 Sine Qua Non "Female" California Grenache
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Sine Qua Non "Female" California Grenache (98RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Manfred's 2013 Grenache Female checks in as a blend of 78% Grenache, 19% Syrah and 3% Mourvèdre that is mostly from his Eleven Confessions estate vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills, yet has smaller portions from his Cumulus, The Third Twin and Bien Nacido vineyards. Seeing just over 24 months in a mix of demi-muids, 300-liter Hog Heads and barrique, it has a sensational bouquet of spring flowers, black raspberries, black cherries, violets, licorice and camphor. Reminding me of a great vintage of Raymond Usseglio's Cuvée Imperiale, this full-bodied, elegant Grenache is impeccably balanced, has a full and layered mid-palate (which is missing from just about every other Grenache made in California), and sweet tannin on the finish. It's almost impervious to air and didn't budge an inch over the three days I followed this bottle. It will cruise for over two decades. (JD)" (08/20

1984 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 1984 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, this is an age-worthy gem for any serious collector's cellar. Launched in 1984 with the dual release of the 1979 and 1980 vintages, this joint venture between Robert Mondavi and the Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Bordeaux's Mouton Rothschild, has been the standard-bearer in American ultra-premium wine for more than 20 years. The wine comes from three meticulously managed vineyards in Napa Valley where the grapes are hand-sorted and moved gently, by gravity, from the destemmer to stainless steel fermenting tanks. And since there is only one Opus One, each fermentation tank is dedicated to a single lot, allowing the wine to develop at its own pace, drawing color and extracting beautiful flavor.

2010 Saxum "Booker Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Saxum "Booker Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (98RP, 95VN, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Syrah Booker Vineyard - a blend of 81% Syrah and 19% Mourvedre - is about as textbook a representation of a Paso Robles Syrah as I can think of. Locked and loaded with notions of ripe black and blue fruits, smoke, bouquet garni, espresso, and licorice, it is unabashedly full-bodied, rich, and yet elegant on the palate. Showing real class, as well as first-rate freshness, superb depth and concentration, and masses of tannin, this blockbuster Syrah needs a solid 3-4 years of bottle age to flesh out, and will keep for 15-20 years or more. A benchmark estate for California, Saxum, under the helm of superstar winemaker Justin Smith, continues to produce some of the most compelling, profound wines on the planet. While Smith’s wines are always full-flavored and intense, there has been a stylistic change over recent vintages, with the wines showing more

This opulent wine would be over-the-top except that it's balanced by crisp, lemony acidity, and somehow retains a tight core with a gravitational tug that keeps the richness focused. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Never disappointing, and usually one of the finest Petite Syrahs made in California, the 2006 Petite Sirah Hayne Vineyard once again hits on all cylinders. A blockbuster Petite Sirah, inky purple in color with a glorious nose of charcoal, black raspberry, blueberry, creme de cassis, licorice, and crushed rocks, it is very full-bodied, powerful, with sweet tannin, decent acidity, and a 45+-second finish. This is an infantile wine that will benefit from 5-7 years of bottle age and last 25-30+ years. (RP)" (12/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Rhys "Swan Terrace - Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (94BH, 94ST, (89-91RP)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale violet color. Drop-dead gorgeous aromas of raspberry, potpourri, Asian spices and minerals, with a strong undercurrent of white pepper and mocha; this smells like a Dujac Echezeaux, from a serious vintage. Sweet red and dark berry flavors display liqueur-like depth, tangy minerality giving the wine verve. The mineral note dominates the long, spicy finish, which echoes the red fruit and floral notes. It's hard to find this level of precision, depth and drive outside the high-rent districts of Chambolle. (ST)" (06/2009)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2014 Carter "Beckstoffer To Kalon - The O.G." Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97RP, 97VN, 95JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon The O.G. is clearly a 25- to 30-year wine. This is profound wine, opulent with loads of spice, pen ink, blackberry and cassis, forward aromatics with floral notes and forest floor. The wine has stunning concentration and a mouth-filling, savory, unctuosity. This is great stuff and delicious already. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Paul Lato "Cinematique - Larner Vineyard" Santa Ynez Valley Syrah (94RP, 91VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An elegant, silky effort that shows the prettier side to variety, the 2011 Syrah Cinematique Larner Vineyard (co-fermented with 7% Viognier) delivers a perfumed, elegant profile with sweet black raspberry, licorice, underbrush, crushed flower and hints of pepper all soaring from the glass. Showing the vintage elegance and weight profile, with medium to full body, it flows onto the palate with a seamless texture, good (not great) mid-palate concentration and fine tannin framing the finish. It should benefit from 1-2 years in the cellar and drink beautifully through 2023. Drink 2014-2023. Paul Lato continues to knock it out of the park and I can’t say enough about the quality coming from this estate. Across the board, the wines show classic, varietally correct profiles that always show finesse and elegance, yet back it up with layers of fruit a

Pahlmeyer-s wines, first made by Helen Turley, continue to go from strength to strength. This nearly fully mature 2003 possesses deep, rich black currant fruit notes intermixed with hints of white chocolate, spice box, flowers and subtle background oak. Of the 2013 Aubert "UV Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The rich, prodigious, full-bodied 2013 Pinot Noir UV, made from the Calera and Vosne-Romanée clones, is a denser, richer wine offering abundant notes of blueberries, blackberries, forest floor and strong hints of Asian hoisin sauce, dark fruits and forest floor. There are approximately 1,000 cases of this sensational Pinot, which Mark Aubert decanted 12 hours in advance of my visit. There is not a trace of new oak in this wine, which spent 10 months in 100% new barrels. Like all the 2013 Pinot Noirs, it has a decade or more of aging potential. (RP)" (12/2014)

It possesses a striking, intense, rocky minerality, an opaque purple color, and deep, beautiful aromas of camphor, spring flowers, blueberries and black raspberry fruit. 2012 Sine Qua Non "In the Abstract" California White Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2012 Sine Qua Non "In the Abstract" California White Blend (97RP, 95JS, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In the same league, the 2012 In The Abstract is a classic Sine Qua Non white blend of 37% Chardonnay, 31% Roussanne, 16% Petite Manseng and 16% Viognier. Coming from roughly equal parts Bien Nacido, Cumulus and Eleven Confessions vineyard, it spent just under 19 months in 48% used barrels (1-4 years old), 27% new French oak and the balance in concrete eggs. It sports a slightly darker color than the Chardonnay and offers up incredible notes of caramelized peaches, poached apples, white flowers and crushed rock that flow seamlessly to a full-bodied, decadent, yet classy and graceful feel on the palate.
