(8/2016) 92 points James Suckling: "A tarry and quite savory rendition of this bargain Barossa shiraz, it has a strong focus on ripe, soft blackberry flavored fruits, hints of plum cake and chocolate, this is one very satisfying wine and represents stunning value. 2013 Hentley Farm "The Beast" Single Block Shiraz Barossa Valley

95 points James Halliday: "Awesomely powerful, with a tsunami of sombre black fruits, licorice and tannins to match, overwhelm you the moment the wine enters the mouth. It is, of course, full-bodied, and doesn't have the fluid grace of the other Hentley Farm '13 Shirazs. It is indeed a beast, but will repay those who put their faith in the high quality corks used by Henley Farm." (3/2015) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Shiraz The Beast has an earthy/gamey nose with dried mulberries and preserved plums at the core, morphing into spice box, sandalwood and peppery notes. It's a fresh, vigourous red with anise, raspberry, squishy blackberries and wood spice notes ramping the appeal up high. It'll age but there's no real reason to wait." Tannin pulls the strings tight. Big end of town for the region, but done well." 93 points Wine & Spirits: "*Best Buy* Mark Kozned’s family were grapegrowers in the Caucasus before they emigrated after World War II. 1999 Chris Ringland Shiraz Barossa Range South Australia

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Chris Ringland (formerly known as Three Rivers Shiraz), is aged 42 months in 100% new French oak, and is rarely racked until bottling, represents an extraordinary expression of Barossa Shiraz. The intense 1999, released in 2004, demonstrates that this vintage is somewhat underrated after all the hype over 1998. From a vineyard planted in 1910, its inky/purple color is accompanied by aromas of lavender, lard, smoke, licorice, blackberries, cassis, espresso roast, chocolate, and pepper. 2015 Powell & Son "Steinert" Shiraz Barossa South Australia

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "97+ points. Coming from a small (two-hectare) single vineyard with more than 120-year-old vines in the Flaxman Valley area of Barossa’s cooler Eden Valley, the 2015 Steinert Shiraz offers a deep garnet-purple color and very pretty red currants, black cherries and black raspberries notes, with touches of pepper and spice box plus fleeting wafts of roses. The medium to full-bodied palate is seriously intense, delivering ripe red berry and spice layers with a very long, perfumed finish. 200 cases were made. (LPB)" (3/2017) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Rich and expressive, with a wild, fr ...Read More »

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Mitolo "Savitar" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia (94JH, (91-93RP), 92WS). James Halliday: "Medium purple-red; the complex bouquet has a quite different range of aromatics, with edges of game, leather and spice; the palate is once again true to the Mitolo style, with multi-layered dark berry fruits, and fine-grained tannins suggesting long maceration. Presented in one of those Dreadnought bottles." (03/2003)

2015 Powell & Son "Kraehe" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a tiny, one hectare, 110-year-old vineyard in Barossa Valley’s Marananga subregion, the 2015 Kraehe Shiraz (pronounced kray) has a deep garnet-purple color and profoundly scented nose of blackberry and blueberry preserves, dried plums and mulberries with salami and fertile earth undertones, plus hints of marmite toast, asphalt and licorice. The full-bodied palate packs in the flavor layers with the voluptuous fruit superbly framed by firm, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with epic length. Give this sexy Shiraz another 2-3 years ...Read More »

2015 Hentley Farm Shiraz Barossa Valley

95 points James Halliday: "Concentration of flavour and overall form and poise is quite incredible given that this isn't among the top-of-the-tree releases from the estate. This is where the wine drinker really is the winner. It's thick with flavour but remains buoyant, even jolly, with life. Tannin too shirks no issues whatsoever. Barossa at its best." (2/2016) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Intriguing, with a blend of smoke, cigar box, espresso and nutmeg notes swirling around a dense core of cassis, plum and blackberry flavors. The elements mingle and linger on the detailed finish. (MW)" (7/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep garnet ...Read More »
