2013 Kay Brothers "Hillside" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia (Elsewhere $55)

95 points James Halliday: "Open-fermented, basket-pressed, matured for 18 months in American and Balkan oak. This is a distillation of all things McLaren Vale shiraz, a poached plum, blackberry and dark chocolate ragout, softly, but insistently, painting every corner of the mouth, the masterstroke the mouthwatering tannins simultaneously freshening and lengthening the finish. Drink this, cellar its big brothers." 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet in color, the 2013 Hillside Shiraz has a lovely, somewhat coy nose of red currants, black plums and kirsch with suggestions of chocolate box, incense, Provence ...Read More »

2013 Yalumba "Triangle Block" Shiraz-Viognier Eden Valley South Australia (Elsewhere $18)

93 points Wine & Spirits: "A modern take on an old-fashioned style of Eden Valley Shiraz, this is bold in flavor but not at all massive - more about stamina and grace than density and weight. Its flavors of red currants, jasmine and tar have forthright power, a zesty blast of Shiraz spice that leaves a clean, fresh taste in its wake. This performs far above its price, a wine to buy by the case and enjoy this winter into spring." (2/2017) 90 points Vinous: "Deep, lurid ruby. Ripe dark berries, cherry pit and a hint of licorice on the smoke-tinged nose and in the mouth. Shows good depth and gentle sweet ...Read More »

It offers wonderful purity, plenty of stuffing, toasty espresso notes from new oak barrels, admirable intensity, and a tremendous finish. Drink it over the next decade. Former winemakers Sarah and Sparky Marquis have left Shirvington and the wine is now being made by Kim Johnston. Little has changed, although the 2004s appear to be more streamlined and delicate than their 2003 and 2002 counterparts." (10/2005) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark purple. 2003 Mitolo "Reiver" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia

95-99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Shiraz Reiver is a 100% Shiraz from the Greenock region of Barossa cropped at 1.2 tons of fruit per acre, and aged 18 months in primarily new French barrels and small foudres. Winemaker Ben Glaetzer has fashioned an opaque purple-colored offering displaying a gorgeous bouquet of crushed rocks, violets, and blueberries that is reminiscent of the prodigious 1990 St.-Emilion, Beausejour-Duffau. It possesses a terrific texture, impressive purity, a long finish, and atypically low alcohol (14%) for such ripeness and intensity. 2013 Hentley Farm "The Beast" Single Block Shiraz Barossa Valley

95 points James Halliday: "Awesomely powerful, with a tsunami of sombre black fruits, licorice and tannins to match, overwhelm you the moment the wine enters the mouth. It is, of course, full-bodied, and doesn't have the fluid grace of the other Hentley Farm '13 Shirazs. It is indeed a beast, but will repay those who put their faith in the high quality corks used by Henley Farm." (3/2015) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Shiraz The Beast has an earthy/gamey nose with dried mulberries and preserved plums at the core, morphing into spice box, sandalwood and peppery notes. Full-bod ...Read More »

1982 Penfolds "Grange" Shiraz South Australia
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Penfolds "Grange" Shiraz South Australia (97JS, 94RP, 92WS). James Suckling: " I drank this coveted bottle the other night in Bangkok, just before holding the first edition there of Great Wines of Italy back in December. There was such density and balance to this monumental shiraz with an oily chocolate and dried fruit character. It was full-bodied with broad length and ravishing beauty. Liquorice and aniseed came through on the aftertaste along with chocolate. A vintage of Grange to remember for many years to come! " (06/2016)

1995 Penfolds "Grange" Shiraz South Australia
Bid on this bottle of 1995 Penfolds "Grange" Shiraz South Australia (97WS, 96W&S, 95JH, 92RP, 92ST). Wine Spectator: "A massive wine, majestic in its proportions, combining power and grace in equal measure. Flavors of plum, blackberry, chocolate and pepper, with hints of cedar, licorice and mint, swirl through the exotic finish. Tannins swarm but don't overwhelm the finish, which echoes all day and night. Best from 2004 through 2020. (HS)" (12/2000)
