2015 Domaine des Remizières Crozes-Hermitage

Domaine des Remizières comprises fourth-generation winemakers and growers, currently managed by Phillipe Desmeures, his daughter Emilie and son Christophe. They have expanded to 30 ha with vineyards in Crozes-Hermitage, St-Joseph and Hermitage. The basic Crozes-Hermitage comes from the hills of Crozes, on clay-limestone soils with bits of galets (stones) scattered throughout the vineyards. They use 100% destemmed Syrah grapes, then age in large oak casks. About as close to a pure expression of Syrah one could hope to find from this often-overlooked wine ... Read More »

2014 K Vintners "Milbrandt" Wahluke Slope Syrah Top Pick!
2014 K Vintners "Milbrandt" Wahluke Slope Syrah

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Probably the greatest vintage of this cuvee to date, the 2014 Syrah Milbrandt Vineyard is 100% Syrah, fermented with 100% whole clusters, that spent 15 months in 20% new French oak barrels and puncheons. This beauty is overflowing with notes of cassis, caramelized meats, licorice and spice, which gives way to a full-bodied, concentrated, superbly textured Syrah that can be enjoyed today, or cellared for a decade. These latest releases from Charles Smith check in at the top of the pyramid and are flat out incredible wines that I wish every reader could t ...Read More »

2014 Andrew Murray "Tous les Jours" Santa Ynez Valley Syrah

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Showing incredible depth for such an affordable wine, Andrew Murray does it again with this widely available bottling. The gamy nose shows lamb, rosemary, uncracked peppercorns, light tobacco leaf, soy sauce and a touch of tar. Purple flowers rule the palate, with lavender, violet and blossoming rosemary notes, with thyme and white pepper spicing up boysenberry fruit. (MK)" (7/2016) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Syrah Tous les Jours is a total charmer and checks in as 100% Syrah from a bevy of Santa Ynez vineyards (all are within five miles of the winery). 2015 Cave de Tain Syrah Collines Rhodaniennes (Previously $12)

From the leading producer of "cru" wines in Northern Rhône, this deep and supple wine displays seductive aromas of blackberry, currant and baking spice, with a hint of licorice. Wine Advocate praised the producer: "I continue to consider Cave de Tain to be one of the best co-ops in the world, and they make a bevy of truly outstanding wines. This is in part, I’m sure, due to their incredible, state of the art cellar/winery that is located on the outskirts of Tain l’Hermitage. In addition, they have a terrific vineyard management and winemaking team." (11/... Read More »

2015 Ferraton Père et Fils "Les Calendes" Crozes-Hermitage (Pre-Arrival)

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better than the La Matiniere cuvée, the 2015 Crozes Hermitage Les Calendes (100% Syrah, destemmed and aged in concrete) offers lots of graphite and minerality, as well as full-bodied richness, a thick, unctuous texture, present tannin and a great finish. Again, the value here is about as good as it gets. At the moment, all of the Crozes Hermitage releases share a lot of similarities, but I’m sure they’ll show more singular characters with additional time in barrel. 2014 Torbreck "Woodcutter's" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia

93 points James Halliday: "It struts its stuff in most impressive fashion; black berried fruits, anise, wood spice, all served sweet and voluptuous, with fresh red berries as the icing." (8/2016) 92 points James Suckling: "A tarry and quite savory rendition of this bargain Barossa shiraz, it has a strong focus on ripe, soft blackberry flavored fruits, hints of plum cake and chocolate, this is one very satisfying wine and represents stunning value. 2013 Holus Bolus Sta. Rita Hills Syrah

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "#6 on Top 100 *Best of 2016, Editors' Choice* Though this bottling is Peter Hunken's least-expensive Syrah, it gives his single-vineyard expressions a serious run for the money for best of vintage. Amazing aromas of chipped asphalt, smoked beef, dense boysenberry, soy, cedar, sandalwood and soy drop into a palate of peppery berry juice, beef jerky, underripe blackberry and elderberry, and pepper-crusted teriyaki beef. Slightly more expensive than the l’Eglantine, the 2015 Côte Rôtie Lieu Dit Montmain (100% Syrah aged in 15% new French oak) is also full-bodied and impressively concentrated, with notes of acacia flowers, toasted spices, black raspberries and brioche. 2015 Clos de la Bonnette Syrah Vieilles Vignes Collines Rhodannienes

Domaine Clos de la Bonnette was purchased in 1992 by wife and husband team, Isabelle Guiller and Henri Montabonnet. Isabelle had her eye on this abandoned vineyard site for many years before they moved forward. The main reason that the site remained unoccupied was because the hillsides were in complete disarray, as many of the stone retaining walls had collapsed over the decades due to neglect. Restoring this property could only be done as a labor of love, not a commercial venture. Henri did most of the restoration himself, rebuilding the walls by hand.... Read More »

Tannins ease in and frame the finish. Drink now through 2029" (11/2016) Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star* Unbridled ripeness simply steals the scene here, and, if the wine is undeniably rich, it is far more directed by chocolate and sweet oak than by specific Syrah spice. A blend of cooler (Watch Hill Vineyard in Los Alamos) and warmer vineyard (sustainably farmed Harrison-Clarke Vineyard) fruit.

2013 Stolpman "Originals" Ballard Canyon Syrah

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What's becoming the flagship Syrah for the estate, the 2013 Syrah Originals Estate comes from the original planting of the estate from 1992. It offers more texture, depth, richness and elegance over the Estate Syrah and possesses beautiful notes of creme de cassis, barbecue smoke, crushed pepper and violets. Medium to full-bodied, ripe and textured, yet always pure and balanced, it will have a decade of longevity. (JD)" (6/2015) 92 points Vinous: "The 2013 Syrah Originals is developing into a highly appealing wine. Time in bottle has brought out a level of refinement the 201 ...Read More »

2012 Copain "Hawk's Butte" Yorkville Highlands Syrah (Previously $55)

94 points Vinous: "Dense, meaty and powerful to the core, the 2013 Syrah Hawkes Butte is a wine built on structure. The contours are a bit angular, but there is nevertheless plenty of depth, resonance and pure power. This is one of the more massive wines in the range, but there is quite a bit to admire in the wine's dark, mysterious personality. The 50% whole clusters are nearly buried by the intensity of the fruit and firm tannins that need at least a year or two to soften. I was quite taken with the wines I tasted from Copain and proprietor Wells Guthrie this year. The T ...Read More »

2014 Hentley Farm "The Beauty" Single Block Shiraz Barossa Valley

95 points James Halliday: "Size, shape, power and length; there's a lot crammed into this package, and yet at no point does it suggest being overdone. It's a fresh, vigourous red with anise, raspberry, squishy blackberries and wood spice notes ramping the appeal up high. It'll age but there's no real reason to wait." (3/2016) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Impressive, with bold wild blueberry, kirsch and blackberry flavors that are powerful and persistent, pure and focused. Earth, sage and white pepper accents show on the long, velvety finish. (MW)" (7/2016) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Shiraz / Viognier The Beauty has a medium to dee ...Read More »

2014 Domaine des Remizières "Cuvée Emilie" Hermitage

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Coming primarily from the sites of Grandes Vignes and Rocoules, and brought up in 100% new French oak, the 2014 Hermitage Cuvee Emilie sports a deep purple color as well as gorgeous notes of cassis, scorched earth, campfire, bouquet garni and crème brûlée. Possessing full-bodied richness, moderate, yet sweet tannin and no hard edges, it will benefit from a year or two of bottle age and have 10-15 years of prime drinking. It’s a terrific 2014 that’s up with the top wines in the vintage. (JD)" (9/2016) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Very inviting, with aromas and flavors of warm raspberry ...Read More »

2015 Vincent Paris "La Geynale" Cornas (Pre-Arrival)

95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Cornas La Geynale comes from the oldest vines of the estate and the lieux-dits of Reynard and La Genale, all steep, granite terroirs. This cuvée, which is never destemmed, is aged in older barrels. It's certainly the most classic in style, with more pepper, game, olives and earth, yet still possesses the same purity, fruit and wealth of material found in these cuvées. Full-bodied, deep, concentrated, structured and perfectly balanced, it’s an incredibly complete wine that will need to be forgotten for 4-5 years, and will keep for 10-15 years. Br ...Read More »

2012 Qupé Santa Barbara County Syrah

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Plump boysenberry and dewy sagebrush meet with a touch of wet asphalt on the nose of this bottling by Bob Lindquist, whose pioneering brand is now part of Charles Banks' portfolio. Dark purple fruits, from blueberry to blackberry, show on the palate, but with refreshing tartness, as do more complex nuances of menthol, eucalyptus and incense. (MK)" (6/2016) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Reminding me of a quality St. Joseph from France's Northern Rhone valley, the 2012 Syrah Santa Barbara County (75% Bien Nacido Vineyard and 25% Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard) offers lots lot pepper, olive ta ...Read More »

2012 Alban "Reva" Edna Valley Syrah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Alban "Reva" Edna Valley Syrah (97RP, 95WS, 93VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 750 cases (which means good yields for John, although any normal person would call 1.5-1.75 tons per acre financial suicide) of the 2012 Syrah Reva Alban Estate Vineyard, and it's a terrific vintage for this cuvee. Elegant, pretty, even finesse driven, with its classic marine and salty bouquet of smoke, purple fruits, olives and violets, this full-bodied Syrah has no hard edges, integrated acidity and a great finish. It's reasonably approachable now, but deserves 2-4 years of cellaring ... (JD)" (08/2016)
