2014 Andrew Murray "Tous les Jours" Santa Ynez Valley Syrah

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Showing incredible depth for such an affordable wine, Andrew Murray does it again with this widely available bottling. The gamy nose shows lamb, rosemary, uncracked peppercorns, light tobacco leaf, soy sauce and a touch of tar. Purple flowers rule the palate, with lavender, violet and blossoming rosemary notes, with thyme and white pepper spicing up boysenberry fruit. (MK)" (7/2016) Wine Spectator: "Lively and zesty, with easygoing fruit, offering notes of raspberry, dark chocolate and smoky pepper. Drink now through 2023. 2008 Martinelli "Hop Camp Vineyard-Gravel Lens" Russian River Valley Syrah (Previously $65)

92 points Rhone Report: "The 2008 Martinelli Syrah Hop Camp Vineyard "Gravel Lens" (Grave lens refers to the rare soil characteristic of alluvial soil layers interleaved with layers of gravel) is a big, beautifully fruited Syrah that possess touches of northern Rhone like qualities mainly on the nose. Blackberry, cracked pepper, mineral, and hints of chocolate all emerge, and this fleshes out over the evening and gains floral and violets characteristics, as well as notable complexity and a layered profile. 2013 Melville "Verna's" Santa Barbara County Syrah Top Pick!
2013 Melville "Verna's" Santa Barbara County Syrah

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is likely the last vintage from this vineyard, which the family winery seemingly mastered in this bottling. There's an underlying umami-driven smoked meat backbone to the nose that also shows bold cherry blossom, olallieberry, pepper, dried herbs and blackberry-soy sauce. The palate is complex yet doesn't overpower, with bits of purple flowers, blueberry, black pepper and menthol. (MK)" (12/2015) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another blockbuster is the 2013 Syrah Verna's, which comes from a vineyard located north of the Sta. Rita Hills, near Los Alamos. 2013 Beckmen "Estate Purisima Mountain" Ballard Canyon Syrah

94 points Vinous: "The 2013 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard boasts tremendous tension and explosive energy. Underlying veins of tannin and acidity, along with a drop of Viognier, give the 2013 much of its freshness. A rush of dark plums, black cherries, mocha, violets, cloves and licorice add nuance on the huge finish. This is a fabulous wine from Steve Beckmen. Steve Beckmen excels with deep, powerful wines. Beckmen's estate vineyards are in Los Olivos and on Purisima Mountain in Ballard Canyon. I was impressed with what I tasted this year. In particular, the 2013 Syrah ...Read More »

2013 Copain "Tous Ensemble" Mendocino County Syrah

A dollop of whole clusters adds gorgeous aromatic/savory overtones. Drink this juicy, lifted Syrah over the next few years. This is a terrific showing from Copain, not to mention a tremendous value. (AG)" (1/2015) Wine Spectator: "Offers lively acidity and a tight focus, with accents of cherry and cranberry plus spice and herb. Crushed stone notes underscore the dry tannins. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, textured and concentrated, it sill has remarkable purity and precision. Coming from the Sta. 2011 Qupé "Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard - K&L Selection" Edna Valley Syrah

Arguably the most popular of the co-branded wines with our staff last year was the 2010 version of this wine so it had a lot to live up to this year. The good news is the staff is every bit as excited about it this year and we hope that enthusiasm will rub off on you. Bob Lindquist was more than happy to work with us again this year and put together this 100% Syrah bottling from certified Demeter biodynamically grown vines in the cool Edna Valley Appellation. It's gives up tons of classic Cali Syrah notes of brambly blackberries, plums, licorice, violets and pepper herbs to go with a medium to full-bodied, plump, pure and straight-up delicious style on the palate. 2013 Hitching Post "Big Circle" Santa Barbara County Syrah

Frank Ostini's Hitching Post restaurant became a huge tourist destination after the movie Sideways, which afforded him the freedom to focus on his passion: making fun, easy-drinking, food-friendly wines. Though Pinot may be the star of his portfolio, and indeed of the Santa Barbara region, Syrah thrives in the cool, coastal climate. His Big Circle has both the racy acidity from a long, cool ripening season and the body and ripe fruit from all that brilliant California sunshine.

2013 DuMol "Jack Robert's Run" Sonoma Coast Syrah (Previously $75)

93-95 points Vinous: "The 2013 Syrah Jack Robert's Run Gregori Vineyard is quite a bit more floral and lifted in style than the Eddie's Patch. Rose petal, sweet red berries, mint and pomegranate are nicely delineated in the glass. Overall, the Jack Robert's is quite feminine and gracious in style. There is plenty to look forward to. I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted at DuMol this year. Winemaker Andy Smith is no longer at Larkmead and is now solely focused on DuMol, which can only be a good thing for these wines ... 2013 Stolpman "Estate" Ballard Canyon Syrah

92 points Vinous: "Stolpman's 2013 Syrah Estate is juicy and expressive, with plenty of Mediterranean herbs, dried flowers, black cherries and underbrush. A wine of real personality and character, the Estate captures the essence of what makes Ballard Canyon Syrahs so compelling; which is to say an interplay of dense fruit with expressive varietal aromatics. The Estate is made mostly from young vines, with about 50% whole clusters. This is my favorite of the Stolpman Syrahs. Qupé owner Bob Lindquist has been working in the Central Coast vineyards since 1975, while the winemaking trade in the area was still in its infancy. He worked for Jim Clendenen (who would later found Au Bon Climat) at Zaca Mesa Winery and founded Qupé in 1982. From the winery: "This full bodied red is made from grapes sourced from cool and warm climate vineyards. 2014 Tensley Santa Barbara County Syrah

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted as a barrel sample, the 2014 Syrah Santa Barbara is a sexy, sweetly fruited and voluptuous Syrah that offers up a rockin' bouquet of blueberry, blackberry, violets and pepper. It should drink nicely on release and over the following 5-6 years. Santa Barbara County’s Joey Tensley continues to make ripe, textured and voluptuous wines that deliver serious bang for the buck. The latest 2013s and 2014s are all outstanding. However, recent vintages are pushing on the sweetness level, and in a number of cases, there’s obvious residual sugar in the wines ...Read More »

2013 DuMol Russian River Valley Syrah

92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Led in the nose by a well-measured mix of mildly gamy spice, juicy, optimally ripe berries and fancy oak, this nicely composed Syrah is polished and pure in its fruit but never lacks for varietal authority. Its deep and very well-focused flavors tend to tighten after a deceptively open start, yet any limits that the wine seems to have are entirely the result of its youth, and there is no doubt at all about its long-term potential. We urge that it be set aside for no fewer than five years and anticipate continuing growth for another five or more after tha ...Read More »

Ripe, sexy and opulent, with no hard edges and a great finish, it's about as voluptuous and textured as Adam's wines get today. In keeping with this amazing year, it’s full-bodied, juicy, succulent, flamboyant, with blueberry and blackberry fruit galore, lots of glycerin and a massive mouthfeel, but no heaviness or astringency characterize this stunning wine. This should turn out to be a great, great Rhône Ranger when released in a year or so. 2006 Pride Mountain Sonoma County Syrah

93 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, detailed and concentrated, this is tight, focused and full-bodied, with an enticing mix of mineral, wild cherry and black cherry fruit, picking up lots of spice, pepper and nutmeg scents that provide depth and length. Best from 2009 through 2016." (2/2009) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Two limited production offerings include the 2006 Syrah, a 600-case red offering floral and blackberry scents, medium to full body, sweet tannin, and a long, lush mouthfeel. It will provide pleasure over the next 4-5 years. (RP)" (12/2008) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium ruby. Superripe aromas of roasted raspberry, blu ...Read More »
