2013 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva (Elsewhere $50)

96 points Vinous: "96+: Fèlsina's 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia bristles with energy, with veins of underlying acidity that give the wine its focus and drive. Dark red cherry, plum, rose petal, herb and licorice are some of the signatures. Most of the Fèlsina Chianti Classicos are defined by their dark fruit and savory notes, but the Rancia is also wonderfully bright and lifted from start to finish while staying very much true to the house style. Today, the Rancia gives the impression it will unwind at a glacial pace. I imagine most bottles of the 2013 will be drunk ...Read More »

2015 Fratelli Barale Langhe Nebbiolo

These grapes come from a vineyard planted in 1975 in the commune of Monforte d'Alba, fermented in 50hl wooden casks for 10 days and then aged in 15-30hl French oak barrels for one year. The wine is a classic Old World style Nebbiolo, very light in color but exceptionally well adapted for meals — foods with a more woodsy (mushroom or truffle) character, or poultry.

Can age this, but delicious already. Better than the 2010." (2/2016) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Showing craftsmanship and care, the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a classic interpretation of Sangiovese from a warm vintage. This has been the #1 selling Italian wine for more than two decades at K&L! You can't get that kind of continued success without a supremely fantastic quality-to-price ratio. Incredibly priced bargains come out of the region, and the proof is in the bottle. This wine is wonderful, soft, forward and easy-to-drink Sangiovese with an enticing mixture of cherry, plum and earth. Eminently drinkable.

2016 Sesta di Sopra Sangiovese Toscana

Ettore Spina and his wife, Enrica Bandirola, owners of Sesta di Sopra, planted a new vineyard to Sangiovese in 2005. It has the same Galestro soils as the others, perfect for taming Sangiovese's natural vigor. Unfortunately, in Montalcino all of the Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino vineyards are all registered and controlled, and they aren't allowing any more to be added right now, so the wine that comes from this new vineyard has to be designated an IGT (Indicates Geographic Tipicity). Wine Spectator: "This easy-drinking red is light- to medium-bodied and balanced, offering a creamy mix of crushed cherry, mocha and cream notes. (AN)" (2/2017) K&L Notes: A distinctive style of wine from Valpolicella in the Veneto, often referred to as the poor man's Amarone. Rather than making wine from dried grapes, as they do Amarone, Rispasso uses an ancient technique where a wine is refermented with the skins and pips of pressed Amarone or Recioto, adding depth and character. 2016 Silvano Follador Prosecco Brut Nature Top Pick!
2016 Silvano Follador Prosecco Brut Nature

Vinous: "Silvano Follador is in my opinion the single best producer of Prosecco today. (Ian D'Agata)" K&L Notes: Just a note to clear up some nomenclature issues with this brand: Silvano Follador has added an extra word to their label, "Nature." It means that the finished wine has less than 3 grams per liter of residual sugar, even though their wines are Brut, and Brut can be decidedly higher. Nature is a designation that is more definitive. Most Prosecco is Extra Dry and that is 12-20 grams per liter which could go from dry-ish to outright sweet. Follador is looking to dista... Read More »
