2014 Antinori "Tignanello" Toscana Top Pick!
2014 Antinori "Tignanello" Toscana

94 points James Suckling: "Really pretty aromas of currants and roses follow through to a medium body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Very well done for 2014 and a wonderful Tignanello to drink now or later. Better in 2019." (8/2017) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tignanello has this amazing ability of always being, well, Tignanello. Its very DNA makes it among the most distinctive and recognizable wines in the world. I'm happy to report that this is also the case for the 2014 Tignanello that faced very different growing conditions compared to most. The wine is beautiful and balanced with sweet tannin ...Read More »

2013 Parusso "Bussia" Barolo (Pre-Arrival)

97 points James Suckling: "This is one of the greatest wines I have ever had from here. So much ripe cherry, raspberry and floral character. Medium body, super-refined tannins and a long and flavorful finish. So much going on here. Better in 2021." (7/2017) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Barolo Bussia is my favorite wine among Marco Parusso's new releases. This wine shows an extraordinary level of richness and softness that speaks to the unique winemaking style proposed by this innovative producer. The Bussia cru tends to produce softer and finer fruit characteristics. The bouquet delivers elegant notes ...Read More »

2011 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana

95 points James Suckling: "The blackberry, currant, nutmeg and chocolate aromas follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and lots of savory fruit. Some balsamic and citrus fruit underneath it all. Needs a little time to soften. Pure Sangiovese. From organically grown grapes. Better in 2016." (9/2014) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Flaccianello della Pieve is 100% Sangiovese aged 24 months in new French oak and two months in large oak cask. I’m not sure how Fontodi does it, but this edition of Flaccianello is simply beautiful. It is a seamless expression with lingering tones of red cherry, coff ...Read More »

2007 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella Top Pick!
2007 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is an impressive wine built to last. Bertani does a great job of presenting the purity of the wine's fruit, its territory and its tradition. The Amarone is not overbuilt or too muscular. Instead, it walks with small, poised footsteps that carry it long and wide. The bouquet shows classic notes of dried fruit, toasted almond, resin, cola and grilled herb. I would not suggest serving this bottle for at least 24 months. 2013 Aldo Conterno "Bussia" Barolo

Medium body and well-defined tannins. Drink in 2020." (7/2017) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aldo Conterno’s Barolo Bussia is produced from five hectares of prime vineyards in Bussia Soprano, the original section of what has become a rather large vineyard in recent years. Vines average 35-40 years old, with no vines younger than 20 years old. After a long fermentation, the wine is aged for 27 months in 25 HL casks. Aromatically precise and finely sculpted, the 2013 possesses superb balance. In 2013, the Cannubi is all class. This is one of the most refined and gracious of Chiara Boschis' 2013 Barolos and a very typical wine for the vintage. In a word: terrific! 2015 Fattoria Le Pupille "Saffredi" Maremma Toscana (Pre-Arrival)

99 points James Suckling: "James Suckling's # 9 Wine of 2017: I love the currant and rosemary character of this wine. Some sage, too. Complex aromas that draw you in. Full body, extremely tight and chewy with a long and intense finish. The tannins are fantastic - so polished. Focused and beautiful. Mineral undertone with ash and hot stone highlighting the dark fruits. It goes on for minutes. Needs three or four years to come together. But a serious red all the way. *Ranked #9 on Top 100 of 2017*" (8/2017) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Saffredi is a sultry and velvety wine from the Tuscan Coast. 96 points James Suckling: "I like the ripe-fruit and smoked-meat aromas to this. Subtle and complex. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and chewy finish. Needs time to soften. Very structured for the vintage." (11/2016) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Valdicava represents its own school within the greater Brunello philosophy. (11/2016) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Tarry smoke and grilled herb notes herald this dense, full-bodied red, along with details of ground coffee, blackberry pâte de fruit, dark chocolate shavings and ground pink peppercorn. Better in 2020." (3/2016) 95 points Vinous: "The 2012 Barolo Cannubi is super-finessed, open-knit and gracious, with striking aromatic lift and plenty of precision. Bright red stone fruit, chalk and white pepper give the 2012 its distinctive aromatic signatures. Soft tannins and exceptional balance add to the wine's considerable appeal. 2012 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva 1.5L

94 points Vinous: "94+: A ripe, powerful wine, the 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia offers a level of finesse that balances some of the more overt intensity of the year. Dark cherry, plum, spice, tobacco, menthol and licorice add shades of nuance as this beautifully delineated Rancia opens up in the glass. Because of its mid-weight structure, I expect the 2012 will give up its charms relatively early by Rancia standards, which means around age 15-20. The 2012 is not an obvious or explosive Rancia, rather is a wine built on compelling overall harmony." (9/2015) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Full-bodie ...Read More »

Broad swaths of tannin support the vibrant, youthful flavors in a captivating, breathtaking wine of the highest level. (AG)" (1/2017) 97 points James Suckling: "This is complex and fascinating. 2010 Azelia "San Rocco" Barolo (Pre-Arrival)

A big, explosive wine, the 2010 blossoms in the glass with layers of deep, expressive fruit. The San Rocco is usually a wine of volume and breadth, at it is again in 2010. The firm Serralunga tannins are present, but they are also beautifully balanced. I can't wait to see how the 2010 develops. Today, the San Rocco is young, young, young. (AG)" (1/2014)

2008 Francesco Rinaldi "Cannubbio" Barolo

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Barolo Cannubbio exhibits all of the classic notes typically found in wines from this site. Sweet, open floral notes lead to tobacco, leather, anise and spices as this gorgeous Barolo shows off its class. There is more than enough fruit to balance the tannins, but the 2008 remains tight and in need of further cellaring. Still, there is so much to admire in this classy, mid-weight Barolo. 2012 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana

97 points Vinous: "The 2012 Flaccianello della Pieve, a selection of the estate's best fruit, presents a darker, more virile expression of Sangiovese. Here, too, the purity of the flavors is truly striking. Cinnamon, cloves, new leather, licorice and plums are some of the notes that soar from the glass. The 2012 is full-bodied and voluptuous, in classic Flaccianello style, but the new French oak is much better integrated than it often is at this stage, the result of a move to lower toast levels over the last few years. (2/2012) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "An intense and opulent Brunello, with bold brush strokes of ripe cherry, blackberry, chocolate, coffee and mocha. 2004 Oddero "Rocche di Castiglione" Barolo

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate’s 2004 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a dark wine loaded with black cherries, menthol and sweet spices in the focused, sinewy style that is the hallmark of this bottling. Today the wine comes across as quite primary, but the tannins are refined, and my impression is that the only thing this needs is bottle age. The wine’s richness and depth are commendable. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. (AG)" (10/2008) K&L Notes: One of my favorite Barolo wineries, Oddero is a traditionalist and makes wines of classic style. 2009 Isole e Olena "Cepparello" Toscana

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Cepparello is gorgeous. It brings together the radiance and ripeness of a warmer year with the medium-bodied structure of a cooler vintage. Today the 2009 is a bit reticent and appears headed for a period of dormancy. From time to time hints of its ultimate potential come through in attractive layers of dark red fruit. The rich, textured finish bodes well for the future. Paolo De Marchi describes 2009 as a year with a cold spring and a hot summer that also brought hail in early August. The 2011 Bolle di Borro Metodo Classico Brut is a Rosé sparkler made with Sangiovese. The wine opens to a pale pink color and exhibits aromas of white cherry and wild berry. (11/2010) 97 points Vinous: "The 2007 Ornellaia is a wine of texture above all else. What the 2007 lacks in aromatic intensity it more than makes up for with its sumptuous, generous personality. Sweet red berries, mocha, flowers, new leather and spices are some of the many notes that are layered in this sumptuous, totally beautiful wine. The 2009 stands out for its silky tannins and phenomenal overall balance. This is one of those wines that will probably enjoy a long drinking window. Creamy and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2013 speaks to finesse more than the power and explosiveness that is often found here. With time in the glass, the mid-palate fleshes out and the flavors gain in intensity and darkness. 1971 Luigi Einaudi Barolo
Bid on this bottle of 1971 Luigi Einaudi Barolo. It all began in 1897, when 23-year-old Luigi Einaudi (who was to become Italy’s first President in 1948) purchased the first of the Einaudi estates (Poderi) at San Giacomo, near Dogliani, heart of Dolcetto country. Here, Professor Einaudi resided in-between his academic work and the numerous activities as a financial writer and journalist. In spite of the magnitude and multiplicity of his interests, Luigi Einaudi personally implemented the finest, most up-to-date wine cultivation methods and equipment. This is alive and kicking after more than 40 years in the bottle!
