2012 Cantine Ascheri Barolo

94 points Wine Spectator: "Licorice, cherry and tar notes mark this intense, chewy red, packed with sweet fruit midpalate that offsets the dense, dusty tannins. Shows fine integration and length, with the aftertaste echoing licorice, cherry, tar and mineral details. Best from 2019 through 2035." (7/2016) 92 points James Suckling: "A red with lots of ripe fruit such as plum, strawberry and leather both on the nose and palate. Full body, velvety tannins and a fresh finish. Drink or hold." 2009 Sergio Barale Bussia" Barolo Riserva

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Barolo Bussia Sergio Barale delivers even richer fruit with obvious aromas of prune, plum and dark berry. Polished tannins, firm and tight, are backed by thick fruit padding and fresh acidity that will help navigate the trappings of cellar aging. One of the oldest estates in the Langhe, Fratelli Barale was founded in 1870, shortly after the Barolo denomination was created with the help of Marchesi Falletti and founding father of modern Italy, Count of Cavour, Camillo Benso. 2011 Agostino Bosco "La Serra" Barolo

93 points James Suckling: "There's pretty balance and minerality to this spicy, finely textured and ripe wine. Full to medium body, fine tannins and a bright finish. This small producer continues to rock it." (4/2015) 92 points Vinous: "Agostino Bosco's 2011 Barolo La Serra is a terrific example of this high-altitude La Morra site. Specifically, the piercing veins of tannin that are such a signature of La Serra are very much in evidence. Red cherry, white pepper and chalk add to the wine's sculpted personality. 2008 Francesco Rinaldi "Le Brunate" Barolo

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Barolo Le Brunate is quite a bit richer, deeper and more powerful than the Cannubbio, as one might reasonably expect. Here the fruit boasts tons of pure resonance and stuffing while never losing its essential classicism. Plums, black cherries, leather, tar and licorice meld together, supported by firm yet beautifully integrated tannins. The 2008 Brunate is an explosive wine just waiting to emerge. Silky, open-knit and gracious, the 2012 is surprisingly delicious today. This is a decidedly mid-weight, approachable Barolo that is already quite open and delicious. Best of all, the 2012 won't need years to come together. Mascarello fans should buy the 2012 to drink over the near and medium-term, while some of the more structured vintages age in the cellar. Crushed flowers, dark red berries, mint, and crushed rocks are some of the signatures. So many 2012s are open-knit, but Grasso's Gavarini is going to need at least several years in barrel. Dark red cherry, plum, cloves, new leather, rose petal and mint notes are all wonderfully alive and delineated. The Tre Tine is a blend of fruit from Ravera, Cannubi-San Lorenzo and Le Coste, all in the town of Barolo. In the warm 2011 vintage, the significant presence of fruit from Ravera, a high-altitude site, gives the Tre Tine its sense of freshness and linear energy. The Brunate is a bit richer and creamier, but today, I have a slight preference for the Tre Tine, as it is fresher ...Read More »

1997 Giacomo Conterno "Monfortino" Barolo Riserva

99 points Vinous: "The 1997 Monfortino is served and all conversation suddenly stops as we taste the wine. Breathtaking aromatics leave the room rapt with attention. You can hear a pin drop. Just as thrilling on the palate, the 1997 is utterly captivating from the very first taste. The 1997 is exotic, full-bodied and viscerally thrilling to the core. What a wine! Tasted from magnum. (Antonio Galloni)" (1/2006) 96 points Wine Spectator: "The standard-bearer for Barolo. Medium-dark ruby-garnet. Rose petals, mushroom and slightly cooked red fruit. Some earth. Full-bodied, with big, caressing tannins. Thi ...Read More »

2011 Aldo Conterno "Colonnello" Barolo

94 points James Suckling: "Wonderful richness and balance here with plum, dried strawberry and light Spanish cedar character. Full body, fine tannins and a clean finish. Try in 2018." (4/2015) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Barolo Bussia Colonnello shows a compelling level of brawn and heft. This is an elaborate vinous patchwork with dark fruit nuances backed by ethereal tones of balsam herb and licorice. The wine is sturdy, compact and extremely well-constructed. It takes a few minutes to open, but once it does Barolo Bussia Colonnello bursts forth with blackberry, plum, spice and rum cake. Menthol tone ...Read More »

2011 Aldo Conterno "Cicala" Barolo

96 points James Suckling: "A chewy and rich Barolo with dried mushroom, berry and hazelnut character. Full body, round and silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Layered and complex. Better in 2018 but so delicious." (4/2015) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Barolo Bussia Cicala shows a slightly warmer side to the Bussia cru, although in general I am very impressed with how this single vineyard has performed. You get subtle wood influences here, but the quality of fruit is on prime display. Black cherry, cassis and wild berry lift graciously from the bouquet. Heavier aromas of spice, resin and blac ...Read More »

2004 Ceretto Bricco Rocche "Bricco Rocche" Barolo

96 points Wine Spectator: "This is very raisiny, almost meaty, with an ultrarich nose. Full-bodied, showing sultana and dried flowers on the palate, with chewy tannins. Very long and powerful on the finish. Almost Port-like. Hints of vanilla and sultana. A top Bricco Rocche. Best after 2012." (6/2008) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This excellent Barolo from Ceretto’s Bricco Rocche estate represents a perfect marriage between grape and winemaking. The integrity of the fruit is there--plush, round, intense--and is supported by oak-driven notes of vanilla, cinnamon, cigar box and ground ginger. In the mouth, it tas ...Read More »

2007 Aldo Conterno Barolo "Cicala" 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

96 points James Suckling: "This is stunning, with licorice, flowers and dark fruits all over. Full and super silky and sexy. I am in love with this wine already. It will age for decades, but it is so in harmony and beautiful now. Gorgeous." (5/2011) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Scented with black cherry and plum, this international-style red shows plenty of smoky, toasty oak on the palate. It's rich, with sweet fruit, ample power and complexity, but will take some time to integrate the tannins. Best from 2016 through 2035. 300 cases imported. –BS" (4/2012) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Cicala is every bit as compelling as the ...Read More »

2001 Paolo Scavino "Carobric" Barolo (1.5L)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Barolo Carobric comes across as silky, perfumed and utterly impeccable. Sweet red berries, flowers and spices are woven together beautifully in this fragrant Barolo. Readers who enjoy more tertiary notes may want to cellar the 2001 for a few more years as the fruit is still quite primary, but the wine drink well today because of its textural finesse. The Carobric is a blend of fruit sourced from Rocche di Castiglione (60%), Bric del Fiasc (25%) and Cannubi (15%). Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026. (AG)" (4/2012) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Thick and rich with lots of plum, ber ...Read More »
