2012 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva 1.5L

94 points Vinous: "94+: A ripe, powerful wine, the 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia offers a level of finesse that balances some of the more overt intensity of the year. Dark cherry, plum, spice, tobacco, menthol and licorice add shades of nuance as this beautifully delineated Rancia opens up in the glass. Because of its mid-weight structure, I expect the 2012 will give up its charms relatively early by Rancia standards, which means around age 15-20. The 2012 is not an obvious or explosive Rancia, rather is a wine built on compelling overall harmony." (9/2015) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Full-bodie ...Read More »

2011 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L)

90 points James Suckling: "A compacted red with dried-cherry, toasted-oak and coffee-bean aroma and flavors. Full body with firm, silky tannins." (2/2016) Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe plum, game, truffle, leather and menthol are some of the aromas you'll find on this earthy wine. The tightly wound palate offers dried black cherry, chopped sage, mint and roasted coffee bean alongside raspy tannins that leave a mouth-drying finish. (KO)" (5/2016)

2015 Fattoria Le Pupille "Saffredi" Maremma Toscana (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

99 points James Suckling: "I love the currant and rosemary character of this wine. Some sage, too. Complex aromas that draw you in. Full body, extremely tight and chewy with a long and intense finish. The tannins are fantastic - so polished. Focused and beautiful. Mineral undertone with ash and hot stone highlighting the dark fruits. It goes on for minutes. Needs three or four years to come together. But a serious red all the way. *Ranked #9 on Top 100 of 2017*" (8/2017) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Saffredi is a sultry and velvety wine from the Tuscan Coast. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Me ...Read More »

2013 Tenuta Belguardo Maremma Toscana 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Wine Spectator: "A red of great purity and polish, offering black cherry, blackberry, spice and herb flavors, this evokes tobacco, graphite and leather nuances as it builds nicely on the palate. Finishes with grip, harmony and complexity, as well as terrific length. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2028. From Italy. B.S." (5/2017)

2004 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2004 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (92RP, 92WE, 3GR). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "La Fortuna’s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is especially beautiful in this vintage. The wine is remarkable for its density, richness and concentration, all of which have been achieved while maintaining clarity and freshness. The French oak is beautifully integrated in this sumptuous, generous Brunello. Suggestions of flowers and spices add notes of brightness on the finish. The Brunello spent a whopping 40 months in 25-hectoliter medium-sized casks prior to being bottled. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. (AG)" (06/2009)

2012 La Massa "Giorgio Primo" Toscana 1.5L

95 points James Suckling: "Beautiful, complex aromas of blueberry, blackberry and black licorice follow through to a full body, ultra-refined tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Give this a few years in the bottle to completely come together. Better in 2016." (11/2016) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made with Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%) and Petit Verdot (5%), the impeccable 2012 Giorgo Primo is attractive from every angle. In a recent past vintage, I had criticized this wine for being over the top, but Giampaolo Motta has refined his winemaking approach to better harness the elegance and fines ...Read More »

2015 Petrolo "Galatrona" Toscana (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

99 points James Suckling: "Terrific aromas of violets, roses and raspberries with hints of strawberries and brown sugar. Full body. Phenomenal layers of focused fruit and polished velvety tannins. This is the Galatrona that everyone has been waiting for. It's the vintage that shows depth and power yet wonderful finesse and focus. Best ever. Drink from 2023 but already electrifying. *Ranked #2 on Top 100 of 2017*" (8/2017) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Galatrona is one of the best Merlots made in Italy (definitely in the top five) and this vintage keeps the banner flying high. 2013 Le Macchiole "Messorio" Bolgheri (1.5L)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Messorio is a truly divine creation that puts Merlot on a well-deserved pedestal. This is a complete wine that accurately doses out its intensity and persistence with stopwatch precision. Dark fruit, blackberry, spice, leather, tar and tobacco are folded together into a homogeneous whole. The wine is supported by finely integrated tannins with lovely dark fruit flavors and beautifully plush textural richness. Thanks to the vintage warmth, the 2013 vintage is similar to 2011. But this current release presents a more delineated sense of freshness ...Read More »

94 points James Suckling: "Aromas of cream, light toffee, mushrooms and plums follow through to a full body, silky tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Very tannic yet the tannins are ripe and polished. Try in 2021." (1/2017) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Aromatic, displaying rose, strawberry, cherry and currant flavors, accented by leather, tobacco, iron and tea notes. Firm tannins lay a base of support. Best from 2022 through 2040.-B.S." (3/2017)

2007 Aldo Conterno Barolo "Cicala" 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

96 points James Suckling: "This is stunning, with licorice, flowers and dark fruits all over. Full and super silky and sexy. I am in love with this wine already. It will age for decades, but it is so in harmony and beautiful now. Gorgeous." (5/2011) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Scented with black cherry and plum, this international-style red shows plenty of smoky, toasty oak on the palate. It's rich, with sweet fruit, ample power and complexity, but will take some time to integrate the tannins. Best from 2016 through 2035. 300 cases imported. –BS" (4/2012) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Cicala is every bit as compelling as the ...Read More »

1971 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Vinous: "The bottle, which I purchased at the estate recently, is remarkable itself. At Mascarello the 1.9 liter format was used prior to 1980. The bottle is covered by a layer of dust. There is no label per se, just the numbers “71” written on the bottle in chalk. An index card with the estate's information is tied and secured to the bottle with a wax seal. The cork is also covered with wax. Following Mascarello's suggestion, the wine was stored upright for several weeks prior to opening. The wine was decanted immediately prior to serving. Needless to say it was ...Read More »

2014 San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

92-93 points James Suckling: "Extremely aromatic with black currant, strawberry and cherry. Some rosemary. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a gorgeous finish. Bright acidity. It came from all the hillside vineyards. This shows lovely potential and balance. Delicate and fine. Much better than anticipated considering the cool and wet growing season in Tuscany." (11/2016) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is my official review of the 2014 Bolgheri Sassicaia after having been graciously invited to the estate for various barrel samples spanning back several years. I have watched the evolution of this wine with a close ...Read More »

1964 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo Riserva (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

93 points Vinous: "I had never tasted Bruno Giacosa’s 1964 Barolo Riserva Speciale. It was a very beautiful, delicate Barolo with pretty notes of mint, anise, licorice and beef bouillon. It showed greater structure and power than the Bartolo Mascarello that followed. Unfortunately this wine was never better than when it was first opened. With time it lost some of its freshness and sheer sexiness. Bartolo Mascarello’s 1964 Barolo (1.9 liter magnum) was the exact opposite. Initially quite funky and rustic, it needed several hours of air to open up. When it did, it was a fant ...Read More »

1961 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo Riserva (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Vinous: "The 1961 Barolo from Cantina Mascarello (magnum) was masculine, powerful and impressively rich for a wine of this vintage, while the 1958 Barolo (magnum) fared less well. The 1958 can be a legendary wine, but on this night the wine was exceedingly evolved. 2014 Bruno Rocca "Rabaja" Barbaresco 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Vinous: "Rocca's 2014 Barbaresco Rabajà captures an attractive stylistic middle ground between the depth that is typical of this site and the more vibrant, energetic style that is the house signature of the Bruno Rocca wines today. A classically austere, tannic wine, the 2014 is going to need a number of years to come together. Today, the 2014 is an intensely saline, focused wine." (10/2017)

2013 Cavallotto "Bricco Boschis" Barolo 1.5L New!
2013 Cavallotto "Bricco Boschis" Barolo 1.5L

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "96+ Cavallotto is on a roll with some very impressive new releases. The 2013 Barolo Bricco Boschis is a tremendous effort that has an edge on the excellent 2010 vintage in my view. The wine shows a beautifully exuberant but elegant bouquet with the ethereal and undertone fruit and spice aromas you get with Nebbiolo. Although the wine is never overdone, it does show silky persistence and a long finish that comes from the noble nature of the tannins and the wine's textural finesse. Yet, it is playfully deceiving in a way because behind that polished grace, ...Read More »

2012 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (OWC)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2012 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (OWC - 95RP, 93JS, 93VN, 93WE, 92WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Il Poggione is a Brunello superstar and a vintage like this reveals every reason why that affirmation is true. From the second the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino pours into the glass, you know you are in for something special. The wine is darkly saturated and rich in appearance. Absent are those slightly amber or browning hues you often get with Sangiovese in a hot vintage. Nor does the wine show flat or tired characteristics. Instead, the quality of fruit is vibrant and rich. This is a healthy, generous and exuberant Brunello with dark density and succulent fruit flavors that are followed by integrated spice and tobacco. The balance is impressive and one thing you get here is fresh acidity. This is not to be underestimated, because the acidity quota in the 2012 vintage across the appellation is not as high or evident as usual. Thi

2013 Fontodi "Vigna del Sorbo" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Vinous: "98+: A vivid, expressive wine, Fontodi's 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is tremendous. That is the good news. The not so good news, if I can say that, is that the 2013 is likely to require a number of years before it can be truly appreciated, much less enjoyed. Vertical and explosive on the palate, the 2013 is a huge wine. Black cherry, plum, graphite, licorice and dark spices emerge over time, but only with great reluctance. Readers will have to be very patient with the 2013. A host of violet, lavender, menthol and dark spices wra ...Read More »
