2010 Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L)

96 points James Suckling: "Fabulous aromas of oranges, peaches and mahogany follow through to a full body with rich, chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. This is dense, tight, powerful, compressed and incredibly structured. Needs four to five years of bottle age to come out of its dormancy." (1/2015) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a ripe and fruit-forward expression that bursts with energy and red fruit intensity even at this young stage in the wine's life. Thick layers of cherry, blackberry, cassis, vanilla and cinnamon give the wine a bold, opulent personality. The tann ...Read More »

2013 La Massa "La Massa" Toscana (1.5L)

93 points James Suckling: "A solid and chewy young red with dried blackberries, licorice and hints of toasted oak and walnuts. A full-bodied, energetic red from the Chianti Classico region of Panzano. Needs two to three years of bottle age. A blend of Sangivoese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante." (8/2015) 93 points Vinous: "A dark, sumptuous beauty, the 2013 La Massa opens with superb depth and textural richness. Inky blue/purplish fruit, smoke, white pepper and violets are all super-expressive. Pliant, concentrated and deep, the 2013 is shaping up to be a real beauty. I especially like the de ...Read More »

2010 Banfi Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L)

95 points James Suckling: "Fabulous aromas of dried rose petal, orange peel, oyster shell and hints of dark fruits. Full body, very fine tannins with a mineral, berry and orange-peel and Tuscan-dust undertone. A structured, salty, savory finish. Better in 2017." (1/2015) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Castello Banfi's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the ripest wines I have tasted from this vintage. The bouquet opens to chewy tones of cherry or raspberry preserves with dried prunes and figs at the back. This is no surprise considering the softly sloping, sea-facing vineyards located in the lower part of the ...Read More »

2008 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore (1.5L)

97 points James Suckling: "Impressive nose of dark truffles, milk chocolate and blackberries. Full bodied, with lots of licorice and blackberries and truffles. Very long and intense. Goes on for minutes. This is amazing and firm, with a racy character. Best after 2016." (8/2011) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Ornellaia continues to blossom in the bottle. Dark cherries, chocolate, espresso, blackberries and mocha are just some of the many notes that explode from the glass. A rich tapestry of licorice, tar and camphor notes develop in the glass, adding considerable complexity. The 2008 is a huge, structure ...Read More »

2011 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Barolo is a very expressive wine with more determination and muscle than you usually get in the wines of Bartolo Mascarello. The bouquet opens to plush flavors of red fruit and cherry with grilled herb, tobacco and mineral delineation. Its structure is yielding and round and the finish is ripe with soft fruit flavors. Make no mistake, it doles out complexity and an ethereal sense of balsam herb, cola and licorice that is the hallmark of this historic estate with a tiny garage winery in the town of Barolo. The alcohol reading here is 14.5% compar ...Read More »

2003 Roberto Voerzio "Capalot e delle Brunate" Barolo Riserva (1.5L)

94 points Vinous: "Leather, iron, smoke, black cherries, plums and menthol wrap around the palate in the 2003 Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate. A huge, hulking wine, the 2003 boasts tons of depth and pure volume. Although not quite as fresh as the Sarmassa, the Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate boasts striking intensity and more than enough depth to drink well for at least another handful of years. Iron, smoke and tobacco wrap around the pulsating finish. (AG)" (6/2014) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Loads of fresh, ripe strawberry on the nose, with lemony undertones. Full-bo ...Read More »

2010 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

95 points James Suckling: "A Brunello with so much forest floor, mushroom and dark fruits on then nose. Fascinating. It's full body, juicy and savory with a wonderful finish of dried meat, berry and dried mushroom. Drinking beautifully now but will age beautifully. Great value." 2011 Produttori del Barbaresco "Montestefano" Barbaresco Riserva 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "he 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is the biggest of the bunch. This wine delivers a lasting sense of structure and intensity that is especially apparent as this Barbaresco hits the palate. The bouquet exhibits signs of ripe fruit with soft layers of blackberry preserves and cherry liqueur. The wine's tannic structure is solid and firmly stitched together, yet this wine is slightly softer and perhaps sweeter than the Riserva Muncagota, for example. This is yet another wine destined for long bottle-aging. It's always a special year when the venerated ...Read More »

2011 Produttori del Barbaresco "Ovello" Barbaresco Riserva 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Vinous: "The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello, from one of the coolest zones in Barbaresco, is superb. Here it is the wine's precision and energy - both hard to come by in 2011 - that really stand out. Pine, mint, chalk, bright red berries, blood orange and white pepper are some of the signatures in a brilliant, finely-cut Barbaresco that captures the best of both the vintage and this site. Don't miss it! (AG)" (12/2015) 93 points Wine Spectator: "A peppery, spicy style, this displays cherry, eucalyptus, tar and black pepper aromas and flavors. Firmly tannic, yet with a core of concentrated sw ...Read More »

2006 Isole e Olena "Gran Selezione" Chianti Classico (1.5L) (Previously $400)

93 points Vinous: "Isole e Olena's 2006 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, a wine that was originally produced for home consumption, turned out to be the drawing board for the Gran Selezione. Cherry jam, earthiness, spices, mocha, sweet herbs and French oak all meld together in the glass. The 2006 is marked by a slightly oxidative note in its aromatics it has always shown - the result of having spent three and a half years in oak. Otherwise, the 2006 is exceptional. (AG)" (9/2015)

2007 Aldo Conterno Barolo "Cicala" 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

96 points James Suckling: "This is stunning, with licorice, flowers and dark fruits all over. Full and super silky and sexy. I am in love with this wine already. It will age for decades, but it is so in harmony and beautiful now. Gorgeous." (5/2011) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Scented with black cherry and plum, this international-style red shows plenty of smoky, toasty oak on the palate. It's rich, with sweet fruit, ample power and complexity, but will take some time to integrate the tannins. Best from 2016 through 2035. 300 cases imported. –BS" (4/2012) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Cicala is every bit as compelling as the ...Read More »

2000 Bruno Giacosa "Asili" Barbaresco Riserva (1.5L - some lightly torn labels)

98 points James Suckling: "The nose alone on this is reason enough to buy this. Rich and decadent with dried meats, dried mushrooms, ripe fruits, all tied together by flowers and a light cigar box character. The palate isn't bad either, loads of dried fruits, full-bodied and rich. Total decadence with a wild character. Makes me smile." (5/2012) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is as it always has been; impeccably refined, nuanced and silky from start to finish. I have tasted (or drunk!) this wine at least a dozen times since it was first released. The bouquet shows the faintest sig ...Read More »

1985 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Toscana (1.5L) (soiled label)

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full medium-red color. Pretty, floral aromas of raspberry, licorice, mocha, cedar and smoke. Lush but vinous, with nicely integrated acidity giving shape and grip to the flavors. Not a big wine but sappy, classy and precise. Finishes with very firm but fine tannins and lovely purity. (ST)" (9/2004) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Ornellaia (magnum) is big and full-bodied, with gorgeous complexity in its dark fruit, sweet cedar and spices. At nearly 25 years of age, the 1985 remains beautifully balanced. This is an exceptional wine, especially considering the vines were only thre ...Read More »

1990 Poderi Aldo Conterno "Granbussia" Barolo Riserva (1.5L)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Barolo Riserva Granbussia is a ripe, exotic beauty endowed with plenty of tar, roses, licorice and wild herbs. Still spectacularly rich and intense, this full-bodied, layered Barolo offers superb length and a sweeping finish where the glycerin and sheer weight of the vintage come through in spades. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. (AG)" (2/2010) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Rich and powerful but very elegant. Dark ruby color. 2001 Roberto Voerzio "Sarmassa" Barolo (1.5L) (nicked and lightly soiled label)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Barolo Sarmassa (magnum) flows onto the palate with crushed rose petals, truffles, spices and sweet herbs. It shows gorgeous mid-palate pliancy and depth through to the round, opulent finish. The Sarmassa has aged quite gracefully. There is more than enough rich, dark fruit to support another two decades of very fine drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2026. (AG)" (4/2012) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Round and very rich with blackberry, vanilla and chocolate character. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long finish. 100 points James Suckling: "Amazing young Brunello with superb concentration and depth. Full body, chewy yet polished tannins and mineral, oyster shell and blueberry flavors. Goes on for minutes. Leave it until 2020 to open. A triumph." (10/2015) 96 points Wine Spectator: "The sweet, ripe fruit has an immediate impact, offering notes of cherry, strawberry and currant, followed by light oak spice, leather, tobacco and earth accents. The tannins peek through on the finish, but overall this is balanced and long. So harmonious that you may want to enjoy now, but this should only get better with time. Best from 201 ...Read More »
