2011 Poggiarellino Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L)

90 points James Suckling: "A compacted red with dried-cherry, toasted-oak and coffee-bean aroma and flavors. Full body with firm, silky tannins." (2/2016) Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe plum, game, truffle, leather and menthol are some of the aromas you'll find on this earthy wine. The tightly wound palate offers dried black cherry, chopped sage, mint and roasted coffee bean alongside raspy tannins that leave a mouth-drying finish. (KO)" (5/2016)

2012 La Massa "Giorgio Primo" Toscana 1.5L

95 points James Suckling: "Beautiful, complex aromas of blueberry, blackberry and black licorice follow through to a full body, ultra-refined tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Give this a few years in the bottle to completely come together. Better in 2016." (11/2016) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made with Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%) and Petit Verdot (5%), the impeccable 2012 Giorgo Primo is attractive from every angle. In a recent past vintage, I had criticized this wine for being over the top, but Giampaolo Motta has refined his winemaking approach to better harness the elegance and fines ...Read More »

2015 Fattoria Le Pupille "Saffredi" Maremma Toscana (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

99 points James Suckling: "I love the currant and rosemary character of this wine. Some sage, too. Complex aromas that draw you in. Full body, extremely tight and chewy with a long and intense finish. The tannins are fantastic - so polished. Focused and beautiful. Mineral undertone with ash and hot stone highlighting the dark fruits. It goes on for minutes. Needs three or four years to come together. But a serious red all the way." (8/2017)

2012 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva 1.5L

94 points Vinous: "94+: A ripe, powerful wine, the 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia offers a level of finesse that balances some of the more overt intensity of the year. Dark cherry, plum, spice, tobacco, menthol and licorice add shades of nuance as this beautifully delineated Rancia opens up in the glass. Because of its mid-weight structure, I expect the 2012 will give up its charms relatively early by Rancia standards, which means around age 15-20. The 2012 is not an obvious or explosive Rancia, rather is a wine built on compelling overall harmony." (9/2015) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Full-bodie ...Read More »

2011 Rocca di Montegrossi "Geremia" 1.5L (Previously $100)

95 points Vinous: "The 2011 Geremia, the estate's Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend, offers tons of energy to balance its dark, inky fruit. Lavender, menthol, melted road tar, sage, crème de cassis and grilled herbs are some of the many signatures. The ripeness and raciness of the year come through in spades, yet there is an element of pulsating intensity in the glass that plays off the more overt elements nicely. This is another superb showing from Rocca di Montegrossi. (AG)" (9/2015) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A powerful red, this remains smooth in texture and focused, delivering plum, black cherry, s ...Read More »

2013 Le Macchiole "Messorio" Bolgheri (1.5L)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Messorio is a truly divine creation that puts Merlot on a well-deserved pedestal. This is a complete wine that accurately doses out its intensity and persistence with stopwatch precision. Dark fruit, blackberry, spice, leather, tar and tobacco are folded together into a homogeneous whole. The wine is supported by finely integrated tannins with lovely dark fruit flavors and beautifully plush textural richness. Thanks to the vintage warmth, the 2013 vintage is similar to 2011. But this current release presents a more delineated sense of freshness ...Read More »

1971 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Vinous: "The bottle, which I purchased at the estate recently, is remarkable itself. At Mascarello the 1.9 liter format was used prior to 1980. The bottle is covered by a layer of dust. There is no label per se, just the numbers “71” written on the bottle in chalk. An index card with the estate's information is tied and secured to the bottle with a wax seal. The cork is also covered with wax. Following Mascarello's suggestion, the wine was stored upright for several weeks prior to opening. The wine was decanted immediately prior to serving. Needless to say it was ...Read More »

2013 Einaudi "Cannubi" Barolo (1.5L)

94 points James Suckling: "Aromas of cream, light toffee, mushrooms and plums follow through to a full body, silky tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Very tannic yet the tannins are ripe and polished. Try in 2021." (1/2017) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Aromatic, displaying rose, strawberry, cherry and currant flavors, accented by leather, tobacco, iron and tea notes. Firm tannins lay a base of support. Best from 2022 through 2040.-B.S." (3/2017)

2014 San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

92-93 points James Suckling: "Extremely aromatic with black currant, strawberry and cherry. Some rosemary. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a gorgeous finish. Bright acidity. It came from all the hillside vineyards. This shows lovely potential and balance. Delicate and fine. Much better than anticipated considering the cool and wet growing season in Tuscany." (11/2016) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is my official review of the 2014 Bolgheri Sassicaia after having been graciously invited to the estate for various barrel samples spanning back several years. I have watched the evolution of this wine with a close ...Read More »

1961 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo Riserva (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Vinous: "The 1961 Barolo from Cantina Mascarello (magnum) was masculine, powerful and impressively rich for a wine of this vintage, while the 1958 Barolo (magnum) fared less well. The 1958 can be a legendary wine, but on this night the wine was exceedingly evolved." (7/2008) K&L Notes: The bottle is actually a 1.92L, we just don't have a built in size for this type of bottle!

2007 Aldo Conterno Barolo "Cicala" 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

96 points James Suckling: "This is stunning, with licorice, flowers and dark fruits all over. Full and super silky and sexy. I am in love with this wine already. It will age for decades, but it is so in harmony and beautiful now. Gorgeous." (5/2011) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Scented with black cherry and plum, this international-style red shows plenty of smoky, toasty oak on the palate. It's rich, with sweet fruit, ample power and complexity, but will take some time to integrate the tannins. Best from 2016 through 2035. 300 cases imported. –BS" (4/2012) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Cicala is every bit as compelling as the ...Read More »

2001 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona "Vigna di Pianrosso" Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The stylish, cask-aged 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso opens with a floral, aromatic nose followed by sweet, perfumed red fruit that blossoms onto the palate with notable expansiveness in a superb display of finesse and elegance, closing with fine, supple tannins. Though tempting to drink today, it will be even better in a few years and will drink well to age twenty. It is one of the vintage’s great wines. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2021. Bid on this magnum lot of 2003 Feudi di San Gregorio "Serpico" Aglianico Irpinia (1.5L) (OWC - 92RP, 91WE, 90WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 is a fascinating Serpico. The wine boasts impressive concentration in its dark, rich fruit. This is an incredibly primary Serpico, with little in the way of tertiary development. Ideally, it is best left alone for another few years, but readers fortunate enough to own this are in for a thrilling ride once the wine opens up a bit. Today it remains tightly coiled but full of potential. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. 92+ (AG)" (08/2010)

Bid on this magnum lot of 2012 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (OWC - 95RP, 93JS, 93VN, 93WE, 92WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Il Poggione is a Brunello superstar and a vintage like this reveals every reason why that affirmation is true. From the second the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino pours into the glass, you know you are in for something special. The wine is darkly saturated and rich in appearance. Absent are those slightly amber or browning hues you often get with Sangiovese in a hot vintage. Nor does the wine show flat or tired characteristics. Instead, the quality of fruit is vibrant and rich. This is a healthy, generous and exuberant Brunello with dark density and succulent fruit flavors that are followed by integrated spice and tobacco. The balance is impressive and one thing you get here is fresh acidity. This is not to be underestimated, because the acidity quota in the 2012 vintage across the appellation is not as high or evident as usual. Thi

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is a phenomenal achievement and a wine that captures not only the spirit of this classic vintage, but the true essence of an age-worthy wine like Brunello. This single vineyard Riserva is sharp, pristine and immaculate. It starts slow and shy, but then blossoms to beautiful intensity and aromatic brilliance. It delivers a very authentic and genuine read of Sangiovese with wild berry aromas followed by pressed violets, wet earth, tobacco and lightly toasted spice. The bouquet is seamless and very long in persistence. The same holds true for the mouthfeel. The wine delivers a fine and silky texture with a good dose of power and personality at the rear. 98+ (ML)" (03/2016)

1993 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 1993 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico (1.5L) (92VN). Vinous: "The 1993 Amarone is simply fabulous. The 1993 is the first wine in this tasting that is fully mature. Dark cherries, spices, menthol and licorice are just some of the aromas and flavors that emerge from this gorgeous, complex Amarone. The wine still maintains considerable body and richness, but the flavors are in the full tertiary stage, and there is no additional upside to be gained through additional cellaring. The 1993 is the last vintage to have been produced along traditional lines. Maceration on the skins lasted 45 days and the wine was subsequently aged for 36 months, predominantly in large, 80-hectoliter casks. (AG)" (04/2010)

1964 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo Riserva (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

93 points Vinous: "I had never tasted Bruno Giacosa’s 1964 Barolo Riserva Speciale. It was a very beautiful, delicate Barolo with pretty notes of mint, anise, licorice and beef bouillon. It showed greater structure and power than the Bartolo Mascarello that followed. Unfortunately this wine was never better than when it was first opened. With time it lost some of its freshness and sheer sexiness. Bartolo Mascarello’s 1964 Barolo (1.9 liter magnum) was the exact opposite. Initially quite funky and rustic, it needed several hours of air to open up. When it did, it was a fant ...Read More »
