Beautiful mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Savoury more than fruity at the moment and a little locked up on the nose. Yet it has a supple palate and not heavy at all. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Casanova di Neri "Tenuta Nuova" Brunello di Montalcino (100JS, 97WE, 95RP, 95VN, 95WS, 93ST). James Suckling: "So much ripe fruit here with currants and sultanas, yet fresh and very clean. Dark berries too. Incredible ripe Sangiovese character. Full body, with masses of fruit and chewy tan nins. Plus, there’s black licorice and dried berries. Give it time to soften. What a bottle. Will it ultimately be better than 2001 Tenuta Nuova? Yes. There is lovely definition to be found as this classic feeling, mid-weight Pajana opens up in the glass. Layers of ripe dark fruit, spices, flowers, licorice and minerals develop seamlessly through to the close. I am floored by the wine’s volume, depth and length. Wine Spectator: "There are plenty of cherry and plum flavors in this rich red, along with notes of bramble, spice and camphor. 2006 Pelissero "Vanotu" Barbaresco (3L) (OWC)
Bid on this 3L-bottle lot of 2006 Pelissero "Vanotu" Barbaresco (3L) (OWC - 94ST, 93RP) in original wood. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Aged for 22 months in new barriques . Deep red with ruby highlights. Distinctly blacker on the nose than the Tulin, with hints of black cherry, cassis, licorice, violet and spicy, smoky oak. Broad, silky and voluminous without coming across as heavy thanks to lift from the limestone in the soil. Not yet expressive in the middle palate, but there's serious ripeness and richness here and the major, oak-driven tannins are chewy and sweet. Pelissero took his time to harvest in 2006, and picked these vines late) the wine has a higher-than-normal pH of 3.55. Quite long on the aftertaste. This boasts the structure and complexity for an extended evolution in bottle, but today it's an infant. As impressive a Barbaresco as I've yet tasted from this producer. (ST)" (11/2009)
