2013 Bersano "Mantico" Barbaresco

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Subtle aromas of leafy underbrush, leather, truffle and red berry come together on this while the full-bodied palate delivers juicy red cherry, raspberry compote, baking spice and grilled herb. Chewy tannins provide the framework while a note of star anise closes the finish. (KO)" (10/2016) 90 points James Suckling: "This shows delicate aromas of rosemary with red licorice and dried berries. This is delicate and light-bodied with almost no tannins, good freshness and a nice, fruity finish. Really enjoyable. Drink now." (11/2016)

2013 Produttori del Barbaresco "Ovello" Barbaresco Riserva (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Vinous: "The Produttori's 2013 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is all power, tension and nerve. Even so, the 2013 is remarkably civilized and much less austere than young Ovello Barbarescos usually are. Scents of cranberry, white pepper and mint give the wine its signature high-toned aromatics. The Ovello has a Volnay-like purity to its fruit, with Nebbiolo tannins and structure, of course. If that sounds appealing, well, it is. Vivid, sculpted and impossibly beautiful, the Ovello is simply magnificent. (AG)" (10/2017) 95 points Wine Spectator: "This red starts out with bright cherry, strawberry, ...Read More »

2014 Gaja Barbaresco

96 points Vinous: "Gaja's 2014 Barbaresco is rich, super-dense, and inviting, with serious underpinnings of structure and the same classicism that made the 2013 so compelling. Dense and powerful in the glass, with explosive energy and tons of tannin, the 2014 is built for extended cellaring. Expressive floral and savory notes hover out of the glass in this super-expressive Barbaresco. This is one of the most tightly wound, intense versions of Gaja's Barbaresco I can remember tasting. Don't miss it." (10/2017) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2014 Barbaresco is beautiful and made in a fine, incredibly el ...Read More »

2013 Produttori del Barbaresco "Pora" Barbaresco Riserva (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Wine Spectator: "A rich, cherry- and floral-scented red, effusive in aroma, with the core of cherry prevailing on the palate. Though fleshy, this gives way to firm tannins that line the lingering aftertaste. Inviting and full of energy, so decant now or wait. (BS)" (5/2018) 94 points Vinous: "The 2013 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is soft, pliant and enveloping. In many vintages, the Pora can be a bit light. Not in 2013. The wine is rich and deeply textured, with layers of fruit that continue to build with time in the glass. The tannins are present, but they are nearly buried by the sheer intensit ...Read More »

2014 Bruno Rocca "Rabaja" Barbaresco

94 points Vinous: "Rocca's 2014 Barbaresco Rabajà captures an attractive stylistic middle ground between the depth that is typical of this site and the more vibrant, energetic style that is the house signature of the Bruno Rocca wines today. A classically austere, tannic wine, the 2014 is going to need a number of years to come together. Today, the 2014 is an intensely saline, focused wine. (AG)" (10/2017)

2014 Cascina Alberta "Giacone" Barbaresco

The firmly structured, elegant palate delivers juicy red cherry, raspberry compote, cinnamon and clove flavors in a matrix of tightly wound, polished tannins and bright acidity. A hint of star anise signals the close. *Editors' Choice* (KO)" (11/2017)

2013 Cantina del Pino "Albesani" Barbaresco

95 points Vinous: "Usually a rich, bombastic wine, the 2013 Barbaresco Albesani shows more finesse than I remember seeing in the past. There is plenty of the power that is so typical of this site, but at the same time, the 2013 is translucent, super-elegant and refined. Another few years in bottle will do wonders for the Albesani, which, despite its obvious appeal, is very tightly wound at this stage. A persistent, striking finish rounds things out in style. At this stage the Albesani is the most complete wine in the range. (AG)" (10/2017) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Light-weight yet intense, displayin ...Read More »

2013 Cantina del Pino "Gallina" Barbaresco

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Renato Vacca's 2013 Barbaresco Gallina shows a bright and luminous personality. This is a sharp and focused expression of Nebbiolo with linear aromas of wild berry, blue flower and licorice. The wine ages in oak for two years and sees another 18 months in bottle. I loved the silky and enduring nature of the finish. 94+(ML)" (4/2018) 94 points Vinous: "A generous, powerful wine, the 2013 Barbaresco Gallina exudes power and volume. Then changes to Japanese ginger and lemon peel. Full-bodied but refined and so long. It has layers of fruit and power. Decadent. Ripe and intense. Perfect balance and harmony. 1999 Albino Rocca "Vigneto Brich Ronchi" Barbaresco

Flavors lifted by a dried flower element. Finishes very long, with huge, tongue-dusting but fine tannins that arrive late. This too will require patience. 92(+?) points. 2013 SIlvia Rivella "Montestefano" Barbaresco

Guido Rivella had a multi-decade career as the winemaker for Angelo Gaja. Now retired, he and his daughter have a tiny estate in Barbaresco. This production of only three barrels comes from grapes harvested from 0.37 hectares of calcareous clay soil with a southern exposure. Fermentation and maceration occur in stainless steel tanks for 22-25 days at a controlled temperature. The wine is aged in wood for 14-18 months, then again in bottles for a few months before commercial release.

Awesome, the 1997 Barbaresco Vigneto Brich Ronchi is a tour de force in winemaking. Its dark plum/ruby color is accompanied by explosive blackberry/cherry fruit aromas. In the mouth, its viscous texture, low acidity, and overripe Nebbiolo characteristics provide remarkable intensity, and extraordinary flavor richness with notes of blackberries, cherries, coffee, smoke, licorice, and earth. Although there is a tendency to scoff at wines made by cooperatives, the quality of the wines from this superbly run operation is as high as that from any highly committed, passionate estate-bottler...The cooperative is quick to declassify any Barbaresco to a generic Nebbiolo if it is not of an acceptably high quality level...The Produttori del Barbaresco gets my vote as the best run and most committed cooperative regarding quality, and, most importantly for prospective purchasers, a source for exceptional Barbaresco wine values!"

1978 Ceretto "Brunate" Barolo
Bid on this bottle of 1978 Ceretto "Brunate" Barolo. Monica Larner offers this editorial on Ceretto: "Ceretto is a landmark estate and a world ambassador that has done much to teach Barolo appreciation around the world. Not only do they jealously safeguard their well-earned reputation for top-notch wines, but the various generations that have managed this historic winery understood sooner than most that the Langhe must also be developed to attract trouists. The various estates they own are adorned with massive projects of modern art and innovative buildings that make for irresistible touring destinations. As I write this report, I am looking out my window at the Ceretto glass “cube” that sits so regally on the crest of the Bricco Rocche cru above Castiglione Falletto. I have been taunted, nostalgically, each evening by the distant music and laughter emanating from that fascinating architectonic beacon of light and aspiration. Back to the wines: Ceretto is a brand of consistent high sco

1979 Giovannini Moresco "Pajoré" Barbaresco
Bid on this bottle of 1979 Giovannini Moresco "Pajoré" Barbaresco. Enrico Giovannini-Moresco occupies a special place in Barbaresco lore. In the 1960s and '70s, he was revered by local winemakers, not the least of whom was Angelo Gaja. Sheldon Wasserman, in his landmark book, "Italy’s Noble Red Wines", called the 1971 and 1979 the greatest Barbarescos of their vintages. In his 1991 book, published one month before he died at the age of 51, Wasserman described Moresco’s style of Barbaresco as, “a full-bodied, richly flavored wine of immense proportions, a fuller, more assertive style of Barbaresco”. Wasserman attributed this style to Moresco’s daring: “One of the major reasons for its bigness and intensity is that Moresco believed in harvesting late, waiting until the grapes were totally ripe, despite the obvious hazards, and also in limiting the size of his yields by severe pruning.” Such a philosophy was virtually unheard of in Barbaresco at that time and prestaged the great Barbaresc

2014 Bruno Rocca "Rabaja" Barbaresco 1.5L

94 points Vinous: "Rocca's 2014 Barbaresco Rabajà captures an attractive stylistic middle ground between the depth that is typical of this site and the more vibrant, energetic style that is the house signature of the Bruno Rocca wines today. A classically austere, tannic wine, the 2014 is going to need a number of years to come together. Today, the 2014 is an intensely saline, focused wine." (10/2017)

1996 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco

Gorgeous, ripe fruit and round body lead to a silky midpalate, with rose petal, roasted chestnut, plum, cherry and mineral complexity. Great balance, with firm but ripe tannins clamping down the finish. (PM)" (08/1999)

1979 Bruno Giacosa "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco
Bid on this bottle of 1979 Bruno Giacosa "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco. Antonio Galloni wrote the following after the passing of the legendary Bruno Giacosa: "With the passing of Bruno Giacosa the wine world loses a titan. Bruno Giacosa’s accomplishments during a career that spanned eight decades are almost too many to list. Giacosa leaves behind a rich, eternal legacy of brilliant wines and unforgettable memories for those lucky enough to have spent time with the Maestro of Nebbiolo. 2014 Silvia Rivella "Montestefano" Barbaresco

94 points Vinous: "The 2014 Barbaresco Montestefano is a striking wine. Blood orange, rosewater, mint, kirsch and exotic spice notes abound in a pliant, deeply expressive Barbaresco. Hints of French oak add nuance without overpowering the wine. Translucent, detailed and finessed, the Montestefano is a winner. The track record here is short, but the 2014 Barbaresco Montestefano is Silvia Rivella's most complete Barbaresco to date. (AG)" (10/2017)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Barbaresco Curra Vigne Masue is expansive, full-bodied, and concentrated. The wine displays a dark ruby color, as well as an explosive nose of cherry liqueur, incense, dried herbs, smoke, cedar, and soy. Full-bodied, dense, and powerful, with fabulous concentration, and a sweet, layered mid-palate and finish, this large-scaled, mouth-coating Barbaresco will be at its finest between 2002-2016.
