2013 Prunotto Barbaresco (Previously $37)

92 points James Suckling: "Lovely purity of fruit and depth with strawberry and lemon aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Better in 2019." (11/2016) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Showing a hearty dose of all-Nebbiolo personality, the 2013 Barbaresco opens to well-balanced notes of dried berry, licorice, tar and blue flower. The ensemble is delicate and fresh. What makes this wine so appealing is the fact it offers such a clear and pristine view of the grape that is especially well-executed in this vintage. The finish is elegant and silky. (ML) 91+" (9/2016)

2014 Rivella Langhe Nebbiolo

Guido Rivella's Nebbiolo d'Alba is grown partly in Montestefano and partly in Patricone (near Cole) and it is made from 90% Nebbiolo and 10% Barbera. The grapes are separately fermented in stainless steel for 14-18 days and then aged in wood for 6-12 months. The blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera is something that Guido did regularly at Gaja, using the Barbera to add lift and drive to the Nebbiolo. Perfect for pasta and roast meats.

2013 Albino Rocca "Ronchi" Barbaresco

95 points Vinous: "The 2013 Barbaresco Ronchi is superb. Ample and large scaled, as wines from this clay-rich site often are, the Ronchi is firing on all cylinders today. Layers of dark red stone fruit fill out the wine's ample frame effortlessly. Pine, menthol, anise, citrus peel and tobacco add attractive aromatic overtones, but it is the wine's balance that is most impressive today. Simply put, the Ronchi is a standout." (10/2016)

2012 Rivella Barbaresco

93 points Vinous: "Rivella's 2012 Barbaresco is simply gorgeous. Sweet, polished and refined, the 2012 possesses striking purity and nuance throughout. A host of dark red cherry, plum, mint and rose petal scents lift from the glass as this translucent, deeply expressive Barbaresco shows off its undeniable class. In 2012, Rivella did not bottle their top of the line Montestefano; all the best fruit went into the straight Barbaresco, which also happens to be one of the best wines of the year. The 2012 exudes the sensuality, charm and pure sexiness that makes Barbaresco such ...Read More »

2013 Ronchi Barbaresco

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This opens with a nose of mature black-skinned fruit, leather, truffle, blue flower and cake spice. On the smooth palate, notes of cake spice and star anise back up ripe black cherry and raspberry compote. Firm, velvety tannins provide the framework. (KO)" (10/2016) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A tightly wound red, with firm, raspy tannins that make the future difficult to predict. With air, sweet cherry, licorice and spice flavors emerge. Fans out nicely on the lingering finish. Best from 2019 through 2032. (BS, Web-2017)"

2013 Nada Fiorenzo "Montaribaldi" Barbaresco (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Vinous: "An addition to the range, the 2013 Barbaresco Montaribaldi is magnificent. Dark spices, lavender, sage, menthol and dark cherries are front and center. Large-scaled, ample and super-expressive, the Montaribaldi captures the power and intensity of this site. Sweet mentholated notes round out the finish. What a gorgeous wine this is. The 2013 spent two full years in cask. It needs time to shed some tannin, but it is fabulous even at this early stage. These are some of the best Barbarescos I have ever tasted from Bruno Nada and his son, Danilo. The late ha ...Read More »

2013 Sottimano "Cottá" Barbaresco

94 points Vinous: "As always, the 2013 Barbaresco Cottà is a wine of amplitude and breadth. Sweet dark cherry, pomegranate, mint, spices and leather meld together effortlessly. The Cottà has a bit less delineation and nuance than some of the other wines in the range, but more immediacy and mid-palate juiciness. As the years have passed, so many wines in this lineup have improved, but the Cottà has remained pretty much static, for better or worse. (AG)" (12/2015) 93 points James Suckling: "A tannic young wine with backbone and structure. Medium body, berry and walnut character and a chewy finish. Needs ...Read More »

2013 Rivella "Montestefano" Barbaresco (Previously $75)

Guido Rivella had a multi-decade career as the winemaker for Angelo Gaja. Now retired, he and his daughter have a tiny estate in Barbaresco. This production of only three barrels comes from grapes harvested from 0.37 hectares of calcareous clay soil with a southern exposure. Fermentation and maceration occur in stainless steel tanks for 22-25 days at a controlled temperature. The wine is aged in wood for 14-18 months, then again in bottles for a few months before commercial release.

2013 Sottimano "Fausoni" Barbaresco

94 points Vinous: "A dazzling wine of pure finesse, the 2013 Barbaresco Fausoni is supremely beautiful. For the first time I can remember in fifteen years of visiting this estate, the Fausoni is refined in its tannins. Sweet floral notes meld into a core of translucent fruit in an alluring, captivating Barbaresco that is super-impressive. The level of precision here is just magnificent. This is one of the best young Fausonis - if not the best - I have tasted at Sottimano. (AG)" (12/2015) 92 points James Suckling: "Pretty aromas of dried strawberry and orange peel. 2013 Orlando Abrigo "Rocche Meruzzano" Barbaresco

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "You can't go wrong with a classic wine like the 2013 Barbaresco Meruzzano. This pristine Nebbiolo reveals variety-driven tones of crushed granite and flint with finely-tuned berry notes of cassis, wild strawberry and rose hip. The aromas show a very clean and focused quality. In the mouth, this pretty Barbaresco offers good dimension and finesse with silky, linear tannins. (ML)" (6/2016) Vinous: "Abrigo's 2013 Barbaresco Meruzzano is deep, powerful and intense. 2011 Sottimano "Cottá" Barbaresco

94 points Vinous: "An overachiever in this vintage, the 2011 Barbaresco Cottà is one of the most refined wines I have tasted from this site, where the wines are usually much more overt and powerful in style. Sweet floral and spice notes meld into a core of dark red and black hued stone fruits, tobacco, smoke and new leather. The characteristic pliant, juicy Cottà fruit is there, but it is complemented by expressive floral overtones. There is a pure immediacy to the Cottà that is impossible to miss. 1997 Ceretto Barbaresco "Bricco Asili"

93 points Wine Spectator: "Don't touch this for ages. Blockbuster. Incredibly concentrated, like Port. Big, powerful and chewy. Raisin juice. Full-bodied, with masses of tannins and a long finish. A bit more finesse would make it classic quality. Best after 2006. 688 cases made." (08/2000) 91 points Robert Parker: "The superlative 1997 Barbaresco Bricco Asili-Bricco Asili boasts a dark garnet color with amber at the edge as well as smoke, vanillin, leather, cherry liqueur, licorice, dried herb, and subtle oak aromas and flavors. 2008 Produttori del Barbaresco "Paje" Riserva (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Decanter: "Delicious rose and red cherry nuances backed up by noteworthy but polished tannins. Pajè doesn’t get any better than this." (8/2013) 95 points Wine & Spirits: "An opulent, luxurious Barbaresco, this wine’s floral scents combine with its tannins to yield an earthy tension in the end, long-lasting and complete. The tannins have nebbiolo’s austere precision, a structure filled up with anise-scented fruit. Substantially and youthfully tough without any sense of excess weight, this has a long life ahead." 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Made by what is one of Italy's best co-operative cellars, this riserva from the legendary Rio Sordo vineyard offers intense under - brush aromas of truffle, pine forest, leather and balsam ic notes. The palate has a core of juicy black cherries layered with cinnamon-spice and shows plenty of depth. Drink this after 2018 to let it develop more complexity." (8/2013) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A picture perfect example of site, the 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo is classic Rio Sordo. 2008 Produttori del Barbaresco "Pora" Riserva (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Playing true to type, the 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is another of the more open wines in this vintage. But that is only in relative terms. Layers of expressive red fruit, crushed flowers and spices flesh out in this radiant Barbaresco. In most vintages the Pora is one of the more accessible of the Riservas when young. The close proximity of the vineyard to the Tanaro River results in a warm microclimate that ripens the fruit earlier than elsewhere. In 2008, though, the Pora packs a serious punch. The coolness of the late harvest comes through in a fin ...Read More »

The palate is delicious, with black cherry, plum and spice uplifted by freshness and energizing miner - al notes. It has ample depth and balance, and while it’s drinking well now, it will also age for years. Cellar Selection K.O" (8/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota is arguably the most open and expressive of the 2008 Riservas. It presents a gorgeous soft core of fruit to match an open personality. Although I wouldn’t sugge ...Read More »

2013 Gaja Barbaresco Back In Stock!
2013 Gaja Barbaresco

96 points Vinous: "The 2013 Barbaresco is fabulous. In fact, this is one of the best Barbarescos I have tasted at Gaja in many years. Vibrant, perfumed and beautifully sculpted in the glass, the 2013 possesses tons of understated intensity. Sweet red cherry, mint, white pepper and anise are all lifted in the glass. The 2013 is an almost shockingly classic Barbaresco from Gaja. The translucent color, vibrant Nebbiolo fruit and austere but noble tannins represent a move towards a much more traditional style. For readers who can find it, the 2013 is simply a must-have wine. ( ...Read More »

2012 Ca' del Baio "Vallegrande" Barbaresco

92 points James Suckling: "Aromas of strawberry and cherry with hints of flowers. Full body with a solid core of fruit and a silky tannin texture. Bright and pretty. Drink or hold." (10/2015) 92 points Vinous: "The 2012 Barbaresco Vallegrande is a forward, supple wine to drink now and over the next few years. Spice, sweet tobacco, black cherry, menthol, pine and a host of balsamic-inflected nuances give the fruit much of its aromatic lift, while firm tannins add energy and a sense of drive. The overall profile is very typical of Vallegrande and Treiso more broadly. I would prefer to drink the 2012 soo ...Read More »

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sottimano's 2012 Barbaresco Fausoni shows highly impressive results with a smooth entry to the palate followed by bright fruit flavors that are fused with floral accents, spice and licorice. Fausoni reveals pretty transparency with brilliant garnet accents. The aromas are tonic, vibrant and fresh. There's plenty of menthol and cardamon-infused lift on the finish. This is a very satisfying wine that promises a long life ahead. (ML)" (6/2015) 93 points James Suckling: "A fresh, refined 2012 Barbaresco with dark-berry, floral and hints of walnut character. 2007 Castello di Neive "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Castello di Neive "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco (95RP, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barbaresco Albesani Santo Stefano shows the weight and richness that is typical of this south-facing site in Neive. A rich fabric of dark fruit, fresh roses, new leather and menthol completely cover the palate. The Santo Stefano is impeccable in its generous, enveloping fruit. The intensity and sheer depth of the fruit manages to virtually bury the tannins, but they are there. As delicious as this is today, it will be even better in a few years- time. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. Castello di Neive, one of the historic producers in Barbaresco, seems to fly under the radar, but the best of the wines are well worth discovering and offer terrific quality for the money.
