1995 Marchesi di Barolo "Estate Vineyard" Barolo (Pre-Arrival)

Established in the early 1800s, when the Marquis of Barolo married the French noblewoman Juliette Colbert, Marchesi di Barolo is a historic estate in Piedmont particularly known for its single-vineyard and riserva wines from the Nebbiolo grape. The estate often releases older vintages, which demonstrate the ageworthiness of the wines.

1990 Marchesi di Barolo Grand Riserva Barolo (Pre-Arrival)

93 points from Jeannie Cho Lee, Master of Wine: "Succulent, juicy ripe fruits with dried violets and jasmine. Seamless, layered and beautifully aged, this Barolo is beautiful to enjoy now. Long finish. This is the best vintage of Barolo Riserva out of a 6 vintage tasting of this wine." (07/2015)

2000 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Riserva (Pre-Arrival)

93 points Wine Spectator: "This shows lots of licorice and tar with a fruity undertone. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long, rich finish. Mouthpuckering. Built for aging. This is very impressive for this producer. Best after 2008. (JS)" (12/2005) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Here's a wine that shows the aging potential of Nebbiolo. This Barolo offers layers of dried currant, cassis, licorice, natural rubber, white spirit and a dusty, black mineral element. It's a very linear and sharply focused wine that flaunts its power and persistency. A crisp, firm finish suggests the wine will continue to age. ...Read More »

2003 Marchesi di Barolo "Estate Vineyard" Barolo (Pre-Arrival)

Wine Enthusiast: "Vigne di Proprietà is an estate-grown wine with dark concentration and distinctive aromas of black cherry and mature fruit (likely explained by the hot vintage). The wine offers chewy fullness and opulence backed by sweet spice flavors and velvety tannins. It has power too and the alcohol definitely shows as the wine warms in the glass." (4/2009)

2007 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella Top Pick!
2007 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is an impressive wine built to last. Bertani does a great job of presenting the purity of the wine's fruit, its territory and its tradition. The Amarone is not overbuilt or too muscular. Instead, it walks with small, poised footsteps that carry it long and wide. The bouquet shows classic notes of dried fruit, toasted almond, resin, cola and grilled herb. I would not suggest serving this bottle for at least 24 months. (ML) 94+" (12/2015) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Underbrush, crushed blue flower, fig, charred earth and ripe black cherry ar ...Read More »

2004 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino

95 points James Suckling: "Lovely black licorice, flowers, and ripe fruits on the nose. This is very aromatic." (1/2011) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Displays complex aromas of blackberry and cherry, with a hint of licorice. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a delicious finish of wonderful yet subtle fruit. Well-integrated and beautiful. Everything is in the right place. (JS)" (1/2009) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is simply beautiful. Now that the wine is in bottle it is even better than when I tasted it from barrel. Firm but silky tannins frame a core of ripe dark fruit as this powerful yet elegant Brunello ...Read More »

2006 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino

97 points James Suckling: "Love the nose on this with blackberries, sweet tobacco, blueberries. Full body, with soft and silky tannins and a light jammy finish. Lots of dark fruits. Long finish. Loads going on in this one. Give it three to five years. Or more." (1/2011) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino flows with gorgeous layers of dark red fruit. This is one of the more muscular, virile wines of the vintage. Slow to reveal its character, the Valdicava Brunello will require significant patience, but I have seen the wine blossom beautifully, even in the smallest of vintages. A blast o ...Read More »

2001 Sportoletti "Villa Fidelia" Rosso Umbria

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate’s top wine, the 2001 Villa Fidelia Rosso, a Bordeaux blend in which, unlike the first versions, the Cabernet now tends to predominate, is simply superlative, with only the 1999 among the past vintages arriving close to its level. A deep, glowing ruby red, its superbly ripe nose of black currants and raspberries, graphite, tar, and licorice is supported by a dense, sensual, caressing palate, deep and velvety, outstanding in its definition, focus, and balance. A cunning wine, deceptively ready but with an important aging potential in its packed ...Read More »

2007 Teresa Raiz Decano Rosso

This is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Cabernet Franc, aged one year in Allier oak barrels. Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, the easternmost region in Italy, lies just east of Venice leaning against the Slovenian and Croatian borders. It is home to many small wineries including one of our favorites, Ermacora. Most of the famous wines produced in Friuli (the everyday usage of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia) are white but over the past couple of decades the quality of reds has jumped considerably.

2007 Tenuta San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri (375ml)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Here's a wine of power, determination and confidence—as far as first impressions go. The 2007 Bolgheri Sassicaia leaves little hidden behind the curtain. It presents a frank and straightforward array of bold fruit, spice, leather and tobacco-like aromas that emerge from the bouquet with energy and force. The aromas are complete and genuine. The palate, however, offers more space for interpretation and review. It is finessed and nuanced, thus requiring more time to fully comprehend and appreciate. 2011 Il Borro "Bolle di Borro" Rosé Metodo Classico Brut

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Il Borro estate is new to sparkling wine production, but the Ferragamo family has produced a very interesting result. The 2011 Bolle di Borro Metodo Classico Brut is a Rosé sparkler made with Sangiovese. The wine opens to a pale pink color and exhibits aromas of white cherry and wild berry. There are thicker aromas of toasted bread with lively pink grapefruit on the close. The wine ages on the lees for 48 months and was disgorged in March 2016. (ML)" (5/2017)

1971 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Vinous: "The bottle, which I purchased at the estate recently, is remarkable itself. At Mascarello the 1.9 liter format was used prior to 1980. The bottle is covered by a layer of dust. There is no label per se, just the numbers “71” written on the bottle in chalk. An index card with the estate's information is tied and secured to the bottle with a wax seal. The cork is also covered with wax. Following Mascarello's suggestion, the wine was stored upright for several weeks prior to opening. The wine was decanted immediately prior to serving. 2007 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore (375ml)

A phenomenal wine that is full bodied, tight, then hits you with mint, berries, currants, and minerals. Pure class." (11/2010) 97 points Vinous: "The 2007 Ornellaia is a wine of texture above all else. What the 2007 lacks in aromatic intensity it more than makes up for with its sumptuous, generous personality. Silky and inviting, with soft contours and seemingly endless layers of dark red-fleshed fruit, the 2007 is absolutely delicious today. (AG) ...Read More »

2003 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino

Full-bodied, with silky, caressing tannins and intense fruit and mineral flavors. Well-crafted, finishing long. The flagship Brunello in 2003. This is the wine of the vintage. (HS)" (5/2008) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Valdicava’s 2003 Brunello di Montalcino is a big, brooding effort loaded with black cherries, smoke, tar and earthiness. 2003 Feudi di San Gregorio "Serpico" Irpinia

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 is a fascinating Serpico. The wine boasts impressive concentration in its dark, rich fruit. This is an incredibly primary Serpico, with little in the way of tertiary development. Ideally, it is best left alone for another few years, but readers fortunate enough to own this are in for a thrilling ride once the wine opens up a bit. Today it remains tightly coiled but full of potential. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. Superconcentrated, layered and dense, with the structure of a great 1945 claret, such as Latour. Still a blockbuster. Spellbinding. Needs a little time. (Web Only-2010)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino, good as it is, is rather perplexing. 1999 Castello dei Rampolla Sammarco

Sweet crushed flowers, mint, black cherries, incense and licorice add shades of dimension. Sinewy, powerful and structured, the 1999 has enough density and energy to drink well for many years to come. This is a classic 1999 built on power and brawn. (AG)" (10/2015) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Sammarco, a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Sangiovese, has been one of Tuscany's great classics for nearly two decades. Broad swaths of tannin support the vibrant, youthful flavors in a captivating, breathtaking wine of the highest level. (AG)" (1/2017) 97 points James Suckling: "This is complex and fascinating. 2001 Azienda Bricco Rocche (Ceretto) "Prapo" Barolo

94 points Wine & Spirits: "Prapó is the most beautifully formed of the Ceretto 2001s, at least at this early stage of development. It offers intense power and length of flavor on a light frame, without any perceptible alcohol to diminish the freshness and succulence of the bright, berried fruit. Tannins direct the flavors without getting in the way, so the wine feels sleek, a tense line of Nebbiolo with the amplitude and depth that will sustain it for 15 or 20 years." 1961 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo Riserva (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

The 1958 can be a legendary wine, but on this night the wine was exceedingly evolved." A jammy, fruit-forward wine. (Web-2010)" 92 points Vinous: "The estate's 1999 Brunello di Montalcino is a touch more slender than I would have expected in this vintage. Gorgeous aromas meld into spiced dark fruit, spices, leather and menthol in a pretty style of Sangiovese. This is the best Brunello ever from here. (JS, Web-2009)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is the first Brunello oenologist Hans Vinding-Diers made from start to finish at Argiano, and it represents a significant stylistic shift in direction. Among the changes Vinding-Diers instituted are lower temperatures in fermentation, which have given his wines gorgeous, detailed aromatics as well as notable textural elegance. The ...Read More »

(JS)" (2/2004) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Serpico is another wine that appears to need more bottle age. Today it is in an in-between stage where the fruit is no longer primary but the tertiary notes aren’t fully developed either. (JS)" (5/2003) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Antinori estate in Montalcino is comprised of vineyards purchased from Castello di Casigliano in 1995.
