2004 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino

95 points James Suckling: "Lovely black licorice, flowers, and ripe fruits on the nose. This is very aromatic." (1/2011) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Displays complex aromas of blackberry and cherry, with a hint of licorice. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a delicious finish of wonderful yet subtle fruit. Well-integrated and beautiful. Everything is in the right place. (JS)" (1/2009) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is simply beautiful. Now that the wine is in bottle it is even better than when I tasted it from barrel. Firm but silky tannins frame a core of ripe dark fruit as this powerful yet elegant Brunello ...Read More »

2007 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino

98 points James Suckling: "What beautiful clear fruit here, with plums and spices and hints of flowers. Class. Full- bodied and luscious, this Brunello fills your mouth, with polished velvety tannins and gorgeous fruit. So wonderful and gorgeous. Irresistible. Better than 2006. Best after 2016." (1/2012) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous. Dark red cherries, plums, spices, leather and tobacco wrap around the palate as this dense, powerful wine starts to open up. 2007 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella Top Pick!
2007 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is an impressive wine built to last. Bertani does a great job of presenting the purity of the wine's fruit, its territory and its tradition. The Amarone is not overbuilt or too muscular. Instead, it walks with small, poised footsteps that carry it long and wide. The bouquet shows classic notes of dried fruit, toasted almond, resin, cola and grilled herb. I would not suggest serving this bottle for at least 24 months. 1997 Collosorbo Brunello di Montalcino

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby with a garnet core. Opens with appealing smells of sottobosco, tobacco, wet soil and spicy cedar. Redolent of overripe fruit, primarily plum jam, and a heady mix of earthy flavors and fresh road tar. In spite of a pronounced acid bite the abundant tannins are suave, and there is an impression of density and weight. The long finish carries an aftertaste of roasted chestnuts. The acids seem slightly intrusive but the wine intensity and zest are nonetheless quite attractive. (EB)" (7/2002) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dark ruby/garnet-colored 1997 Brunello di Montalcino boa ...Read More »

1996 Cordero di Montezemolo Barolo "Monfalletto"

92 points Stephen Tanzer: "Good deep red-ruby. Cassis, redcurrant, truffle, gunflint, green tobacco, dark chocolate and a whiff of varnish on the nose. Then fat, full and deep in the mouth, with fresh black fruit flavors and a chewy, layered texture. Very rich and concentrated. The fresh, robust fruit flavors outlast the rather strong, mounting tannins." (Nov/Dec 2000) 91-93 points Robert Parker: "The greatness of the 1996 vintage is obvious in the saturated ruby/purple colors of Codero's wines. The 1996 Barolo Monfalletto reveals lots of mineral and new... Read More »

2007 Teresa Raiz Decano Rosso

This is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Cabernet Franc, aged one year in Allier oak barrels. Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, the easternmost region in Italy, lies just east of Venice leaning against the Slovenian and Croatian borders. It is home to many small wineries including one of our favorites, Ermacora. Most of the famous wines produced in Friuli (the everyday usage of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia) are white but over the past couple of decades the quality of reds has jumped considerably.

2006 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino

97 points James Suckling: "Love the nose on this with blackberries, sweet tobacco, blueberries. Full body, with soft and silky tannins and a light jammy finish. Lots of dark fruits. Long finish. Loads going on in this one. Give it three to five years. Or more." (1/2011) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino flows with gorgeous layers of dark red fruit. This is one of the more muscular, virile wines of the vintage. Slow to reveal its character, the Valdicava Brunello will require significant patience, but I have seen the wine blossom beautifully, even in the smallest of vintages. A blast o ...Read More »

1997 Ceretto Barbaresco "Bricco Asili"

A bit more finesse would make it classic quality. Best after 2006. 688 cases made." (08/2000) 91 points Robert Parker: "The superlative 1997 Barbaresco Bricco Asili-Bricco Asili boasts a dark garnet color with amber at the edge as well as smoke, vanillin, leather, cherry liqueur, licorice, dried herb, and subtle oak aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with silky, caressing tannins and intense fruit and mineral flavors. Well-crafted, finishing long. The flagship Brunello in 2003. This is the wine of the vintage. (HS)" (5/2008) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Valdicava’s 2003 Brunello di Montalcino is a big, brooding effort loaded with black cherries, smoke, tar and earthiness. The 2007 is an opulent, explosive Bric del Fiasc that flows with marvelous density, richness and power. A deep, glowing ruby red, its superbly ripe nose of black currants and raspberries, graphite, tar, and licorice is supported by a dense, sensual, caressing palate, deep and velvety, outstanding in its definition, focus, and balance. 2001 Azienda Bricco Rocche (Ceretto) "Prapo" Barolo

94 points Wine & Spirits: "Prapó is the most beautifully formed of the Ceretto 2001s, at least at this early stage of development. It offers intense power and length of flavor on a light frame, without any perceptible alcohol to diminish the freshness and succulence of the bright, berried fruit. Tannins direct the flavors without getting in the way, so the wine feels sleek, a tense line of Nebbiolo with the amplitude and depth that will sustain it for 15 or 20 years." 2006 Tenuta San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri (375ml)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Tenuta San Guido 2006 Bolgheri Sassicaia is a timeless classic. This might just be the vintage to photograph in an encyclopedia entry for Sassicaia. This is especially true at this exact moment in its long and promising drinking window. The wine shows less volume compared to some of the more opulent vintages, but it absolutely excels in terms of length and finish. 1990 Ruffino "Riserva Ducale" Chianti Classico Riserva

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Scheduled for release in early 1995, this wine exhibits the opulence and abundant richness of this great Tuscan vintage. A saturated plum/garnet color complements a sweet bouquet of cedar, roasted herbs, smoked meats, and jammy, black-cherry fruit. This full-bodied, spicy, concentrated wine possesses muscle, power, and moderate tannin. It will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and easily last for 20+ years. It appears to be one of the best Riserva Ducales Ruffino has produced." (8/1994)

1997 Pio Cesare Barolo

It was so approachable and beautiful when young and now it drinks with the same richness and character but with much more polished and refined tannins. I opened a bottle last week during VinExpo in Hong Kong with some friends during dinner, and it was a joy to drink. It underlines the beauty of the warm vintage of 1997 in Barolo, and how the wines in general have aged incredibly well despite being so open and luscious when young. 1990 Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Brunello di Montalcino impresses for its overall harmony. Everything is simply in the right place. The aromas, flavors and tannin have all matured evenly in this radiant, supple Brunello. Even at 21 years of age the 1990 remains a youngster, maybe with as much as another 20 years to go. Huge tannins frame the mouth-watering finish as the sheer vibrancy of Sangiovese saturates the palate with intense acidity. This is a great showing. This, too, is an intense, full-bodied wine. The balance here is utterly exceptional, and the wine’s sheer plumpness makes for a highly rewarding glass of Brunello. 2001 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

95 points Wine Spectator: "Dark and tightly wound, with iron, wild herb and cocoa notes backed by full tannins wrapping the firm dark cherry and plum skin notes, ending with dark tar, graphite and bitter almond. Hide this in the cellar for a few years. (NW, Web-2013)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This bottle (#31310) of Emidio Pepe’s 2001 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is incredibly dark in color. 1999 Talenti Brunello di Montalcino

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino, the first wine Carlo Ferrini was able to fully control from the start, is an important step in the evolution of the estate’s style, fresher in color than in the past, notably more fruity on the nose with fine focus and complexity, broad, tarry, and meaty on the palate, well concentrated but round and balanced as well. Drink: 2005-2018. (DT)" (4/2005)

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Monprivato is stunningly beautiful. Monprivato is seldom this rich when it is young. It is most often intensely aromatic, mid-weight and frequently out of balance, especially right after bottling. The 2007 is none of those things. It is a rich, dramatic wine endowed with tons of fruit and a sweeping, enveloping personality. It is also primary and at the beginning of what is likely to be a long, long life. Despite its seeming fragility, Monprivato is one of the most long-lived of all Baroli, even in its weakest vintages. Drink from 2017-20 ...Read More »
