2007 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella Top Pick!
2007 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is an impressive wine built to last. Bertani does a great job of presenting the purity of the wine's fruit, its territory and its tradition. The Amarone is not overbuilt or too muscular. Instead, it walks with small, poised footsteps that carry it long and wide. The bouquet shows classic notes of dried fruit, toasted almond, resin, cola and grilled herb. I would not suggest serving this bottle for at least 24 months. 2000 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Riserva

93 points Wine Spectator: "This shows lots of licorice and tar with a fruity undertone. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long, rich finish. Mouthpuckering. Built for aging. This is very impressive for this producer. Best after 2008. (JS)" (12/2005) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Here's a wine that shows the aging potential of Nebbiolo. This Barolo offers layers of dried currant, cassis, licorice, natural rubber, white spirit and a dusty, black mineral element. It's a very linear and sharply focused wine that flaunts its power and persistency. A crisp, firm finish suggests the wine will continue to age. ...Read More »

2007 Tenuta San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri (375ml)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Here's a wine of power, determination and confidence—as far as first impressions go. The 2007 Bolgheri Sassicaia leaves little hidden behind the curtain. It presents a frank and straightforward array of bold fruit, spice, leather and tobacco-like aromas that emerge from the bouquet with energy and force. The aromas are complete and genuine. The palate, however, offers more space for interpretation and review. It is finessed and nuanced, thus requiring more time to fully comprehend and appreciate. Silky tannins are followed by fine textural smoothness and ...Read More »

2006 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore (375ml)

98 points Vinous: "The second flight is a comparison of power versus finesse. A towering, vivid wine, the 2006 Ornellaia bristles with power, depth and intensity. Broad swaths of tannin support the vibrant, youthful flavors in a captivating, breathtaking wine of the highest level. (AG)" (1/2017) 97 points James Suckling: "This is complex and fascinating. At first taste it is like a great California Cabernet mixed with a first growth Bordeaux. Delicious licorice, mint, and currants on the palate. Full bodied, chewy, with ultra fine tannins. 2006 Gaja "Conteisa" Nebbiolo Langhe (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Langhe Conteisa is a beautifully firm, transparent wine endowed with expressive red fruits, menthol, flowers and licorice. The 2006 is decidedly more reticent than the 2007, but it shows tons of harmony, length and class. The finish is utterly seductive. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. (AG)" (2/2010) 93 points Vinous: "Medium red, less saturated than Gaja's wines from Barbaresco. Highly complex nose offers dark chocolate, truffle, minerals and flowers, along with a slight suggestion of dried fruits. 2007 Teresa Raiz Decano Rosso

This is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Cabernet Franc, aged one year in Allier oak barrels. Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, the easternmost region in Italy, lies just east of Venice leaning against the Slovenian and Croatian borders. It is home to many small wineries including one of our favorites, Ermacora. Most of the famous wines produced in Friuli (the everyday usage of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia) are white but over the past couple of decades the quality of reds has jumped considerably.

2003 Feudi di San Gregorio "Serpico" Irpinia

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 is a fascinating Serpico. The wine boasts impressive concentration in its dark, rich fruit. This is an incredibly primary Serpico, with little in the way of tertiary development. Ideally, it is best left alone for another few years, but readers fortunate enough to own this are in for a thrilling ride once the wine opens up a bit. Today it remains tightly coiled but full of potential. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. Hide this in the cellar for a few years. (NW, Web-2013)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This bottle (#31310) of Emidio Pepe’s 2001 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is incredibly dark in color. 2007 Giuseppe Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) Back In Stock!
2007 Giuseppe Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo (Pre-Arrival)

97 points Vinous: "The 2007 Barolo Monprivato is stunningly beautiful. Monprivato is seldom this rich when it is young. It is most often intensely aromatic, mid-weight and frequently out of balance, especially right after bottling. The 2007 is none of those things. It is a rich, dramatic wine endowed with tons of fruit and a sweeping, enveloping personality. It is also primary and at the beginning of what is likely to be a long, long life. Despite its seeming fragility, Monprivato is one if the most long-lived of all Baroli, even its weakest vintages. The 2007 is spectacul ...Read More »

1999 Fanti (Tenuta San Filippo) Brunello di Montalcino

Superconcentrated, layered and dense, with the structure of a great 1945 claret, such as Latour. Still a blockbuster. Spellbinding. Needs a little time. (Web Only-2010)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino, good as it is, is rather perplexing. Fat, sweet, rich and deep; at once succulent and seamless, with a wonderfully layered texture and great early appeal. Very full without coming across as weighty. The slow-building finish features substantial sweet tannins. "Shows the magic side of 2001," Franco offers. "It can keep for a long time but it's great right now." 2006 Massolino "Vigna Rionda" Barolo Riserva (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Vinous: "The 2006 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is young. Very young. Today the fruit remains quite primary and the aromatics have yet to develop. Still, it is impossible not to admire the wine's structure and the sheer integrity of its fruit. I especially like the way the 2006 continues to open up as it sits in the glass. This is a hugely promising wine from the Massolino brothers, but readers will have to be patient. (AG) 95+" (4/2012)

2004 Oddero "Rocche di Castiglione" Barolo

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate’s 2004 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a dark wine loaded with black cherries, menthol and sweet spices in the focused, sinewy style that is the hallmark of this bottling. Today the wine comes across as quite primary, but the tannins are refined, and my impression is that the only thing this needs is bottle age. The wine’s richness and depth are commendable. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. (AG)" (10/2008) K&L Notes: One of my favorite Barolo wineries, Oddero is a traditionalist and makes wines of classic style. Smoke, leather, licorice, wild cherries and rosemary develop beautifully in the glass, along with suggestions of ash and game that add character and complexity. The 1999 is a decidedly powerful Piano di Montevergine that is rewarding today and should drink well for another decade, perhaps beyond. 2011 Il Borro "Bolle di Borro" Rosé Metodo Classico Brut

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Il Borro estate is new to sparkling wine production, but the Ferragamo family has produced a very interesting result. The 2011 Bolle di Borro Metodo Classico Brut is a Rosé sparkler made with Sangiovese. The wine opens to a pale pink color and exhibits aromas of white cherry and wild berry. A phenomenal wine that is full bodied, tight, then hits you with mint, berries, currants, and minerals. Pure class." (11/2010) 97 points Vinous: "The 2007 Ornellaia is a wine of texture above all else. What the 2007 lacks in aromatic intensity it more than makes up for with its sumptuous, generous personality. 2003 La Velona Brunello di Montalcino Back In Stock!
2003 La Velona Brunello di Montalcino

La Velona's winery sits in the southeast corner of the Montalcino growing zone, just outside of the tiny hamlet of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, where it's warmed by the southern exposure and blessed with sunlight from the open view to Mount Amiata across the Orcia River Valley. These vineyards always produce fully ripe grapes, and 2003 was one of the hottest summers on record in Tuscany. The expectation was that the wines would all be cooked. This impressively rich, concentrated Barolo is fresh and perfumed, with plenty of sweet fruit supported by awesome structure and power. With air delicate notes of herbs and tobacco emerge, adding further complexity. With this effort, the Castiglione bottling takes an important step in Currado’s plan to make this wine much closer in quality to his single-vineyard offerings. 2004 Casanova di Neri "Cerretalto" Brunello di Montalcino

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As you can well imagine, the 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto was absolutely explosive on the palate, and even more so because it followed the stylistically traditional, more understated and more ethereal wines from Montalcino in this tasting--such as Cerbaiona and Salvioni. Giacomo Neri's Brunello would stand tall among the wines from Bolgheri and coastal Tuscany, given the thicker extraction, textural richness and power he strives to achieve.
