2016 Silvano Follador Prosecco Superiore Brut Nature

Just a note to clear up some nomenclature issues with this brand: Silvano Follador has added an extra word to their label, "Nature." It means that the finished wine has less than 3 grams per liter of residual sugar, even though their wines are Brut, and Brut can be decidedly higher. Nature is a designation that is more definitive. Most Prosecco is Extra Dry and that is 12-20 grams per liter which could go from dry-ish to outright sweet. Follador is looking to distance themselves from the rest of the pack, and in this vintage the residual sugar is 0.0%.

This 100% Nebbiolo bottling from Schiavenza is sourced from plots in the village of Serralunga d'Alba. So yes, this under-$20 bottle is declassified Barolo that was vinified to drink at a young age. The wine spent one year in steel tanks before bottling, upon which time it was bottle aged for another year before release.

The Frescobaldis are one of Tuscany’s oldest wine families. They are based in Rufina, just east of Florence, and they have wineries in multiple zones across Italy. While their family history is definitely rooted in Florence, their estate in Montalcino, Castello di Nipozzano, defined Chianti Rufina in the US for decades. 2007 Teresa Raiz Decano Rosso

This is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Cabernet Franc, aged one year in Allier oak barrels. Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, the easternmost region in Italy, lies just east of Venice leaning against the Slovenian and Croatian borders. It is home to many small wineries including one of our favorites, Ermacora. Most of the famous wines produced in Friuli (the everyday usage of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia) are white but over the past couple of decades the quality of reds has jumped considerably.
