2010 Valdicava "Madonna del Piano" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

100 points James Suckling: "A wine with superb finesse and depth. So subtle and understated yet powerful and long. The tannin intensity is amazing. It just builds like a massive wave. Superb. Give this time in the bottle. The length is endless. Better in 2018." (11/2016) 96 points Wine Spectator: "*** Collectibles *** A pure, focused style, with a beam of black cherry anchoring the leather, mineral, hibiscus tea and earth flavors. Well-structured, young and fresh, with a lingering aftertaste of fruit, mineral and woodsy details. Best from 2019 through 2035. 3,900 cases made. 2012 Giacomo Conterno "Francia" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2012 Giacomo Conterno "Francia" Barolo (Pre-Arrival)

98 points James Suckling: "A gorgeous nose of orange peel, plums and light walnuts. Some wet earth. Full to medium body with a compacted center palate. A tight ball of ripe, fine tannins. Minerals and hot stones underneath. Serious structure. No Monfortino was made so it's all here. Better in 2022." (11/2016) 97 points Vinous: "The 2012 Barolo Francia is wonderfully expressive today. Much more open than the Barolo Cerretta tasted alongside it, the Francia bristles with energy. Floral and mineral overtones add to an impression of brightness, yet there is plenty of underlying tannin and overall structur ...Read More »

2013 Gaja Barbaresco

96 points Vinous: "The 2013 Barbaresco is fabulous. In fact, this is one of the best Barbarescos I have tasted at Gaja in many years. Vibrant, perfumed and beautifully sculpted in the glass, the 2013 possesses tons of understated intensity. Sweet red cherry, mint, white pepper and anise are all lifted in the glass. The 2013 is an almost shockingly classic Barbaresco from Gaja. The translucent color, vibrant Nebbiolo fruit and austere but noble tannins represent a move towards a much more traditional style. For readers who can find it, the 2013 is simply a must-have wine. ( ...Read More »

2013 Vietti "Lazzarito" Barolo

96 points Vinous: "This tasting of the 2013 Barolo Lazzarito confirms just how far the wine has come along in recent vintages. Creamy, ample and potent, the 2013 offers an intriguing interplay of aromatics, fruit and structural underpinnings. Gravel, smoke, tar and dark fruit - all signatures of this Serralunga site - are front and center, but it is the wine's overall balance that is most impressive. Scorched earth, leather, smoke and graphite are some of the many notes that reapper on the finish. The 2013 is a real stunner. Such elegance. Racy and very long. Superb. What a wine. I always love this. Drink or hold." (2/2016) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a wine that shows immense harmony and inner poise. The powerful vintage is elegantly tempered in this expression thanks to the flowing and musical nature of the aromatic presentation. 2010 Gaja "Conteisa" Langhe Nebbiolo

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Conteisa is a stunner with all the overwhelming elegance that is inherent to this vintage. It opens steadily to reveal red flower, cassis, baking spice, anisette and tobacco. The aromas are expressive and deep with enduring richness. The tannins are slightly sweet and already soft. This is a collectors’ choice. Drink: 2018-2040. I have some happy news to report from the exciting world of Angelo Gaja. The estate that was notoriously difficult (if not impossible) to visit for those outside the wine trade is now opening its doors to the public. The ...Read More »

2014 Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "To be released in May 2017, the 2014 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia reverts to a style and personality that we have not seen in a long while. The wine shows a tight, silky and determined approach that reminds us of the Ornellaias made under the estate's previous ownership with the Marchese Lodovico Antinori in the mid-1990s. More than anything else, this has to do with the very unique characteristics of the 2014 growing season. The wine opens to a beautifully saturated and dark appearance. Loads going on in this one." (1/2011) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino flows with gorgeous layers of dark red fruit. This is one of the more muscular, virile wines of the vintage. That said, I am amazed how bright and primary the fruit still is. Sweet, perfumed aromatics lead to a core of silky fruit as this elegant, pedigreed Barolo emerges from the glass. The tannins are plentiful—creating a rich texture—yet supple, showing great ripeness on the finish." (4/2004) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium ruby. Dark cherry, plum, spice, tobacco, menthol and licorice add shades of nuance as this beautifully delineated Rancia opens up in the glass. Because of its mid-weight structure, I expect the 2012 will give up its charms relatively early by Rancia standards, which means around age 15-20. This is what great Sangiovese is all about. There's so much happening on the nose and the wine brings you to cherry, spice, licorice, cured meat, pressed rose and grilled meat in equal measure. No one element overpowers the next. The mouthfeel is also tight and bright with the kind of fruit intensity that promises long cellar aging. This Brunello is only at the beginning of a long road ahead. The longer the wine stays in the glass, the more it offers in terms of complexity and intensity. Full body, phenomenal depth of fruit and silky tannins. There is polish and finesse, yet the strength is monumental. Better in 2018 but why wait? Demeter certified as biodynamic." (8/2015) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The lovely 2012 Duemani is a wine that will show its potential further down the road. This warm vintage expression is muscular and compact at this initial stage in its evolution. It needs more years of bottle aging to unwind and soften ...Read More »

2010 Domenico Clerico "Pajana" Barolo
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Domenico Clerico "Pajana" Barolo (94ST, 93JS, 93RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium red. Less expressive on the nose than the Briccotto, hinting at ripe, musky plum, black raspberry, menthol and tobacco. Then smooth and sweet in the mouth, but with terrific energy keeping the red fruit and tobacco flavors fresh and primary. Sweeter and more elegant in style than the 2009, but this fine-grained, firmly tannic wine really shut down in the glass. Outstanding potential here." (12/2013)

2005 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino (93WE, 92RP, 91WS). Wine Enthusiast: "Plush and modern, plump and decadent: this is a blockbuster Brunello with huge concentration, density and intensity especially where those oak-related aromas are concerned. Yes, you get loads of spice and mesquite wood here but the natural intensity of the cherry and blackberry is not overwhelmed. The wine is soft, chewy and dense in the mouth. (RV)" (08/2010)

2009 Aldo Conterno "Colonnello" Barolo

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Barolo Colonnello is destined to occupy a special place in my heart as it turned out to be the first sample in my opening blind flight as Italian reviewer with The Wine Advocate. Darkly concentrated and rich, it sets the stage beautifully for 2009 Barolo thanks to its enormous grace, power and elegance. Where it really wins praise, however, is in the mouth. It shows solid grip and firm tannic tenacity that is bold and muscular without going over the top. It moves steadily over the palate in an exceptional manner. The bouquet opens to wild cherry ...Read More »

1997 Luigi Pira "Marenca" Barolo
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1997 Luigi Pira "Marenca" Barolo (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The profound, dense garnet/ruby-colored 1997 Barolo Marenca displays a spectacular bouquet of roasted espresso, kirsch liqueur, blackberries, tobacco, sardines, cedar, and leather. Sumptuous in the mouth, full-bodied, with an exotic overripe character, this dense, thick Barolo tastes sweet because of the high glycerin levels. As it was in cask, this 1997 Barolo remains dominated by its baby fat. (RP)" (01/2001)

2011 Casanova di Neri "Tenuta Nuova" Brunello di Montalcino
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Casanova di Neri "Tenuta Nuova" Brunello di Montalcino (95IWR, 95RP, 94JS, 93VN, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is another fabulous wine from Giacomo Neri. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a deeply layered expression with bold tones of dark fruit that are softened and enhanced by spice, leather, tobacco and balsam herb. The wine is very beautiful and polished with slightly less depth and complexity compared the outstanding (100 point) vintage that precedes it. Despite the vintage variation, this is a wine of enormous pedigree and importance. It is generous and confident with a presentation that offers purity, intensity and persistence. (ML)" (03/2016)

2006 Domenico Clerico "Pajana" Barolo
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Domenico Clerico "Pajana" Barolo (96RP, 93JS, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Barolo Pajana reveals incredible aromatic complexity and intensity, something this particular site isn’t always capable of. There is lovely definition to be found as this classic feeling, mid-weight Pajana opens up in the glass. Layers of ripe dark fruit, spices, flowers, licorice and minerals develop seamlessly through to the close. I am floored by the wine’s volume, depth and length. Quite simply, this is a magnificent effort from Clerico. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031. (AG)" (02/2010)

1996 Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella Superiore

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Valpolicella is amazing. Readers will have to redefine their definition of Valpolicella to understand this blockbuster. The color is a dense purple. The bouquet offers glorious levels of blackberry and cherry fruit intertwined with vanilla, minerals, lead pencil shavings, and spice. The wine is full-bodied and voluptuously-textured, with sweet tannin and a seamless finish. It is an enormous yet incredibly symmetrical Valpolicella to drink over the next 2-5 years; it will last for 15-18 years. (RP)" (10/2001) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Big and powerful, with black pepper, b ...Read More »

Full-bodied, yet refined. It builds on the palate with lots of racy tannins and an ultralong finish. A long-ager. Nearly matches the amazing 1996 in quality. The best from Conterno this year. Best after 2010." (07/2004)

2010 Conterno Fantino "Vigna del Gris" Barolo
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Conterno Fantino "Vigna del Gris" Barolo (94VN, 93ST, 93WS, 92JS). Vinous: "The 2010 Barolo Vigna del Gris is beautiful, layered and expressive. Sweet tobacco, mint, licorice, crushed flowers and plums meld together in a supple, gracious wine for the year. Sweet rose petals and mint add an attractive upper register of trademark aromatics and perfume as the wine opens up in the glass. The 2010 remains dense and compact, but it is impossible to miss that the tannins here are more refined than has typically been the case with the Gris in the past, which is probably the result of vines getting older. The 2010 needs time to unwind, but it is quite pretty and full of potential. Conterno-Fantino gave the 2010 a year in 100% new French oak, followed by a year in a combination of equal parts barrique and cask. " (01/2014)
