2010 Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (Previously $550) Top Pick!
2010 Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (Previously $550)

100 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* This gorgeous, fragrant wine opens with classic Sangiovese scents of violet, rose, perfumed red berry, new leather and a whiff of baking spice. The elegant, radiant palate delivers crushed Marasca cherry, ripe strawberry, cinnamon, black tea and a hint of pipe tobacco. Firm, ultrafine tannins and bright acidity offer an age-worthy structure and impeccable balance. It’s already stunning but will evolve for decades. Drink 2020-2050. 2013 Gaja Barbaresco

96 points Vinous: "The 2013 Barbaresco is fabulous. In fact, this is one of the best Barbarescos I have tasted at Gaja in many years. Vibrant, perfumed and beautifully sculpted in the glass, the 2013 possesses tons of understated intensity. Sweet red cherry, mint, white pepper and anise are all lifted in the glass. The 2013 is an almost shockingly classic Barbaresco from Gaja. The translucent color, vibrant Nebbiolo fruit and austere but noble tannins represent a move towards a much more traditional style. For readers who can find it, the 2013 is simply a must-have wine. ( ...Read More »

2010 Antinori "Pian delle Vigne-Vigna Ferrovia" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

98 points James Suckling: "Fantastic aromas of dark fruits, mineral, bark and fresh mushroom follow through to a full body, firm and silky tannins and a long, long finish. Beautiful mouthfeel of velvety tannins. One of the greatest Brunellos ever made by Antinori. Drink or hold." (2/2016) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Plum cake, underbrush, dark berry, menthol and a touch of mocha unfold in the glass. The taut, full-bodied palate offers chewy black cherry, raspberry jam, licorice and sage framed in youthfully assertive, fine-grained tannins. A tobacco note closes the finish. Drink 2022-2032. 2013 Le Macchiole "Messorio" Bolgheri (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Messorio is a truly divine creation that puts Merlot on a well-deserved pedestal. This is a complete wine that accurately doses out its intensity and persistence with stopwatch precision. Dark fruit, blackberry, spice, leather, tar and tobacco are folded together into a homogeneous whole. The wine is supported by finely integrated tannins with lovely dark fruit flavors and beautifully plush textural richness. Thanks to the vintage warmth, the 2013 vintage is similar to 2011. But this current release presents a more delineated sense of freshness ...Read More »

2012 Duemani "Duemani" Toscana

99 points James Suckling: "The clarity and beauty to this wine are breathtaking. The aromas of peaches, orange peel, blueberries and blackberries are truly amazing. Full body, phenomenal depth of fruit and silky tannins. There is polish and finesse, yet the strength is monumental. Better in 2018 but why wait? Demeter certified as biodynamic." (8/2015) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The lovely 2012 Duemani is a wine that will show its potential further down the road. This warm vintage expression is muscular and compact at this initial stage in its evolution. It needs more years of bottle aging to unwind and soften ...Read More »

2006 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino

97 points James Suckling: "Love the nose on this with blackberries, sweet tobacco, blueberries. Full body, with soft and silky tannins and a light jammy finish. Lots of dark fruits. Long finish. Loads going on in this one." (1/2011) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino flows with gorgeous layers of dark red fruit. This is one of the more muscular, virile wines of the vintage. Slow to reveal its character, the Valdicava Brunello will require significant patience, but I have seen the wine blossom beautifully, even in the smallest of vintages. A blast of iron, smoke, tar, licorice and new l ...Read More »

2009 Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella Superiore
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella Superiore (92VN, 91WS). Vinous: "Black cherries, plums, graphite, tapenade, melted road tar and game hits the palate as Romano Dal Forno's 2009 Valpolicella Superiore shows off its personality. The 2009 brings together the signature richness of a wine made from 100% dried fruit with distinctly wild, almost Syrah-like overtones. Inky and intense, with considerable tannic backbone, the 2009 is really more of a junior Amarone than a Valpolicella. Readers will want to give this super-expressive wine another few years in the cellar, but there is a lot to like, even today. (AG)" (07/2015)

2010 San Filippo "Le Lucére" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

100 points James Suckling: "Amazing young Brunello with superb concentration and depth. Full body, chewy yet polished tannins and mineral, oyster shell and blueberry flavors. Goes on for minutes. Leave it until 2020 to open. A triumph. (JS)" (10/2015) 96 points Wine Spectator: "The sweet, ripe fruit has an immediate impact, offering notes of cherry, strawberry and currant, followed by light oak spice, leather, tobacco and earth accents. The tannins peek through on the finish, but overall this is balanced and long. So harmonious that you may want to enjoy now, but this should only get better with time. Best fro ...Read More »

Full body, bright acidity and a savory finish. Juicy and lively. Better to drink this beginning in 2020 but so impressive now." (11/2016) 98 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Red berry, cedar and light spice aromas lead the way on this dazzling red. 1996 Ceretto "Bricco Rocche" Barolo Back In Stock!
1996 Ceretto "Bricco Rocche" Barolo

92-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine exhibits a saturated ruby color with purple nuances. Additionally, it is rich, with lots of extract, tannin, and body. Ceretto's opaque ruby/purple-colored 1996 Barolo Bricco Rocche is sensational stuff. It combines explosive levels of fruit, glycerin, and extract with an uncanny sense of elegance and finesse. There are copious quantities of black cherry fruit, intermixed with raspberries, cedar, spicy oak, licorice, and tar. This terrific, complex, multidimensional Barolo should be at its finest between 2003-2018. (RP)" (8/1999) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Complex aromas ...Read More »

2009 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana

Full body, with integrated tannins and a compacted palate. Builds on the palate. Muscular and intense. Needs until 2015 to soften. Try it then." (11/2014) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Flaccianello della Pieve is a bit of a shock to the palate after 20+ older vintages. Still, it is impossible to miss the wine’s striking purity and finesse. Today the 2009 is a bit of a brute, but it should mellow out over the next 5-7 years as the tannins start to soften. 2004 Pieve Santa Restituta (Gaja) "Rennina" Brunello di Montalcino

95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Powerful yet elegant nose shows more berries and minerals and less oak than the Sugarille; this is downright Musigny-like. Then silky, suave and graceful on the palate, with compelling inner-mouth floral perfume and a wonderfully pliant texture. If anything, this wine is even more intense on the suavely tannic, extremely long finish than in the middle, as its underlying minerality gives it outstanding grip and finesse. This is made from a blend of sites while Sugarille is from a single vineyard, but it was this wine that spun my head aroun ...Read More »

Needs five or six years to completely open but so beautiful in its youth. Real deal. From organically grown grapes." (7/2016) 97 points Vinous: "The 2013 Flaccianello della Pieve is a powerhouse. (3/2016) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Poderi Aldo Conterno's Bussia Romirasco sees a few extra months of oak aging. The 2012 Barolo Bussia Romirasco greatly benefits from that extra wood. Because the fruit in 2012 is less expressive overall, the Romirasco signature touch bodes well for its texture, heft and its aromatic delivery. (3/2016) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Barolo Bussia Cicala treads with larger, heavier footprints and this is what sets it apart from some of the profoundly finessed and graceful vintages of Barolo's glorious past (and future, we anticipate). Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Casanova di Neri "Tenuta Nuova" Brunello di Montalcino (100RP, 99JS, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a protagonist of the vintage. The fruit is deep and dark with rich levels of extract, intensity and flavor. It goes far beyond your standard cherry and blackberry to include plum cake, spice bread and bacon-wrapped prune. Nothing is obvious or monochromatic about this wine. Everything is nuanced and ethereal. Tenuta Nuova is also distinguished by the linear mineral notes that are characteristic of this single-vineyard site. In 2010, those traits are especially well-defined and pronounced. The tannins reach a level of suppleness that is almost impossible to find in the sometimes prickly and acidic Sangiovese grape. If there is one thing Giacomo Neri has mastered, it is harvesting at optimal ripeness: He knows his property and his vines better than most and it shows. Collectors will want to put this wi

The 2010 remains dense and compact, but it is impossible to miss that the tannins here are more refined than has typically been the case with the Gris in the past, which is probably the result of vines getting older. The 2010 needs time to unwind, but it is quite pretty and full of potential. Conterno-Fantino gave the 2010 a year in 100% new French oak, followed by a year in a combination of equal parts barrique and cask. " (01/2014)

2010 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana (97RP, 96VN, 96WS, 94JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I remember the thrill this wine gave me when I tasted it upon release. The 2010 Flaccianello della Pieve is a spectacular effort that has only just started its evolutionary journey. This wine has a long, long way to go and I hope to be able to check on its progress with some degree of frequency. In fact, I'm moving the drinking window up by a few years to give it more breathing room. The wine opens to a rich and masculine appearance, and there are iron-like notes that seem specific to this vintage. More mineral and granite stone add great definition. At the core of this wine is a dark and savory serving of black cherry and spice that aspire to seamless integration. The tannins are still firmly on-guard, and this wine needs more time to complete its integration and start its elegant cellar evolution. (ML)" (10/2015)

2003 Tenuta di Trinoro Toscana Rosso

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Tenuta di Trinoro is the wine that surprised me most. Given the decadently overripe style that Andrea Franchetti pursued during these years, and the scorching heat of this infamous vintage, I frankly expected a massive, amorphous fruit bomb. Instead, this wine shows a much higher level of definition and focus than I would have ever imagined. This proves the old adage that the best winemakers should be judged in the worst vintages. Specifically, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot reveals a refined mineral pe ...Read More »

1999 Aldo Conterno "Cicala" Barolo

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "We found some inconsistency in the lineup from Aldo Conterno, but this wine flat-out rocks. The rich, intense aromas layer vanilla, coffee and buttercream over a framework of tart cherries, which explode in the mouth into a panopoly of red fruits. The tannins are plentiful—creating a rich texture—yet supple, showing great ripeness on the finish." (4/2004) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium ruby. Owing to its poor soils, Cicala always gives the firmest wines, and this 1999 is no exception. It offers attractive mineral, menthol, and tobacco aromas, along with plenty of sweet fruit on a ...Read More »

2012 Vietti "Brunate" Barolo

97 points James Suckling: "The aromas of licorice, violets and bramble berries impress. Full body, incredible length and texture. Lasts for minutes on the palate. Give it at least five years to soften." (3/2016) 94 points Vinous: "A dark, powerful wine, the 2012 Barolo Brunate is the most brooding and inward of these wines. With time and a good bit of air, the Brunate becomes a bit more precise and nuanced, yet it remains a bit monolithic next to the other wines in the range. A host of savory herbs, licorice, tobacco and dark fruits meld into the huge, explosive finish. There is no shortage of depth o ...Read More »

2009 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino
Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2009 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino (94ST, 93JS, 92VN, 91RP, 90WE, 90WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Mesmerizingly pure and intense aromas of raspberry, sour red cherry, minerals, licorice and violet. Sweet, lush and deep, with outstanding clarity and lift to the pure flavors of red cherry, raspberry and flint. Pristine and very long on the vibrant finish, which features extremely sophisticated tannins and superb length. The wine's minerally, flinty quality runs through from nose to aftertaste. A paradigm of cooler-climate Montalcino sangiovese, this is the year's best Brunello, and it will cost you a fraction as much as more famous Brunellos that other wine writers will surely score higher. 2012 Aldo Conterno "Colonnello" Barolo

95 points James Suckling: "Warmer aromas of cooked meat, ripe strawberry and fresh herbs. Full body, round and chewy tannins. Big and rich. Needs a year or two to soften. Solid." (3/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Like the Barolo Bussia Cicala, the 2012 Barolo Bussia Colonnello steps out with heavy footing. You feel the weight of the vintage, yet the bouquet shows fewer of those brilliant aromatic accents that are so magnificently delivered in cooler vintages. The aromas are all there - wild berry, balsam herb, cola and licorice - but the intensity is somewhat muted. The wine also shows tightness and astring ...Read More »

2013 Le Macchiole "Messorio" Bolgheri (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

2008 Elio Grasso "Ginestra - Casa Matè" Barolo
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Elio Grasso "Ginestra - Casa Matè" Barolo (98RP, 98VN, 96ST, 95JS, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Licorice, tar, menthol, spices and crushed rocks are some of the nuances that flow from the 2008 Barolo Ginestra Vigna Casa Mate. This dramatic, large-scaled Barolo impresses for its towering depth, complexity and sheer pedigree. Tar, menthol, licorice and spices wrap around the fleshy, deep finish. The Ginestra Vigna Casa Mate is considerably more powerful than the silkier Gavarini, but both wines represent the height of finesse in Nebbiolo. (AG)" (04/2012)

2007 Castello di Neive "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Castello di Neive "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco (95RP, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barbaresco Albesani Santo Stefano shows the weight and richness that is typical of this south-facing site in Neive. A rich fabric of dark fruit, fresh roses, new leather and menthol completely cover the palate. The Santo Stefano is impeccable in its generous, enveloping fruit. The intensity and sheer depth of the fruit manages to virtually bury the tannins, but they are there. As delicious as this is today, it will be even better in a few years- time. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. Castello di Neive, one of the historic producers in Barbaresco, seems to fly under the radar, but the best of the wines are well worth discovering and offer terrific quality for the money.
