A bit deeper than the 2008, the 2004 (also from a long growing season) has developed every bit as well as I had hoped it would when I first tasted the separate components from barrel many years ago. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Antinori Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore (OWC - 95JS, 95RP, 95W&S, 94VN, 92WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Forever the superstar, the 2011 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is a delicious wine that never holds back in terms of intensity and seamless integration. Every detail has been finessed. The blend is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Each vineyard parcel is fermented separately to maintain varietal identity. The wine’s appearance is dark and luscious with thick extraction and a vibrant dark garnet hue. Generous aromas of dark fruit, tobacco and chocolate lift steadily from the glass. The mouthfeel is soft and yielding with a great sense of tannic persistency that holds up the finish, which can be counted in many long minutes. Give this wine five years or more to fully evolve. 2007 Castello di Neive "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Castello di Neive "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco (95RP, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barbaresco Albesani Santo Stefano shows the weight and richness that is typical of this south-facing site in Neive. A rich fabric of dark fruit, fresh roses, new leather and menthol completely cover the palate. The Santo Stefano is impeccable in its generous, enveloping fruit. The intensity and sheer depth of the fruit manages to virtually bury the tannins, but they are there. As delicious as this is today, it will be even better in a few years- time. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. Castello di Neive, one of the historic producers in Barbaresco, seems to fly under the radar, but the best of the wines are well worth discovering and offer terrific quality for the money. 2009 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino (94ST, 93JS, 92VN, 91RP, 90WE, 90WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Mesmerizingly pure and intense aromas of raspberry, sour red cherry, minerals, licorice and violet. Sweet, lush and deep, with outstanding clarity and lift to the pure flavors of red cherry, raspberry and flint. Pristine and very long on the vibrant finish, which features extremely sophisticated tannins and superb length. The wine's minerally, flinty quality runs through from nose to aftertaste. A paradigm of cooler-climate Montalcino sangiovese, this is the year's best Brunello, and it will cost you a fraction as much as more famous Brunellos that other wine writers will surely score higher. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Antinori "Pian delle Vigne-Vignaferrovia" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (OWC - 93WE, 92VN) in original wood. Wine Enthusiast: "This excellent vineyard designate Brunello Riserva opens with a very elegant nose that includes elements of spice, toast, black fruit and dusty mineral. In fact, that pretty mineral note is what defines the wine and gives it harmony and personality. The wine is full and dense in the mouth with succulent tannins that need to soften with a little more cellar aging." (08/2010)

Bid on this 3L-bottle lot of 2006 Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino (3L) (OWC - 94RP, 93VN, 92ST, 92WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino comes across as tightly wound and inward at this stage. With time in the glass the wine’s inner perfume gradually comes to life, even if this remains a reticent Brunello within the context of the vintage. Still, it is impossible not to admire the inner sweetness of the fruit and the impeccable polish of the tannins. All this needs is time, maybe a little more than usual in this vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. (AG)" (05/2011)

2009 Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella Superiore
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella Superiore (92VN, 91WS). Vinous: "Black cherries, plums, graphite, tapenade, melted road tar and game hits the palate as Romano Dal Forno's 2009 Valpolicella Superiore shows off its personality. The 2009 brings together the signature richness of a wine made from 100% dried fruit with distinctly wild, almost Syrah-like overtones. Inky and intense, with considerable tannic backbone, the 2009 is really more of a junior Amarone than a Valpolicella. Readers will want to give this super-expressive wine another few years in the cellar, but there is a lot to like, even today. (AG)" (07/2015)

2010 Conterno Fantino "Vigna del Gris" Barolo
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Conterno Fantino "Vigna del Gris" Barolo (94VN, 93ST, 93WS, 92JS). Vinous: "The 2010 Barolo Vigna del Gris is beautiful, layered and expressive. Sweet tobacco, mint, licorice, crushed flowers and plums meld together in a supple, gracious wine for the year. Sweet rose petals and mint add an attractive upper register of trademark aromatics and perfume as the wine opens up in the glass. The 2010 remains dense and compact, but it is impossible to miss that the tannins here are more refined than has typically been the case with the Gris in the past, which is probably the result of vines getting older. The 2010 needs time to unwind, but it is quite pretty and full of potential. Conterno-Fantino gave the 2010 a year in 100% new French oak, followed by a year in a combination of equal parts barrique and cask. " (01/2014)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Pieve Santa Restituta (Gaja) "Rennina" Brunello di Montalcino (OWC - 93RP, 91ST, 91WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In a vintage where so many wines already appear tired, Gaja’s 2008 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina jumps from the glass with vibrant aromas and flavors. Violets, black cherries, tobacco, licorice and menthol all appear later, adding further shades of complexity. The tannins are firm yet beautifully integrated. Pieve Santa Restituta fans know than Rennina can be deceptively medium in body, yet it has a great track record for aging. Today, the wine is simply gorgeous. This is one of the few 2008s I would buy to cellar. There is little doubt the Rennina is one of the standouts in 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2026. (AG)" (06/2013)

The 2009 Promis is a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Syrah and 10% Sangiovese that come together in perfect harmony, already providing a sophisticated drink that will continue to evolve over the next decade. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore (OWC - 94RP, 91ST, 91WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The flagship 2008 Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco is beautifully delineated and articulate in this vintage. Sweet red cherries, flowers, spices and licorice are some of the notes that emerge from the glass. This is a decidedly bright, elegant Grattamacco that impresses for its fabulous overall balance and understated, classy personality. Firm, yet well integrated tannins and insistent minerality suggest the wine will drink well for many years, although to tell the truth, it is pretty delicious today. Wine Enthusiast: " *Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2013* Here’s an unforgettable wine that absolutely makes the case for 2007 being one of the best vintages of late in Montalcino. The wine is broad and polished with masculine tones of dark fruit, leather and tobacco. These aromas evolve so quickly and with such pulsing intensity, the wine comes alive suddenly. There are dusty mineral shadings at the back with tightly textured tannins. Hold 10 more years." (05/2013)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Val di Suga (Angelini) "Spuntali" Brunello di Montalcino (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Showing much riper fruit characteristics, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Spuntali offers dark fruit and blackberry backed by spice, leather and tobacco. This is a profound and powerful wine that is released as a Riserva with one extra year of bottle aging after the five years you get with a Brunello annata. The results are sophisticated and deep with many layers of fruit, spice and balsam herb. The wine feels young in the mouth thanks to the tight tannins and bright acidity. These qualities should help it age throughout the years. I like this expression because it delivers loads of fruit and power at the same time. (ML)" (03/2016)

Fat, rich and opulent, it will reward consumers with its generous super-ripe fruit, great length and beautiful overall balance. While it doesn’t look to be one of the more long-lived Camartinas, with some air it is drinking beautifully today. It is a very refined effort in this vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018. Sweet floral and spice notes meld into a core of dark red and black hued stone fruits, tobacco, smoke and new leather. We therefore choose to concentrate on observing and learning the movements of Mother Earth in her various energetic and cosmic passages and prefer to follow her indications as to what to do, instead of deciding and imposing ourselves. Consequently this has taken us to avoiding all possible interventions on the land we cultivate, including any treatments, whether chemical, organic, or biodynamic, as these are all a mere reflection of the inability of man to accept nature as she is and will be."

Plums, dark red cherries, smoke, violets and lavender are all vivid in an attractive, silky Grattamacco built on elegance. I expect the 2011 will drink beautifully with minimal cellaring. 2007 Pian dell'Orino "Bassolino" Brunello di Montalcino
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Pian dell'Orino "Bassolino" Brunello di Montalcino (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate’s 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Bassolino di Sopra 1500 emerges from the glass with endless layers of fruit. A pure, voluptuous 2007, the Bassolino di Sopra 1500 is rich, round and seamless. Deeply spiced notes develop in the glass as the wine shows off its striking personality. I am not a huge fan of extended time in oak for wines of such purity, but the 2007 handles its 48 months in barrel quite nicely, although it is naturally shaped by its aging regime, especially from a textural perspective. The 2007 is made exclusively from the estate’s holdings in Pian Bossolino, but that site has also been trademarked by another winery, hence the slight name variation here. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. " (06/2013)

1996 Falletto di Bruno Giacosa "Le Rocche del Falletto" Barolo Riserva (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 1996 Falletto di Bruno Giacosa "Le Rocche del Falletto" Barolo Riserva (1.5L). Praise for Giacosa's 1996 vintage from Stephen Tanzer: "Giacosa is enamored with the '96 vintage, which he compares in quality and balance to the fabulous year of 1971. The Giacosa '96s I tasted are legends in the making, among the high points of my recent tour and truly great examples of traditional winemaking. Aromatically speaking, they are truly exhilarating wines, and they appear to have the sheer material and sweetness at the core to outlast their powerful, palate saturating tannins... 1996 was a more regular year, yielding wines with superb color and structure, thanks largely to sound acidity. They also offer a rare degree of flavor development." (11/1998)
