1996 Gaja "Sperss" Nebbiolo Langhe
Bid on this bottle of 1996 Gaja "Sperss" Nebbiolo Langhe ((94-96RP), 96ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The spectacular 1996 Barolo Sperss boasts an opaque ruby/purple color in addition to enormously ripe black cherries, tar, flowers, and white truffles. Extremely full-bodied, with compelling intensity and purity, this is a large-scaled, massive Barolo with plenty of tannin, and 2-3 decades of ageability. (RP)" (08/1999)

1996 Bruno Giacosa "Asili" Barbaresco Riserva
Bid on this bottle of 1996 Bruno Giacosa "Asili" Barbaresco Riserva (98RP, 97VN, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The utterly perfect, dense ruby/purple-colored 1996 Barbaresco Asili (Red Label Riserva) is a heroic offering brilliantly displaying both power and elegance. The bouquet develops incrementally, offering up aromas of black raspberries, cherries, cigar box, licorice, and leather. The wine impresses with its nuances as well as its extraordinarily rich, dense mid-palate, and a finish that lasts nearly a minute. There is huge tannin, but equally massive concentration, extract, and overall harmony. (RP)" (06/2001)

1998 Tua Rita "Redigaffi" Toscano Rosso
Bid on this bottle of 1998 Tua Rita "Redigaffi" Toscano Rosso (96RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Redigaffi (2,000+ bottles produced) is profound. I do not normally quote dry extract numbers, because taste is more important than the numbers. However, I could not help but notice one of the highest measured dry extract numbers I have ever seen in a wine with the 1998 Redigaffi -- 39 grams per liter! Made from 100% Merlot, aged in 100% new Allier and Troncais French barrels, it is bottled without fining or filtration. An opaque purple-colored, powerful, enormously-endowed effort, it offers gorgeous black currant, plum, and blackberry fruit characteristics infused with spice box, chocolate, and vanilla. 1997 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 1997 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo (1.5L) (94RP, 93VN, 91ST, 90JG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I underestimated this wine from barrel, but now that the great old man of the village of Barolo, Bartolo Mascarello, has gotten it in bottle, it is an impressive, old style, heavyweight effort that will age for three decades. A dark plum/garnet color is accompanied by a striking bouquet of cinnamon, balsam wood, roses, tar, minerals, and cherry liqueur. There is good acidity, a broad, full-bodied, super-concentrated palate, and tell-tale truffle, leather, and dried herb notes. Powerful and long, this well-delineated, gorgeously pure, structured Barolo is a classic from the old school of Piedmontese winemaking. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2030. (RP)" (06/2001)

Bid on this magnum lot of 1993 Giacomo Conterno "Monfortino" Barolo Riserva (1.5L) (94VN, 92RP). Vinous: "The 1993 Monfortino is one of the wines with the most sediment, but once the wine is decanted, the fruit really begins to pop. This is one of the deeper, meatier wines of the evening. There is plenty of depth and intensity in the glass if not quite the finesse or translucency of the very best years. (AG)" (05/2014)

1996 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo
Bid on this bottle of 1996 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo (92ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Penetrating, complex nose of raspberry, cherry, tar, dried flowers, marzipan and vanilla. A step up in intensity over the '97, but brutally backward, with strong acids and tough tannins currently overshadowing the wine texture and depth of flavor. A powerfully structured wine with great aromatic potential, this will require 10 to 15 years of bottle aging. Quintessential old-style Barolo. (ST)" (12/2000)

The wine shows considerable 2000 personality in its warm, radiant fruit, but the large format has maintained freshness and verve. Readers who can find the 2000 in magnum will want to consider it. 1990 Giuseppe Quintarelli Recioto della Valpolicella Riserva
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Giuseppe Quintarelli Recioto della Valpolicella Riserva (98VN, 94WS). Vinous: "I went back and forth as to which of the two Reciotos but it was an impossible task as both wines were extraterrestrial. This was my last bottle of the 1983 Recioto Gran Riserva, a mythical, legendary bottle that more than lived up to expectations. I will never understand how a wine can be so complex yet so youthful, but that was exactly where the 1983 was. This immortal Recioto flowed with the essence of rich cherries, violets, chocolate and minerals in a regal style fit for kings and queens. The 1990 Recioto Riserva was incredibly rich, seamless and opulent, all while somehow staying light on its feet. The 1990 had a touch more depth than the 1983 Gran Riserva but perhaps a shade less overall complexity. No matter, both wines were profound. The torrone dessert was delicious, but in the end I chose to spend a few last contemplative moments with these two masterpieces from Giuseppe

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1989 Barbaresco Sori Tildin emerges from the glass with silky tannins that frame a core of perfumed red fruit. The wine continues to show off endless layers of detail. Fruit, acidity and structure; it’s all there in the magical 1989 Sori Tildin. This is another immortal, totally seductive wine from Gaja. Bid on this magnum lot of 1999 Giacomo Conterno "Monfortino" Barolo Riserva (1.5 L) (98RP, 98VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Barolo Riserva Monfortino takes things to another level, hard as that may be to believe. It is deeply expressive in its aromatics, with breathtaking nuances of roses, menthol, spices and licorice that emerge from the glass, melding seamlessly onto the palate where complex layers of dark ripe fruit captivate the taster in an endless counterpoint of aromas, flavors and sensations that are hard to fully capture with mere words. Boasting much intensity and a more full-bodied structure than the 1998, with building tannins that define the eternal finish, it is wine to taste now and over the next 6-9 months before it begins to shut down. Sampled from both bottle and magnum, it is a remarkable wine in every way, and is sure to take a place among the great Monfortinos of all time. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Casanova di Neri "Tenuta Nuova" Brunello di Montalcino (100RP, 99JS, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a protagonist of the vintage. The fruit is deep and dark with rich levels of extract, intensity and flavor. It goes far beyond your standard cherry and blackberry to include plum cake, spice bread and bacon-wrapped prune. Nothing is obvious or monochromatic about this wine. Everything is nuanced and ethereal. Tenuta Nuova is also distinguished by the linear mineral notes that are characteristic of this single-vineyard site. In 2010, those traits are especially well-defined and pronounced. The tannins reach a level of suppleness that is almost impossible to find in the sometimes prickly and acidic Sangiovese grape. If there is one thing Giacomo Neri has mastered, it is harvesting at optimal ripeness: He knows his property and his vines better than most and it shows. Collectors will want to put this wi

Vinous: "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is every bit as thrilling as it was on the many occasions I tasted it from barrel. Black cherry, hard candy, plum, rose petal, menthol and lavender saturate the palate in a sumptuous, racy Brunello endowed with magnificent depth and pedigree. An utterly stunning, sensual wine, the 2010 constantly changes in the glass as it conquers all the senses with an exotic kaleidoscope of aromas, flavors and textures. I remember tasting the 2010 from cask a few years ago when Diego Molinari was too unwell to go down to the cellar. Nora Molinari tasked me with essentially serving myself as we went from vintage to vintage and cask to cask. For days after, I was mortified that I might not have closed some of the spigots tightly enough. Fortunately, that was not the case. In all of my years tasting the wines of Montalcino, I have only come across two wines with this level of textur

Bid on this bottle of 2007 Luciano Sandrone "Cannubi Boschis" Barolo (97JS, 97RP, 96WE, 95ST, 94WS, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Cannubi Boschis dazzles from start to finish. It shows marvelous delineation and freshness in its voluptuous, harmonious fruit, with no hard edges and an expansive, textured personality that conquers both the palate and intellect. Here, too, the oak is very well integrated, while the wine's balance and overall sense of harmony are nothing short of stunning. This is one of the very finest vintages of Cannubi Boschis. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2032. Luciano Sandrone's wines have never been more elegant than they are today. The French oak is increasingly well balanced, and the at times excessive heaviness of some prior vintages is long gone. Of the 2005 Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella Superiore,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Dal Forno should really change the name of his 2005 Valpolicella Superiore. It is really an Amarone for all practical intents and purposes, as it is made entirely from fruit that has been dried, albeit for less time than that legally required for Amarone. Firm, sturdy tannins frame blackberries, blueberries, violets and new leather in the 2005 Valpolicella. This is an especially structured, shut-down wine, even within the context of Dal Forno. The wine’s gorgeous inner perfume and sheer depth suggest that all that is required is patience. 2001&2004 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Tasting Lot
Bid on this 2-bottle 2001&2004 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Tasting Lot, including 1-bottle of 2001 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (96ST, 95RP, 91WS) and 1-bottle of 2004 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino (95RP, 93ST, 92WE, 91WS). Of the 2001 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino Riserva,Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Deep red-ruby. Captivating aromas of redcurrant, violet and marzipan complicated by balsamic and woodsy notes. Very dense but also vibrant and juicy, featuring nicely focused, rich flavors of raspberry, strawberry and licorice. Solid harmonious acidity gives a refreshing quality and impeccable balance to what is essentially a big, broad wine. The complex, very persistent finish shows very silky tannins. One of the best Brunellos of all in 2001, a truly great year for these wines that was characterized by greatly reduced yields due to a late spring frost followed by near-ideal growing conditions thereafter. 2006 Luciano Sandrone "Cannubi Boschis" Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2006 Luciano Sandrone "Cannubi Boschis" Barolo (97RP, 96VN, 95WS, 91JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is seductive, round and sweet in its ripe dark fruit. The wine continues to gain weight in the glass, showing a level of density that nearly manages to cover the tannins. Floral notes add lift on the finish. This is a powerful, linear Cannubi Boschis with tons of energy and muscle, but it will require quite a bit of patience. Sandrone harvests his three parcels in Cannubi Boschis separately. Vinification takes place in stainless steel. The wines undergo malolactic fermentation and are aged in 500-liter barrels (roughly 20% new) for a year. Once the final blend is assembled, the wine goes back into oak for another year prior to being bottled in the spring. Sandrone is one of the earliest producers to bottle, which he does to preserve as much freshness as possible. (AG)" (02/2010)

2007 Vietti "Castiglione" Barolo
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2007 Vietti "Castiglione" Barolo (93RP, 92JS, 92ST, 92WS, 90BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Castiglione deftly balances the open, radiant personality of the vintage with considerable underlying structure. Warm, dense and full-bodied, the 2007 Barolo Castiglione flows effortlessly across the palate with generous fruit and fabulous overall balance. The wine was even better when I tasted it from bottle a few months later. It is another overachieving wine from Vietti and a bottle that is exceedingly fairly priced. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.
