2005 Raymond-Lafon, Sauternes (375ml)

91-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "(No tasting note given)" (4/2008) 93 points Wine Spectator: "This is pure and precise, showing rich apricot, peach and clementine flavors, but great cut too, with a mouthwatering edge that lets chamomile, green plum and honeysuckle notes dance through the finish. Gorgeous. (JM, Web-2011)" 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright yellow-gold. Superripe but precise aromas of mirabelle, white nectarine and honey. Supersweet, deep and powerful, with a fat, honeyed character and terrific spicy persistence. A big boy but with lovely balance. (ST)" (7/2008)

2005 Langoa-Barton, St-Julien Top Pick!
2005 Langoa-Barton, St-Julien

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Château Langoa Barton 2005 offers plenty of concentration on the nose: blackberries, blueberry, a touch of cedar and tobacco emerging from the glass, opening and gaining intensity all the time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is beautifully balanced in the mouth, perhaps just a little conservative but with great precision and length. It has the freshness and vitality to be approachable now, though I would prefer to leave this for another 4 or 5 years. (NM)" (2/2015) 92 points Wine & Spirits: "This vintage emphasizes dark chocolate and French roast coffee scent ...Read More »

2005 Lascombes, Margaux

94 points Wine & Spirits: "A joyous Lascombes, this is the first vintage to hit stride since the US investment firm Colony Capital took over in 2001. It's a meaty wine draped in fragrant tannin, built for long aging. It's also an exuberant wine, in both the bright, red currant-scented fruit and the bristle of the tannin. A playfully complex flavor lasts for minutes, the wine still youthful and fresh four days after it was opened. Margaux chic." (3/2008) 93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "This well-filled, impeccably balanced wine starts with aromas of cherries, sweet berries, tobacco leaves, rose petals, vanilla bean ...Read More »

2005 Haut-Bages-Libéral, Pauillac

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel Sample. Very opulent, generous and rich. It shows all the glories of the vintage, with huge but sufficiently restrained fruit, and exuberant tannins." (6/2006) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Very aromatic, showing blackberry and currant aromas, with some licorice. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a rich, decadent, fruity finish. Caresses the palate. Stylish and opulent." (3/2008) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Haut-Bages Libéral offers loads of blackcurrant fruit, licorice, spice and forest floor. It is medium to full-bodied, with supple tannin and an expansive, textured mouthfeel and finish. Dr ...Read More »

2005 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This tastes of great Cabernet Sauvignon, with its black currant, cedar and herbs and fresh, juicy acidity. It is as fresh as it is rich, but it has a structure of dense tannins that balances the wine. This is one of the best wines from Gruaud-Larose for several years. (RV)" (6/2008) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Licorice spice and tough black tannins form tight boundaries around this wine. Within them, sweet red fruit lends a gracious impression, gentle and refined. Age will allow the wine to expand as the tannins relent, but this offers impressive drinking now, particularly if decante ...Read More »

2005 Larcis Ducasse, St. Emilion (375ml)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This great terroir on the Cote Pavie has long been recognized as one of the most privileged spots in St.-Emilion, but it was not until the wunderkind duo of Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt took over in 2002 that the wine finally began to live up to its potential. Old timers who remember the 1945 Larcis Ducasse will attest to how great this cuvee can be. Sadly, fewer than 3,000 cases were produced of the 2005, a blend of 78% Merlot and the rest primarily Cabernet Franc with a small dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon. Yields were a modest 27 hectolit ...Read More »

2005 d'Aiguilhe, Côtes de Castillon

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the famous family of Comte de Neipperg, the 2005 D’Aiguilhe is sensational and may be one of the best cuvées I have ever tasted from Neipperg and his Côtes de Castillon estate. This wine has an opaque purple color and loads of Christmas fruitcake, licorice and crushed chalk along with plenty of blackcurrant and blackberry fruit. Full-bodied, rich, still structured and tannic, but super-concentrated, this is an amazing effort in 2005. Give it another several years of bottle age and drink it over the following 20 years. 2005 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This property, which has benefitted enormously from tremendous investments from the Rothschild family that owns Lafite, has turned out a dense purple-colored wine in 2005. Offering broad, expansive, supple and silky tannin as well as loads of Asian plum sauce, blackcurrants, and sweet cherries, this wine is seductive, medium to full-bodied, and luscious. This successful effort from the Rothschilds should continue to drink well for at least another two decades. 2005 Canon, St-Emilion

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Canon vertical, the 2005 Canon is evolving into a quite gorgeous Saint Emilion. One can still discern those brown spices infiltrating the ripe red and black fruit. There is fine mineralité here, great focus, perhaps just a hint of dried blood that develops with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannin. It is a very complex Saint Emilion with immense purity and style, a wine that you have to keep coming back to in order to understand. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (97RP, 96WS, 95DC, 95ST, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Pontet-Canet vertical in London, the 2005 Château Pontet-Canet has long been one of the stars of the vintage and this might well be the best of over a dozen showings of this wine. However, do not expect ostentation on the nose. This is 2005 and like many wines of this vintage, even with considerable decanting, it remained broody and introspective on the nose, as if it is checking you out and seeing if you are worthy. Once you have been accepted, then it swings the doors open to reveal gorgeous scents of blackberry, briary and cassis fruit, perhaps a little more sous-bois than I have noticed compared to previous bottles. The palate is medium-bodied, but dense and structured—certainly a more masculine Pontet-Canet built for long-term ageing ... (NM)" (07/2016)

Lots of clove and orange peel. Same quality as the 2001." (3/2008) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château Doisy-Védrines has a rich and decadent bouquet, very honeyed and forward, perhaps missing the precision of the Doisy-Daëne. 2005 Chauvin, St-Emilion

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Chauvin’s successful 2005 ranks alongside their 2000 and 1998. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by lovely aromas of black currants, cherries, smoke, meats, and minerals. Superb purity, full body, good acidity, and moderate tannin suggest this fleshy, substantial St.-Emilion will be drinkable in 3-4 years, and last for 15 or more." (4/2006) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full ruby. Blueberry and minerals on the nose. (3/2008) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Domaine de Chevalier’s fabulous 2005 white offers terrific acidity, body, and texture as well as high acidity, which suggests this wine should enjoy an incredibly long life. 2005 La Fleur de Boüard, Lalande-de-Pomerol

A big wine (14% alcohol), it is rich, concentrated, full-bodied and performs far above its official pedigree. It can be drunk over the next 10+ years. Once again, the Comte von Neipperg and his winemaking consultant S ...Read More »

2005 Clos de l'Oratoire, St-Emilion (1.5L)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the Comte von Neipperg, his wines from this over-achieving estate always deliver an aromatic fireworks display of cedar wood, Christmas fruitcake, roasted herbs, black olive, cassis and sweet kirsch. The 2005 has all that as well as ripe, well-integrated, velvety tannin, and full body in a sexy, luscious, heady style to drink now and over the next 10-15 years. (RP)" (6/2015) 93 points Wine Spectator: "This is exotic, with mushroom, blackberry and meat aromas. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and lots of decadent fruit character. Long and beautiful. The best from this estate si ...Read More »

2005 Marojallia, Margaux

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Billing itself as the first “garage wine” from the appellation of Margaux, this comes from a property owned by Philippe Porcheron. The wine, made with meticulous care by the partnership of Muriel Andraud and Jean-Luc Thunevin, consistently performs well above its pedigree. Still youthful, exuberant and rich, this wine has a dense ruby/purple color and beautiful notes of violets, graphite and crème de cassis as well as some blueberry fruit. It is well-endowed, medium to full-bodied, and stunningly proportioned. This wine should continue to evolve and drin ...Read More »

2005 Marquis d'Alesme Becker, Margaux

91 points Wine Spectator: "A soft, fruity wine, with blackberry, coffee and light vanilla on the nose and palate. Full, with very velvety tannins and a long, flavorful finish. This is right on the mark now." (3/2008) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A pleasant, picnic-styled 2005, this wine offers sweet cherry and currant fruit, a medium ruby/purple color, moderate body, light tannin... especially for the vintage. 2005 Le Gay, Pomerol (bin soiled label)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Le Gay is a massive, masculine Pomerol, very much in the style of Gazin, but showing much more minerality, abundant blue and black fruits, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and loads of tannin in a youthful, backward style, even at age 10. Give this wine at least another 5-10 years of cellaring and drink it over the following quarter-century. (RP)" (6/2015) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Dark purple in color, with aromas of coffee, green olive, blackberry and dried flowers. Full-bodied, with very polished yet present tannins and a long, rich, fruity finish. The best Le Gay in years. Bes ...Read More »

2005 Margaux, Margaux 1.5L 3-Pack in OWC

99 points Vinous: "From the moment it is opened, the 2005 Margaux takes things to another level. The bouquet alone is breathtaking in its beauty. Bright, delineated but also explosive, the 2005 takes hold of all the senses and never lets up. The flavors are vibrant and focused, with gorgeous lift and precision. The 2005 is a riveting, aristocratic Margaux that will drink well for several decades. Today the flavors are still remarkably youthful. The wine drinks well because of its magnificent balance, but readers who prefer more aromatic and flavor complexity will want to w ...Read More »

2005 Magdelaine, St-Emilion (6L)

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a blend of 95% merlot and 5% cabernet franc; 3.53 pH; IPT 65; 13.8% alcohol): Bright ruby. Sexy, compelling nose of blackcurrant, violet, white pepper and minerals is an absolute knockout. Then very refined on the palate, with a delicate spiciness to the blackcurrant, red plum and mineral flavors, but with noteworthy fleshiness and ripeness lifted by harmonious acidity. This is a very great and impeccably balanced Magdelaine in the making. Finishes long and silky, with a persistent strawberry note. Jean-Claude Berrouet considers this to be a class ...Read More »

2005 l'Arrosée, St-Émilion (3L)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A Bordeaux that seems to have a Burgundian personality, L’Arrosée’s 2005 displays elegance and finesse, with sweet black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, hints of minerality and earth, but soft tannin, a lush, medium-bodied style, and impressive concentration, purity and overall texture. By no means a blockbuster (in a vintage that produced almost endless numbers of them), this wine can be drunk now or cellared for another 15-20 years. (RP)" (6/2015) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Displays rich, impressive aromas of toasty oak, coffee and meat, with fruity undertones. Full-bodied, with a ...Read More »
