2005 Latour-Martillac, Pessac-Léognan Top Pick!
2005 Latour-Martillac, Pessac-Léognan

93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of crushed berries, flowers and stones. It’s very ripe and rich. Yet it remains fresh. It’s full-bodied, with silky tannins and a crisp finish. It needs another year or two to soften but it’s already gorgeous to drink. Decant an hour or two before." (10/2012) 91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Barrel Sample* With its dryness, this seems at first to be all tannin. There is, though, a black currant fruit flavor that shows through after the wine has been in the mouth for a while, and the aftertaste has fine acidity. This should develop well. (RV)" (6/2006) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dense ruby purple, with the oak ...Read More »

2005 Meyney, St-Estèphe

90 points James Suckling: "This starts off a little bretty with barnyard undertones, but it blows off to flowers and rich fruit. Round and juicy, with yummy flavors. A long finish on this. Very spicy and earthy. St. Estephe character. Enjoy or age." (2/2011) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of currant and fresh flowers follow through to a medium-to-full body, with chewy tannins and a slightly woody finish, but the fruit comes through. Turns long and pretty. Best after 2010. (JS, Web-2008)" K&L Notes: From barrel: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 29% Petit Verdot. Sweet and lush-delicious. Elegant style. We love this ... 97 points James Suckling: "This is a fabulous wine. A very giving wine with an amazing nose of currants, strawberries and flowers. This is a gorgeous wine. Full and powerful, with chewy and ripe tannins and a long, long finish. A serious, structured wine that still needs some time in the bottle. Don’t touch this for another five or six years. Pull the cork after 2016." (5/2012) 97 points Wine Spectator: "*Ranked #2, Top 100 Wines of 2008* Very beautiful aromas of crushed berry, flowers, currant and Indian spices follow through to a full body, with ultrafine tannins and a long, long finish. 2005 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes (375ml)

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Extravagantly rich, this is dense and supersweet initially, just balanced with acidity. The botrytis dryness is really not here at this stage, but with its elegant creamy texture, wood flavors still very present. This is still at the very beginning of its development. (RV)" (6/2008) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. 2005 de Fonbel, St-Émilion

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A sleeper of the vintage, Ausone’s proprietor, Alain Vauthier, produces this beautiful St.-Emilion. It possesses a sumptuous bouquet of crushed rocks, incense, raspberries, boysenberries, and a touch of cherries. Some earthiness intrudes on the palate, but it adds complexity and nuance rather than detracting from the wine’s beautiful fruit. Medium to full-bodied, with admirable elegance and purity as well as ripe tannin, this beauty can be enjoyed over the next 15+ years. 2005 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Barrel Sample* If you're looking for great, ripe black currant fruits, this is where to come. The wine is full and hugely fruity, but it still manages a good Bordeaux sense of proportion. (RV)" (6/2006) Jancis Robinson: "Smokiness dominates the nose at the moment but there’s still evidence of fresh and aromatic cassis underneath. Rich and yet juicy. A slightly leafy aftertaste may not to be everyone’s taste but it does finish fresh. 2005 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien Top Pick!
2005 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This tastes of great Cabernet Sauvignon, with its black currant, cedar and herbs and fresh, juicy acidity. It is as fresh as it is rich, but it has a structure of dense tannins that balances the wine. This is one of the best wines from Gruaud-Larose for several years. (RV)" (6/2008) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Licorice spice and tough black tannins form tight boundaries around this wine. Within them, sweet red fruit lends a gracious impression, gentle and refined. 2005 Guiraud, Sauternes

Lots of fruit with a tropical fruit undertone of mango and papaya on the palate. Intense finish. Too excellent not to drink." (7/2013) 97 points Wine Spectator: "*Highly Recommended and #4 on Top 100 of 2008* Delivers lots of botrytis spice, with lemon tart and cooked apple. 2005 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

96 points James Suckling: "A meaty and decadent Lynch with very ripe currant aromas on the nose. Full body, velvety-textured tannins and a powerful finish. It shows so much structure and fruit yet remains polished and focused. Lovely now to drink but better in 2017." (10/2015) 96 points Wine & Spirits: "There's a relaxed feel to this wine. Cazes's team can dress Lynch-Bages in the black-tie formality of a first growth, but the wine is still lovely-a touch of gaminess makes it friendly rather than ponderous. There's something ethereal about its tannins, like a chocolate truffle melting in the mouth. (Daniel Ll ...Read More »

Lots of clove and orange peel. Same quality as the 2001." (3/2008) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at the 10-Year On Tasting in Sauternes. The 2005 Château Doisy-Védrines has a rich and decadent bouquet, very honeyed and forward, perhaps missing the precision of the Doisy-Daëne. (7/2008) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Honey, apple pie, dried pineapple and acacia aromas follow through to a full body, with medium sweetness and a spicy, viscous finish. This 2005 continues in that tradition, a spicy, fruity wine, which has restraint as well as hidden power." (6/2008) 93 points James Suckling: "What a nose on this, with orchids and currants, this is very perfumed and pretty. Full-bodied, with bright and lively acidity. Bid on this bottle of 2005 Angélus, St-Emilion (100RP, 97JS, 96ST, 96W&S, 96WS, 95WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 7,000 case blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc will rival or perhaps eclipse vintages such as 2000, 1998, 1990, and 1989. Its dense purple color is followed by an extraordinary perfume of charcoal, espresso roast, blackberries, blueberries, and a hint of wood. In spite of its thick texture, terrific acidity, high tannins, and enormous intensity as well as richness, it is surprisingly approachable, but given how slowly the 1989 and 1990 have aged, I would recommend cellaring it for 8-10 years. It should keep for three decades. A brilliant wine!" (04/2008)

Sharply delineated and very tightly wound, but with superb intensity of black fruit, chocolate, earth and mineral flavors and excellent inner-palate energy. This mounts very slowly on the back, finishing with a youthfully sappy quality, firm tannins and impressive length. It was emotional tasting this wine, thinking of the late Christine Valette, who made this compelling wine while battling with considerable courage against an insidious disease. It is a great effort and a superstar of the vintage. Dense purple, it offers notes of white chocolate, blackberry, cassis and licorice as well as a hint of truffle and some subtle background oak. Full-bodied, multi-layered, and spectacularly pure and rich, it is a tour de force, and a great tribute to an incredible woman.
