1995 Chauvin, St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Chauvin's 1995 is not dissimilar from the 1994. Deep ruby/purple-colored, with a sweet...jammy nose of black fruits, oak, and spice, this (is a) lush, attractively-textured, plump St.-Emilion. (RP)" (10/1997) K&L Notes: Robert Parker… 'Deep ruby/purple-colored, with a sweet, nearly over-ripe, jammy nose of black fruits, oak, and spice, this lush, attractively-textured, plump St.-Emilion will need to be drunk over the next 6-10 years because of its extremely low acidity.'

1995 du Tertre, Margaux

Jancis Robinson: "Mid ruby. Very fragrant and high toned. Lightweight and much gentler tannins than most 1995 Margaux. But actually this makes for an attractive drink. Not an attention grabber but very well balanced – although some may find the acidity just a tad pronounced." (2/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A chocolatey, berry-scented nose with weedy cassis, licorice, and earth aromas is followed by a medium-bodied wine with fine concentration. Although monolithic, the 1995 is well-made, mouthfilling, and moderately tannic. (RP)" (2/1998) Wine Spectator: "A rustic wine with decent fruit. Slightly weedy, with berry, ...Read More »

1995 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac

93 points James Suckling: "This is surprisingly delicate and fine now with currant and spice character and hints nuts. It is full body with refined texture and a beautiful finish." (1/2014) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A stylish, elegant, more restrained style of Pichon Baron, with less obvious new oak than usual, this deep ruby/purple-colored wine offers a pure black currant-scented nose with subtle aromas of coffee and smoky toasty oak. In the mouth, the wine displays less weight and muscle than the 1996, but it offers suave, elegant, rich fruit presented in a medium to full-bodied, surprisingly lush style. ...Read More »

1995 Troplong-Mondot, St-Émilion

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Totally shut down and enclosed, with an impressively saturated purple/black color and a promising but tightly strung nose of mineral, vanilla, espresso, black cherry and currant, this wine has beautiful purity, medium to full body, relatively high but sweet tannin, and a long 30-35 second finish. The wine is very firm but impressive as well as promising. Patience please! Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. (RP)" (1/2003) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Very good saturated ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry, chocolate and licorice; more crystallized than cooked fruit-as the heat in ' ...Read More »

1995 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (1.5L)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What sumptuous pleasures await those who purchase either the 1996 or 1995 Pichon Lalande. It is hard to choose a favorite, although the 1995 is a smoother, more immediately sexy and accessible wine. It is an exquisite example of Pichon-Lalande with the Merlot component giving the wine a coffee/chocolatey/cherry component to go along with the Cabernet Sauvignon's and Cabernet Franc's complex blackberry/cassis fruit. The wine possesses an opaque black/ruby/purple color, and sexy, flamboyant aromatics of pain grille, black fruits, and cedar. Exquisite o ...Read More »

1995 Duhart-Milon Rothschild, Pauillac (1.5L)

90 points Wine Spectator: "Essence of blackberry and chocolate. Full-bodied and extremely velvety. Caressing and gorgeous to taste. Duhart started making excellent wines in this vintage.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Drink now." (1/1997) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made from a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon/20% Merlot, the 1995 is slightly sweeter, more supple and slender than the broader-shouldered 1996. The wine's bouquet offers aromas of ripe berry fruit intermixed with minerals, toasty oak, and spice. Medium-bodied, with fine extract, it is a finesse-styled Pauillac (in the best sense of the word). Ant ...Read More »

1995 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This vintage is aging at a glacial pace and the tannins are currently more significant than their counterbalancing components of fruit and glycerin. While the word “potential” seems to be the most positive descriptor for this vintage, there are some nagging doubts about whether all the tannins will melt away and the fruit will hold. As in most 1995s, the color remains a healthy dark plum/purple. One of the bigger wines of the vintage, the ripe, powerful Merlot component has buttressed the Cabernet elements, giving the wine plenty of body, tannin and La M ...Read More »

1995 Calon-Ségur, St Estèphe

97 points James Suckling: "I always loved this wine from the first time I tasted it in 1998. It has such purity and power yet it's reserved and beautiful. It's one of the best Calons ever. I drank a bottle with some friends in Manhattan last week and it was the wine of the evening. It was full-bodied with silky tannins and a focused and intense finish. Lots of currant and berry character and hints of dried spices. It's finally opening up and giving real pleasure now like so many 1995 Bordeaux at the moment." (5/2014) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Incredible nose of crushed berries, flowers, spices and nuts. Full ...Read More »

1995 Figeac, St-Émilion

95 points Wine Spectator: "Best Figeac in years. Loads of blackberry, chocolate and stones. Full-bodied and concentrated with masses of tannins and fruit. Long, long finish. Needs time." (1/1998) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property from one of the last remaining imperials, one could argue that the six-liter format would have benefit the 1995 Figeac. Even so, that should not take anything away from this, the best vintage of that decade. Firstly, one notices that it is deeper in color than the underwhelming 1996. Then you fall into the aromatics, a beguiling concocti ...Read More »

1995 Pape-Clement, Pessac-Léognan

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby-red. Expressive nose combines raspberry, hot stones, tobacco, and smoky oak. Rich, sweet and mouthfilling, with a softer structure than the '96. Enticing fruit is accessible already. Complicating notes of smoke, leather and tar. Builds slowly on the sweet finish, which features fine, dusty tannins. But can't quite match the '96 for grip. (ST)" (5/1998) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of blackberry, tobacco and black licorice follow through to a full-bodied palate, with lots of ripe fruit and a chewy, slightly hot finish. Big, muscular wine. Needs time.--'95/'96 Bord ...Read More »

1995 Saint-Amand, Sauternes

According to Oz Clarke's Bordeaux, Saint-Amand is "one of the few non-Classed Growth properties that manages to produce big, rich, classic Sauternes--and which doesn't charge the earth. The 22-ha (54-acre) estate is in the commune of Preignac--right next to the little river Ciron, whose autumn mists have so much to do with the formation of the noble rot fungus on their grapes... Year after year this is one of the most reliable châteaux for rich, honeyed and affordable Sauternes." (2006)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (100JS, 99WE, 98W&S, 97ST, 96WS, 95RP). James Suckling: "An incredible nose, so subtle with red fruits, mint, minerals, and all sorts of flowers give way to Cohiba cigar tobacco. The palate has such freshness and density, with perfectly polished tannins. Slightly leathery, like a wonderful Hermes bag. What a wine, please leave this for another ten years. Of the 1997 Rieussec, Sauternes,Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Captivating, tangy aromas of vineyard peach, pear, white flowers and curry powder. Supple and very concentrated; thick but lively thanks to perfectly integrated acidity. Fruit notes nicely complemented by spice tones. Conveys a tactile impression of extract. Long and strong on the back end. Still quite youthfully unevolved and built for long life. 92(+?) points. (ST)" (07/2000)

1995 Doisy-Védrines, Sauternes

Some citric aromas. Lush and sweet on the palate. Excellent value. Robert Parker... 'This Barsac estate is well placed just to the southeast of the two most famous Barsacs, Climens and Coutet. Unfortuantey, the tiny production of a sweet Doisy-Vedrines prevents many wine enthusiasts from ever discovering how good this wine can be... Doisy-Vedrines is a much fatter, richer, more intense wine than the wine of next-door neighbor Doisy-Daene. Doisy-Vedrines is a wine that is usually at its best 5-7 years after the vintage, but will age considerably longer... Read More »

1995 Talbot, St-Julien

90 points Wine Spectator: "Blackberry, lightly toasted oak and cedar on the nose. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long silky finish. Needs time to open. (JS, Web-2007)" Jancis Robinson: "Very dark crimson. Vigorous impact, well balanced with a suitably dry finish. Big and bold and fruity. So much fruit that you have to dig to find the (considerable) tannin." (3/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has turned out to be more impressive from bottle than it was in cask. 1995 Vieux-Château-Certan, Pomerol

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This bottle is not quite in the same league as ones tasted two or three years ago, but the ’95 remains one of Alexandre’s standout wines of that decade. Here, it has a haunting bouquet whereby the Cabernet Franc component is more conspicuous than before, essentially with more Pomerol character developing. There are touches of blackberry, mint and cassis with a meaty element developing in the glass. The palate has plenty of sweet red cherry and boysenberry on the entry, the oak now completely absorbed and with a slightly unruly, almost Rioja-like finish! ...Read More »

1995 Tertre Roteboeuf, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 1995 Tertre Roteboeuf, St-Emilion (94RP, 94ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A very powerful, concentrated Tertre Roteboeuf, but completely closed at present, this wine has a deep ruby/purple color, and a sweet nose of black cherry and plum jam intermixed with hints of vanilla, chocolate, and espresso roast. The wine is medium to full-bodied, quite tannic, powerful, and one of the more backward wines I have tasted at this estate. It requires much more cellaring than I originally anticipated. 94+ (RP)" (01/2003)

This exceptional Bordeaux is full-bodied and very tannic, with masses of rich fruit, berry and tobacco. Very velvety. This powerhouse needs time. Best after 2003." (01/98) 96 points Robert Parker: "What sumptuous pleasures await those who purchase either the 1996 or 1995 Pichon Lalande.
