1995 Poujeaux Moulis-en-Médoc

91 points Wine Spectator: "Gorgeous aromas of crushed berries, cinnamon and plum. Full-bodied, very silky and very seductive. Wonderful wine. (JS, Web-2007)" Jancis Robinson: "Very dark blackish crimson. Very light nose. Well-mannered classic stuff...Fine tannins." (6/2007) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A very good wine, with grip, tannin, medium to full body, and excellent ripeness, this unevolved, backward yet promising Poujeaux needs cellaring. There is some mineral-tinged, sweet black currant fruit in both the aromatics and flavors. (RP)" (2/1998) K&L Notes: Value-hunters should take note of Poujeaux, which has a long history dating back to... Read More »

1995 Figeac, St-Émilion (Previously $230.00)

95 points Wine Spectator: "Best Figeac in years. Loads of blackberry, chocolate and stones. Full-bodied and concentrated with masses of tannins and fruit. Long, long finish. Needs time." (1/1998) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property from one of the last remaining imperials, one could argue that the six-liter format would have benefit the 1995 Figeac. Even so, that should not take anything away from this, the best vintage of that decade. Firstly, one notices that it is deeper in color than the underwhelming 1996. Then you fall into the aromatics, a beguiling concocti ...Read More »

1995 d'Yquem, Sauternes

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served from an ex-chateau bottle. The 1995 Chateau d’Yquem is moving into its secondary aroma phase. A deep golden color, it has a dense and almost Barsac-like bouquet with tangerine, apricot, acacia and melted candle wax. It displays good intensity, unfolding beautifully in the glass. The palate has a strident opening, with a slight bitter edge that lends this Yquem great tension. One can discern layers of marmalade infused with honey fruit, with a powerful, spicy finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is drinking perfectly now, but will surely age ...Read More »

1995 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien (1.5L)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Black licorice and currants on the nose. Very fragrant. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still needs time to come together.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2008. (JS, Web-2007)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While not as backward as the 1996, the opaque purple-colored 1995 is a tannic, unevolved, dense, concentrated wine that will require 8-10 years of cellaring. The 1995 exhibits pain grille, blackcurrant, mineral, and subtle tobacco in its complex yet youthful aromatics. Powerful, dense, concentrated cassis and blueberry flavors might be marginally soft ...Read More »

1995 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac

93 points James Suckling: "This is surprisingly delicate and fine now with currant and spice character and hints nuts. It is full body with refined texture and a beautiful finish." (1/2014) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A stylish, elegant, more restrained style of Pichon Baron, with less obvious new oak than usual, this deep ruby/purple-colored wine offers a pure black currant-scented nose with subtle aromas of coffee and smoky toasty oak. In the mouth, the wine displays less weight and muscle than the 1996, but it offers suave, elegant, rich fruit presented in a medium to full-bodied, surprisingly lush style. ...Read More »

1995 Rauzan-Ségla, Margaux

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A more lucid hue than the 1996, this has more ripeness and sensuality on the nose. Redcurrants, cherry and bilberry with tangible new oak. With aeration, a hint of fig compote develops. There is certainly good fruit concentration on the full-bodied, vigorous palate, quite sinewy in style with great weight. Powerful and yet still very right. Layers of red-berried fruit, a hint of damson, cedar and pencil lead. Surprisingly masculine, this has great potential, more so than the ensuing vintage. Drink 2012-2035. (NM)" (8/2007) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Very ripe, with an almost raisiny ...Read More »

1995 Pape-Clement, Pessac-Léognan

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby-red. Expressive nose combines raspberry, hot stones, tobacco, and smoky oak. Rich, sweet and mouthfilling, with a softer structure than the '96. Enticing fruit is accessible already. Complicating notes of smoke, leather and tar. Builds slowly on the sweet finish, which features fine, dusty tannins. But can't quite match the '96 for grip. (ST)" (5/1998) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of blackberry, tobacco and black licorice follow through to a full-bodied palate, with lots of ripe fruit and a chewy, slightly hot finish. Big, muscular wine. Needs time.--'95/'96 Bord ...Read More »

1995 Vieux-Château-Certan, Pomerol

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This bottle is not quite in the same league as ones tasted two or three years ago, but the ’95 remains one of Alexandre’s standout wines of that decade. Here, it has a haunting bouquet whereby the Cabernet Franc component is more conspicuous than before, essentially with more Pomerol character developing. There are touches of blackberry, mint and cassis with a meaty element developing in the glass. The palate has plenty of sweet red cherry and boysenberry on the entry, the oak now completely absorbed and with a slightly unruly, almost Rioja-like finish! ...Read More »

1995 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (1.5L)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What sumptuous pleasures await those who purchase either the 1996 or 1995 Pichon Lalande. It is hard to choose a favorite, although the 1995 is a smoother, more immediately sexy and accessible wine. It is an exquisite example of Pichon-Lalande with the Merlot component giving the wine a coffee/chocolatey/cherry component to go along with the Cabernet Sauvignon's and Cabernet Franc's complex blackberry/cassis fruit. The wine possesses an opaque black/ruby/purple color, and sexy, flamboyant aromatics of pain grille, black fruits, and cedar. Exquisite o ...Read More »

1995 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This vintage is aging at a glacial pace and the tannins are currently more significant than their counterbalancing components of fruit and glycerin. While the word “potential” seems to be the most positive descriptor for this vintage, there are some nagging doubts about whether all the tannins will melt away and the fruit will hold. As in most 1995s, the color remains a healthy dark plum/purple. One of the bigger wines of the vintage, the ripe, powerful Merlot component has buttressed the Cabernet elements, giving the wine plenty of body, tannin and La M ...Read More »

1995 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien (1.5L)

95 points Wine Spectator: "Subtle yet aromatic character of Indian spices, currants and dried cherries. Full-bodied, with super well-integrated tannins and a long, caressing finish. Wonderful texture. Classy and structured. Long. This was wine of the year in 1998; well deserved. (Web-2007)" 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine is of first-growth quality, not only from an intellectual perspective, but in its hedonistic characteristics. More open-knit and accessible than the extraordinary 1996, Ducru's 1995 exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color, followed by a knock-out nose of blueberry and black raspberry/cas ...Read More »

1995 Rayne-Vigneau, Sauternes (500ml)

Some coconut aromas and flavors, with pineapple nuances. Robert Parker... 'During the 19th centruy, Rayne-Vigneau had a reputation second only to that of Yquem. Certainly no other estate is as superbly located as Rayne-Vigneau... Since 1971, the estate has been managed by Mestrezet, a well-run negociant firm. The are also the proprietors of the classified-growth Pauillac, Grand-Puy-Ducasse. They appear to have become deadly serious about the quality of their wines.'

1995 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (signs of past seepage)

96 points Wine Spectator: "Intense aromas of blackberries, black licorice and currants, with mineral undertones. Full-bodied, with a solid core of tannins and a long, silky finish. Still holding back, but is concentrated and powerful. The 1996 is always talked about, but I think this is superior and will be in the future.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2010. (Web-2007)" 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1995 Lafite-Rothschild (only one-third of the harvest made it into the final blend) is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. The wine was showing spectacularly well wh ...Read More »

1995 Saint-Amand, Sauternes

According to Oz Clarke's Bordeaux, Saint-Amand is "one of the few non-Classed Growth properties that manages to produce big, rich, classic Sauternes--and which doesn't charge the earth. The 22-ha (54-acre) estate is in the commune of Preignac--right next to the little river Ciron, whose autumn mists have so much to do with the formation of the noble rot fungus on their grapes... Year after year this is one of the most reliable châteaux for rich, honeyed and affordable Sauternes." (2006)

1995 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (3L)

94 points Wine Spectator: "A wine that continues to improve with age. Shows loads of ripe plum, almost prune, with hints of vanilla and mineral. Full, chewy and tight. Still needs time.--Lynch-Bages non-blind vertical. Best after 2008. (JS, Web-2007)" Jancis Robinson: "Dark blackish ruby with a pale rim. High toned, almost charcoal nose but the promise of luscious fruit underneath. Rich and spicy on the palate. A satisfying claret with some sweetness and charm on the end but very much in the classic mould, finishing dry. 17/20 points.
