1995 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien

91 points Wine Spectator: "Intense aromas of crushed blackberries, licorice and Spanish cedar. Full-bodied, concentrated and structured. Give it some time. (JL, Web Only-2007)" 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red with a pale rim. Initially closed nose opens slowly with aeration to offer delicate blackcurrant and mineral aromas complicated by a touch of field herbs. Then richer and deeper on the palate, with flinty blackcurrant, raspberry and herbal flavors carrying nicely through the aftertaste. The chewy, peppery tannins have smoothed out nicely with age. This wine has already developed much more depth and ...Read More »

1995 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted wonderful in October 2000. A meaty rich ripe nose of cassis, mulberry and cherry. Full-bodied and expansive structure. Approachable with layers of strawberries and red fruits. A rich voluptuous Barton that should be ready in 2-3 yrs. Then blind in April 2005. A very attractive nose with a slight under-ripeness that lends it freshness and vitality. The palate is well-balanced with toasty new oak. But quite backward compared to others with a dense sweet, chocolate tinged finish. Quite modern in style on the surface, but you can tell that there is a ...Read More »

1995 Lagrange, St-Julien

94 points James Suckling: "A classic wine to drink now. Plenty of dark berry and spice character. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a beautiful depth and intensity. Fresh earth and sweet tobacco aftertaste." (7/2014) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Licorice, blackberry and mineral undertones. Full-bodied, with silky and refined tannins. Long finish. Just about ready. Balanced and harmonious. (JS, Web Only-2007)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1995 Lagrange is similar to the 1996, but the fruit is sweeter, the acidity lower, and the wine less marked by Cabernet Sauvignon. The color is a deep ruby/purple. The wine boasts a roasted herb, charco ...Read More »

1995 Clos de l'Oratoire, St.-Emilion

92 points Wine Spectator: "Intense aromas of crushed fruit and black licorice, with just a hint of mineral. Full-bodied, with a solid core of ripe fruit, yet cool and reserved. Needs time to come out. Still fresh and racy.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2009. (Web-2007)" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An impressive, possibly outstanding wine, the 1995 Clos de l'Oratoire is a sleeper of the vintage. This dense ruby/purple-colored offering possesses attractive, meaty, sweet cherry fruit in the nose, intertwined with smoky, toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied, spicy, and layered on the palate, the wine re ...Read More »

1995 Malescot-St-Exupery, Margaux

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine may merit an outstanding rating. It offers a classic Margaux combination of elegance and richness. Medium-bodied, with delicate, beautifully ripe, black currant and floral aromas that compete with subtle new oak, the 1995 Malescot hits the palate with a lovely concoction of fruit, nicely integrated tannin and acidity, and a stylish, graceful feel. This quintessentially elegant Bordeaux should continue to improve in the bottle. A beauty! (RP)" (2/1998) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Plenty of plum and floral aromas, with hints of red licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine ...Read More »

1995 Haut-Batailley, Pauillac

92 points Wine Spectator: "Wonderful aromas of citrus fruit, blackberry and currant. Full-bodied, with Port-like flavors and chewy tannins. Super well-structured. Needs time to come together. (JS)" (6/2007) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Silky, sexy, supple, and altogether a gorgeous effort from Haut-Batailley, the 1995 is a medium-bodied, seamless, beautifully pure Pauillac with gobs of black currant fruit intermixed with smoke, vanilla, and lead pencil. (RP)" (2/1998) K&L Notes: Superb '95 Bordeaux! With all the hype surrounding Wine Spectator's wine of the year (Ducru Beaucaillou) it's no wonder that Haut-Batailley has bee... Read More »

1995 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1995 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (95JS, 95RP, 95VN, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is 'great stuff,' with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2030. (RP)" (02/1998)

1995 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Latour, Pauillac (96RP, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beauty, the opaque dense purple-colored 1995 exhibits jammy cassis, vanillin, and minerals in its fragrant but still youthful aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, with exceptional purity, superb concentration, and a long, intense, ripe, 40-second finish, this is a magnificent example of Latour. As the wine sat in the glass, scents of roasted espresso and toasty new oak emerged. This classic will require considerable cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2050. (RP)" (06/2000)

1995 Clos du Marquis, St-Julien

93 points Wine Spectator: "Wonderfully perfumed, with violets, flowers, fruit and cedar. Full-bodied, with loads of fruit and a powerful structure. Powerful and reserved. (Web Only—2007)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As I have indicated numerous times in this journal, the second wine of Las Cases, Clos du Marquis, is one of the finest second wines being made in Bordeaux. Over recent years, it has become a wine of classified growth quality. The 1996 may turn out to be even better than the outstanding 1995. Both are exceptional wines, with the 1996 slightly thicker and more viscous, with more noticeable new oak, ...Read More »

1995 Prieuré-Lichine, Margaux

Jancis Robinson: "Crimson and some evolution. Lively, elegant, old-fashioned Margaux. A bit of tannin left. (5/2008 & 4/2004)" (5/2008) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "...this medium-bodied wine exhibits a moderately garnet color and a sweet nose of dusty red fruits intermixed with some balsam wood, Provencal herbs, and damp earth, perhaps even mushrooms. The wine is pleasing on the attack, but then becomes increasingly compressed and attenuated." (1/2003) Wine Spectator: "Toasty wood, with coffee and ripe fruit on the nose. Full-bodied, with lots of fruit and wood. Medium, chewy finish. Needs a little time to soften. (Web ...Read More »
