1995 Calon-Ségur, St Estèphe Top Pick!
1995 Calon-Ségur, St Estèphe

97 points James Suckling: "I always loved this wine from the first time I tasted it in 1998. It has such purity and power yet it's reserved and beautiful. It's one of the best Calons ever. I drank a bottle with some friends in Manhattan last week and it was the wine of the evening. It was full-bodied with silky tannins and a focused and intense finish. Lots of currant and berry character and hints of dried spices. It's finally opening up and giving real pleasure now like so many 1995 Bordeaux at the moment." (5/2014) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Incredible nose of crushed berries, flowers, spices and nuts. Full ...Read More »

1995 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served from an ex-chateau bottle. The 1995 Chateau d’Yquem is moving into its secondary aroma phase. A deep golden color, it has a dense and almost Barsac-like bouquet with tangerine, apricot, acacia and melted candle wax. It displays good intensity, unfolding beautifully in the glass. The palate has a strident opening, with a slight bitter edge that lends this Yquem great tension. One can discern layers of marmalade infused with honey fruit, with a powerful, spicy finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is drinking perfectly now, but will surely age ...Read More »

1995 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Leognan

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at Berry Brother & Rudd’s vertical. The 1995 is probably reaching its peak. It retains that lovely Graves bouquet with tertiary notes subtly interwoven into the red berry fruit, that meaty element only becoming evident with continued aeration. The palate is sensual on the entry with a rounded texture, plenty of sous-bois notes defining the finish that is long in the mouth. The savoury side of this wine is less obvious here that on previous bottles. Drinking beautifully now. (NM)" (1/2013) 92 points Wine Spectator: "A chewy, burly wine for aging. Big Haut-Bailly. Vivid berry a ...Read More »

1995 Pape-Clement, Pessac-Léognan

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby-red. Expressive nose combines raspberry, hot stones, tobacco, and smoky oak. Rich, sweet and mouthfilling, with a softer structure than the '96. Enticing fruit is accessible already. Complicating notes of smoke, leather and tar. Builds slowly on the sweet finish, which features fine, dusty tannins. But can't quite match the '96 for grip. (ST)" (5/1998) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of blackberry, tobacco and black licorice follow through to a full-bodied palate, with lots of ripe fruit and a chewy, slightly hot finish. Big, muscular wine. Needs time.--'95/'96 Bord ...Read More »

1995 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien

95 points Wine Spectator: "**Top Wine of 1998** Subtle yet aromatic character of Indian spices, currants and dried cherries. Full-bodied, with super well-integrated tannins and a long, caressing finish. Wonderful texture. Classy and structured. Long. This was wine of the year in 1998; well deserved.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2009. (Web-2007) (JS)" 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine is of first-growth quality, not only from an intellectual perspective, but in its hedonistic characteristics. More open-knit and accessible than the extraordinary 1996, Ducru's 1995 exhibits a saturated ruby/pur ...Read More »

1995 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (1.5L)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A wine of extraordinary intensity and accessibility, the 1995 Cos d'Estournel is a sexier, more hedonistic offering than the muscular, backward 1996. Opulent, with forward aromatics (gobs of black fruits intermixed with toasty pain grille scents and a boatload of spice), this terrific Cos possesses remarkable intensity, full body, and layers of jammy fruit nicely framed by the wine's new oak. Because of low acidity and sweet tannin, the 1995 will be difficult to resist young, although it will age for 2-3 decades. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2025. (RP) ...Read More »

1995 Troplong-Mondot, St-Émilion

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Totally shut down and enclosed, with an impressively saturated purple/black color and a promising but tightly strung nose of mineral, vanilla, espresso, black cherry and currant, this wine has beautiful purity, medium to full body, relatively high but sweet tannin, and a long 30-35 second finish. The wine is very firm but impressive as well as promising. Patience please! Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. 1995 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 1995 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac (95RP, 93WS, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Unbelievably rich, multidimensional, broad-shouldered wine, with slightly more elegance and less weight than the powerhouse 1996, this gorgeously proportioned, medium to full-bodied, fabulously ripe, rich, cassis-scented and flavored Grand-Puy-Lacoste is another beauty. It should be drinkable within 4-5 years, and keep for 25-30. This classic Pauillac is a worthy rival to the other-worldly 1996. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025. (RP)" (02/1998)

1995 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (96RP, 94WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What sumptuous pleasures await those who purchase either the 1996 or 1995 Pichon Lalande. It is hard to choose a favorite, although the 1995 is a smoother, more immediately sexy and accessible wine. It is an exquisite example of Pichon-Lalande with the Merlot component giving the wine a coffee/chocolatey/cherry component to go along with the Cabernet Sauvignon's and Cabernet Franc's complex blackberry/cassis fruit. The wine possesses an opaque black/ruby/purple color, and sexy, flamboyant aromatics of pain grille, black fruits, and cedar. Exquisite on the palate, this full-bodied, layered, multidimensional wine should prove to be one of the vintage's most extraordinary success stories. (RP)" (02/1998)

1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (95JS, 95RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is 'great stuff,' with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild." (02/1998)

1995 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Margaux, Margaux (97WS, 95RP, 94ST). Wine Spectator: "This still broods seriously, with dark plum, currant and blackberry fruit, studded with charcoal, singed tobacco and cedar notes and backed by a serious grip of roasted earth. The gorgeously long finish is driven by old-school tannins, with the smoldering edge going on and on. A brick house of a Margaux, with more charcoal than graphite, more austerity than elegance and more power than refinement. (Web-2014)"

(Web Only-2007)" 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby-red, even darker than the '96. Currant, raspberry, tobacco and cedary oak on the nose. Full and sweet in the middle palate, with strong, lively flavors. Here the toothcoating tannins seem slightly less well integrated today but they are ripe and even. Really creamy in the mouth, but with the structure to age." (6/1998) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine was consistently outstanding from cask, and I susp ...Read More »

1995 du Tertre, Margaux

Jancis Robinson: "Mid ruby. Very fragrant and high toned. Lightweight and much gentler tannins than most 1995 Margaux. But actually this makes for an attractive drink. Not an attention grabber but very well balanced – although some may find the acidity just a tad pronounced." (2/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A chocolatey, berry-scented nose with weedy cassis, licorice, and earth aromas is followed by a medium-bodied wine with fine concentration. Although monolithic, the 1995 is well-made, mouthfilling, and moderately tannic. (RP)" (2/1998) Wine Spectator: "A rustic wine with decent fruit. Slightly weedy, with berry, ...Read More »
