1995 Potensac, Médoc Top Pick!
1995 Potensac, Médoc

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Elegant, complex, and evolved, the saturated dark ruby-colored 1995 exhibits herb-tinged, black currant/weedy cassis-like flavors that are supple, round, generous, and appealing. (RP)" (2/1998) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red. Cooler aromas of dark berries and menthol. Sweet and textured in the mouth; already displaying plenty of personality. Flavors are more evolved than those of the '96, and also more accessible today. Finishes with substantial chewy tannins. (ST)" (5/1998) Wine Spectator: "Very aromatic, with cherry, currant and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fresh, cl ...Read More »

1995 Troplong-Mondot, St-Émilion

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Totally shut down and enclosed, with an impressively saturated purple/black color and a promising but tightly strung nose of mineral, vanilla, espresso, black cherry and currant, this wine has beautiful purity, medium to full body, relatively high but sweet tannin, and a long 30-35 second finish. The wine is very firm but impressive as well as promising. Patience please! Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. (RP)" (1/2003) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Very good saturated ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry, chocolate and licorice; more crystallized than cooked fruit-as the heat in ' ...Read More »

1995 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (1.5L)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What sumptuous pleasures await those who purchase either the 1996 or 1995 Pichon Lalande. It is hard to choose a favorite, although the 1995 is a smoother, more immediately sexy and accessible wine. It is an exquisite example of Pichon-Lalande with the Merlot component giving the wine a coffee/chocolatey/cherry component to go along with the Cabernet Sauvignon's and Cabernet Franc's complex blackberry/cassis fruit. The wine possesses an opaque black/ruby/purple color, and sexy, flamboyant aromatics of pain grille, black fruits, and cedar. Exquisite o ...Read More »

1995 Figeac, St-Émilion (Previously $230.00)

95 points Wine Spectator: "Best Figeac in years. Loads of blackberry, chocolate and stones. Full-bodied and concentrated with masses of tannins and fruit. Long, long finish. Needs time." (1/1998) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property from one of the last remaining imperials, one could argue that the six-liter format would have benefit the 1995 Figeac. Even so, that should not take anything away from this, the best vintage of that decade. Firstly, one notices that it is deeper in color than the underwhelming 1996. Then you fall into the aromatics, a beguiling concocti ...Read More »

1995 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien (1.5L)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Black licorice and currants on the nose. Very fragrant. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still needs time to come together.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2008. (JS, Web-2007)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While not as backward as the 1996, the opaque purple-colored 1995 is a tannic, unevolved, dense, concentrated wine that will require 8-10 years of cellaring. The 1995 exhibits pain grille, blackcurrant, mineral, and subtle tobacco in its complex yet youthful aromatics. Powerful, dense, concentrated cassis and blueberry flavors might be marginally soft ...Read More »

1995 Vieux-Château-Certan, Pomerol

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This bottle is not quite in the same league as ones tasted two or three years ago, but the ’95 remains one of Alexandre’s standout wines of that decade. Here, it has a haunting bouquet whereby the Cabernet Franc component is more conspicuous than before, essentially with more Pomerol character developing. There are touches of blackberry, mint and cassis with a meaty element developing in the glass. The palate has plenty of sweet red cherry and boysenberry on the entry, the oak now completely absorbed and with a slightly unruly, almost Rioja-like finish! ...Read More »

1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (95JS, 95RP, 95VN, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is 'great stuff,' with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild. (RP)" (02/1998)

1995 d'Yquem, Sauternes

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served from an ex-chateau bottle. The 1995 Chateau d’Yquem is moving into its secondary aroma phase. A deep golden color, it has a dense and almost Barsac-like bouquet with tangerine, apricot, acacia and melted candle wax. It displays good intensity, unfolding beautifully in the glass. The palate has a strident opening, with a slight bitter edge that lends this Yquem great tension. One can discern layers of marmalade infused with honey fruit, with a powerful, spicy finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is drinking perfectly now, but will surely age ...Read More »

1995 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (100JS, 99WE, 98W&S, 97ST, 96WS, 95RP). James Suckling: "An incredible nose, so subtle with red fruits, mint, minerals, and all sorts of flowers give way to Cohiba cigar tobacco. The palate has such freshness and density, with perfectly polished tannins. Slightly leathery, like a wonderful Hermes bag. What a wine, please leave this for another ten years. Pull the cork in 2020. 10% Merlot." (02/2011)

1995 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this bottle of 1995 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (96RP, 95WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is fun to go back and forth between the 1995 and 1996, two superb vintages for Haut-Brion. The 1995 seems to have sweeter tannin and a bit more fat and seamlessness when compared to the more structured and muscular 1996. Certainly 1995 was a vintage that the brilliant administrator Jean Delmas handled flawlessly. The result is a deep ruby/purple-colored wine with a tight but promising nose of burning wood embers intermixed with vanilla, spice box, earth, mineral, sweet cherry, black currant, plum-like fruit, medium to full body, a high level of ripe but sweet tannin, and a finish that goes on for a good 40-45 seconds. (RP, Bordeaux Book)" (01/2003)

1995 Carruades de Lafite, Pauillac

Jancis Robinson: "Pretty impressive on the nose. Very intense ruby with hardly any evidence of browning. Rather light and even slightly simple on the palate. Slightly dry tannins insist on the end. A bit chunky. This sample was served perhaps slightly too warm to shine? Mineral finish." (2/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I have noticed in my tastings that the second wine of Lafite-Rothschild, Carruades de Lafite, has improved over recent years. The 1995 is a 40% Merlot/60% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. It exhibits more of the trademark characteristics of its bigger sibling. Elegant, with spicy new oak, ...Read More »

1995 Malescot-St-Exupery, Margaux

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine may merit an outstanding rating. It offers a classic Margaux combination of elegance and richness. Medium-bodied, with delicate, beautifully ripe, black currant and floral aromas that compete with subtle new oak, the 1995 Malescot hits the palate with a lovely concoction of fruit, nicely integrated tannin and acidity, and a stylish, graceful feel. This quintessentially elegant Bordeaux should continue to improve in the bottle. A beauty! (RP)" (2/1998) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Plenty of plum and floral aromas, with hints of red licorice. 1995 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien (1.5L)

95 points Wine Spectator: "Subtle yet aromatic character of Indian spices, currants and dried cherries. Full-bodied, with super well-integrated tannins and a long, caressing finish. Wonderful texture. Classy and structured. Long. This was wine of the year in 1998; well deserved. (Web-2007)" 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine is of first-growth quality, not only from an intellectual perspective, but in its hedonistic characteristics. More open-knit and accessible than the extraordinary 1996, Ducru's 1995 exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color, followed by a knock-out nose of blueberry and black raspberry/cas ...Read More »
